GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS AND MAILORDER
Webstore Update / 10.09.15

Well hellooooo … we are almost through the year and things have been pretty busy here at GMHQ as 2015 winds down. Here's a recap of everything that's been going on in the GM webstore over the past month, as well as a little update for you with some new distro titles (from the likes of Pleasure Leftists, Absolut, Parnaoid, Nasty Facts, Rata Negra, Longings, and more) that were recently added.

NIGHT BIRDS Sale and Test Press Contest - Ends Sunday!

First off, for the past month we've been running a sale on all NIGHT BIRDS releases (both CD/LP formats) on Grave Mistake; Born to Die in Suburbia, The Other Side of Darkness, and Fresh Kills Vol. 1.  The sale ends this Sunday night, so now's your chance to grab any of their back catalog for a good price!  You can check out that sale HERE - all of those titles are marked down along with all package deals/bundles for multiple releases which will save you even more cash.

Their newest LP, Mutiny at Muscle Beach, was just released on Fat Wreck Chords and you should check it out (stream it HERE!) because it's awesome. Night Birds have a handful of shows coming up over the next few months, including some great shows this weekend with Dillinger Four. All of those dates are listed below.

In addition to the sale, we are also running a pretty rad Test Press contest to go along with it.  All you have to do to enter is pick up one of these earlier Night Birds releases during the sale, and you could win a test pressing of their Born to Die in Suburbia LP. For more info on that, check out the full post HERE.

IRON BOOTS Complete Discography LP - Out Now!

The latest Grave Mistake release is officially out now - a twenty song discography from one of Virginia's finest hardcore acts, IRON BOOTS.  We went all out with this discography, including the full remaster treatment from Daniel at North London Bomb Factory, some awesome new cover art courtesy of Spoiler, and a killer 24x24 poster insert - definitely worth picking up if you were a fan of the band, a casual listener, or if you are just looking to check them out for the first time! I can assure you this material has never sounded better (especially on wax).

You can pick up a copy of the Iron Boots Complete Discography LP HERE

If you want to give it all a listen or downlad, then head over to the Grave Mistake Bandcamp page and check it out!  The LP is currently making the rounds this month through myself and Triple B Records, with whom this was a co-release; all preorders have shipped, and we have the final copies of the limited Orange Vinyl slowly disappearing - so grab one before they are gone!

In addition to the reissue, we also reprinted a couple of rad Iron Boots shirt designs - so snag one of those while you are at it! For more info on the release, head over to yesterday's update HERE.

Finally, here's a Distro update for you …

New Webstore Titles from Pleasure Leftists, Absolut, Longings, Nasty Facts, Rata Negra, and More!

Surprisingly not too much new stuff has accumulated over the past month, but here's a quick rundown for you -

Grabbed a few new titles from Deranged Records -  the brand new Pleasure Leftists LP, Flowers of Evil LP, and Century Palm 7"; grabbed a couple of sick KBD fanclub singles, the Public Disturbance "S&M" 7" and Nasty Facts "Drive My Car" 7"; scored the latest fire from Beach Impediment - the Absolut / Paranoid split LP; got new LP from MA's Longings; plus stocked up on7"s from Cadaver em Transe, Rata Negra, and Freak Vibe, not to mention some reissues from upstate New York - reissue of the first Modern Warfare 7", Moderns 7", and Bloodstains Across Buffalo Compilation LP.

Some new tapes in the store as well, including the debut of Richmond's latest, Terminal Five (which features members of Cretins and Slugz), Dead Hero demo, and Criminal Wave demo.

Did some zine stocking as well, including the two most recent issues of Distort, latest issue of Nuts (plus a restock on a ton of Nuts back issues), and newest issue of Stitches in My Head.

That's all for now, you can check out descriptions for all of these releases below, following the upcoming Night Birds dates. Thanks for reading and thanks for the support!

