Oh man, as promised, things have gotten as BUSY as can be over here at GMHQ!!! Where do I even begin? Let's Just go Alphabetically (sorta) !!! First off, we've finally announced that the new BIG EYES full length, "Almost Famous," will see the light of day in May! We've got a brand new track, "Being Unkind," from the LP streaming over at Pitchfork.com, so check it out! In a couple of days BIG EYES will embark on a West Coast tour with CRIMINAL CODE (Deranged Records), so check em out if they play your town! Tour Dates are below!

NIGHT BIRDS are streaming the title track to their upcoming Fat Wreck single, "Maimed for the Masses," over at Brooklyn Vegan!  Fat Wreck has also announced a pre-order so go order yourself a copy! The single contains three exclusive tracks along with the title track, which will appear on their upcoming full length, "Born to Die in Suburbia" due out this Summer on Grave Mistake Records (and in Europe on Taken By Surprise)! NIGHT BIRDS leave TODAY for their Midwest Tour with TENEMENT and GIVE, so check out those tour dates below!!

SECTARIAN VIOLENCE are currently 4 days into their European Tour, so check em out if they are hitting your area! They should have limited tour copies of their new LP, "Upward Hostility" so grab one if it's not too late. We are hoping to have the US version of the LP ready to roll mid-April!!! You can check out the title track up at the band's website, and we hope to have the LP streaming in FULL courtesy of our friends over at gluehc.com sometime this week (keep an eye on our FB and Twitter for more news on that)! Tour dates are below!

The SICKOIDS "No Home" 12" EP is also right around the corner! This new six song 12" is a beast of a record and a fitting follow up to last year's debut LP! While members of SICKOIDS are currently spread around the country, they are going to be hitting Europe on tour this June! You can see the dates at http://sickoids.blogspot.com/ ... Sorry State and I should have this release ready to roll mid April as well (you might be able to grab your copy at Damaged City and New York's Alright Fests if you are lucky!).

STRIKING DISTANCE will be playing UNITED BLOOD fest in Richmond in just TWO days!!! We are pushing to have some copies of their "March to your Grave" LP reissue available, but we are currently at the mercy of the pressing plant so at this point, who knows?! STRIKING DISTANCE has ALSO just been announced for a DAMAGED CITY FEST after show with the one and only THE AFTERMATH next month!!!! Get stoked!!! If we don't have that reissue for UB, we should DEFINITELY have it for DC!

THE SHIRKS also leave for tour next month, you can check the dates below ... do yourself a favor and check em out if they hit your town! They don't leave DC too often, so take advantage of it when they do!!! If you haven't picked up their newest 12" which came out last month, you can grab a copy in the GM webstore, from your favorite store or distro, or from the band on tour!

This is a new record, because I don't think in the history of the label I've had this many bands on tour (or about to go on tour) ... but KREMLIN will also be touring for a few weeks in the US this April as well! Their new LP will be available courtesy of BEACH IMPEDIMENT / BAD VIBRATIONS, and while we are pushing to have some copies of the "Will You Feed Me?" 7" US pressing ... not sure if we'll get em in time but they will definitely be available come May!! Their tour dates are below as well.

I think that's all for now on the band / release front! If you've made it this far, thank you for reading! On a final note, I added a few titles to the Grave Mistake Webstore ... finally got the new RIVAL MOB LP, new PISSED JEANS LP, DEATH CAMP 7", WAKE UP DEAD 7" COMPILATION, WRONG DECISION TAPE, and a few more goods! Check the full list below!

Thanks for reading, see you next week!

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE 3.27.13:

RIVAL MOB, THE "MOB JUSTICE" LP (REVELATION)
Drawn up by some of the most unsavory souls in the Boston, MA underground hardcore scene and reinforced by members who have done time in infamous area bands like Mind Eraser, Righteous Jams, Mental, XfilesX and many others, The Rival Mob have become the darlings of the current hardcore scene, inspiring shameless violence and playing high on the bill at the most important hardcore festivals in America: This Is Hardcore in Philadelphia, Sound And Fury in California, and Chaos in Tejas in Austin, TX. In between serving time with their current other projects World War 4, Give, No Tolerance, and Boston Strangler, the band will be playing on both coasts highlighted once again by the big summer festivals as well as their first-ever trip across the Atlantic to Europe. The band's Revelation Records debut picks up right where their previous EP, "Hardcore For Hardcore," left off, with vocalist Brendan Radigan spewing venom at the ills that plague both the outside world and the scene itself, all delivered over fast, stage dive-inspiring hardcore that brings to mind the best of mid-to-late '80s New York hardcore bands like Youth Of Today, Warzone, and Breakdown. Vinyl version includes digital download.

PISSED JEANS "HONEYS" LP (SUB POP)
Age and four full-lengths haven’t mellowed Pissed Jeans; they can still unleash a blare that will exfoliate your cochlea. Formed in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Pissed Jeans released Shallow, their first album, in 2005 on Parts Unknown Records. The band relocated to Philadelphia seven years ago, and Sub Pop released Hope for Men in 2007, and then King of Jeans in 2009. The latter was recorded by Grammy nominee Alex Newport, who also recorded Honeys.  Age and experience have, however, refined Pissed Jeans. Their ideas and execution have become more subtly focused. The songs on Honeys are direct without being obtuse, evocative without being vague, personal without being indulgent. They also rock like nobody’s business. Forget all the claptrap you’ve heard about other bands delivering the goods. If you want bloodthirsty, you’ve got it… At times Honeys is the sound of being bashed over the head with a snow shovel. At times the band slows down and sounds like waking from a nightmare you can’t quite remember. The songs are catchy, but in a way that would appeal to mental patients who only understand colors.  Honeys stews on the kind of mundane, niggling things that keep you up late at night. It’s an ode to the misery and shackles of being a responsible adult, and the shame of one’s own narcissism. Pissed Jeans trucks in menacing songs about insecurity, and nobody has ever done it better.

