KREMLIN "Will You Feed Me?" 7" Out Now plus HUGE Webstore Update!

GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS / MAILORDER
LABEL AND WEBSTORE UPDATE - 6.21.13

It's been a little while since my last webstore update, so there is a ton of incredible new stuff here and I'll get to that shortly. First off, I've got a (semi) new release now available, a US pressing of the KREMLIN "Will You Feed Me?" 7"!  This Toronto band's debut EP, which came out last year on Germany's Hardware Records, is a total ripper and one that everyone should check out ... and with international shipping rates constantly on the rise, it seems harder and harder to keep "imports" in stock these days (and at an affordable price). With that, and the release of the band's "Drunk in the Gulag" LP which came out on Beach Impediment / Bad Vibrations Records a few months back, we felt that it was good idea to do a North American pressing of the 7" to get it onto as many turntables as possible over here in the US and Canada.

We've got a few on WHITE VINYL for mailorder, and you can stream the entire EP on the Grave Mistake Bandcamp!  We also restocked a few more copies of the KREMLIN LP as well so be sure to pick that one up if you haven't yet!

I'll be quick with my other label news, expect a full update next week though! First off, COKE BUST is currently one week into a two month tour that will take them all across the US and then to EUROPE, and you can check out all of those dates HERE.  We managed to get the band a few tour copies of their brand new "Confined" 12", so pick it up if you see them! That record will hopefully be officially out in early August (and possibly much sooner in Europe on Refuse Records).

In more recent news, we've got the NIGHT BIRDS "Born to Die in Suburbia" LP right around the corner! Release date is July 9th, and so far we are on schedule to have the record out around that time.  A lot of people have been asking when this record will go up for order/preorder ... at the moment I really can't say but I'm shooting to make it available for mailorder the first week of July (fingers crossed)!  I hope to have more info on that next week so stay tuned, in the meantime check out two tracks (Born to Die in Suburbia / Modern Morons) from the LP HERE.

The RED DONS "Notes on the Underground" 7" will also hopefully see the light of day late July / Early August BUT we've already got some tour copies for the band so check them out next month and grab one of the singles! You can check the tour dates over at the Red Dons Website and we will be posting a track from the single hopefully within the next week as well!

Finally ... my apologies to the wonderful BRAIN F≠ for completely forgetting to mention their upcoming "EMPTY SET" LP in last month's update (you know, the one where I told you about all of my upcoming releases EXCEPT for this one) ... whoops. But yes, the band's second LP is currently being mastered and will once again be a co-release with Sorry State Records. More info on that in the coming months, but the band has posted a rough track from the new LP over at their Bandcamp Page so check it out!

Enough label talk for now ... on to today's webstore update!!!!

http://www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog/products_new.php

I will note that some of these are probably in high demand and might sell out quick, so if you can't find it in the webstore when you finally read this, it might have sold out already. If so I apologize, some of these titles I could only get in limited quantities. Anyways, here's a brief summary - got some of the VIOLENT REACTION and HOUNDS OF HATE LPs from Painkiller, the new NOMAD LP, new KROMOSOM LP, new CREEM 7" and "Discography" LP (UK imports), BAD NOIDS LP, a handful of new stuff from Cowabunga including the TENEMENT and THE REPOS "Sick Club" 7"s, SICK/TIRED LP, the new TECHNICOLOR TEETH 7" and LP, the ripping GAS RAG 7"; finally nabbed some copies of the NIGHT BIRDS "Maimed for the Masses" 7", killer new 7" from the UK's STAB, US pressing of the VIOLENT REACTION 7", WARxGAMES 7", PUNCH IN THE FACE "Live on Radio K" LP, some copies of the LEATHERFACE "Mush" LP fanclub edition that was pressed up not too long ago, a bunch of awesome reissues from Radiation Records, some rad releases from Southpaw Records and Schizophrenic Records, and MUCH more... Also still some stuff from the last update, which I think got a bit overlooked including the recent WHITE LUNG and ALTERED BOYS 7"s on Deranged, the HOAX "Collection" LP, and new NAPALM RAID LP, to name a few.

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE FOR 06.20.13:

KREMLIN "WILL YOU FEED ME" 7" (GRAVE062)
US pressing of the debut 7" EP from Toronto's KREMLIN. Originally released in 2012 on Germany's Hardware Records, we decided it wouldn't hurt to press up a North American version to coincide with the release of the band's "Drunk in the Gulag" LP, released earlier this year on Beach Impediment / Bad Vibrations Records. This EP delivers five loud and chaotic rippers, combining influences ranging from UK/European hardcore to some good ol' USHC, with a hint of Japanese Noisecore thrown in ... it's fast, raw, and to the goddamn point! Newly remastered for maximum intensity! WHITE VINYL LTD. TO 200

NOMAD "S/T" LP (TOXIC STATE)
Brand new LP! NYC d-beat warriors Nomad return with their elite brand of ultra-distorted punk insanity in the vein of Confuse and Disorder. Sung in Japanese, Nomad brings the best single syllable sing-a-longs and fist pumping glory in all of the U.S.

HOUNDS OF HATE "S/T" LP (PAINKILLER)
Bradock PA's premier Straight Edge band return for 2013 with their debut lp, expanding the scope of their previous 7", and continuing their dignified retrofit of darker late 80's NYHC for the darker still 20-teens. Recorded by the band in their own rehearsal compound, these songs weave through the crooked landscape of modern day anomie, dehumanization, and personal betrayal the way In-Effect era Killing Time and Sick Of It All did before them.

VIOLENT REACTION "CITY STREETS" LP (PAINKILLER)
One-man army Tom Pimlott arrives direct from Liverpool, England with an lp that splits the difference between early 80's US and UK hardcore with the kind of seamlessness and taste that escapes most bands. Whereas the original X-Claim crew took the British Hardcore of the day and twisted it to fit their post Minor Threat, townie world view, Violent Reaction takes the X-Claim sound and injects a tasteful dash of '82 style British Hardcore. This might be the best record of this style to come from the UK since the first Voorhees lp.

KROMOSOM "NUCLEAR REICH" LP (DISTORT REALITY)
Newest LP from Melbourne, Australia Raw-punk/D-beat Punx! Latest installment of noise drenched hardcore power from these Australian Ragers, one of the best live hardcore bands anywhere, catch them if you can.

CREEM "DISCOGRAPHY" LP (STATIC SHOCK)
Released to co-incide with Creem's Summer 2013 European tour. This lp compiles their S/T 12" ep , the 'Good Riddance / I Hate You' 7" and the demo tape (all of Creem's released material up to the brand new 'Curator' ep.)  Infusing their beloved American hardcore with a smattering of punk virility from over the years, Creem is hard punk for hard punk fans. Remastered for vinyl by Will Killingsworth (Vaccine, Ampere, Orchid) and housed in all new artwork. This lp is a one time pressing of 518 copies. UK IMPORT!

HOAX "COLLECTED" LP (ADAGIO 830)
Buzz-saw guitars, bludgeoning drums, and breakdowns that scream "kiss me on my bloody head."  They are the defenders of true hardcore spite and genuine danger.  Mosh-heavy songs of empowerment and anger are forged using a degraded distillation of vintage Alan Blake-style riffing backed with driving, militaristic drums, and the feral anomie typically reserved for a vocalist like Mike IX Williams.  This LP compiles their 3 7" records and the song from their split 7" with sewn leather. EUROPEAN IMPORT.

BAD NOIDS "EVERYTHING FROM SOUP TO DESSERT" LP (KATORGA WORKS)
Clearly an unsavory product of the dilapidated industrial wasteland of Cleveland, Bad Noids make their official vinyl debut after a difficult-to-acquire bootleg 7". This record is a collection of older and newer songs, all rerecorded/recorded to caveman perfection in what is the defining document of Bad Noids, thus far. This is the new school of Clevocore. Comes with a 11"x14" full color poster courtesy of White Tony.

GAS RAG "HUMAN RIGHTS" 7" (BEACH IMPEDIMENT)
Chicago sex punks GAS RAG are back with six tracks of hardcore punk for the masses. Recorded during the same session that yielded the critically acclaimed 2013 demo, the “HUMAN RIGHTS” EP is sure to tickle the collective fancy of those who were stimulated by the aforementioned demo tape. Blending elements of D-Beat rock based music and a bit of their own Midwestern flavor, GAS RAG gives Earth's freaks the perfect summer soundtrack to go along nicely with their inhalants and/or any other substances that one would deem fit.

CREEM "CURATOR" 7" (STATIC SHOCK)
New York's Creem return in 2013 with a brand new 4 track ep. Keeping with their now trademark sound of Boston influenced hardcore punk with touches of UK82, there are now additional touches of Kings Of Punk-era Poison Idea in the mix, especially on the title track. Everyone who writes label release descriptions love dropping stuff like this, but this is honestly their strongest material yet. First press of 620 copies.

NIGHT BIRDS "MAIMED FOR THE MASSES" 7" (FAT WRECK)
Four song EP. The title track is your first bloody taste of their upcoming full length, Born To Die In Suburbia (Grave Mistake Records), while the B-side contains 3 rippers exclusive to this EP.

STAB "BLINDNESS AND LIES" 7" (QUALITY CONTROL)
Four London weirdos are back offering a third helping of HARDCORE UK style comprised of rhythmic diarrhea, the most explosive kind, with jugular rumbles topped with screaming banshee guitars. In your face lyrics centre around the topic of societal smoke and mirrors in honour of false Armageddons and occupy movements.  Vinyl comes housed in a 5 panel card sleeve. HARD EDGE. Artwork by Ben Fordree.

TENEMENT "SICK CLUB VOL. 3" 7" (COWABUNGA)
Here's the 3rd volume of the Sick Nick Club series which is by none other then the 3 wonder boys of Wisconsin, TENEMENT. 2 brand new tracks exclusive to this 7'' single- A side written by Jesse and the B side written by Amos. A side is a more traditional 1-2 foot tapping, catchy as hell Tenement standard where the B side is a very off kilter, poppy alt rock sort of track. Its totally a Tenement song, but its also a 1st for them in this style too. 1 time press of 500, housed in a hand assembled, full color glue pocket cover to boot!

REPOS, THE "SICK CLUB VOL. 4" 7" (COWABUNGA)
The 4th volume of the Sick Club series is filled by Chicago's own local legends THE REPOS. I feel by now I don't need to explain who this band is and what they sound like so know I am not going to. If you know and follow even just decent HC at all in the last so many years, you'd at least just know who this band is. After breaking up in 2008, but re-emerging in late 2010 as a new band called THE ROPES, the band quietly released some demos and a 7'' upon the world. Come sometime in later 2012, the band name 'THE ROPES' was already taken by some crap band from Rhode Island who of course threatened legal action since they couldn't cut it themselves and were too ego struck to let it be taken, so the guys went back to using the old REPOS moniker once more. These are 2, brand new EXCLUSIVE tracks on this Sick Nick Club 7'' aka 'Armed and Using' and 'Hole In the Hill', and like the others in the series a 1 time press of 500 copies with no repress, records are nestled in a hand assembled glue pocket cover too designed by Chicago art stalwart Ryan Lowry.

