WEBSTORE UPDATE! New ILEGAL, ARCTIC FLOWERS, NO PROBLEM, UNHOLY THOUGHTS, and MORE!

Another Friday is upon us and we are officially into Fall and I couldn't be happier! 2012 is almost up, but we still have a few more things cooking over here at GMHQ before the year officially rings out so stay tuned ... also 2013 is shaping up to be one of our busiest years ever, so there is plenty to look forward to in the coming months! For now, what better way to start your weekend than with some fresh new records?! As always, I've got a ton of great new stuff in the webstore so take a look and order some records!

I'll be quick with the label news this week, but if you haven't heard yet the SCHOOL JERKS LP and NIGHT BIRDS "Fresh Kills Vol. 1" LP have been out for about a month now, and if you haven't picked up a copy from me then they should be making their rounds into your local stores and distros by now.  I have approximately 20 copies left of the SCHOOL JERKS LP on SLIME GREEN vinyl so all of you nerds act fast or you might miss out!

Finally, THE SHIRKS 12" test pressings have been approved, and we also have the BIG EYES Demo 7" repress at the plant, hoping to have copies by the band's next US tour this November (more news on that shortly).

That's all of the label news for now, on to the webstore update!

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE FOR 9/28/12:

ARCTIC FLOWERS "PROCESSION" LP (FERAL WARD)
Five new songs from Portland's Arctic Flowers featuring members of Defect Defect, Deathreat, Talk Is Poison and Signal Lost.  Picking up where their LP on Inimical left off, Arctic Flowers returns with more gloomy anarcho-goth punk songs full of moody hooks, catchy riffs and haunting female vocals.  Recorded at Howl Studios and mastered at Mammoth Sound.  Arctic Flowers just returned from an East Coast tour.

ILEGAL "EL AIRE LIBRE FUERA DE LOS DIENTES DEL MONSTRUO TIRANO Y CANIBAL" LP (LA VIDA ES UN MUS)
After a demo and three seven inches ILEGAL finally unleash their debut full length. 12 songs clocking in at just about 30 minutes. Heavily influenced by early Italian and Spanish hardcore bands like WRETCHED or ANTI-DOGMATIKSS their sound brings to mind a time in hardcore where you could still understand what the band was singing about while sounding ferocious. Lyrics dealing with their status as illegal immigrants in Canada as well as the horrors of modern society, all sung in Spanish.  Recorded analog in Quebec Canada with vocals added digitally later in Germany. Mastered by Joel Hatsat in Florida and housed in a beautiful wraparound sleeve designed by Eugene from CRAZY SPIRIT.

UNHOLY THOUGHTS "THE ATTIC" LP (FORCEFIELD)
Thick guitar and dirgy bass layered, scorchin' Hardcore Punk Rock from Richmond, VA. which seems like a hot bed for great hc/punk last 10 years, these guys are no exception, some dudes from other bands in here aswell, but UNHOLY THOUGHTS definitely have their own thing going, I guess comparisons to others wouldn't do em justice, I dunno just take some of all the talent from those area bands, and maybe some hefty NEUROSIS "Pain of Mind" era desperation, and a couple of great "tension building" tempo changes. 12 rippers...don't miss out.

LECHEROUS GAZE "BORN ON A RIVER" 12" (ANNIHILATE)
Rebirth of Annihilation Time… drums, guitar, bass of Annihilation Time combined with the vocalist of Char-Man.  This 5 song LP is limited to 500 copies which are all hand numbered.  Lecherous Gaze had these made to sell at shows, but we got the extras.  So they won’t last long.  They have records out/coming out on Tee Pee Records.

WARSONG "THE CARAVAN" 12"
Here we go, from the ashes of INSOMNIO and NO ESCAPE comes WARSONG with their second release after their impressive “Ancient times” debut-LP. Five songs: all killer no filler (four original songs plus a Wipers song that hasn’t been covered to death – especially not in Spain). On a good day, this record will make out an instant classic, on a bad day you’ll have t...o play it twice to discover the depth and richness of this record, but you definitely won’t sell it to anyone else again, because real good records stay forever. If you want to describe the sound of WARSONG, put together a band with a young Clif Hanger (The Freeze) fronting an all star band with the best ingredients from DAG NASTY, ALL, THE WIPERS and the mighty ADOLESCENTS. Your wettest dreams come true, if their subject is pure melodic hardcore-punk in classic 80s style. The more often you play this record the bigger it grows...and it’s damn huge right now.

RED DONS "AUSLANDER" 7" (DIRTNAP)
Red Dons at their most straightforward, melodic, and powerful. The A side in particular might be their best song yet. 2 new tracks, written in 2010-2011 between Chicago, Brazil, London, Portland, and Hamburg, recorded in Sweden in a cold war era bomb shelter during a 2011 European tour by Lars Ekman (Hanna Hirsch, Förmögenhet). Look for a west coast tour with The Estranged in September 2012. All copies come with download code.

MANIC "S/T" 7" (SCAVENGER OF DEATH)
Heavy, high-velocity, rampaging hardcore punk from Atlanta.  Features members of Ralph but takes a more violent tack, and the vocals are barbaric and unhinged. This, their debut 7", contains six barrelling tracks and clocks in at around eight and a half minutes.

GOOSEBUMPS "I HATE MY BODY" 7" (BURN BOOKS)
Debut 7" from this NYC band that comes from the same camp as Crazy Spirit, Hank Wood, Dawn of Humans, et al. Fans of those bands definitely won't be disappointed, as Goosebumps definitely have a similar thing going on... strange arrangements, ranting vocals, and a sound that doesn't really compare to anything except NYC in 2012. Essential for followers of the Toxic State scene, and like all of those releases this one also features top-notch artwork.

NO PROBLEM "LIVING IN THE VOID" 7" (DEBT OFFENSIVE)
The brand new 7" from Edmonton's No Problem comes hot off the heals of their rager of an LP that came out on Deranged last summer. Contains 3 brand new songs that perfectly meld the raw-as-fuck hardcore of the LP with the catchy-as-fuck punk rock found on their earlier 7"s. Basically what I'm trying to say is you need this.

