WEBSTORE UPDATE 12.15.11! New CULO, MARVELOUS DARLINGS, and MORE!

2011 is almost over!! First off, many thanks to anyone who ordered something during the BLACK FRIDAY sale I ran last month, the response to it was overwhelming! Hopefully everyone is happy with their purchases.  Second, thanks to everyone who has supported GRAVE MISTAKE this year especially, either by checking out some of the label's releases from this year, or picking up something from the webstore - it's appreciated more than you know. 2011 was a pretty busy and eventful year for the label and I couldn't have done it without your support! 2012 is looking to be just as busy, if not busier, so keep an eye out for some updates in the near future.

I'm sure everyone is busy gearing up for the holidays and is out spending their hard earned cash (if you haven't spent it all already!), but I needed to sneak a couple more updates in before the year is up (hopefully I'll have one more right before the New Year as well) ... the new releases and distro titles just keep on piling up!

This update isn't too overwhelming, so I'll try and keep it brief. First off, some awesome new releases from DERANGED, including singles compilation LPs from both MARVELOUS DARLINGS and CULO; New LPs worth checking out from UNLEARN, PORKERIA and WARNING/WARNING; an reissue of early material from Holland's FUNERAL ORATION; finally picked up some copies of that latest FUCKED UP double LP along with a couple of JAY REATARD LPs from the fine folks at MATADOR; some cool singles from CREAMERS, HOUNDS OF HATE, and more; picked up a bunch of SUNDAZED titles, classic garage / surf / psyche from bands like CHOCOLATE WATCH BAND, BLUE CHEER, DICK DALE, THE TRASHMEN, THE SONICS, SHADOWS OF KNIGHT, LOVE, and more! Finally, some demos and zines to round it all out ...

Some restocks of note include the NEW BREED TAPE COMPILATION 2xLP, the TERRIBLE FEELINGS "Blank Heads" 7", the IMPALERS demo tape, and although I don't have them YET, I'm expecting a restock of the POISON IDEA "Darby Crash Rides Again" LP any day now ... so keep checking back if you have yet to pick that one up because more are on the way!

That's all for now, thanks for reading and everyone please have a safe and happy holidays! If all goes well, you'll be hearing from me in a few weeks with one final update to end 2011!!!

NEW FOR 12/15/11

CULO "LIFE IS VILE...AND SO ARE WE" LP (DERANGED)
‘Life Is Vile … And So Are We’ compiles CULO’s three sold out 7"s (Nuke Abuse, Military Trend, and Toxic Vision) plus nine bonus tracks from the same recording sessions which were previously only available on limited tape releases or not at all. Total piss and vinegar hardcore delivered at high velocity and at no expense to catchy riffing.  This is a hardcore punk monster and absolutely mandatory! Comes with full color newsprint poster and download card.

MARVELOUS DARLINGS "SINGLE LIFE" LP (DERANGED)
For the uninitiated, the Marvelous Darlings features Ben Cook from FUCKED UP doing some of the best 77’punk meets power pop since the EXPLODING HEARTS.  Single Life compiles a string of 7" vinyl releases by the Darlings, which have all now long sold out.  As great as the singles are on their own, this is one of those cases where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.  CD format and download coupon (for LP) includes 5 bonus demo takes of their hits.

UNLEARN "S/T" LP (DERANGED)
Posthumous album by Vancouver’s noisy raw punks. Follow-up If you’ve witnessed this bands live set you already know what to expect. A loud and noisy fury of raw punk leveling everything in their path. Vocals distorted in anguish and a wall of guitars tweaked to ear splitting frequencies held down with an impressive d-beat attack. These guys are definitely into Disclose and Meanwhile.

PORKERIA "LA MIERDA DE SIEMPRE" LP (ADELANTE)
Mexican/Latino raw punk from deep south Texas!!! Featuring ex-BASTARD SONS of APOCALYPSE. Ten tracks of hardcore punk/ punk rock that at times is fast and blistering and is also melodic and catchy. Their style is very similar to the early second-wave of UK '82 and international punk like G.B.H., Appendix, and R.I.P.

FUNERAL ORATION "THE GODSEND" LP (GUMMOPUNX)
This is the vinyl-version of FUNERAL ORATIONs´ "godsend demo" from 1984, which was only available on it´s original tape-format and as a very shitty bootleg released a few years ago! The material on this demo is one of the best and intense recordings FUNERAL ORATION ever did and it´s a pity that it hasn´t been available as a proper release in the last 20 years! For those who are not familiar with the band: FUNERAL ORATION were one of the longest running and most influential bands from holland playing snotty and angry punk/hardcore, which became very special through the melodic vocals! They also could be called the european version of HÜSKER DÜ!  This material has the combination of snotty/raging hardcore punk mixed with melodic vocals, maybe like Agent Orange (the Dutch one!) mixed with early Bad Religion-esque vocals? If 'What We Want Is Free'-era Articles Of Faith and early Husker Du? gets you going, definitely consider checking this out. Comes with liner notes and lyric sheet. You can see that this was a bit of a labor of love for everyone involved.

WARNING/WARNING "THERE'S NOTHING LEFT" LP (SOLAR FUNERAL)
11 nuclear ear blasts of noise punk from Bordeaux, France, taking influence from bands like Gai and Lebenden Toten. The sound is noisy, but not without a catchiness and attention to songwriting that most bands playing "raw punk" lack.

FUCKED UP "DAVID COMES TO LIFE" 2LP (MATADOR)
Right from the start, Toronto’s Fucked Up have been pushing musical and conceptual boundaries. Their third album, the 18-song, 78-minute David Comes To Life, is a rock opera, an album set to a play. Though no less monumental, it is far more melodic than their breakthrough The Chemistry of Common Life. There are more female vocals, which work in perfect contrast to Damian Abraham’s highly effective wounded bull growl. The band sound tighter, with more space for the flourishes and imaginative songwriting that entwine their love of British indie pop with heavy riffing, and some genuinely twisted turns. Perhaps most grippingly, the triple-guitar interplay between Mike Haliechuk, Josh Zucker and Ben Cook has risen to symphonic levels. They channel musicians from Angus Young, Pete Townshend and Noel Gallagher to Bob Stinson and Lyle Preslar with ease and grace. As for the story, more on that to come...

JAY REATARD "WATCH ME FALL" LP (MATADOR)
For his second studio album and proper Matador debut, Memphis prolific punk wunderkind Jay Reatard has moved beyond his roots and recorded an album chockful of irresistible melodies, the songs cascading with joyous hooks. He would not be Jay Reatard, however, if there wasn’t a certain aggro negativity, and the song titles and lyrics do much to undercut the pop sensibility: I’m Watching You, Hang Them All, Can’t Do It Anymore, Wounded, It Ain’t Gonna Save Me.  The perfect summer album for disaffected youth across the country, Jay will be trekking from coast to coast all summer with his ex-In The Red labelmates The Oh Sees and TV Smith (of the Adverts).

JAY REATARD "MATADOR SINGLES '08" LP (MATADOR)
This collection collects all 6 7"s from the Matador singles series (with the exception of the Deerhunter track on #4), plus one extra song (13 in all). Every song is a perfect snarling pop-punk gem, but the collection evolves interestingly (and erratically) from punk to pop.

COPYRIGHTS, THE "NORTH SENTINEL ISLAND" LP (IT'S ALIVE)
It's hard to believe it has been eight years since The Copyrights released their first album way back in 2003. Pop punk had long since burst onto the scene, into the big leagues and retreated back to the basements by then, leaving behind the last of the diehards.  Among those diehards were The Copyrights. Still teenagers then, these guys took everything good about the old style and made it new again... and better than ever. They were among the first of a few young bands to really take pop punk, turn it on its end and redefine the genre.  Eight years, a slew of singles and five full length albums later they are still at it. They continue to define and redefine the genre with each successive album. No two Copyrights albums sound exactly the same, but they are all unmistakably Copyrights through and through. Bands like this make sticking to the music you love despite all of its lows worth it every day.  North Sentinel Island is the best Copyrights album to date. But ask any Copyrights fan and they will have said the same about each new album when it came out. They aren't wrong - this band just gets better and better with each new record.

HOUNDS OF HATE "NO REDEMPTION" 7" (KATORGA WORKS)
No Redemption is the debut 7" from Braddock, PA/NYC's Hounds of Hate. Featuring current and former members of CREEM, Natural Law, and Pissed Jeans, Hounds of Hate plays unrepentantly straight edge hardcore in the vein of late 80s NYHC, particularly that of Sick of It All and Warzone with a production striving for a sound akin to the Free For All comp.

CREAMERS "SLOW BURN" 7" (SECRET BEACH)
The second EP from Austin’s CREAMERS packs the snarl and immediacy of their first record with a slightly hookier and more frantic sound. KBD-style punk with some of best and most cynical lyrics in hardcore today. Comes with a righteous double-sided poster-sized insert and one of the sides has a drawing of a knife cutting eyes out of a heart, okay?

SALTED CITY "REBIRTH" 7" (ADELANTE)
Portland, Oregon, does it again with this four-song EP rager. Featuring current members of WARCRY and TALK IS POISON, and also featuring ex-members of CALL THE POLICE, this little slab drops four hard hitting d-beat/ hardcore punk tunes that will stick in your brain for weeks. As is mostly the case with punk bands from this particular city in the Northwest of the country, this EP is drenched in that distinct PDX sound with thick, heavy, and dark guitars, a tough rhythm section to boot, and strong female vocals that really tie everything in on this wax assault!

PANZRAM "A NEW MENTAL DISORDER FOR YOUTH IN DISAPPROVAL" 7" (DRUGGED CONSCIENCE)
Three new tracks from Ft Myers FL, a town void of inspiration or culture. A truly bleak place for a bleak band to emerge. Featuring 2/4ths of Merkit, Panzram cut through brooding hardcore in vain of BORN AGAINST or MILHOUSE.  From shouted to sung to screamed, both members on vocal duty. This single keeps with the concept of humans regaling their pitiful human achievements or originality, guitarist John Fahy tongue-in cheekily shouting "DON’T DROP THE NEWBORN, WEED CREATIVITY.BUT WE BUILT THE HOOVER DAM!, BUT WE BUILT THE WORLD TRADE CENTERS! ABORTED MAN, ABORTED MAN! I WANNA TRAVEL AFTER I GRADUATE". The final song on side B is a Psychedelic Furs cover of "THE FALL", a song on the similar topic. A one time pressing of 500 copies with two color silk screened covers.

SFN "ITCHING" 7" (DRUGGED CONSCIENCE)
Latest blasting & pummeling from Wisconsin's SFN. These guys have been around a long time and have really found their sound on this recording. For fans of No Comment, Despise You, etc.

COPYRIGHTS, THE "CRUTCHES" 7" (IT'S ALIVE)
Crutches is the first single off of The Copyrights' newest album North Sentinel Island. Like all of their jams it is both instantly recognizable as a Copyrights song at the same time just different enough from previous works to keep you guessing where they are going with it. Having already heard the new album, Crutches is really much more of a teaser than a indicator of what's to come. The safest bet is just to expect the best because every longtime Copyrights fan will tell you each successive album is better than the one before and North Sentinel Island is no exception to that rule. The flipside of this EP contains two demo tracks that didn't make the cut for the final recording of the new album; One a straight forward punk jam. The other a total pop ballad. A band that can nail it both ways is definitely doing something right.

