WEBSTORE/LABEL UPDATE! New NEO CONS, WILD CHILD, VALLEY BOYS, and GM Bands ON TOUR!

Hello all! Not much to report on the label front this update, but a quick recap before I get to the new distro goods. THE SHIRKS "S/T" 12" and BIG EYES "Demo 2010" 7" have been available for almost a month now, so pick em up if you haven't yet! We have a very small amount of THE SHIRKS 12" on RED VINYL but they are going fast and shouldn't last too much longer!  Copies of both releases should be popping up in your favorite stores and distros shortly, so grab em if you see em!

On the new release front, everything is moving steadily so if all goes as planned we should see the new SICKOIDS and SECTARIAN VIOLENCE LPs by early April (the band will definitely have copies on their tour), with the 86 MENTALITY and STRIKING DISTANCE LP reissues not too far behind ... KREMLIN 7" test pressings should show up today as well, and the new BIG EYES LP is on track for an early May release. I hope to have much more info next week on some of these, including some new tracks posted up for your listening pleasure.  NIGHT BIRDS have also completed recording for their upcoming LP, "Born to Die in Suburbia," so we will be getting the gears turning on both that and the new BRAIN F≠ LP before the month is up! Stay tuned!

Finally, before I get into the webstore stuff, a few tours and fest announcements to make! BIG EYES will be hitting the West Coast with CRIMINAL CODE at the beginning of April; NIGHT BIRDS will be hitting the Midwest with TENEMENT and GIVE, that kicks off March 27th; SECTARIAN VIOLENCE will be touring Europe starting March 23rd; THE SHIRKS have also just announced a Southern / Midwest tour next month and that starts April 6th! On top of these tours, be sure to make your way to UNITED BLOOD fest here in Richmond at the end of this month (STRIKING DISTANCE and IRON BOOTS are playing!), and DAMAGED CITY FEST in Washington, DC in mid April. We are hoping to have some new vinyl for these fests, and while it's not 100% definite what will be available, our fingers are crossed!

Please check out the full tour dates for these bands below, and definitely check em out if they come to your town! Now, on to what's new in the webstore for this week ...

WHAT'S NEW FOR 3/15/2013:
http://www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog/products_new.php

As always, I'm going to try and keep this as short and sweet as possible! First up, we've got the two newest releases from Deranged - the brand new NEO CONS 7" and the new WILD CHILD 7" (and I JUST sold out of the WILD CHILD Demo 7", hoping to get more of those soon though!).  Normally I don't advertise colored / limited vinyl in the distro, but I got a handful of the new NEO CONS 7" on BLUE VINYL from Deranged - while it's a bit more than the black vinyl copies (which I also have), we figured this would be a little bit cheaper for all of you who wanted the limited but couldn't swing that pricey Canadian shipping. Hopefully we will be getting limited versions of future Deranged releases as well! I also grabbed a slew of killer singles including the TRAUMA Demo 7", the latest from HERATYS, the newest HOAX 7" (I only grabbed a few so scoop it up fast!), and more!

On the LP front, picked up the newest WAXAHATCHEE LP and newest LP from STEVE ADAMYK BAND (I also restocked on their First LP!); grabbed a handful of the new LP from Canada's VALLEY BOYS (featuring members of BRUTAL KNIGHTS, SCHOOL JERKS, and More!); I also came across some deadstock / out of print titles from Chicago's UNDERESTIMATED RECORDS including LPs from CORNERSTONE, FASTBREAK, OUTLAST, plus the NO REPLY 7" too (I also restocked on the STATE "All Wrong" LP and NO JUSTICE 7"!) ... some killer mid-late90's HC and at a nice price too so pick em up!

Grabbed a bunch of demos including tapes from Washington DC's BLOCKHEAD, Cleveland's WETBRAIN, Sweden's CORRECTION, and more! Also restocked on some gems, including the first HASSLER 7", BELGRADO 7", first two NO PROBLEM 7"s, BIG EYES "Hard Life" Tape, MANPIG LP, a few SPITS LPs, and more!

