WEBSTORE UPDATE! New OMEGAS, CAREER SUICIDE, BRAIN KILLER, and MORE!

I wasn't lying when I said I was going to be keeping these updates coming! Trust me I wouldn't take up your time if I didn't have to, but as luck would have it, the new releases just keep on pouring into the distro.  Before I get to that though, just a quick reminder that THE SHIRKS "Cry Cry Cry" 7" and the NIGHT BIRDS "Fresh Kills Vol. 1" CD are out now and available in the webstore!  There is still some RED VINYL for the SHIRKS 7", and the NIGHT BIRDS CD is only $7, or you can get the CD and the S/T 7" for just $10!  Thanks to everyone who has ordered so far! I've been trying my hardest to stay on top of the orders, so most are shipping out within a day or two and I hope to continue that pace as the months go on.

Before I begin with the webstore update ... DO YOU WRITE REVIEWS, DO A BLOG, ZINE, RADIO SHOW, or anything of that nature? If so, I'm always looking for new places to send promos ... if you are someone who would like to receive (and hopefully listen to, write about, or play) promos, please email me at gravemistakerecords@gmail.com with PROMOS in the subject line.  Please include some information about what exactly it is that you do (zine info, a website URL, radio station info, etc etc) and let me know if there were any specific releases you are looking to check out.

Now that that's out of the way, on to the fun stuff ...

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE 4/29/11:

OMEGAS "BLASTS OF LUNACY" LP (PARTS UNKNOWN)
"Montreal-based, lords of slam-skank Omegas have to be one of the best bands in hardcore at the moment. Their brand of anthemic hardcore gives devotion to their NYHC influences with a uniquely snarky street punk attitude, all of which is filtered through a little crazy, making the title of their debut LP, Blasts Of Lunacy, all too appropriate.... Blasts of Lunacy is twelve tracks of hardcore wizardry. This particular release sees the band emphasizing their NYHC influences even more than on previous material. With this 23-minute LP, the band has proven that it is able to maintain momentum through an entire full length and that their particular brand of over-the-top hardcore, that for some reason that I cannot explain, never veers into stupidity or inane absurdity. When a band is able to get you to chant "Taste the street meat" or "You got your first shocks of manhood," they must really have something special going for them. These sound ridiculous, but they fit the context of the band's aesthetic, the songs themselves, and their respective records.  The band delivers hit after hit, banger after banger. It would be pointless (and unnecessarily boring) to analyze each track on here, but I will say that my favorites (as of now) are "F.S.O.M." (the new "Street Meet"), "You Ain't Nuthin," and the band's credo, "Slam Skank." Ultimately, this is definitely one of my favorite LPs to come out this year and I can't see why this won't be considered one of the best hardcore records of the year. It's just too addictive." - icoulddietomorrow.blogspot.com

BRAIN KILLER "EVERY ACTUAL STATE IS CORRUPT" LP (DERANGED)
Here it is, BRAIN KILLER returns with their long awaited LP!  Brain Killer's first full-length release picks up right where their demo and 7" left off with blazing fast America hardcore mixed with a heavy dose of noisy Japanese crust, and a layer of UK peace punk.  Nice gatefold jacket. For fans of DISCHARGE, DISCLOSE, DEATHREAT and DEVOID OF FAITH.

HIGH TENSION WIRES "WELCOME NEW MACHINE" LP (DIRTNAP)
Welcome New Machine, a perfect synthesis of their previous 2 albums. Rocks as hard as Send A Message, while incorporating the nuances they began developing on Midnight Cashier. A fair amount of ground is covered here, from the Marked Men's trademark choppy pop sound to straightforward punk, to darker-edged postpunk, some new-wavey bits, and an absolutely stunning Teengenerate-style garagepunk ripper sung by Mark Ryan, all capped off by Mike Wiebe's seemingly endless font of unusual, interesting lyrics. This is by far their best album yet, and coming from us, that is saying a lot! High Tension Wires remain primarily a studio band, having played about 10 shows in their entire existence.

CAREER SUICIDE "CHERRY BEACH" 7" (DIRTNAP)
A long time in the making, this 7" is the proper release of a UK/Northern Ireland tour-only single released by the band in 2008. Re-recorded versions of two of the three songs on the tour 7" appear here (sadly, the Cuby And The Blizzards cover has been lost to the sands of time), along with two brand new scorchers heard for the first time. The cover art is brand new as well, featuring kick-ass, cartoon-inspired graphics from Dave Neeson, as well as an 11" x 17", double-sided poster/insert. 7" includes digital download.

URBAN BLIGHT "TOTAL WAR" 7" (STATIC SHOCK)
Following on from last years 'More Reality' 12" ep on Slasher Records, Toronto's Urban Blight are back with five new tracks of blown out hardcore punk. These new tracks, while still mining the Abused / SSD sound, also bring forth the Discharge and The Insane infulence even more. This is hardcore as it's meant to be. The 7" comes housed in a 6 panel poster sleeve, to go up next to all of the Crass and UK82 ones on you wall.

NEO CONS "S/T" 7" (DERANGED)
Fronted by Jason, formerly of 86 Mentality, Neo Cons unleash six rock 'n' roll-inspired punk tracks delivered with the same snarl as bands like New Bomb Turks and Brutal Knights.

CULO "TOXIC VISION" 7" (DERANGED)
The follow-up to their highly praised ‘military trend’ 7” (see MRR review below), TOXIC VISION is CULO’s third 7” and it is a scorcher. Pure piss and vinegar hardcore delivered at high velocity and at no expense to catchy riffing. Mandatory! ‘This ripper will soon be filed under my “this fuckin’ rules!” category, never to be picked out during a desperate purging of the shelves. Listening to this gives me comfort in knowing that the torch of straight-up, yet distinctive hardcore is being passed along through good hands. These dudes throw down fast and frantic traditional HC that sounds like a bit of JERRYS KIDS mixed with Italian hardcore and a dose of fucking whatever it is that sounds just right to these ears. Four tracks and all of them are amazing. And now I’m getting a strange record collection sensation that my life will hereby be incomplete until I track down a copy of this EP for myself. Get this!’

LEATHER "STERILE" 7" (JADE TREE)
With only a hard to find cassette demo, one sold out 7”, a smattering of blog posts and some messageboard banter in their wake, Philadelphia’s Leather have just begun to emerge from an existence unknown to all but those “in the know.” Sterile is surely not the first adjective that crosses one’s mind when confronted with the noisy hardcore on this 4 song EP, aptly described by compatriot and Clockcleaner frontman John Sharkey as the likely result “...if Tad Doyle had owned Age Of Quarrel and actually listened to it.” It’s safe to say that picking up this vinyl will mean reliving these ten minutes hundreds of times over while waiting for the next recorded dose or a chance to witness a live show (likely to be in a dilapidated warehouse or a basement as grimy as their sound).

FRANCIS HAROLD AND THE HOLOGRAMS "HANG THE GOAT" 7" (GOING UNDERGROUND)
The first new recordings from Arizona's favorite smashers since the "Who Said These Were Happy Times " full length. Two long overdue new blasts of Francis Harold's venomous power pressed to a mere 550 copies . Raw and heavy jams in the bands trademark style.

ON PARADE "S/T" 7" (DESENSITIZED)
The debut 7" EP from Bakersfield, CA's ON PARADE. Seven tracks of excellent violent, self-loathing, straight edge influenced hardcore for those who are down with the early Boston scene. 500 total

NOOSE "IT'S YOUR TIME" 7" (REACT!)
Noose is a vegan sxe band from Chicago that draws heavy influence from the early Boston vibe. This EP is a ONE TIME ONLY pressing of their 2010 demo that matches up raging core with very well thought out and written lyrics that are delivered with the intensity that can only be mustered by a Philosophy PhD. Fuck art/No respect....indeed.