PERMACULTURE "SWALLOW WHAT YOU'RE GIVEN" 7" (INFLAMMABLE MATERIAL)
Great new band from Boston featuring members of Social Circkle, Confines and Nuclear Family who play peace punk not unlike Crass, A-Heads, Flux Of Pink Indians etc. The vocals REALLY remind me of Eve Libertine's, and this definitely seems to be going for an all round Penis Envy vibe. Great artwork and lyrics too. Well worth checking out.

HYGIENE "S/T" 7" (SORRY STATE)
After a series of compelling releases on labels like Static Shock, La Vida Es Un Mus, and Going Underground, Hygiene bring their quirky take on the classic post-punk sound to Sorry State for this new two-song single. If you're already a fan you know what to expect: deceptively simple but supremely catchy songwriting, spare arrangements, and memorable vocals that somehow sound remarkably British despite the fact that the singer is Canadian. Lyrically, these two songs address what Hygiene know best: themselves. Limited to 500 copies.

NO TOMORROW "NUCLEAR EXPOSURE" 7" (SORRY STATE)
On their second record (their first was a split LP with Oiltanker on Profane Existence Records), Wilmington, North Carolina's No Tomorrow move away from the straightforward, brutal crust that they mastered early on and toward something much more interesting. These two songs retain the big production and brutal vocals of their earlier work, but add in some brilliant melodic lead guitar that immediately brings to mind the almighty Death Side. If you like searing leads, huge guitars, and gutteral vocals you're going to flip for these two songs. The packaging on this one is also gorgeous, featuring two-color screened jackets printed by Sorry State and hand-stamped labels. Limited to 300 hand-numbered copies.

RIPPER "DEATH RIDER" 7" (BLACKWATER)
After a short hiatus and line-up change Ripper return with the long awaited follow up to their into oblivion LP and return they have! Once the needle hits on  the first song  you can feel the galloping of the death rider  as it drives itself through thunderous drum fills and heavy metal guitar riffs all seamlessly brought together with raging guitar solos and driving bass lines! With the obvious nods to the 80’s british heavy metal bands Ripper has begun to develop their own unique sound with these songs and have cemented themselves as one of the premiere bands of the genre. This record is guaranteed to leave you wanting more!

HARD SKIN "WE'RE THE FUCKING GEORGE: SINGLES 79-81" LP (JTCLASS)
2012 and recession hits hard. Hard Skin need money. Johnny Takeaway's fruit and veg stall is fucked. you know what i mean?? proper fucked. His kids need feeding and the missus is going mental. So over 10 pints and a bag of pork scratchings they came up with the idea of starting their own label. So here is record number one on JT Classics which does what is says on the tin. Has Johnny Takeaway on it and is Classic. 'We're The Fucking George - Singles 1978 - 1981' has 15 tracks on it compiled from singles and released between 1994 and 2011. The geezer who did the artwork got the dates wrong and it was too fucking late to change.  In case you haven't heard Hard Skin. You are missing out!! They are fucking brilliant. It's Oi! but done like the old days when it was good. Ploddy, angry, basic and anthemic.  The LP doesn't come with a download because real Skinheads don't use computers.

LIBYANS "DISCOGRAPHY" LP (NARSHARDAA)
Libyans come from Boston, MA and play snotty and melodic hardcore punk with female vocals. Pulling influences from everyone from Cock Sparrer to the Avengers to Career Suicide. Their music is raw and poppy at the same time while not leaning too much toward either side. This LP features almost everything they have released so far including both 7 inches, their 12" and a song from the too circle records hc/punk compilation.

IRON CROSS "SKINHEAD GLORY" 7" (TKO)
Iron Cross' debut 7" is once again available on vinyl courtesy of TKO Records, with four tracks of some of the first oi to come out of America including the now-classic song "Crucified For Your Sins" that was made famous by bands like Madball and Agnostic Front.

TEMPLARS, THE "RIGHT TO WORK" 7" (TKO)
Recorded in 1994, previously unreleased version of The Templars "Right To Work"! 666 made, hand numbered. Etched, single sided 7"!

FLESH EATERS, THE "1978 DEMOS" 7" (TKO)
For the first time on vinyl, the original 1978 DEMOS!!! Cover art by Chris D.! The Flesh Eaters are an American punk rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California in 1977. They are the most prominent of the bands which have showcased the compositions and singing of their founder, punk poet Chris Desjardins, known as Chris D. While Desjardins is the group's only continual member, the Flesh Eaters' lineup has drawn from some of the most famous bands of the L.A. punk scene, such as The Plugz, X, The Blasters and Los Lobos.  The band's greatest success was in the early 1980s. Though a part of that era's productive punk rock scene, their music was distinctive for its morbid lyricism and often for its sophisticated arrangements, as heard, for example, on 1981's A Minute to Pray, A Second To Die. Desjardins's poetry has been described as "wonderful bleeding collages of B-movie dementia, street crime, Mexican Catholicism and Dionysian punk spurt poetics."

HOAX "2ND EP" 7" (YOUTH ATTACK)
HOAX delivers bad news yet again. Capturing the intensity of their over-the-top live performances is certainly no small feat, yet on vinyl they convey an unparalleled aural assault of massive proportion, wreaking destruction on all fronts with songs that demolish everything in their horizon. Phony chains of command, social indebtedness to false truths, a world crumbling to pieces - games of a bogus system that rely on your habitual passivity. HOAX propel you to retaliate! This EP features elaborate die-cut five-panel fold-out sleeves, pressed on thick black vinyl.

RAW NERVE "MIDNIGHT" 7" (YOUTH ATTACK)
RAW NERVE return with their most ambitious outing yet, an 8-song EP depicting human involvement as a thin fabric of insecurities sewn by the incapable and the bitter. This is the band at their most prolific, expanding their sound into a jarring implosion of balance and tension.