Full list is below, check it out and thanks for reading and your support. Stay tuned for more GM updates in the coming weeks!!!

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE 3/15/13:

NEO CONS "IDIOT CIRCUS" 7" (DERANGED)
Final release from these Bay Area bozos featuring six high energy hardcore-by-death stompers and their loudest, nastiest recording yet. If you haven’t caught em live, prepare for a sweaty mess of pig piles and manic stupidity. I have copies on limited BLUE VINYL!

WILD CHILD "S/T" 7" (DERANGED)
Best demo I heard in 2011 and here we finally have their debut record.  For those who heard the demo (Fashionable Idiots just released the demo on vinyl), this is more of the same chaotic hardcore. A more snarly DEEP WOUND?  Excellent.  (Deranged Records #218)

HOAX "SICK PUNK" 7" (LA VIDA ES UN MUS)
Released in time for their February/March European tour HOAX grace us with a new two song single. Both tracks are hard moshing anthems with a nasty destructive sound. Distorted to the max and with a blown out of control guitar this double A side single is a bass heavy yet catchy and memorable hardcore piece of rage.  The sleeve art designed by Heather Benjamin reflects perfectly the vibe on this release. Claustrophobic hardcore for non fitting punks. UK IMPORT!!!

TRAUMA "S/T" 7" (BULKHEAD)
Vinyl reissue/remaster of Trauma's hard-to-find and excellent demo! Scathingly fast hardcore that makes allusion to 80s Northern European classics (a la Crude SS and Mob 47) while still keeping a foot firmly planted in the good 'ol USofA. Trauma's line-up consists of a cast of savvy veterans (members of Tragedy, Final Warning, Longknife, Deathreat...etc...etc) and their collective experience is undeniable when heard pummeling through this batch of songs.

HERATYS "NAEN PUNAISTA" 7" (PRANK)
Sweden's HERATYS combine the overdrive of D-beat hardcore like TOTALITAR with the savage consonant-laden vocal attack of classic Finnish hardcore, topping this 7-song rampage with blazing guitar leads punctuated with searing quick solos. Featuring members of SCUMBRIGADE and SKITSYSTEM, HERATYS were a unique band in Swedish hardcore, singing entirely in Finnish. They wrote - and thankfully recorded- this final 7" before their unexpected breakup in 2012, as it's one of the most completely raging Scandinavian - or otherwise- hardcore records of recent note, reaching their most seamless combination of the influences that surfaced in their previous 12" and 4 song EP released in Europe. US pressing of this EP was mastered by George Horn with heavyweight vinyl in pocket sleeve with insert. European pressing on LA FAMILIA. Members now play in HARDA TILDER and INSTITUTION.

EFFLUXUS "DEVOID" 7" (PRANK)
Blasting noise edged "headache hardcore" from the SF Bay Area, EFFLUXUS mix caustic influences from blown out Japanese and chaotic European hardcore with their own straight ahead overdrive. Featuring former members of MORPHEME, YADOKAI, SANCTUM and DETONIZE, EFFLUXUS' debut Prank 4 song EP features their trademark harsh buzzsaw guitar distortion, Hauntingly echoing Shouted vocals and thundering drum attack. A raw explosion of Intensity, EFFLUXUS previously released a 12" on Seattle's RUST & MACHINE and have numerous DIY demos released worldwide. One of the strong forces of the current Bay Area DIY Scene, regularly organizing festivals, gigs and tours, EFFLUXUS will tour the west coast in May with Sweden's INFERNOH. Cover art by Guillem from DESTINO FINAL, Mastered by George horn with heavyweight vinyl in textured pocket sleeve with insert.

BROKEN PRAYER "WOW" 7" (NOT NORMAL)
In anticipation of their soon-to-be-legendary LP on Sorry State Records, Broken Prayer wished to release a single showcasing their pop classic WOW! When BP's frontman approached Not Normal about releasing it, he handed me two envelopes: one with the tracks and a short letter requesting that the purveyors of taste and slime Not Normal assist in releasing them and a second only to be opened if we declined said request. While I'm sure everything was on the up-and-up, I'm sincerely glad we agreed to release this one.

