It's been a really busy month here and I've accumulated a lot of new titles ... a bunch of brand new releases as well as a good number of cool releases that have been around for a little while that I thought would fit nicely in the webstore. You'll notice that this update is kind of all over the place, but as you have probably guessed, that's how I like it - something for everyone. I like to think that most of these records compliment each other in some way, hopefully you'll find something you've been looking to pick up, or even better - something new (or old) to check out!

For the new stuff, two new SORRY STATE releases which are the newest UX VILEHEADS LP and the final 12" from the UK's SHITTY LIMITS, who sadly called it a day last month. I picked up some new LPs from the INSERVIBLES, BROWN SUGAR, STEVE ADAMYK BAND, BANNER PILOT, SCREECHING WEASEL, SAMIAM, CONCENTRATION SUMMER CAMPS, THE GIRLS AT DAWN, GHOUL, CANNABIS CORPSE, and OBN III's; got a bunch of copies of the newest TERRIBLE FEELINGS 7", along with some other new singles from BOOM BOOM KID, POISON PLANET, MY RIFLE, MIND AS PRISON, FUCK DETECTOR, and DIVINE RIGHT.
There are some killer reissues, including a Double LP of the classic NEW BREED TAPE COMPILATION, a POISON IDEA early demos/outtakes collection, and bunch of new reissues from SING SING (PUMPHOUSE GANG, JET STAXX, DWARF) and LAST LAUGH (CRITICAL MASS, THE EMBARRASSMENT), and a repress of the 90's QUEERS classic GROW UP.
I picked up a bunch of titles from SUB POP, including the brand new DUM DUM GIRLS LP along with their other two 12"s (all of these are highly recommended), some MUDHONEY and SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE LPs, and the classic DWARVES "BLOOD GUTS AND PUSSY" LP; I finally stocked up on all of the PAUL COLLINS BEAT LPs from GET HIP, and grabbed a few more older SPITS titles as well ... plus a couple older ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT and OBLIVIANS titles that had been unavailable for a while on vinyl. I also grabbed the newest MAGIC BULLET releases including the second CHARLES MANSON LP in the ATWA series, a repress of the MAJORITY RULE / PG 99 split LP, and the SSORC LP/7". For all of you 60's garage/surf enthusiasts, have no fear ... I picked up a bunch of awesome comps including several volumes of CRYPT's "BACK FROM THE GRAVE" series, NORTONS "UNISSUED 60's GARAGE ACETATES" series, a couple of rad surf comps, and several volumes of the PEBBLES comps.
Finally, some new zines (new issues of JERK STORE, PERRO MALDITO, and MAXIMUMROCKNROLL), and a handful of new tapes including the BIRTH DEFORMITIES and VIOLENT REACTION demos, and some rad european collection tapes from STRAIGHTJACKET NATION and DESKONOCIDOS. NEW RECORDS FOR 11/25/11:
SHITTY LIMITS, THE "SPECULATE/ACCUMULATE" LP (SORRY STATE)
After one of the most impeccable runs of vinyl in modern punk, this 12" EP sadly marks the Shitty Limits' swan song. It's been a long road from Limits Appear to here, but if, like me, you have thought every Shitty Limits record was better than the last then you'll be wild about this 12". While there are still spastic hardcore bangers like "Survey Says," the quirky, Fall-esque influences apparent on the last few releases come to the fore with songs like "Medication Time" and "Future Mantra." I'm still crushed that this band decided to call it quits, but at least Speculate/Accumulate assures that I'll have a great soundtrack when I cry myself to sleep each night. Limited to 300 copies.
UX VILEHEADS "HARDCORE XI" LP (SORRY STATE)
After two killer 7" EPs, Umeå, Sweden's UX Vileheads unleash their debut LP. While the Vileheads have always played a killer mix of straight up 80s USHC and UK82 punk, the latter element is even more conspicuous on this material, making it the band's catchiest to date. No other current band so effectively combines the gritty energy of Minor Threat and early Black Flag with the fist-pumping singalongs of the UK Subs. Those who are familiar with the band and its members no doubt have high expectations, and Hardcore XI summarily exceeds them. Quite simply, this is a perfect hardcore LP.
INSERVIBLES "S/T" LP (SHOGUN)
Coming from Mexico, a country where street executions and drug Lords are at war with everybody, INSERVIBLES can be described as the soundtrack of the Mexican nightmare. Their deranged hybrid of negative Hardcore with no-fi garage as been compared to NERORGASMO, RAW POWER, VOID or THE REATARDS. The 13 tracks contained in this LP may bring to mind some of those bands but there is something else behind all those layers of filth they call music. Acid lyrics with a macabre sense of humour, laughing as a statement against the world and a continuous vile-spit on the face of formal folklore. All housed in a tasteless jacket designed Yecatl Peńa.
V/A "NEW BREED TAPE COMPILATION" 2xLP (WARDANCE)
Re-issue of this legendary NYHC compilation from 1989. The re-mastered LP version features four exclusive bonus tracks plus the original twenty page lyric booklet. There will be an alternate limited edition that will include a silk-screened "Wild Style" LP cover (200 made) available to the first 200 mail orders. Bands on the compilation: ABSOLUTION, OUTBURST, LIFE'S BLOOD, BREAKDOWN, BEYOND, RAW DEAL plus 15 other rocking NYHC bands from that golden era. (the OUTBURST tracks are worth the price of admission alone)
POISON IDEA "DARBY CRASH RIDES AGAIN" LP (TKO)
This month, TKO Records kicks off the much anticipated POISON IDEA “Kings Of Punk” reissue series with “Darby Crash Rides Again: The Early Years.” This LP collects twenty-nine tracks from the band’s earliest days. Included are the 100% previously unreleased “Boner’s Kitchen” demo from 1981, the complete “Darby Crash Rides Again” demo from 1982, the complete uncut live-on-the-air set from the 1983 KBOO radio benefit, and lastly, outtakes from the “Record Collectors Are Pretentious Assholes” recording session. Much of this material is appearing on vinyl for the first time. All the recordings have been meticulously restored by Enormous Door Mastering for this release. This LP comes in a gatefold jacket and printed inner sleeve that is jam packed with old flyers, liner notes and tons of previously unpublished photos from the band’s beginnings. All copies include a download coupon. Really, this LP is a complete no-brainer for POISON IDEA fans or any fan of the early days of American Hardcore Punk.
BROWN SUGAR "SINGS OF BIRDS AND RACISM" LP (FEEBLE MINDS)
New York's Brown Sugar have been kicking around for several years, but they're just now getting around to recording their debut full-length. In my opinion, it was more than worth the wait. This is exactly the kind of diverse, ambitious, and fully-realized full-length that we have come to expect from the very best bands from upstate NY, including Shoppers, Rational Animals, and Insubordinates. Like all of those bands, Brown Sugar definitely have their own unique sound... the core is chunky, mid-paced punk... not as dirge-y as Rational Animals, but rarely reaching true hardcore tempos either. Songwriting-wise, this reminds me a little bit of the early Fucked Up singles, but Brown Sugar incorporate a lot more... there's saxophone, some weird dissonant passages, and other little surprises scattered all throughout this record. It's not just an "everything and the kitchen sink" type of record, though... like the Insubordinates LP, every move seems well thought-out and seems to flow logically from the next. Upstate NY is quickly establishing itself as one of the most exciting scenes in the country, and with this LP Brown Sugar have created one of the most exciting documents from that scene. Highly recommended.
STEVE ADAMYK BAND "FOREVER WON'T WAIT" LP (DIRTNAP)
The Steve Adamyk Band are a bunch of obnoxious, rowdy, "kids" from Ottawa, Ontario. While the name would automatically draw comparison to a blues, jazz or rock band given the layout, make no mistake; the Steve Adamyk Band are a punk band. The SAB play trash-pop inspired by seventies punk, the skinny tie bands of the eighties and nineties garage rock. From the ashes of Million Dollar Marxists (Gearhead Records) and Sedatives (Deranged Records), the group was born out of necessity - a whack load of orphan songs with no band to call home. Frustrated playing in bands the would eventually call it quits, Adamyk formed a band that could have an endless timeline, even if the name is outside of the standard band name zone. Releasing two European singles before their first live performance, the SAB would go on to unload 4 seven inch singles and an LP in 2010. The self-titled LP in question sold out its initial pressing in three months and received rave reviews, including being hailed as Ben Weasel's favourite album of 2010. The following year, the SAB toured Europe, performed at SXSW and recorded their sophomore LP "Forever Won't Wait" to be unleashed by Portland, OR's Dirtnap Records closing in on the end of the year. More touring and releases are currently in the works for 2012, as it doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
SCREECHING WEASEL "CARNIVAL OF SCHADENFREUDE" LP (RECESS)
"The new Screeching Weasel EP will remind all who listen why Ben is still among the pantheon of pop-punk geniuses. The title of the EP is wonderfully fitting, Schadenfreude of course a reference to a German term celebrating the misery of others, but the music within is among the freshest and sharpest SW has produced in some time. The opening salvo of the title track and the scathing “Fox News” are quick hits of infectious, speedy, sing along punk tinged with biting sarcasm. With references ranging from people believing he is unemployed to the always accessible punching bag that is Sarah Palin, these tracks, both failing to even approach two minutes, are quick jabs to the gut that announce that SW are back, Ben is fired up, and the people who so gleefully buried him now must realize that this band is not going anywhere! The following trio of “Muscle Mary” (whose opening riff is a nice nod to “I Just Wanna Have Something to Do”), “Queen Kong” and “Parasite Murders” are impossible to dislike, as Ben again proves that while legions of bands attempt to be funny, snarky, and still punk, it is a rare talent that can combine all three traits into truly great songs. The closing “No Reason to Lie” and “Under the Bus” are slightly less ferocious musically than the other works, but each is dripping with acerbic wit, particularly the mid-tempo “Bus”, a song that makes a fitting conclusion here when one reflects upon what so-called fans and even former band members said about Mr. Weasel last spring. For those who appreciate Screeching Weasel, this EP is just another illustration of how significant and fun this band is, and yes, it’s ok to have fun, kids." - Rich Quinlan / JERSEY BEAT
BANNER PILOT "HEART BEATS PACIFIC" LP (FAT)
Described as the perfect ambassadors of Midwest punk, BANNER PILOT reinforced that role with the success of their Fat Wreck Chords debut Collapser (elected to the Punknews.org “2009 Best of” list). A perfect amalgam of their immediate influences (Dillinger Four, The Lawrence Arms, Alkaline Trio, Jawbreaker), BANNER PILOT continue to represent the genre through the impeccably crafted, gritty pop-punk songs on their latest release Heart Beats Pacific. These poetic punks turn a phrase like nobody’s business, spinning relatable situations and emotions into clever prose delivered through gruff vocals. Each of the 11 tracks on Heart Beats Pacific is a stand-alone, bona fide hit and collectively they make up a rare flawless listening experience. The band characterizes Heart Beats Pacific as “Collapser on steroids” and when asked to further expound upon that notion had this to say: “Whenever a band starts a new album, they have a choice to take a step backwards.... Or take a step forwards. We chose to take a step backwards. That gave us more room to jump two steps forward. What does that mean? Better songs, but still in the same vein as before. A few new things that make the album less straight-forward, but not in a weird way. Thicker guitars, and an overall better sound. We even cracked out a grand piano for a four-count-em-four note piano part. New things, but we don’t abandon or ignore our old sound.” Essentially Heart Beats Pacific is an escalation of BANNER PILOT’s ever expanding acclaim and will be received as such by fans and critics alike.
SAMIAM "TRIPS" LP (HOPELESS)
"Trips could not be a more appropriate album title for Berkley punk act Samiam‘s eighth studio album in just over two decades. Especially considering how far they have journeyed from their original lineup and sound in that time. Like all adventures, there have been highs (94′s Clumsy and 00′s Astray) and undeniable lows (2006′s Whatever’s Got You Down), and, ultimately, there has to be a finish. While Trips hasn’t been declared a last album, its airtight production, catchy hooks, and poppy sheen provide the definite end to any chance of bringing back the grit, and arguably the heart, of Samiam’s early work. That being said, Trips is an enjoyable, and surprisingly melodic, listen. The opening track “80 West” sets the stage for the rest of Trips: pounding drums, soaring choruses, and, for the most part, optimistic lyrics. It’s party punk, better fit for debauchery than angst and introspection. Samiam do it well, though, continuing on with “Clean Up the Mess”, where harmonized vocals and lines such as “This is gonna be a better year for me/may not believe it, but it’s true” force smiles and ferociously tapping toes. For better and worse, Trips is not all formulaic, two-minute dance songs, as the near-ballad “El Dorado” showcases through its extensive, narrative lyrics. Its toned down nature and longing cries of soaring “ohs” demonstrate a side of Samiam that may be worth pursuing further. Other breaks from the party, such as lethargic closer “Happy for You”, are not nearly as successful, but they at least thwart monotony. Although vocalist Jason Beebout’s performance is dynamic and impressive throughout, Chris Dugan (producer for Green Day and Iggy Pop) ends up being the true star of Trips. Replacing fuzz and inconsistency with intricately pieced together pop-punk, Dugan and Samiam have created a solid comeback, breathing new, emphatic life into an old name." -http://consequenceofsound.net

