DEEP SLEEP "Turn Me Off" LP Now Available for PREORDER!!!!

That's right friends - it's been a good year in the making, but the debut LP from Baltimore's one and only DEEP SLEEP is finally available for order!!! I can't tell you how thrilled I am or how excited (and a little relieved) it makes me to be making this official announcement, but this 12" is finally finished and came out perfect!  I can honestly say that, while I was expecting nothing less than greatness from the band on this record, they surpassed my expectations and I'm just glad to finally be able to get it out to the masses.

For all of the early birds and mailorder lovers I have some nice WHITE VINYL (300 copies pressed) available now … aside from the advanced run we did for THE FEST back in October of 2010, this will be the only limited version so if you are into that sort of thing then grab it while you can!  The LP also comes with a pretty rad 12x24 inch poster insert and a Download Card … the full package!

You can order the record here, I also put up a pretty cool package deal which gets you the new LP plus all three 7"s for $20 plus shipping:

DEEP SLEEP "Turn Me Off" LP PREORDER

The band will also have copies at the COKE BUST record release show in DC tonight with Direct Control, Rations, and Vaccine. Info on that can be found HERE

Ok ... here is the fine print so please read carefully. The bad news is that yes, this is a "preorder" meaning you will have to wait a couple of weeks to get your grubby little mitts on it. The GOOD news is that this bad boy is finished and I have 1000 copies sitting in my apartment as I type this. As timing would have it, I'll be headed out on tour next week with GOVERNMENT WARNING and NIGHT BIRDS (I might have some copies with me) so I will not have time to get the orders packed up. Hence the "preorder" status here ... but rest assured I am not waiting on anything from the plant or the printer, these things are ready to roll.

Orders will begin shipping the week of Feb 21st. Anyone who has ordered from me before knows that I try my hardest to get everything out in a timely manner, but please be patient as I generally have a decent amount of orders around a new release. If you have any questions you can email me at gravemistakerecords@gmail.com ... now ORDER AWAY!!!

Also I would like to add that our good friends at TAKEN BY SURPRISE RECORDS in Germany will be doing a separate EUROPEAN PRESSING as well ... of course all of my European friends are more than welcome to order the US version from me, but if it's easier for you (or if you are a completest) than please feel free to order from them (their version has special silk screened covers ... fancy!):

TAKEN BY SURPRISE RECORDS

That's all for now, but I'll have more new release news in the upcoming weeks as the COKE BUST "Degradation" 7", THE SHIRKS "Cry Cry Cry" 7", BAD ADVICE "Do Not Resuscitate" 7", and GOVERNMENT WARNING "No Moderation" LP are all very very close to completion and will be available for order soon.  For now, please check out the DEEP SLEEP LP and the BRAIN F≠ "So Dim" 7" (which has been getting  some AWESOME reviews and I'm almost completely out of the first press)!!!

Any distros, stores, labels, etc etc etc looking for wholesale information or trades please feel free to hit me up at gravemistakerecords@gmail.com because I want to get these records into as many hands as possible!!!

Thanks for reading, stay tuned because there are plenty more updates around the corner!!!

BRAIN F≠ "So Dim" 7" OUT NOW!

BRAIN F≠ "So Dim b/w Symptom Set" 7" (GRAVE044) OUT NOW!

Well here it is, the first of many new GRAVE MISTAKE releases for 2011! I'm extremely thrilled to bring you the second 7" single from Charlotte, NC's BRAIN F≠ … "So Dim / Symptom Set"  is an overblown mindfuck of garage punk goodness;  furious overdriven guitars, booming rhythm section, killer dual female / male vocals … after releasing a very impressive demo last year under the moniker BRAIN FLANNEL, they released their debut "Restraining Order" 7" on the UK's STATIC SHOCK last month and have been hard at work writing and recording new material for an LP later this year.