New Distro Titles for 10.09.15:

PLEASURE LEFTISTS "The Woods of Heaven" LP (Deranged Records)
Pleasure Leftists formed in 2010 with vocalist Haley Morris, guitarist Kevin Jaworski, drummer Mark TerVeen, and bassist Steve Peffer. With a clear vision in place, the group made its debut with a self-titled EP that recalls everything from Joy Division to Comsat Angels to Chameleons. Unlike many who rip off these influences, Pleasure Leftists take only a few cues from the past, all to better construct its understanding of the present. The Woods of Heaven is the band's first proper LP after a string of EPs and singles through labels such as Katorga Works, Fan Death Records, and its current home, Deranged Records. This album features an aggressive tone with tense yet catchy songs such as "Cannon" and "Heaven's Rocker." Lead single "You You” is a perfect showcase of just how impressive a vocalist Haley Morris is—not only in her range but in her audible confidence, which propels every track like an engine motor. The Woods of Heaven is a jaw-dropping debut full-length. Most artists dream of writing an LP where every song sounds important, urgent, and necessary. Pleasure Leftists have done just that.

FLOWERS OF EVIL "S/T" LP (Deranged Records)
Flowers Of Evil crawled out of the New York City sewer in the sweltering summer of 2014. Armed with a set of avant-snot rippers, they’ve been leaving a trail of broken glass and bloody noses all over the city. Their self-titled debut album is coming soon from Deranged. For fans of the Germs, Rudimentary Peni, the Monorchid and beyond.

CENTURY PALM "Valley Cyan" 7" (Deranged Records)
Two song single with Valley Cyan b/w Accept It's perhaps cliche to speak of a new band bursting upon the scene, but in the case of Toronto's Century Palm, such a claim is entirely valid. This collaborative project between five veterans of the Canadian underground has amassed no small degree of interest from the informed and attentive. Century Palm is a new group with ambitions far beyond their rawer formative endeavours, and the extent of that shared vision is now becoming clear. Not content to simply combine influences, Century Palm slither effortlessly across genre boundaries, drawing upon myriad times and places. Simple Minds, The Units, Neu!, Wire, Television, Brian Eno's pop records, and contemporary sounds from the Australian garage rock subterrain all come to mind. Century Palm frequently employ minimal but propulsive rhythms in service of intoxicating melodies. Songs shiver, pulsate and glisten, losing none of the essential energy of band members' previous projects while adding new worlds of texture and feeling. There's a fascinating tension, a palpable struggle between their inner selves and their music that demands to be heard. Now all you need to do is listen. – Simon Harvey, Ugly Pop

ABSOLUT / PARANOID Split LP (Beach Impediment Records)
ABSOLUT (Canada) and PARANOID (Sweden) team up to unleash this split 12" of JAWBREAKING MANGEL DEVASTATION! We are pretty proud of this release as it comes with full color artwork by the legendary Japanese hardcore punk artist SUGI and comes in a gatefold sleeve. Its limited to 500 (400 black vinyl and 100 transparent orange). If you've heard either band before you know what to expect. ABSOLUT plays devastating HC punk influenced by late era Cimex and other punk bands with a metal tinge to them. The vocals on this are relentless. PARANOID hailing from Sweden have members from many other Swedish kang bands and are in my opinion one of the worlds best current punk acts. Taking influence from the countless raging Swedish bands they grew up with but also taking plenty of cues from Japan and combining them into a barrage of intense hardcore punk that will leave you numb!

NASTY FACTS "Drive My Car" 7" (Fanclub Pressing)
Yet another excellent fanclub edition of a classic KBD single. The lone release from this Brooklyn band, "Drive My Car" is one of the best American punk songs ever recorded. Well, now you can get it for a reasonable price! And, not unlike the recent Suicide Squad 7", this fanclub edition sounds FANTASTIC.

PUBLIC DISTURBANCE "S&M" 7"
(Fanclub Pressing)
Yet another excellent fanclub edition of a classic KBD single. Originally released on the legendary Mutha records, Public Disturbance's debut EP is one of the finest records of its kind, hence the $300-$400 price tag. Well, now you can get it for a reasonable price! And, not unlike the recent Suicide Squad 7", this fanclub edition sounds FANTASTIC.