Originally released in 1990, here's the first album ever from THE QUEERS. A perfect combination of surfy pop, RAMONES-style punk rock, and lyrics about girls, girls, and Burger King. Completely remixed and remastered, it's time to abuse yourself with the classic slab that put the Queers in orbit!
DUM DUM GIRLS "ONLY IN DREAMS" LP (SUB POP)
On several levels, Dum Dum Girls’ second full-length Only in Dreams is a great leap forward for a gifted songwriter and an equally gifted band—it’s heavy, deeply personal stuff and surely unprecedented for this style of music. “The first record was basically the first songs I’d ever written,” says band-leader Dee Dee, “and I was thinking nostalgically about being a teenager. This record, it was pretty much impossible not to write about very recent, very real things.” Only in Dreams more than fulfills the promise of 2011’s acclaimed and fast-selling He Gets Me High EP. It retains Dum Dum Girls’ signature blend of the girl-gang eyeliner punk of the Shangri-Las, the trashy propulsion of the Cramps, and the moody atmospherics of Mazzy Star, but for the first time, all four Dum Dum Girls play and sing on the album. Now the harmonies have more depth, Jules plays her own distinctive guitar leads, and the Bambi (bass)/Sandy (drums) rhythm section powers the music like a vintage V-8 engine. Best of all, tons of time on the road—including two massively successful headlining tours—have molded Dum Dum Girls into a very formidable rock & roll band, giving the music an undeniable force.
DUM DUM GIRLS "HE GETS ME HIGH" 12" (SUB POP)
Los Angeles-based Dum Dum Girls follow up their fuzzy,girl group-inspired 2010 Sub Pop debut I Will Be with He Gets Me High, an EP composed of three originals and a cover of the swooning Smiths’ classic “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out.” Lead singer/songwriter Dee Dee, Richard Gottehrer (who also worked on I Will Be and is best known for penning “My Boyfriend’s Back” and “I Want Candy”), and Sune Rose Wagner of the Raveonettes produced the EP.
DUM DUM GIRLS "I WILL BE" LP (SUB POP)
I Will Be is the debut full-length by the Dum Dum Girls. Produced by Dee Dee and Richard Gottehrer (Strangeloves, Voidoids, Blondie, The Go-Gos and, more recently, The Raveonettes), I Will Be is neither lo-fi nor too polished. Just under thirty minutes with eleven songs, it’s a short tribute to love, fun and the classic pop form of the ’60s girl groups and early punk rockers.
GIRLS AT DAWN "CALL THE DOCTOR" LP (NORTON)
"Following a couple of excellent singles, this is the first full-length from Brooklyn’s Girls At Dawn, although 10 of its 12 tracks don’t make it past 2 minutes and their “epic” closing song lasts all of 2 minutes 36 seconds! It’s lo-fi DIY pop, their minimal production making it sound as if they’re in the room with you, but that simplicity also works brilliantly in focusing the attention on the skewed melodies and rich harmonies of the band. They’re influenced by girl-groups and 60s garage-rock, but the skittery post-punk rhythms also remind you of the more subversive pop history of bands like Dolly Mixture and the Modettes, especially on the spooky ‘I’m Alone’. The finest tracks are ‘Evil One’, sounding very 60s pop-psych with its echoey effects and harmonies, and the infectious ‘They’re Waiting’, which keeps the echo and adds girl-group call-and-response vocals. It might be just three people playing and producing scratchy 60s-saturated pop but there’s a sinewy toughness to this band and these songs that makes this record as good as anything emerging from Brooklyn right now."
OBN III'S "THE ONE AND ONLY" LP (TIC TAC TOTALLY)
New entry for the top-shelf, mid-tempo “City Slang”-vibed bangers contains zero frills and marries it down to a Stooges swagger. This debut long-player is as tight as it is unhinged. The double-deep-fried guitars and solo riffage render tunes of a hooky, hard rock sheen. Effectively transplanted from the S/T EP without a doubt. But OBNs use the stretching room an LP affords to also flirt with a Sabbath-like weight in their sound, add even further snotty attacks, and lay out ridiculously deliberate, locked-in grooves to serve on (Graham Low and Matt Hammer function as an incredible rhythm section). Of course the “Texas-tinged IVY GREEN” tag remains 100% applicable, but I’d also go for “VAMPS-meets-STOOGES” comparison here even more (101% I guess??). Matter of fact, the fucking Vamps are another Texas five-piece with a blonde guitarist too. Wha…tha…fuuuuck? 20-year time warp? Reincarnation?! All the killer riffs on this album just set it off for “front, man” Orville Neeley, whose howling episodes take over the tracks like a “front, man” should. Highlights on this thing include E-VER-Y-THING. No jokes, no riddles, no ham sandwich. I don’t care if you ARE Barrack Obama. Recorded by Orville Bateman Neeley III in hot-as-fuck Austin, Texas. As if enough sweat wasn’t baked into these tapes already. LP includes a free download and is pressed on heavyweight wax housed in a nice inner/outer sleeve deal. Get on board with this shit, and grab the singles on TTT and Super Secret Records if you ain’t dun diddit yet.
PUMPHOUSE GANG "S/T" LP (SING SING)
Formed from the ashes of a mid-70's rock band called Horse, the founding members of Pumphouse Gang - Ricky Wreckage (vocals), Ralph Von Wau Wau (bass), SG Coolbridge (guitar) and Dread 'Family Man' Jones (drums) were active on the fringes of the UK punk scene as early as late 1976. The band made regular trips from their base in Ryde on the Isle Of Wight to play London's live circuit at venues like The Marquee, The Speakeasy and The Nashville, and on the same bill as acts like Generation X, Fabulous Poodles, The Lurkers and The Only Ones. This album features the best of Pumphouse Gang's material for Splash Records, including eight tracks never previously released on vinyl. Lost classics like 'When We Were Young', 'Black And White' and 'Teenage Lament' together with those now highly collectable Splash singles only emphasise how wrong the record buying public were to ignore the band back then. Perhaps this LP will go some way to righting that wrong. - James Denholm (Worthless Trash)
SONICS, THE "SAVAGE YOUG SONICS" LP (NORTON)
Long before they delivered the full blown crunch of The Witch and Psycho, the Sonics were cutting their teeth in Tacoma teen clubs! These crude 1961-64 sides were taped live at dances and at home, showing the heavy influence of their primo idols the Wailers and includes the ultra primitive A-Rab, the group's very first recording - raw!! These tapes were recently found in a Tacoma attic. This is their first appearance ever! Liner notes by Sonics founder/guitarist Larry Parypa!
MOTORHEAD "ACE OF SPADES" LP (MERCURY)
"With the 1980 release of Ace of Spades, Motörhead had their anthem of anthems -- that is, the title track -- the one trademark song that would summarize everything that made this early incarnation of the band so legendary, a song that would be blasted by legions of metalheads for generations on end. It's a legendary song, for sure, all two minutes and 49 bracing seconds of it. And the album of the same name is legendary as well, among Motörhead's all-time best, often considered their single best, in fact, along with Overkill. Ace of Spades was Motörhead's third great album in a row, following the 1979 releases of Overkill and Bomber, respectively. Those two albums have a lot in common with Ace of Spaces. The classic lineup -- Lemmy (bass and vocals), "Fast" Eddie Clarke (guitar), and "Philthy Animal" Taylor (drums) -- is still in place and sounding as alive and crazed as ever. The album is still rock-solid, boasting several superlative standouts. Actually, besides the especially high number of standouts on Ace of Spades -- at least relative to Bomber, which wasn't quite as strong overall as Overkill had been -- the only key difference between this 1980 album and its two 1979 predecessors is the producer, in this case Vic Maile. Rock & roll got a badly needed revitalizing overhaul with Seattle's grunge explosion of the late 1980's, and Mudhoney was there to make sure it got done right. Although nearly eclipsed by the success of such bands as Nirvana and Pearl Jam, Mudhoney was arguably the most important grunge band of all. Their "Touch Me I'm Sick" defined a generation of disenchanted middle-class malcontents bored stiff by the predictable mire that rock & roll had become. SUPERFUZZ BIG MUFF compiles the band's rare early singles in one convenient package. Twelve essential tracks here, and they all rock mightily. If you're old enough you'll want to say that you were there--if you know what you're talking about, folks might believe you. SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE "LP2" 2xLP (SUB POP)
Originally formed in Seattle in 1992, Sunny Day Real Estate featured Nate Mendel (bass), William Goldsmith (drums), Dan Hoerner (guitar,vocals) and Jeremy Enigk (vocals, guitar). Following the completion of a US Tour to support Diary, the band’s debut album, the group headed back into the studio with Wood to record the follow-up. But during the recording sessions, internal tensions splintered Sunny Day Real Estate, resulting in a sudden break-up and the finished album being turned in to Sub Pop without a title or artwork. LP2 was released in November 1995, by which time both Goldsmith and Mendel had joined Foo Fighters and Enigk had begun a solo career. Sub Pop Records will re-issue both Diary and the band’s second full-length album, commonly known as LP2 (or “The Pink Album” for its entirely pink cover). Both re-mastered albums will include rare bonus tracks as well as newly written liner notes.