JUNGLE FEVER "CRYIN' BLOOD" 7" (WINDIAN)
Debut single from this San Diego power punk dudette/dude trio. Ramones like 3-chord DSPM guitar thrashing and speedy 4/4 drum bashing with a Girls-In-The-Garage vibrating groove. Songs about getting screwed over by that special someone, you know, Rock and Roll. This band is up to good things, more singles on the way.

ELECTRICUTIONS, THE "FORGOTTEN CITY" 7" (WINDIAN)
Razor Sharp Early/punk political slashers with driving almost power pop hooks. One of the few bands that combine catchy well played punk rock with meaningful lyrics. Produced by Kid Congo Powers!

POINTS, THE "BEAT IN HELL" 7" (WINDIAN)
Washington D.C. garage punk bashers latest single. Pitchfork 7 out of 10!

LOVER! "HOME ALONE" 7" (WINDIAN)
A couple more perfect pop tunes from Memphis/Chicago transplant Rich Crook [Reatards, Lost Sounds, Knaughty Knights]. Lover! continues to churn out garage-pop thrashers and shows no signs of slowing down with a full LP release and European tour in January 2011. The A-Side "Home Alone" is an ultimate example of what Rich does consistantly, writes and records hook filled Rock and Roll in his room, alone.

SIRS, THE "TIGHT LINES" 7" (PSYCHIC VOLT)
Debut 7" by central NJ power punks. These first four tracks written by The Sirs's late guitarist Zack Finch and recorded and produced by Chris Pierce (Doc Hopper, Deadguy, Groucho Marxists). A solid and clean production reminiscent of a late 70's UK punk/new wave feel with a hint of mid-late 90's punk and indie influence. For fans of: The Undertones, Buzzcocks, Adverts

MIRRORS AND WIRES "SLEIGHT OF HAND" 7" (PSYCHIC VOLT)
Freaked out psychedelic instrumental surf. Haunting, theremin-laced weirdness and punk sensibilities. Featuring members of The Degenerics, Zhenia Golov and For Science.

RADIO EXILES "SECRET STATION" 7" (PSYCHIC VOLT)
The newest edition to the Psychic Volt family, Radio Exiles, brings you a couple of catchy tracks in well-deserving flashy packaging. These guys have been rocking the New Jersey / New York area with their own brand of melodic rock and roll. Snag this debut release before your friend has a chance to tell you about them.

STATE VIOLENCE / LTW - SPLIT 7" (CRICKET CEMETARY)
"Sounds exactly like the cover would lead you to believe. The State Violence side is some fast, crushing, noisy as fuck hardcore played by DC’s scummiest. Worth it for their side alone." (http://wrmiii.tumblr.com/) L&T&W have clearly taken up residence in the city of Gravity Records, and surely must hang out on the weekends at the neighborhood bar with Born Against, and Clickatat Ikatowi.

BUCKET FLUSH "S/T" 7" (EAGLEBAUER)
"Wow. I don't know shit about BUCKET FLUSH but this brand new EP fuckin' rules.  I seriously thought this was some unreleased material from the early '80s, but apparently these Philly aficionados just did their homework and somehow captured that non-elusive raw 80's basement sound in the studio, ProTools be damned.  They're emulating a different sound than I'm used to being rehashed - that '82-83 punk/melodic hardcore sound akin to Canada's SUBHUMANS, SoCal slaves D.I, even a little ZERO BOYS.  Thankfully they go beyond just emulation with four solid tracks that easily stand up on their own." - MAXIMUMROCKNROLL

TROWELS, THE "S/T" 7" (EAGLEBAUER)
Skate thrash from dudes who actually skate! Self-released by FDR Skatepark locals THE TROWELS, distributed by Eaglebauer Enterprises. 4 songs of metal influenced hardcore with unholy gutteral vocals.

B-LINES "S/T" LP (DERANGED)
B-Lines follow-up their sold out debut 7" with nine more short, sharp odes to awkwardness, alienation, and their hometown of Vancouver. Manic vocals atop perfectly simple and tuneful songs played with a frenzy that lands them in the sweet spot between hardcore and pop-punk. In keeping with their belief that LPs are for prog rock, it's all said and done before you'll have time to conceptualize your next snack.  Initial pressing of 500 copies.  Includes 8.5"x5" zine of lyrics and art, plus digital download.  Artwork by Melanie Coles.

JESUIT "DISCOGRAPHY" LP and 7" (MAGIC BULLET)
JESUIT were an unrelenting, noisy hardcore band from Virginia Beach, VA. They existed from the mid-90′s up until the changing of the century. In their wake, they left a rather nice-sized dent in the intensely-PC witch-hunt/”safe space” era of DIY hardcore. Whereas events attributed to Charles Manson are often credited with bringing a savage and brutal end to the peace, love, and drug culture of the 60′s, events surrounding bands like JESUIT and GEHENNA not only elicited controversy at every tour stop, but pushed a movement toward hardcore finding its more violent, unpredictable, and entirely irreverent roots as the “Portlandia” cult of 90′s hardcore crashed to a halt.  Comprised of childhood friends Nate Newton (who went on to CONVERGE, OLD MAN GLOOM, and DOOMRIDERS), Brian Benoit (who went on to THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN), Brett Matthews, Kelly Posadas, and J. How, JESUIT managed to crank out twelve scathing blasts of fury and anguish in their time.  Discography features all twelve in reverse chronological order from the final 7″ on Hydra Head all the way back to the demo tape. All twelve tracks have been meticulously restored and remixed by Kurt Ballou at God City before being remastered by Bob Lipton at Peerless. The result is a behemoth of an album that sounds and feels more relevant than anything being marketed as “hardcore for the hardcore” today.

WHITE WIRES "WWII" LP (DIRTNAP)
Ottawa bubblegum garage explosion! A sun-soaked garage-pop gem that will satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. Simple, haunting, instantly memorable pop songs that’ll leave you glad to be alive.

HOMOSTUPIDS "STRAWBERRY ORANGE PEACH BANANNA" LP (FASHIONABLE IDIOTS)
Cleveland kings of Skull Music return to smash with this brand new mini album. Nine more tracks of their signature primitive retard rock done to perfection. This time around the Stupids see themselves recording in a real studio and the results are crushing.

STIMULATORS "LOUD FAST RULES" LP (ROIR)
In 1977, Denise Mercedes returned from London to start her own band, recruiting Patrick Mack (gtr & voc) artist/fashionista Nick Marden on bass and, after trying out the likes of Jerry Nolan (Heartbreakers, NY Dolls) and Johnny Blitz (Dead Boys) on drums, settled on a then 11 year-old Harley Flanagan (Cro- Mags, Harley’s War).  A long awaited re-issue on vinyl & CD of the celebrated ROIR cassette, the Stimulators’ Loud Fast Rules! is more than just a record; it’s a piece of New York punk history. The band’s only full-length work (amongst a handful of coveted 7”s) is a must record for any self-respecting punk’s collection.

TALK IS POISON "CONDENSED HUMANITY: THE PRANK EPS" LP (PRANK)
Leading the charge of bay area hardcore bands in the mid-late '90s, Talk Is Poison belted out ferocious punk rock with a thunderous rhythm section, howled vocals, and a dual guitar attack. This collection compiles all of the band's recorded material, including the "Straight To Hell" 7", the split with Deathreat and the "Control" 7". Members went on to play key roles in Dead And Gone, Look Back And Laugh, Suicide Party, Year Future and more.

NO STATIK "WE ALL DIE IN THE END" LP (PRANK)
Featuring Ruby of Scrotum Grinder on vocals, Robert of What Happens Next? and Artimus Pyle on bass and Mark of Look Back And Laugh and Destroy on guitar, this Bay Area four-piece brings six tracks of fast hardcore that follows along the same lines as LBAL, Deathreat and Talk Is Poison.