BRAIN VACATION "THE MUSICIANS" LP (WALL OF YOUTH)
Brain Vacation first appeared in 2008 as repulsive noise supposedly here from the post-apocalyptic future. Now that we’ve all survived 2012, BV re-emerges as an actual band from Chicago whose approach is a bit more tuneful but no less focused on the end of everything. Their new record takes full advantage of the fact that punk is whatever they make it to be — furious hardcore, upbeat pop, lumbering almost-metal — propelled by huge guitars and lots of yelling. This fearless sense of play makes it feel like the record could have been made 30 years ago by a group of Angeleno kids despite the fact that it was made a few months ago by a quartet of 30-year-old Anglo goons. Fuck Armageddon... This is The Musicians LP by Brain Vacation!  The LP (Wall of Youth’s first) is pressed on severely heavy 180 gram “molten core” colored vinyl and housed in a printed matte jacket with 2-sided lyric sheet/insert, shrink-wrapped for posterity and limited to 250 copies. Play at maximum volume for a real treat.

DEATH CAMP "TEENAGE NIGHTMARE" 7" (BLACK REBEL)
Here it is folks, the debut vinyl release for both Death Camp and Black Rebel Records... Finally available after many delays. The band plays heavy, almost metallic H/C, with their influences ranging equally from stuff like Sheer Terror & Warzone as well as The Replacements, Suede & Sisters of Mercy. The record was recorded live (even vocals) in March 2012 with Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios. Comes with a stickered poly bag with the band info on it to take away some of the mystery of what the hell you're listening to! Rochester RN'R baby!

RAW NERVES / ACTS OF SEDITION - SPLIT 7" (MAN IN DECLINE)
Ahead of a West Coast tour in March 2012, Man In Decline issued a split 7" by these two prolific bands. Raw Nerves comes on like a strong dose of early hardcore in the vein of The Fix and Negative Approach mixed with influences from the '90's like, Citizen's Arrest, Born Against and Rorschach. Acts of Sedition continue their established sound of dark, depressing hardcore that should appeal to fans of Tragedy, Born/Dead, Citizen's Arrest and Nausea.

WAKE UP DEAD VOL. 1 - V/A - COMP 7" (BAD TEETH)
Get excited about current hardcore all over again with this 7" compilation of 6 American bands featuring THE REPOS, CURMUDGEON, SEX PRISONER, TO THE POINT, SUCKED DRY and THICK SKIN. All new/exclusive material. Includes a beautiful 8-page booklet insert.

DOWN TO NOTHING "UNBREAKABLE" LP (REVELATION)
Down To Nothing started from humble beginnings in 2000. Around that time, local Richmond VA favorites Count Me Out and Time Flies found themselves at the tail end of their careers, making Down To Nothing the perfect fit to fill the void of the two fallen heroes. Like most young bands, DTN's expectations didn't go much further than a little touring and releasing a record. After putting out their first full-length, "Save It For The Birds" in 2003, DTN knew they were bound for more. In the next two years, DTN released two splits: The first came out in 2004 and was with Florida's Kids Like Us (Eulogy Records); the second split was the result of a strong friendship they forged with the UK's On Thin Ice on their first European tour in 2005. The two splits along with three unreleased songs were compiled and released as "Splitting Headache" in 2005. This compilation showed immense growth and acted as a bridge to their most recent work, "The Most." After being out of print for over a year, DTN's "Splitting Headache" and "Save It For The Birds" are finally available again on one special Revelation release, "Unbreakable." New pressing now available on purple vinyl and limited to 500 copies. Vinyl version includes digital download of this record.

INTEGRITY "SYSTEMS OVERLOAD" LP (ORGANIZED CRIME)
Originally released in 1995, "Systems Overload" was a shock to the hardcore scene that was focused more on politically correct ideas than the sheer brutality of the music. "Systems Overload" marks the third chapter from the first volume of one of the most loved and hated hardcore bands in history. This expanded edition contains new cover art, fold-out poster and layout by Dwid Hellion, as well as liner notes about the making of the record from Aaron Melnick. LP includes digital download.

LIARS ACADEMY "NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS" LP (EQUAL VISION)
Featuring ex-members of CROSS MY HEART (Deep Elm Records) and STRIKE ANYWHERE (Jade Tree Records) this Baltimore area trio plays polished and melodic hook-laden songs that will appeal to fans of all realms of emo and indie rock.

TERROR "NO REGRETS NO SHAME" LP (BRIDGE NINE)
With heart-stopping stage dives, singsongs and unparalleled energy from the band, "No Regrets No Shame..." captures Terror at their inception and in their glory days; a must-have for any modern-day hardcore fan. Now available on colored vinyl. Vinyl version includes digital download.

CEREMONY "ROHNERT PARK" LP (BRIDGE NINE)
Bay Area, CA's Ceremony is back with their third and most unpredictable full-length album to date: "Rohnert Park." This new album is equal parts aggressive, incendiary and, dare we say it, catchy. Don't let that fool you, though; Ceremony's trademark pissed off punk stomp is apparent on "Rohnert Park" and vocalist Ross Farrar's lyrics and delivery are as fiery as ever. Now available again on colored vinyl. Vinyl version includes digital download.

CRUEL HAND "PRYING EYES" LP (BRIDGE NINE)
Cruel Hand's "Prying Eyes" is a record that's going to knock you on your ass. Originally a side project for members of Outbreak, Cruel Hand has evolved from a band that never meant to tour into a band that has done three full US tours, a full European tour and are releasing their sophomore full-length on Bridge Nine. Combining early Metallica, Madball and a crossover hardcore style that sounds like a modern Agnostic Front or D.R.I., Cruel Hand is set to show you that hardcore can be metal or your metal can be hardcore. Now available on colored vinyl with a gatefold cover.

COCK SPARRER "TRUE GRIT OUTTAKES" LP (PIRATES PRESS)
Remixed and remastered, this foil-stamped gem includes all of the tracks that were recorded for their debut with Decca, only uncut with all the count-ins and banter in between. Previously released on CD by Captain Oi! as "Rarities," this record is like a snapshot of being in the studio with Cock Sparrer during the very early days. As would be expected with such an amazing band, many of these songs have held strong through decades of new music and continue to reign as many of the "hits" they still perform today.

WRONG DECISION "THE US TAPE" TAPE (BLEEDING EDGES)
Wrong Decision is a new band from Belgium. On first listen, I was getting comparisons to 86 Mentality, Dead Stop, Insurance Risk and Commitment Crew. Straight forward early 80's style US hardcore, with burly vocals is what you should be expecting. Most of these songs will be on an upcoming 7", but there's some exclusives here. The A side give you 8 ripping hardcore tracks, the B side you'll have to experience first hand...