DEATH AFTER DECAY "SYSTEM FUCKING BASTARDS" 7" (COWABUNGA)
The newest output from this Hammond,Indiana anarchist HC punk band. Musically, this record is more PUNK and a little less rockin' then the 1st one but still what I call a 'traditional DxAxDx record'. If I had to make comparisons, I'd say this one where a generic description is still apt- Varukers and Discharge crossed w early Inepsy, GBH, Guns N Roses, Burning Spirits style Japanese HC and Violent Society with slight midwestern flair.

TECHNICOLOR TEETH "SAGE" 7" (COWABUNGA)
I knew my boy Amos had drummed in bands such as Paul Collins Beat and Chinese Telephones to name but a few. Then apart from his freakishly godlike guitar skills he showcases in his certain 3 piece band by the name of Tenement, that he remains more of a drummer.  TT released a tape only album 'Teenage Pagans' in 2012 (may or may not see its vinyl treatment via Houseplant in 2013?) on Lets Pretend based out of Bloomington, Indiana (and home to Paul Mahern!). I had seen the band in 2011 at a Bored Straight/Leather show and fell in love there, but it wasn't until I obtained the cassette album that I had asked to do a record then knowing these guys had done something of a release. These 3 Wisconsin lads play a great shoegaze/DIY indie rock hybrid but its also very catchy, not just mired in 'dreamy' territory like most bands of the genre and thankfully done very PUNK. I mean, you can probably gather something what they sound like just from those explanatory words I imagine so I'll leave that there. Each 1 of the 3 members wrote a song here on this 3 song EP too, where each has a different feel to it which makes it so much better.

VIOLENT REACTION "S/T" 7" (MINDROT)
US Pressing!! Following a promising demo last year, Liverpool's Violent Reaction finally release their debut 7" ep. Six tracks of undiluted hardcore punk that are more influenced by Discharge, Poison Idea, Out Cold and Blitz than the likes of Youth Of Today, VR is for those who like their straight edge hardcore a little more antisocial.Originally started as a one man project by Tom Pimlott (Sectarian Violence, Nowhere Fast), VR is now playing live with members of Stab and Abolition backing him up.

WARXGAMES "9 TRAX/NO NIGHTMARE" 7" (REACT)
The darker, dirtier, weirder older brother of the Baltimore Straight Edge makes its debut on REACT! with 9 raw and raging blasts of hardcore psychosis slammed wall to wall into a 7"EP. Featuring members of MINDSET, DEEP SLEEP,OAK and THE PIST (among others), WARXGAMES pulls from all corners of the hardcorepunkmetal universe and meets not necessarily in the middle, but somewhere else entirely Straight Edge. For fans of Infest, The Abused, Brotherhood and MDHC Legends VOID.

BORN WRONG "S/T" 7" (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
BORN WRONG turns out four new tracks reminiscent of early DC hardcore with a modern punch. They hail from Hamilton, Canada (not Toronto). Aggressive vocals, gritty tone, caveman drumming. Hating cops and spitting in your face. Watch out for these guys touring the East Coast U.S. in May.

TV FREAKS "S/T" 7" (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
The TV FREAKS listen to a lot of Australian punk, and that ranges from new upstarts – EDDY CURRENT SUPRESSION RING to the classic, killed by death, bank account drainer they take their namesake from. And just like Victims, Hamilton’s TV FREAKS are busting at the seams with energy and spit. TV FREAKS do a great job of taking some classic and modern influences to come up with their own unique and fresh sound. This is pure punk rock that looks better in blood on a guitar than spray painted on a leather jacket and I’m sure if the gods of good taste get off their asses you’ll see both.

1981 "IN THE DEAD OF THE NIGHT" 7" (STONEHENGE)
Brand new 4 track Ep by Finnish 1981. More clasic anarcho punk which is hard to belive isn't from the golden era of CRASS, FLUX etc

CLARITY "UNSTOPPABLE" 7" (NEGATIVE SPLIT)
The latest musical effort from this Seattle straight edge outfit. Drawing sonic influence from the likes of Right Brigade and Carry On, Clarity forge five introspective and urgent hardcore jams in a style that is all their own. Northwest credentials include members from Not Sorry, Vanguard, and the Answer.  Vinyl includes a digital download code.

FRIENDS OF CESAR ROMERO "RED HEADED STRANGER" 7" (SNAPPY LITTLE NUMBERS)
With the shake of a tambourine and a quake of the pelvis, the pop-art garage-punks known as the Friends Of Cesar Romero have crash-landed. Featuring members of such hook-infused outfits as The Reddmen, Mandingo, and Stereotyperider, FOCR have devolved the electric-guitar beat-combo into a thing of pants-shitting Neanderthal beauty. Pounding, menacing, snarling, and unaccustomed to our flowery futuristic bullshit, the gang’s anthemic, King Kahn-esque, Saturday-morning-cartoonish onslaught is ready to biff-bang-pow its way into your heart. And/or crotch.

EMPTY PALACE  "S/T" 7" (SNAPPY LITTLE NUMBERS)
Some say Judas Priest lost their metal-lovin’ minds when they decided to let synthesizers seep into their sound circa 1985’s Turbo. Empty Palace could not care less. The Los Angeles outfit takes classic metal songcraft, NWOBHM bombast, and the chiseled precision of Reagan (Thatcher?) Era stadium rock—then they ram it down your unsuspecting throat. But frontman Patrick Houston and drummer Jason Walker (formerly of Denver legends Brainhammer and Angels Never Answer, among sundry other acts of sonic tomfoolery) don’t stop there. Lo and behold, the group’s debut EP blends the mythopoeic majesty of ’80s Blue Öyster Cult—yeah, the new-wave sounding stuff that’s way, way better than you remember—with melody, dynamism, and even hints of balladry. Like the iron fist of an android knight, it pummels with the single-minded purity of deathless life. Call it turbo-injected, if you wish.

YOUNG LOVERS, THE "4/4 KICK" 7" (SOUTHPAW)
Hot on the heels of his latest LP "Rock Flawless" Brontez Purnell and Co. blast us with 3 more pop tunes that make you want to shake your ass through the night. Get with it now because Younger Lovers will be taking over in 2012. Debut Southpaw LP coming soon.

ESTROGEN HIGHS "FOR ALL I KNOW" 7" (SOUTHPAW)
Estrogen Highs peaked a lot of interest recently with their sophmore LP "Friends and Relatives" and this four song EP quickly follows that up. This release much like their recent LP brings to mind a wide variety of influnces including The Wipers, Guided By Voices, and Kiwi-style pop. A new LP coming on Chicago's Trouble In Mind later this year. Limited to 300 copies!

HACKMORE BRICK "OH! THOSE SWEET BANANAS" 7" (UGLY POP)
Hackamore Brick's sole 1970 LP on Kama Sutra remains a much-desired artifact of its era, a primordial expression of seminal proto-punk and early Velvets worship. While there are several great tracks on the LP, it's long been my opinion that Oh! Those Sweet Bananas was criminally over-looked and should really have been a 45 from the start. One of the great lost songs of the period, it's a quick, catchy and instantly addictive burst of NYC garage punk pop at the dawn of the '70s. The flip is a beautiful and memorable slow-burner, and a different take to that on the LP. A slight change of pace for Ugly Pop, but a long-time favourite that anyone with good taste will appreciate. New picture sleeve, one-time-only pressing of 500 copies.

NO MISTAKE "CONNECT THE DOTS" 7" (REFUSE)
Once upon a time hardcore had no metal influence. It was as poppy as homicide. Great dinosaurs roamed the earth with names like SSD, YDI, Jerry's Kids, Negative Approach, and so on. You could honestly feel the bands were actually straining themselves terribly if the song made it to TWO WHOLE MINUTES?!?!?!?! This sounds EXACTLY like that. You aren’t going to make guitar poses, fall in love, dance in a quirky cute manner. Yer gonna SLAM and yer gonna dig it. Good production, straight ahead attack hard core, just like your mamma used to cook up. Featuring members of GO! NYHC, In Disgust and Permanent Ruin.

FULL SUN "STAY AWAKE" 7" (LET'S PRETEND)
"Jeff Grant’s solo project. Like the last Pink Razors LP, things are slowed down to accentuate songwriting chops. Results are like a ‘80s teen movie montage recorded at home. Think sunny, Future Virgins, power pop-inflected pop punk, Exploding Hearts vocals, and some Superchunk thrown in. Full Sun? How about Full length! Keep it coming, Jeff." -RAZORCAKE

TEROKAL "LIFE AFTER WAR" 7" (DISTORT REALITY)
PDX Spanish-language hardcore likened to a Latin Totalitar, with ex-members of Hellshock on board.

LIFEFORM "CREEPY CRAWLY" 7" (DISTORT REALITY)
"Debut EP from LIfe Form out of Portland, OR, great noize punk with vicious vocals, hyper fuzzed guitar & bouncy bass. After a very well received demo tape, this EP is fucking great. Highly recommended!"

GASMASK TERROR "17101961" 7" (SPHC)
Gasmask Terror are a d-beat band that crafts their riffs and songs more finely than their distortion pedals. Over time, they've come to master the Totalitar/No Security-idea of playing d-beat. This record, along with the Black Sun/Fake Gold LP and Like Daggers EP before it, is proof enough of that. In a world of hyped "noise not music" sloganeering (of which I am proudly a part of), it's refreshing to hear a band that doesn't include any members of Totalitar tackle this style.

SUN CHILDREN SUN "S/T" 7" (SPHC)
Describing this record is tough. The obvious starting point is Vi-Vi Punx, but that's an awfully obscure reference. I normally sum it up as "the shit-fi remix of the last Paintbox album", but that doesn't quite do it justice. Perhaps you could say "Naked City lounging around at a beach, sipping iced tea and taking in a nice sunshiny day", but, I dunno, what does that even mean? Sun Children Sun on these recordings is a rudimentary, minimalist, and eclectic mix of fast hardcore, ska, reggae, and pop-punk. Genius in its uncompromising disregard for style, formula, or expectations, to create a totally wild and unique experience. Overflowing with positive attitude and charisma, shining brightly with fun-loving energy. An irresistible record. Cool and forward-thinking punk music like this always reminds me of all the reasons why I wanted to release records in the first place.