RATA NEGRA "S/T" 7" (Discos MMM)
Spain has been on the top of its game lately for great punk bands and RATA NEGRA is no exception. The band formed when "Juanita" from JUANITA Y LOS FEOS and Pablo, drummer for LA URSS got together in Madrid and started playing. The result is just what you would hope, top notch melodic and dark punk along the lines of ULTIMO RESORTE, AGENT ORANGE, ADOLESCENTS and even WIPERS. Here is their debut 7" giving you 4 songs. Folks in LA already got a shot at the 7" when RATA NEGRA played a house party last month around the JUANITA Y LOS FEOS U.S./Mexico tour. Don't sleep on this one: 300 pressed.

CADAVER EM TRANSE "S/T" 7" (Iron Lung Records)
Countries with strict borders and immigration policies are ruining the cultural exchange, the enrichment, the fucking quality of life that is an inherent right for all of humanity. Social media is no substitute for real life experience. By denying Brazil's CADAVER EM TRANSE entry, the US government has made it impossible for us to further ourselves as a people and a community. This is bullshit.  For those of us who will not get to see this band full of productive, passionate, driven, warm hearted and artistically important people, ILR has opted to at least make their music available to you. 4 stunningly crafted gritty não wave punk charmers in the vein of MUZAK's sharp angled post punk or VZYADOQ MOE's raw wave darkness with a slight and steady undercurrent of industrial heaviness. Members of RAKTA.  400 copies of heavy duty clear/black marble vinyl in a textured pocket sleeve with insert and fancy silver sticker. Art by Murilo Pommer. Photos by Mateus Mondini.

LONGINGS "S/T" LP
(Framework Records)
Longings explore the dark passages of post-punk with an intricate and melodic edge. Both bleak and levitative, their self-titled debut aggressively conquers themes of frustration & isolation. The Western Massachusetts trio, comprised of Meghan Minior, Will Killingsworth, and Cole Lanier, have grown and intensified their sound dramatically since the release of their 2013 demo tape, and it truly shows on these recordings. Over the course of eight songs, the band crafts an acute and urgent album by way of dynamic guitar work, compelling vocals, and spirited delivery. We could not be happier to release this record to the world. All copies on colored vinyl, with newsprint poster insert and download card.

MODERN WARFARE "Dayglo Shadows Delivered" 7" (UT Records)
Reissue of the underrated first 7 from Modern Warfare. Popular opinion will tell you the "#2" 7" is the better (and more expensive) record, but not me. Three tracks of perfect 1980 Geza X-produced Long Beach punk, "In the Shadows" is a great early LA punk tune, with twin guitar interplay and a nice little hook. "Delivered" has some great stereophonic guitar trickery and always reminded me a bit of The Dils, "Dayglo" is a tight little punk stomper a la Eyes with more cool Geza production tricks. An under-rated record from an under-rated band and under-rated scene/label in general, that whole weird little Bemis thing is a really cool little early Eighties niche that hasn't been plundered by the reissue labels yet - Ut tapped a good vein here, with some more Bemis label surprises coming in 2015. Scum stats: three different silkscreened (inside and out) sleeve color variations."- Terminal Boredom

MODERNS, THE "When She Gets Back" 7" (
Feral Kid Records)
Recorded in 1979, The Moderns only recording sat for 35 long years before seeing the light of day. An incredible unsung power-pop/punk/new wave record, now available. snag this lost classic before its gone!

FREAK VIBE "Cuss Gang" 7" (CV Records)
From the sewers of Seattle comes Freak Vibe. They play punk in the vein of The Cramps and The Stooges. That means heavy on the cool guitars, the blues vibe and the scummy attitude of those early punk bands that just loved primitive and simple rock and roll. If you cried when Lux Interior died, you think that Poison Ivy is the best guitarist in the world or are just like me, a poseur that rediscovered The Cramps just a couple of years ago and now think it is the best band in rock history, then Freak Vibe is for you. This guys and girls are doing a Spring Tour. Check them out they are good. First time I saw them in their native Seattle they blew me away, they are like wild animals with instruments. The drummer is Latino and one of the most violent hitters I have seen, the guitarist has the moves and nice facial hair, the bass player has STYLE and cool hair and the vocalist is just Latino scum. They are even playing a few fests here and there, just in case you go to those kind of events.