WEBSTORE/LABEL UPDATE! New NEO CONS, WILD CHILD, VALLEY BOYS, and GM Bands ON TOUR!

Hello all! Not much to report on the label front this update, but a quick recap before I get to the new distro goods. THE SHIRKS "S/T" 12" and BIG EYES "Demo 2010" 7" have been available for almost a month now, so pick em up if you haven't yet! We have a very small amount of THE SHIRKS 12" on RED VINYL but they are going fast and shouldn't last too much longer!  Copies of both releases should be popping up in your favorite stores and distros shortly, so grab em if you see em!

On the new release front, everything is moving steadily so if all goes as planned we should see the new SICKOIDS and SECTARIAN VIOLENCE LPs by early April (the band will definitely have copies on their tour), with the 86 MENTALITY and STRIKING DISTANCE LP reissues not too far behind ... KREMLIN 7" test pressings should show up today as well, and the new BIG EYES LP is on track for an early May release. I hope to have much more info next week on some of these, including some new tracks posted up for your listening pleasure.  NIGHT BIRDS have also completed recording for their upcoming LP, "Born to Die in Suburbia," so we will be getting the gears turning on both that and the new BRAIN F≠ LP before the month is up! Stay tuned!

Finally, before I get into the webstore stuff, a few tours and fest announcements to make! BIG EYES will be hitting the West Coast with CRIMINAL CODE at the beginning of April; NIGHT BIRDS will be hitting the Midwest with TENEMENT and GIVE, that kicks off March 27th; SECTARIAN VIOLENCE will be touring Europe starting March 23rd; THE SHIRKS have also just announced a Southern / Midwest tour next month and that starts April 6th! On top of these tours, be sure to make your way to UNITED BLOOD fest here in Richmond at the end of this month (STRIKING DISTANCE and IRON BOOTS are playing!), and DAMAGED CITY FEST in Washington, DC in mid April. We are hoping to have some new vinyl for these fests, and while it's not 100% definite what will be available, our fingers are crossed!

Please check out the full tour dates for these bands below, and definitely check em out if they come to your town! Now, on to what's new in the webstore for this week ...

WHAT'S NEW FOR 3/15/2013:
http://www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog/products_new.php

As always, I'm going to try and keep this as short and sweet as possible! First up, we've got the two newest releases from Deranged - the brand new NEO CONS 7" and the new WILD CHILD 7" (and I JUST sold out of the WILD CHILD Demo 7", hoping to get more of those soon though!).  Normally I don't advertise colored / limited vinyl in the distro, but I got a handful of the new NEO CONS 7" on BLUE VINYL from Deranged - while it's a bit more than the black vinyl copies (which I also have), we figured this would be a little bit cheaper for all of you who wanted the limited but couldn't swing that pricey Canadian shipping. Hopefully we will be getting limited versions of future Deranged releases as well! I also grabbed a slew of killer singles including the TRAUMA Demo 7", the latest from HERATYS, the newest HOAX 7" (I only grabbed a few so scoop it up fast!), and more!

On the LP front, picked up the newest WAXAHATCHEE LP and newest LP from STEVE ADAMYK BAND (I also restocked on their First LP!); grabbed a handful of the new LP from Canada's VALLEY BOYS (featuring members of BRUTAL KNIGHTS, SCHOOL JERKS, and More!); I also came across some deadstock / out of print titles from Chicago's UNDERESTIMATED RECORDS including LPs from CORNERSTONE, FASTBREAK, OUTLAST, plus the NO REPLY 7" too (I also restocked on the STATE "All Wrong" LP and NO JUSTICE 7"!) ... some killer mid-late90's HC and at a nice price too so pick em up!

Grabbed a bunch of demos including tapes from Washington DC's BLOCKHEAD, Cleveland's WETBRAIN, Sweden's CORRECTION, and more! Also restocked on some gems, including the first HASSLER 7", BELGRADO 7", first two NO PROBLEM 7"s, BIG EYES "Hard Life" Tape, MANPIG LP, a few SPITS LPs, and more!

Full list is below, check it out and thanks for reading and your support. Stay tuned for more GM updates in the coming weeks!!!

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE 3/15/13:

NEO CONS "IDIOT CIRCUS" 7" (DERANGED)
Final release from these Bay Area bozos featuring six high energy hardcore-by-death stompers and their loudest, nastiest recording yet. If you haven’t caught em live, prepare for a sweaty mess of pig piles and manic stupidity. I have copies on limited BLUE VINYL!

WILD CHILD "S/T" 7" (DERANGED)
Best demo I heard in 2011 and here we finally have their debut record.  For those who heard the demo (Fashionable Idiots just released the demo on vinyl), this is more of the same chaotic hardcore. A more snarly DEEP WOUND?  Excellent.  (Deranged Records #218)

HOAX "SICK PUNK" 7" (LA VIDA ES UN MUS)
Released in time for their February/March European tour HOAX grace us with a new two song single. Both tracks are hard moshing anthems with a nasty destructive sound. Distorted to the max and with a blown out of control guitar this double A side single is a bass heavy yet catchy and memorable hardcore piece of rage.  The sleeve art designed by Heather Benjamin reflects perfectly the vibe on this release. Claustrophobic hardcore for non fitting punks. UK IMPORT!!!

TRAUMA "S/T" 7" (BULKHEAD)
Vinyl reissue/remaster of Trauma's hard-to-find and excellent demo! Scathingly fast hardcore that makes allusion to 80s Northern European classics (a la Crude SS and Mob 47) while still keeping a foot firmly planted in the good 'ol USofA. Trauma's line-up consists of a cast of savvy veterans (members of Tragedy, Final Warning, Longknife, Deathreat...etc...etc) and their collective experience is undeniable when heard pummeling through this batch of songs.