BILL BONDSMEN "PEASANT UNDER GLASS" 7" (BILL BONDSMEN)
"Those of you who have picked up the Bondsmen's past two singles are no doubt stoked to see another one. For those of you who aren't hip, let me inform you that Detroit's Bill Bondsmen have quietly been becoming one of the most exciting punk bands in the world, releasing these limited-run, self-released singles with sloppily-screened covers. The band have some older material that I didn't care for very much, but what they've put out on these self-released singles is absolute gold... genre-busting weirdo hardcore that sounds like Die Kreuzen and the Germs had writing, diseased baby who grew up to steal Greg Sage's chorus pedal. This new single is without a doubt the best of the bunch... seriously, these two songs are so ragingly weird, catchy and awesome... there are no words. GET THIS! Self-released" - sorrystaterecords.com

PLEASURE LEFTISTS "S/T" 7" (KATORGA WORKS)
In a 2012 music universe over-saturated with post-punk zombies, Cleveland's Pleasure Leftists have forged a sound all their own. Their 2011 debut EP on Fan Death established the band as a contender in the world of gloomy thumping, but they are set apart by an aggressive rhythm section and haunting incantations that can only be characterized as an ecstatic celebration of the human voice. This 7" features two new songs that push the limits of a doomsday worldview's pop sensitivity. Ex-9 Shocks Terror

CAT PARTY "A THOUSAND SHADES OF GREY" 7" (RESSURECTION)
"A Thousand Shades Of Grey" was recorded in Santa Ana, California in the spring of 2012 by Noel Paris. This record has a more intense and spacier feel than previous Cat Party records. The title track is classic Cat Party post-punk while the B-side gets much darker than any of the bands previous recordings especially on the closing track titled "Loves Benign." Three songs on this 7", 500 pressed on random colored vinyl. The boys claim this may be the last one but we'll see if that becomes the case. All copies include digital download.

HONEY BADGERS "CRAB DUDES" 7" (RESSURECTION)
Ultra catchy surf influenced garage punk from Buena Park, California. Recorded Summer 2012 in Costa Mesa, California. Features members The Meka Leka Hi's & members of the now defunct Street Trash, The Shadowmen, & Cobwebs. This E.P. is self released by the band

PRIMITIVE HEARTS "HIGH AND TIGHT" 7" (RESSURECTION)
SF garage punk / powerpop. ultra catchy riffs, amazing vocals. + Digital download. Self released by the band's No Rules Records.

UNRULED "TIME IS RUNNING OUT" 7" (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
Schizophrenic Records is pleased to celebrate 30 years of the UNRULED by re-releasing the band’s debut 7′ from 1984. Time Is Running Out 7″ captures the band and their blend of Canadian and Bristish Punk sounds at their prime. Well before DIS became a prefix these Canadian punks were thrashing, bashing and fighting against the System. Includes Clear the Pigs out which was recorded during the same 7″ session and has been unreleased for 30 years. Catch the newly reformed UNRULED as they invade a town near you. Buy this 7″ and don’t give up the fight – the UNRULED haven’t!!

OUT COLD / BILL BONDSMEN - SPLIT 7" (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
This 7″ sounds like it could have been recorded in some fucko’s basement in Maumee, Ohio in 1983. Out Cold treat us to three new tracks that have their patent, no holds barred 1981-style Massachusetts hardcore, tainted with the early sounds of the Mid West. If that isn’t a geographic train wreck why the hell are you still buying punk rock records in 2007? Bill Bondsmen compliment the driving sounds of Out Cold with two new tracks kicking their 1980′s retro hardcore sound. One of these is a ripping tribute to the pioneers of the Japanese HC scene. This wax is so tough it busted the metal stamper 800 copies into the pressing.

SICK/TIRED "KING OF DIRT" LP (COWABUNGA)
The LP finally sees the light of day.  Still playing tight and well executed fast grindcore with 80's thrash, doom, death metal and punk elements interwoven into the mix. Yet with all the posi print they get despite being a hard working band they're still so underrated, maybe due to the fact they're hindered due to work not allowing em' to tour a whole lot. It'd be nice to see that change with the release of this LP, which is without a doubt the best release these guys have to date easily and to be so bold one of the best grind albums of 2013. This will also come with a bonus poster insert made by Kirk and Adam J, double sided and perfect quality. This also is the debut record of new vocalist Adam Jennings, whom you may know best from Winters In Osaka. Adam's brutal vocals devestate on this more lo fi but still shining recording and the fact that Robert quit the band which at the time was a downer, was almost a 'godsend' seeing they got Adam to replace him and not slow down a thing.

PUNCH IN THE FACE "LIVE ON RADIO K" LP (COUNTERFEIT GARBAGE)
This LP features a live radio set and the PITF demo on the flipside!  "Punch in the Face was a Chicago super group of sorts that only recently broke up. They released a couple of 7inches, an LP, and various tracks on various compilations. Their sound falls somewhere between early Boston hardcore and Poison Idea. This radio session specifically falls in between their two early 7inches, S/T and Dumb Hardcore, and the LP, At War With Everybody. Therefore, you get a mix of the early faster songs, a couple of the compilation songs, and the slower, groovier LP songs. In fact, since this was three years before the LP, some of those tracks have different names. Neat! I really don't know what else to say about how pivotal this band was for me, in the respect of getting me into some of the more obscure older USHC bands, but that they are truly missed by the Chicago hardcore punk community." - http://landscapeofdust.blogspot.com

LEATHERFACE "MUSH" LP (FANCLUB)
Uhhh ... one of the greatest LPs ever made. Fanclub pressing rumored to have been commissioned by the band. Classic classic classic ... if you can't track down an original, this will hold you over. If you aren't familiar with LEATHERFACE, then this is the perfect starting point because it is, in fact, a perfect record.

MAJOR ACCIDENT "MASSACRED MELODIES" LP (RADIATION)
Started in late 1977 in Darlington, UK, after Con Larkin and his little brother Paul tried their hands at bass and singing respectively, legendary punkers Major Accident were initially influenced by the Pistols and the Clash. They toured the UK extensively before going to the studio, adding more originals to their set as time went on. However, a very sad fate befell their early studio activities: both their first recording session in 1980, which was supposed to be their debut single ("Terrorist Gang"/"War Boots") and the following one, which produced a completely mucked-up, unusable first edition of this LP, remained unreleased for years. It took until late 1982 for their first proper release to see the light of day: produced by Donkeys guitarist Neil Ferguson, their debut album "Massacred Melodies" finally came out on Step Forward, supported by a full UK tour with label-mates CHELSEA. The distinctive 'Clockwork Orange' image (they were the first punk band to adopt the look from Kubrick's famous movie, which was banned in the UK at the time and impossible-to-see anywhere) and their songwriting, by far more peculiar than the average UK82 punk band, allowed them to grow a sizeable following, and their classic sleeve artwork by Paul Dillon started appearing on the back of more than a few black leather jackets.

BLITZ "TIME BOMB (EARLY SINGLES COLLECTION)" LP (RADIATION)
A pure shot of abrasive punk/rock 'n' roll with a hint of working class Oi!, Blitz were among the most influential punk bands ever. It was Gary Bushell (who wrote for "Sounds" and was later dubbed the God Father of Oi!) who brought the band to the attention of his friend Chris Berry, who had just set up No Future records with a bank loan and high hopes. No Future 001 catalog (and Blitz's debut release) was a 4 track EP titled "All Out Attack", a 20,000 copy bestseller that made the label's fortune, later to become the most representative of the whole UK82 movement. Its follow-up, "Never Surrender", reached number 2 in the Indie charts, while their 3rd EP, "Warriors", showed their slight move towards the singalong-style of classic OI!. Before shifting to a more new wave-influenced vein right by the end of 1983, they managed to reach number 2 in the charts with a fourth and last 'punk' single, "New Age". This 1980-1983 complete retrospective features all four aforementioned singles along with their very first recording session from 1980, the legendary 'Timebomb' demos, and 4 cuts from the "Voice Of A Generation" demos!

OLHO SECO "OLHO POR OLHO" LP (RADIATION)
The first and only full length LP by Sao Paulo punk legends Olho Seco, released in 1989 and never reissued since then. The fury of their early 80's singles has gone, leaving room for a more technical approach, somewhat akin to what Ratos De Porao were doing at the time. A nice little masterpiece in political punk, and one of Jello Biafra's personal faves!

ROUGH "INDELEBILE" LP (RADIATION)
Rough should be in Guinness for being on the first independent real punk record outta Italy. Torino early 80’s, four buddies shared their love for punk & oi! in Rough, a seminal band that lasted a very few years in two different waves & singers. This lp combines all their studio stuff and few rehearsal tx unreleased. If you need some heavy iron boots kicks in your mouth, this could be your chance.

BARE WIRES "IDLE DREAMS" LP (SOUTHPAW)
Front man Matthew Melton of Bare Wires seemed to care about two things; writing hook heavy garage songs and taking these songs on the road every chance he could get. Whether he was touring the U.S. with Thee Oh Sees, opening for Mark Sultan in Europe, or playing a house show somewhere inbetween, the band just never stopped. Yet, after spending the last three years being the uncontested kings of the road, Bare Wires are dead. The Oakland staple crumbled during SXSW this year. After failed performances one member ended up hospitalized and another MIA. Melton packed up the van and headed home, knowing that Bare Wires had run its course. From the ruins of this tour comes the last Bare Wires record. The album unintentionally takes us through the Bare Wires timeline. Melton’s influences unfold from his early worship of Stooges/Gories to the later imprints of Glam/Power Pop-heavy records recalling T-Rex and Gary Glitter. Although it may not have been evident while churning out these final bittersweet songs that this would be the end of Bare Wires. Melton certainly made it count. From the ashes of Bare Wires comes Melton’s final masterpiece, Idle Dreams. Includes digital download code.

HUSSY, THE "PAGAN HISS" LP (SOUTHPAW)
14 tracks of pungent and poignant psych-punk/trash-art that twists the limits of both punk and pop music. The Hussy’s third LP, and their first for Southpaw Records. The Hussy seamlessly crafts a smart and catchy record that’s full of dark depth. Bobby Hussy’s engineering ensures the new record stays true to The Hussy’s vision of a crafted and produced recording that still has firm lo-fi roots. “Mid-fi” sums it up best. Guest appearances by Jordan Davis (of The Mystery Girls fame) on organ, Dead Luke (Moon Glyph and Sacred Bones recording artist, Ex Pink Reason member) on guitar and recorder and Justin Aten on violin. The band is embarking on a month-long European tour in May, and they will be touring both coasts of the United States in Summer 2013. Includes Digital download

YOUNG GUV AND THE SCUZZ "A LOVE TOO STRONG" LP (SOUTHPAW)
Young Governor began as a solo outlet for Fucked Up guitarist Ben Cook. Since 2009 Cook has released 11 singles along with two EPs, (a prolific side project for a guy who is already in a full time band). While each release has varied in style and sound they all carried that same intensity and pop sensibility. On Young Guv’s new 12” on Oakland, CA label Southpaw, Cook enters a legit studio for the first time and brought with him some of the best musicians Toronto has to offer. Recorded and mixed by Steve Chahley, Canada's hidden gem engineer and mixer and "nicest man on planet earth" according to Cook. The intention was to make a high fidelity pop record with heavy influences from Guided By Voices, Tom Petty, and The Replacements. After one spin, no one could argue, Cook has unleashed his pop masterpiece onto the world.