VEINS "S/T" 7" (YOUTH ATTACK)
Six expositions on our collective hopes and dreams succumbing to futility. For within the blanketing comfort of hopelessness lie new pathways towards examining our festering, rotting selves: as allegiances inevitably wither, emotions fade, and covenants shatter into endless reflections, all we have is to gaze hesitantly upon ourselves, the ravaged remains.

NO REPLY "S/T" 7" (MANKIND)
Deadstock copies of the debut EP from this now defunct Southern California hardcore band. No Reply led the pack in the "bandana thrash"/"skate punk" revival of the late '90s along with their brother band Lifes Halt. Features members of Knife Fight, Lifes Halt and The Suicide File.

IRON CHIC "SPLIT N SHIT" 7" (DEAD BROKE)
3 Songs from Iron Chic's two European 7 inches, including a bonus alternate cover song (PLOW UNITED!) Comes w/ download.

AWFUL MAN "WAITING FOR THE TANKS TO COME ROLLING IN" 7" (DEAD BROKE)
Brand new E.P. of that desperate, melodic, dirty pop-punk you crave. (from members of: Witches With Dicks, Closet Fairies, Fuddy Duddys, Brain Killer...) These Boston oi-boiz are back for more! (Comes w/ download)

REAL ENEMY "LIFE WITH THE ENEMY" LP (MIND CURE)
Hailing from Pittsburgh, PA Real Enemy staked their claim as the pioneers of Hardcore in the Three Rivers. After seeing The Necros, Faith and The Meatmen in Washington DC on March 6th 1983, and realizing that Hardcore had to come to their hometown Real Enemy formed and played their first show just 53 days later. Sharing stages with a veritable who’s who of 80’s American Punk bands – J.F.A., Husker Du, Youth Brigade, Toxic Reasons, Channel 3, The Necros among others – Real Enemy burned strong and fast, breaking up after barely 6 months as a band. Before half of the band reformed as Pittsburgh’s best known export of 80s Hardcore – Half Life – they left behind a legacy of one cassette, released on a newly minted label: Mind Cure Records. 30 years later Mind Cure (the label) is back with this restored and remastered version of “Life With the enemy” expanded to include live material recorded at CBGBs. Featuring original cover art and a poster sized fold-out insert packed with photos, flyers and extensive liner notes from Real Enemy and Half Life founding member and Gearhead Magazine and Records head honcho Mike LaVella.

VALLEY BOYS "S/T" LP (CUT THE CORD THAT)
New band of Jon Sharron (Brutal Knights, Career Suicide, Union Of Uranus and Chokehold, ha ha) with folks from School Jerks and Vapids.  In dedication to the stupidity of humanity: Cut the Cord That... Records presents the debut twelve inch extended play platter of the Valley Boys. Ten songs that convey the complete and utter disappointment, disillusionment, and distaste for social norms and the society that feeds your malnourished thought process. With all the love of a stillborn child and a hot glass of milk this record will penetrate a little solace to your otherwise mundane daily life. "Usually, when people say that they play something like "simple, no bullshit punk rock" it just sounds like boring ass bar rock. I always wish it sounded more like this Valley Boys tape that is blasting out of my stereo right now, because this shit sounds perfect. Equal parts Dead Boys, Supercharger and Problematics with tons of attitude and hooks galore ! Not one song is a sleeper or esembles anything close to bar rock. You want this !" - MRR