MAXIES, THE "GOING CLUBBIN" 7" (IT'S ALIVE)
Greenland is melting! Is global warming to blame? Definitely. But it's not climate shift... it's the motherfucking Maxies! These assholes may be jerks of the highest order, but they sure know how to melt faces (and polar ice caps) with their power pop punk jams! It's Alive Records in incredibly proud to present The Maxies' first domestic release, Going Clubbin'. Having already dominated the airwaves of Greenland and Iceland (Fuck those guys!), The Maxies have taken their act south in an effort to attain world domination. Their weapons of choice? Killer hooks, infectious melodies, bad attitudes and ridiculous costumes. This band's better than your band. That's all you need to know.

MALL'D TO DEATH "THE PROCESS OF REACHING OUT" 7" (IT'S ALIVE)
Mall'd To Death is what happens when you take that Minneapolis punk rock Dillinger-core sound, add some Jeff Ott-esque vocal growlings, mix in some mid-nineties melodic punk sound of the EpiFat variety (complete with the occasional ska-punk breakdown!), put together some meaningful songs about life and personal politics, follow those up with some silly songs about important shit like video games and graffiti, and then round it all out with some of that good ol' J Church! It's like Mall Punk if "Mall Punk" meant a little bit of everything under one roof. I was totally taken by surprise and blown away by Mall'd To Death's debut full length Can't Make A Living released last year on CD by GC Records on and then on vinyl earlier this year by Bitter Melody Records. The Process Of Reaching Out is Mall'd To Death's second release of what I hope to be many more to come. I don't know of another band out there that really sounds anything like these guys. It's fresh; and in that way reminds me of when I was first discovering punk rock.

CITY MOUSE "S/T" 7" (IT'S ALIVE)
City Mouse has been kicking around for quite a few years now. Though the line-up has seen many changes over time, the awesomeness of the passionate and heavy-hitting songs has constantly been improving with each new incarnation of the band. Mainstay front-woman Miski Dee Rodriguez knows how to write a solid pop jam and can belt out the whoa-mama lead vocals like nobody's business! The four tracks that make up this s/t vinyl debut release are reminiscent of the mid-nineties pop punk rock n roll that was being played by some of the toughest ladies of punk rock from the midwest and upper south at the time - powerful, sultry lead vocals over an incredibly melodic, driving rhythm. Danzig-approved.

YOUR PEST BAND "GROUND ZERO" 7" (SNUFFY SMILES)
The E.P for their U.S tour in September 2011. 3 new songs and 2 cover songs of “please mr.postman” and “punk guy” by NOFX. It's a very good stuff to know them at first time. Best recording too.

PIXIES "DOOLITTLE" LP (4AD)
Doolittle is the second studio album from the American alternative rock band Pixies, released in April 1989 on 4AD. The album's offbeat and dark subject material, featuring references to surrealism, Biblical violence, torture and death, contrasts with the clean production sound achieved by the newly hired producer Gil Norton. Doolittle was the Pixies' first international release, with Elektra Records acting as the album's distributor in the United States and PolyGram in Canada.  Pixies released two singles from Doolittle, "Here Comes Your Man" and "Monkey Gone to Heaven", both of which were chart successes on the US chart for Modern Rock Tracks. The album itself reached number eight on the UK Albums Chart, an unexpected success for the band. In retrospect, album tracks such as "Debaser", "Wave of Mutilation", "Monkey Gone to Heaven", "Gouge Away", and "Hey" are highly acclaimed by critics, while the album, along with debut LP Surfer Rosa, is often seen as the band's strongest work.  Doolittle has continued to sell consistently well in the years since its release, and in 1995 was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album has been cited as inspirational by many alternative artists, while numerous music publications have ranked it as one of the most influential albums ever. A 2003 poll of NME writers ranked Doolittle as the second-greatest album of all time, and Rolling Stone placed the album at 226 on its list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

PIXIES "SURFER ROSA" LP (4AD)
Surfer Rosa is the first full-length album by the American alternative rock band Pixies, released in March 1988 on the British independent record label 4AD.[2] The album's unusual and offbeat subject matter includes references to mutilation and voyeurism; this is augmented by experimental recording, low-fidelity production and a distinctive drum sound. Surfer Rosa contains many of the themes present in the Pixies' earlier output, including Spanish lyrics and references to Puerto Rico.  Surfer Rosa is often cited as a favorite of music critics, and is frequently included on professional lists of the all-time best rock albums. Many alternative rock artists, including PJ Harvey and Billy Corgan, have cited the album as inspirational; Nirvana's Kurt Cobain frequently acknowledged that Surfer Rosa was a strong influence on Nevermind, and in 1993 hired the album's producer Steve Albini to produce his band's album In Utero.

CHOCOLATE WATCH BAND "THE INNER MYSTIQUE" LP (SUNDAZED)
The Inner Mystique, the hypnotic second album by the Chocolate Watch Band, takes up exactly where its sacred predecessor left you: looking for your perfect match at the local Love-In. When Watch Band lead singer par excellence Dave Aguilar grabs you by the lapels and tells you "I'm Not Everybody Else," you have no choice but to believe him. He's not. And when he cools down enough to extol the virtues of "Medication," who could doubt his sincerity? Especially when he stokes the fires to the boiling-point where medication may not really make much difference. But the real stunner here is the Watch Band's exhilarating cover of Bobby D's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue." In typical CWB interpretive bliss, nobody has ever done this hallowed song any better. Not Bob Dylan, not Van Morrison. Nobody.  A San Jose, Calif. band whose reputation has grown exponentially over the decades, the Chocolate Watch Band are now revered as one of the Seven Wonders of the World of garage rock. Spotlighting the classic lineup—the inflammatory vocals of Dave Aguilar and the roof-rattling guitars of Mark Loomis and Sean Tolby, fronting the rock-solid bass of Bill Flores and the letter-perfect drums of Gary Andrijasevich—the Watch Band's first two albums have it all. Stones swagger snake-hips its way through cosmic significance with just a dusting of eye-opening psychedelic legerdemain to make your neck snap backwards in pure joy.

BLUE CHEER "VINCEBUS ERUPTUM" LP (SUNDAZED)
Blue Cheer looms large in the annals of hard rock, laying down the sonic foundations of heavy metal, and serving as a crucial influence on the birth of punk, grunge and stoner rock. While the rest of the rock world was mellowing out and embracing the spirit of the Summer of Love, the seminal San Francisco power trio was churning out ballsy blues-rock anthems whose fuzz-heavy, adrenaline-charged intensity helped to alter the course of contemporary music.  Vincebus Eruptum, Blue Cheer’s landmark 1968 debut, is widely regarded as Ground Zero of the heavy metal explosion. The album, featuring the classic Blue Cheer lineup of guitarist Leigh Stephens, bassist/vocalist Dickie Peterson and drummer Paul Whaley, includes the trio’s mind-melting reading of Eddie Cochran’s “Summertime Blues,” which became a Top 20 single, along with such raw, overdriven originals as “Doctor Please” and “Second Time Around” and distinctive reworkings of the blues standards “Rock Me Baby” and “Parchment Farm.” Long out of print on vinyl, with original copies trading for steep collectors’ prices, this legendary debut is available once again in its original format, complete with its unique original cover design.

DICK DALE "SUMMER SURF" LP (SUNDAZED)
The originator of the surf guitar sound returned in 1964 with another killer collection of instrumental and vocal tracks that perfectly captured California beach culture. Listen to the stinging glissandos on minor key mood piece “Tidal Wave” and then kick up some sand while dancing the hand jive to “Mama’s Gone Surfin’.” Regardless of what the weatherman says, it’s always summer with Summer Surf on the turntable!  Sourced from the original Capitol Records stereo masters, this Sundazed Music edition of Summer Surf is pressed on 180-gram vinyl and includes complete original artwork. Calling all Rebel Surfers!

JERRY COLE AND HIS SPACEMEN "SURF AGE" LP (SUNDAZED)
Could anything be better than surf music played by crazed spacemen? Not likely! And here’s the proof: guitar-wrangler Jerry Cole and His Spacemen’s stupidly rare 1964 LP, Surf Age! While most of Cole’s albums were cranked out at the astounding pace, Surf Age, was by comparison a production of epic proportions. For the sessions, Cole and his hand-picked all-star crew of LA studio cats labored to create an album unlike any other, an endlessly inventive amalgam of surf and ‘60s pop.  The original liner notes say it most eloquently: “One listen to the music of Jerry Cole and His Spacemen will tell you that theirs is the sound of the SURF AGE! Their beat is as dynamic as tomorrow’s crashing waves; their instrumental blend is as fresh and modern as tomorrow night’s surfing dance party; their tunes are definitely for swingin’ moderns." Numbered, limited edition of 1,000 copies on high-definition vinyl.

WE THE PEOPLE "TOO MUCH NOISE" LP (SUNDAZED)
Garage fans agree: We The People’s raging, tough-as-nails punk tracks “Mirror of Your Mind” and “You Burn Me Up and Down” rate among the era’s best. But believe it or not this band was capable of even more. Along with the above two hammer-down classics, Too Much Noise collates everything the seminal—and surprisingly diverse—Central Florida outfit cut for the Challenge label during the band’s mid-’60s heyday, including the raga-rock fave “In the Past” (covered by the Chocolate Watchband) and the tender folk-rock ballad “(You Are) The Color of Love.” Sourced from the original analog masters, here are We the People’s three scarce and essential Challenge single sides plus material recorded for the label but unreleased at the time—all of it in raw, skull-crushing fidelity on high-definition vinyl.

BUBBY PUPPLE "A GATHERING OF PROMISES" LP (SUNDAZED)
In 1969, Texas acid-psych warlords the Bubble Puppy burst onto the U.S. Top 20 with “Hot Smoke and Sasafrass,” the slashing, frenzied 2:33 freakout that kicks off the band’s brain-bending debut, A Gathering of Promises. Signed to Houston’s legendary International Artists imprint, the foursome were label mates of such hallowed acts as the 13th Floor Elevators and the Red Crayola. But A Gathering of Promises, the group’s sole International Artists album, stands out from the rest of the roster with its rich vocal harmonies and heavier, Cream/Hendrix/Who sound.  Descended from Corpus Christi garage kings the Bad Seeds, the Bubble Puppy’s trippedout calling card was its combination of soaring, fuzz-drenched guitars, frantic drumming, stop-on-a-dime arrangements, and tight, graceful harmonies. The Bubble Puppy may have been a one-hit wonder (and what a hit!) but after a trip through the manic “Lonely,” the cryptically twisting “I’ve Got to Reach You,” and the majestic, guitar-searing “Hurry Sundown,” any psych fan will be left scratching their head and wondering why—if they still have a head to scratch, that is.

LOVE "DA CAPO" LP (SUNDAZED)
1967’s Da Capo captured Love in a transitional phase, evolving from the frenetic garage folk of their debut album to the lush, psychedelic textures of their third release, Forever Changes. Da Capo’s first single, the tremolo drenched rave-up “Seven & Seven Is,” is a direct link to the energy and verve of the debut and rightfully became a garage-punk classic. In contrast, the Bryan Maclean-penned “Orange Skies,” with its subtle samba rhythms and exotic instrumentation, pointed the way forward for the group. Regarding the instrumentation, for this recording the band expanded to include Michael Stuart on drums and Tjay Cantrelli on flute and saxophone, while the band’s erstwhile drummer, Alban “Snoopy” Pfisterer, moved to harpsichord and organ. The closing song of side 1, “She Comes in Colors” features the larger combo to full effect in an intricate arrangement that foreshadowed the “baroque rock” of The Left Banke.  Side 2? Well, that’s a different story entirely! “Revelation,” the sole track on the second side, grew from a hard-driving live group jam, giving all the musicians a chance to improvise and elaborate on the song’s melodic lines. The side-long track was daring for the time, with only Bob Dylan’s “Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands” (from Blonde on Blonde) and Frank Zappa’s “The Return of the Son of Monster Magnet” (from Freak Out!) beating it to release. Incidentally, “Revelation”’s sonic similarity to the Rolling Stones’ “Going Home” may have been less than coincidence. The Stones saw Love perform the song live and, interestingly, both tracks were recorded at the same studio, RCA, studios a few months apart. Hey, it’s only rock and roll, right?  This legendary LP has been meticulously remastered by Sundazed from original Elektra analog session tapes and is presented on high-definition vinyl for your listening pleasure. Listen and revel in the revelation!