HERATYS "NAEN PUNAISTA" 7" (PRANK)
Sweden's HERATYS combine the overdrive of D-beat hardcore like TOTALITAR with the savage consonant-laden vocal attack of classic Finnish hardcore, topping this 7-song rampage with blazing guitar leads punctuated with searing quick solos. Featuring members of SCUMBRIGADE and SKITSYSTEM, HERATYS were a unique band in Swedish hardcore, singing entirely in Finnish. They wrote - and thankfully recorded- this final 7" before their unexpected breakup in 2012, as it's one of the most completely raging Scandinavian - or otherwise- hardcore records of recent note, reaching their most seamless combination of the influences that surfaced in their previous 12" and 4 song EP released in Europe. US pressing of this EP was mastered by George Horn with heavyweight vinyl in pocket sleeve with insert. European pressing on LA FAMILIA. Members now play in HARDA TILDER and INSTITUTION.

EFFLUXUS "DEVOID" 7" (PRANK)
Blasting noise edged "headache hardcore" from the SF Bay Area, EFFLUXUS mix caustic influences from blown out Japanese and chaotic European hardcore with their own straight ahead overdrive. Featuring former members of MORPHEME, YADOKAI, SANCTUM and DETONIZE, EFFLUXUS' debut Prank 4 song EP features their trademark harsh buzzsaw guitar distortion, Hauntingly echoing Shouted vocals and thundering drum attack. A raw explosion of Intensity, EFFLUXUS previously released a 12" on Seattle's RUST & MACHINE and have numerous DIY demos released worldwide. One of the strong forces of the current Bay Area DIY Scene, regularly organizing festivals, gigs and tours, EFFLUXUS will tour the west coast in May with Sweden's INFERNOH. Cover art by Guillem from DESTINO FINAL, Mastered by George horn with heavyweight vinyl in textured pocket sleeve with insert.

BROKEN PRAYER "WOW" 7" (NOT NORMAL)
In anticipation of their soon-to-be-legendary LP on Sorry State Records, Broken Prayer wished to release a single showcasing their pop classic WOW! When BP's frontman approached Not Normal about releasing it, he handed me two envelopes: one with the tracks and a short letter requesting that the purveyors of taste and slime Not Normal assist in releasing them and a second only to be opened if we declined said request. While I'm sure everything was on the up-and-up, I'm sincerely glad we agreed to release this one.

VEINS "S/T" 7" (YOUTH ATTACK)
Six expositions on our collective hopes and dreams succumbing to futility. For within the blanketing comfort of hopelessness lie new pathways towards examining our festering, rotting selves: as allegiances inevitably wither, emotions fade, and covenants shatter into endless reflections, all we have is to gaze hesitantly upon ourselves, the ravaged remains.

NO REPLY "S/T" 7" (MANKIND)
Deadstock copies of the debut EP from this now defunct Southern California hardcore band. No Reply led the pack in the "bandana thrash"/"skate punk" revival of the late '90s along with their brother band Lifes Halt. Features members of Knife Fight, Lifes Halt and The Suicide File.

IRON CHIC "SPLIT N SHIT" 7" (DEAD BROKE)
3 Songs from Iron Chic's two European 7 inches, including a bonus alternate cover song (PLOW UNITED!) Comes w/ download.

AWFUL MAN "WAITING FOR THE TANKS TO COME ROLLING IN" 7" (DEAD BROKE)
Brand new E.P. of that desperate, melodic, dirty pop-punk you crave. (from members of: Witches With Dicks, Closet Fairies, Fuddy Duddys, Brain Killer...) These Boston oi-boiz are back for more! (Comes w/ download)

REAL ENEMY "LIFE WITH THE ENEMY" LP (MIND CURE)
Hailing from Pittsburgh, PA Real Enemy staked their claim as the pioneers of Hardcore in the Three Rivers. After seeing The Necros, Faith and The Meatmen in Washington DC on March 6th 1983, and realizing that Hardcore had to come to their hometown Real Enemy formed and played their first show just 53 days later. Sharing stages with a veritable who’s who of 80’s American Punk bands – J.F.A., Husker Du, Youth Brigade, Toxic Reasons, Channel 3, The Necros among others – Real Enemy burned strong and fast, breaking up after barely 6 months as a band. Before half of the band reformed as Pittsburgh’s best known export of 80s Hardcore – Half Life – they left behind a legacy of one cassette, released on a newly minted label: Mind Cure Records. 30 years later Mind Cure (the label) is back with this restored and remastered version of “Life With the enemy” expanded to include live material recorded at CBGBs. Featuring original cover art and a poster sized fold-out insert packed with photos, flyers and extensive liner notes from Real Enemy and Half Life founding member and Gearhead Magazine and Records head honcho Mike LaVella.

VALLEY BOYS "S/T" LP (CUT THE CORD THAT)
New band of Jon Sharron (Brutal Knights, Career Suicide, Union Of Uranus and Chokehold, ha ha) with folks from School Jerks and Vapids.  In dedication to the stupidity of humanity: Cut the Cord That... Records presents the debut twelve inch extended play platter of the Valley Boys. Ten songs that convey the complete and utter disappointment, disillusionment, and distaste for social norms and the society that feeds your malnourished thought process. With all the love of a stillborn child and a hot glass of milk this record will penetrate a little solace to your otherwise mundane daily life. "Usually, when people say that they play something like "simple, no bullshit punk rock" it just sounds like boring ass bar rock. I always wish it sounded more like this Valley Boys tape that is blasting out of my stereo right now, because this shit sounds perfect. Equal parts Dead Boys, Supercharger and Problematics with tons of attitude and hooks galore ! Not one song is a sleeper or esembles anything close to bar rock. You want this !" - MRR

WAXAHATCHEE "CERULEAN SALT" LP (DON GIOVANNI)
On this new record, Crutchfield’s songs continue to be marked by her sharp, hooky songwriting; her striking voice and lyrics that simultaneously seem hyper-personal yet relentlessly relatable, teetering between endearingly nostaglic and depressingly dark. But whereas before the thematic focus of her songcraft was on break ups and passive-aggressive crushing, this record reflects on her family and Alabama upbringing. And whereas American Weekend was mostly just Crutchfield and her guitar, Cerulean Salt is occasionally amped up, with a full band and higher-fi production. At times, Cerulean Salt creeps closer to the sound of PS Eliot: moody, 90s-inspired rock backed by Keith Spencer and Swearin’ guitarist Kyle Gilbridge on drums and bass. The full band means fleshed-out fuzzy lead guitars on “Coast to Coast”, its poppy hook almost masking its dark lyrics. Big distorted guitars and deep steady drums mark songs like “Misery over Dispute” and “Waiting”. There’s plenty of American Weekend‘s instrospection and minimalism to be found, though. “Blue Pt. II” is stripped down, Crutchfield and her sister Alison (of Swearin’) singing in harmony with deadpan vox. She’s still an open booking, musing on self-doubt versus self-reliance, transience versus permanence. “Peace and Quiet” ebbs and flows from moody, minimal verses to a sing-song chorus. “Swan Dive” tackles nostalgia, transience, indifference, regret — over the a minimal strum of an electric-guitar, the picking at a chirpy riff and the double-time tapping of a muted drum. The album closes with a haunting acoustic-guitar reflection on “You’re Damaged,” possibly the best Waxahatchee song to date.