WAXAHATCHEE "CERULEAN SALT" LP (DON GIOVANNI)
On this new record, Crutchfield’s songs continue to be marked by her sharp, hooky songwriting; her striking voice and lyrics that simultaneously seem hyper-personal yet relentlessly relatable, teetering between endearingly nostaglic and depressingly dark. But whereas before the thematic focus of her songcraft was on break ups and passive-aggressive crushing, this record reflects on her family and Alabama upbringing. And whereas American Weekend was mostly just Crutchfield and her guitar, Cerulean Salt is occasionally amped up, with a full band and higher-fi production. At times, Cerulean Salt creeps closer to the sound of PS Eliot: moody, 90s-inspired rock backed by Keith Spencer and Swearin’ guitarist Kyle Gilbridge on drums and bass. The full band means fleshed-out fuzzy lead guitars on “Coast to Coast”, its poppy hook almost masking its dark lyrics. Big distorted guitars and deep steady drums mark songs like “Misery over Dispute” and “Waiting”. There’s plenty of American Weekend‘s instrospection and minimalism to be found, though. “Blue Pt. II” is stripped down, Crutchfield and her sister Alison (of Swearin’) singing in harmony with deadpan vox. She’s still an open booking, musing on self-doubt versus self-reliance, transience versus permanence. “Peace and Quiet” ebbs and flows from moody, minimal verses to a sing-song chorus. “Swan Dive” tackles nostalgia, transience, indifference, regret — over the a minimal strum of an electric-guitar, the picking at a chirpy riff and the double-time tapping of a muted drum. The album closes with a haunting acoustic-guitar reflection on “You’re Damaged,” possibly the best Waxahatchee song to date.

STEVE ADAMYK BAND "THIRD" LP (DIRTNAP)
BOOM! Canada's Capital City veteran punks The Steve Adamyk Band are back at it again, unleashing their third album, aptly titled, Third. The last two years have taken SAB on tour in Europe (twice), to SXSW (twice), Awesome Fest, Sled Island and beyond. Late 2011 saw the first line-up change, bringing Dave Forcier of Pregnancy Scares to the kit, along with Seb Godin of Sonic Avenues on bass into the mix, keeping Dave Williams active in the band with studio endeavors. The formula is the same as always; bringing a punk edge to classic power-pop, with help from a strong modern garage influence. You could call it aggressive pop-punk, keeping it tight and far from over-produced. The formula is simple - no one is trying to re-invent the wheel. With that said, they're staying clear of cheese and cliches. Third is the band's most solidified recording to date. Don't miss them coming to your town in 2013!

LSD "DISCOGRAPHY" LP (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
This ripping release combines recordings from Japanese greats L.S.D.’s Flexi 1984, Just Last EP, compilation & studio demo tracks, and a great sounding live set from Sapporo in 84.

HATRED SURGE / ENDLESS BLOCKADE - SPLIT LP (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
Toronto's The Endless Blockade start this split off with their own brand of crushing metallic powerviolence with shrieked vocals while Hatred Surge keep the tradition of gulf coast grind alive with a male and female vocal assault howled over powerful, thrashing hardcore.

V/A - TORONTO'S BURNING COMPILATION LP (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
This compilation captures some of Toronto, Canada's better and lesser-known hardcore, punk and metal bands circa 2009, including Urban Blight, Rammer, Dangerloves, The Reprobates, Living Darkness and Hazardous Waste and more.

ACCUSED "THE RETURN OF MARTHA SPLATTERHEAD" LP (UNREST)
Re-mastered and available on vinyl once again!!  Here is the first full-length masterpiece from the Kings of Splatter released on LP in 1986 by COMBAT. This classic has been out of print on LP for over 10 years and will now be available including lyrics.  This legendary release has influenced many bands around the world because of its fiercely original style. Martha is back!!

CRIMINAL CODE "COLD THOUGHT" LP (INCIMAL)
Within one year Criminal Code has released a demo, a 7", a Live on KEXP tape (all of which are now out of print), toured the West Coast with Big Crux and appeared on KBOO's Life During Wartime. Somehow they managed to fit in the recording of this 12" EP, and managed to make it their best effort yet. Now that the band has added another guitar and new drummer to their arsenal, they took their Husker Du/Greg Sage influences and made it their own unique sound. They are already planning another tour in Spring, and recording another 7”EP proving that the momentum of this band is relentless. Recorded at Buzz or Howl Studios. Artwork by FEEDING. Limited to 510 copies. No repress.