VILE GASH "DELUDED" 7" (YOUTH ATTACK)
On their second vinyl outing released in anticipation of their upcoming LP, Columbus, Ohio’s VILE GASH delivers three ravaged bursts of aggression that seal the deal on man’s need to exert his will, even at his own expense. This is a hideous rotting beast, one drowned in contempt over the fallacies of rational thought.  This EP features high-gloss custom pocket sleeves on extra thick board, black dust jackets, and black vinyl.

ROPES, THE "S/T" 7" (YOUTH ATTACK)
Reawakened from the crypt of THE REPOS crawls its sickened progeny, THE ROPES. After a three-year interment these six new anthems seep to the surface and pick right up where their forebears died off. With a brash amalgam of American influences, THE ROPES display incredible mastery in their seemingly off-hand assault, driven completely over the top by the inhuman roar of vocalist Aaron Aspinwall.  This deluxe re-release of their self-titled EP comes showcased in a custom foldout double-sided envelope sleeve, with a sixteen-page booklet featuring marvelous artwork by Will Boone, and pressed to red vinyl in black dust sleeves.

101'ERS, THE "KEYS TO YOUR HEART" 7" (FANCLUB)
A few years before Joe Strummer rose to legendary status with THE CLASH, he fronted the 101ers, an important transitional band in the metamorphosis of pub rock into punk rock. Known for their spirited live performances, they quickly rose to the top of the London pub rock circuit. During their time as a band, their only release was a 45, the infectiously catchy instant classic “Keys To Your Heart” backed with the rocker “5 Star Rock ‘N Roll Petrol”. This classic 45 is beautifully reproduced in a full color glued sleeve featuring the highly scarce French picture sleeve artwork.

NEWS "DIRTY LIES" 7" (FANCLUB)
Exact repro of this Australian punk classic. Two tracks of tough edged catchy punk. This faithful reproduction reissue features the original unique hand painted artwork originally done by the band printed on a high quality two-color die cut glued board sleeve with two-color custom printed labels. Includes a reproduction of the original lyric insert along with informative liner notes. Limited edition pressing of 500 copies.

BROKEN NEEDLE "S/T" 7" (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
In a follow up to their debut 12″ EP on Lengua Armada, this release expands upon the style of hardcore punk they established on their demo. Southern California 80′s-sounding hardcore is what they play, reminiscent of bands like Uniform Choice, Circle Jerks, and Black Flag, – without being a rip off of any of those mentioned. This latest recording has a more raw sound than their 12″, it truly captures the energy of the band’s live performance but maintains a clear sonic barrage. 5 well balanced songs in a variety of tempos that maintains your attention. Cover art photography by 80′s Southern Californian documentarian Edward Colver. Their best record to date.

LOW CULTURE "S/T" 7" (DIRT CULT)
"Let’s not beat around the bush, this single is likely to end up at the top of my 2012 singles list unless something pretty spectacular comes out between the time of me writing this and Dec. 31. I’d also go as far as saying that if Low Culture releases an album this year then it stands a pretty good chance of placing high in my 2012 album list too. Okay, time to rewind and tell you something about this little beauty. Low Culture includes a pair of Shang-a-Langs, one of whom also happens to currently be in the Marked Men. That information alone should set your ears perking up in anticipation at the four tracks on this slab-o’-vinyl. However, despite the quality of output offered by those two bands, it would be wrong to think of this as just another offshoot band or an attempt to cash in on the Shang-a-Lang name. That is because Low Culture has more than enough about it to stand head and shoulders above many other bands currently plying a trade under the prestigious banner of punk/garage/snotty pop-punk or, for that fact, general music." - punknews.org

SONICS, THE "PSYCHO" 7" (SUNDAZED)
If one were forced to name one song that exemplifies the Sonics’ revolutionary garage-punk sound, one would have to choose the band’s nerve-crushing, soul-shattering 1964 landmark “Psycho.” Boasting a drunkenly careening sax, a rampaging rhythm section and a wailing, throat-shredding vocal, this enduring classic is paired here with the attitudinal anthem “Maintaining My Cool,” which is widely regarded as one of the crowning achievements of the Sonics’ Jerden years. In their mid-’60s heyday, the Sonics pioneered a wildly aggressive, distortion-laden style that set a widely emulated standard for propulsive punk raunch. Driven by the commanding, blood-curdling howl of Gerry Roslie and the raucous, screaming guitar of Larry Parypa, the Tacoma, Washington quintet pioneered a pummeling, primitive and supremely infectious sound that served as the blueprint for multiple generations of garage, punk and grunge combos, none of whom ever quite managed to equal the Sonics’ feral ferocity. In the decades since the Sonics first made their mark, the band’s influence and mystique have grown steadily, with their relatively few recordings attaining mythic status amongst lovers of raw, undiluted rock ’n’ roll.  Now, Sundazed honors the Sonics’ awe-inspiring legacy with this tornadic trio of the band’s original vintage 7” Jerden label singles, all originally released in 1966 and now restored to their original vinyl glory and decked out in snazzy new picture sleeves featuring fab vintage photos."

SONICS, THE "THE WITCH" 7" (SUNDAZED)
The song that originally put the Sonics on the map is the immortal underground anthem “The Witch.” Recorded in July 1964 and driven by a bulldozing volley of drums, a brutally insistent guitar/sax riff and a possessed Gerry Roslie vocal, the song offered a darker, nastier alternative to the relatively well-groomed sounds of the British Invasion. It’s prime, primal Sonics mayhem, with a sublimely swaggering B-side in “Like No Other Man.” In their mid-’60s heyday, the Sonics pioneered a wildly aggressive, distortion-laden style that set a widely emulated standard for propulsive punk raunch.

SONICS, THE "YOU GOT YOUR HEAD ON BACKWARDS" 7" (SUNDAZED)
For their first Jerden single, the Sonics invoked their bluesier influences and their wisecracking lyrical sensibility to come up with the world-class rave-up “You Got Your Head on Backwards.” Meanwhile, the fearsome fivesome reveals a hitherto-unheard sensitive side on the ballad flipside “Love Lights,” which is as radical in its own way as the band’s rockers.