I've got 60 copies of the "So Dim" single on RED VINYL (out of 100) in the webstore now, as well as a handful of copies of the "Restraining Order" single as well … I highly recommend picking up both. You can order them in the webstore here:

BRAIN F≠ "So Dim" 7"

BRAIN F≠ "Restraining Order" 7"

BRAIN F≠ "So Dim B/W Symptom Set" 7" (GRAVE044)
North Carolina’s BRAIN F≠ bring you their second single; “SO DIM” b/w “SYMPTOM SET” is a double A-sided banger with all the overdriven/overloaded guitar fury of TEENGENERATE or ZERO BOYS and the angry female-fronted charm you love from so many DANGERHOUSE & early L.A. singles. Massive rhythm section a la AVENGERS and NERVOUS EATERS, hook-filled & danceable, the hardest of core. Hostile, angry fun - the perfect follow up to their debut 7" on Static Shock (UK).

BRAIN F≠ "Restraining Order B/W God No" 7" (STATIC SHOCK)
Following from a well received demo tape (under the name Brain Flannel), the debut 7” from North Carolina, USA’s Brain F (featuring members of Logic Problem and Grids) is now available to order. This two track 45 kicks off with Restraining Order, which was originally on the demo, and definitely one of the more catchy tracks to be committed to vinyl this year. I saw them described once as “when X (US), X (Australia), Teengenerate and Messthetics collide”, and as dumb as that may sound, it actually makes sense. The songs are bass driven, have scratchy guitar-work and have really impressive interloping male/female vocals that make this stand out.

If my word isn't good enough, here are some reviews in case you need more convincing:

"North Carolina's BRAIN F offer up two cuts of jangly, abrasive punk on their second single.  Each side of this 45 spins by in two minutes, loud and in-the-red.  Dueling male/female vocals shout out above trebly guitars and blown out drumming.  There's a definite "wave" inflection in BRAIN F's sound, though it's nasty and subversive.  Think of groups like LOST SOUNDS or THE SPITS.  This is scum music played by intellectuals who have created something primal, yet evolved.  With each spin of the record you realize there is a little more to BRAIN F than you thought there was at first." - GOT MYSELF ZINE

"Alex at Grave Mistake describes Brain F≠’s new single, “So Dim,” as well as their “Restraining Order” debut as “mandatory buys for the beginning of the year.” I agree, even if I’ve only heard this one, “So Dim.” It’s disorienting, to say the least. Both tracks clock in at around the two-minute mark, and are blasts of fuzzed-out garage punk.  The a-side, “So Dim,” and the b-side, “Symptom Set,” are just dense. Everything is packed so tightly that you almost can’t breathe as you’re listening to the songs. The layers - guitars, bass, and vocals - are fitted together in such a way that the title track doesn’t have any empty space. It’s like a typewritten page that’s been single-spaced and written in all capitals: you can understand what’s being presented, but it feels a little tense and claustrophobic. You’re left with the sense that someone’s very high-strung.  This is the perfect musical accompaniment to several well-sugared cups of espresso and a pack of unfiltered cigarettes." - ROCK STAR JOURNALIST

"This gem of a 7″ comes to us from Grave Mistake Records. This is the band’s second 7″ single with their previous one being on Static Shock Records in the UK. This was my first introduction to this band and I was instantly reminded of X-Ray Spex and Kim Gordon’s side project, Free Kitten. This 7″ is now in my regular rotation and is quickly becoming a favorite spin. The songs are quick, raw and full of energy. This is the first must have 7″ of 2011. The record comes with a digital download card so that you can enjoy this on the go as well, which you will want to do. Pick this 7″ up and don’t look back." - FOOLIOS.COM

"Grave Mistake Records is starting out the new year with a bang, this 7″ is their first release of 2011 and they’ve already set the bar high for themselves. What we’ve got here is truly the first great 7” of the year. Everyone else needs to step up their game if they want to compete with this in 2011. This is Brain F ≠’s second 7″ and even though it’s only two songs it kicks a lotta ass, like this record is really brilliant. I’ve already listened to it four times in a row and it doesn’t look I’m getting tired of it anytime soon. Super fuzzed out old sounding punk rock with dual vocals, it’s got lots of raw energy blasting out of it. Lyrically this record isn’t very uplifting but it’s a lot of fun to listen to. Go out of your way to get this one if you have to." - UNCLE CRITIC