PESD "POLITIKAREPOIZONEKURVAE" LP (PRANK)
Powerfully colliding stripped-down hardcore with an updated version of the offbeat cold wave/new wave fusion of classic 80s Polish punk, PESD (Post Extreme Stress Disorder) pull no punches in harsh vocal attack, pounding rhythms and searing hook-laden hardcore riffs. The fast tracks tear with inventiveness and all-out furor of the best of international hardcore records, then keyboards and early industrial sound effects come out in the mid tempo songs to cast the record in a dark, near-gothic light, still retaining the aggressive urgency and mood. An inventive and powerful collaboration project between the guitarist of Poland's Legendary Post Regiment and the singer of the equally legendary Tragedia, "Politikarepoizonekurvae" was originally released in 2005 on CD on Poland's Trujaca Fala label. This was so glued to the Prank Record's office stereo and is one of our absolute favorite records of the last few years, Prank decided to press it stateside. The U.S. version has been re-mastered at Fantasy by George Horn and comes in deluxe packaging. Think Die Kreuzen at its darkest moments and perhaps BGK at faster moments.

WORLD BURNS TO DEATH "THE GRAVEYARD OF UTOPIA" LP (PRANK)
Searing guitars, a thundering and rapid fire drum pound, and harsh vocals spitting forth a brutal vision: this third LP from Austin, Texas's World Burns To Death further evolves and refines their trademark sound as dark, ramcharging ultra-punk comes full circle. Here is the speed and severity of their debut 45's and the refinement, heaviness and precision of their two previous landmark albums. Vinyl version comes with a 12 page booklet.

CHALK CIRCLE "REFLECTION" LP (MISSISSIPPI)
Reflection is a retrospective album by the legendary Washington, DC punk band Chalk Circle. Spanning 1981-1983, the LP includes twelve songs from out-of-print compilations, live shows, and unreleased demos. The story of Chalk Circle begins with the vital music scene that developed in and around Washington, DC in the late 1970s and early 1980s...Chalk Circle burst through DC’s musical and gender barriers in ways that they didn’t explicitly set out to, and in doing so they inspired and influenced all the diverse and varied musicians that they befriended. Finally brought together as one album, these songs are simultaneously thoughtful and joyful, their sound splendid and distinctive, and still great to dance to!

CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE "S/T" LP (MAGIC BULLET)
After several years out of print, Magic Bullet Records is proud to re-issue S/T, the seminal album from Denver, CO’s CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE.  Informally known as the “Stereo” record, the posthumous impact and influence, while difficult to gauge completely, is nonetheless completely undeniable.  Successful mainstream acts such as JIMMY EAT WORLD (who attained their early start via a split 7″ with CFD) have gone on record numerous times in stating the importance of the band, both in context of their own band and independent music on the whole.  The July 2008 issue of Alternative Press went so far as to declare CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE as one of “23 Bands Who Shaped Punk” itself (alongside FUGAZI, HÜSKER DÜ, BAD BRAINS, BLACK FLAG, DESCENDENTS, INTEGRITY, et al).  The consensus among many was that CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE was the band that gave punk rock that crucial moment where it realized that slowness and melody could be just as powerful and communicative as blast beats and all-out throaty vocal assaults.  Some describe it as the “second wave” of “emo,” perhaps the splintering off point for a host of punk rock’s sub-genres to come.  But we prefer to look at it in much simpler terms: an undeniable classic.  The 2010 edition of S/T features all 10 original tracks in their original order.  While the mixes have been preserved, all 10 tracks have been remastered for full fidelity.  As a special bonus, every copy of the album is accompanied by a complimentary bonus DVD, featuring the band’s final 1996 performance (digitally transferred from the original VHS camcorder technology of the era).  Both discs are housed inside of new packaging featuring an updated design coordinated between the label and all original band members some 14 years later.  Very few records possess the inherent traits that allow them to somehow become more significant as time moves forward.  Unquestionably, CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE‘s S/T is one of them.

ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS "WHEN THE WORLD COMES DOWN" LP (MAGIC BULLET)
When the World Comes Down is the third full-length studio album from Oklahoma darlings and multi-platinum recording artists THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS.  Originally recorded in 2007 and released in 2008 on CD/digital format by Interscope Records, the album toiled in vinyl format limbo, as what was to be mere weeks of waiting begat months begat years.  Having become well-acquainted in years prior, AAR guitarist Mike Kennerty and Magic Bullet’s Brent Eyestone (Kennerty had originally been a mailorder customer of the label, Eyestone remixed AAR‘s “Can’t Take It”) took the helm and made it their collective mission to finally see the LP version become a reality in 2010.  On October 12, 2010, the combined and continuous efforts of the ginormous band and DIY indie label (both parties unabashed music geeks with sizable and varied personal record collections) see When the World Comes Down hitting stores worldwide once again, this time in full-sized LP format for the first time ever.

DOOMRIDERS "BLACK THUNDER" LP (MAGIC BULLET)
DOOMRIDERS “Black Thunder”, was recorded and engineered by Kurt Ballou (Converge) @ Godcity Studios. Recorded primarily in a live setting, “Black Thunder” is a collection of thirteen unbridled songs filled with spontaneity and vigor. From the infectious hook of the title track, to the soul wrenching track “Voice of Fire”, “Black Thunder” is as eclectic of an album as they come. Paying homage to their collective musical heroes, while boldly serving as a monster of an introduction to the independent music community worldwide.

CHARLES MANSON "AIR" LP (MAGIC BULLET)
Long before the fear, the media fixation, and cult of personality surrounding what we’ve come to know publicly as CHARLES MANSON, a 27-year old inmate at McNeil Island Penitentiary, dubbed “Little Charlie” by those on the inside, found true respite and solace in the form of a six string guitar. Late-blooming aside, MANSON took to the guitar like a fish to water. This initially came much to the surprise of his first guitar teacher, fellow inmate and legendary Ma Barker Gang heavy Alvin “Creepy” Karpis. Sympathetic to MANSON‘s tumultuous, institutionalized upbringing (which saw him in countless orphanages, reformatories, and prisons all throughout his young life), Karpis would later pen “it (was) time someone did something for him.”  And as Karpis would stick to his pledge, Charlie would not disappoint.  By the time of his release in 1967 (some 6 years after his first lesson from Karpis), MANSON wandered into the streets of San Francisco already quite the accomplished singer and songwriter.  True to form, and no less than a year later, MANSON found himself both on the radar of major producers and in front of the boards of a legendary studio session funded by BEACH BOYS drummer Dennis Wilson. That recording would be titled LIE and ultimately saw release on ESP Disk on March 6 of 1970. To this day, it serves as MANSON‘s only formal studio session between his parole from prison in 1967 and the historic death-penalty-turned-life-sentence ruling handed down in 1970. Yet the influence of MANSON‘s music continues to be immeasurable.  Wilson himself would re-pen the MANSON cut “Cease to Exist” in 1969 for the BEACH BOYS, who in turn recorded it for their “20/20″ album under the new song title “Never Learn Not to Love.” 2010 marks a solid 40-year stint of incarceration for CHARLES MANSON under his life sentence. Through all that time, MANSON has been by all accounts almost monk-like in his commitment and continued work toward both his music and a personal environmental philosophy he coined “ATWA” (an acronym for “Air, Trees, Water, Animals”) specifically.  AIR, TREES, WATER, and ANIMALS is a 4-part, seasonal album series by CHARLES MANSON on Magic Bullet Records that brings together these two passions. Each individual album features previously-unheard, authorized, and exclusive songs with a sharp focus on the non-sustainable environmental conditions mankind has wrought for itself. The recordings span numerous sessions and are presented in their raw, natural, and unadulterated form. Each installment also features striking artwork and careful presentation centered around the tenets and philosophies of ATWA (including exclusive paintings rendered by MANSON himself).  When all of the sensationalism, fear, projection, and knee-jerk response is stripped away, all that remains is a man named Charlie, strumming and picking away on his guitar and sending his passions into the ether.