FADEAWAYS, THE "RAW, WILD, AND WRETCHED" LP (DEAD BEAT)
Mentored by Fifi and Fink of Teengenerate and raised on bands like the The Mummies, Supercharger, Spaceshits and the Rip Offs; THE FADEAWAYS were pretty much destined to be a garage punk hit machine.  Tokyo's THE FADEAWAYS  inject brash,  punk attitude into stripped-down, dirty Rock N Roll to create raw, raunchy rippers that just seethe uber-rockin' coolness.  This is crude, sweaty, speaker cracklin' trash that has Budget Rock smeared all over it.  If the above mention bands mean anything to ya, this one is pretty much essential.  Rad lookin' cover art by Ben Lyon.

DEAD SERIOUS "IT'S WHAT YOU CAN'T SEE" LP (MIND ROT)
Originally released on Thorp records in 2002 as a cd now 10 years later here is the vinyl re-issue that we are very honored to be releasing. Formed in 1999 and breaking up in 2003 Dead Serious features members of Cast Aside, Barfight and Break Away who played melodic and pissed off hardcore that drew influences from Side by Side, Turning Point and Youth of Today. Very influential band in the Richmond area do yourself a favor and pick this up.

AUTONOMY "THE ART OF WORK IN THE AGE OF DIGITAL REPRODUCTION" LP (DIRT CULT)
Dark and atomospheric anarcho-punk. This shit sounds like Joy Division and The Mob all at the same time. They’re from Carbondale and feature local hero Ray Suburbia.

V/A - NO T.O. FUCK TORONTO - COMP. LP (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
If you missed the kick ass TORONTO’S BURNING night at Annies, all is not lost as this ‘show only’ LP is still available! A 12″ re recording of the classic YES LA 12″ featuring CAREER SUICIDE, STEF AND THE STUDS, LEGION 666, THE DANGERLOVES and THE BROWN KNUCKLER and they all kick your ass. Add to it an amazing b side silkscreen by our patron saint of silkscreening Adam. This 12″ comp is limited to 300 copies.

LOST LEGENDS OF SURF GUITAR - V/A - 2LP (SUNDAZED)
It's hard to think of a musical style that's more quintessentially American than surf music. Springing up along the California coast in the early 1960s, the surf sound—characterized by "wet"-sounding guitar reverb that echoed the sound of the sea and pummeling rhythms that emulated the ocean's currents—was originally inspired and nurtured by the culture that surrounded the sport. Despite its provincial origins, the surf genre captured the imagination of teenagers around the world, and spawned a remarkably large body of highly original music, with an emphasis on innovative guitar instrumentals that would influence rock axemen for decades to come.  Much of that vintage surf music was originally released on small regional labels, and many of the acts that created some of the greatest surf music never released more than a handful of singles. Those factors resulted in many original surf classics remaining difficult to obtain in recent years. Sundazed Music, a longstanding champion of vintage surf music, went a long way towards remedying that situation with the release of its CD series Lost Legends of Surf Guitar. The series has been widely recognized for rescuing numerous rare, obscure and/or lesser-known gems from surf music's golden age. Now, the landmark series moves into second gear, progressing into the vinyl format with a pair of double-LP collections, each of which features 28 below-the-radar vintage surf killers.  Lost Legends of Surf Guitar gathers a rousing, roaring assortment of underground surf classics and underappreciated gems by such notable surf combos as the Challengers, the Pyramids, the Tornadoes, Jerry Cole & His Spacemen, the Catalinas, the Centurions, the Essex, the Jesters, the Rhythm Rockers, the Royal Coachmen, the Tandems and Dave Myers and His Surftones, as well as numbers by both the Surfaris and the Original Surfaris! There's also a rarely-heard track by legendary Minnesota surf-garage kings the Trashmen, the out-there "Devil Surfer" by Scott Engel (who would soon go on to pop stardom and cult acclaim as Scott Walker) and scarce versions of such surf anthems as "Jack the Ripper," "Point Panic" and "Moondawg."  This essential collection, meticulously mastered from rare vintage tapes and pressed on high-quality vinyl, is the perfect collection for gremmie and ho-dad alike, so grab this wave and jump head-first into the surf!!!

KURRAKA - DEMO TAPE (TODO DESTRUIDO)
KURRAKÄ is an all female, dark, raw punk band from Austin, TX. that features one member of Criaturas. With influence ranging from obscure European punk to South American HC, Kurraka still manage to keep it fresh and original. Even though the music is hardcore and the vocals are ferocious at times, they still maintain a melodic undertone. Catchy riffs, noisey guitars, and urgent, yet melodic vocals is what to be expected.   Mastered by Enormous Door.

WARSONG "ANCIENT TIMES" TAPE (DOOMTOWN)
"Spanish punk bands Insomnio and No Escape may be defunct and sorely missed, but hey, we've still got Warsong, formed by members of the aforementioned bands. As for the sound they're after, not much is new - melodic and anthemic punk rock with an occasional rock 'n' roll touch. If you're into name-dropping, here's some: Adolescents, Hüsker Dü, Dag Nasty, Pegboy, Wipers and maybe even Turbonegro. This tape edition of Warsong's album has been professionally duplicated and is limited to 100 copies. Get it while you still can. This limited tape was out last year on Doomtown Records." - TEENAGELOBOTOMIES.BLOGSPOT.COM

SHOXX - DEMO TAPE
"Demo tape from this new NYC band featuring 1/2 of the almighty Pollution. That half includes my personal favorite parts of Pollution, Elsner's manic, hyperactive drumming and Sean's truly transcendental guitar. Seriously, if you've ever seen Shoxx or Pollution live, you've probably been transfixed on watching his fingers run around the fretboard, constantly wondering to yourself "how does he DO THAT?" Anyway, though this recording is pretty darn rough, based on it and the power of their live show I already like this way better than Pollution. It has all of the power and weirdness, but something about the way everything fits together just makes more sense... in a word, it's catchier, though without losing any of the crazy, jaw-dropping parts that made Pollution so awesome. At any rate, this demo gets my highest recommendation, and if things go as planned hopefully you'll be seeing some vinyl from these guys on Sorry State in 2013." - sorrystaterecords.com