CRISIS "HYMNS OF FAITH" LP (LA VIDA ES UN MUS)
Hymns Of Faith' by Crisis is finally re-released after some thirty years and yet it seems like only yesterday that I bought it upon its release. For thirty years, I have championed Crisis, like some kind of leper in the musical wilderness. I still cannot believe that La Vida Es Un Mus finally heard me. Very few records deserve the tag of classic, but 'Hymns Of Faith' is a classic record! Recorded by a band that was in the throes of death, this mini-LP features seven tracks of political punk (although some would describe it as post punk, an insult of the worst kind), covering the political spectrum from the Italian Red Brigades to the Kanada Kommando of Auschwitz. The LP may have lacked the bite of the earlier singles, but 'Hymns' was innovative and original, and has never been bettered, yet alone equalled. Forget 'Killed By Death', this my friends is the real deal! After Crisis, Douglas P and Tony Wakeford formed Death In June and Luke Rendall joined Theatre Of Hate. Kneel and bow in reverence to 'Hymns Of Faith'!

CRIMINALS, THE "NEVER BEEN CAUGHT" LP (DEAD BROKE)
The Criminals' debut album, Never Been Caught, originally on LOOKOUT! RECORDS, now re-issued in all it’s punk rock glory & at home at Dead Broke! The album was recorded at Catbox Studios in Oakland, California in January 1997 and was engineered by Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day), and features cover art by Jesse Michaels (Operation Ivy). Originally existing from 1994-2000, The Criminals have reunited in 2012 to tear shit up. Trashy, grimey, menacing & poppy punk rock like no other than The Criminals. Members of: BLATZ, THE GR’UPS, ECONOCHRIST, THE FRISK & a million fucking more. Crime pays.

WIDE ANGLES "SMILE MORE" LP (DEAD BROKE)
Melodic, urgent, & rough around the edges Chicago punk rock! Achin' to Naked Raygun and Pegboy while maintaining a fucking melodic-ridden original blend of timeless Chicago punk. (Split release w/ Dirt Cult Records) 1st pressing: 500 pressed on Black vinyl.

YOUR PEST BAND "SMASH HITS!" LP (DEAD BROKE)
High-energy, lo-fi, Japanese garage punk rock that will kick the door down and drop yer’ jaw to the floor. Complete Singles collection on one 12" black vinyl LP. Includes both their 7” EP’s (Your Pest Vinyl EP & Ground Zero EP) as well as the split 7”s with The Miscasts, The Centerhits, Eine Kleine Chinmuzik, Holy Shit!, 3- way split w/ Defect Defect & Groaning Groove, 4-way Split 7” Vol. 3 (Dead Broke) & more! Split release w/ Snuffy Smiles Records (Japan). 400 Pressed.

STATE "ALL WRONG" LP (UNDERESTIMATED)
After putting out one of the best Midwestern hardcore 7"s in the early '80s and an LP soon after, Michigan's State broke up and stayed out of sight for many years. Fast forward to 2006 and the band have an LP that harkens back to that old 7", with 14 songs of speedy, pissed off hardcore punk with full-bore aggression and thumping rhythms.

OUTLAST "AS SURE AS I LIVE" LP (UNDERESTIMATED)
Killer posicore from Sweden! Unearthed some deadstock copies of this rager which came out in the late 90's/early 00's. I believe this is a collection of their 10" and maybe some 7"s too. I remember giving this many spins when I got my hands on it when it first came out, definitely recommended to all of you posi-core / youth crew aficionados!  Please note - these LPs are almost 15 years old, so while they aren't in mint / new condition (some minor wear on the cover and edges), DEFINITELY worth it for the price!

FASTBREAK "FAST CARS, FAST WOMEN" LP (UNDERESTIMATED)
Deadstock copies!  Spun this record again the first time in years the other day, and guess what ... it still holds up! Fastbreak started as a bunch of teenagers doing their best YOUTH OF TODAY impression, but this LP found them going a bit more melodic route, but just enough melody to keep it core (my best comparison would be later TURNING POINT). I think their second LP found them adding on even more melody heading towards the SAVES THE DAY route (I honestly don't know if I've ever heard that second LP), but FAST CARS FAST WOMEN I might say is almost an underrated LP for the era it which it came out.  Please note - these LPs are about 15 years old, so while they aren't in mint / new condition (some minor wear on the cover and edges), DEFINITELY worth it for the price!