THIS WILL DESTROY YOU "S/T" 2xLP (MAGIC BULLET)
From deep in the heart of Texas, San Marcos to be exact, This Will Destroy You bring forth their sophomore effort, a total of 7 tracks clocking in at 52 minutes. They seem to have drunk from the same well as fellow Texans Explosions In The Sky, playing an atmospheric, moody brand of instrumental rock with occasional strings and buildups dispersed throughout a very layered sound. Now available on vinyl.

THIS WILL DESTROY YOU / LYMBYC SYSTEM "FIELD STUDIES" LP (MAGIC BULLET)
Good friends Lymbyc System and This Will Destroy You continue to distance themselves from the hordes of instrumental and post-rock bands saturating the world, with This Will Destroy You providing two tracks that continue with their dreamy sound loosely inspired by Explosions In The Sky and Lymbyc System bringing three tracks with more of an electric base, slightly resembling The Album Leaf.

QUEST FOR FIRE "S/T" LP (HS!BF)
"This record will blow yer fukkn mind, punk. This is what happens when kids who are way smarter than you (trust me, they are) get way drunker than you (trust me, they do) and fucking shred the shit out of whatever piece of shit instrument they can find. QUEST FOR FIRE can play circles around 97% of the bands reviewed in this month's rag, but not fukkn once will you think they are showing off; instead you will realize that they simply had no choice but to use those otherworldly chops to convey the most intense, acid-drenched musical message in the goddamned universe. Never in my adult life have I so enthusiastically welcomed the gratuitous use of a wah-wah pedal, and seldom have seemingly incongruous song structures so seamlessly switched from Adderall-laced stoner grooves to face-melting land speed hardcore and then melted my furry face with solo-laden breakdowns. In the most simple terms, this is the best hardcore record featured in this issue of MRR, but delving deeper, QUEST FOR FIRE made something truly original, which is a serious feat in the narrow confines of this punk crap to which we all sold our souls. This LP will fly over the heads and under the radar of the foolish punks, but those who learn...soon they will know. Complete fukkn brilliance." -MAXIMUMROCKNROLL

LOST TRIBE "THE DAWN" DEMO TAPE
LOST TRIBE is a new band from Richmond, VA playing dark brooding punk.  Some have likened the soudn to the '83 LA Deathrock scene, as well as 80's peace punk bands like THE SYSTEM, RUDIMENTARY PENI, ADS, etc ... "Really cool tape that was self released and made by the band. The tape consists of old unused demo tracks from 2007, unreleased tracks from the sessions of both the 1st 7'' and the Tinnitus EP and then 3 new songs the band recorded last year which sound a lot like Koro meets Mecht Mensch sort of? A nice little release that shows the progression the band has made. Includes Deep Wound, SSD and Necros covers too!" - cowabungarecords.com

IMPOSTERS - FIRST FOUR YEARS TAPE
Cool cassette collection from Hermosa Beach's THE IMPOSTERS.  This tape has 16 songs featuring their demo, cover and early cut tracks.

THE SHIRKS "Cry Cry Cry" 7" & NIGHT BIRDS "Fresh Kills Vol. 1" CD OUT NOW!!!

Two brand new releases are now available!  Both of these are available for mailorder direct in the Grave Mistake webstore, and should be popping up in your favorite stores and distros shortly.  Any Stores or Distros looking to carry copies of these new releases (or any other Grave Mistake releases), please see below about wholesale information!

If you do a blog, zine, or find yourself writing about records in places where other people will read them, then get in touch with me about receiving promos! Contact info is below!

Now, on to the new releases ....

GRAVE045: THE SHIRKS "Cry Cry Cry" 7"
This is EP number four from one of Washington DC's finest, THE SHIRKS. CRY CRY CRY features three more infectious, guitar driven punk rock 'n roll A-Sides with 70's punk feel - there's a heavy SAINTS / Aussie KBD sound present in these tunes - run through the 90's garage filter while maintaining a raw and primitive vibe. To put things into perspective, Terminal Boredom might have put it best in a review of their last 7" on Windian, referring to the band's style as "East Coast tough-as-shit leather jacket punk bad ass-ness" ... while I'm not 100% sure what that means, I can't really disagree with it either because it sounds kinda perfect. THE SHIRKS have been at it for a few years now, with each release better than then next - if you have yet to check them out, then what better place to start than with this 7"?

I've got about 50 copies left of the RED VINYL version (out of 100), so head over to the webstore and grab yourself a copy. I was also able to score more distro copies of both their previous 7" on Windian, and their debut 7" on Big Neck as well! I highly recommend picking up every one of these singles!!!

GRAVE048: NIGHT BIRDS "Fresh Kills Vol. 1" CD
Hopefully you've heard NIGHT BIRDS by now, as they've made a name for themselves over the past year with three incredible 7"s and a killer live show. In preparation for their full-length LP, "The Other Side of Darkness" due out summer 2011, we decided to give you all a little recap just in case you need to play catch-up before the LP hits. This CD compiles the first two years of the band's existence; including their 2009 demo, the "Killer Waves" 7" on Art of the Underground, the "Self-Titled" EP on Dirtnap / Grave Mistake, and the very recently released "Midnight Movies" 7" on No Way Records. If you have yet to check out NIGHT BIRDS, then this might be a perfect starting point because you get it all at once! 15 songs in all, packaged in a concise layout with flyers, photos, and lyrics. These Jersey boys take all of the best elements from bands like ADOLESCENTS, D.I., AGENT ORANGE, and DEAD KENNEDYS (to name a few), to create some of the most infectious snotty surf-influenced hardcore punk this side of Rikk Agnew's cat corpse. There is no doubt that the NIGHT BIRDS are going to be the soundtrack to your summer so get hip to 'em now or pose hard later!

The Fresh Kills CD will be available in the webstore for $7 plus shipping through the end of the month … I also have a package deal going which will get you not only the CD, but the Night Birds "S/T" 7" (Grave Mistake / Dirtnap) as well for $10 plus shipping.

I also have a very small amount of the "Midnight Movies" 7" that came out earlier this year on No Way available … the first press on this 7" is almost gone so grab it while you can!

STILL NEW FOR 2011:

Don't forget, I still have the following new releases available! There is still some limited colored vinyl available for the Deep Sleep LP, Government Warning LP, and Coke Bust 7" so pick em up while you can!

GRAVE042: DEEP SLEEP "TURN ME OFF" LP/CD
Five years and three 7" EPs since the band's inception, Baltimore's DEEP SLEEP finally unleash their first LP on the world.  If you've been following the band through 2008's MANIC EUPHORIA and 2009's PARANOID FUTURES, you have more than likely noticed that DEEP SLEEP has slowly but steadily been morphing into an unclassifiable superhuman mutant; feeding off of a steady diet of ALL, DESCENDENTS, and other assorted goodies from the SST / CRUZ catalogs, leaving a trail of destruction and fast food wrappers in it's wake.  Recorded in the band's own house / practice spot (Wallride Manor) and mastered by the one and only Stephen Egerton, TURN ME OFF finds DEEP SLEEP's sound growing and expanding in every direction; the fast songs are faster, the hooks throughout are catchier than ever; each of the ten tracks on this LP is defined with it's own distinctive guitar blitzkreig, and interlaced with one of the most exhilarating rhythm sections in hardcore/punk today, while the lyrics drenched in depression, isolation, frustration, and insanity keep you uncomfortably intrigued.  TURN ME OFF has everything you could want from a punk record in 2011 and then some.  DEEP SLEEP have outdone themselves once again, delivering their best and most unique sounding record to date.  CLICK HERE TO ORDER