FLEX, THE "THE DEMO" TAPE (BLEEDING EDGES)
The Flex is a new band from the UK, with members of Perspex Flesh and Closure. Musically, they remind me a lot of Think I Care, but with a heavy Boston influence (SSD/ DYS/ Xclaim!).  Plain, mean, dirty hardcore for the hardcore!  Limited to 100 copies with re-designed cover art on pro duplicated red cassettes, with printed sticker labels. (5 songs)

MARKED MEN "ON THE OUTSIDE" TAPE (DIRT CULT)
Here's 12 more punchy, tightly wound bullets of punk and power-pop goodness from Dallas/Denton/Ft. Worth's finest, THE MARKED MEN! Featuring ex-members of beloved TX outfit THE REDS (and a current member of The Riverboat Gamblers!), THE MARKED MEN'S debut LP on the legendary Rip Off Records put them on just about every discerning punk rocker's 2003 top ten list, which was followed by highly sucessful tours of the US and Japan.

MARKED MEN "FIX MY BRAIN" TAPE (DIRT CULT)
With "Fix My Brain," Texas' The Marked Men toned down the speed and intensity to let their pop sensibilities shine through, with a sound that fans of The Briefs, the Buzzcocks and The Exploding Hearts would be proud of.

MARKED MEN "GHOSTS" TAPE (DIRT CULT)
Blurring the rawness and velocity of their self-titled debut with the slightly more developed songwriting "chops" of the last two, the Marked Men have truly delivered the best of both worlds. You can pop the needle on "Ghosts" for five seconds and instantly be left without a doubt as to whom you are listening. It ain't pop-punk. It ain't power-pop. It ain't KBD or '77 style punk. At this point, the Marked Men sound like absolutely no one but themselves.

MARKED MEN "S/T" TAPE (DIRT CULT)
Originally released by Rip Off Records in early 2003, this record has been unavailable since 2005. Since then The Marked Men have been steadily gaining in popularity each year. But as word about them spreads, many of their newer fans don't even know this one exists, much less have ever heard it. (while some of their older fans maintain that this is their best record) So this one'll be new to a lot of people, including many current Marked Men fans! A little faster, leaner, and less polished than their most recent stuff, this album serves as the missing link between the choppy, KBD-style inclinations of their previous incarnation as The Reds.

LOW CULTURE - DEMO TAPE (DIRT CULT)
Featuring members of Shang-A-Lang and Marked Men, Low Culture plays catchy garage punk with a ton of emphasis on melody and crisp (while not necessarily “over-produced”) recordings.

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #353 - OCTOBER 2012
Yes, no peace for the wicked! So yet another spooky edition of MRR has come to a close, October 2012, issue #353. An exciting issue, packed with great punk from around the world! This month we travel to Europe and revisit the story of Swedish crust/hardcore legends ANTI-CIMEX and how old England weirdo punk rockers the CRAVATS decided to take yet again to the stage. We have a truly engaging piece on the SUB-T movement of the Peruvian punk underground. Our cover stars, Minneapolis hardcore shredders BRAIN TUMORS tell us why getting dirty in the pit is how hardcore is supposed to be, while Illinois’s powerviolence grinders SICK/TIRED tell us about their latest LP and the intricacies of their name.  We talk with Bay Area hardcore punx EFFLUXUS about regional punk activity, and discuss being punks with families with locals the BAD DADDIES, while Vancouver’s UNLEARN share stories from tour and how it all began. There’s a quadruple interview with four Japanese bands, LASTLY, DESPERDICIO, AGAINST THE GRAIN and DISTURD, from the upcoming Imminent Destruction compilation EP, and an interview with Phil O’Grady, the man behind Imminent Destruction Records.  Will Butler of US hardcore label To Live A Lie talks about his upcoming projects, while melodic punk rockers WARSONG from Zaragoza, Spain, discuss the current econonic situation in Europe and the side effects is has on touring. Plus, as always, we have an array of columns, news, and the most extensive review section in punk rock print!

WEBSTORE UPDATE! New VIOLENT REACTION, SJN, RATIONAL ANIMALS, RAZAR, and More!

Greetings! The weather is getting a bit cooler here in RVA and I couldn't be happier (especially since my new home doesn't have central A/C). I've got an awesome webstore update this week, but before I get to that, just a reminder that the SCHOOL JERKS "S/T" LP and NIGHT BIRDS "Fresh Kills Vol. 1" LP are out now so check those out if you haven't yet! A huge thanks to everyone who has picked up a copy of either record (extra thanks to those who picked up both!), I hope they are finding a good home on your turntable. For the nerds out there, I still have a few of the SCHOOL JERKS LP on nice SLIME GREEN vinyl so grab it while you can!

These new releases should be popping up in all of your favorite stores and distros shortly.  If you run a distro or store and would like to grab copies of these releases or any Grave Mistake releases, please feel free to drop me an email and I'll get you taken care of! I also just shipped off a ton of huge boxes filled with these new releases to all of my current distributors, so expect them to be popping up in the EBULLITION, REV DISTRIBUTION, NO IDEA, and DEATHWISH DIRECT updates very soon. Also we are thrilled to announce that GET HIP will now be carrying select Grave Mistake titles! Any labels looking to trade, I've cut down just a little on trading but am down to entertain most trades so send me a list and hopefully we can work something out! Finally, any bloggers, zinesters, web reviewers, etc etc that want to check out GM releases for review, please don't hesitate to get in touch! Contact info is below.

In some quick label news, we should be expecting tests for THE SHIRKS 12" any day now! Also next week, if things go as planned, I will be sending off the masters for both the 86 MENTALITY "Goin Nowhere Fast" 12" collection and the repress of the BIG EYES "Demo" 7" that we are co-repressing with our friends at Evil Weevil Records!  Then after that it's looking like the new BRAIN F≠ LP (which will once again be a split with Sorry State Records) and the SECTARIAN VIOLENCE LP!  So it's looking like we are either going to be ending 2012 with a bang, or starting 2013 with a bang! Either way, get excited.

Ok, on to all of the killer new slabs in the webstore ...