LOVE "S/T" LP (SUNDAZED)
After gigging around the Los Angeles scene for three years, Arthur Lee was ready for something different. Inspired by seeing The Byrds live, he decided to merge their folk-rock sound with the driving r&b he had been playing to create a new group, dubbed Love. Recruiting guitarists Johnny Echols and ex-Byrds roadie Bryan Maclean, bassist Ken Forssi and drummer Alban “Snoopy” Pfisterer, Love began recording their eponymous debut LP in January 1966. Their first single, Bacharach/David composition “My Little Red Book,” spotlights an insistent, menacing riff that sounds nothing like what their contemporaries were committing to vinyl. Other cuts highlight the writing talents of Lee and the band members, notably on Lee’s anti-drug essay “Signed, D.C.” and Maclean’s “Softly to Me.” Also included is their version of the rock standard “Hey Joe,” rivaling The Leaves’ hit version for power and sporting some lyric alterations. The group, which lived communally at the time in a house formerly owned by Boris Karloff (they are pictured in the house’s garden on the LP cover), quickly coalesced into one of the West Coast’s most influential and exciting groups; here is where it all began. Sundazed is proud to bring you this remastered classic, sourced from the original Elektra analog session tapes and lovingly pressed on high-definition vinyl.

SHADOWS OF KNIGHT "GLORIA" LP (SUNDAZED)
Originally forming as the Shadows in 1964, this band of Chicago high schoolers became the Shadows of Knight after learning of the great UK band already named the Shadows. It was an interesting coincidence, as all four band members, then attending Prospect High School (“Home of the Knights!”), were major British invasion fans. While the English bands were busy crafting their interpretation of American blues, The Shadows of Knight, in their own words, “re-added a Chicago touch” to the Brit sound. The resulting music, dubbed “blues-punk,” was a high-energy mix of Chess and Cheshire, Chicago meets London in a back alley garage. Lead singer Jim Sohns could snarl like Howlin’ Wolf and move like Mick Jagger, a wicked combination guaranteed to generate pubescent pandemonium. It was clear that this was a band that was going places.  For much of 1965, the place they went was the Cellar, a teen club in nearby Arlington Heights. They served as the venue’s house band for a six-month run, drawing hundreds of teenage fans every weekend. It was at one of these shows that Dunwich record executives saw the band performing a potent cover of Them’s “Gloria” and subsequently offered the band a recording contract.  Ultimately, the single sold over a million copies and became an enduring garage classic.  Fortunately, their club apprenticeship served them well when it came time to record Gloria!, their debut album. The revved-up versions of Chess Records classics they had worked up for the live set, like Muddy Waters’ “I’ve Got My Mojo Working,” Chuck Berry’s “Let It Rock” and Bo Diddley’s “Oh Yeah,” sounded positively explosive when committed to tape in the studio. Continuing the Chess theme, the album includes three Willie Dixon-composed blues standards: “(I’m Your) Hoochie Coochie Man,” “You Can’t Judge a Book By Looking at the Cover” and “I Just Want to Make Love to You.” Add John Lee Hooker’s classic “Boom Boom” and three self-penned rockers and you’ve got one hip-shakin’, rule-breakin’ inaugural LP!  Sourced directly from the original Dunwich master tapes for the first time in over three decades, this Sundazed edition of Gloria! sounds more glorious than ever! You’ll hear every drum beat, every guitar lick, every guttural growl in stunning sonic clarity as you peruse the authentic reproduction of the album artwork. C’mon, do I have to spell it out for you? Okay, here goes: “G-L-O…”

TRASHMEN, THE "SURFIN BIRD" LP (SUNDAZED)
Hailing from the wintry heartland of Minneapolis, the Trashmen achieved cult immortality with a passel of landlocked surf anthems and reckless garage-rock gems, best exemplified by their immortal anthem "Surfin' Bird," two and a half minutes of inspired, unhinged mayhem that's never been equaled. But "Surfin' Bird" is just the tip of the iceberg of the 1964 album that bears the song's name. The only longplayer that the band released during their original lifespan, Surfin' Bird demonstrates that the Trashmen were no novelty act or one-hit wonder, but a brilliant, original outfit who filtered their R&B and surf influences through their own cheerfully demented sensibility to make some of their era's most reckless, uninhibited rock 'n' roll. In addition to the iconic "Surfin' Bird," the album features the surf-and-drag killers "King of the Surf," "My Woodie" and "Tube City," along with the "Bird"-themed sequels "Bird Bath" and "Bird Dance Beat." Elsewhere on the album, the Trashmen's surf-rock skills animate the instrumental standards "Misirlou," "Malagueña" and "Kuk," and the band delivers storming readings of Buddy Holly's "It's So Easy" and Barrett Strong's "Money (That's What I Want)."

TRASHMEN, THE "GREAT LOST ALBUM" LP (SUNDAZED)
Yep, it's the legendary, unreleased followup LP to Surfin' Bird (ca. 1964) and another 2 rarities recorded in Iowa (ca. mid-1966). Ultra-cool liners by Miriam Linna plus super rare photos of our favorite land-locked surfers. Rock 'n' roll history set straight!

SONICS, THE "INTRODUCING THE SONICS" LP (SUNDAZED)
The Sonics - fronted by Gerry Roslie's banshee vocals - blow-torched the mists of Seattle in 1966 like the fiery exhaust from a jumbo-jet. With their trademark scorched-earth guitar sounds, they created a mind- numbing assortment of Sonics' classics: "You Got Your Head On Backwards," "Like No Other Man," "Psycho," "The Witch" and simultaneously reinvented garage rock powerhouses like "I'm A Man," "Diddy Wah Diddy" and much more.  This heavy-duty BeatRocket vinyl edition of the group's 1966 Jerden album adds 4 rare bonus cuts to the original killer disc. No one has done it this raw ever since!

SIAMESE TWINS - DEMO TAPE
"This is the best demo I've heard in as long as I can remember, so much so that I've been listening to it almost regularly for the past two months. Siamese Twins consists of three ladies from around the punk block playing vaguely gothy, post-punk tunes. At least, that's what the production strives for and succeeds at. I might just be looking for this, but when I listen more closely, I get a sense that the songwriter(s) has a gift for writing solid indie pop songs, as well. I wouldn't hesitate to label this dark twee." -icouldietomorrow.blogspot.com

CRIATURAS - DEMO TAPE
"This cassette is pure, unabashed sonic perfection and we’ve been blasting this thing around my house for weeks now, non-stop. On first listen, the first thing that caught me off guard was the guitar. Its tone is crazy and flanged or something throughout, which in itself sounds crazy enough, but the leads and hidden little tickles that are thrown into the spaces between the riffs, are fucking mind blowing and are what really catapult this from being a great demo with great songs, into its own fucking orbit of great cosmic importance in my world. There is this real subtle melody in the last song, “Hay Viene la Muerte,” that makes me psyched to geek out on this kind of shit every goddamned time I hear it. It’s not really just the guitar that’s brilliant either — everything here is great, from every word of Dru’s amazing vocals to every drum hit. It’s punk, it’s hardcore, and it sounds like nothing else out there. CRIATURAS hails from Austin, TX, and some of them have been in other bands you know and probably like, but it doesn’t matter ’cause this shit is head and shoulders above almost every other release that will come out in 2010, and that’s a promise. A flawless example of everything I love about music. Period." - MRR

BUSY BUSY BUSY day today! Not only do I have a TON of new stuff in the webstore, but I'm also celebrating this wonderful holiday known as "Black Friday;" so I've got a bunch of records in the webstore for CHEAP.  Here is everything, hope it isn't too overwhelming - Black Friday details first, followed by new webstore goodies. Thanks for reading!!!

BLACK FRIDAY SALE!

As you might have heard, today is "Black Friday," and of course I wouldn't miss this wonderful opportunity to sell you all some really awesome records for a lot cheaper than you'd normally pay.  Hopefully you are sitting somewhere comfortable reading this, and not wrestling with the masses over 1.99 DVDs at TARGET or sitting in jail because you got in a fist fight at WALMART trying to grab the last $5 "Doorbuster" Blu-Ray player they had.

I tried to outdo last year's Black Friday sale, and I think I succeeded ... here's a rundown of all of the cheap stuff you can buy in the webstore.  Flat percentage discounts are lame and boring, so I tried to make things fun this year (also, I don't know how to do flat percentage discounts in my store, otherwise I probably just would have just ended up doing that). Please note that most of these prices and package deals for GRAVE MISTAKE releases will ONLY be good today, FRIDAY November 25th. The non-Grave Mistake distro sale stuff will be good for Saturday as well ... but after that, back to normal!

Ok here is what we've got (these prices do NOT include shipping, please keep in mind):

WEBSTORE UPDATE / 11.25.11

It's been a really busy month here and I've accumulated a lot of new titles ... a bunch of brand new releases as well as a good number of cool releases that have been around for a little while that I thought would fit nicely in the webstore. You'll notice that this update is kind of all over the place, but as you have probably guessed, that's how I like it - something for everyone. I like to think that most of these records compliment each other in some way, hopefully you'll find something you've been looking to pick up, or even better - something new (or old) to check out!

NEW RECORDS FOR 11/25/11:

SHITTY LIMITS, THE "SPECULATE/ACCUMULATE" LP (SORRY STATE)
After one of the most impeccable runs of vinyl in modern punk, this 12" EP sadly marks the Shitty Limits' swan song. It's been a long road from Limits Appear to here, but if, like me, you have thought every Shitty Limits record was better than the last then you'll be wild about this 12". While there are still spastic hardcore bangers like "Survey Says," the quirky, Fall-esque influences apparent on the last few releases come to the fore with songs like "Medication Time" and "Future Mantra." I'm still crushed that this band decided to call it quits, but at least Speculate/Accumulate assures that I'll have a great soundtrack when I cry myself to sleep each night. Limited to 300 copies.

UX VILEHEADS "HARDCORE XI" LP (SORRY STATE)
After two killer 7" EPs, Umeå, Sweden's UX Vileheads unleash their debut LP. While the Vileheads have always played a killer mix of straight up 80s USHC and UK82 punk, the latter element is even more conspicuous on this material, making it the band's catchiest to date. No other current band so effectively combines the gritty energy of Minor Threat and early Black Flag with the fist-pumping singalongs of the UK Subs. Those who are familiar with the band and its members no doubt have high expectations, and Hardcore XI summarily exceeds them. Quite simply, this is a perfect hardcore LP.

INSERVIBLES "S/T" LP (SHOGUN)
Coming from Mexico, a country where street executions and drug Lords are at war with everybody, INSERVIBLES can be described as the soundtrack of the Mexican nightmare.  Their deranged hybrid of negative Hardcore with no-fi garage as been compared to NERORGASMO, RAW POWER, VOID or THE REATARDS.  The 13 tracks contained in this LP may bring to mind some of those bands but there is something else behind all those layers of filth they call music.  Acid lyrics with a macabre sense of humour, laughing as a statement against the world and a continuous vile-spit on the face of formal folklore.  All housed in a tasteless jacket designed Yecatl Peńa.