GRAVE044: BRAIN F≠ "SO DIM" 7"
North Carolina’s BRAIN F≠ bring you their second single;  “SO DIM” b/w “SYMPTOM SET” is a double A-sided banger with all the overdriven/overloaded guitar fury of TEENGENERATE or ZERO BOYS and the angry female-fronted charm you love from so many DANGERHOUSE & early L.A. singles. Massive rhythm section a la AVENGERS and NERVOUS EATERS, hook-filled & danceable, the hardest of core. Hostile, angry fun - the perfect follow up to their debut 7" on Static Shock (UK). CLICK HERE TO ORDER

GRAVE047: GOVERNMENT WARNING "NO MODERATION" LP
GOVERNMENT WARNING's debut LP is finally back in print!  Originally released on FERAL WARD in 2006, NO MODERATION rips through ten blistering tracks of no frills early 80's hardcore; taking the speed and ferocity of JERRY'S KIDS, FU's and KORO and combining it with hook-laden so-cal punk sensibilities of ADOLESCENTS or AGENT ORANGE.  NO MODERATION is held by many to be GOVERNMENT WARNING'S defining record, and it's available to the masses once again. CLICK HERE TO ORDER

GRAVE046: COKE BUST "DEGRADATION" 7"
Following up their LP on Six Weeks Records, DC's COKE BUST have unleashed a monster of a new EP; easily their best and most crushing record to date.  DEGRADATION is a blistering, noisy, mind blowing,full-throttle hardcore assault influenced by the masters like Heresy, Ripcord, Infest, and Larm.  Tearing through six songs in five minutes, this EP will pummel you down to the ground then leave you on your knees begging for more.  Recorded by Kevin at Developing Nations Studios and mastered by Smok (Post Regiment fame).  CLICK HERE TO ORDER

GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS WEBSTORE / DISTRO

As you may have noticed, I'm trying to get better about adding new distro titles more frequently to the online store so please keep checking for new additions.  I will probably do a webstore update email every couple of weeks, but my plan is to add stuff into the webstore as soon as I get it. I also get a continuous supply of restocks in, so hopefully if I sell out of a record you were looking for, it's only temporary.

In addition to GRAVE MISTAKE releases, the webstore has a ton of distributed releases from labels like DERANGED, NO WAY, FERAL WARD, SORRY STATE, ROB'S HOUSE, DOUCHEMASTER, PAINKILLER, REACT!, SING SING, LENGUA ARMADA, DISCHORD, FRONTIER, TO LIVE A LIE, TANKCRIMES, VINYL RITES, COWABUNGA, KATORGA WORKS, RESIDUE, and many more killer labels!  I also try to stay as stocked up as possible on new demos, tapes, and zines so if you are into that sort of thing, head on over and see what I've got!

******************************************************************************
WHOLESALE / STORES AND DISTROS

If you are looking to carry Grave Mistake releases for your store, distro, online store, etc … please feel free to contact me at gravemistakerecords@gmail.com for info on ordering wholesale direct.  You can also purchase Grave Mistake releases wholesale from the following distributors: EBULLITION, REVHQ, NO IDEA, DEATHWISH DIRECT, and select titles from DISCHORD DIRECT and STICKFIGURE.

LABEL TRADES

If you are a label interested in trading, please feel free to email me with your trade / release list (with DESCRIPTIONS please). I try to trade releases when I can, so drop me a line and hopefully we can work something out.

******************************************************************************
UP NEXT:

The BAD ADVICE 7" will be out before hell freezes over, I promise. Also this summer expect the NIGHT BIRDS LP, a BRAIN F≠ LP, THE THUMBS "ALL LESSER DEVILS SESSIONS" LP, and maybe even the 86 MENTALITY "GOIN' NOWHERE FAST" 12" … plus who knows what other new stuff might pop up over the next few months!

Thanks to everyone who has supported GRAVE MISTAKE over the years, especially in 2011 - either by ordering Grave Mistake releases or other distro records in the webstore, picking up GM releases at your local shop or from your favorite distro, carrying them in your store or distro, writing reviews, or just being supportive of and having good things to say about records we put out or the bands we work with.  It's been one of the busiest years the label has seen (as well as one of the most productive), and I couldn't have done it without everyone's support … so thank you!

That's all for now … check out the new releases and keep your eyes peeled for more updates soon!

WEBSTORE UPDATE 4.15.11! New NIGHT BIRDS, SHIRKS, AT, VICTIMS, more!

GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS
WEBSTORE UPDATE 4.15.11

TWO NEW GRAVE MISTAKE RELEASES AND NEW DISTRO STUFF!

This might be a first - a webstore update two consecutive weeks in a row! I'm trying my hardest to make the updates a little bit more frequent, hopefully I won't get to the point where I'm being annoying. This update is short and sweet, but there are some records in this update that I'm really excited about.

First off, while they aren't technically out yet (you'll get the "official" announcement next week), there are two brand new GRAVE MISTAKE releases available for order in the webstore.  They are THE SHIRKS "Cry Cry Cry" 7" (GRAVE045) and the NIGHT BIRDS "Fresh Kills Vol. 1" CD (GRAVE048).  The Shirks 7" is the fourth from this DC band … you can check out the description below and see if that sparks your interest, but this is definitely one of my favorite 7"s of the year.  I've got 100 copies on RED VINYL for the collector scum, so pick up a slab and check it out for yourself!

The Night Birds CD is a collection of the bands three 7" singles and demo, 15 songs in all … I'll be selling the CD for $7 for the rest of the month, I also have a deal going which will get you both the Fresh Kills CD and a copy of the S/T 7" for $10. Pretty good, huh?  NIGHT BIRDS are easily my favorite band going these days, so if you haven't checked them out yet then hopefully this release will be a great excuse for you to do so.

And of course, in case you've missed these, it's been a pretty busy year so far here at GMHQ and the following 2011 releases are still fresh so check em out if you haven't already:

GRAVE042: DEEP SLEEP "TURN ME OFF" LP/CD - there is still WHITE VINYL in the webstore
GRAVE044: BRAIN F≠ "SO DIM" 7" - first press came and went, second press available now
GRAVE046: COKE BUST "DEGRADATION" 7" - still some WHITE VINYL in the webstore as well
GRAVE047: GOVERNMENT WARNING "NO MODERATION" LP - repress of GW's 2006 debut, still some BLUE VINYL left!

The Shirks and Night Birds will be "officially" out next week … and we are still planning to have the BAD ADVICE 7" out in early May!

Stores, Distros, and Labels looking for wholesale or trade, please feel free to email me at gravemistakerecords@gmail.com.  GRAVE MISTAKE releases can also be purchased wholesale from EBULLITION, REVHQ, NO IDEA, DISCHORD DIRECT, and more! I also love to deal direct with stores and distros of any size, domestic and international, so please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to carry any of these releases!

Ok, onto the new stuff in the webstore …

www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog

Not too much new stuff, but some quality releases and a TON of much needed restocking going on in this update.  First off, I've got FIVE brand new releases from the one and only TANKCRIMES!  We've got a repress of the very awesome ANNIHILATION TIME "II" LP, first 500 are the "Valu Pak" which includes a bonus copy of the COSMIC UNCONSCIOUS" 7".  In addition to that modern classic available once again, we have some killer new releases from VICTIMS, KICKING SPIT, ANS, RAMMING SPEED, and KICKER! Picked up the newest SING SING reissues including the PANIC LP and two 7" singles from BLITZZ; got the brand new LP from Atlanta's PREDATOR; and the newest TOXIC POP release, and LP from Richmond, VA's SUNDIALS … definitely recommended if you are into the other bands on the TOXIC POP roster (Dead Mechanical, Sick Sick Birds, etc).