AARON AND THE BURRS "Release the Bats" 7" (Feral Kid Records)
Debut vinyl release from Buffalo surf powerhouse Aaron & the Burrs after two killer cassettes. Produced by the Legendary Geza X. Covers are hand screen printed on different colored stock.

V/A "Bloodstains Across Buffalo" Compilation LP
(Extra Evidence Productions)
Bloodstains Across Buffalo LP - the first city specific compilation in the classic BLOODSTAINS saga. 15 tracks of first-wave punk and power-pop from Buffalo, NY, all from the golden age of punk; 1977-1984. A total classic!

TERMINAL FIVE Demo Tape (Feel It Records)
Three fresh cuts of loud punk rock from Richmond’s best new export, THE TERMINAL FIVE. Four SLUGZ members kept together after the group disbanded, resulting in a new rock’n’roll unit designed to flat out destroy. On 3x5, THE TERMINAL FIVE zero in on a sound that draws from the best 70's punk, applying a solid appreciation for the powerful songwriting and playing present on degenerate rock records like Killer and Raw Power. With the recent addition of Jarrett from SATAN’S SATYRS on guitar, THE TERMINAL FIVE are already hard at work on a proper album. Tapes come professionally duplicated and printed for best results.

DEAD HERO Demo Tape (Discos MMM)
This is the US pressing of the DEAD HERO demo tape. DEAD HERO is a female-fronted punk rock oi band with members of SECTA SUICIDA from Bogota, Colombia. They will be playing this year's VARNING FROM MONTREAL Fest and MMM is very excited to bring their music stateside. Think classic punk and oi like THE EXPELLED, ONE WAY SYSTEM, and LAST RESORT with their own Colombian twist. Great stuff.

CRIMINAL WAVE "Rural Savages" Tape
(Demo)
CRIMINAL WAVE's debut full length, "Rural Savages" delivers 13 tracks of anxiety, rage, and decay filled hardcore punk. This release pays homage to The Adolescents, TSOL, and JFA but retains its own style that is shaped by the small town and rural punk scene of Northern CA.

KOLUMNA BURRUTI Demo Tape (CV Records)
“El Burro” also known as “Severino”,etc. Is a punk that has been walking around the streets of lima with his “visu” (peruvian word for punk visual) for years and years making fun of the rich, hating cops and the government one step at a time. He is the mastermind behind bands like DHK and Ratas Rabiosas, two of my favorite bands going on right now in Latin America. Kolumna Burruti is his solo project, written, played, recorded and drawn by him and him only. This is exactly like a mix of his two bands I already mentioned. If you haven't heard about them in the past few years you need stop doing what you are doing and buy their records/tapes ASAP! Kolumna Burruti is like if two people from the japanese early Sodom and two people from the peruvian Ataque Frontal just found out about the Nordic Beat and recorded a tape. That is it more or less it. Tapes like this are the ones that keep me stoked on punk. El Burro is one of the most interesting and musical productive punks in the world and the amount of love for punk this guy has makes me happy to live right now and not the 80s.

