First off, as you probably already have heard, is the DEEP SLEEP "Turn Me Off" LP … I've had a preorder running for a few weeks now, but these are FINALLY moving out the door. All preorders have been shipped so thanks to anyone that was waiting patiently for their copy.  I still have a handful of WHITE VINYL left, so if you've been slacking you still have a chance to grab colored vinyl. 

After three 7" singles, it feels like quite the accomplishment to have a DEEP SLEEP release in the 12" format … this LP picks up right where their last two singles left off; pretty much everything you've come to expect from a DEEP SLEEP release, but I mean that in the best way possible because this record definitely not rehashing any old material … each of these ten new songs each bring something new to the table … check it out and see for yourself!

Our friends at TAKEN BY SURPRISE Records in Germany have been nice enough to handle a European pressing, so if that's easier for you then please hit them up to pick up a copy!

Second, the US pressing of the COKE BUST "Degradation" 7" is FINALLY ready to roll! The european version came out back in the fall on REFUSE RECORDS for the band's European tour, and I'm thrilled to finally have this record available here in the US.  DEGRADATION delivers six brand new devastating blasts of head splitting hardcore clocking in at around five minutes … COKE BUST just continues to get better and better, and I feel that this new EP is definitely their best record to date (and definitely my favorite!) … this will definitely be a pleaser for the preexisting fans, and might even attract a bit more attention from those who have been sleeping on the band. I've got some nice WHITE VINYL for this release as well … so grab that while you can. 

Finally, for my third new release … well technically it isn't even a "new" record … is a repressing of the GOVERNMENT WARNING "No Moderation" LP … originally released on FERAL WARD back in 2006, the record definitely received a lot of attention and positive feedback when it first came out. It's been out of print for a little while now, and Yannick / Feral Ward (who has been busy cranking out one incredible new release after the next) was nice enough to let me take care of repressing the LP to keep it in print and available for all. 

Obviously, anything positive I would want to say about this release would just sort of have me coming off as an egomaniac … so I'm just going to say that in all of my years playing in bands and putting out records, NO MODERATION is probably my personal favorite and the one that means the most to me (for many reasons which I won't get into here) … I also think it's a damn fine hardcorepunkmetal record, and I hope you do to … either way I'm going to try my hardest to make sure it stays readily available for years to come.

I was just going to repress it on black vinyl, but I figured might as well have some fun with it so I did 100 on CLEAR BLUE vinyl … and those are now available in the webstore.  Other than a few minor layout tweaks and different center labels, this is basically identical to the original version … we also went back to the all black cover, that weird green/black split on the cover of the last pressing wasn't really my style.

Before I go … here are some other quick news blurbs for you …

- the BRAIN F≠ "So Dim" 7" is almost sold out of the first press … thanks to anyone who has picked up a copy and if you haven't yet, please do soon! The 7" has been getting a ton of awesome feedback, this is definitely a band to keep an eye on because this and their "Restraining Order" 7" are just the beginning … expect more great things from them in the near future.

- I just added a TON of new distro stuff to the webstore (I will actually have a separate update following this one) … new records from NIGHT BIRDS, FY FAN, MUCH WORSE, HERATYS, STATE POISON, LOW THREAT PROFILE, RECKLESS AGGRESSION, and a bunch more. Plus a TON of restocks as well … check the full list in my webstore email

- Still more New releases in the pipe; The Shirks "Cry Cry Cry" 7" will be out hopefully in about three weeks. Vinyl has been here for a bit and we just finalized the artwork … this is 7" number 4 for DC's The Shirks and (as I'm sure I've said before) my personal favorite … a triple A-side single if you will. The Bad Advice "Do Not Resuscitate" 7" will also hopefully see the light of day this month as well … it's been way too long in the making and it's such a ripper of a single that it's a shame it's taken this long to get it out to everyone ... but I can assure you that the wait will have been well worth it.

After those two, we'll see a pretty rad CD singles collection from NIGHT BIRDS … "Fresh Kills Vol. 1" will contain 15 tracks, all of the material from their Killer Waves (AOTU) single, S/T 7", Midnight Movies 7", and their demo … I got the final master a week or so ago and realized that it's the first time I've had all of their material in one place … so needless to say I've been listening to it nonstop. In other NIGHT BIRDS news, the band is currently recording their LP which should be out early summer (more info on that later).

Finally … we are going to get cracking on the first of two reissues from THE THUMBS, which will be the ten song "All Lesser Devils Sessions" … we've acquired the final mixes from the studio where the EP was originally recording many years ago, and we have some pretty rad plans for packaging / insert but more on that as it develops; hoping for a summertime release! After that, we'll see a 12" collection from 86 MENTALITY … this will essentially be the "Goin Nowhere Fast" collection that came out on CD in 2005; both 7"s (On The Loose which has been OOP for a while, and the S/T which I have maybe 30 copies left), the non 7" demo track, 2 non EP tracks from the On The Loose Session, 2 covers, and a couple of live songs … while the music won't be new, we will hopefully have a fresh new layout and some cool updated retrospective liner notes from the band.  No set release date on that yet, but probably sometime this summer or early fall if things go as planned.