I put a TON of demos and tapes in the webstore … there are tapes from DRY SPELL (advance tape of their upcoming LP on Vinyl Conflict Records), SHOPPERS, TIGER TAIL (awesome new band from RVA), COKE BUST/DEVOUR/STRIPMINES (LIVE TAPE), STAB (Killer UKHC!), WASTED TIME (Discography Tape!), PHIBES, METH MOUNTAIN, PUPPY MILL, and a bunch more! I also added a few new zines as well as the newest issue of MAXIMUMROCKNROLL.

Finally, a TON of restocks from DERANGED, ROB'S HOUSE, DOUCHEMASTER, PAINKILLER, SORRY STATE, REACT!, FASHIONABLE IDIOTS, and MORE.  Stocked up once again on releases from DAVILA 666, GG KING, WAX MUSEUMS, HEX DISPENSERS, NOMOS, WHITE LUNG, NO CLASS, MARVELOUS DARLINGS, PREDATOR, FAILURES, IRON AGE, BUKKAKE BOYS, INSTANGD, and a ton more … I also picked up a few more copies of the incredible BOSTON STRANGLER "OUTCAST" DEMO, so grab that one before it disappears again!

That's all for now, thanks a lot for reading and for your continued support! 2011 has been an awesome year for GRAVE MISTAKE so far and I have all of you to thank for it!

NEW RELEASES FOR 4/15/11:

THE SHIRKS "CRY CRY CRY" 7" (GRAVE MISTAKE)

NIGHT BIRDS "FRESH KILLS VOL. 1" CD (GRAVE MISTAKE)

PREDATOR "S/T" LP (DOUCHEMASTER)
Our new years resolution in 2011 was to refrain from using the words “pop” or “catchy.” We’re sticking to our guns on this release at least as this LP is a punk behemoth. If you remember the Frantic, you know that Mike and Brannon don’t pick up instruments without asking themselves what Rick Agnew would do. This record is short and deliberate, but you can definitely pick up tinges of post punk too. The Adolescents worship continues, but you get the idea they may be secretly digging Warsaw. Comes with a download, fool.

ANNIHILATION TIME "II (VALU PAK)" LP (TANKCRIMES)
ANNIHILATION TIME (2001-2009) found the missing link in creating their over the top sound, combining snotty 80's hardcore with vicious 70's proto-punk and rock 'n roll. "II" (2005) is their defining album, now available again on vinyl in a gatefold jacket. First re-press of 500 pieces on blue vinyl includes bonus 7" (Cosmic Unconscioussness).

ANS / RAMMING SPEED - SPLIT 12" (TANKCRIMES)
A.N.S. continue to explore into the realms of skate rock, crossover, Suicidal Tendencies, and My War side-B. RAMMING SPEED are channeling the early Earache grind catalog and freshening it up with some d-beat action and serious whammy attack duel lead thrash metal guitars.

KICKING SPIT "PSYCHROCKBULLSHIT" LP (TANKCRIMES)
KICKING SPIT is an American rock band influenced by alternative and classic rock n’ roll combining elements of hardcore, punk, and noise rock; melodic guitar solos, droning vocals, feedback, extreme volume, and the loud-quiet dynamic. It's not exactly pop, it's not exactly punk rock. The guitar work draws heavily from a hardcore past, as do the bass lines, with their alternating heavily distorted, fast chords and pulverizing lows, and the drumming, full of quick monster fills and relentless pacing. These songs are really catchy and definitely have an early ‘90s feel to them that’s sure to grab any fans of that era’s college rock / alternative sound.

VICTIMS "A DISSIDENT" LP (TANKCRIMES)
The latest album from VICTIMS, recorded by Linus Wiklund with assistance from Nicko (of Entombed). What a rager! When the first chords of opener "Theft" interrupt the album's haunting intro, it's apparent that the years under their belt have only allowed VICTIMS to become even more charged. For nearly half an hour, A Dissident rages full bore from one punk/hardcore anthem to the next with heavy hooks, a mean D-beat, and flawless examples of the classic hardcore/metal crossover power that they are known for. VICTIMS' unrelenting ferocity, unforgettable choruses, and Swedish quest for perfection has pushed the blueprint of their influences (Discharge, etc.) to a new contemporary level.

PANIC "13" LP (SING SING)
Sing Sing are proud to announce the reissue of this Dutch masterpiece of punk rock from Amsterdam's Panic! Their debut release from '78 simply titled '13' is a powerful album of perfectly constructed, attitude-riddled punk numbers from start to finish. Nevermind the Sex Pistols references on the album cover, Panic aren't getting their sounds from Rotten & Co. but with songs like "He Can Come" and "13" we're sure they picked up a thing or two about vulgarity from those chaps. Panic's sound, however, is uniquely successful and no doubt plays a part in the albums reputation amongst collectors.  PANIC formed in 1977 as a follow up to the short lived band “Big Peter and the Terrible Garage” (see poster on album cover). In 1978 PANIC’s LP 13 was released by two labels; first by Universe (red vinyl) and then by Ariola (black vinyl). The reissue comes in a gatefold jacket with liner notes by Peter Penthouse, unseen band photos and your own personal copy of the 'Big Peter' poster.

SUNDIALS "NEVER SETTLE" LP (TOXIC POP)
Richmond, VA's Sundials offer up their first full-length and we couldn't be more excited to bring this to you via Toxic Pop Records. "Never Settle" is 12 toe-tappin' tunes of witty and intelligent indie/pop/punk, with plenty of nods and winks for the bookworms out there. Comparisons can be made to 90s alt/rock greats like Buffalo Tom and Afghan Whigs or more modern groups like the Weakerthans, Cheap Girls, and Spraynard.
Comes with coupon for free digital download.

THE NEW HOPE - CLEVELAND PUNK COMPILATION 2LP (SMOG VEIL)
Back when hardcore was king, every major scene had a defining compilation and Cleveland was no exception. The New Hope comp was the first release ever on Tom Dark’s New Hope Records. A single LP affair originally released in 1983, The New Hope included debut performances from The Guns, The Dark, No Parole, Offbeats, Agitated, Zero Defex, Starvation Army, Spike In Vain, Outerwear, and PPG.  Smog Veil has licensed the release from Tom and worked closely with members of the original bands to compile up an entire LP of extras recorded back in the day. New liner notes were written by both Tom Dark and Tom Miller.  Strictly limited to 500 copies on crazy mixed color vinyl, the release also includes a free download code with even more songs that couldn’t fit onto the double LP. High recycled content packaging. This won’t last!  “On THE NEW HOPE, there’s plenty to dig out. 11 bands delivering 30 songs, not one to be missed, if you ask me. THE GUNS two tracks sound like an unreleased pre-Rollins Black Flag demo tape which, as you can guess, is not exactly a bad thing.” –Good Bad Music For Bad Bad Times blog

BOBBY UBANGI "INSIDE THE MIND OF BOBBY UBANGI" LP (ROB'S HOUSE)
Review: atlanta's champion craftsman of the three-chord garage sing-a-longs goes by the name of bobby ubangi and this record is a rare trip inside the same mind that brought you the lids and the gaye blades. recorded on 4 track, the most humblest of DIY methods, the tracks range from lo fi rockers to sappy garage tear jerkers but with guest appearances by old king cole younger (black lips), jared swilley (black lips), king khan, gentleman jesse, and many others 'inside the mind of' is anything but simple. the LPs 12 track pack a punch and attest to the wonders an able song writer can do with just three simple chords!

RVIVR "S/T" LP (RUMBLETOWN)
Awesome personal-as-political Olympia punk, ex-Latterman/Shorebirds. From the cover of Razorcake to punk house basements across the world, RVIVR cover a lot of ground while still being active members of the Olympia community. Their music avoids a lot of pop punk traps by having a good deal of old fashioned rock n' roll in their sound and an obvious knowledge of music history. An incredibly solid, long-awaited, full length.