IGNORANTES "Olor a Cuero Rancio…" Tape
(CV Records)
This little tape is probably the most exciting thing I have ever released on the label. Is one of those small things charged with backstory, exchange of letters and punk. The story goes like this: My good friend Atacho from a bunch of cool bands in Chile told me there was one of the best bands in the world right in a small town close to his city Concepcion. He told me there were insane, they didn't play too many shows and didn’t had anything online because they hated the internet, like for real. He sweared to me they were a mix of Dexkoncierto, Rasix and Ataque de Sonido. From just saying that I wanted to release their shit ASAP. I got a hold of El Barto and Gabriel and they send me their two demos on cdrs. And I have to say it is the best demos I heard in a long while, if not ever. I listen to both cdrs hundreds of times and sang their lyrics at the top of my lungs while commuting/hating my job for months. They are PUNK, harsh and real, I think Ignorantes have the of the best lyrics in punk since Eskorbuto. I told them I wanted to release this on a 12” but they promise to send me new songs for an 12” that is coming on Cintas Pepe and CVR in a few months (years? decades?). For now we will have to conform with this tape called “Olor a Cuero Rancio, Vino y Raja” (smell of rotten leather, wine and ass in English) Check them out!

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #389 - October 2015 (MRR)
Maximum Rocknroll #389, the October 2015 issue! On the cover we’ve got SICK THOUGHTS, teen punk and the man behind the most prolific one-man-band du jour. Robert Collins of CONQUEST FOR DEATH takes us on the band’s recent tour of Mongolia, South Korea, China, and Japan (lots of his patented fukks included!) and we’ve got a double dose of Portland, Oregon, with interviews with the STOPS and VIVID SEKT. We go deep and dark into the damaged minds of San Francisco’s SWIFTUMZ, find out about Detroit stalwarts TYVEK, get clued into a bit of the Irish hardcore scene with RATS BLOOD, and speak with Danish dark punks MOTH and Croatian synth punks MODERN DELUSION, plus a conversation with Oakland-based feminist, anarchist, badass-ist duo RAGANA. And, as always, your essential guide to new punk records, demos, books, and zines, and all of your favorite columnists.

STITCHES IN MY HEAD #8 Zine
(Zine)
Latest dispatch from Cleveland-via-Australia's STITCHES IN MY HEAD fanzine. This issue includes interviews with GIBBOUS (from St. Louis, remember that killer 7" single Lumpy did?), Boston's ANIMAL MOTHER, Clevo HC label KONTON CRASHER, a SEX DWARF US tour journal, plus interviews with new Aussie groups CUM and OBAT BATUK. All this plus the energetic smattering of reviews and live photos that you've come to expect from SIMH. Edition of 40 printed by Feel It.

NUTS ZINE Issue #16
(Nuts)
NUTS! #16 continues in short and sweet style of the past couple issues - this time Ben chats with NYC locals VANITY and NANDAS. SHEER MAG expound on the lyrics to their first EP. West coast scene coverage from Laura Pallmall and Julia Booz, plus live reviews from the editor and a bonus insert from Mike Caiazzo of Mommy. Cover artwork by Nay Rosario of La Misma.

DISTORT #48 Zine (Distort)
A tribute to Al Montfort, Snake, who has spent the last decade playing in some of Melbourne's most active underground bands - Straightjacket Nation, The UV Race, Total Control, Dick Diver, East Link and Lower Plenty. From mutant glam punk to psychotic hardcore to damaged post punk to feral dole wave, Snake has made a huge impact on the sound and drive of contemporary Australian music. In 2013, Douglas Lance Gibson interviewed Al and DX about playing in bands together for the past ten years, and shot some photographs. The bulk of this issue is this interview and photographs. Also in this issue is an interview by Tim Scott with Al Montfort and a complete to time of printing discography of his recording career, numbering a significant 66 releases. North American edition with red cover printed by Feel It.

DISTORT #47 Zine (Distort)
Establishing a thinking about music and writing about music that is unsympathetic to academic resonance or market value is very important. Distort is in this spirit. I lay in bed and listen to the city and think about Sakevi plotting revenge. He knows what you did.  Modern Melbourne comedown: interviews with Brando's Island, Justin K Fuller and Moon Rituals, a piece by Jess Johnson who illustrated the art on the cover, a piece by Jesse Thomas about the YDI record Black Dust, and some writing on choice modern psychedelic, hardcore and psychotic electronic music: Glue, Blotter, Puce Mary, Culo, Long Knife, Perspex Flesh, Martyr Privates, Goosebumps.  North American edition with red cover printed by Feel It.