STEVE ADAMYK BAND "THIRD" LP (DIRTNAP)
BOOM! Canada's Capital City veteran punks The Steve Adamyk Band are back at it again, unleashing their third album, aptly titled, Third. The last two years have taken SAB on tour in Europe (twice), to SXSW (twice), Awesome Fest, Sled Island and beyond. Late 2011 saw the first line-up change, bringing Dave Forcier of Pregnancy Scares to the kit, along with Seb Godin of Sonic Avenues on bass into the mix, keeping Dave Williams active in the band with studio endeavors. The formula is the same as always; bringing a punk edge to classic power-pop, with help from a strong modern garage influence. You could call it aggressive pop-punk, keeping it tight and far from over-produced. The formula is simple - no one is trying to re-invent the wheel. With that said, they're staying clear of cheese and cliches. Third is the band's most solidified recording to date. Don't miss them coming to your town in 2013!

LSD "DISCOGRAPHY" LP (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
This ripping release combines recordings from Japanese greats L.S.D.’s Flexi 1984, Just Last EP, compilation & studio demo tracks, and a great sounding live set from Sapporo in 84.

HATRED SURGE / ENDLESS BLOCKADE - SPLIT LP (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
Toronto's The Endless Blockade start this split off with their own brand of crushing metallic powerviolence with shrieked vocals while Hatred Surge keep the tradition of gulf coast grind alive with a male and female vocal assault howled over powerful, thrashing hardcore.

V/A - TORONTO'S BURNING COMPILATION LP (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
This compilation captures some of Toronto, Canada's better and lesser-known hardcore, punk and metal bands circa 2009, including Urban Blight, Rammer, Dangerloves, The Reprobates, Living Darkness and Hazardous Waste and more.

ACCUSED "THE RETURN OF MARTHA SPLATTERHEAD" LP (UNREST)
Re-mastered and available on vinyl once again!!  Here is the first full-length masterpiece from the Kings of Splatter released on LP in 1986 by COMBAT. This classic has been out of print on LP for over 10 years and will now be available including lyrics.  This legendary release has influenced many bands around the world because of its fiercely original style. Martha is back!!

CRIMINAL CODE "COLD THOUGHT" LP (INCIMAL)
Within one year Criminal Code has released a demo, a 7", a Live on KEXP tape (all of which are now out of print), toured the West Coast with Big Crux and appeared on KBOO's Life During Wartime. Somehow they managed to fit in the recording of this 12" EP, and managed to make it their best effort yet. Now that the band has added another guitar and new drummer to their arsenal, they took their Husker Du/Greg Sage influences and made it their own unique sound. They are already planning another tour in Spring, and recording another 7”EP proving that the momentum of this band is relentless. Recorded at Buzz or Howl Studios. Artwork by FEEDING. Limited to 510 copies. No repress.

CRISIS "HYMNS OF FAITH" LP (LA VIDA ES UN MUS)
Hymns Of Faith' by Crisis is finally re-released after some thirty years and yet it seems like only yesterday that I bought it upon its release. For thirty years, I have championed Crisis, like some kind of leper in the musical wilderness. I still cannot believe that La Vida Es Un Mus finally heard me. Very few records deserve the tag of classic, but 'Hymns Of Faith' is a classic record! Recorded by a band that was in the throes of death, this mini-LP features seven tracks of political punk (although some would describe it as post punk, an insult of the worst kind), covering the political spectrum from the Italian Red Brigades to the Kanada Kommando of Auschwitz. The LP may have lacked the bite of the earlier singles, but 'Hymns' was innovative and original, and has never been bettered, yet alone equalled. Forget 'Killed By Death', this my friends is the real deal! After Crisis, Douglas P and Tony Wakeford formed Death In June and Luke Rendall joined Theatre Of Hate. Kneel and bow in reverence to 'Hymns Of Faith'!

CRIMINALS, THE "NEVER BEEN CAUGHT" LP (DEAD BROKE)
The Criminals' debut album, Never Been Caught, originally on LOOKOUT! RECORDS, now re-issued in all it’s punk rock glory & at home at Dead Broke! The album was recorded at Catbox Studios in Oakland, California in January 1997 and was engineered by Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day), and features cover art by Jesse Michaels (Operation Ivy). Originally existing from 1994-2000, The Criminals have reunited in 2012 to tear shit up. Trashy, grimey, menacing & poppy punk rock like no other than The Criminals. Members of: BLATZ, THE GR’UPS, ECONOCHRIST, THE FRISK & a million fucking more. Crime pays.

WIDE ANGLES "SMILE MORE" LP (DEAD BROKE)
Melodic, urgent, & rough around the edges Chicago punk rock! Achin' to Naked Raygun and Pegboy while maintaining a fucking melodic-ridden original blend of timeless Chicago punk. (Split release w/ Dirt Cult Records) 1st pressing: 500 pressed on Black vinyl.

YOUR PEST BAND "SMASH HITS!" LP (DEAD BROKE)
High-energy, lo-fi, Japanese garage punk rock that will kick the door down and drop yer’ jaw to the floor. Complete Singles collection on one 12" black vinyl LP. Includes both their 7” EP’s (Your Pest Vinyl EP & Ground Zero EP) as well as the split 7”s with The Miscasts, The Centerhits, Eine Kleine Chinmuzik, Holy Shit!, 3- way split w/ Defect Defect & Groaning Groove, 4-way Split 7” Vol. 3 (Dead Broke) & more! Split release w/ Snuffy Smiles Records (Japan). 400 Pressed.