V/A "NEW BREED TAPE COMPILATION" 2xLP (WARDANCE)
Re-issue of this legendary NYHC compilation from 1989. The re-mastered LP version features four exclusive bonus tracks plus the original twenty page lyric booklet. There will be an alternate limited edition that will include a silk-screened "Wild Style" LP cover (200 made) available to the first 200 mail orders. Bands on the compilation: ABSOLUTION, OUTBURST, LIFE'S BLOOD, BREAKDOWN, BEYOND, RAW DEAL plus 15 other rocking NYHC bands from that golden era.  (the OUTBURST tracks are worth the price of admission alone)

POISON IDEA "DARBY CRASH RIDES AGAIN" LP (TKO)
This month, TKO Records kicks off the much anticipated POISON IDEA “Kings Of Punk” reissue series with “Darby Crash Rides Again: The Early Years.” This LP collects twenty-nine tracks from the band’s earliest days. Included are the 100% previously unreleased “Boner’s Kitchen” demo from 1981, the complete “Darby Crash Rides Again” demo from 1982, the complete uncut live-on-the-air set from the 1983 KBOO radio benefit, and lastly, outtakes from the “Record Collectors Are Pretentious Assholes” recording session. Much of this material is appearing on vinyl for the first time. All the recordings have been meticulously restored by Enormous Door Mastering for this release. This LP comes in a gatefold jacket and printed inner sleeve that is jam packed with old flyers, liner notes and tons of previously unpublished photos from the band’s beginnings. All copies include a download coupon. Really, this LP is a complete no-brainer for POISON IDEA fans or any fan of the early days of American Hardcore Punk.

BROWN SUGAR "SINGS OF BIRDS AND RACISM" LP (FEEBLE MINDS)
New York's Brown Sugar have been kicking around for several years, but they're just now getting around to recording their debut full-length. In my opinion, it was more than worth the wait. This is exactly the kind of diverse, ambitious, and fully-realized full-length that we have come to expect from the very best bands from upstate NY, including Shoppers, Rational Animals, and Insubordinates. Like all of those bands, Brown Sugar definitely have their own unique sound... the core is chunky, mid-paced punk... not as dirge-y as Rational Animals, but rarely reaching true hardcore tempos either. Songwriting-wise, this reminds me a little bit of the early Fucked Up singles, but Brown Sugar incorporate a lot more... there's saxophone, some weird dissonant passages, and other little surprises scattered all throughout this record. It's not just an "everything and the kitchen sink" type of record, though... like the Insubordinates LP, every move seems well thought-out and seems to flow logically from the next. Upstate NY is quickly establishing itself as one of the most exciting scenes in the country, and with this LP Brown Sugar have created one of the most exciting documents from that scene. Highly recommended.

STEVE ADAMYK BAND "FOREVER WON'T WAIT" LP (DIRTNAP)
The Steve Adamyk Band are a bunch of obnoxious, rowdy, "kids" from Ottawa, Ontario. While the name would automatically draw comparison to a blues, jazz or rock band given the layout, make no mistake; the Steve Adamyk Band are a punk band. The SAB play trash-pop inspired by seventies punk, the skinny tie bands of the eighties and nineties garage rock. From the ashes of Million Dollar Marxists (Gearhead Records) and Sedatives (Deranged Records), the group was born out of necessity - a whack load of orphan songs with no band to call home. Frustrated playing in bands the would eventually call it quits, Adamyk formed a band that could have an endless timeline, even if the name is outside of the standard band name zone. Releasing two European singles before their first live performance, the SAB would go on to unload 4 seven inch singles and an LP in 2010. The self-titled LP in question sold out its initial pressing in three months and received rave reviews, including being hailed as Ben Weasel's favourite album of 2010. The following year, the SAB toured Europe, performed at SXSW and recorded their sophomore LP "Forever Won't Wait" to be unleashed by Portland, OR's Dirtnap Records closing in on the end of the year. More touring and releases are currently in the works for 2012, as it doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

SCREECHING WEASEL "CARNIVAL OF SCHADENFREUDE" LP (RECESS)
"The new Screeching Weasel EP will remind all who listen why Ben is still among the pantheon of pop-punk geniuses. The title of the EP is wonderfully fitting, Schadenfreude of course a reference to a German term celebrating the misery of others, but the music within is among the freshest and sharpest SW has produced in some time. The opening salvo of the title track and the scathing “Fox News” are quick hits of infectious, speedy, sing along punk tinged with biting sarcasm. With references ranging from people believing he is unemployed to the always accessible punching bag that is Sarah Palin, these tracks, both failing to even approach two minutes, are quick jabs to the gut that announce that SW are back, Ben is fired up, and the people who so gleefully buried him now must realize that this band is not going anywhere! The following trio of “Muscle Mary” (whose opening riff is a nice nod to “I Just Wanna Have Something to Do”), “Queen Kong” and “Parasite Murders” are impossible to dislike, as Ben again proves that while legions of bands attempt to be funny, snarky, and still punk, it is a rare talent that can combine all three traits into truly great songs. The closing “No Reason to Lie” and “Under the Bus” are slightly less ferocious musically than the other works, but each is dripping with acerbic wit, particularly the mid-tempo “Bus”, a song that makes a fitting conclusion here when one reflects upon what so-called fans and even former band members said about Mr. Weasel last spring. For those who appreciate Screeching Weasel, this EP is just another illustration of how significant and fun this band is, and yes, it’s ok to have fun, kids." - Rich Quinlan / JERSEY BEAT

BANNER PILOT "HEART BEATS PACIFIC" LP (FAT)
Described as the perfect ambassadors of Midwest punk, BANNER PILOT reinforced that role with the success of their Fat Wreck Chords debut Collapser (elected to the Punknews.org “2009 Best of” list). A perfect amalgam of their immediate influences (Dillinger Four, The Lawrence Arms, Alkaline Trio, Jawbreaker), BANNER PILOT continue to represent the genre through the impeccably crafted, gritty pop-punk songs on their latest release Heart Beats Pacific. These poetic punks turn a phrase like nobody’s business, spinning relatable situations and emotions into clever prose delivered through gruff vocals. Each of the 11 tracks on Heart Beats Pacific is a stand-alone, bona fide hit and collectively they make up a rare flawless listening experience. The band characterizes Heart Beats Pacific as “Collapser on steroids” and when asked to further expound upon that notion had this to say: “Whenever a band starts a new album, they have a choice to take a step backwards.... Or take a step forwards. We chose to take a step backwards. That gave us more room to jump two steps forward. What does that mean? Better songs, but still in the same vein as before. A few new things that make the album less straight-forward, but not in a weird way. Thicker guitars, and an overall better sound. We even cracked out a grand piano for a four-count-em-four note piano part. New things, but we don’t abandon or ignore our old sound.” Essentially Heart Beats Pacific is an escalation of BANNER PILOT’s ever expanding acclaim and will be received as such by fans and critics alike.

SAMIAM "TRIPS" LP (HOPELESS)
"Trips could not be a more appropriate album title for Berkley punk act Samiam‘s eighth studio album in just over two decades. Especially considering how far they have journeyed from their original lineup and sound in that time. Like all adventures, there have been highs (94′s Clumsy and 00′s Astray) and undeniable lows (2006′s Whatever’s Got You Down), and, ultimately, there has to be a finish. While Trips hasn’t been declared a last album, its airtight production, catchy hooks, and poppy sheen provide the definite end to any chance of bringing back the grit, and arguably the heart, of Samiam’s early work. That being said, Trips is an enjoyable, and surprisingly melodic, listen.  The opening track “80 West” sets the stage for the rest of Trips: pounding drums, soaring choruses, and, for the most part, optimistic lyrics. It’s party punk, better fit for debauchery than angst and introspection. Samiam do it well, though, continuing on with “Clean Up the Mess”, where harmonized vocals and lines such as “This is gonna be a better year for me/may not believe it, but it’s true” force smiles and ferociously tapping toes. For better and worse, Trips is not all formulaic, two-minute dance songs, as the near-ballad “El Dorado” showcases through its extensive, narrative lyrics. Its toned down nature and longing cries of soaring “ohs” demonstrate a side of Samiam that may be worth pursuing further. Other breaks from the party, such as lethargic closer “Happy for You”, are not nearly as successful, but they at least thwart monotony. Although vocalist Jason Beebout’s performance is dynamic and impressive throughout, Chris Dugan (producer for Green Day and Iggy Pop) ends up being the true star of Trips. Replacing fuzz and inconsistency with intricately pieced together pop-punk, Dugan and Samiam have created a solid comeback, breathing new, emphatic life into an old name." -http://consequenceofsound.net

QUEERS "GROW UP" LP (ASIAN MAN)
Originally released in 1990, here's the first album ever from THE QUEERS. A perfect combination of surfy pop, RAMONES-style punk rock, and lyrics about girls, girls, and Burger King. Completely remixed and remastered, it's time to abuse yourself with the classic slab that put the Queers in orbit!

DUM DUM GIRLS "ONLY IN DREAMS" LP (SUB POP)
On several levels, Dum Dum Girls’ second full-length Only in Dreams is a great leap forward for a gifted songwriter and an equally gifted band—it’s heavy, deeply personal stuff and surely unprecedented for this style of music. “The first record was basically the first songs I’d ever written,” says band-leader Dee Dee, “and I was thinking nostalgically about being a teenager. This record, it was pretty much impossible not to write about very recent, very real things.” Only in Dreams more than fulfills the promise of 2011’s acclaimed and fast-selling He Gets Me High EP. It retains Dum Dum Girls’ signature blend of the girl-gang eyeliner punk of the Shangri-Las, the trashy propulsion of the Cramps, and the moody atmospherics of Mazzy Star, but for the first time, all four Dum Dum Girls play and sing on the album. Now the harmonies have more depth, Jules plays her own distinctive guitar leads, and the Bambi (bass)/Sandy (drums) rhythm section powers the music like a vintage V-8 engine. Best of all, tons of time on the road—including two massively successful headlining tours—have molded Dum Dum Girls into a very formidable rock & roll band, giving the music an undeniable force.

DUM DUM GIRLS "HE GETS ME HIGH" 12" (SUB POP)
Los Angeles-based Dum Dum Girls follow up their fuzzy, girl group-inspired 2010 Sub Pop debut I Will Be with He Gets Me High, an EP composed of three originals and a cover of the swooning Smiths’ classic “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out.” Lead singer/songwriter Dee Dee, Richard Gottehrer (who also worked on I Will Be and is best known for penning “My Boyfriend’s Back” and “I Want Candy”), and Sune Rose Wagner of the Raveonettes produced the EP.

DUM DUM GIRLS "I WILL BE" LP (SUB POP)
I Will Be is the debut full-length by the Dum Dum Girls. Produced by Dee Dee and Richard Gottehrer (Strangeloves, Voidoids, Blondie, The Go-Gos and, more recently, The Raveonettes), I Will Be is neither lo-fi nor too polished. Just under thirty minutes with eleven songs, it’s a short tribute to love, fun and the classic pop form of the ’60s girl groups and early punk rockers.