HELLKONTROLL "WANKER WAR" 10" (VINYL RITES)
13 minutes of intense, violent and uncompromising noise punk. Art by Evan of Horrid Cross/Divisions. 300 Copies.

BLITZZ "GO NOW" 7" (SING SING)
All members of the Blitzz could frequently be seen playing at jam sessions in the 70s Amstedam rock-scene before they decided to join forces. When Mick Ronson (David Bowie's Spiders from Mars) heard them play at a venue in the Amsterdam Red Light District he immediately fell for the compact sound of the band. This memorable evening led to the recording of 'So Free' in a London recording studio soon afterwards.  The first single from The Blitzz was released by EMI in the UK and on the Continent in September 1978. 'So Free' went up the charts in several European countries in the months to follow. In December of the same year their second single 'Go Now' was recorded at the renowned Pebble Beach Studio in Brighton and released in the beginning of 1979. After three years of successful touring the band decided to split up to pursue personal goals.

BLITZZ "SO FREE" 7" (SING SING)

GAMES "DON'T LOOK FOR HER" 7" (ROB'S HOUSE)
Review: Games are made up of ex members of Busy Signals and Gentlemen Jesse but to call them a powerpop band would be missing the point. These guys are mining sounds that predate that stuff by a good 5-10 years. Yea, its the kinda stuff that would later influence 'powerpop' (Greg Shaw recognized this early on when he reissued Rockin' Horse on his Voxx label) but there are no skinny ties and Rickenbackers. Instead, Games are tackling maturer themes with a slightly darker approach to pop. You'll also notice a few glam undertones as Games' seem to be genuinely interested in exploring all 'pop' can offer rather than repackaging / remarketing any one style. Rob's House is pleased to release Games' debut single.

KICKER "INNIT" 7" (TANKCRIMES)
KICKER is punk rock from Oakland, California featuring frontman Pete “The Roadie” and other old guys. Pete has been a punk since it's inception, working as a roadie for bands for the past 30 years including Subhumans and Amebix. This is his first band and he's on vocals, backed by current and ex-members of Neurosis, Dystopia, and Filth! Includes screen printed jackets on heavy recycled chip board with black vinyl and sticker - limited to 400 pieces.

DOPAMINES "SOAP AND LAMPSHADES" 7" (COLD FEET)
Picking up right where their debut LP left off, Ohio's Dopamines offer up six brand new songs! This time around, everything's a little faster, a little bleaker, and contains at least 30% more anxiety, but without losing any of their signature Midwestern pop punk hooks. It's impossible to listen to this EP only once in a sitting, it demands at least two or three every time.

TALBOT ADAMS "JACK AND JESSE" 7" (DOUCHEMASTER)
In case you've forgotten already, Talbot was the front man for The Black and Whites. With the birth of his twin boys, Talbot had to keep the noise down a bit and wrote some quieter stuff. Super sweet and frankly touching stuff from former wild man turned dad. He does it Douche Master style with four songs all under two minutes. Packed full of Talbot's patented male oooohhhs. 500 pressed.

HOUSE BOAT "PROCESSING COMPLAINTS" 7" (TRAFFIC STREET)
After releasing one of 2009's best full-lengths, the band featuring Grath and Ace of The Steinways, Mikey Erg, and Zack Off-With-Their-Dear Landlord's-Rivetheads is back! On their new EP, House Boat does what they do best five times over. You want novelty? Innovation? Vicissitude?!? You're outta luck. Processing Complaints is smart-alecky, self-deprecating pop punk in five quick bursts. Catchy and to the point.

WASTED TIME - DISCOGRAPHY TAPE
Malaysian tape pressing of the entire WASTED TIME catalog. Includes both 7"s, the FUTILITY LP, and the demo/No BS track. Killer USHC … all on one convenient tape!!!  Not many in the US, grab it for your boombox at the beach this summer!

COKE BUST / DEVOUR / STRIPMINES - LIVE TAPE
Crushing live set from 5/6/2010 @ GSS2 in Raleigh from Raleigh's own Sic Senstation, Stripmines, Devour and DC's own Coke Bust. Well over an hour of music here. Released by all the bands and myself. All tapes come on yellow shells, pro-pressed, and #'ed out of 400 ever.

TIGER TAIL - 2011 DEMO TAPE
New band from RICHMOND, VA! "The opening track of the demo, “Intro” is entirely instrumental, and the longest song of whole EP by at least a minute. Your first impression is that of the recent resurgence in early 90’s emo revival (Look Mexico, CSTVT, etc). The whole track I was debating as to when the vocals were going to kick in; were they going to be super gruff male vocals ala Polar Bear Club, or cutesy girl vocals ala Lemuria? Much to my delight, “Intro” evolves perfectly into the upbeat and nostalgic “Best Damn Summer” – a track overflowing with a long for days past and teenage relationships. Despite my initial gut feeling, the vocals were neither gruff nor cutesy, rather they were more like Jawbreaker or Joyce Manor than anything else. The hauntingly empty repetition of the line, “it was the best damn summer of my teenage years” evokes the pessimistic perspective of Paul Baribeau with the guitar hooks and power of early Polar Bear Club.  Needless to say, this 5-song, 13 minute EP is extremely powerful, especially considering it is just a demo tape. Tiger Tail might just be the most important demo to listen to in 2011. I wouldn’t be surprised if 6131, Tiny Engines, or even No Idea jumped on these guys for a debut EP. - the1stfive.com

STAB - DEMO 2011 TAPE
This is savage mutiny spat out by four diasporic menaces as they pull at the fabric of the drug/knife infested, politically incestuous, big brother Babylon that is London, (y)UK 2011. Fractured minds produce the sounds of a rabid mongrel rattling the bars of man's self-imposed prison whilst hacking at the tomb of 80s UKHC…I've seen comparisons to RIPCORD and NO COMMENT.  Tape comes in a black shell with printed label and transparent stamped insert in a hand linocut printed mailer box (seriously, this thing is top notch!).

CONGA FURY / I'M DIET - SPLIT DEMO CDR
3 songs of ballistic, ear-drum busting noise from Conga Fury.  9 songs of happiness and joy from I’m Diet. 300 made, mini-CDr in DIY as fuck packaging.

DRY SPELL - S/T TAPE
Some of the VA commonwealth's greatest gentlemen, this lp displays DRY SPELL's most outstanding efforts yet. Whether your a fan of late 70's Punk, or 80's HC you'll dig what their going for. 10 Songs here, some which are on previous recordings, but never sounding this good. You can't really pinpoint their sound, but you can hear elements of Feel the Darkness era Poison Idea, The Slower parts of Jerry's Kids- Is this My World, and Maybe some late 70's Australian Punk? Who knows? You be the judge. Limited to 200 copies.  On VINYL CONFLICT RECORDS, This is the bands upcoming LP on cassette format. This is to give the people a chance to hear the album while it's in production.

LAKE FOREST - DEMO TAPE
Shoegaze solo project by Trevor Clement of WHITE GUILT. Lo-fi, mellow "indie" (I hate that term) with distorted yet melodic guitar.  Only ten copies were made earlier this year, but here's a legitimate press. Limited to 100 pro-quality, hand crafted cassettes.

SHOPPERS - DEMO TAPE
Legit repress of the band's tour tape from back in September. Limited to 200, pro made cassettes featuring four new song about acquaintance rape and hard feelings. No deviation from the first Drugged Conscience cassette, fuzzed out, female fronted noisy punk with heavy nods to 90's indy ala SONIC YOUTH and DINOSAUR JR.