UPCOMING RELEASES:
Here's a quick status update … DEEP SLEEP "Turn Me Off" LP had a slight delay, but it's being taken care of so expect an update on that soon (I'm waiting to make sure everything is ready to go with this release before opening up preorders).  BAD ADVICE vinyl is in, still trying to finalize the art. COKE BUST vinyl is also in, should have those ready in a few weeks.  THE SHIRKS vinyl should be in shortly, also trying to finish up art on that. Finally … GOVERNMENT WARNING "No Moderation" LP … yup, you guessed it - I have the vinyl but just waiting on the covers. I'm hoping that all of these will be ready and shipping by this time next month, so keep an eye out for updates!

Anyways, thanks for your patience as I get these new releases finished … hopefully they'll be available sooner rather than later!

Thanks for reading!

GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS 2011

Happy New Year! Here is the first webstore / label update of 2011 (which technically should have been done in 2010, but oh well) ... this update is pretty jam packed, so hopefully you can make it through to the end ...

I. LABEL UPDATE / 2011 RELEASES
II. GOVERNMENT WARNING / NIGHT BIRDS - Feb. Mini Tour
III. BLACK FRIDAY SALE - STILL GOING
IV. WEBSTORE UPDATE!

I. LABEL UPDATE / 2011 RELEASES

My plan was to spread my releases out nicely over 2010 ... then something went horribly wrong with that plan, but the good news is I'm going to be starting 2011 on a VERY busy (but also very exciting) note! Here is what you can expect very soon:

BRAIN F≠ "So Dim" 7" (GRAVE044) will be out next week ... these came out perfect and I'm really excited to have it be the first GRAVE MISTAKE release for 2011.  This is their second 7" single (their first came out a month ago on STATIC SHOCK in the UK, I'll have copies of that available next week as well), and both of their records are mandatory buys for the beginning of the year in my opinion. First pressing is 500 copies, 100 on Red for mailorder.

DEEP SLEEP "Turn Me Off" LP/CD (GRAVE042) is slated for a January 25th release date and it's looking like this should be on schedule ... this record has been about a year in the making, and it's been worth every minute waiting for DEEP SLEEP's first 12" to be finished. This is hands down their best stuff to date, if you were into their last two singles (Manic Euphoria and Paranoid Futures) then this LP should be a no brainer for you.  Once I get word that everything is scheduled to arrive on time, I'll probably do a little preorder a few weeks before they start shipping ... I'll have limited WHITE vinyl for the mailorder customers.  There will also be a European Pressing handled by our good friends at TAKEN BY SURPRISE.

BAD ADVICE "Do Not Resuscitate" 7" (GRAVE043), which is over TWO years in the making, will finally see the light of day within the next few months.  For those who don't know, BAD ADVICE started playing around 2007 or so here in Richmond and feature Tony Bitch from The Ladies on vocals, Eric and Brandon from Government Warning / Direct Control taking up guitar duties, and Keith from The Ladies and Colin from Cloak/Dagger filling out the rhythm section ... the 7" is four track of killer hardcore punk that I can't wait for everyone to hear.  Hopefully this record coming out will motivate them to play a few more shows, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.  This will be a split with TENSION HEAD RECORDS.

COKE BUST "Degradation" 7" (GRAVE046) will also be out within the next month or so ... released on the one and only REFUSE RECORDS in Europe this past fall, I was given the honor of handling the US pressing.  This ep is crushing, and is easily my favorite stuff from them to date.

THE SHIRKS "Cry Cry Cry" 7" (GRAVE045) is right around the corner as well.  This is EP number four from one of Washington DC's finest and features three more catchy and killer guitar driven punk rock and roll tunes with 70's punk feel; Terminal Boredom might have put it best in a review of their last 7" referring to the bands style as "East Coast tough-as-shit leather jacket punk bad ass-ness" ... while I'm not 100% sure what that means, I can't really disagree with it either because it sounds perfect.  I love all of their singles, but (as you can guess) this one is my favorite of the lot!