WHAT'S NEW FOR 09.14.2012:
http://www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog/products_new.php

This update is sort of an odd one considering there are no new LPs in the mix! Luckily there are plenty of 7"s, demos, and zines in this to make it awesome still. I'll try and make this brief as always ...

Stocked up on the VIOLENT REACTION 7" ... I'm pretty sure the first pressing of this EP won't last too long so grab it while you can (also because it fucking RIPS). Grabbed the new EP from Australia's own STRAIGHTJACKET NATION, a fitting and long overdue follow up to their incredible LP from a few years back.  Picked up not one but TWO brand new singles from RATIONAL ANIMALS - one being the second installment of COWABUNGA's "Sick Club" series, the other being their newest on Katorga Works (and since I grabbed these from the band on tour, they have a sweet tour sleeve numbered out of 100). Picked up a few copies of the new EP from Atlanta's own OUTCROWD (STAN!!!!!!!!) along with their demo 7" as well, so grab em both!  Also stocked up on some other cool new singles from STRESSORS, DIAT, FILTHY GAZE OF EUROPE, DRAPETOMANIA, PUTAS MIERDAS, DRY FEET, TINO VALPA, CLEANSING WAVE, UTAH JAZZ, and more!

On the reissues front, grabbed a ton of new releases from the SING SING and UGLY POP labels, including reissues from RAZAR, BLITZ BOYS, ADRENALIN, THE BATS, BENT WIND, NORTHWEST COMPANY, and A PASSING FANCY! I've got full info on each of these bands below, so definitely check em out because reissues rule! I also finally stocked up on some copies of the TESTORS "Together" reissue courtesy of WINDIAN RECORDS, and I was also able to score some copies of the CONFUSE "Spending Loud Night" Fanclub pressing 7" at a VERY nice price!

On the non-vinyl side of things, stocked up on some new zines including the latest issues of DISTORT, LIMITED READERSHIP, ISOLATED, and CABIN FEVER ... and a few tapes including the MUGGER demo and WE'RE NOT CONTAGEOUS compilation tape!

Finally, some restocks of note - grabbed a few more copies of the CRAZY SPIRT "S/T" LP and HANK WOOD AND THE HAMMERHEADS LP, along with the latest DAWN OF HUMANS 7" (all courtesy of TOXIC STATE RECORDS), grabbed a few more copies of the COPS 7" single and the GG KING "Joyless Masturbation" 7", some more copies of the URBAN BLIGHT "Total War" 7", and restocked on some killer local tapes from BARGE and VIOLENT OUTBURST  (both of these are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED).

That's all for now, thanks for your continued support!!!

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE FOR 09.14.12:

VIOLENT REACTION "S/T" 7" (STATIC SHOCK)
Following a promising demo last year, Liverpool's Violent Reaction finally release their debut 7" ep. Six tracks of undiluted hardcore punk that are more influenced by Discharge, Poison Idea, Out Cold and Blitz than the likes of Youth Of Today, VR is for those who like their straight edge hardcore a little more antisocial.Originally started as a one man project by Tom Pimlott (Sectarian Violence, Nowhere Fast), VR is now playing live with members of Stab and Abolition backing him up. The record comes in an A3 wraparound sleeve and handstamped coloured innersleeves. First press is limited to 326 copies on black vinyl and is a split release with Quality Control HQ.

STRAIGHTJACKET NATION "NATIONALISM" 7" (IRON LUNG)
Raw and visceral Cleveland meets Boston style hardcore punk music played by tough-skinned Aussie cunts. They take no bullshit and give no quarter to those of a weaker stock. SJN have been laying low for a while but have finally decided to unleash these three cuts for public consumption. A gift. Recorded at CC's Paincave "studio" in Boston, My America.  In short, this is a mean record for mean people. Scare yourself with darker possibilities.  Thank you.

STRESSORS "PSYCHOTIC BREAK" 7" (WARTHOG SPEAK)
Stressors' debut wax after a slurry of cassette releases... Eight tracks of Paranoia, isolation, ousted faith in humanity, and demented rejection interpreted by four young Bay Area mongos, that take you through a neck-snapping, brain-bruising car-jacking of dynamic hardcore and internal rage.

RATIONAL ANIMALS "GABRIELLE" 7" (COWABUNGA)
With an album on Katorga Works under their belts, Rational Animals provided these two tracks for the Cowabunga Records limited Sick Club 7" series, with a style of punk rock that's slow and dirgy, perhaps akin to slower and later Black Flag and Flipper.

RATIONAL ANIMALS "CROSS-EYED DELIGHTS" 7" (KATORGA WORKS)
Follow up to their LP and newest single coinciding with their Sick Club single on COWABUNGA. These copies are TOUR PRESS out of 100!

OUTCROWD "OUR STRUGGLE" 7" (STOMP)
This 7" contains this Atlanta Hardcore band's 2011 demo on the A side and their songs from the written off split on the B side.

OUTCROWD "JUST US" 7" (REAPER)
Guitar, bass and drum players Pete, Steven and John started Atlanta, GA's Out Crowd in the winter of 2010. While the demo encapsulated a raw, late-'80s youth-crew style hardcore, "Just Us" is musically and lyrically a major step up from the demo. Recorded at the Out Crowd headquarters and produced by the almighty Nick Jett, get ready to dive, skank and stomp with "Just Us."

CONFUSE "SPENDING LOUD NIGHT" 7" (FANCLUB)
Extremely well-done bootleg of Confuse's most well-known 7". This one has solid, punchy sound and perfectly replicates the original artwork, right down to the center labels. No shitty bootleg, this looks and sounds as good as most official reissues, and of course you won't be seeing any official Confuse reissues any time soon.

PUTAS MIERDAS "EXTINCION" 7" (TRABUC)
After 2 7"s and a long delay, Putas Mierdas are back with a 3 song 7".  Expect more of the same on this recording.  Raw yet catchy and melodic punk punk with lots of hooks.  Limited to 500 copies all on red vinyl.