USELESS EATERS "C'EST BON!" LP (SOUTHPAW)
C'est Bon! is 12 songs full of the same killer hooks you have grown to expect with heavy KBD and Devo influence. This time around, Seth Sutton gets a little darker and even throws in a couple instrumental tracks that make this a true masterpiece.

TY SEGALL "LIVE IN AISLE 5" LP (SOUTHPAW)
In the summer of 2010 TY SEGALL played to a sold out crowd in San Francisco at the Southpaw one year anniversary party. Live in Aisle Five captures Ty in an amazing live set and includes 11 classic Ty songs and two killer cover songs! All recorded by ERIC BAUER who was also behind the desk for many of Ty's studio albums including Melted

RED HARE "NITES OF MIDNIGHT" LP (DISCHORD)
Red Hare is a new group featuring Shawn Brown, Jason Farrell, and Dave Eight - all formerly of Swiz and Sweetbelly Freakdown - and drummer Joe Gorelick (Garden Variety, Bluetip, Retisonic). The band's eight-song debut, Nites of Midnite was mixed by J. Robbins at Magpie Cage studio in Baltimore, Maryland.

CENTER OF THE SUN "MACHINE GUN" LP (SELF AWARE)
Center of the Sun is an amazing new Charlotte, NC band featuring members of bands that you already love. Do you like shoegaze, dreampop, slowcore, or whatever the kids are calling it nowadays?  Imagine if someone took elements of My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive and mixed them with Mineral, Hum and then lastly topped it off with a sheen of the Cranberries. Sounds awesome doesn't it?

TECHNICOLOR TEETH "TEENAGE PAGANS" LP (HOUSEPLANT)
"Members of Tenement & ex-Harlequin Kid making some noisy syrupy sounding shoegaze/psych inspired tunes here. These gents from Appleton, WI must be some busy folks as it seems I’m always seeing notifications on Facebook or whatever for shows of different bands that feature members of Tenement. The combination of styles on Teenage Pagans seems so obvious, but it’s a wonder why more bands don’t necessarily head in this direction. Instead of drifting into full blown MBV worship like most, the guys of Technicolor Teeth take the 90’s indie-rock and pop/punk elements of the other projects they’ve spent time in and work it into a wonderfully loud blend of noise and melody. It rides a fine line between the woozy and fuzz laden noise of the heyday of shoegaze and the sort of pop/punk song craft that makes a band like Tenement so enticing and well…fun. Occasionally the band will settle into a nice murky, and somewhat grungy, sludge like sound that certainly has traces of grime to it, but they seem to have their hands in many different areas.  One main thing that I’ve come to really appreciate about Teenage Pagans is the way that the band shies away from sticking with or getting sucked into riding a particular riff for terribly long. One of the biggest downfalls I find with most shoegaze revivalist groups is that they are mostly a one trick pony and that ten songs of hearing the same damn thing over and over again is somehow interesting. Technicolor Teeth seem to be fully aware of these potential pitfalls and steer clear by doing incredibly well in mixing things up, managing to apply the sugary textures when necessary to keep a general style here, but willing to risk it by trying something a bit different from track to track. Most the tunes are short and sweet, but generally pack a number of surprises along the way. Absolutely amped to hear what these guys do in the future." - builtonaweakspot.com

SETE STAR SEPT/NOISE - SPLIT 10" (SPHC)
This is probably the most heinous, fucked up, nonsensical racket of a record that I will release…until I drop the Ruidos Absurdos collection 7”. Only for the most true grind freaks and noise fiends. Sete Star Sept are the best Japanese grind band around, if not the best grind band in the entire world. This recording sees them applying their usual free-grindcore style through a lens of Seven Minutes of Nausea and 90's Spanish noisecore influences. Total shitnoise production that makes you wonder how/why/just what the fuck is going on anyway.  If there was ever a band to challenge the grind supremacy of Sete Star Sept, it’d be Noise, the legendary hyper-political Brazilian grind unit, going over 20 years strong now. These recordings are exactly what you’ve come to know and love from this band: a non-stop barrage of raging grind blasts, a total noise assault to destroy the world capitalist system and give people headaches. A flawless victory for our side in the campaign for musical destruction.

TV FREAKS "S/T" LP (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
Ex members of ROCKET REDUCERS and BURNING LOVE combine forces to lay down blown out garage infected Punk to the TV FREAKS vinyl debut. Mixing elements of KBD and the catchiness of early Hamilton Punk bands like TEENAGE HEAD and THE FORGOTTEN REBELS, TV FREAKS explode with a party mix of melody, snottiness and nudity that will stick with you. Proving they can bring the fun anywhere, this LP was recorded on analog equipment in a wicked old barn!

V/A - "DESTROY MUSIC, START YOUR OWN BAND" COMP LP (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
This release is scene snapshot delivering a cross section of current independent punk and hardcore bands from the Hamilton, Ontario, Canada area. The comp comes with a 12 page booklet and an full colour insert courtesy of The Spooky Astronauts Drawing Club. All tracks on the LP are exclusive to the comp (less one track from HAYMAKER that’s making its debut on vinyl). Defend Hamilton/Eat Shit

YOUNG LIONS "FROM THE VAULTS 1982-84" LP (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
Fans of early Canadian punk and hardcore rejoice! Unreleased and lost gems are brought together on a beauty piece of wax, well two actually. For those of you not aware this influential Toronto band rocked the early 80s scene with their street punk influenced socially aware hardcore music. Imagine if the Canadian SUBHUMANS and THE CLASH fucked in the skanky bathroom of the Edgewater Hotel in 1980. If you don’t remember the band or know of their legacy, you may have grown up watching SCTV and know who the Queenhaters are from an episode of ‘Mel’s Rock Pile’. Guess who wrote the music for ‘I Hate The Bloody Queen’? That’s right TYL did!

FRATRICIDE "S/T" LP (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
Schizophrenic is thrilled to release this molten slab of crossover hardcore. Originally planned as a split LP with Neuroot; Pushead deemed it unsafe to release this killer piece of vinyl to the public. Only a few folks with special Pushead clearance were provided with a test press. After many years the Fratricide side of the LP has FINALLY been released.

SONS OF ISHMAEL "HAYSEED HARDCORE" LP (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
Their Hayseed Hardcore 7” was immortalized in Pushead’s top 100 hardcore releases of the 80’s. Tucked away at #76 safely wedged between MASS APPEAL and RATTUS, SONS OF ISHMAEL were often compared to early D.R.I. with a rabid mix of early LARM and WRETCHED. Yes, that is a lot of power and speed thrown onto a 7” platter. Schizophrenic Records is proud to release the Hayseed Hardcore 12” which includes the full 7” as well as several compilation recordings by the original Meaford, Ontario lineup. 25 years later this record remains full of energy, drive and small town teenage angst. The release includes a band biography and insert containing original artwork and lyrics. Limited to 800 copies.

UNRULED "BUTCHERS OF WARFARE" LP (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
Awesome 80s d-beat infused HC from Montreal’s legendary UNRULED, reformed with Chany and Sam from Inepsy. It totally rips.

MEKA LEKA HI'S, THE "S/T" LP (RESSURECTION)
The Meka Leka Hi's are a three piece garage/surf punk band that has playing around the southern California area for over 4 years and has built up quite a following. The band is heavily influenced by Link Wray's guitar style and The Dead Milkmen's goofy way of writing catchy songs. This album was recorded in September 2012 and was mastered & recorded by Ryan Foster of Honey Badgers. The band self released this album and assembled it completely by themselves: all the way from recording the music, to the artwork, and even getting the vinyl pressed through their local pressing plant. Excellent looking packaging, and each copy includes a full 12 track digital download coupon. Distributed worldwide by Resurrection Records!

CRAZY AND THE BRAINS "LET ME GO" LP (BALDY LONGHAIR)
New Jersey poppy garage punk four-piece that even the most cynical hard line punker will find themselves tapping their toes to.  Influences range from pop choruses of THE RAMONES to lyrical flows of THE BEASTIE BOYS to experimentation of THE CLASH.  Lyrics littered with pop-culture references and tales of failed relationships, fights, and junk food.  Features guest vocals by ADAM GREEN of THE MOLDY PEACHES. For fans of THE DEAD MILKMEN, THE BLACK LIPS, NOBUNNY, xylophones, and awesomely bad New Jersey accents. Colored Vinyl. Download code included.

LEBAKKO "POPKORNIKAUPPA" 12" (MUTANT)
"Debut 12" from this Finnish punk band. When I heard about this release from the label it was presented to me as "Suomi punk in between Lama and Ratsia" and it had a link to a BandCamp site. I listened to the song and my first thought was "that description doesn't make any sense, but this is awesome anyway." So what DOES this sound like? I'm really hard-pressed for any quick and easy band comparisons... the music is super complex, but very catchy and even melodic. I'd be willing to bet that Everything Falls Apart-era Husker Du is an influence, but by no means the only one. Honestly, I can see this band as working in a similar vein to fellow contemporary Finns like Kykloppien Sukupputto or Sokea Piste, but whereas those bands play gnarly hardcore, Lebakko is playing catchier punk, but with the same density of sound and a similar spirit of weirdness and originality. At the end of the day, though, this is a fantastic punk LP that really sounds like NOTHING else. Really fantastic." - sorrystaterecords.com

PESADILLA DISTOPIKA - DEMO TAPE
"PESADILLA DISTOPIKA is a new band from southern California with Spanish vocals. This is fast ferocious hardcore punk in the vein of GLAM or INVASION with a bit of an old school Japanese touch, especially in the track... Demo was recorded in April 2013 and delivers 5 tracks in about 6 minutes." - NOCONFORMO

BROOD, THE - DEMO TAPE
THE BROOD had members of LOST CAUSE, STATIONS, ENDLESS NIGHTMARE, and WITCH HUNT. Hailing from Philadelphia, we play hardcore punk with POISON IDEA, UK82, and Scandinavian punk as some of their influences.

DEMANDS - DEMO TAPE
Washington DC fast hardcore punk, kind of like POISON IDEA but with Roger Miret on vocals.  Influenced by various 1980s USHC from JERRY'S KIDS to BLACK FLAG or BATTALION OF SAINTS.