CORNERSTONE "BEATING THE MASSES" LP (UNDERESTIMATED)
Deadstock copies! Here's another NEW ENGLAND STRAIGHT EDGE HARDCORE SMASHER from the mid 90's unearthed from the UNDERESTIMATED RECORDS vaults/basement/Anton's dungeon of vinyl and pain ... "Cornerstone was a 90's straight edge hardcore band from Connecticut. This is the band's only full length, Ernie from Token Entry did the artwork, and it's only barely over 14 minutes long. This just means that there are no filler tracks, so every song is a banger. Members went on to start Fastbreak. If you're a fan of youth crew, this is something you should check out." Please note - these LPs are close to 20 years old, so while they aren't in mint / new condition (some minor wear on the cover and edges), DEFINITELY worth it for the price!

CORRECTION - DEMO TAPE
This is a new demo from a straight edge hardcore punk band from Göteborg, Sweden. It's obvious this came from Scandi-land with the strong Mob47 vibes, but it also has the hooks of classic youth crew and the urgency/rawness of old Boston stuff. Lyrics have a very strong straight edge and political slant. One song, for example, rails against the right wing shift and slow de-socialization of the Swedish government with a hard preservative stance. This demo breaks all the rules, and that’s why I like it so much. Crust doggs and youth crew nerds, united as one.

BLOCKHEAD - DEMO TAPE
Killer skate punk/hc from DC featuring members of bands you might have heard of!

WETBRAIN - DEMO TAPE (CUT THE CORD THAT)
Wetbrain are from Cleveland and for sure these guys were in bands like H100s, Gordon Solie Motherfuckers, Inmates, Darvocets, Nine Shocks Terror, Annihilation Time, Midnight bla bla bla and play amazing hc/ punk. You can find all songs here: http://old-fast-and-loud.blogspot.de/2012/10/wetbrain-deeemo-2012-cleveland-oh.html

MENANITES - DEMO TAPE (NOT NORMAL)
Snotty, shitheaded punk from new NWI miscreants, Menanites. Takes equal cues from old KBD comps and the legions of Indiana Mutants that came before them. 11 track demo that features both Cher and Black Randy & the Metrosquad covers. Essential.

SIDE FX - DEMO TAPE (NOT NORMAL)
The new era of Indianapolis Hardcore is here. Side FX (ex-Picked Clean) has graciously bestowed upon us four tracks of snottified, Straight Ahead worship, the lead singer sounding off like some petulant child. The real deal.

LOW CULTURE "SCREENS" TAPE (DEAD BROKE)
Tape version of their debut LP on Dirtnap! Scrappy, melodic garagepunk from Las Cruces, NM. Members of The Marked Men and Shang-A-Lang! In late 2011, when it was clear that Shang-A-Lang was coming to an end, Chris asked Sam and Cade (of Total Jock) if they wanted to start a new band. Low Culture practiced a few times as a three-piece, but a few weeks later Joe (Marked Men/Shang-A-Lang) moved back to Las Cruces and joined the band. Low Culture’s first show was in early November 2011 was at Shang-A-Lang’s last show and the band's been moving full steam ahead ever since. With a few short regional trips and a tour of the Northeast and Canada with Iron Chic in support of their debut 7" under their belt, they're showing no signs of slowing down. A European tour is in the works for March of 2013 as well as many US dates as their work schedules will allow. Low Culture plays catchy garage punk that while not far removed from some of the members' previous projects, Shang-A-Lang, has a lot less emphasis on riffs and blown out recordings, and more emphasis on melody and crisp (while not necessarily “over-produced”) recordings. Produced by Mark Ryan (Marked Men/Mind Spiders) in Fort Worth, mastered by Dave Williams (Crusades, Steve Adamyk Band) in Ottawa. This is their debut LP, with the promise of more to come.

HA HA! Fanzine is finally here, compiling various writings from the last few years, many of which were originally intended for the oft-delayed and finally dead and buried Dead Possession #2.