Two never-before-released songs are included. Many feel that RFTC's first collection of singles (All Systems Go) included many of the band's finest moments. "Through most of their existence, "subtle" was a word rarely used to describe the gloriously messed-up attack of Memphis roots punks the Oblivians, but they never sounded quite so frantic and hot-wired than they did on this live album, recorded during a feedback-laden 1994 show that found the band opening for like-minded maniacs the Woggles and the Mono Men. Briefly available in a pressing of 300 LPs in 1996 and now reissued on CD, Rock 'n Roll Holiday is one 45-minute, slightly hissy blast of cheap guitars pummeled into submission; drums beaten senseless; and hoarse bleatings about sex, violence, and various forms of anti-social behavior, punctuated by the enthusiastic cheers of the crowd, occasional pauses to right faulty equipment, and pleas for fans to purchase some of the group's many recordings. Which is to say, if you don't like your rock & roll in its raw, crude form, then you probably don't want to hear this. On the other hand, if the above description sounds like your idea of a good time, may I suggest putting this on your shopping list pronto. One sticking point: I know it's kinda dumb to single out bad taste on an album with tunes like "Plate in My Head," "And Then I Fucked Her," and " "Motorcycle Leather Boy," but three Lightnin' Hopkins and Slim Harpo fans really ought to know better than to call a song "Nigger Rich." Straight up, the garage-sounding tune "Girl to Abuse" is simply tasteless -- just the way I like it. "Gimme Some Drugs" boorishly asks you to "Give me some cocaine/Give me some meth/I want the smell of freebase/on my breath" as shoddy, overdriven guitars sweep up the mess. This sloppy three-chord wonder will inexplicably have you singing along -- to your neighbors' dismay. And to top everything off, "Rock 'N' Roll Fag-Bash" thoughtlessly puts punk-rock homophobia back into the limelight. Love it or hate it, The Spider Babies show no shame and put the balls back onto a seemingly castrated punk rock entity."

Think of a mix of KBD stuff, early 80's USHC and some weird psychedelic 70's rock. Fast songs, noisy guitars, primitive drumming, punk punk punk!
CONCENTRATION SUMMER CAMPS/WINTER STORM "SPLIT" LP (STOMP)
Split 12" from these two Spanish bands. CSC had a previous record on Discos Humeantes that was some pretty ripping garagey hardcore, but they sound utterly different on this release. The label describes them as "the Necros meets 13th Floor Elevators," and that doesn't make a bit of fucking sense. However, if I were to try and describe this band I would probably name an equally bizarre combination of bands... this is just some really unique stuff. It's raw and driving like hardcore, but like hardcore made by mental patients. So fucking weird. As for Winter Storm, their name and logo indicated that they're probably going for kind of a black metal thing, but this is much more GISM-inspired. Classic, Motorhead-style riffs delivered through a weird as fuck guitar sound and growled vocals that are a dead ringer for Sakevi. If you like new GISM-inspired stuff like Syphilitic Vaginas and Parasite these guy will be one of your new favorite bands... few bands are doing this so authentically.

With SSORC, their collective goal is quite simply “to terrify people, or to give people fear.” Mantras and themes of “Black Metal Terrorism” appear throughout both the album and the band’s limited public profile. The guitar tones are cruel and menacing, the bass is distorted and sick, Mutilation Under the Moonlight’s vocals howl with a pain seldom put to tape, and the drums blast forth as if they legitimately want to kill you. "Like many garage-philes have stated, this is the next logical step in the history of garage rock, right after the enormously influential "Nuggets" and "Pebbles" compilations. Unlike some other comps of the sort, Crypt is only interested in bringing out the best of 60s garage rock 'n' roll. This is a perfect testament to why some people considor this to be the original punk rock. I wouldn't go that far, but it certainly influenced it a good deal. While some songs on this album are better than others, there are no really unbearable tracks. "Surfside Date", the cover of "Psycho", and especially "Sticks and Stones" show why this music was so appealing to the teens of the day. "

Crypt Records' Back From the Grave 3 features more underground '60s garage rock from the Tigermen, the Hush Puppies, the Golden Catalinas, the Jesters of Newport, and others. This volume of the series has a slightly poppier, more romantic tone, as songs like the Worlocks' "I Love You," the Beau Jens' "She Was Mine," and the Shames' "Special One" demonstrate. However, the Syndicate's "Egyptian Thing" and the Treytones' "Nonymous" provide enough proto-punk edge to make the third volume of the Back From the Grave series an eclectic, worthwhile collection.

Been a while since the last volume, and the break has done 'em good, as these're real ass-kickin' blasters. Apparently there are 5 different unreleased versions of that sick little Invictas track 'Watusi', but having a hard time imagining any of 'em could top this one. V/A - "PEBBLES VOL. 1" LP (BFD)
The series that set the ball rolling back in the late 70's. Regardless of his later activities (which included ripping off hopeful young musicians) Greg Shaw deserves a lot of credit for his groundbreaking job to bring attention to local 60's records at a time when the music industry was on its knees in front of David Bowie and Elton John. Along with Lester Bangs and Lenny Kaye Shaw more or less created the concept of 60s punk, first via Bomp Magazine and then through the Pebbles, whose early volumes must've sold tens of thousands of copies by now. The original release of vol 1 (circa 1977) has a different sleeve and liners to the well-known reissue available today. No need to describe the music except to say that while side 1 has some of the greatest 45s ever made, a couple of choices on side 2 seem a bit questionable. As you may know, some tracks are pitched (most notably the Squires).
V/A - "PEBBLES VOL. 5" LP (BFD)
"From the opening rocker "No Good Woman" by The Tree, PEBBLES VOL. 5 (subtitled "Various Morons") is a vast improvement on previous volumes by reissuing 20 songs which don't have a dud among them. It's hard to choose favorites, as each song has something cool going for it, but The Five Canadians' "Writing on the Wall", The Dirty Wurds' "Why", The Magi's "You Don't Know Me", The Merry Dragons' "Universal Vagrant", The Plague's "Go Away", Fe Fi Four Plus 2's "I Wanna Come Back", The Escapades' "I Tell No Lies", The Time Stoppers' "I Need Love", 12 A.M.'s "The Way I Feel", and Shag's "Stop and Listen". Some moments which may be seen as weak by discriminating ears would be Little Phil and the Nightshadows' "The Way It Used to Be", The State of Mind's "Move", and The Satyrs' anti-war song "Yesterday's Hero", but I still loved all three. Run, don't walk, to pick up this garage band classic compilation! Every single song is superb hard-rockin' 60s perfection, with plenty of snarling male vocals, frenzied keyboards, spastic drumming, and wicked guitar and bass work."

V/A "HIGHS IN THE MID SIXTIES VOL. 2: LA '66" LP (AIP)
A companion to the PEBBLES series. The Highs in the Mid-Sixties series is a group of 23 compilation albums of garage rock and psychedelic rock recordings that were issued by AIP Records in the mid-1980s. This series is a companion to the Pebbles series of similar music; the title is technically preceded by "Pebbles Presents:". The title sounds like it might have come from a weather report, although "Highs" intends to mean "the best" (and is also an apparent drug reference), while the recordings on these albums were originally released in the mid-1960s. L.A. '66 - Bees, Sandals, Chymes, etc A regional look at US '60s garage music. AIP’s second volume in the Highs series continues their exploration of the mid-60s Los Angeles garage rock scene, heavily influenced by the happenings on the Sunset Strip (including both the riots and the folk-rock sounds of The Byrds). The one-two of “Tell Us Dylan” and “He’s Not There Anymore” are among my favorite garage-pop songs from throughout the entirety of the Pebbles/Highs universe. The Tangents take on “Hey Joe” is a worthy competitor to the Leaves’ hit, the W.C. Fields Memorial Electric String Band’s version of “Stepping Stone” adds a nice helping of garage distortion to the (later) Monkees classic, and the ferocious organ-driven “Back Seat ’38 Dodge” isn’t your father’s hot rod song.