STATE "ALL WRONG" LP (UNDERESTIMATED)
After putting out one of the best Midwestern hardcore 7"s in the early '80s and an LP soon after, Michigan's State broke up and stayed out of sight for many years. Fast forward to 2006 and the band have an LP that harkens back to that old 7", with 14 songs of speedy, pissed off hardcore punk with full-bore aggression and thumping rhythms.

OUTLAST "AS SURE AS I LIVE" LP (UNDERESTIMATED)
Killer posicore from Sweden! Unearthed some deadstock copies of this rager which came out in the late 90's/early 00's. I believe this is a collection of their 10" and maybe some 7"s too. I remember giving this many spins when I got my hands on it when it first came out, definitely recommended to all of you posi-core / youth crew aficionados!  Please note - these LPs are almost 15 years old, so while they aren't in mint / new condition (some minor wear on the cover and edges), DEFINITELY worth it for the price!

FASTBREAK "FAST CARS, FAST WOMEN" LP (UNDERESTIMATED)
Deadstock copies!  Spun this record again the first time in years the other day, and guess what ... it still holds up! Fastbreak started as a bunch of teenagers doing their best YOUTH OF TODAY impression, but this LP found them going a bit more melodic route, but just enough melody to keep it core (my best comparison would be later TURNING POINT). I think their second LP found them adding on even more melody heading towards the SAVES THE DAY route (I honestly don't know if I've ever heard that second LP), but FAST CARS FAST WOMEN I might say is almost an underrated LP for the era it which it came out.  Please note - these LPs are about 15 years old, so while they aren't in mint / new condition (some minor wear on the cover and edges), DEFINITELY worth it for the price!

CORNERSTONE "BEATING THE MASSES" LP (UNDERESTIMATED)
Deadstock copies! Here's another NEW ENGLAND STRAIGHT EDGE HARDCORE SMASHER from the mid 90's unearthed from the UNDERESTIMATED RECORDS vaults/basement/Anton's dungeon of vinyl and pain ... "Cornerstone was a 90's straight edge hardcore band from Connecticut. This is the band's only full length, Ernie from Token Entry did the artwork, and it's only barely over 14 minutes long. This just means that there are no filler tracks, so every song is a banger. Members went on to start Fastbreak. If you're a fan of youth crew, this is something you should check out." Please note - these LPs are close to 20 years old, so while they aren't in mint / new condition (some minor wear on the cover and edges), DEFINITELY worth it for the price!

CORRECTION - DEMO TAPE
This is a new demo from a straight edge hardcore punk band from Göteborg, Sweden. It's obvious this came from Scandi-land with the strong Mob47 vibes, but it also has the hooks of classic youth crew and the urgency/rawness of old Boston stuff. Lyrics have a very strong straight edge and political slant. One song, for example, rails against the right wing shift and slow de-socialization of the Swedish government with a hard preservative stance. This demo breaks all the rules, and that’s why I like it so much. Crust doggs and youth crew nerds, united as one.

BLOCKHEAD - DEMO TAPE
Killer skate punk/hc from DC featuring members of bands you might have heard of!

WETBRAIN - DEMO TAPE (CUT THE CORD THAT)
Wetbrain are from Cleveland and for sure these guys were in bands like H100s, Gordon Solie Motherfuckers, Inmates, Darvocets, Nine Shocks Terror, Annihilation Time, Midnight bla bla bla and play amazing hc/ punk. You can find all songs here: http://old-fast-and-loud.blogspot.de/2012/10/wetbrain-deeemo-2012-cleveland-oh.html

MENANITES - DEMO TAPE (NOT NORMAL)
Snotty, shitheaded punk from new NWI miscreants, Menanites. Takes equal cues from old KBD comps and the legions of Indiana Mutants that came before them. 11 track demo that features both Cher and Black Randy & the Metrosquad covers. Essential.

SIDE FX - DEMO TAPE (NOT NORMAL)
The new era of Indianapolis Hardcore is here. Side FX (ex-Picked Clean) has graciously bestowed upon us four tracks of snottified, Straight Ahead worship, the lead singer sounding off like some petulant child. The real deal.

LOW CULTURE "SCREENS" TAPE (DEAD BROKE)
Tape version of their debut LP on Dirtnap! Scrappy, melodic garagepunk from Las Cruces, NM. Members of The Marked Men and Shang-A-Lang! In late 2011, when it was clear that Shang-A-Lang was coming to an end, Chris asked Sam and Cade (of Total Jock) if they wanted to start a new band. Low Culture practiced a few times as a three-piece, but a few weeks later Joe (Marked Men/Shang-A-Lang) moved back to Las Cruces and joined the band. Low Culture’s first show was in early November 2011 was at Shang-A-Lang’s last show and the band's been moving full steam ahead ever since. With a few short regional trips and a tour of the Northeast and Canada with Iron Chic in support of their debut 7" under their belt, they're showing no signs of slowing down. A European tour is in the works for March of 2013 as well as many US dates as their work schedules will allow. Low Culture plays catchy garage punk that while not far removed from some of the members' previous projects, Shang-A-Lang, has a lot less emphasis on riffs and blown out recordings, and more emphasis on melody and crisp (while not necessarily “over-produced”) recordings. Produced by Mark Ryan (Marked Men/Mind Spiders) in Fort Worth, mastered by Dave Williams (Crusades, Steve Adamyk Band) in Ottawa. This is their debut LP, with the promise of more to come.

BEAR TRADE "HIP FLASK LIFE" TAPE (DEAD BROKE)
Good ol' fashioned melodic U.K. punk rock. Comes w/ download! (ex- Blocko/Southport, Former Cell Mates)!

HA HA! ZINE - ISSUE #1
HA HA! Fanzine is finally here, compiling various writings from the last few years, many of which were originally intended for the oft-delayed and finally dead and buried Dead Possession #2. Contains Now Is The Now article (write-up on the top US bands and their respective scenes including: Dawn of Humans, Pukeoid, Culo, Confines, and Son Skull), record reviews, and, of course, unfounded opinions and shit talking, plus one of five possible center spreads of the above mentioned bands. B&W, 8.5"x7"

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #359 - APRIL 2013
Holy shitballs! Another issue of MRR is here and we’re very excited about it! GRAVE MISTAKE New and Upcoming Releases / Tours / New Webstore Update!!!