METH MOUNTAIN - DISCOGRAPHY TAPE
This tape features 18-tracks from this short lived Charlotte, NC, band. The tracks span from their demo tape, "Drugs Rule" (Statuestory) put out in early 2009, to their cdep, "Gentrifi-cat" (Self Aware), to their final official release, their 7", "Monotony"

ORAL FIXATIONS - AUDIO ZINE TAPE
"Two hours of harrowing and eclectic stories recorded over a couple years and many state lines. Our curator/editor is pretty removed from the punk scene at this point, he is a little busy presenting at economics conferences in Malaysia and being a renaissance man, but there is still a sense of grime and underground throughout the stories. It's obvious that some of the people telling them are also in bands (Loser Life, Coke Bust, etc.) so it's not totally random that we put this out, but I love the darkness in this tape that reflects well on some of the music Vinyl Rites releases." -tolivealie.com

OUT CROWD - DEMO 2011
"I’m here to testify – I was pleasantly surprised. My first reaction is it sounded somewhat like vintage Ray Cappo snarl fronting a more oi!-leaning YOT. The intro comes on like Blitz, while opener “Blue Bloods” navigates vintage NYHC territory, as does the 51 second “What Are Friends For.”  The last cut rumbles on with a more pointed oi!-ish purpose and its message “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired” morphs into the closing statement “just stay positive, it’s the best way.  The entirety of the thing is under 4:00 minutes, so I don’t have much to go on, as well as no lyrics, but I likes what I likes and this is definitely hanging out in my rest stop (the bathhouses of the 90s.) I am duly impressed. Out Crowd could very soon be a band people are talking about." - LEYTONBUZZARDS.WORDPRESS.COM

PHIBES - DEMO 2011
PHIBES is a new punk band from NJ with the same assholes who brought you Wormeaters, Bloodtype and Rip It Up. Don't expect it to sound like those bands, this is heavily influenced by early 80's California punk. Fans of bands like Adolescents, Germs, Battalion of Saints, TSOL and the Nardcore bands won't be disappointed. The songs are melodic, but pack a hard punch to the face.  Limited to 250 tapes with full color covers, screened cases, great recording and shrink-wrapped. The whole package looks as good as it sounds. (5 songs)

PUPPY MILL DEMO TAPE
"Demo tape from this new Boston band featuring a number of ex-members of and recorded by Ryan from Blank Stare / Social Circkle at Side Two Studios. This is some strong, garagey punk with really powerful female vocals... the vocals themselves remind me a lot of Nuclear Family, but the music is more dirty, mid-paced garage, sort of reminding me of Nirvana's Bleach LP in places, but with a garage bent as well. Awesome stuff and I'm sure we'll be hearing more from this band soon." - sorrystaterecords.com

PUBLIC SUICIDE "AGORAPHOBIC" TAPE
Seven songs of awesome, hardcore-inflected oi! from this new Bay Area, California band who I believe features members of Valoids. This has moments of total Blitz worship, though fed through a strong filter of raw US hardcore and a touch of Screeching Weasel-inspired pop punk... the combination is enough to keep this aggressive as shit while still catchy and memorable. Cool stuff.

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #336 - MAY 2011
It’s in! Maximum Rocknroll #336, the May 2011 issue, has hit the stands and it is not to be missed! We have interviews with powerful Japanese hardcore ragers KRIEGSHÖG, and Steve Ignorant explains his motivation for his controversial recent solo tour playing CRASS songs. TEARGAS from Australia give us some insight about their imagery and the drive to make their style of hardcore, TANTRUM delves into what it is to be a punk in Japan and the motives behind playing Italian style thrashcore, and we talk to London’s disjointed, aggro post-punkers HYGIENE. We have the SHOPPERS from NY discussing their politically tinged, melodic pop punk; punk author and publisher Chris Walter keeps it gritty; old schoolers ADRENALIN OD; and ’80s style hardcore band SPASTIC PANTHERS from Canada. In “Crass Commercialism” our writers discuss the seemingly paradoxical nature of Steve Ignorant’s tour and the message of Crass, and we have a great Hungarian scene report covering “Defekt Punks.” All of this plus a massive amount of record reviews, news, and columns!

WHEN WE'RE YOUNG, WE'RE INVINCIBLE - ISSUE #7 ZINE
Brand new issue of this Australian fanzine featuring interviews with KROMOSOM, TOTAL CONTROL, and PUKEOID. Also includes some record reviews and editorials. A great look at the current Australian punk and hardcore scene. A4 size, 12 pages.

SUBJECT - ISSUE #1 ZINE
Debut effort from this Buffalo, NY zine. Includes interviews with SHITTY LIMITS, BRAIN F, local winos BROWN SUGAR, and several record reviews. The interviews are definitely the highlight here - well thought out questions receive some great/some painfully stupid but all worthwhile answers. While the layout is extremely basic, there is plenty of quality dialogue to appease any punk/hc fan. Screen-printed cardstock covers too! Half size, 24 pages.

SEVEN INCHES TO FREEDOM - ISSUE #9 ZINE
Newest issue of this consistently great Florida zine. Includes interviews with NEON BLUD and RESURRECTIONISTS as well as a history of Sound Idea store/mailorder written by the man himself, Bob Suren. Also included is a piece on "punks aging gracefully" and the usual features you've come to expect from SITF (columns, my first record stories, reviews). This zine has always delivered quality content and layout and comes highly recommended. Half size, 46 pages

ZERO MENTALITY - ISSUE #5 ZINE
Cool half sized zine from the PA area … features an interview with Philadelphia's LEATHER, plus pretty cool top ten of 2010 recaps and some reviews.

WEBSTORE / LABEL UPDATE 4.08.11

GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS / MAILORDER
UPDATE APRIL 8, 2011

Hello! It's April already … 2011 is flying by. Lot's of stuff happening over here this year, but I'll try and keep the update as brief as can be. Once again, I've spent the past month accumulating a ton of new records and zines for the webstore, so there is a lot of killer new stuff just added for your enjoyment. I'll get to the new distro stuff shortly, but first …

THREE NEW GRAVE MISTAKE RELEASES OUT NOW!!!

That's right, the DEEP SLEEP "Turn Me Off" LP/CD, COKE BUST "Degradation" 7", and GOVERNMENT WARNING "No Moderation" LP are finally out and available for order… I did a small announcement about these last month, but these are out and getting into circulation and the feedback has been pretty awesome so far!  I still have COLORED VINYL for all three of these releases (WHITE vinyl for both Deep Sleep (300) and Coke Bust (200), BLUE vinyl for the GW (100)) in the webstore so definitely grab copies while you can because they are selling at a steady rate … your favorite stores and distros should be getting regular copies as the month goes on (if they haven't already).  I'm extremely thrilled with how all of these releases came out, and I think you will be to so do yourself a favor and pick em all up!

The BRAIN F≠ "So Dim" 7" is also available again … first press came and went but we have 500 more copies ready to roll.  The band is currently working on putting the final touches on an LP which, if all goes according to plan, this will be a GRAVE MISTAKE / SORRY STATE collaboration so I'm extra excited to be working with Daniel on a release, as his label has always been one of my favorites. More info as that develops!

Finally, some new releases are right around the corner; THE SHIRKS "Cry Cry Cry" 7" will hopefully be available for order next week, as well as the NIGHT BIRDS "Fresh Kills Vol. 1" CD collection which contains all three of their 7" eps and their demo, 15 songs total! Oh and don't think we've forgotten … the BAD ADVICE "Do Not Resuscitate" 7" will STILL see the light of day, hoping to have that ready to go later this month!  Then this summer will also bring us the debut LP from NIGHT BIRDS, "The Other Side of Darkness."  The band is currently putting the final touches on the mixing now, so I hope to get that into production by the middle of April.  I got a little sneak peak of the record, and it's already my favorite record of the year, hands down.

As always, distros, stores, and labels please feel free to get in touch for wholesale or trade info!

Ok, onto the distro stuff …