TERRIBLE FEELINGS are four twenty-somethings from Sweden: Manuela sings, Anton plays guitar and sings, Willy plays bass and Andy plays drums. Together they play absolutely fantastic black angst-ridden power-pop and this is their 3rd - EP ( The 4 - songs from the demo in a "new outfit" aka new recorded and mixed etc. ! ) Members of the TERRIBLE FEELINGS play/have played in various other bands and projects, some very cool, some not even good. The hometown of the TERRIBLE FEELINGS is Malmö, a world-famous city for cool Punkrock- and Hardcore-bands like FY FAN, SKITKIDS, HERÄTYS, HÅRDA TIDER, SISTA SEKUNDEN (Andy plays the guitar), DIPPER and SLÖA KNIVAR. The band TERRIBLE FEELINGS formed in the fall of 2009, and their basic impetus was to do something that was thoroughly thought through and set them apart from other punk bands in their town. The band once described their sound as »sorta DISCHARGE meets LOST SOUNDS mixed with surf-guitars and 80ies Swedish punkrock. Or something. It's very melodic.« Rob Seaton from Canada voted them »AMAZING!!!« when his band STATUES shared stage with them in Malmö. Guess what. .. he’s right!
DIVINE RIGHT "PRAY FOR ME" 7" (RESIDUE)
Debut 7" from this new Chicago band featuring Steven from Loser Life / Human Mess on drums. This is some straight up, tear-ass early 80s-style hardcore with a catchy edge to it. It's mean as shit a la Negative Approach, but every song has this real solid groove that makes me want to mosh my ass off. Definitely one of the standout new hardcore bands I've heard... you can always trust Residue Records, and this 7" upholds their proud tradition.
BOOM BOOM KID "BBK" 7" (HYSTERIA)
Latest release from legendary Argentine punk figure BOOM BOOM KID. You can hear his previous band FUN PEOPLE's hardcore punk influence tinged with a power-pop sensibility. Vocals ranging from growls to wails weave through surf punk guitars, punching through frenzied melodies that stick in your head. This release is coming out in support for his unmissable US tour, those who have seen his unapologetically fun and frenetic shows already know what to expect.
POISON PLANET "OBLIVIOUS" 7" (THIRD PARTY)
For those that don't know, this 7" was originally released along side Punx Don't Drink in 2009. But the 1st press was only 100 copies due to an error at the pressing plant, thankfully it's available once more! Coming out of Chicago, IL, Poison Planet play five songs of fast, politically pissed off vegan straight edge hardcore that musically nods to bands like The Repos, 86 Mentality and Violent Minds.
JET STAXX "I'M GONNA BE THE BEST GUY" 7" (SING SING)
In the early 70's Mike Butcher worked as a studio technician at Morgan Studios in London. On relocating to Belgium a few years later to work at Morgan's other studio in Brussels he hooked up with co-worker Alan Ward (Elton Motello) to record two singles under the band names Feather and Rollerball as well as co-writing and playing guitar on most of Elton Motello's two albums. Mike Butcher also recorded two solo singles as Jet Staxx, the first 'I'm Gonna Be The Best Guy' / 'You'll Get The Chop' was released in Belgium (Topkapi 2103 131), Germany (Bellaphon BF 18594) and Holland (Scramble SRS 510.061) in the spring of 1978. In the studio, Butcher (vocals/guitar) was assisted by drummer Pascal Van Het Groenewoud and someone known as Randy Sod on bass, though it's likely Butcher played bass himself. DWARF "GOTTA GET LOUDER" 7" (SING SING)
Once in a while a single gets plucked out of obscurity which is a total revelation and becomes an obsession to track down, but rarely does this same single get played over and over and you know it has the staying power to remain a firm favourite forever. I am very glad to say that this single is one of these rare beasts. It is everything you could ever wish for and absolutely ticks ALL the right boxes. How to put a tag on 'Gotta Get Loude'r? It sits somewhere between Proto-Punk, Bubblegum/Hard Rock and Powerpop. It's insanely catchy and an instant exuberant classic. What makes this even more amazing is that most of the band were 15 at the time!'I Won't Be Back' is stupendous in its snotty Teenage Punk attitude. I was thinking of The Runaways as I believed a girl singer was involved, but this is not the case as explained by Nick Piunti "that would be me, make that pre-pubescent me..." The guitars clang and crash, the drums are full power with added momentum of a glorious cowbell nailing everything down to the beat. So put both tracks together and you end up with the best coupling since Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton! - Robin Wills (PurePop) **The original release was issued without artwork. The reissue comes housed in a Sing Sing Records company sleeve.
CRITICAL MASS "SILVER SCREEN" 7" (LAST LAUGH)
They couldn't help that they were from Florida and God help you if you sleep on this reissue of the Sunshine State's first punk band! Miami, Florida's Critical Mass rose out of the primordial ooze left in the snail-trail of the Sex Pistols' ill-fated southern U.S. tour with both sides showing dangerous levels of infection with Johnny Rotten inflection and Johnny Thunders-style guitar a year before The Eat ever recorded. A must-have, caricatured punk classic with only 200 copies originally pressed and no picture sleeve ever issued. If you don?t buy ten copies of the legit and band-sanctioned Critical Mass reissue on Last Laugh Records, there will truly be no one left to blame, but yourself!

Obtuse. Agitated. Art Punk. Neurotic. Gnarly. Gangly. Awkward. Nervous. Punk/Art/Pop. Fractured. It's amazing how many dumb adjectives can be written about a band when people futilely attempt to describe something they can't fully grasp. The Embarrassment formed in Wichita, Kansas in 1978 and along with a handful of other Midwestern bands, started to write and perform music which sounded nothing like what had come before them.

BOMBORAS "FORBIDDEN PLANET" 7" (DIONYSUS)
Before the release of their "Savage Island" album, The Bomboras released this three-track EP on Dionysus. The record has their signature sound; plenty' of reverb, farfisa organ and the band's very own edgy approach to instrumental/surf music in very organic/analog sound. The cover was drawn and designed by Shag (as were all the rest of the Bomboras releases) a few years before his worldwide fame.
MUMMIES, THE "YOU MUST FIGHT IN THE PLANET OF THE APES" 7" (SYMPATHY)
Classic 90s garage, you know the name. this is a three song EP of theirs from 1993. Originally hailing from San Mateo, California, the band was formed by Trent Ruane (organ, vocals), Maz Kattuah (bass), Larry Winther (guitar) and Russell Quan (drums).[1] They became a key part of San Francisco's burgeoning garage punk scene, along with The Phantom Surfers. With influences of surf rock, 1950s and 1960s garage rock bands such as The Sonics and more contemporary garage punk bands like Thee Mighty Caesars the Mummies eschewed the contemporary rock music of their time.
BIRTH DEFORMITIES "DEMO" TAPE
Birth Deformities is a new band from Chicago, consisting of members of Culo with Nick (Cowabunga Records CEO) on vocals. Taking influence from early 80's NY/NJ bands, similar to the approach of Omegas and Culo (obviously). This is probably one of my favorite demos of 2011, and I'm stoked to get to re-press these. Fans of cult hardcore shit like Chronic Sick and Fatal Rage will dig it, uptight PC idiots will hate it.

PERRO MALDITO - ISSUE #7 ZINE
Latest issue of this killer English-language zine from Italy. The centerpiece here is an interview with the GREAT Italian hardcore band (or project, really) Fogna, but you also get interviews with Detonate Records, Shortlived, and Reckless Aggression. This one is all music all the time... a solid read.

GOBBLINZ "S/T" CD (NAT)
Formed in 1975 in Peterborough UK GOBBLINZ were STEVE DUNMORE (drums), IAN GRAHAM (guitar, vocals), DAVE COLTON (bass), and CHRIS ALLEN (keys, vocals). All had spent several years playing clubs and pubs in a previous band but with Ian’s songwriting they decided to change direction and went into Beck Studios Wellingborough in 1976 to recorded a demo. The band soon got signed by Pinnacle and their first release “London” sold well. However after a split with their management the band recorded the Communique EP which is now one of the most sought after 7-inch new wave releases. Ian left the band in late 1978 to form THE NAME who became well known on the UK Mod scene, Dave joining a few months later. Includes the tracks from both of the band’s singles, along with eight unreleased gems. Packaged with a 20-page booklet with photos, lyrics, etc. Imported from Japan.

Cycotic Youth CD contains all 3 of there Demos 1985 , 1986 , 1987 . The 1987 has 2 of the 3 founding members of cryptic slaughter in the band. The 1986 demo personally I think is one of the best hardcore demos of the 1980s . Sadly the band was never able to make an album when they were still active, after 25 years this is there debut Release. Strongly influenced by the 1st Suicidal Album & Neighborhood Watch in music style. This is true Classic Venice Hardcore Punk Rock at its best, Ripping Hardcore; they are actually from the Santa Monica Suicidal Punks Vinyl is to follow later in the year.