Two months down for 2013, and thankfully Spring is right around the corner! Things are busy as can be over here at GMHQ, so let's get right to it! A small but awesome webstore update today which I'll get to shortly, but let me fill you in on some Grave Mistake happenings first ...

If you haven't heard, the first two releases of 2013 are now available! We've got the new 12" from Washington DC's THE SHIRKS, and the repress / rerelease of the BIG EYES "Demo 2010" 7"! I'm beyond excited with how both of these turned out, and although they took a bit longer than planned to release, I think they were both worth the wait! You can grab copies of both in the Webstore (still have some copies of THE SHIRKS LP on RED VINYL for mailorder!) and they should be popping up in your favorite stores and distros soon!  If you'd like to carry copies for your store / distro / label or if you do a zine or blog or something fun like that and would like promo material, write me back here!

Up next we've got a bunch of new releases hoping for late March / early April and those include the new SICKOIDS "No Home" 12", SECTARIAN VIOLENCE "Upward Hostility" LP, 86 MENTALITY "Goin' Nowhere Fast" LP singles collection, and repress of the STRIKING DISTANCE "March to your Grave" LP! March will also (hopefully) see the first VINYL CONFLICT LABEL release, the BARGE "No Gain" 7"! Then late April / Early May will bring us the BIG EYES LP (we will have more info on this one next week, promise!), the US pressing of the KREMLIN "Will You Feed Me?" 7", and the second VINYL CONFLICT release, the DEVIL'S HAND "Welcome the Slaughter" 7"!  Finally, we are going to get cracking on our first releases for Summer, the BRAIN F≠ "Empty Set" LP and the NIGHT BIRDS "Born to Die in Suburbia" LP! Much more on those in the coming months!

In addition to these new releases, several GM bands will be hitting the road shortly! SECTARIAN VIOLENCE will be doing a European Tour in late March / early April; NIGHT BIRDS will be hitting the Midwest with the one and only TENEMENT and the one and only GIVE this month; and BIG EYES have just announced a West Coast tour this April with CRIMINAL CODE!! We've got all of the dates and info below, so check em out and be sure to catch these bands if they are playing near you!

Finally, be sure to make plans to hit UNITED BLOOD FEST in Richmond, DAMAGED CITY FEST in DC, and CHAOS IN TEJAS in Austin!!!!!

Now, on to what's new in the webstore ...

WHAT'S NEW FOR 3/1/2013:

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE 03.01.13:

VIOLENT FUTURE "S/T" 7" (SLASHER)
Brand new 4 track 7" on Slasher records. "Toronto's VIOLENT FUTURE are a new band formed out of former members of BAD CHOICE. But the band is more than that with the singer from URBAN BLIGHT playing guitar and the main city’s promoter, Greg “Stuck in the City” Benedetto, on drums. So there is a classic east coast vibe to the band because that’s the music that the members grew up listening to. Think of that primal sound hardcore sound that east coast bands produced while trying to reproduce the bands coming out of the early UK HC scene. It’s the link that makes sense out of seeing that guy with the leather jacket with the ANGELIC UPSTARTS logo on the back who was at the NEGATIVE APPROACH segment for “Why be something that you’re not” video. There certainly is the NEGATIVE FX or DYS sound, but there is also a CRIMINAL DAMAGE vibe in the songs where you can hear this creeping oi sound to the material. And the comparisons don’t stop there. Christian writes bleak lyrics that capture the dire times of the mid 80’s in the Thatcher/Reagan era."

WILD CHILD "DEMO" 7" (FASHIONABLE IDIOTS)
Guest services at Fashionable Idiots and the shady PR Firm of Rock Bottom Records thought that local degenerates, Wild Child had such a raging demo that it should be pressed to wax and available to the masses.  They smashed their heads together and here we are.  Thanks to a swift kick in the ass by Mammoth Sound Mastering this thing rips a lot harder and will melt yer record needle instead of clog up that old reel to reel cassette deck, cool.  Wild Child plays unhinged hc/punk that may bring to mind sounds of Boston not LA, but with an LA vocal delivery ala Darby snarl.

AVON LADIES "S/T" 7" (FASHIONABLE IDIOTS / DISTORT)
Chris Erba started the Avon Ladies with an hand flier…. "Vocalist looking for fellow assholes to start a ripping h/c band! Do you want to hurt people with violence disguised as music? If you're a run away, struggling with alcohol abuse or pregnancy... YOU'RE NOT ALONE! Noise influences = Bad Posture, old foreign h/c, Urban Waste, Die Kreuzen, Electric Eels. * Recently moved here from Cleveland, OH. Ex vocalist for many bands including h-100's, The Ruiners, Upstab, Windpipe, etc.* Have existing self owned hardcore label, have been playing / touring in bands since 1991. if you're ready to wreck shit and make hardcore destructive and unpredictable, fucking email me." Avon Ladies were the result. This is their second 7" record. They've now broken up. Life is full of excitement and wonder.

GRABBIES -"SHUT UP AND LEARN LIVE" 7" (FASHIONABLE IDIOTS / DISTORT)
"I learnt English from listening to punk rock records... that's how I know to say fuck you, fuck you, fuck you and fucking die." About a decade ago, a couple of Italian immigrants arrived on American soil, and they ploughed, and they worked, and the fruits of their labour was a punk band called The Grabbies. This record is a document of the band playing live, and it stands with live recordings like those of SS and h100's: raw, volatile, horrible music, with some of the best in between song banter you'll ever hear. It was released at the time as a bootleg by a smart American man, and this is not the super deluxe 180 gram vinyl reissue, but strives for the low production values of the original. Granted that it's 2013, it's probably worse. Listen to this when bathing your litter, and appreciate the limitless potentials of human experience.

NERVOUS SYSTEM "SECOND" 7" (BAD HAIR LIFE)
Kouvola, Finland aged juveniles who learned their English from T.V., movies, and punk rock, throw six lashes of skateboard boozer casualty hardcore.  There are 300 of these black plastic charms available for individuals wanting to disturb the peace and smell up their house.