That's right ladies and gents ... GOVERNMENT WARNING and NIGHT BIRDS Northeast extended weekend tour is upon us ... please come out!  These will more than likely be GW's last shows in these areas; they've all treated us well in the past so these shows should be no exception.  Even if you aren't as punk as you were in 2006, we still want to see you...

DEEP SLEEP "Turn Me Off" LP Now Available for PREORDER!!!!

That's right friends - it's been a good year in the making, but the debut LP from Baltimore's one and only DEEP SLEEP is finally available for order!!! I can't tell you how thrilled I am or how excited (and a little relieved) it makes me to be making this official announcement, but this 12" is finally finished and came out perfect!  I can honestly say that, while I was expecting nothing less than greatness from the band on this record, they surpassed my expectations and I'm just glad to finally be able to get it out to the masses. 

For all of the early birds and mailorder lovers I have some nice WHITE VINYL (300 copies pressed) available now … aside from the advanced run we did for THE FEST back in October of 2010, this will be the only limited version so if you are into that sort of thing then grab it while you can!  The LP also comes with a pretty rad 12x24 inch poster insert and a Download Card … the full package!

Ok ... here is the fine print so please read carefully. The bad news is that yes, this is a "preorder" meaning you will have to wait a couple of weeks to get your grubby little mitts on it. The GOOD news is that this bad boy is finished and I have 1000 copies sitting in my apartment as I type this. As timing would have it, I'll be headed out on tour next week with GOVERNMENT WARNING and NIGHT BIRDS (I might have some copies with me) so I will not have time to get the orders packed up. Hence the "preorder" status here ... but rest assured I am not waiting on anything from the plant or the printer, these things are ready to roll.

Orders will begin shipping the week of Feb 21st. Anyone who has ordered from me before knows that I try my hardest to get everything out in a timely manner, but please be patient as I generally have a decent amount of orders around a new release. BRAIN F≠ "So Dim b/w Symptom Set" 7" (GRAVE044) OUT NOW!

 

Well here it is, the first of many new GRAVE MISTAKE releases for 2011! I'm extremely thrilled to bring you the second 7" single from Charlotte, NC's BRAIN F≠ … "So Dim / Symptom Set"  is an overblown mindfuck of garage punk goodness;  furious overdriven guitars, booming rhythm section, killer dual female / male vocals … after releasing a very impressive demo last year under the moniker BRAIN FLANNEL, they released their debut "Restraining Order" 7" on the UK's STATIC SHOCK last month and have been hard at work writing and recording new material for an LP later this year.

North Carolina’s BRAIN F≠ bring you their second single; “SO DIM” b/w “SYMPTOM SET” is a double A-sided banger with all the overdriven/overloaded guitar fury of TEENGENERATE or ZERO BOYS and the angry female-fronted charm you love from so many DANGERHOUSE & early L.A. singles. Massive rhythm section a la AVENGERS and NERVOUS EATERS, hook-filled & danceable, the hardest of core. Hostile, angry fun - the perfect follow up to their debut 7" on Static Shock (UK).

BRAIN F≠ "Restraining Order B/W God No" 7" (STATIC SHOCK)
Following from a well received demo tape (under the name Brain Flannel), the debut 7” from North Carolina, USA’s Brain F (featuring members of Logic Problem and Grids) is now available to order. This two track 45 kicks off with Restraining Order, which was originally on the demo, and definitely one of the more catchy tracks to be committed to vinyl this year. I saw them described once as “when X (US), X (Australia), Teengenerate and Messthetics collide”, and as dumb as that may sound, it actually makes sense. The songs are bass driven, have scratchy guitar-work and have really impressive interloping male/female vocals that make this stand out.

If my word isn't good enough, here are some reviews in case you need more convincing:

"North Carolina's BRAIN F offer up two cuts of jangly, abrasive punk on their second single.  Each side of this 45 spins by in two minutes, loud and in-the-red.  Dueling male/female vocals shout out above trebly guitars and blown out drumming.  There's a definite "wave" inflection in BRAIN F's sound, though it's nasty and subversive.  Think of groups like LOST SOUNDS or THE SPITS.  This is scum music played by intellectuals who have created something primal, yet evolved.  With each spin of the record you realize there is a little more to BRAIN F than you thought there was at first." - GOT MYSELF ZINE

Super fuzzed out old sounding punk rock with dual vocals, it’s got lots of raw energy blasting out of it. Lyrically this record isn’t very uplifting but it’s a lot of fun to listen to. Here's a quick status update … DEEP SLEEP "Turn Me Off" LP had a slight delay, but it's being taken care of so expect an update on that soon (I'm waiting to make sure everything is ready to go with this release before opening up preorders).  BAD ADVICE vinyl is in, still trying to finalize the art. COKE BUST vinyl is also in, should have those ready in a few weeks.  THE SHIRKS vinyl should be in shortly, also trying to finish up art on that. Finally … GOVERNMENT WARNING "No Moderation" LP … yup, you guessed it - I have the vinyl but just waiting on the covers. I'm hoping that all of these will be ready and shipping by this time next month, so keep an eye out for updates!

GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS 2011

Happy New Year! Here is the first webstore / label update of 2011 (which technically should have been done in 2010, but oh well) ... this update is pretty jam packed, so hopefully you can make it through to the end ...

I. LABEL UPDATE / 2011 RELEASES

My plan was to spread my releases out nicely over 2010 ... then something went horribly wrong with that plan, but the good news is I'm going to be starting 2011 on a VERY busy (but also very exciting) note! Here is what you can expect very soon:

BRAIN F≠ "So Dim" 7" (GRAVE044) will be out next week ... these came out perfect and I'm really excited to have it be the first GRAVE MISTAKE release for 2011.  This is their second 7" single (their first came out a month ago on STATIC SHOCK in the UK, I'll have copies of that available next week as well), and both of their records are mandatory buys for the beginning of the year in my opinion. First pressing is 500 copies, 100 on Red for mailorder.

DEEP SLEEP "Turn Me Off" LP/CD (GRAVE042) is slated for a January 25th release date and it's looking like this should be on schedule ... this record has been about a year in the making, and it's been worth every minute waiting for DEEP SLEEP's first 12" to be finished. This is hands down their best stuff to date, if you were into their last two singles (Manic Euphoria and Paranoid Futures) then this LP should be a no brainer for you.  Once I get word that everything is scheduled to arrive on time, I'll probably do a little preorder a few weeks before they start shipping ... I'll have limited WHITE vinyl for the mailorder customers.  There will also be a European Pressing handled by our good friends at TAKEN BY SURPRISE.

BAD ADVICE "Do Not Resuscitate" 7" (GRAVE043), which is over TWO years in the making, will finally see the light of day within the next few months.  For those who don't know, BAD ADVICE started playing around 2007 or so here in Richmond and feature Tony Bitch from The Ladies on vocals, Eric and Brandon from Government Warning / Direct Control taking up guitar duties, and Keith from The Ladies and Colin from Cloak/Dagger filling out the rhythm section ... the 7" is four track of killer hardcore punk that I can't wait for everyone to hear.  Hopefully this record coming out will motivate them to play a few more shows, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.  This will be a split with TENSION HEAD RECORDS.

COKE BUST "Degradation" 7" (GRAVE046) will also be out within the next month or so ... released on the one and only REFUSE RECORDS in Europe this past fall, I was given the honor of handling the US pressing.  This ep is crushing, and is easily my favorite stuff from them to date.

THE SHIRKS "Cry Cry Cry" 7" (GRAVE045) is right around the corner as well.  This is EP number four from one of Washington DC's finest and features three more catchy and killer guitar driven punk rock and roll tunes with 70's punk feel; Terminal Boredom might have put it best in a review of their last 7" referring to the bands style as "East Coast tough-as-shit leather jacket punk bad ass-ness" ... while I'm not 100% sure what that means, I can't really disagree with it either because it sounds perfect.  I love all of their singles, but (as you can guess) this one is my favorite of the lot!

GOVERNMENT WARNING "No Moderation" LP (GRAVE047)- what year is it? Yeah it's 2011, not 2006 ... after being out of print for a little while, Feral Ward was kind enough to hand this nasty little ripper of an LP over to me for future repressings ... not much that needs to be said (or that I can really say impartially) ... I do think it's safe to say that No Moderation is the the critic's choice when it comes to GW records, so I felt obligated to give the people what they want.  Glad to have it available again for those that might have missed it the first time around, or those that had to sell their original copies for rent and/or drug money.

Anyways, that's about it for the beginning of 2011 preview ... let's hope all of this stuff arrives on time because I can't wait to get it in your hands ...

II. GOVERNMENT WARNING / NIGHT BIRDS - Feb. Mini Tour

Yup, you heard right, after laying low for a while GOVERNMENT WARNING is planning one final trek up north with our good friends NIGHT BIRDS.  These WILL be the last GW shows out of Richmond (a final Richmond show will hopefully be in the works sometime in the spring) ... we would love to see anyone and everyone at these shows, the lineups are all sick and we always had a blast playing these places so please come out if you can. HAPPY NEW YEAR! WEBSTORE ISSUES ...

I was hoping to address everyone for the first time in 2011 with something a little bit more exciting, but looks like this will be it for now. Looks like the US Postal Service has changed some settings causing an error in my webstore. It will be fixed shortly, so just sit tight for now. I'll have a pretty sweet update this week as well ... also I'm going to let the "Black Friday" sale run through the end of the week as well since I have yet to do another update since then.

I hope everyone has had a safe and happy new year so far, expect a lot of stuff from GRAVE MISTAKE in the upcoming months!