For the new stuff, two new SORRY STATE releases which are the newest UX VILEHEADS LP and the final 12" from the UK's SHITTY LIMITS, who sadly called it a day last month. I picked up some new LPs from the INSERVIBLES, BROWN SUGAR, STEVE ADAMYK BAND, BANNER PILOT, SCREECHING WEASEL, SAMIAM, CONCENTRATION SUMMER CAMPS, THE GIRLS AT DAWN, GHOUL, CANNABIS CORPSE, and OBN III's; got a bunch of copies of the newest TERRIBLE FEELINGS 7", along with some other new singles from BOOM BOOM KID, POISON PLANET, MY RIFLE, MIND AS PRISON, FUCK DETECTOR, and DIVINE RIGHT.
There are some killer reissues, including a Double LP of the classic NEW BREED TAPE COMPILATION, a POISON IDEA early demos/outtakes collection, and bunch of new reissues from SING SING (PUMPHOUSE GANG, JET STAXX, DWARF) and LAST LAUGH (CRITICAL MASS, THE EMBARRASSMENT), and a repress of the 90's QUEERS classic GROW UP.
I picked up a bunch of titles from SUB POP, including the brand new DUM DUM GIRLS LP along with their other two 12"s (all of these are highly recommended), some MUDHONEY and SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE LPs, and the classic DWARVES "BLOOD GUTS AND PUSSY" LP; I finally stocked up on all of the PAUL COLLINS BEAT LPs from GET HIP, and grabbed a few more older SPITS titles as well ... plus a couple older ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT and OBLIVIANS titles that had been unavailable for a while on vinyl. I also grabbed the newest MAGIC BULLET releases including the second CHARLES MANSON LP in the ATWA series, a repress of the MAJORITY RULE / PG 99 split LP, and the SSORC LP/7". For all of you 60's garage/surf enthusiasts, have no fear ... I picked up a bunch of awesome comps including several volumes of CRYPT's "BACK FROM THE GRAVE" series, NORTONS "UNISSUED 60's GARAGE ACETATES" series, a couple of rad surf comps, and several volumes of the PEBBLES comps.
Finally, some new zines (new issues of JERK STORE, PERRO MALDITO, and MAXIMUMROCKNROLL), and a handful of new tapes including the BIRTH DEFORMITIES and VIOLENT REACTION demos, and some rad european collection tapes from STRAIGHTJACKET NATION and DESKONOCIDOS. NEW RECORDS FOR 11/25/11:
SHITTY LIMITS, THE "SPECULATE/ACCUMULATE" LP (SORRY STATE)
After one of the most impeccable runs of vinyl in modern punk, this 12" EP sadly marks the Shitty Limits' swan song. It's been a long road from Limits Appear to here, but if, like me, you have thought every Shitty Limits record was better than the last then you'll be wild about this 12". While there are still spastic hardcore bangers like "Survey Says," the quirky, Fall-esque influences apparent on the last few releases come to the fore with songs like "Medication Time" and "Future Mantra." I'm still crushed that this band decided to call it quits, but at least Speculate/Accumulate assures that I'll have a great soundtrack when I cry myself to sleep each night. Limited to 300 copies.
UX VILEHEADS "HARDCORE XI" LP (SORRY STATE)
After two killer 7" EPs, Umeå, Sweden's UX Vileheads unleash their debut LP. While the Vileheads have always played a killer mix of straight up 80s USHC and UK82 punk, the latter element is even more conspicuous on this material, making it the band's catchiest to date. No other current band so effectively combines the gritty energy of Minor Threat and early Black Flag with the fist-pumping singalongs of the UK Subs. Those who are familiar with the band and its members no doubt have high expectations, and Hardcore XI summarily exceeds them. Quite simply, this is a perfect hardcore LP.
INSERVIBLES "S/T" LP (SHOGUN)
Coming from Mexico, a country where street executions and drug Lords are at war with everybody, INSERVIBLES can be described as the soundtrack of the Mexican nightmare. Their deranged hybrid of negative Hardcore with no-fi garage as been compared to NERORGASMO, RAW POWER, VOID or THE REATARDS. The 13 tracks contained in this LP may bring to mind some of those bands but there is something else behind all those layers of filth they call music. Acid lyrics with a macabre sense of humour, laughing as a statement against the world and a continuous vile-spit on the face of formal folklore. All housed in a tasteless jacket designed Yecatl Peńa.
V/A "NEW BREED TAPE COMPILATION" 2xLP (WARDANCE)
Re-issue of this legendary NYHC compilation from 1989. The re-mastered LP version features four exclusive bonus tracks plus the original twenty page lyric booklet. There will be an alternate limited edition that will include a silk-screened "Wild Style" LP cover (200 made) available to the first 200 mail orders. Bands on the compilation: ABSOLUTION, OUTBURST, LIFE'S BLOOD, BREAKDOWN, BEYOND, RAW DEAL plus 15 other rocking NYHC bands from that golden era. (the OUTBURST tracks are worth the price of admission alone)
POISON IDEA "DARBY CRASH RIDES AGAIN" LP (TKO)
This month, TKO Records kicks off the much anticipated POISON IDEA “Kings Of Punk” reissue series with “Darby Crash Rides Again: The Early Years.” This LP collects twenty-nine tracks from the band’s earliest days. Included are the 100% previously unreleased “Boner’s Kitchen” demo from 1981, the complete “Darby Crash Rides Again” demo from 1982, the complete uncut live-on-the-air set from the 1983 KBOO radio benefit, and lastly, outtakes from the “Record Collectors Are Pretentious Assholes” recording session. Much of this material is appearing on vinyl for the first time. All the recordings have been meticulously restored by Enormous Door Mastering for this release. This LP comes in a gatefold jacket and printed inner sleeve that is jam packed with old flyers, liner notes and tons of previously unpublished photos from the band’s beginnings. All copies include a download coupon. Really, this LP is a complete no-brainer for POISON IDEA fans or any fan of the early days of American Hardcore Punk.
BROWN SUGAR "SINGS OF BIRDS AND RACISM" LP (FEEBLE MINDS)
New York's Brown Sugar have been kicking around for several years, but they're just now getting around to recording their debut full-length. In my opinion, it was more than worth the wait. This is exactly the kind of diverse, ambitious, and fully-realized full-length that we have come to expect from the very best bands from upstate NY, including Shoppers, Rational Animals, and Insubordinates. Like all of those bands, Brown Sugar definitely have their own unique sound... the core is chunky, mid-paced punk... not as dirge-y as Rational Animals, but rarely reaching true hardcore tempos either. Songwriting-wise, this reminds me a little bit of the early Fucked Up singles, but Brown Sugar incorporate a lot more... there's saxophone, some weird dissonant passages, and other little surprises scattered all throughout this record. It's not just an "everything and the kitchen sink" type of record, though... like the Insubordinates LP, every move seems well thought-out and seems to flow logically from the next. Upstate NY is quickly establishing itself as one of the most exciting scenes in the country, and with this LP Brown Sugar have created one of the most exciting documents from that scene. Highly recommended.
STEVE ADAMYK BAND "FOREVER WON'T WAIT" LP (DIRTNAP)
The Steve Adamyk Band are a bunch of obnoxious, rowdy, "kids" from Ottawa, Ontario. While the name would automatically draw comparison to a blues, jazz or rock band given the layout, make no mistake; the Steve Adamyk Band are a punk band. The SAB play trash-pop inspired by seventies punk, the skinny tie bands of the eighties and nineties garage rock. From the ashes of Million Dollar Marxists (Gearhead Records) and Sedatives (Deranged Records), the group was born out of necessity - a whack load of orphan songs with no band to call home. Frustrated playing in bands the would eventually call it quits, Adamyk formed a band that could have an endless timeline, even if the name is outside of the standard band name zone. Releasing two European singles before their first live performance, the SAB would go on to unload 4 seven inch singles and an LP in 2010. The self-titled LP in question sold out its initial pressing in three months and received rave reviews, including being hailed as Ben Weasel's favourite album of 2010. The following year, the SAB toured Europe, performed at SXSW and recorded their sophomore LP "Forever Won't Wait" to be unleashed by Portland, OR's Dirtnap Records closing in on the end of the year. More touring and releases are currently in the works for 2012, as it doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
SCREECHING WEASEL "CARNIVAL OF SCHADENFREUDE" LP (RECESS)
"The new Screeching Weasel EP will remind all who listen why Ben is still among the pantheon of pop-punk geniuses. The title of the EP is wonderfully fitting, Schadenfreude of course a reference to a German term celebrating the misery of others, but the music within is among the freshest and sharpest SW has produced in some time. The opening salvo of the title track and the scathing “Fox News” are quick hits of infectious, speedy, sing along punk tinged with biting sarcasm. With references ranging from people believing he is unemployed to the always accessible punching bag that is Sarah Palin, these tracks, both failing to even approach two minutes, are quick jabs to the gut that announce that SW are back, Ben is fired up, and the people who so gleefully buried him now must realize that this band is not going anywhere! The following trio of “Muscle Mary” (whose opening riff is a nice nod to “I Just Wanna Have Something to Do”), “Queen Kong” and “Parasite Murders” are impossible to dislike, as Ben again proves that while legions of bands attempt to be funny, snarky, and still punk, it is a rare talent that can combine all three traits into truly great songs. The closing “No Reason to Lie” and “Under the Bus” are slightly less ferocious musically than the other works, but each is dripping with acerbic wit, particularly the mid-tempo “Bus”, a song that makes a fitting conclusion here when one reflects upon what so-called fans and even former band members said about Mr. Weasel last spring. For those who appreciate Screeching Weasel, this EP is just another illustration of how significant and fun this band is, and yes, it’s ok to have fun, kids." - Rich Quinlan / JERSEY BEAT
BANNER PILOT "HEART BEATS PACIFIC" LP (FAT)
Described as the perfect ambassadors of Midwest punk, BANNER PILOT reinforced that role with the success of their Fat Wreck Chords debut Collapser (elected to the Punknews.org “2009 Best of” list). A perfect amalgam of their immediate influences (Dillinger Four, The Lawrence Arms, Alkaline Trio, Jawbreaker), BANNER PILOT continue to represent the genre through the impeccably crafted, gritty pop-punk songs on their latest release Heart Beats Pacific. These poetic punks turn a phrase like nobody’s business, spinning relatable situations and emotions into clever prose delivered through gruff vocals. Each of the 11 tracks on Heart Beats Pacific is a stand-alone, bona fide hit and collectively they make up a rare flawless listening experience. The band characterizes Heart Beats Pacific as “Collapser on steroids” and when asked to further expound upon that notion had this to say: “Whenever a band starts a new album, they have a choice to take a step backwards.... Or take a step forwards. We chose to take a step backwards. That gave us more room to jump two steps forward. What does that mean? Better songs, but still in the same vein as before. A few new things that make the album less straight-forward, but not in a weird way. Thicker guitars, and an overall better sound. We even cracked out a grand piano for a four-count-em-four note piano part. New things, but we don’t abandon or ignore our old sound.” Essentially Heart Beats Pacific is an escalation of BANNER PILOT’s ever expanding acclaim and will be received as such by fans and critics alike.
SAMIAM "TRIPS" LP (HOPELESS)
"Trips could not be a more appropriate album title for Berkley punk act Samiam‘s eighth studio album in just over two decades. Especially considering how far they have journeyed from their original lineup and sound in that time. Like all adventures, there have been highs (94′s Clumsy and 00′s Astray) and undeniable lows (2006′s Whatever’s Got You Down), and, ultimately, there has to be a finish. While Trips hasn’t been declared a last album, its airtight production, catchy hooks, and poppy sheen provide the definite end to any chance of bringing back the grit, and arguably the heart, of Samiam’s early work. That being said, Trips is an enjoyable, and surprisingly melodic, listen. The opening track “80 West” sets the stage for the rest of Trips: pounding drums, soaring choruses, and, for the most part, optimistic lyrics. It’s party punk, better fit for debauchery than angst and introspection. Samiam do it well, though, continuing on with “Clean Up the Mess”, where harmonized vocals and lines such as “This is gonna be a better year for me/may not believe it, but it’s true” force smiles and ferociously tapping toes. For better and worse, Trips is not all formulaic, two-minute dance songs, as the near-ballad “El Dorado” showcases through its extensive, narrative lyrics. Its toned down nature and longing cries of soaring “ohs” demonstrate a side of Samiam that may be worth pursuing further. Other breaks from the party, such as lethargic closer “Happy for You”, are not nearly as successful, but they at least thwart monotony. Although vocalist Jason Beebout’s performance is dynamic and impressive throughout, Chris Dugan (producer for Green Day and Iggy Pop) ends up being the true star of Trips. Replacing fuzz and inconsistency with intricately pieced together pop-punk, Dugan and Samiam have created a solid comeback, breathing new, emphatic life into an old name." -http://consequenceofsound.net