INERTIA "NEW LOWS TO BEAR ..." TAPE
NJ band that started as a Crust/HC side project featuring members of DEPARTURES and HOLLOW-EYED now moves into the realm of politically charged Power Violence on this their second release.  Influences include WITCH HUNT, DROPDEAD, and FALL OF EFRAFA.  Featuring guest vocals from members of GATHERER and IDES. Download code included.

FULL SUN - HIGH CEILING / BARE FLOOR TAPE
This tape conveniently contains BOTH of the FULL SUN tapes! "Jeff Grant, formerly of PINK RAZORS and currently drumming in FAT SHADOW, has an ear for a catchy pop hook. He recorded all the instruments for this tape by himself in his basement in Indiana. I blasted it out of my boombox while sitting on Bernal Hill overlooking the city of San Francisco and fell in love with every song on here. The first comparison that came to my mind was the POTENTIAL JOHNS because of his clever use of the understated minor chord that really brings you in to the melancholy feeling of a great poppy song (my good friend Barker would refer to this as "the cinematic feel"). Looking past that comparison, there is also traces of PINK RAZORS, a little 60's garage rock and even a hint of the BEACH BOYS. When I first put this tape on I realized that it was great, but letting it sink in over time has helped me to realize that it is fucking amazing. My jam on here is "Spent All We Had" which is tastefully reverb-soaked and flawless. The dub song right after it provides a laid back reprieve before slamming into more masterful pop hooks with "Better." -MAXIMUM ROCK N' ROLL

SOMA COMA - DEMO TAPE
"Frantic and mean Hardcore from this aussie 4 piece. A little black metal vibe on this for me, with a sort of Italian hardcore ala Wretched thing going on and all. To be honest though there isn't much else to say other than another great demo from another great aussie band." - http://founddeadrecords.blogspot.com

US VS THEM #2 - ZINE
"Latest issue of this new zine by Matt Average; if you don't know the name, you almost certainly know the man's photos as he's snapped some incredibly iconic pics. This thing is absolutely gorgeous, printed on 11"x17" paper with a 2-color screen printed cover and gorgeous prints of all the photos (as you might expect from a photographer) and with interesting and informative interviews with Culo, Big Crux, UX Vileheads, Mat Plezier, and Nomos, along with a handful of reviews and columns. A totally killer zine. Limited to 125 numbered copies. " - sorrystaterecords.com *NOTE this zine MAY be rolled to fit with the rest of your order, otherwise I will send it flat in two 10x13 envelopes cut and pasted together (w/ lots of tape, of course).

WHOLE MILK #1 - ZINE
First effort from a guy with a printed matter hoarding problem. A show and tell style zine filled with stories of broken bones, original artwork/comics, clippings from the glory days of SOUNDS, CREEM & MRR, weirdo advertisements from the late 1800's to 1950's. Interviews risen from the dead: Dee Dee Ramone on hardcore and lying about his age, Alan Moore (under the pen name Kurt Vile (no not that one, dummy)) on his illustrative efforts/retrospective of his work for SOUNDS. Plus show/record fair/beer fest reviews. 28 pages, glorious black and white.

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #362 - JULY 2013
In MRR #362, the July 2013 issue, we talk with Brazil’s crusty grinders HOMICIDE, catch up with BORN WRONG from hyperactive Ontario, Canada, and get to the bottom of things with St. Louis’ ragecore outfit SHAVED WOMEN. HONDARTZAKO HONDAKINAK from the French Basque Country discuss postage prices, pit dancing and pelota; we have the second part of our interview with L.A.’s influential punk zine We Got Power, and we check in with Texas raw punk lady-trio KURRAKÄ. We also have a witty and perceptive United Arab Emirates scene report and we get a chunk of the action in a juicy Toronto, Canada scene report. Dan Cunneen and Todd Burdette commemorate punk pioneer JEFF PAUL, and MRR’s web coord Paul interviews punk peers, long-standing German-based TRUST zine. All of this, plus a wicked cover by MRR shitworker Travis Igler, guest film reviews, and of course all the columns you hate to admit you love, book reviews, the most extensive record reviews in punk, and more!

LIFE STINKS, I LIKE THE KINKS #1 - ZINE
Newest print piece from DX of DISTORT zine. First in a series of half-size fanzines dedicated to THE KINKS. As DX states, "An expression of the sickness of The Kinks and their fanatical audience." The writing here is a bit of an intro to the KINKS (good for those not familiar past "You Really Got Me", etc.) but also delves into the wild personalities behind the music. A real cool read featuring cover art from Avi Spivak to boot. US edition printed by Feel It.

HARDCORE ANACHRONISTIC ASSEMBLY VOL. 1 - ZINE
NCREDIBLE international fanzine omnibus issue assembled by Tom/General Speech. HC Anachronistic Assembly #1 features contributions from: General Speech (US), Concrete Guerilla (US-formerly Accept The Darkness), Radiation Sickness (US), Decaptitated (Japan), Eskupe Al Alkade (Spain), La Ciudad Mas Feo Del Mundo (Spain), Got Myself (US-done by yours truly, first new writing in something like two years!), More Noize (UK), Night Rider More Than Fight (France), and Your War (US). Content ranges from reviews to interviews to photos to editorials but hell, with this lineup you know you'll be getting quality all the way through. This has been a long time in the works and I can't say enough about how pleased I am with the result. Cover art from Teo Hernandez of Eskupe Al Alkade.

LIMITED READERSHIP #4 - ZINE
Beamed down from Britain...yes, a new issue of Limited Readership. This thing oozes fandom of sickly punk/hardcore/metal/cinema and all the occult and personality surrounding such movements. I'll just say the most striking part of LR #4 is the unearthed STICK MEN WITH RAY GUNS interview - just incredible dialogue with original guitarist Clarke Blacker done in 2008 but unpublished until now. Quintessential anti-social tunes summed up by a man who had to back up BOBBY SOXX! But moving on, there's a great new interview with Italian legends RAW POWER and quality chats with killer Canuck HC groups SCHOOL JERKS and KREMLIN. Besides the bands featured, there's coverage of Sabbath album art, New York's Alright fest, cult cinema, and a multitude of contemporary record reviews. A total package, you freaks. 40 pages with nice glossy cardstock covers. US edition printed by Feel It.

GRAVE MISTAKE Full Label Update / Summer TOUR DATES!

Figured it would make sense to do a quick mid-year "check in" / round-up for everyone, plus we've got a bunch of bands going on tour this summer (some of which are leaving this week) so it would be good to keep you informed all that is happening with the label!

2013 as promised has been our busiest year to date ... So far we've released the following:

GRAVE059: BIG EYES "Almost Famous" LP/CD
GRAVE060: SECTARIAN VIOLENCE "Upward Hostility" LP
GRAVE058: SICKOIDS "No Home" 12"
GRAVE057: BIG EYES "Demo 2010" 7"
GRAVE056: THE SHIRKS "S/T" 12"
VC-001: BARGE "No Gain" 7"

The feedback on all of these has been incredible, so thanks to every single one of you who have given any of these releases a listen, purchased a copy, distroed them, wrote a review, played them on a radio show, made a positive Facebook post about em, sent me a drunken text message about them, etc etc ... can't tell you how much that means to both myself and the bands so a sincere thanks to every one of you!

For those of you who still need to play catch up, you can stream all of these releases over at the Grave Mistake Bandcamp page or purchase them in the Grave Mistake Webstore. They are also available from many fine distributors, stores, labels, and digital outlets (Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, etc).

First thing, a bunch of Grave Mistake bands are going on tour very soon! BIG EYES, SICKOIDS, COKE BUST, NIGHT BIRDS, SCHOOL JERKS, and RED DONS (I'll get to that!) will all be heading out on tours this summer - all of the full info for each bands' tour is below, so PLEASE check these bands out if they come through your city!  They are all incredible!

Second, I wanted to fill you in on what's coming up over the next few months here at GMHQ ... I still have a ton in the works so here is the rundown!

GRAVE062: KREMLIN "Will You Feed Me" 7" - the US pressing of last year's EP will be available NEXT WEEK! This record rips! Released on HARDWARE RECORDS out of Germany last year, we are taking care of a new North American press because it's been getting harder and harder to get imported records due to the always increasing international shipping rates. You can check out the full EP over at the GM Bandcamp, and be sure to check out their new "Drunk in the Gulag" LP, which came out last month on BEACH IMPEDIMENT RECORDS.

GRAVE065: NIGHT BIRDS "Born to Die in Suburbia" LP/CD - yes, a new NIGHT BIRDS full length! I can't tell you how excited I am to be releasing yet another incredible release from these dudes. The follow up to their 2011 "The Other Side of Darkness" LP, for those of you who questioned how this band could possibly get any better, well they did it! I'm not going to gush too much here, but definitely check out their "Maimed for the Masses" 7" which came out on FAT WRECK CHORDS earlier this month. It's a single to the LP (with 3 non-LP b-sides) and you can check that out at the Night Birds Bandcamp page. "Born to Die in Suburbia" has a release date set for July 9th so expect to hear plenty more updates over the course of the next month.  European release will be handled by TAKEN BY SURPRISE RECORDS.

GRAVE066: RED DONS "Notes on the Underground" 7" - it's an honor to be releasing the newest single from this band! RED DONS have consistently blown me away with each release and this new single is no exception. I'm going to cut it there and just tell you to go do your research if you aren't familiar with this band, because you've been missing out! They have 2 LPs and 4 7" singles and you should check them ALL out! We are shooting to have copies for the RED DONS tour this July, and hope to have an "official" release date in early August.  Michl / TAKEN BY SURPRISE will also be releasing this 7" in Europe as well.

GRAVE067: COKE BUST "Confined" 12"/CD - Thrilled to be doing another release for DC's one and only COKE BUST!  This one is fucking BRUTAL ... they manage to once again deliver a severe hc beating and are out before you even knew what hit you. Damn, that was super corny, but oh well ... Coke Bust will be touring their asses off this summer and we are hoping to get them some vinyl for tour. We will also be releasing a CD version that will also contain the tracks from their "Degradation" 7", their split with Vaccine, and their set from the "Live on WMUC" 7".  REFUSE RECORDS will be handling a European version (on both formats) as well!

GRAVE061: 86 MENTALITY "Goin' Nowhere Fast" 12" - probably the release that I have been bugged about the most this year, and for good reason (because 86 Mentality RULES) Also, I've been talking about it for a few years and even teased everyone with a limited version at DAMAGED CITY FEST last month. We have had the vinyl in house, but the layout still needs to be finalized, so once that happens, we'll be good to go. I'm hoping to have this one out by early August as well but do not fear, it WILL happen and it will happen this summer! Thanks to everyone who made their surprise reunion set at Damaged City Fest a blast!

GRAVE063: STRIKING DISTANCE "March to your Grave" LP - the reissue of this 2001 YOUNGBLOOD RECORDS release (who are also assisting in the re-release) will also see the light of day once we get the artwork finalized, but we were lucky enough to get some limited copies to coincide with their reunion shows at United Blood Fest and Damaged City Fest. I believe SD are slated to play one more set this year at THIS IS HARDCORE fest, and we are hoping to have the real version ready to roll by then (hopefully soon)! HATED!