GIRLS AT DAWN "CALL THE DOCTOR" LP (NORTON)
"Following a couple of excellent singles, this is the first full-length from Brooklyn’s Girls At Dawn, although 10 of its 12 tracks don’t make it past 2 minutes and their “epic” closing song lasts all of 2 minutes 36 seconds! It’s lo-fi DIY pop, their minimal production making it sound as if they’re in the room with you, but that simplicity also works brilliantly in focusing the attention on the skewed melodies and rich harmonies of the band. They’re influenced by girl-groups and 60s garage-rock, but the skittery post-punk rhythms also remind you of the more subversive pop history of bands like Dolly Mixture and the Modettes, especially on the spooky ‘I’m Alone’. The finest tracks are ‘Evil One’, sounding very 60s pop-psych with its echoey effects and harmonies, and the infectious ‘They’re Waiting’, which keeps the echo and adds girl-group call-and-response vocals. It might be just three people playing and producing scratchy 60s-saturated pop but there’s a sinewy toughness to this band and these songs that makes this record as good as anything emerging from Brooklyn right now."

OBN III'S "THE ONE AND ONLY" LP (TIC TAC TOTALLY)
New entry for the top-shelf, mid-tempo “City Slang”-vibed bangers contains zero frills and marries it down to a Stooges swagger. This debut long-player is as tight as it is unhinged. The double-deep-fried guitars and solo riffage render tunes of a hooky, hard rock sheen. Effectively transplanted from the S/T EP without a doubt. But OBNs use the stretching room an LP affords to also flirt with a Sabbath-like weight in their sound, add even further snotty attacks, and lay out ridiculously deliberate, locked-in grooves to serve on (Graham Low and Matt Hammer function as an incredible rhythm section). Of course the “Texas-tinged IVY GREEN” tag remains 100% applicable, but I’d also go for “VAMPS-meets-STOOGES” comparison here even more (101% I guess??). Matter of fact, the fucking Vamps are another Texas five-piece with a blonde guitarist too. Wha…tha…fuuuuck? 20-year time warp? Reincarnation?! All the killer riffs on this album just set it off for “front, man” Orville Neeley, whose howling episodes take over the tracks like a “front, man” should. Highlights on this thing include E-VER-Y-THING. No jokes, no riddles, no ham sandwich. I don’t care if you ARE Barrack Obama. Recorded by Orville Bateman Neeley III in hot-as-fuck Austin, Texas. As if enough sweat wasn’t baked into these tapes already. LP includes a free download and is pressed on heavyweight wax housed in a nice inner/outer sleeve deal. Get on board with this shit, and grab the singles on TTT and Super Secret Records if you ain’t dun diddit yet.

PUMPHOUSE GANG "S/T" LP (SING SING)
Formed from the ashes of a mid-70's rock band called Horse, the founding members of Pumphouse Gang - Ricky Wreckage (vocals), Ralph Von Wau Wau (bass), SG Coolbridge (guitar) and Dread 'Family Man' Jones (drums) were active on the fringes of the UK punk scene as early as late 1976. The band made regular trips from their base in Ryde on the Isle Of Wight to play London's live circuit at venues like The Marquee, The Speakeasy and The Nashville, and on the same bill as acts like Generation X, Fabulous Poodles, The Lurkers and The Only Ones.  This album features the best of Pumphouse Gang's material for Splash Records, including eight tracks never previously released on vinyl. Lost classics like 'When We Were Young', 'Black And White' and 'Teenage Lament' together with those now highly collectable Splash singles only emphasise how wrong the record buying public were to ignore the band back then. Perhaps this LP will go some way to righting that wrong. - James Denholm (Worthless Trash)

SONICS, THE "SAVAGE YOUG SONICS" LP (NORTON)
Long before they delivered the full blown crunch of The Witch and Psycho, the Sonics were cutting their teeth in Tacoma teen clubs! These crude 1961-64 sides were taped live at dances and at home, showing the heavy influence of their primo idols the Wailers and includes the ultra primitive A-Rab, the group's very first recording - raw!! These tapes were recently found in a Tacoma attic. This is their first appearance ever! Liner notes by Sonics founder/guitarist Larry Parypa!

MOTORHEAD "ACE OF SPADES" LP (MERCURY)
"With the 1980 release of Ace of Spades, Motörhead had their anthem of anthems -- that is, the title track -- the one trademark song that would summarize everything that made this early incarnation of the band so legendary, a song that would be blasted by legions of metalheads for generations on end. It's a legendary song, for sure, all two minutes and 49 bracing seconds of it. And the album of the same name is legendary as well, among Motörhead's all-time best, often considered their single best, in fact, along with Overkill. Ace of Spades was Motörhead's third great album in a row, following the 1979 releases of Overkill and Bomber, respectively. Those two albums have a lot in common with Ace of Spaces. The classic lineup -- Lemmy (bass and vocals), "Fast" Eddie Clarke (guitar), and "Philthy Animal" Taylor (drums) -- is still in place and sounding as alive and crazed as ever. The album is still rock-solid, boasting several superlative standouts. Actually, besides the especially high number of standouts on Ace of Spades -- at least relative to Bomber, which wasn't quite as strong overall as Overkill had been -- the only key difference between this 1980 album and its two 1979 predecessors is the producer, in this case Vic Maile. The result of his work isn't all that different from that of Jimmy Miller, the longtime Rolling Stones producer who had worked on Overkill and Bomber, but it's enough to give Ace of Spades a feeling distinct from its two very similar-sounding predecessors. This singular sound (still loud and in your face, rest assured), along with the exceptionally strong songwriting and the legendary stature of the title track, makes Ace of Spades the ideal Motörhead album if one were to choose one and only one studio album. It's highly debatable whether Ace of Spades is tops over the breakthrough Overkill, as the latter is more landmark because of its earlier release, and is somewhat rougher around the edges, too. Either way, Ace of Spades rightly deserves its legacy as a classic. There's no debating that." - allmusic.com

DWARVES "BLOOD, GUTS, AND PUSSY" LP (SUB POP)
Universally recognized as the group's high-water mark, this is a roller coaster ride of bad taste that holds nothing sacred. If you like your punk fast, rude, raucous, drug induced, and dirty this still may be too much for you. Also recommended for fans of album art depicting nude women and midgets covered in blood.

MUDHONEY "S/T" LP (SUB POP)
Mudhoney's debut LP from 1989 reissued on vinyl once again!

MUDHONEY "SUPERFUZZ BIGMUFF" LP (SUB POP)
Mudhoney: Mark Arm, Steve Turner (guitar, vocals); Matt Lukin (bass); Dan Peters (drums). Recorded at Reciprocal Recording, Seattle, Washington. Rock & roll got a badly needed revitalizing overhaul with Seattle's grunge explosion of the late 1980's, and Mudhoney was there to make sure it got done right. Although nearly eclipsed by the success of such bands as Nirvana and Pearl Jam, Mudhoney was arguably the most important grunge band of all. Their "Touch Me I'm Sick" defined a generation of disenchanted middle-class malcontents bored stiff by the predictable mire that rock & roll had become. SUPERFUZZ BIG MUFF compiles the band's rare early singles in one convenient package. Twelve essential tracks here, and they all rock mightily. If you're old enough you'll want to say that you were there--if you know what you're talking about, folks might believe you. Do yourself a favor and familiarize yourself with the rock & roll revival that was Mudhoney.

SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE "LP2" 2xLP (SUB POP)
Originally formed in Seattle in 1992, Sunny Day Real Estate featured Nate Mendel (bass), William Goldsmith (drums), Dan Hoerner (guitar, vocals) and Jeremy Enigk (vocals, guitar). Following the completion of a US Tour to support Diary, the band’s debut album, the group headed back into the studio with Wood to record the follow-up. But during the recording sessions, internal tensions splintered Sunny Day Real Estate, resulting in a sudden break-up and the finished album being turned in to Sub Pop without a title or artwork. LP2 was released in November 1995, by which time both Goldsmith and Mendel had joined Foo Fighters and Enigk had begun a solo career. Sub Pop Records will re-issue both Diary and the band’s second full-length album, commonly known as LP2 (or “The Pink Album” for its entirely pink cover). Both re-mastered albums will include rare bonus tracks as well as newly written liner notes.

SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE "DIARY" 2xLP (SUB POP)
This is the 2009 reissue of Sunny Day Real Estate’s 1994 debut album Diary. This edition has been re-mastered and includes the bonus tracks “8” and “9,” as well as newly written liner notes. The LP reissue of Diary will be on two pieces of vinyl.

ZEROS "DON'T PUSH ME AROUND" LP (BOMP)
Formed in 1976, the Zeros (aka The Mexican Ramones), were one of the pioneers of the L.A. punk explosion in the late '70s. This is the repressing of their 1980 album which includes their studio recordings and demos.

PHANTOM SURFERS "EIGHTEEN DEADLY ONES" LP (NORTON)
Wow! Killers galore from San Francisco's wildest incognito surf instrumental combo! Sensational wet n' wild echo swamped sound that'll blow your gourd!

ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT "ALL SYSTEMS GO VOL. 2" LP (SWAMI)
Swami Recordings first release and a bona fide smash. Guaranteed to prove to be barely larger than the cracks that threaten to swallow it up and bury it in obscurity. All Systems Go 2 is a 25-track collection culled from 13 different recording sessions over 8 years. Most of the tracks are making their digital debut, only having been released in the forms of limited vinyl runs or rare b-sides and compilations on labels such as Merge and Elemental. Two never-before-released songs are included. Many feel that RFTC's first collection of singles (All Systems Go) included many of the band's finest moments. All Systems Go 2 follows in this tradition of capturing every facet of RFTC's sound. From ghetto box no-fi recordings to ELO-inspired orchestrated punk, All Systems Go 2 is a 71-minute relentless rollercoaster of exciting and contrasting sounds. It should be noted that those still unconvinced of RFTC's greatness will probably have no change in opinion upon hearing this release.

OBLIVIANS "ROCK 'N ROLL HOLIDAY" LP (SYMPATHY FOR THE RECORD INDUSTRY)
"Through most of their existence, "subtle" was a word rarely used to describe the gloriously messed-up attack of Memphis roots punks the Oblivians, but they never sounded quite so frantic and hot-wired than they did on this live album, recorded during a feedback-laden 1994 show that found the band opening for like-minded maniacs the Woggles and the Mono Men. Briefly available in a pressing of 300 LPs in 1996 and now reissued on CD, Rock 'n Roll Holiday is one 45-minute, slightly hissy blast of cheap guitars pummeled into submission; drums beaten senseless; and hoarse bleatings about sex, violence, and various forms of anti-social behavior, punctuated by the enthusiastic cheers of the crowd, occasional pauses to right faulty equipment, and pleas for fans to purchase some of the group's many recordings. Which is to say, if you don't like your rock & roll in its raw, crude form, then you probably don't want to hear this. On the other hand, if the above description sounds like your idea of a good time, may I suggest putting this on your shopping list pronto. One sticking point: I know it's kinda dumb to single out bad taste on an album with tunes like "Plate in My Head," "And Then I Fucked Her," and " "Motorcycle Leather Boy," but three Lightnin' Hopkins and Slim Harpo fans really ought to know better than to call a song "Nigger Rich." Past that, if you're looking for the right kind of trash, the Oblivians serve it up hot and fresh on Rock 'n Roll Holiday, and you might want to pick it up before it disappears for a second time. SPITS, THE "FIRST S/T" LP (SLOVENLY)
At long last, the wait is over! The warped freaks at Slovenly Recordings, the label that brought you the classic Spits "II" ("wheelchair") LP, as well as the incendiary Spits "P.A.I.N." EP, present the first ever fully authorized, legitimate, REMASTERED vinyl version of the first album from, you guessed it... punk rock warlocks, THE SPITS! Originally released in 2000 on a shitty/tinny sounding compact disc, this legendary album is fully loaded with all the classics that sent sick-headed kids around the world on quest to throw bottles and bust noses at every Spits show they could sneak into. From the skatepunk anthem "SK8," to the G.G. Allin-cum-Destroy All Monsters murder threat thump of "Die Die Die," to the thuggish declaration of "I H8 Pussies," this record has a top spot on our "Best Punk Records Ever" list for a reason! Poppunk pussies be damned, this is the essential, disaffected, synth-heavy, big-beat fueled weirdo party you've been denied for far too long. After numerous, hard to acquire bootleg/unauthorized versions, we've finally made it available for you to add to your growing collection of slimy Spits shingles.