Originally released in 1990, here's the first album ever from THE QUEERS. A perfect combination of surfy pop, RAMONES-style punk rock, and lyrics about girls, girls, and Burger King. Completely remixed and remastered, it's time to abuse yourself with the classic slab that put the Queers in orbit!
DUM DUM GIRLS "ONLY IN DREAMS" LP (SUB POP)
On several levels, Dum Dum Girls’ second full-length Only in Dreams is a great leap forward for a gifted songwriter and an equally gifted band—it’s heavy, deeply personal stuff and surely unprecedented for this style of music. “The first record was basically the first songs I’d ever written,” says band-leader Dee Dee, “and I was thinking nostalgically about being a teenager. This record, it was pretty much impossible not to write about very recent, very real things.” Only in Dreams more than fulfills the promise of 2011’s acclaimed and fast-selling He Gets Me High EP. It retains Dum Dum Girls’ signature blend of the girl-gang eyeliner punk of the Shangri-Las, the trashy propulsion of the Cramps, and the moody atmospherics of Mazzy Star, but for the first time, all four Dum Dum Girls play and sing on the album. Now the harmonies have more depth, Jules plays her own distinctive guitar leads, and the Bambi (bass)/Sandy (drums) rhythm section powers the music like a vintage V-8 engine. DUM DUM GIRLS "HE GETS ME HIGH" 12" (SUB POP)
Los Angeles-based Dum Dum Girls follow up their fuzzy,girl group-inspired 2010 Sub Pop debut I Will Be with He Gets Me High, an EP composed of three originals and a cover of the swooning Smiths’ classic “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out.” Lead singer/songwriter Dee Dee, Richard Gottehrer (who also worked on I Will Be and is best known for penning “My Boyfriend’s Back” and “I Want Candy”), and Sune Rose Wagner of the Raveonettes produced the EP.
DUM DUM GIRLS "I WILL BE" LP (SUB POP)
I Will Be is the debut full-length by the Dum Dum Girls. Produced by Dee Dee and Richard Gottehrer (Strangeloves, Voidoids, Blondie, The Go-Gos and, more recently, The Raveonettes), I Will Be is neither lo-fi nor too polished. Just under thirty minutes with eleven songs, it’s a short tribute to love, fun and the classic pop form of the ’60s girl groups and early punk rockers.
GIRLS AT DAWN "CALL THE DOCTOR" LP (NORTON)
"Following a couple of excellent singles, this is the first full-length from Brooklyn’s Girls At Dawn, although 10 of its 12 tracks don’t make it past 2 minutes and their “epic” closing song lasts all of 2 minutes 36 seconds! It’s lo-fi DIY pop, their minimal production making it sound as if they’re in the room with you, but that simplicity also works brilliantly in focusing the attention on the skewed melodies and rich harmonies of the band. They’re influenced by girl-groups and 60s garage-rock, but the skittery post-punk rhythms also remind you of the more subversive pop history of bands like Dolly Mixture and the Modettes, especially on the spooky ‘I’m Alone’. The finest tracks are ‘Evil One’, sounding very 60s pop-psych with its echoey effects and harmonies, and the infectious ‘They’re Waiting’, which keeps the echo and adds girl-group call-and-response vocals. It might be just three people playing and producing scratchy 60s-saturated pop but there’s a sinewy toughness to this band and these songs that makes this record as good as anything emerging from Brooklyn right now."
OBN III'S "THE ONE AND ONLY" LP (TIC TAC TOTALLY)
New entry for the top-shelf, mid-tempo “City Slang”-vibed bangers contains zero frills and marries it down to a Stooges swagger. This debut long-player is as tight as it is unhinged. The double-deep-fried guitars and solo riffage render tunes of a hooky, hard rock sheen. Effectively transplanted from the S/T EP without a doubt. But OBNs use the stretching room an LP affords to also flirt with a Sabbath-like weight in their sound, add even further snotty attacks, and lay out ridiculously deliberate, locked-in grooves to serve on (Graham Low and Matt Hammer function as an incredible rhythm section). Of course the “Texas-tinged IVY GREEN” tag remains 100% applicable, but I’d also go for “VAMPS-meets-STOOGES” comparison here even more (101% I guess??). Matter of fact, the fucking Vamps are another Texas five-piece with a blonde guitarist too. Wha…tha…fuuuuck? 20-year time warp? Reincarnation?! All the killer riffs on this album just set it off for “front, man” Orville Neeley, whose howling episodes take over the tracks like a “front, man” should. Highlights on this thing include E-VER-Y-THING. No jokes, no riddles, no ham sandwich. I don’t care if you ARE Barrack Obama. Recorded by Orville Bateman Neeley III in hot-as-fuck Austin, Texas. As if enough sweat wasn’t baked into these tapes already. LP includes a free download and is pressed on heavyweight wax housed in a nice inner/outer sleeve deal. Get on board with this shit, and grab the singles on TTT and Super Secret Records if you ain’t dun diddit yet.
PUMPHOUSE GANG "S/T" LP (SING SING)
Formed from the ashes of a mid-70's rock band called Horse, the founding members of Pumphouse Gang - Ricky Wreckage (vocals), Ralph Von Wau Wau (bass), SG Coolbridge (guitar) and Dread 'Family Man' Jones (drums) were active on the fringes of the UK punk scene as early as late 1976. The band made regular trips from their base in Ryde on the Isle Of Wight to play London's live circuit at venues like The Marquee, The Speakeasy and The Nashville, and on the same bill as acts like Generation X, Fabulous Poodles, The Lurkers and The Only Ones. This album features the best of Pumphouse Gang's material for Splash Records, including eight tracks never previously released on vinyl. Lost classics like 'When We Were Young', 'Black And White' and 'Teenage Lament' together with those now highly collectable Splash singles only emphasise how wrong the record buying public were to ignore the band back then. Perhaps this LP will go some way to righting that wrong. - James Denholm (Worthless Trash)
SONICS, THE "SAVAGE YOUG SONICS" LP (NORTON)
Long before they delivered the full blown crunch of The Witch and Psycho, the Sonics were cutting their teeth in Tacoma teen clubs! These crude 1961-64 sides were taped live at dances and at home, showing the heavy influence of their primo idols the Wailers and includes the ultra primitive A-Rab, the group's very first recording - raw!! These tapes were recently found in a Tacoma attic. This is their first appearance ever! Liner notes by Sonics founder/guitarist Larry Parypa!
MOTORHEAD "ACE OF SPADES" LP (MERCURY)
"With the 1980 release of Ace of Spades, Motörhead had their anthem of anthems -- that is, the title track -- the one trademark song that would summarize everything that made this early incarnation of the band so legendary, a song that would be blasted by legions of metalheads for generations on end. It's a legendary song, for sure, all two minutes and 49 bracing seconds of it. And the album of the same name is legendary as well, among Motörhead's all-time best, often considered their single best, in fact, along with Overkill. Ace of Spades was Motörhead's third great album in a row, following the 1979 releases of Overkill and Bomber, respectively. Those two albums have a lot in common with Ace of Spaces. The classic lineup -- Lemmy (bass and vocals), "Fast" Eddie Clarke (guitar), and "Philthy Animal" Taylor (drums) -- is still in place and sounding as alive and crazed as ever. The album is still rock-solid, boasting several superlative standouts. Actually, besides the especially high number of standouts on Ace of Spades -- at least relative to Bomber, which wasn't quite as strong overall as Overkill had been -- the only key difference between this 1980 album and its two 1979 predecessors is the producer, in this case Vic Maile. The result of his work isn't all that different from that of Jimmy Miller, the longtime Rolling Stones producer who had worked on Overkill and Bomber, but it's enough to give Ace of Spades a feeling distinct from its two very similar-sounding predecessors. This singular sound (still loud and in your face, rest assured), along with the exceptionally strong songwriting and the legendary stature of the title track, makes Ace of Spades the ideal Motörhead album if one were to choose one and only one studio album. It's highly debatable whether Ace of Spades is tops over the breakthrough Overkill, as the latter is more landmark because of its earlier release, and is somewhat rougher around the edges, too. Either way, Ace of Spades rightly deserves its legacy as a classic. There's no debating that." - allmusic.com
DWARVES "BLOOD, GUTS, AND PUSSY" LP (SUB POP)
Universally recognized as the group's high-water mark, this is a roller coaster ride of bad taste that holds nothing sacred. If you like your punk fast, rude, raucous, drug induced, and dirty this still may be too much for you. Also recommended for fans of album art depicting nude women and midgets covered in blood.

MUDHONEY "SUPERFUZZ BIGMUFF" LP (SUB POP)
Mudhoney: Mark Arm, Steve Turner (guitar, vocals); Matt Lukin (bass); Dan Peters (drums). Recorded at Reciprocal Recording, Seattle, Washington. Rock & roll got a badly needed revitalizing overhaul with Seattle's grunge explosion of the late 1980's, and Mudhoney was there to make sure it got done right. Although nearly eclipsed by the success of such bands as Nirvana and Pearl Jam, Mudhoney was arguably the most important grunge band of all. Their "Touch Me I'm Sick" defined a generation of disenchanted middle-class malcontents bored stiff by the predictable mire that rock & roll had become. SUPERFUZZ BIG MUFF compiles the band's rare early singles in one convenient package. Twelve essential tracks here, and they all rock mightily. If you're old enough you'll want to say that you were there--if you know what you're talking about, folks might believe you. Do yourself a favor and familiarize yourself with the rock & roll revival that was Mudhoney.
SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE "LP2" 2xLP (SUB POP)
Originally formed in Seattle in 1992, Sunny Day Real Estate featured Nate Mendel (bass), William Goldsmith (drums), Dan Hoerner (guitar,vocals) and Jeremy Enigk (vocals, guitar). Following the completion of a US Tour to support Diary, the band’s debut album, the group headed back into the studio with Wood to record the follow-up. But during the recording sessions, internal tensions splintered Sunny Day Real Estate, resulting in a sudden break-up and the finished album being turned in to Sub Pop without a title or artwork. LP2 was released in November 1995, by which time both Goldsmith and Mendel had joined Foo Fighters and Enigk had begun a solo career. Sub Pop Records will re-issue both Diary and the band’s second full-length album, commonly known as LP2 (or “The Pink Album” for its entirely pink cover). Both re-mastered albums will include rare bonus tracks as well as newly written liner notes.
SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE "DIARY" 2xLP (SUB POP)
This is the 2009 reissue of Sunny Day Real Estate’s 1994 debut album Diary. This edition has been re-mastered and includes the bonus tracks “8” and “9,” as well as newly written liner notes. The LP reissue of Diary will be on two pieces of vinyl.