PERRAS SALVAJES "S/T" 7" (BAD HAIR LIFE)
Madrid, Spain matador-killers set fire to the surroundings with five destroyer rocker punk curses screamed in your face with ferocious female rabidity.  The music rocks livers and rolls dead men where they lie.  500 pressed on black frozen oil.

BUREAUCRATS "FEEL THE PAIN" 7" (UGLY POP)
The Bureaucrats only released one 45 and a couple comp tracks during their short career, but this 1980 single is one of the very best-- and rarest-- of all Canadian punk records. Two songs here, recorded in December 1979, and each is a bright star in the early punk/pop pantheon, both surging, memorable tunes delivered with loads of energy and angst. A Canadian counterpart to The Jam, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Clash etc, and genuinely that good! In pocket sleeve with new insert.

POINTED STICKS "WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?" 7" (UGLY POP)
These early Vancouver punks released some pretty great records over their short career, but this 1978 debut will probably remain the classic 45 they'll be best known for. Nothing fancy, art-damaged or vicious here, just two near-perfect blasts of loud, snappy, melodic punk that's inspired countless bands since. Certainly not the rarest or most obscure record, but one that deserves to be readily available to anyone with a taste for quality punk rock singles. Colour pocket sleeve.

SECRET PROSTITUTES / COLA FREAKS - SPLIT LP (BAD HAIR LIFE)
Houston and Århus wine and cheese connoisseurs mingle and flirt with disaster in a collection of angel dusted divorce anthems. The final four needle tracks from the Freaks, recorded at Disney Studios in Orlando, Florida for this release. Seven tracks from the street Prostitutes inspired by family morals and good housekeeping.  1000 pressed in hell by the devil on invincible black vinyl. (Bad Hair Life 2013, BHL11)

KAPYKAARI "S/T" LP (BAD HAIR LIFE)
Rough-edged attitude with full speed. Slanted, rough-edged, angry Finnish punk rock with anarchistic lyrics. This is what Käpykaarti brings to the table. These guys have been doing this for many years, and it shows. Bling-bling rock stars, the Winter War fans and other bases of the society get their share of the old-timers’ derision. Käpykaarti shout the facts and they do it loud! (Sarasteen Pienmuovi  / Bad Hair Life 2011, LN-007)

LAND OF NOD - V/A COMP - ATL. PUNK/HARDCORE OMNIBUS LP (SCAVENGER OF DEATH)
This record is the feather in our cap, our raison d'etre, and it finally happened. This record is a snapshot of the recent vintage of Atlanta punk bands. About half of the record was recorded (sorta) Process of Elimination style -- A bunch of rockers getting drunk and barbecuing in Clay Kilbourne's backyard as the bands took turns recording in his basement. Anyways, the bands: GG King, Cops, Bukkake Boys, Gentleman Jesse, Vincas, Shaved Christ, Predator, GHB, Acid Freaks, Manic, Ralph, Wymyns Prysyn, Gods Balls. 19 tracks total punk/hardcore/grindcore/etc. I've got the A-side up on our bandcamp (link above). it comes with a newsprint booklet featuring band info/artwork/etc.

ASTA KASK "ALDRIG EN" LP (PRANK)
Re-issue of the seminal first full length 19-song LP by Sweden's legendary melodic punk band ASTA KASK, from 1986. Re-issued with a new alternate cover and extensive remastering by the band with Peter En Betou. Lacquers cut by George Horn. Features "Lasse Lasse Liten", "Ringhals Brinner" and many of the band's legendary tracks they still perform live. ASTA KASK continues to perform in their native Sweden as they pass their 25th anniversary and continues to tour worldwide, most recently playing in Columbia! Includes new liner notes. Limited to 1,000 Copies in heavyweight sleeve!

CALIFORNIA X "S/T" LP (DON GIOVANNI)
In less than a year, Amherst trio California X have emerged from basements and punk practice spaces of Massachusetts as one of the tightest new garage punk bands in the Northeast, teetering between various pockets of the punk spectrum — drawing influence from the worlds of noisy 80s Western Mass rock, fuzzy 90s garage pop, and classic post-hardcore SST sounds. Fronted by main songwriter Lemmy Gurtowsky, their debut LP for Don Giovanni follows one prior release, a double A-side single “Sucker” b/w “Mummy” out via the UK’s Sound of Sweet Nothing label.  From start to finish, the record’s eight hook-heavy tracks of melodic guitar punk could all be singles: the noisy vox and huge grungy riffs on “Curse of the Nightmare”; the slower-burning head-banging pulse of “Pond Rot”; the shoegaze-inflicted fleshed-out melodies of “Lemmy’s World”. Songs like “Hot Hed” feels so essential you’ll wonder how they’re not actually from some long-lost punk tapes of the 1980s Western Mass. Appropriately, the band recorded the album in MA with Justin Pizzoferrato, previously a collaborator with Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr –  and though California X sound like they could have been contemporaries with those bands, they’re also carving out their own space in a lineage of their hometown’s punk history.

SCREECHING WEASEL "HOW TO MAKE ENEMIES AND IRRITATE PEOPLE" LP (RECESS)
The 6th Screeching Weasel studio album rises from the dead again! Some would consider this the second "last" Screeching Weasel album. Riverdales were right around the corner at this point so it makes sense that this album is even more Ramones-inspired than the last. Mike Dirnt (Green Day) filled in Vapid's shoes for this album, after his departure. Recut for the best vinyl pleasure by Lucky Lacquers and the best SW art rework to date by Riccardo Bucchioni!

PREDATOR "15 TRACK CASSETTE" TAPE (SCAVENGER OF DEATH)
Predator kicks ass, and while they've disappeared off the radar, they haven't stopped writing some stellar music. The two main guys in Predator have been playing in bands together nonstop for about 12 years, and they've taken their wire, agnew, and early hardcore influences and turned up the contrast, and the pendulum arcs farther into a moody abyss this time. This tape has 8 new recordings, including the two tracks on the comp mentioned below (the only band not to have entirely exclusive tracks) plus a b-side with unreleased tracks and a few alternate versions of their hits. When their lp came out, they had recorded a lot more songs than they needed, and consequentially my favorite song ("Spacewalk") was left off the record. Now people outside Atlanta finally get to hear it.