SPITS, THE "III" LP (SLOVENLY)
BACK IN PRINT!!! The third self-titled full-length album from a band that should be knifed, hung, and then shot for the aggravation. It's punk, it's rock'n'roll, it's all about partying, having a great time, and fucking shit up. Originally released by Dirtnap. Vital like a fucking zit.

SPITS, THE "19 MILLION A.C. EP" LP (SLOVENLY)
BACK IN PRINT!!! A rip-it-up collection of rare and out-of-print material from punk rockers the SPITS. Includes all the songs from the band's 19 Million AC 7-inch EP, and a handful of rare and unreleased gems-including covers of GG Allin's "Drink, Fight & Fuck" and the Dick's "Kill From The Heart."

PAUL COLLINS BEAT "FLYING HIGH" LP (GET HIP)
First new album in 12 years by THE NERVES and THE BEAT'S founder! Great power-pop that picks up where his 1979 genre masterpiece left off only a bit more paced and reflective but with the same catchy-as-hell good melodies that make him a classic! 180-gram vinyl.

PAUL COLLINS BEAT "RIBBON OF GOLD" LP (GET HIP)
"Ribbon of Gold is the finest Paul Collins release since the heyday of The Beat back in the late ‘70s/early ‘80s. Collins – who got his start playing in the semi-legendary Nerves with future Plimsouls frontman Peter Case and songwriter-to-the-stars Jack Lee back in the ‘70s – is a true rock and roll soldier, slogging it out in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City and Spain over the course of his fruitful career. It’s with three of his musical compadres from Spain that he recorded this record – in Sweden, naturally. While most of Collins’ releases from the late ‘80s through the early part of this decade eschewed straight-up power pop in favor a of a more relaxed, countrified atmosphere, Ribbon of Gold finds Collins going back to what he does best – writing and performing memorable, energetic rock and roll. Perhaps he was pushed to greater heights by his youthful bandmates or maybe he simply thought it was time to turn up the guitars again – in any event, tunes such as “I Still Want You,” “Falling in Love With Her” and “She Doesn’t Want to Hang Around With You” harken back to the halcyon days of “Rock ‘n’ Roll Girl” and classic rockin’ power pop."

PAUL COLLINS "KING OF POWER POP" LP (GET HIP)
"No one has more right to lay claim to the title of King of Power Pop than Paul Collins: over a 30-year career with The Nerves, The Breakaways, and Paul Collins’ Beat, Collins has consistently delivered the Rickenbacker jangle and harmonies, as well as songs about girls, “the kids”, and music itself, that power pop aficionados have demanded since the first issue of Bomp!, if not the Who’s The Kids Are Alright. As it is, he more than backs up his album’s boastful title on this most welcome—and deserving—victory lap."

SPIDER BABIES "UNDRESSED TO KILL" LP (BLACK LUNG)
"These Oregon misfits are about as unintellectual, uncaring and downright offensive as they come. Combining a bit of trash-rock, a la The Cramps, along with the glaring ugliness of early Dwarves material and the bottom o' the barrel, lowbrow wit of The Mentors, The Spider Babies take jabs at the most inappropriate of subjects. Straight up, the garage-sounding tune "Girl to Abuse" is simply tasteless -- just the way I like it. "Gimme Some Drugs" boorishly asks you to "Give me some cocaine/Give me some meth/I want the smell of freebase/on my breath" as shoddy, overdriven guitars sweep up the mess. This sloppy three-chord wonder will inexplicably have you singing along -- to your neighbors' dismay. And to top everything off, "Rock 'N' Roll Fag-Bash" thoughtlessly puts punk-rock homophobia back into the limelight. Love it or hate it, The Spider Babies show no shame and put the balls back onto a seemingly castrated punk rock entity."

P.S. ELIOT "INTROVERTED ROMANCE IN OUR TROUBLED MINDS" LP (SALINAS)
P.S. Eliot's full-length is a mix of pop-punk and indie-rock just barely fuzzed out enough to give these songs a fresh dynamic. This Birmingham, Alabama's four-piece's vocals are strong and guitar hooks are in all the right places.

SNUFF "POTATOES AND MELONS" LP (FAT)
The Brits are back with an album chock full o' cover tunes to delight the ears. The album with the longest and most incomprehensible title yet is out now. Cheers!

CHEEKY "WHAT THE HECK" LP (FREEDOM SCHOOL)
"It’s a shame that Cheeky are the latest in New York/Jersey area bands to call it quits, because they’re pretty great, and this record is more proof. Take the snottiness of FYP, inject it into your little nieces and nephew, and have them practice along to All records. Crank one amp to a Gregg Ginn/Black Flag distortion level, the other an early Billy Joel/power pop jangle. Shouted-out lyrics about the problems that inevitably come up from being human. Supposedly, this record almost didn’t come out, which would have been stupid, so make sure you get this and listen. " -RAZORCAKE

CONCENTRATION SUMMER CAMPS "AMOUR ET SOURIRES" LP (TRABUC)
After some months of different delays for various resons, the record is here and looks and sounds great. 525 copies in black wax of crazy garage-ish hardcore punk madness, noisy stuff from these teenagers over their 30's. Think of a mix of KBD stuff, early 80's USHC and some weird psychedelic 70's rock. Fast songs, noisy guitars, primitive drumming, punk punk punk!

CONCENTRATION SUMMER CAMPS/WINTER STORM "SPLIT" LP (STOMP)
Split 12" from these two Spanish bands. CSC had a previous record on Discos Humeantes that was some pretty ripping garagey hardcore, but they sound utterly different on this release. The label describes them as "the Necros meets 13th Floor Elevators," and that doesn't make a bit of fucking sense. However, if I were to try and describe this band I would probably name an equally bizarre combination of bands... this is just some really unique stuff. It's raw and driving like hardcore, but like hardcore made by mental patients. So fucking weird. As for Winter Storm, their name and logo indicated that they're probably going for kind of a black metal thing, but this is much more GISM-inspired. Classic, Motorhead-style riffs delivered through a weird as fuck guitar sound and growled vocals that are a dead ringer for Sakevi. If you like new GISM-inspired stuff like Syphilitic Vaginas and Parasite these guy will be one of your new favorite bands... few bands are doing this so authentically.

GHOUL "TRANSMISSION ZERO" LP (TANKCRIMES)
After hiding out in the catacombs of Creepsylvania for years, Ghoul returns with their 4th album. 11 tracks of their trademark death thrashing crossover mayhem tweeked with elements of surf rock and doom. Catch Ghoul on the “Return of the Maggots” tour this fall with Gwar!

CANNABIS CORPSE "BENEATH GROW LIGHTS THOU SHALT RISE" LP (TANKCRIMES)
Following in the tradition laid down by their earlier releases, each song on the record is inspired by a classic death metal track - this time around, Morbid Angel and Deicide are getting the Cannabis treatment! Tongue-in-cotton-mouthed-cheek titles like “Lunatic of Pot’s Creation” and “Immortal Pipes” keep the party rolling, but don’t be fooled: CANNABIS CORPSE are not a joke band. Sure, they’ll fire up a bowl and chug a beer, but then they’ll rip your face off with a brutal old-school death metal assault, the likes of which haven’t been seen since the seeds of the genre first began to grow. With a European invasion slated for August/September and many a nefarious scheme looming on the horizon, the ‘Corpse have only begun to burn.

PAGENINETYNINE / MAJORITY RULE - SPLIT LP (MAGIC BULLET)
Northern Virginia's Pg. 99 and Washington, DC's Majority Rule combine efforts and put forth nine brand new songs. This is a complex and rather explosive recording done under the simple premise of friends working together to create something that we can call our own. Listeners will be treated to the poetic and dark experimentations of Pg.99 and the urgency and conviction present in every note of Majority Rule's ultra heavy sound. When tallied up, these are the sounds and the themes that goosebumps are made of. Now available again on colored vinyl.

CHARLES MANSON "TREES" LP (MAGIC BULLET)
Part 2 in a 4-part series of exclusive full-length albums from Charles Manson on Magic Bullet.  AIR, TREES, WATER, and ANIMALS is a 4-part, seasonal album series by CHARLES MANSON on Magic Bullet Records that brings together these two passions. Each individual album features previously-unheard, authorized, and exclusive songs with a sharp focus on the non-sustainable environmental conditions mankind has wrought for itself. The recordings span numerous sessions and are presented in their raw, natural, and unadulterated form. Each installment also features striking artwork and careful presentation centered around the tenets and philosophies of ATWA (including exclusive paintings rendered by MANSON himself).  When all of the sensationalism, fear, projection, and knee-jerk response is stripped away, all that remains is a man named Charlie, strumming and picking away on his guitar and sending his passions into the ether.

SSORC “INFIDEL ETERNAL" LP w/ 7" (MAGIC BULLET)
Previously only available on compact disc format in Japan (Obliteration Records, 2005), Infidel Eternal is the debut album from Tokyo’s SSORC. Drawing heavily from Scandinavian black metal influences (GORGOROTH, DARKTHRONE, et al) and infusing the crazed, violating ethics of 80′s Japanese hardcore, SSORC blast through traditional themes of nature, anti-organized religion, agony, woe, and despair at an unrelenting pace that never truly relinquishes attack. Accordingly, the band is actually comprised of former members of legendary extreme Japanese hardcore band G.I.S.M. as well os other noted acts such as MAGANE, ZOMBIE RITUAL, MÏSOGI, and MORTES SALTANTES.  With SSORC, their collective goal is quite simply “to terrify people, or to give people fear.” Mantras and themes of “Black Metal Terrorism” appear throughout both the album and the band’s limited public profile. The guitar tones are cruel and menacing, the bass is distorted and sick, Mutilation Under the Moonlight’s vocals howl with a pain seldom put to tape, and the drums blast forth as if they legitimately want to kill you. This is truly Japanese extreme black metal.  Available now for the first time on vinyl anywhere in the world, the Infidel Eternal LP+7″ features the entire scathing album and a special cover of DARKTHRONE’s “Unholy Black Metal.”

V/A "BACK FROM THE GRAVE VOL. 1" LP (CRYPT)
"Like many garage-philes have stated, this is the next logical step in the history of garage rock, right after the enormously influential "Nuggets" and "Pebbles" compilations. Unlike some other comps of the sort, Crypt is only interested in bringing out the best of 60s garage rock 'n' roll. This is a perfect testament to why some people considor this to be the original punk rock. I wouldn't go that far, but it certainly influenced it a good deal. While some songs on this album are better than others, there are no really unbearable tracks. "Surfside Date", the cover of "Psycho", and especially "Sticks and Stones" show why this music was so appealing to the teens of the day. "

V/A "BACK FROM THE GRAVE VOL. 3" LP (CRYPT)
Crypt Records' Back From the Grave 3 features more underground '60s garage rock from the Tigermen, the Hush Puppies, the Golden Catalinas, the Jesters of Newport, and others. This volume of the series has a slightly poppier, more romantic tone, as songs like the Worlocks' "I Love You," the Beau Jens' "She Was Mine," and the Shames' "Special One" demonstrate. However, the Syndicate's "Egyptian Thing" and the Treytones' "Nonymous" provide enough proto-punk edge to make the third volume of the Back From the Grave series an eclectic, worthwhile collection.