All Systems Go 2 is a 25-track collection culled from 13 different recording sessions over 8 years. Most of the tracks are making their digital debut, only having been released in the forms of limited vinyl runs or rare b-sides and compilations on labels such as Merge and Elemental. Two never-before-released songs are included. Many feel that RFTC's first collection of singles (All Systems Go) included many of the band's finest moments. All Systems Go 2 follows in this tradition of capturing every facet of RFTC's sound. From ghetto box no-fi recordings to ELO-inspired orchestrated punk, All Systems Go 2 is a 71-minute relentless rollercoaster of exciting and contrasting sounds. It should be noted that those still unconvinced of RFTC's greatness will probably have no change in opinion upon hearing this release.
OBLIVIANS "ROCK 'N ROLL HOLIDAY" LP (SYMPATHY FOR THE RECORD INDUSTRY)
"Through most of their existence, "subtle" was a word rarely used to describe the gloriously messed-up attack of Memphis roots punks the Oblivians, but they never sounded quite so frantic and hot-wired than they did on this live album, recorded during a feedback-laden 1994 show that found the band opening for like-minded maniacs the Woggles and the Mono Men. Briefly available in a pressing of 300 LPs in 1996 and now reissued on CD, Rock 'n Roll Holiday is one 45-minute, slightly hissy blast of cheap guitars pummeled into submission; drums beaten senseless; and hoarse bleatings about sex, violence, and various forms of anti-social behavior, punctuated by the enthusiastic cheers of the crowd, occasional pauses to right faulty equipment, and pleas for fans to purchase some of the group's many recordings. Which is to say, if you don't like your rock & roll in its raw, crude form, then you probably don't want to hear this. On the other hand, if the above description sounds like your idea of a good time, may I suggest putting this on your shopping list pronto. One sticking point: I know it's kinda dumb to single out bad taste on an album with tunes like "Plate in My Head," "And Then I Fucked Her," and " "Motorcycle Leather Boy," but three Lightnin' Hopkins and Slim Harpo fans really ought to know better than to call a song "Nigger Rich." Past that, if you're looking for the right kind of trash, the Oblivians serve it up hot and fresh on Rock 'n Roll Holiday, and you might want to pick it up before it disappears for a second time. "Ribbon of Gold is the finest Paul Collins release since the heyday of The Beat back in the late ‘70s/early ‘80s. Collins – who got his start playing in the semi-legendary Nerves with future Plimsouls frontman Peter Case and songwriter-to-the-stars Jack Lee back in the ‘70s – is a true rock and roll soldier, slogging it out in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City and Spain over the course of his fruitful career. It’s with three of his musical compadres from Spain that he recorded this record – in Sweden, naturally. While most of Collins’ releases from the late ‘80s through the early part of this decade eschewed straight-up power pop in favor a of a more relaxed, countrified atmosphere, Ribbon of Gold finds Collins going back to what he does best – writing and performing memorable, energetic rock and roll. SPIDER BABIES "UNDRESSED TO KILL" LP (BLACK LUNG)
"These Oregon misfits are about as unintellectual, uncaring and downright offensive as they come. Combining a bit of trash-rock, a la The Cramps, along with the glaring ugliness of early Dwarves material and the bottom o' the barrel, lowbrow wit of The Mentors, The Spider Babies take jabs at the most inappropriate of subjects. Straight up, the garage-sounding tune "Girl to Abuse" is simply tasteless -- just the way I like it. "Gimme Some Drugs" boorishly asks you to "Give me some cocaine/Give me some meth/I want the smell of freebase/on my breath" as shoddy, overdriven guitars sweep up the mess. This sloppy three-chord wonder will inexplicably have you singing along -- to your neighbors' dismay. And to top everything off, "Rock 'N' Roll Fag-Bash" thoughtlessly puts punk-rock homophobia back into the limelight. Love it or hate it, The Spider Babies show no shame and put the balls back onto a seemingly castrated punk rock entity."

After some months of different delays for various resons, the record is here and looks and sounds great. 525 copies in black wax of crazy garage-ish hardcore punk madness, noisy stuff from these teenagers over their 30's. Think of a mix of KBD stuff, early 80's USHC and some weird psychedelic 70's rock. Fast songs, noisy guitars, primitive drumming, punk punk punk!
CONCENTRATION SUMMER CAMPS/WINTER STORM "SPLIT" LP (STOMP)
Split 12" from these two Spanish bands. CSC had a previous record on Discos Humeantes that was some pretty ripping garagey hardcore, but they sound utterly different on this release. The label describes them as "the Necros meets 13th Floor Elevators," and that doesn't make a bit of fucking sense. However, if I were to try and describe this band I would probably name an equally bizarre combination of bands... this is just some really unique stuff. It's raw and driving like hardcore, but like hardcore made by mental patients. So fucking weird. As for Winter Storm, their name and logo indicated that they're probably going for kind of a black metal thing, but this is much more GISM-inspired. Classic, Motorhead-style riffs delivered through a weird as fuck guitar sound and growled vocals that are a dead ringer for Sakevi. If you like new GISM-inspired stuff like Syphilitic Vaginas and Parasite these guy will be one of your new favorite bands... few bands are doing this so authentically.

SSORC “INFIDEL ETERNAL" LP w/ 7" (MAGIC BULLET)
Previously only available on compact disc format in Japan (Obliteration Records, 2005), Infidel Eternal is the debut album from Tokyo’s SSORC. Drawing heavily from Scandinavian black metal influences (GORGOROTH, DARKTHRONE, et al) and infusing the crazed, violating ethics of 80′s Japanese hardcore, SSORC blast through traditional themes of nature, anti-organized religion, agony, woe, and despair at an unrelenting pace that never truly relinquishes attack. Accordingly, the band is actually comprised of former members of legendary extreme Japanese hardcore band G.I.S.M. as well os other noted acts such as MAGANE, ZOMBIE RITUAL, MÏSOGI, and MORTES SALTANTES. With SSORC, their collective goal is quite simply “to terrify people, or to give people fear.” Mantras and themes of “Black Metal Terrorism” appear throughout both the album and the band’s limited public profile. The guitar tones are cruel and menacing, the bass is distorted and sick, Mutilation Under the Moonlight’s vocals howl with a pain seldom put to tape, and the drums blast forth as if they legitimately want to kill you. This is truly Japanese extreme black metal. "Like many garage-philes have stated, this is the next logical step in the history of garage rock, right after the enormously influential "Nuggets" and "Pebbles" compilations. Unlike some other comps of the sort, Crypt is only interested in bringing out the best of 60s garage rock 'n' roll. This is a perfect testament to why some people considor this to be the original punk rock. I wouldn't go that far, but it certainly influenced it a good deal. While some songs on this album are better than others, there are no really unbearable tracks. "Surfside Date", the cover of "Psycho", and especially "Sticks and Stones" show why this music was so appealing to the teens of the day. "

Crypt Records' Back From the Grave 3 features more underground '60s garage rock from the Tigermen, the Hush Puppies, the Golden Catalinas, the Jesters of Newport, and others. This volume of the series has a slightly poppier, more romantic tone, as songs like the Worlocks' "I Love You," the Beau Jens' "She Was Mine," and the Shames' "Special One" demonstrate. However, the Syndicate's "Egyptian Thing" and the Treytones' "Nonymous" provide enough proto-punk edge to make the third volume of the Back From the Grave series an eclectic, worthwhile collection.

The sound is ambient, but man-oh-man, some of these tracks are amazing, especially the Spiedels. "

"The opening salvo in this wacky series features 20 tracks with one side as a "bird side," the other a "turd side," giving some indication of the tonal mayhem awaiting the listener. The bird side collects "Surfin' Bird" and "Pa Pa Ooh Mow Mow"-related tunes with Bobby Lee Trammell's nutty "Toolie Froolie," the Trashmen's fuzz-raver follow-up "Bird '65," the Del-Tinos' "Pa Pa Ooh Mau Mau" and Gregory Dee and the Avanties' "Olds Mo William" being particular standouts. The turd side features King Uszniewicz's "Surfin' School," Freddy and the Ravens' title track, Arch Hall, Jr.'s "Konga Joe" and the vocals-and-drum-set-only rendition by Trez Trezo of "Rock Around the Clock," a must-hear-this entry."

The 11th installment of this series doesn't so much present traditional, raw, '60s garage music as it does various hues of woman-sung '60s rock. That's not a bad thing; in fact, it probably ensures a certain amount of diversity, and a willingness to stretch into poppier territory than the average '60s garage comp does. Geographically, it sure covers a lot of space, with entries not only from the continental United States, but also Australia, Holland, Puerto Rico, France, Britain, and Quebec.

Apparently there are 5 different unreleased versions of that sick little Invictas track 'Watusi', but having a hard time imagining any of 'em could top this one. V/A - "PEBBLES VOL. 1" LP (BFD)
The series that set the ball rolling back in the late 70's. Regardless of his later activities (which included ripping off hopeful young musicians) Greg Shaw deserves a lot of credit for his groundbreaking job to bring attention to local 60's records at a time when the music industry was on its knees in front of David Bowie and Elton John. Along with Lester Bangs and Lenny Kaye Shaw more or less created the concept of 60s punk, first via Bomp Magazine and then through the Pebbles, whose early volumes must've sold tens of thousands of copies by now. The original release of vol 1 (circa 1977) has a different sleeve and liners to the well-known reissue available today. No need to describe the music except to say that while side 1 has some of the greatest 45s ever made, a couple of choices on side 2 seem a bit questionable. As you may know, some tracks are pitched (most notably the Squires).
V/A - "PEBBLES VOL. 5" LP (BFD)
"From the opening rocker "No Good Woman" by The Tree, PEBBLES VOL. 5 (subtitled "Various Morons") is a vast improvement on previous volumes by reissuing 20 songs which don't have a dud among them. It's hard to choose favorites, as each song has something cool going for it, but The Five Canadians' "Writing on the Wall", The Dirty Wurds' "Why", The Magi's "You Don't Know Me", The Merry Dragons' "Universal Vagrant", The Plague's "Go Away", Fe Fi Four Plus 2's "I Wanna Come Back", The Escapades' "I Tell No Lies", The Time Stoppers' "I Need Love", 12 A.M.'s "The Way I Feel", and Shag's "Stop and Listen". Some moments which may be seen as weak by discriminating ears would be Little Phil and the Nightshadows' "The Way It Used to Be", The State of Mind's "Move", and The Satyrs' anti-war song "Yesterday's Hero", but I still loved all three. Run, don't walk, to pick up this garage band classic compilation! Every single song is superb hard-rockin' 60s perfection, with plenty of snarling male vocals, frenzied keyboards, spastic drumming, and wicked guitar and bass work."