VC-002: DEVIL'S HAND "Welcome the Slaughter" 7" - the second release on the new VINYL CONFLICT LABEL is a three song rager from RVA's own DEVIL'S HAND. Once again, we are trying to finalize the artwork on this one but are hoping to have it out hopefully by the end of June! DEVIL'S HAND are one of the most intense bands Richmond has to offer, both live and on record, so we can't wait to get this one out to you all!

VC-003: HARD STRIPES 7" - one of Richmond's best and brightest new (well, new-ish) hardcorepunkmetal acts HARD STRIPES was kind enough to let VC handle the release their first EP! This band has made quite a name for themselves and hopefully you've checked em out or will check them out after you read this because you won't be disappointed! You can catch them at CHAOS IN TEJAS this weekend ... they are playing with BUSHWICK FUCKING BILL ... I thought my mind was playin tricks on me when I first heard that, but it's goin down for real!  Anyways, we hope to get cracking on this 7" in early June and are shooting for a release before the summer is up!

On top of these, I've got a few more things in the works.  No joke, THE THUMBS "All Lesser Devils" 12" will see the light of day this year I PROMISE!!! Also ... I will be teaming up with one of my favorite men in hardcore today, Mr. Sam Yarmuth of TRIPLE B RECORDS fame to bring you an IRON BOOTS DISCOGRAPHY LP!!! After an incredible reunion set at United Blood this year, we all realized that the legacy of IRON BOOTS must live on and with all of their 7"s now out of print, what better time then now to get these all on one convenient LP. This LP will contain their "2004 Demo" tracks, "Weight of the World" 7", and "Easy Green" 7", and in addition to those, REVELATION RECORDS was also nice enough to let us throw the "Generations: A Hardcore Compilation" tracks on there as well! We are going to get the ball rolling on this sometime this summer, no ETA for this LP at the moment, but if all goes according to plan it should be out before the year is up.

Well, that's all for now, tour dates are below and once again, thank you all for your continued support ... this label would not exist without it! I thank you and all the bands thank you!

BIG EYES "Almost Famous" LP/CD Out Now!

That's right! The second full length from BIG EYES, "Almost Famous," is officially out now! All of the preorders have shipped and the record should be popping up in your favorite local shops, distros, and online sites over the course of the next few weeks!  Taken By Surprise Records will be handling the European pressing of the LP, and their version should be available later this month!

"Almost Famous" is streaming in full over at Spin.com, you can check that out HERE. The release is also streaming on the Grave Mistake BANDCAMP page!

I still have a chunk of the limited GOLD VINYL left (but it's going fast) so if you weren't able to preorder the record, you still have time to grab one! I've also set up a few package deals in case you needed to scoop up any of the older BIG EYES releases along with this new one. You can order "Almost Famous" HERE!

In addition to the LP/CD, "Almost Famous" is available for full Download over at the Grave Mistake Bandcamp. You can also find the record in iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Rdio, and other fun sites!

BIG EYES will be hitting the road at the end of the month, and have a few Seattle shows lined up as well before they leave, including an "Almost Famous" record release show with TOYS THAT KILL on 5/17, with PAUL COLLINS BEAT on 5/18, and with THE KIDS on 5/24. Damn Seattle, you are lucky!

GRAVE059: BIG EYES "Almost Famous" LP/CD
The highly anticipated sophomore full length from Seattle's BIG EYES! With a solidified West Coast lineup, BIG EYES have stepped up their game with a more definitive sound and unified vision. "ALMOST FAMOUS" finds the band drawing even more of a hard rock influence, while maintaining both the pop sensibility and punk edge that you've come to know and love. Taking inspiration from a wide variety of bands ranging from 70's rock and roll staples like Kiss and Blue Oyster Cult, 70's and 80's power pop classics like The Nerves, The Shivvers and The Undertones, and 90's pop punk bands like Scared of Chaka and Mr. T Experience, the trio continue to develop their signature style - tastefully embracing the more glamorous aspects of rock and roll without compromising the attitude and grit. *CD version contains two bonus tracks from the "Back from the Moon" single!

WEBSTORE UPDATE for May 10, 2013!

Hello! Bothering you twice this week, so my apologies for that but I warned you earlier that this year was going to be a BUSY one! Enough small talk, let's get down to it!  Bringing you a nice little webstore update today, I'll get to that in a minute though.

In case you haven't been paying attention (or have been busy with work, school, or other more "important" things), I've got a few NEW Grave Mistake releases out now!  Most recently, the BIG EYES "Almost Famous" LP/CD which is officially out next week! We've been working on this new full length for a while now, and both myself and the band are all thrilled with the final product and I assure you will be too.  The record begins shipping on Monday, so head on over to the webstore and pick up a copy! We've still got a few left on the limited Gold Vinyl, and I've also set up a few package deals in case you needed to grab any other Big Eyes releases along with this new LP.

The SECTARIAN VIOLENCE "Upward Hostility" LP and SICKOIDS "No Home" 12" are still fresh as well! Two raging hardcore slabs that you need to have on your turntable (you can alternate between the two) ... we've still got a few copies of the SxV LP on nice Blue Vinyl, sadly the SICKOIDS 12" on Clear w/ OBI strip is sold out from us but the regular Black vinyl version rages just as hard, trust me. Finally, the BARGE "No Gain" 7" on RVA locals label VINYL CONFLICT is still pretty fresh as well! I've got a small amount left on the limited Red vinyl for you slackers. BARGE are hands down one of the best (if not the best) new hardcore bands coming out of RVA these days ... but don't take my word for it, see for yourself.

Anyways, if you've already picked up these new releases ... THANK YOU!!! If you want to check out some tunes, head on over to the Grave Mistake Records Bandcamp page - the BARGE, SECTARIAN VIOLENCE, and SICKOIDS records are all streaming in full and we've got a couple of tracks from the BIG EYES LP up too (we'll have a full stream next week).

I've got a few more releases to announce as well as some big summertime plans (most of which you've already heard me mention) but I'm going to save that until next week so stay tuned! Well, since I have you here, peep a new BRAIN F≠ track from their upcoming "Empty Set" LP!  Now, on to the webstore update ...

WHAT'S NEW FOR 5/10/2013:
http://www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog/products_new.php

Some killer new releases in this update as well as a ton of essential reissues! On the 7" front we've got the brand new single from the UK's GOOD THROB! Their first EP didn't leave my turntable for a while, so it's good to see that they are still delivering!  Grabbed a couple of 7"s I've been slacking on picking up, including the second single from Toronto's PURITY CONTROL, the limited CRIMINAL CODE 7" on Inimical, the FLIP SHIT 7", and the HYSTERICS 7" (saw this band at DAMAGED CITY FEST last month, they RULED!) to name a few.  Grabbed some other new HC slabs including the newest from BAD AMERICAN, the WORD ON THE STREET / RECKONING FORCE 7" (I back any record with a STRAIGHT AHEAD cover on it), and the newest ALTERED BOYS Tape (I'll have their newest 7" on DERANGED in here SOON I promise).

Also picked up a bunch of LPs, including two new ones from HARD SKIN,  the FAILURE FACE Discography LP, the newest from IRON LUNG, a long overdue reissue / US pressing of one of my favorites - SAMIAM'S "You Are Freaking Me Out" LP (how can you NOT love SAMIAM? I hope No Idea reissues "Astray" as well!); the newest SUGAR STEMS LP on DIRTNAP, a few rad 12"s from M'LADY'S RECORDS including releases from TYVEK, COASTING, and THE GOLDEN AWESOME; and a few GIVE PRAISE titles I've been slacking on picking up including releases from GASH, NO QUALMS, ACCION MUTANTE, MELLOW HARSHER, and a few more.

Finally, stocked up on the reissues (as always) including the two newest from UGLY POP - the BLITZ "All Out Attack" 7" and PARTISANS "Police Story" 7"; a slew of classic HC 12"s from TAANG including the BATTALION OF SAINTS "Second Coming" LP, FU's "Kill For Christ" LP, DYS "Brotherhood" LP, GANG GREEN "Another Wasted Night" LP, and a killer NEGATIVE APPROACH collection LP! I also restocked on the POISON IDEA "Kings of Punk" LP; and from ALONA'S DREAM Records I've got the BORED YOUTH and JJ-180 reissues, as well as a restock on the NECROS "Ambionic Sound" 7".

Full list with descriptions is below, check it out and thanks for reading and for your support! Expect a more detailed GM label update next week, I'll fill you in on when you can expect the STRIKING DISTANCE and 86 MENTALITY records, as well as the new BRAIN F≠, NIGHT BIRDS, and COKE BUST ... PLUS I've got a couple more announcements you may or may not have heard me rambling about on the GM Facebook page.

Have a great weekend!

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE FOR 5/10/13:

GOOD THROB "CULTURE VULTURE" 7" (MUSCLE HORSE)
Good Throb take you on a day out for this, the second single from one of our house bands. Unsurprisingly, it’s off to the British Museum and then on to a club with a civil servant that likes to be dominated. Three songs; a re-imagining of a demo track and two new ones on the flip. Here is the soundtrack to building a prison out of your own painstakingly-refined tastes, described as “the missing link between Flipper and 4-Skins”; a surreal yet tuneful racket. The depraved artwork was dreamt up by the band, riso printed at home and the single was mastered by Sned.

BLITZ "ALL OUT ATTACK" 7" (UGLY POP)
Massively influential UK outfit Blitz dropped this four-song beast of a debut in 1981, the first release on definitive UK82 label No Future. Sales quickly out-paced demand and the record went on to shift over 25000 copies. Nonetheless, it's been unavailable in its intended format ever since, and with eBay prices steadily creeping higher, this seemed as good a time as any to reissue it properly. A relentlessly tough slab of raw hardcore punk that sits a lot closer to the likes of Negative Approach and early Agnostic Front than to most of its UK contemporaries, this was a huge favourite of mine as a teenager and I'm truly stoked to be reissuing it!

PARTISANS "POLICE STORY" 7" (UGLY POP)
Devastating first single from these teen Welsh punks, blazing through a quick set of peerless first-generation hardcore. Racing drums, desperate vocals and an absolutely incendiary chainsaw guitar attack make this one for the ages, sounding as every bit as vital and powerful now as it did back then. Another reissue culled from the No Future archives and getting the proper format it deserves for the first time in over thirty years! High quality pressing in repro sleeve with insert.