V/A "BACK FROM THE GRAVE VOL. 5" LP (CRYPT)
It's back to the big ugly clubs and hair-pulling of the caveman days when the Back From the Grave series pulls into town with their barefoot-driven Flinstones' car. Teens barely out of high school go hell raising in the short months before the draft & hippie foppery clamps down, and you get frat/surf/garage that's blasting, sneering, crunching, and all the way boss. Tracklisting: Humans-Warning, Warlords-Real Fine Lady, Vestells-Won't You Tell Me, Illusions-City of People, Jaguards-It's Gonna Be Alright, Few-Escape, Tikis-Show You Love, Keggs-To Find Out, Jesters of Newport-Stormy, Henchmen-Livin, Tigermen-Close That Door, Aztex-The Little Streets in My Town, Hatfields-The Kid From Cinncy, Nobles-Something Else, Centrees-She's Good For Me, Rising Tides-Take the World As It Comes.

V/A "BACK FROM THE GRAVE VOL. 6" LP (CRYPT)
Killer stuff all the way thru. Dominated by 45's from the Chicago scene. The Keggs return w/Girl plus Shames My World Is Upside Down / Barracudas Baby Get Lost / Shandels Caroline / Abandoned Come On Mary and the stunning Varsity Club Song by the Golden Catalinas!

V/A "WAIKIKI SURF BATTLE" LP (MCGARRETT)
"Waikiki Surf Battle is a summary of the two releases from 1963 and 1964. It features some really amazing stuff. Side one is recorded at the 1963 battle, and side two at the 1964 battle, both held at the Waikiki Shell, with 10,000 screaming teens in attendance. The sound is ambient, but man-oh-man, some of these tracks are amazing, especially the Spiedels. "

V/A "DIGGIN' OUT" LP (MR. MANICOTTI)
"The best surf comp ever," sez customers world-over! 18 heavy reverbed Dick Dale style surf rippers inc. the Goldtones, Gestics, Avengers VI plus vatloads more ultra-rare surf discs! Guaranteed to please hard-core instrumental/surf enthusiasts! Automotive use discouraged!

V/A "THE BIG ITCH VOL. 1" LP (MR. MANICOTTI)
"The opening salvo in this wacky series features 20 tracks with one side as a "bird side," the other a "turd side," giving some indication of the tonal mayhem awaiting the listener. The bird side collects "Surfin' Bird" and "Pa Pa Ooh Mow Mow"-related tunes with Bobby Lee Trammell's nutty "Toolie Froolie," the Trashmen's fuzz-raver follow-up "Bird '65," the Del-Tinos' "Pa Pa Ooh Mau Mau" and Gregory Dee and the Avanties' "Olds Mo William" being particular standouts. The turd side features King Uszniewicz's "Surfin' School," Freddy and the Ravens' title track, Arch Hall, Jr.'s "Konga Joe" and the vocals-and-drum-set-only rendition by Trez Trezo of "Rock Around the Clock," a must-hear-this entry."

V/A "GIRLS IN THE GARAGE VOL. 11" COMPILATION LP (ROMULAN)
The 11th installment of this series doesn't so much present traditional, raw, '60s garage music as it does various hues of woman-sung '60s rock. That's not a bad thing; in fact, it probably ensures a certain amount of diversity, and a willingness to stretch into poppier territory than the average '60s garage comp does. Geographically, it sure covers a lot of space, with entries not only from the continental United States, but also Australia, Holland, Puerto Rico, France, Britain, and Quebec.

V/A - UNISSUED 60'S GARAGE ACETATES VOL. 5 "YOU TORE MY BRAIN" LP (NORTON)
Never issued acetates of biting, tuff garage collected by Australia's Mark Taylor (aka Boss Hoss, Lipstick Killers). Been a while since the last volume, and the break has done 'em good, as these're real ass-kickin' blasters. Apparently there are 5 different unreleased versions of that sick little Invictas track 'Watusi', but having a hard time imagining any of 'em could top this one. Tracklisting: IVbidden-Sick and Lonely, Sir Winston and the Commons-All of the Time, Bunch-Do the Jump, Unknown-Palace of Love, Unknown-Follow Her Home, James Street Overpass-She Can't See, Unknown-Poor Man Dreamer, Invictas-Watusi, Pharoahs-The Isle of Love, Unknown-I Won't Play Your Game, Jams Street Overpass-You Tore My Brain, Sir Winston and the Commons-No Sorrow, Fanatics-I Can't Go On, Unknown-The Hunter.

V/A - "PEBBLES VOL. 1" LP (BFD)
The series that set the ball rolling back in the late 70's. Regardless of his later activities (which included ripping off hopeful young musicians) Greg Shaw deserves a lot of credit for his groundbreaking job to bring attention to local 60's records at a time when the music industry was on its knees in front of David Bowie and Elton John. Along with Lester Bangs and Lenny Kaye Shaw more or less created the concept of 60s punk, first via Bomp Magazine and then through the Pebbles, whose early volumes must've sold tens of thousands of copies by now. The original release of vol 1 (circa 1977) has a different sleeve and liners to the well-known reissue available today. No need to describe the music except to say that while side 1 has some of the greatest 45s ever made, a couple of choices on side 2 seem a bit questionable. As you may know, some tracks are pitched (most notably the Squires).

V/A - "PEBBLES VOL. 5" LP (BFD)
"From the opening rocker "No Good Woman" by The Tree, PEBBLES VOL. 5 (subtitled "Various Morons") is a vast improvement on previous volumes by reissuing 20 songs which don't have a dud among them. It's hard to choose favorites, as each song has something cool going for it, but The Five Canadians' "Writing on the Wall", The Dirty Wurds' "Why", The Magi's "You Don't Know Me", The Merry Dragons' "Universal Vagrant", The Plague's "Go Away", Fe Fi Four Plus 2's "I Wanna Come Back", The Escapades' "I Tell No Lies", The Time Stoppers' "I Need Love", 12 A.M.'s "The Way I Feel", and Shag's "Stop and Listen". Some moments which may be seen as weak by discriminating ears would be Little Phil and the Nightshadows' "The Way It Used to Be", The State of Mind's "Move", and The Satyrs' anti-war song "Yesterday's Hero", but I still loved all three.  Run, don't walk, to pick up this garage band classic compilation! Every single song is superb hard-rockin' 60s perfection, with plenty of snarling male vocals, frenzied keyboards, spastic drumming, and wicked guitar and bass work."

V/A - "PEBBLES VOL. 8" LP (BFD)
60's garage comp featuring: Lollipop Shoppe, Starfires, Gants, Sound Barrier, Jujus, Uncalled For, Bruthers, Clue, Faine Jade, Caravelles, Human Beinz, ? & The Mysterians, The Others,The Cinderman, The Rovin Flames, Rockin Ramrods, Movin Morfomen, Lemon Drops

V/A "HIGHS IN THE MID SIXTIES VOL. 2: LA '66" LP (AIP)
A companion to the PEBBLES series.   The Highs in the Mid-Sixties series is a group of 23 compilation albums of garage rock and psychedelic rock recordings that were issued by AIP Records in the mid-1980s. This series is a companion to the Pebbles series of similar music; the title is technically preceded by "Pebbles Presents:". The title sounds like it might have come from a weather report, although "Highs" intends to mean "the best" (and is also an apparent drug reference), while the recordings on these albums were originally released in the mid-1960s.  L.A. '66 - Bees, Sandals, Chymes, etc A regional look at US '60s garage music.  AIP’s second volume in the Highs series continues their exploration of the mid-60s Los Angeles garage rock scene, heavily influenced by the happenings on the Sunset Strip (including both the riots and the folk-rock sounds of The Byrds). The one-two of “Tell Us Dylan” and “He’s Not There Anymore” are among my favorite garage-pop songs from throughout the entirety of the Pebbles/Highs universe. The Tangents take on “Hey Joe” is a worthy competitor to the Leaves’ hit, the W.C. Fields Memorial Electric String Band’s version of “Stepping Stone” adds a nice helping of garage distortion to the (later) Monkees classic, and the ferocious organ-driven “Back Seat ’38 Dodge” isn’t your father’s hot rod song.

TERRIBLE FEELINGS "BLANK HEADS" 7" (ERSTE THENK TONTRAGER)
TERRIBLE FEELINGS are four twenty-somethings from Sweden: Manuela sings, Anton plays guitar and sings, Willy plays bass and Andy plays drums. Together they play absolutely fantastic black angst-ridden power-pop and this is their 3rd - EP ( The 4 - songs from the demo in a "new outfit" aka new recorded and mixed etc. ! ) Members of the TERRIBLE FEELINGS play/have played in various other bands and projects, some very cool, some not even good. The hometown of the TERRIBLE FEELINGS is Malmö, a world-famous city for cool Punkrock- and Hardcore-bands like FY FAN, SKITKIDS, HERÄTYS, HÅRDA TIDER, SISTA SEKUNDEN (Andy plays the guitar), DIPPER and SLÖA KNIVAR. The band TERRIBLE FEELINGS formed in the fall of 2009, and their basic impetus was to do something that was thoroughly thought through and set them apart from other punk bands in their town. The band once described their sound as »sorta DISCHARGE meets LOST SOUNDS mixed with surf-guitars and 80ies Swedish punkrock. Or something. It's very melodic.« Rob Seaton from Canada voted them »AMAZING!!!« when his band STATUES shared stage with them in Malmö. Guess what. .. he’s right!

DIVINE RIGHT "PRAY FOR ME" 7" (RESIDUE)
Debut 7" from this new Chicago band featuring Steven from Loser Life / Human Mess on drums. This is some straight up, tear-ass early 80s-style hardcore with a catchy edge to it. It's mean as shit a la Negative Approach, but every song has this real solid groove that makes me want to mosh my ass off. Definitely one of the standout new hardcore bands I've heard... you can always trust Residue Records, and this 7" upholds their proud tradition.

BOOM BOOM KID "BBK" 7" (HYSTERIA)
Latest release from legendary Argentine punk figure BOOM BOOM KID. You can hear his previous band FUN PEOPLE's hardcore punk influence tinged with a power-pop sensibility. Vocals ranging from growls to wails weave through surf punk guitars, punching through frenzied melodies that stick in your head. This release is coming out in support for his unmissable US tour, those who have seen his unapologetically fun and frenetic shows already know what to expect.

POISON PLANET "OBLIVIOUS" 7" (THIRD PARTY)
For those that don't know, this 7" was originally released along side Punx Don't Drink in 2009. But the 1st press was only 100 copies due to an error at the pressing plant, thankfully it's available once more! Coming out of Chicago, IL, Poison Planet play five songs of fast, politically pissed off vegan straight edge hardcore that musically nods to bands like The Repos, 86 Mentality and Violent Minds.