DRAPETOMANIA "S/T" 7" (TODO DESTRUIDO)
Drapetomania released one of the best demos last year in my opinion, so I was stoked when they agreed for me to do a 7" for them.  Drapetomania's sounds is not easy to describe, as they mix South American punk with melodic/Oi! influences while still keeping it raw and aggressive.  Intead of me trying to describe it I will post a link to the song so you can hear for yourself.  Limited to 500 copies on full color offset fold out sleeve. Members of Mata Mata and Tuberculosis for those keeping tabs.

DIAT "PICK A LINE" 7" (IRON LUNG)
Rarely does an unsolicited email even raise an eyebrow but No Accent and Pick A Line really knocked us over. Expertly tight catchy drumming, cold as ice monotone pitch perfect post-punk vocals and a rhythm section that would make James Brown mush-mouthier with jealousy. Sorta sounds like "Mesh & Lace" MODERN ENGLISH playing CRISIS covers but with smarter lyrics. We heard a rumor that DIÄT formed with the sole purpose of playing with TOTAL CONTROL in Berlin, where they're from. I could believe the story since 2/3 of the band are actually Australian but I choose not to because the songs are too good to be so casual about. This band will do great things starting now. ILR is proud to debut this power trio to the world.

SEA LIONS / GOLDEN GRRRLS -SPLIT 7" (STATIC SHOCK)
Oxnard, California's Sea Lions came over to the UK for the first time in July 2012 for Indietracks fest and embarked on a tour with London / Glasgow group Golden Grrrls. To commemorate the occasion they released a limited tour 7" which now sees a world wide release. Both bands contributed an original song and a cover version. Sea Lions take apart 'Nervous Breakdown' by Black Flag, turning it into a shambling nugget of shrill guitar versus Adrian Pillado's laconic vocal delivery and contributed 'On and Off' - as close to an anthem as Sea Lions get. Golden Grrrls tackle 'I Don't Want You Anyway' by kiwi group Look Blue Go Purple, remaining fairly faithful to the original with some added punk energy, while their original is a garage pop bullet in the form of 'Billy,' which sees Ruari MacLean take lead vocal to counter the female backing. 4 songs as good as any you're going to hear this year.  A one time pressing of 600 copies. Hand stamped labels and comes with download code. A split release with Night School Records.

TINO VALPA "WALK THE WALK" 7" (KANGAROO)
From Dover, New Hampshire: Tino Valpa. Second ep picks up where the first one left off. 15 blasting tracks in early 80's hardcore tradition. Tino Valpa is the lead singer of the Cryptics and this is his second 7". Now that the introductions are over, you should probably know that this record fucking shreds. There are 15 (yes, FIFTEEN) tracks of pure fucking hardcore - no mess, no fuss, this gets straight to the point. Apart from the ripping hardcore, you get some pretty crazy artwork and two covers of classic hardcore tunes (Poison Idea's "Pure Hate" and Verbal Abuse's "Social Insect".) If that's not enough to get you to check this one out, I don't really know what is.

CLEANSING WAVE "S/T" 7" (PRGNT)
The newest 7" on PRGNT records comes from Worcester's Cleansing Wave. Early this year they did a split flexi with G.A.S.H. (Boston) and this picks up right where that left off. 6 raging songs of raw punk with reverb drenched vocals. Limited to 300, comes with a lyric sheet and poster.

UTAH JAZZ "S/T" 7" (FERAL KID)
After a ripping demo tape on Drug Party tapes, this is the debut vinyl release for the Utah Jazz. members of Brown Sugar and Mayday! join forces for this maniacal band. This is a truly mind-blowing record.

DRY FEET "HIGHWAY TO HECK" 7" (SECRET COOKIES)
The undisputed kings of Philadelphia Beach surf return with their second 7" single!

TESTORS "TOGETHER" 7" (WINDIAN)
This classic slab was recorded in 1979 and released in 1980 on the Drive-In label. The Testors soon broke up after this releases, leaving this record in the vast hole of NYC punk lore. The single was the bands first and only, and extremely hard to find. This reissue includes 'Together' and 'Time Is Mine', and a never released studio recording '[This] Time Is Mine' which was an early version of 'Time Is Mine', although very different. Packaged exactly how it was 30 years ago using hi res scans of the origInal.

FILTHY GAZE OF EUROPE, THE "DOMESTIC ACCIDENTS" 7" (UGLY POP)
Dallas Good (Sadies) and Don Pyle (Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet, Crash Kills Five) deliver two tracks of assaultive electronic thrash with vocals by Damian (Fucked Up), Colohan (Swarm, Cursed, Left For Dead), Mickey Skin (Curse) and Amanda. First pressing of 200 each on opaque red, green and white wax.

BENT WIND "SACRED COWS" 7" (UGLY POP)
Bent Wind's 1970 LP "Sussex" is perhaps the rarest Canadian record there is, but before dropping that massive set of heavy psych, they debuted with a small-run 45 that hit hard with a pair of considerably more straight-forward garage psych rockers. Released on the tiny local Trend label in 1969, this is a very good single that marks the transition from mid-'60s garage to the heavier rock to come. New sleeve and insert made with full cooperation of the band, LP reissue to follow!

NORTHWEST COMPANY, THE "HARD TO CRY" 7" (UGLY POP)
Vancouver's legendary Northwest Company released a fair number of records, but nothing touched this impossible-to-find 1967 debut for sheer roughness. Hard To Cry is a wild, fast punk screamer with nasty proto-metal riffing and a caveman rhythm section and the flip's a similarly aggressive pounder with some serious frustration bleeding through. Clearly inspired by the toughest early Kinks and Who 45s, this is one of the most very sought after of all Canadian garage records, but now's your chance to pick up a high-quality, authorized reissue with excellent remastered sound and brand new sleeve.

A PASSING FANCY "LOSING TONIGHT" 7" (UGLY POP)
One of the all-time great Toronto singles, this actually had decent local chart success in early '67. The hit's a high-energy slice of quick-paced freakbeat elevated to greatness by an absolutely stinging lead guitar attack, while the eponymous flipside delivers an insistent mid-tempo jangle built around a haunting chorus. Utterly essential for those who dig the classic mid '60s garage sound. Remastered with a brand new picture sleeve.