JJ 180 "S/T" 7" (ALONAS DREAM)
JJ180 got its start in 1977 when a group of teenagers came together around the art and music that had influenced them growing up in the 1970’s in Santa Cruz, CA. They were: Polio Ferrari (keyboards), Wally Sound (guitar), Tora Brooks (bass), Walter McKee (guitar) and Caker Calloway (drums). Their music was a hybrid of the then emerging punk sound as well as 1960’s surf, garage and psychedelic music.  The band was a keystone of the Santa Cruz punk scene and organized many important early punk & new wave shows in their hometown.  After establishing a local following, they released a single and a few songs on compilations. The original line up lasted until 1979, when Walter left the band and they changed their name to “The Realtors.”  A search of the band’s archive has yielded two unreleased gems from their original recording session in March 1978: “Talk Talk,” a cover of the classic Music Machine song and “Classroom” a JJ 180 original featuring the band’s trademark dueling guitar solos and confrontational attitude.

BORED YOUTH "NOVEMBER 1981" 7" (ALONAS DREAM)
Bored Youth’s scorching first recording from November 1981.   A key document of the early Detroit punk scene.  Grab one before they are gone again.

WORD ON THE STREET / RECKONING FORCE - SPLIT 7"
"Split 7" between these two Canadian bands. Reckoning Force are ex-Weak Link, whose tapes I carried in the distro, and they play thick, mid-paced hardcore with a distinct skinhead element. While there's a similar thing going on to bands like 86 mentality and Violent Future, RF are a bit more straight up oi! than any of those bands, which I like. As for Word on the Street, they're billed as a Straight Ahead rip, and that couldn't really be more accurate. I've never heard a band imitate Straight Ahead with the same level of precision and detail that bands put into aping Discharge, but WITS have done it with aplomb. Excellent, explosive HC." - sorrystaterecords.com

ALTERED BOYS - CASSINGLE TAPE
In time for their spring tour, New Jersey's Altered Boys have recorded 2 new songs which are housed in an cassingle style cover. You may be already familiar with AB from their 7"s on Katorga Works and Deranged Records. They play a style of HC reminiscent of the early 2000 era HC bands like Shark Attack, Knife Fight, Tear It Up, etc... These 2 new songs were recorded after their 2 EPs, and are exclusive to this release. Side A is a mid-paced stomper, side B is a fast thrasher.  Limited to 250 copies on pro duplicated yellow cassettes, with screened shells and wraparound covers .

PURITY CONTROL "ADUSTING" 7" (PURITY CONTROL)
Six more tracks from Toronto's "low-fi grind for creeps" Purity Control. This release is the pairing to the bands "Coping" 7" on Chris Colohan's label High Anxiety/No Idea released late 2012. For fans of INFEST and MIND ERASER with bleeding heart lyrics. Recorded at Audiolab by Chris Hegge (Fucked Up, Career Suicide), Mixed and Mastered at Dead Air by Will Killingsworth (Orchid/Ampere). Self released limited to 313.

HYSTERICS "S/T" 7" (M'LADY'S)
They have set the West Coast on fire, and by all accounts have had people foaming at the mouth. SAY HELLO TO HYSTERICS. Six insane HC blasts, 1981-style, Wilson Center-style. The sound of total dissatisfaction!

HARD SKIN "WHY DO BIRDS SUDDENLY APPEAR" LP (FERAL WARD)
Nine years on from the stunning second album 'Same Meat, Different Gravy', lazy south London oi! legends hard skin return with not one but two albums. 'Why Do Birds Suddenly Appear' is the female version of this soon to be household oi! classic. it features versions of the tracks from 'On The Balls' but with with female vocals from Becki Bondage, Joanna Newsom, Miki from Lush, Sandy from Fucked Up, Veronica Falls, Beckie from Chaos UK, Alison from the Kills, Manda Rin from Bis, Liela from Duke Spirit, Debbie from the Nuns / Echobelly / Curve, Beth Jeans Houghton and Alela Diane.  It's 12 instant anthems about council estates, sausages, the kids, cunts, the filth and gipsy hill.  The sound is massive, the songs catchy and they'll stick in yer head for years.  This is the first ever album to be released in both male and female form.

HARD SKIN "ON THE BALLS" LP (FERAL WARD)
Nine years on from the stunning second album 'Same Meat, Different Gravy', lazy south London oi! legends Hard Skin return with not one but two albums. 'On The Balls' is the male version of this soon to be household oi! classic. it's 12 instant anthems about council estates, sausages, the kids, cunts, the filth and gipsy hill. the sound is massive, the songs catchy and they'll stick in yer head for years.  No one does anthemic oi! better than Hard Skin and the world will once again rejoice at these three diamond geezers.  Hard Skin are the world’s premier oi! punk band.  No-one is better or harder. With their amazing live concerts they continue to build on their huge following of punks, skinheads, indie people and other pop stars. It's been 9 years since their last album, the massive “Same Meat Different Gravy”. That makes it 17 years since their enormous hit debut album “Hard Nuts And Hard Cunts”, one of the most legendary albums in rock music history which has kept the oi! genre alive since the glory days of the Cockney Rejects and Cock Sparrer who both went terrible after also starting out very good.

SAMIAM "YOU ARE FREAKING ME OUT" LP (NO IDEA)
The Samiam record that never saw a proper vinyl release in the USA finally occurs, fully remastered and better than ever!! In the words of an upstanding band member, "hmmm....shitty old band of losers....how can we effectively promote that....." Yes indeed, NO WAITAMINUTE! This record is crucial! Come and get it!!

IRON LUNG "WHITE GLOVE TEST" LP (PRANK)
"White Glove Test" is the third studio album by Seattle-San Francisco power violence duo IRON LUNG, and a follow up to 2007's "Sexless, No Sex". A claustrophobic, paranoid attack of water tight stop-start intense hardcore hammered between crushing sludge bits mixed with hardcore pummel. Artwork by FEEDING.

SUGAR STEMS "CAN'T WAIT" LP (DIRTNAP)
Betsy (The Flips) and Jon (Teenage Rejects, Catholic Boys, Tuff Bananas, Sticks'n'Stones, Rumble) Heibler started the Sugar Stems in the fall of 2007 with bassist Steph Swinney Conard (also of The Flips). The band released its debut single, "Beat Beat Beat" b/w "Crybaby", on Bachelor Records in 2009 and a year later issued its full-length debut Sweet Songs of the Sugar Stems on Bachelor and Dusty Medical Records. Those of us who'd been long awaiting an heir apparent to The Shivvers and Nikki and the Corvettes literally jumped for joy when we heard Sweet Songs, spending the subsequent months dancing in the streets and angrily rebuking local radio stations for failing to play "I Gotta Know". If you think it's a stretch to call said album a modern classic of power pop, you probably haven't heard it! The Sugar Stems returned in 2012 with a pair of incredible singles on Certified PR Records that suggested the band had somehow managed to improve upon perfection. It was perfectly appropriate, then, that the title of the band's long-awaited sophomore album would be Can't Wait. Released at the tail end of 2012 by Screaming Apple Records (Germany) and Dream On Records (Japan), Can't Wait now gets an American release on Dirtnap. This terrific LP shows "growth" in all the best ways. Without abandoning its signature honeyed melodies and high-spirited candy pop style, the band has made a more mature and consistent album that's definitely its best to date. The production has been stepped up another notch, and every song sounds like a hit. If you missed the singles "Greatest Pretender" and "Like I Do", they're here in all their infectious glory. But it's the more melancholy tracks that really showcase Betsy Heibler's development into one of the finest songwriters working today. Songs like "Make Up Your Mind" and the gorgeous "Love You To Pieces" are steeped in the timeless traditions of Brill Building and British Invasion pop, yet feel entirely fresh in the year 2013. Even when the songs themselves are not exactly happy, there's something about the Sugar Stems' music that just makes you feel good. No sophomore jinx here, folks. Can't Wait was totally worth the wait. Why is this band not huge?!

CRIMINAL CODE "SACRED HANDS" 7" (INIMICAL)
Two songs from the same recording session as the recent Deranged debut EP "Hollowed". One is a melodic hardcore song that has become their signature, featuring equal parts Husker Du, Replacements and the Wipers. The B side gets much darker, exploring their post punk side, Criminal Code's take on Bauhaus meets My Bloody Valentine. Two outstanding new songs from a band that is always pushing forward. One time press limited to 372 copies.

BAD AMERICAN "BRUISES" 7" (1124)
Latest 7" from this Pennsylvania hardcore band. This is some dark, noisy, and dirgey stuff with a really unique sound. Bad American exist somewhere about halfway between the lurching, noisy grime of Pissed Jeans and the brooding quality of bands that take inspiration from the later Black Flag sound. A really pushing 7"... excellent stuff.

FLIP SHIT "OUTGOING ROCKERS" 7" (REEL TIME)
Flip Shit are part of the new breed of Rotcore that's coming out in the wake of Rational Animals' disintegration. Actually, they were a band way before that and probably aren't influenced by that, but whatever. This is some rockin' punk stuff that, if you've seen life, know is very impressive.

FAILURE FACE "DISCOGRAPHY" LP (GIVE PRAISE)
From Florida, Failure Face existed from '93 - '96. They played in-your-face and down-your-throat hardcore. Fueled by the sounds of punk rock inspired hardcore that moves along as a guide to original hardcore music. Fast, combined with catchy elements and negative lyrics to get you angry about the state of the world around you - this is a statement of early 90's hardcore. With sound elements of INFEST, Failure Face proudly makes it's claim on the hardcore map.

TYVEK "FAST METABOLISM" LP (M'LADY'S)
At long last, the vinyl debut of this flawless compilation of Tyvek's early singles. Unstoppable, much like a juggernaut or an avalanche. An avalanche of hits! People have been asking us about this record for over two years now, so we're really excited to finally have it here. Deluxe tip-on sleeve, with lyrics for the first time! Issued in conjunction with our comrades at Water Wing Records in Portland, a subsidiary of Mississippi Records! Mastered by Timothy Stollenwerk and Bob Weston for maximum scree and scrum.

GRASS WIDOW / NATURE - SPLIT 7" (M'LADY'S)
Two of our favorite groups in America team up to turn on ALL the lights. Grass Widow's debut side for us is beyond our wildest dreams: it's called "Disappearing Industries", and it's our favorite song by them yet, brimming over with great ideas. Likewise for Nature! "In A Place" sounds like secret societies wielding wild energy underground. Mystery and magick and brilliance in abundance. Entire pressing limited to 1000 copies worldwide. St. Valentine never had it so good.