GOVERNMENT WARNING "No Moderation" LP (GRAVE047)- what year is it? Yeah it's 2011, not 2006 ... after being out of print for a little while, Feral Ward was kind enough to hand this nasty little ripper of an LP over to me for future repressings ... not much that needs to be said (or that I can really say impartially) ... I do think it's safe to say that No Moderation is the the critic's choice when it comes to GW records, so I felt obligated to give the people what they want.  Glad to have it available again for those that might have missed it the first time around, or those that had to sell their original copies for rent and/or drug money.

Anyways, that's about it for the beginning of 2011 preview ... let's hope all of this stuff arrives on time because I can't wait to get it in your hands ...

III. BLACK FRIDAY SALE

WEBSTORE UP AND RUNNING

The webstore has been fixed so order away ... hoping for a new update late tonight / tomorrow!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! WEBSTORE ISSUES ...

I was hoping to address everyone for the first time in 2011 with something a little bit more exciting, but looks like this will be it for now. Looks like the US Postal Service has changed some settings causing an error in my webstore. It will be fixed shortly, so just sit tight for now. I'll have a pretty sweet update this week as well ... also I'm going to let the "Black Friday" sale run through the end of the week as well since I have yet to do another update since then.

I hope everyone has had a safe and happy new year so far, expect a lot of stuff from GRAVE MISTAKE in the upcoming months!

Alex

BLACK FRIDAY WEBSTORE SALE!!!!

BLACK FRIDAY! What a neat excuse to sell a whole bunch of cool stuff for a really cheap price!! I never got around to doing one of these in previous years, so I figured might as well make the first GRAVE MISTAKE BLACK FRIDAY SALE a good one!

So ... what exactly do I have for you? First off, I put some crazy cheap prices on over 300 distro 7"s, LPs, and CDs!!! 7"s from $2-3, 12"s from $5-7 and CDs from $3-5 ...  there is a TON of great stuff in that mix. These prices will be good until the end of next week ... but keep in mind some of this stuff I only have one or two copies left, so if you see something you want I suggest you grab it because it might not be there later.  All of these distro items are NEW stock copies ... a good excuse to check out a record you've been hesitant to pick up, buy back records you had to sell for rent/drug/beer/food money, buy a record for a friend or significant other, take a chance on something that you have NO CLUE what it sounds like!  All of the sale distro items can be found here:

GRAVE MISTAKE BLACK FRIDAY BLOWOUT SALE!

Second, pretty much EVERY GRAVE MISTAKE title (with the exception of I think 2 or 3) is on sale ... you can check those prices here ... these prices will also be good through next Saturday.  Most of the 7"s are $3.00, LPs are $8.00, and CDs are CHEAP.  You can browse those HERE:

GRAVE MISTAKE RELEASES ON SALE

Finally, I put up some pretty killer new package deals, and lowered the price on a few others!! Check em out:

Any 10 GRAVE MISTAKE 7"s for $25
GOVERNMENT WARNING "Paranoid Mess and WASTED TIME "Futility" LP - both for $12
DC HARDCORE package (five 7"s and a CD) ... $13 on sale from $16
DEEP SLEEP PACKAGE (all three EPs and the CD) $10 on sale from $13

These package deals will only be good until the end of the weekend, and can be found in both of the categories mentioned above.  Shipping is not included on these packages, and will be calculated when you check out.  INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS please remember you CANNOT select "Flat Rate" shipping on any order with an LP or 12" vinyl.

I know it's sort of corny to do this sale stuff ... but oh well. It's a good reason to sell some cool records for cheap and I can't see anyone complaining about getting records for cheaper than normal.  I've got a TON of awesome new stuff coming up for 2011 so this will make the financial burden on putting out those new releases a bit lighter ... as always your support is appreciated more than you know!

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season ... expect a detailed GRAVE MISTAKE update / year end recap sometime in early December.