BLITZ BOYS, THE "EDDY'S NEW SHOES" 7" (SING SING)
Punks were few and far between in the Forest of Dean - a remote, heavily wooded, former coal-mining area on the border between England and Wales. You had to be dedicated or stupid to survive the constant ambushes from local disco boys, bikers and rugby club drunks. Five teenage punks ('Topper' Toplis, Jer Phelps, Drew Smith, Jon Ralphs, Barry Phillips) united in a love of The Boys, The Ramones, T Rex and 60s girl-groups formed The Blitz Boys. A million miles from the narcissism of the deteriorating London scene the boys drew inspiration more from Northern Ireland - the tunes and escapism of Good Vibrations Records, of Protex, Rudi, The Outcasts and The Undertones. It was DIY or do-nothing. Gigs were initially few and far between - and what gigs there were often ended abruptly due to fighting amongst, or with, the audiences...or equipment failure. Helped by incendiary Gloucester punks Demob, who gave them support slots, the boys began to pick up more gigs and press. In 1980 The Blitz Boys second studio venture yielded 3 tracks ? live favourites Eddy's New Shoes, She Told My Friends She Loved Me (But She's Too Shy To Talk To Me) and Eddy's Friend. Self-funded with the support of their loyal circle of friends and fans, and with outstanding artwork from the Inadequate Youth, the Eddy's New Shoes EP was released on the bands own Told You So Records ? a dig at a journalist who predicted they'd never achieve anything. Within a week the title track was getting repeated plays by John Peel who also aired both flip-side tracks. The great man 'got it', commenting that he loved bands who created their own world. They met with Peel at the BBC and things momentarily looked bright with a second single planned and talk of a Peel session. But it wasn't to be. The band was always destined to burn briefly (and vividly). Eddy's New Shoes was a poignant legacy created from the chaos and the total lack of focus which would lead to the bands inevitable evaporation. Barry carried his guitar through various other bands eventually realising his ambition when The Rainsaints signed to Good Vibrations Records. Meanwhile, Eddy's New Shoes became a cult track - pirated on a number of punk compilations despite the band's ambivalence, but until now never legitimately re-released.

RAZAR "STAMP OUT DISCO" 7" (SING SING)
Brisbane in the late '70s seemed to encourage more than its share of youthful rebellion. While the Bjelke-Peterson regime didn't encourage protest, it provided lots to protest against. Punk music's do-it-yourself ethos encouraged ordinary people to take control and have their say. Police harassment, the onslaught of disco, money or the lack of it, television news sensationalism and pre-packaged 'teenage' entertainment such as Countdown meant there was a lot to sing about. And the vibrant Brisbane music scene produced a remarkable number of you bands that, while not achieving the international fame of The Saints, made their mark on the hearts and minds of the local audience. Razar was formed in Brisbane in 1977. The band featured vocals by seventeen year old Marty Burke, with fifteen year old Bob Wackley on bass, his eighteen year old brother Greg (Keg) Wackley on drums and sixteen year old Steve Mee on guitar. All four had known each other at school and had performed in earlier cover bands. The boys were keen musicians, and were already starting to write their own original material.  With Razar, the music and the thrust hit you somewhere between Gut Central and the Pleasure Centre - you just can't help but feel great. The playing's sharp as the name. Each number was like a jolt of power, the whole thing sussed for maximum effect. No sloppy intros, missed lines, fuzz out anti-climaxes. Just a two-three minute surge, then cut. "Every song we has was very fast. Out policy, our slogan at the time was YOUNG, FAST & NON-BORING" (Marty Burke)

ADRENALIN "CUMZ N GOES" 7" (SING SING)
Detroit Rock circa 1976 meant one thing and one thing only:  the ready-made light beer commercial sounds of ?Night Moves? by Silver Bullet Bob Seger.  And if that one fact is not enough to convince you that the high time, high-tide of high-powered Motor City rock was definitively dead mid-Me-Decade then you can see also Glenn Frey.  However, there remained many ideological hold-outs; bright spots amongst the burned-out crags of Detroit?s blighted skyline:  Sonic?s Rendezvous, Death, The Dogs, Lightnin?.   But the band that came the closest ? in true garage group style ? to recapturing the excitement and spirit of the Grande Ballroom with one fell double-sided swoop before hopping a bus-ride back to nowhere was Adrenalin.  Looking, from surviving video footage, like the featured entertainment at a Hamtramck Junior Prom, but sounding like a junior varsity MC5, the Guitar Army rampage on ?Rock N Roll Screamer? reeks of amphetamines and A2 residue; the gymnastic histrionics of Sonic Smith most particularly.  The flip-side?s no slouch either.  Easily in the same league as ?City Slang,? ?Raw Power? or ?Borderline,? ?Rock N Roll Screamer,? originally issued without a picture sleeve on the obscure local Fiddlers imprint, is the happiest of accidents as Adrenalin?s intentions were never proto-punk glory.  The best record I don?t own and, in my mind, the best justification for the continued search for obscure and unknown records.  BUY IT NOW! (Collin Makamson)

BATS, THE "POPGUN" 7" (SING SING)
That the Bats came from that era and didn?t suck is an amazing fact du jour. And, for the record, these Bats came and went long before the like-named New Zealand group even formed (and then fluttered into their own cave of obscurity). The Bats from New Haven, CT comprised three songwriters and this near perfect single that melded New Wave, Ventures noodling, well-meaning but misplaced prog and, best of all, catchy, beautiful pop.  What's on the vinyl is well-crafted, if youthful power pop. This group is only a trio, and from their looks quite young but manages to project a full, powerful sound. Though on a small label the sound is crisp and professional. To those who wake up every morning to well worn copies of the Raspberries' "Go All the Way," this one's for you. ? Billboard October 2, 1982.

P.S. ELIOT "LIVING IN SQUALOR" 7" (FREEDOM SCHOOL)
A head-spinning blend of loud punk rock and 90's alterna-sweetness, with straight-up pop excellence as the glue that holds it tightly together.

MUGGER - 2012 DEMO TAPE