JET STAXX "I'M GONNA BE THE BEST GUY" 7" (SING SING)
In the early 70's Mike Butcher worked as a studio technician at Morgan Studios in London. On relocating to Belgium a few years later to work at Morgan's other studio in Brussels he hooked up with co-worker Alan Ward (Elton Motello) to record two singles under the band names Feather and Rollerball as well as co-writing and playing guitar on most of Elton Motello's two albums. Mike Butcher also recorded two solo singles as Jet Staxx, the first 'I'm Gonna Be The Best Guy' / 'You'll Get The Chop' was released in Belgium (Topkapi 2103 131), Germany (Bellaphon BF 18594) and Holland (Scramble SRS 510.061) in the spring of 1978. In the studio, Butcher (vocals/guitar) was assisted by drummer Pascal Van Het Groenewoud and someone known as Randy Sod on bass, though it's likely Butcher played bass himself. The 2nd single 'French Girls' followed in September 1978. - James Denholm (Worthless Trash)

DWARF "GOTTA GET LOUDER" 7" (SING SING)
Once in a while a single gets plucked out of obscurity which is a total revelation and becomes an obsession to track down, but rarely does this same single get played over and over and you know it has the staying power to remain a firm favourite forever. I am very glad to say that this single is one of these rare beasts. It is everything you could ever wish for and absolutely ticks ALL the right boxes. How to put a tag on 'Gotta Get Loude'r? It sits somewhere between Proto-Punk, Bubblegum/Hard Rock and Powerpop. It's insanely catchy and an instant exuberant classic. What makes this even more amazing is that most of the band were 15 at the time!'I Won't Be Back' is stupendous in its snotty Teenage Punk attitude. I was thinking of The Runaways as I believed a girl singer was involved, but this is not the case as explained by Nick Piunti "that would be me, make that pre-pubescent me..." The guitars clang and crash, the drums are full power with added momentum of a glorious cowbell nailing everything down to the beat. So put both tracks together and you end up with the best coupling since Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton! - Robin Wills (PurePop) **The original release was issued without artwork. The reissue comes housed in a Sing Sing Records company sleeve.

CRITICAL MASS "SILVER SCREEN" 7" (LAST LAUGH)
They couldn't help that they were from Florida and God help you if you sleep on this reissue of the Sunshine State's first punk band!  Miami, Florida's Critical Mass rose out of the primordial ooze left in the snail-trail of the Sex Pistols' ill-fated southern U.S. tour with both sides showing dangerous levels of infection with Johnny Rotten inflection and Johnny Thunders-style guitar a year before The Eat ever recorded.  A must-have, caricatured punk classic with only 200 copies originally pressed and no picture sleeve ever issued.  If you don?t buy ten copies of the legit and band-sanctioned Critical Mass reissue on Last Laugh Records, there will truly be no one left to blame, but yourself!

EMBARRASSMENT, THE "SEX DRIVE/PATIO SET" 7" (LAST LAUGH)
Obtuse. Agitated. Art Punk. Neurotic. Gnarly. Gangly. Awkward. Nervous. Punk/Art/Pop. Fractured. It's amazing how many dumb adjectives can be written about a band when people futilely attempt to describe something they can't fully grasp. The Embarrassment formed in Wichita, Kansas in 1978 and along with a handful of other Midwestern bands, started to write and perform music which sounded nothing like what had come before them.

MY RIFLE "S/T" 7" (WARDANCE)
My Rifle new 7" ep . Ex-members of Life's Blood/Our Gang/Altercation unleash a blistering 4 song ep. Not retro or a rehash of past glories, this is now. Cover art by Sean Taggart. recorded by Andy Guida at 6III studios in 2011.

RANDOMS "ABCD" 7" (SYMPATHY)
Exact repro of this famous 1977 Dangerhouse record on green vinyl. Randoms had K.K. Barret from the Screamers on drums, John Doe from X on bass and Pat Garrett, later found in Black Randy And The Metrosquad and also one of the founders of Dangerhouse, on guitar and vocals.

CHEEKY "CHOKE ON A CHEESEBURGER" 7" (FREEDOM SCHOOL)
It's as sober and face punching of a debut EP as you'll ever heard. Super-solid musicianship doesn't often meet up with the kind of wonderfully warped minds that deliver lines like "You Namby Pamby! You Fucking Twinkie!" The music is a unique and brilliant blend of Everything Sucks-era Descendents, Sicko and the Muffs. It's pure genius, and they've only just begun.

BREAK AWAY "FOR LIFE" 7" (MIND ROT)
The debut 7" record from Richmond's own Break Away, the next up and coming straight edge band out of the River city. These guys will satisfy anybody who has the slightest liking to bands such as Youth of Today, Straight Ahead and Floorpunch.

CHARLES MANSON "INNER SANCTUM" 7" (MAGIC BULLET)
Originally released by our friends at Holy Terror Records, Inner Sanctum was the first sampling of a grippe of recently unearthed and previously unheard CHARLES MANSON music played and recorded himself from deep within prison walls.  This is the original 7″ that begat the ”ATWA” series of full length recordings on Magic Bullet Records. All material appears in its original, raw, and unadulterated form for maximum fascination and authenticity. This reissue is limited edition in nature and comes inside of a special silkscreened jacket made of entirely recycled material to complement the ecological philosophies contained within CHARLES MANSON‘s music and message.

MIND AS PRISON / D.O.C. - SPLIT 7" (BLASTCAT)
Disciples of Christ from DC play raging grind (Chris from Magrudergrind drums), and Mind As Prison plays ripping grind (Mough from A Warm Gun). If you like grind, don’t think… just get it! myspace.com/mxaxpx myspace.com/disciplesofchrist202 MOLOCH / CORPUS DEI – split 7″ (feast of tentacles) $4 Moloch from the UK play awesome sludge ala Eyehategod or Grief. Corpus Dei are from Buffalo NY and play brutal hardcore in the vein of His Hero Is Gone played by members of They Live.

MIND AS PRISON "MARYLAND GRINDCORE" 7" (BLASTCAT)
There is something powerful in the water in the area in and abouve our state's capital. That power has seeped out and created some mutant musicians who play grindcore more insane than any others. First it spawned Magrudergrind, then it birthed Triac, then there was A Warm Gun, following later was Disciples of Christ... and finally from the goo of infernal blasterdom came Mind As Prison. MAP plays masterful Baltimore grindcore. Superior blasting, raw classic metal chops thrown in on top of a huge wall of noise. Imagine P.L.F. if they got all raged out on Death and Nasum. Still having trouble believing this record exists? Like the jaded Toxic Avenger of grindcore, they will knock you out with the mop of blasting justice. They simply won't waste your time.

BACKSLIDER "S/T" 7" (BLASTCAT)
2nd offering from philadelphia 2 man blast unit BACKSLIDER. s/t 7". 13 songs. fast. angry. violent.

FUCK DETECTOR "S/T" 7" (DUMB CHOICE)
Debut 7" from Fargo, ND's Fuck Detector. Noisy 80s hardcore/AmRep-y/maybe a bit of Shellac or Nirvana-y type stuff.  Seven songs.

BOMBORAS "FORBIDDEN PLANET" 7" (DIONYSUS)
Before the release of their "Savage Island" album, The Bomboras released this three-track EP on Dionysus. The record has their signature sound; plenty' of reverb, farfisa organ and the band's very own edgy approach to instrumental/surf music in very organic/analog sound. The cover was drawn and designed by Shag (as were all the rest of the Bomboras releases) a few years before his worldwide fame.

MUMMIES, THE "YOU MUST FIGHT IN THE PLANET OF THE APES" 7" (SYMPATHY)
Classic 90s garage, you know the name. this is a three song EP of theirs from 1993. Originally hailing from San Mateo, California, the band was formed by Trent Ruane (organ, vocals), Maz Kattuah (bass), Larry Winther (guitar) and Russell Quan (drums).[1] They became a key part of San Francisco's burgeoning garage punk scene, along with The Phantom Surfers. With influences of surf rock, 1950s and 1960s garage rock bands such as The Sonics and more contemporary garage punk bands like Thee Mighty Caesars the Mummies eschewed the contemporary rock music of their time.

BIRTH DEFORMITIES "DEMO" TAPE
Birth Deformities is a new band from Chicago, consisting of members of Culo with Nick (Cowabunga Records CEO) on vocals. Taking influence from early 80's NY/NJ bands, similar to the approach of Omegas and Culo (obviously). This is probably one of my favorite demos of 2011, and I'm stoked to get to re-press these. Fans of cult hardcore shit like Chronic Sick and Fatal Rage will dig it, uptight PC idiots will hate it.

VIOLENT REACTION "DEMO 2011" TAPE (MIND ROT)
This is the USA version of the Violent Reaction Demo tape, the one man edge band created by Liverpool's own Tom Pimlott who fronted Nowhere Fast and played in a slew of other notable UK bands. Violent Reaction plays no nonsense hardcore influenced by Out Cold, Negative Approach & Last Rights to name a few. If any of the mentioned bands are something you're into then you NEED to pick this up.

DESKONOCIDOS "SINGLES" TAPE (BLINDED)
DESKONOCIDOS play the absolute best combination of '80s Spanish punk, dark post punk, and some infectious brand of melodic proto hardcore.  11 songs in all on this tape, collecting the tracks from their S/T on 540, Problemas on Lengua Armada, split with SACRED SHOCK on Todo Destruido, and 2 unreleased songs.

STRAIGHTJACKET NATION "S/T" TAPE (BLINDED)
One of Australia's best in recent years collect their CHEAP KICKS LP and 6 Song 7" EP (19 songs total) on this cassette.  Raging manic hardcore, they get comparisons to H100s, 9 Shocks, and other Clevo style stuff like that, if that helps. Get this.

BRAZEN HELL - DEMO TAPE
From canada, fast and heavy post-apocalyptic hardcore. They have a track on the CITY LIMITS comp that came out earlier this year ... this demo is six songs and is limited to 100 copies.

Latest issue of this killer English-language zine from Italy. The centerpiece here is an interview with the GREAT Italian hardcore band (or project, really) Fogna, but you also get interviews with Detonate Records, Shortlived, and Reckless Aggression. This one is all music all the time... a solid read.

GOBBLINZ "S/T" CD (NAT)
Formed in 1975 in Peterborough UK GOBBLINZ were STEVE DUNMORE (drums), IAN GRAHAM (guitar, vocals), DAVE COLTON (bass), and CHRIS ALLEN (keys, vocals). All had spent several years playing clubs and pubs in a previous band but with Ian’s songwriting they decided to change direction and went into Beck Studios Wellingborough in 1976 to recorded a demo. The band soon got signed by Pinnacle and their first release “London” sold well. However after a split with their management the band recorded the Communique EP which is now one of the most sought after 7-inch new wave releases. Ian left the band in late 1978 to form THE NAME who became well known on the UK Mod scene, Dave joining a few months later. Includes the tracks from both of the band’s singles, along with eight unreleased gems. Packaged with a 20-page booklet with photos, lyrics, etc. Imported from Japan.

Plus a slew of bonus tracks including 3 unreleased tracks, "No Sense" from the Storm the Streets session, and live tracks from their tour with GREEN DAY. THE RAMONES had always been a SCREECHING WEASEL influence, but THE RIVERDALES took it to the next level. Just look at Ben Weasel's hair for goodness sake.

CYCOTIC YOUTH "S/T" CD (PUNK RECORDS)
Cycotic Youth CD contains all 3 of there Demos 1985 , 1986 , 1987 . The 1987 has 2 of the 3 founding members of cryptic slaughter in the band. The 1986 demo personally I think is one of the best hardcore demos of the 1980s . Sadly the band was never able to make an album when they were still active, after 25 years this is there debut Release. Strongly influenced by the 1st Suicidal Album & Neighborhood Watch in music style. This is true Classic Venice Hardcore Punk Rock at its best, Ripping Hardcore; they are actually from the Santa Monica Suicidal Punks Vinyl is to follow later in the year.