COASTING "YOU'RE NEVER GOING BACK" LP (M'LADY'S)
It makes sense that a band like Coasting would be vaguely fixated on the concept of places. The duo, guitarist/vocalist Madison Farmer from Memphis and drummer/vocalist Fiona Campbell from New Zealand, met and began playing while both were living in Brooklyn before Fiona relocated to Portland, writing songs and touring when Campbell wasn't trotting the globe for her other gig as Vivian Girls' drummer. The incredibly complex and transient nature of the bandmembers was bound to sneak into the songwriting at some point, and Coasting's debut album, You're Never Going Back, is thick with references to home, leaving, staying, and all the various places in between. Sonically, Coasting weaves a weird combination of garage punk energy and indie laissez-faire. The bass-free instrumentation immediately suggests stripped-down garage rock, and there's a garagey backbone, to be sure, but intricate girl group-style harmony vocals wind through almost every song, filling some of the negative space with a layer of mysterious beauty. Album highlight "Portland" finds the duo lamenting displacement and looking for a true sense of home over an incredibly catchy, soaring chorus of "Where should we go?" Farmer's one-string riffs make plenty of space for Campbell's subtly complex drums and even more slight touches of organ. This canvas makes the most of dynamics on songs like "For Hours" and "Been Here Before," where the uncrowded sound makes slight shifts in both playing and production pop brightly. Coasting often get lumped in with neo-girl group contemporaries such as Dum Dum Girls, Best Coast, Vivian Girls, and the like, but the wide open spaces and considered songwriting bring to mind the last generation's punking up of girl group moments more than trends toward bedroom ennui. Campbell's steadfast drumming is a cousin to Sara Lund's playing in northwestern '90s luminaries Unwound, and the minimal, sometimes spooky drum and guitar interplay isn't too far removed from D.C. all-girl punk trio Slant 6 or even early Sleater-Kinney. Coasting steers clear of any trendy trappings on You're Never Going Back, opting instead to cultivate a unique, nervy sound and paint a picture of restlessness and searching that feels as honest as it does urgent.

GOLDEN AWESOME, THE "AUTUMN" LP (M'LADY'S)
Being in a shoegaze band in 2011 is roughly the equivalent of being in a rockabilly band in the 1980s. You either end up sounding like a musty museum piece, trotting out the same clichés to diminishing effect, or you can somehow transcend the inherent creepiness of slavishly keeping a long dormant style alive by adding something new to the routine or by writing amazing songs and playing the hell out of them. On their debut album, Autumn, New Zealand’s the Golden Awesome escape residing in the shoegaze trash heap by doing the latter with extreme levels of skill. The record is filled with songs that burrow into your brain easily, like termites into rotted wood but much more pleasantly than that imagery might suggest. Whether slow and dreamy (“Where to Begin,” “Highlife”), midtempo and dreamy (“Autumn”), or fast and dreamy (“Astronomy”), there is a whole lot of dreaminess on Autumn. The layers of overdriven (but not too processed-sounding) guitars add to the dreamlike state and the swooning female vocals give the songs an aching beauty and a gracefully mysterious undertone that, when combined with the welcome sense of urgency and drama the band plays with throughout, give the impression that the songs actually mean something to them; they aren’t just re-creating the sounds of their favorite albums for kicks. There is a level of emotion and power to Autumn that most shoegaze bands (past and present) totally bypass in favor of monkeying with pedals and trying to out-reverse-reverb each other. You could argue all day long over the merits of rehashing old musical ideas and reanimating the corpses of dead Valentines, but when a band does that with the ability, passion, and undeniable knack for crafting beautiful songs that the Golden Awesome do here, it kind of makes all the debate irrelevant.

BATTALION OF SAINTS "SECOND COMING" LP (TAANG)
Finally available again after being out of print for over 20 years! Reissued with a gatefold edition with inner sleeve and lyrics. The Battalion of Saints are one of the more hard core punk bands from there time.  Starting in 1980 out of San Diego, their songs were nonstop blasts of adrenaline and raw power. The Batts were one of the most furious and nihilistic bands that were ahead of there time. In 5 years the band accomplished unforgettable performance's leaving a deep impression and influence on the punk rock scene.

FU'S "KILL FOR CHRIST" LP (TAANG)
A reissue of the amazing 1982 "Kill For Christ" album by one of the finest hardcore bands to ever come out of Boston. Includes all the tracks from the original release, along with the band's songs from the "This Is Boston Not LA" and "Unsafe At Any Speed" compilations, as well as the group's first demo recordings. Nineteen tracks in all. Packaged with the original Pushead artwork.

DYS "BROTHERHOOD" LP (TAANG)
A reissue of the debut "brotherhood" album from Boston straight-edge hardcore pioneers DYS. Originally released on X-Claim in 1983. This is classic Boston hardcore from Dave Smalley and company. Essential not only to any straight-edger but also to anyone with a slight intrest in the roots of hardcore.

NEGATIVE APPROACH "NOTHING WILL STAND IN OUR WAY" LP (TAANG)
Limited edition of 1000. Negative Approach are known as one of the greatest hardcore bands of all time. They challenge the ranks of Black Flag, SSD, Minor Threat, Bad Brains and Poison Idea although they only made one 7" and one LP in the 80's the recently found 1984 session Friends Of No One has prompted Lead Vocalist John Brannon to unveil the earliest works of the band. From 1981's first known recording to the first gig to the two songs that were outtakes from the 7" as well as the two classic live performances in their entirety, this 53-song compilation stretches all the recordings leading up to their first album.

GANG GREEN "ANOTHER WASTED NIGHT" LP (TAANG)
"Perhaps best remembered for the fine hardcore rendition of "Voices Carry" -- the song made famous in the '80s by 'Til Tuesday -- Another Wasted Night is the debut recording for Taang! records from Boston punk legends Gang Green. This rambunctious young punk band did for the East Coast what J.F.A. were doing for the Southwest in Phoenix: helping to create skatepunk music without as much of the apocalyptic, angry, or depressed sentiment that many L.A. punk and metal groups seemed obsessed with at the time. While not quite as overtly negative, the music on Another Wasted Night certainly doesn't lack ferocity. Standout tracks include the title cut "Another Wasted Night," some party-themed numbers like "19th Hole," and other high-speed sendups like "Sold Out Alabama" and "Protect and Serve." Like many debuts, Another Wasted Night successfully captures its creators at their rawest and most inflammatory. Even throwaway cuts like the sophomoric "Skate to Hell" and "Crocodile Rock" burn with a kind of goofball passion. While it might not be a masterpiece, this record is critical for fans of the band and early East Coast hardcore and punk. " - allmusic.com

V/A - SOMEONE GOT THEIR HEAD KICKED IN - COMPILATION LP (BYO)
Classic hardcore/punk compilation from 1982 and the first ever release from BYO Records featuring 18 songs by 8 bands including Adolescents, Aggression, Bad Religion, Battalion Of Saints, Blades, Joneses, Social Distortion and Youth Brigade.

MULTIPLE TRUTHS "NO ONE WINS" LP (HALO OF FLIES)
New west/midwest punk/hc band featuring ex and current members of Herds, Call Me Lightning, Manipulation, Condenada, Zebras, Permanent Ruin, and more.  A passionate, melodic, stirring and heavy 10 song debut LP made up of equal parts heavy US hardcore and European melodic punk.  Think Ballast meets From Ashes Rise meets Gorilla Biscuits.

HEARTLESS "CERTAIN DEATH" 7" (HALO OF FLIES)
After their full length in 2011 ("Hell is Other People" - Southern Lord) Heartless returns with 8 new blasts of steel city hardcore. this is the pure relentless fury that they've built a reputation on show after show, tour after tour.  Possibly the most under-rated band playing heavy hardcore on this side of the atlantic.

MELLOW HARSHER "S/T" 7" (GIVE PRAISE)
Self-proclaimed free-edge from Wisconsin. Brutal and punishing straight forward fastcore. This will put a hole in the new FREE-EDGE system! Features members of SFN and Copeater.

NO QUALMS "HYENAS" 7" (GIVE PRAISE)
NO QUALMS from Florida play angry hardcore ripped down to the core! They bring a array of guttural vocals, crust coated, fastcore anthems! NO QUALMS take elements of bands like INFEST and CAPITALIST CASUALTIES and lay it over with a original crust based simplistic hardcore. They push the boundaries of their respective genres and create a sound all their own.

GASH "WE ARE FUCK YOU" 7" (GIVE PRAISE)
GASH are a three piece out of Philadelphia that play some fast as hell hardcore-punk with a heavy '70s rock influence tied in. This 5 song 7" clocks in just under 5min. with each track nicely flowing into the next and leaves you begging for more. It’s like throwing BUDGIE and BLACK SABBATH into a blender with RUPTURE and INFEST. Pissed off, loud and original fastcore for all you speedfreaks.

SCHEISSE MINNELLI "EXIST TO GET PISS'T" LP (GIVE PRAISE)
Finally re-pressed and available: the first LP of the German-American cross section. Skate Punk at its finest. Mix DRI, Black Flag, Verbal Abuse and grab the skateboard!

ACCION MUTANTE "WORSE THAN A VIRUS" LP (GIVE PRAISE)
After nineteen years of skull smashing, extreme crust the German crust veterans ACCION MUTANTE release their first full length “ Worse than a Virus” on Power It Up Records and Give Praise Records. 17 new blast attacks of ripping, intense, pulverizing d- deat crust. The song structure is similar to that of say “DESTROY!” with distorted, growled vocals. Full-on, raging political crust with enough variety and anger to really make it interesting. The band’s self-proclaimed influences are DISCHARGE, DOOM, and EXTREME NOISE TERROR. Throw in some NAPALM DEATH and ACCION MUTANTE is what you get.

HOMEM ELEFANTE / AMEACA CIGANA - SPLIT LP (GIVE PRAISE)
Blasting circle-pit infused hardcore! Featuring members of Alarme! Along the lines of 80's American influenced hardcore and the bandana thrash circuit!

LEMONHEADS "HATE YOUR FRIENDS" TAPE (TAANG)
Hate Your Friends is the debut album of the American alternative rock band The Lemonheads. The album showcases their early punk roots, and is one of only three albums to feature the full original lineup of Evan Dando, Ben Deily, and Jesse Peretz.

LEMONHEADS "CREATOR" TAPE (TAANG)
"Demonstrating an increased sense of pop, not only in their songwriting but also in their relatively measured performances, the Lemonheads turn in a winning second album with Creator. Although they still spend a little too much time mucking around with sub-hardcore noise, Evan Dando's gentler pop numbers are quite appealing, even when he treads a little too closely to dippy-hippie clichés, and they certainly point the way to the engaging punk-pop of Lick." -Stephen Erlewine, AllMusic Guide

"THIS MUSIC" BOOK  (WARDANCE)
Not a historical account but a personal one: a collection of reflections and memories on bands like Black Sabbath, Bad Brains, and Agnostic Front, along with memories of hanging out at CBGB's HC matinees in the mid to late '80s and playing in a HC band (OUR GANG).  Cover art by Sean Taggart.

BIG EYES are gearing up for another tour through the midwest and over to the East Coast, so check the dates below and mark your calendars! They'll have copies of "Almost Famous" with them as well!