V/A "HIGHS IN THE MID SIXTIES VOL. 2: LA '66" LP (AIP)
A companion to the PEBBLES series. The Highs in the Mid-Sixties series is a group of 23 compilation albums of garage rock and psychedelic rock recordings that were issued by AIP Records in the mid-1980s. This series is a companion to the Pebbles series of similar music; the title is technically preceded by "Pebbles Presents:". The title sounds like it might have come from a weather report, although "Highs" intends to mean "the best" (and is also an apparent drug reference), while the recordings on these albums were originally released in the mid-1960s. L.A. '66 - Bees, Sandals, Chymes, etc A regional look at US '60s garage music. AIP’s second volume in the Highs series continues their exploration of the mid-60s Los Angeles garage rock scene, heavily influenced by the happenings on the Sunset Strip (including both the riots and the folk-rock sounds of The Byrds). The one-two of “Tell Us Dylan” and “He’s Not There Anymore” are among my favorite garage-pop songs from throughout the entirety of the Pebbles/Highs universe. The Tangents take on “Hey Joe” is a worthy competitor to the Leaves’ hit, the W.C. Fields Memorial Electric String Band’s version of “Stepping Stone” adds a nice helping of garage distortion to the (later) Monkees classic, and the ferocious organ-driven “Back Seat ’38 Dodge” isn’t your father’s hot rod song.
TERRIBLE FEELINGS "BLANK HEADS" 7" (ERSTE THENK TONTRAGER)
TERRIBLE FEELINGS are four twenty-somethings from Sweden: Manuela sings, Anton plays guitar and sings, Willy plays bass and Andy plays drums. Together they play absolutely fantastic black angst-ridden power-pop and this is their 3rd - EP ( The 4 - songs from the demo in a "new outfit" aka new recorded and mixed etc. ! ) Members of the TERRIBLE FEELINGS play/have played in various other bands and projects, some very cool, some not even good. The hometown of the TERRIBLE FEELINGS is Malmö, a world-famous city for cool Punkrock- and Hardcore-bands like FY FAN, SKITKIDS, HERÄTYS, HÅRDA TIDER, SISTA SEKUNDEN (Andy plays the guitar), DIPPER and SLÖA KNIVAR. The band TERRIBLE FEELINGS formed in the fall of 2009, and their basic impetus was to do something that was thoroughly thought through and set them apart from other punk bands in their town. The band once described their sound as »sorta DISCHARGE meets LOST SOUNDS mixed with surf-guitars and 80ies Swedish punkrock. Or something. It's very melodic.« Rob Seaton from Canada voted them »AMAZING!!!« when his band STATUES shared stage with them in Malmö. Guess what. .. he’s right!
DIVINE RIGHT "PRAY FOR ME" 7" (RESIDUE)
Debut 7" from this new Chicago band featuring Steven from Loser Life / Human Mess on drums. This is some straight up, tear-ass early 80s-style hardcore with a catchy edge to it. It's mean as shit a la Negative Approach, but every song has this real solid groove that makes me want to mosh my ass off. Definitely one of the standout new hardcore bands I've heard... you can always trust Residue Records, and this 7" upholds their proud tradition.
BOOM BOOM KID "BBK" 7" (HYSTERIA)
Latest release from legendary Argentine punk figure BOOM BOOM KID. You can hear his previous band FUN PEOPLE's hardcore punk influence tinged with a power-pop sensibility. Vocals ranging from growls to wails weave through surf punk guitars, punching through frenzied melodies that stick in your head. This release is coming out in support for his unmissable US tour, those who have seen his unapologetically fun and frenetic shows already know what to expect.
POISON PLANET "OBLIVIOUS" 7" (THIRD PARTY)
For those that don't know, this 7" was originally released along side Punx Don't Drink in 2009. But the 1st press was only 100 copies due to an error at the pressing plant, thankfully it's available once more! Coming out of Chicago, IL, Poison Planet play five songs of fast, politically pissed off vegan straight edge hardcore that musically nods to bands like The Repos, 86 Mentality and Violent Minds.
JET STAXX "I'M GONNA BE THE BEST GUY" 7" (SING SING)
In the early 70's Mike Butcher worked as a studio technician at Morgan Studios in London. On relocating to Belgium a few years later to work at Morgan's other studio in Brussels he hooked up with co-worker Alan Ward (Elton Motello) to record two singles under the band names Feather and Rollerball as well as co-writing and playing guitar on most of Elton Motello's two albums. Mike Butcher also recorded two solo singles as Jet Staxx, the first 'I'm Gonna Be The Best Guy' / 'You'll Get The Chop' was released in Belgium (Topkapi 2103 131), Germany (Bellaphon BF 18594) and Holland (Scramble SRS 510.061) in the spring of 1978. In the studio, Butcher (vocals/guitar) was assisted by drummer Pascal Van Het Groenewoud and someone known as Randy Sod on bass, though it's likely Butcher played bass himself. DWARF "GOTTA GET LOUDER" 7" (SING SING)
Once in a while a single gets plucked out of obscurity which is a total revelation and becomes an obsession to track down, but rarely does this same single get played over and over and you know it has the staying power to remain a firm favourite forever. I am very glad to say that this single is one of these rare beasts. It is everything you could ever wish for and absolutely ticks ALL the right boxes. How to put a tag on 'Gotta Get Loude'r? It sits somewhere between Proto-Punk, Bubblegum/Hard Rock and Powerpop. It's insanely catchy and an instant exuberant classic. What makes this even more amazing is that most of the band were 15 at the time!'I Won't Be Back' is stupendous in its snotty Teenage Punk attitude. I was thinking of The Runaways as I believed a girl singer was involved, but this is not the case as explained by Nick Piunti "that would be me, make that pre-pubescent me..." The guitars clang and crash, the drums are full power with added momentum of a glorious cowbell nailing everything down to the beat. So put both tracks together and you end up with the best coupling since Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton! - Robin Wills (PurePop) **The original release was issued without artwork. The reissue comes housed in a Sing Sing Records company sleeve.
CRITICAL MASS "SILVER SCREEN" 7" (LAST LAUGH)
They couldn't help that they were from Florida and God help you if you sleep on this reissue of the Sunshine State's first punk band! Miami, Florida's Critical Mass rose out of the primordial ooze left in the snail-trail of the Sex Pistols' ill-fated southern U.S. tour with both sides showing dangerous levels of infection with Johnny Rotten inflection and Johnny Thunders-style guitar a year before The Eat ever recorded. A must-have, caricatured punk classic with only 200 copies originally pressed and no picture sleeve ever issued. If you don?t buy ten copies of the legit and band-sanctioned Critical Mass reissue on Last Laugh Records, there will truly be no one left to blame, but yourself!
EMBARRASSMENT, THE "SEX DRIVE/PATIO SET" 7" (LAST LAUGH)
Obtuse. Agitated. Art Punk. Neurotic. Gnarly. Gangly. Awkward. Nervous. Punk/Art/Pop. Fractured. It's amazing how many dumb adjectives can be written about a band when people futilely attempt to describe something they can't fully grasp. The Embarrassment formed in Wichita, Kansas in 1978 and along with a handful of other Midwestern bands, started to write and perform music which sounded nothing like what had come before them.

BOMBORAS "FORBIDDEN PLANET" 7" (DIONYSUS)
Before the release of their "Savage Island" album, The Bomboras released this three-track EP on Dionysus. The record has their signature sound; plenty' of reverb, farfisa organ and the band's very own edgy approach to instrumental/surf music in very organic/analog sound. The cover was drawn and designed by Shag (as were all the rest of the Bomboras releases) a few years before his worldwide fame.
MUMMIES, THE "YOU MUST FIGHT IN THE PLANET OF THE APES" 7" (SYMPATHY)
Classic 90s garage, you know the name. this is a three song EP of theirs from 1993. Originally hailing from San Mateo, California, the band was formed by Trent Ruane (organ, vocals), Maz Kattuah (bass), Larry Winther (guitar) and Russell Quan (drums).[1] They became a key part of San Francisco's burgeoning garage punk scene, along with The Phantom Surfers. With influences of surf rock, 1950s and 1960s garage rock bands such as The Sonics and more contemporary garage punk bands like Thee Mighty Caesars the Mummies eschewed the contemporary rock music of their time.
BIRTH DEFORMITIES "DEMO" TAPE
Birth Deformities is a new band from Chicago, consisting of members of Culo with Nick (Cowabunga Records CEO) on vocals. Taking influence from early 80's NY/NJ bands, similar to the approach of Omegas and Culo (obviously). This is probably one of my favorite demos of 2011, and I'm stoked to get to re-press these. Fans of cult hardcore shit like Chronic Sick and Fatal Rage will dig it, uptight PC idiots will hate it.
VIOLENT REACTION "DEMO 2011" TAPE (MIND ROT)
This is the USA version of the Violent Reaction Demo tape, the one man edge band created by Liverpool's own Tom Pimlott who fronted Nowhere Fast and played in a slew of other notable UK bands. Violent Reaction plays no nonsense hardcore influenced by Out Cold, Negative Approach & Last Rights to name a few. If any of the mentioned bands are something you're into then you NEED to pick this up.
DESKONOCIDOS "SINGLES" TAPE (BLINDED)

PERRO MALDITO - ISSUE #7 ZINE
Latest issue of this killer English-language zine from Italy. The centerpiece here is an interview with the GREAT Italian hardcore band (or project, really) Fogna, but you also get interviews with Detonate Records, Shortlived, and Reckless Aggression. This one is all music all the time... a solid read.
SUDDEN IMPACT "NO REST FROM THE WICKED" CD (MARQUEE)
Sudden Impact was one of the best 80´s Crossover Thrash Metal bands around. GOBBLINZ "S/T" CD (NAT)
Formed in 1975 in Peterborough UK GOBBLINZ were STEVE DUNMORE (drums), IAN GRAHAM (guitar, vocals), DAVE COLTON (bass), and CHRIS ALLEN (keys, vocals). All had spent several years playing clubs and pubs in a previous band but with Ian’s songwriting they decided to change direction and went into Beck Studios Wellingborough in 1976 to recorded a demo. The band soon got signed by Pinnacle and their first release “London” sold well. However after a split with their management the band recorded the Communique EP which is now one of the most sought after 7-inch new wave releases. Ian left the band in late 1978 to form THE NAME who became well known on the UK Mod scene, Dave joining a few months later. Includes the tracks from both of the band’s singles, along with eight unreleased gems. Packaged with a 20-page booklet with photos, lyrics, etc. Imported from Japan.

THE RAMONES had always been a SCREECHING WEASEL influence, but THE RIVERDALES took it to the next level. Just look at Ben Weasel's hair for goodness sake.
CYCOTIC YOUTH "S/T" CD (PUNK RECORDS)
Cycotic Youth CD contains all 3 of there Demos 1985 , 1986 , 1987 . The 1987 has 2 of the 3 founding members of cryptic slaughter in the band. The 1986 demo personally I think is one of the best hardcore demos of the 1980s . Sadly the band was never able to make an album when they were still active, after 25 years this is there debut Release. Strongly influenced by the 1st Suicidal Album & Neighborhood Watch in music style. This is true Classic Venice Hardcore Punk Rock at its best, Ripping Hardcore; they are actually from the Santa Monica Suicidal Punks Vinyl is to follow later in the year.
