WEBSTORE UPDATE! New IMPALERS, DOUBLE NEGATIVE, DEAF MUTATIONS, and MORE!

Hello all ... happy August.  Roughly one month left of summer vacation, might as well make the most of it!  Unfortunately I'll be spending the rest of my summer indoors packing up records, but we can't all be as lucky.  Since I just did a full label update last week, let's just cut right to the good stuff ...

GRAVE MISTAKE WEBSTORE:

NEW STUFF for 8/1/11:
http://www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog/products_new.php

A ton of great new records in this week's update; the debut 7" from Texas' THE IMPALERS (first press limited to 400, so grab it while you can because this record is a rager); I've got a bunch of copies of the DEAF MUTATIONS 7", the newest installment of the NAKED RAYGUN 7" singles series; not one, but TWO brand new 7" singles from Raleigh's own DOUBLE NEGATIVE - along with three other brand new releases on SORRY STATE: the DARK AGES, WHATEVER BRAINS, and MAKABERT FYND/GLOM DA! LPS; a handful of great new releases from 540 RECORDS including 7"s from NERVESKADE, YOUNG IDENTITIES, JUST URBAIN, SLOWMOTIONS, and a 12" from ISTERISMO.

A bunch of new/semi-new stuff from THIRD PARTY RECORDS, including the PUNX DON'T DRINK 7" comp (w/ COKE BUST), two POISON PLANET 7"s, SORRY EXCUSE 7", as well as some much needed restocks from BLANK STARE, SICK FIX, and BLACK SS. A TON of stuff from A-389 records including new PULLING TEETH, WEEKEND NACHOS, GEHENNA, XIBALBA, and much more; European pressings of both PUNCH LPs, a whole slew of killer punk and hardcore of reissues from the likes of CRUCIFIX (DEHUMANIZATION - CLASSIC!), EXTREME NOISE TERROR, ANTI-SYSTEM, HARDCORE 83' and YALTA HI LIFE COMPS, TERVEET KADET, CHRISTIAN DEATH reissue, restocks on both DISCHARGE LPs on Havoc, DAYGLO ABORTIONS LPs, and a bunch more.

Thanks for reading and hopefully you'll find something worth checking out! Until next time ...

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE 8/1/11:

IMPALERS "S/T" 7" (TODO DESTRUIDO)
Five new track of blown out D-Beat HC from Austin, TX.   Impalers play in the vein of late Anti Cimex(Scandanavian Jawbreaker era) HC mixed with hints of Discharge, Motorhead and Celtic Frost.  Limited to 400 copies on textured paper/pocket sleeve.

DEAF MUTATIONS "CRASH THE CLUBS" 7" (STATIC SHOCK)
After almost two years in the making, the DEAF MUATIONS 7" is finally now available to order. DEAF MUTATIONS is the brainchild of Dave Brown (also of Career Suicide) and they play violent, hardcore punk that wouldn't sound out of place on the Master Tape comp. The recordings on this 7" were originally released in late 2008 as a very limited cassette that didn't really make it out of Toronto. So needless to say, we're pretty thrilled to put this out and hopefully help this recording get the attention it deserves. At the request of the band, this is a one-time pressing of 500 copies.

DOUBLE NEGATIVE "HARDCORE CONFUSION VOL 1" 7" (SORRY STATE)
Double Negative return with the first volume of their follow-up to the epic Daydreamnation LP, and they haven't slowed down one step. Continuing the progression displayed between their first and second LPs, the two songs on this 7" are harder, faster, and weirder than anything they've done before. "Writhe," in particular, is probably the best song they've written so far. Includes color vinyl, deluxe jackets with spot-gloss printing and digital download.

DOUBLE NEGATIVE "HARDCORE CONFUSION VOL 2" 7" (SORRY STATE)
The second in Double Negative's four-volume Hardcore Confusion 7" series finds the band blasting out two more certified riff monsters. For those of you who who like their mid-paced stompers like "Endless Disappointment" and "Stop Growing," these two songs might be your new favorites. Includes color vinyl, deluxe jackets with spot-gloss printing and digital download.

NERVESKADE "NOISE POLLUTION" 7" (540)
Originally released as a cassette, what we have here is a "covers only" 7" from Portland's raw noize heroes NERVESKADE doing their take on tracks by DISORDER, DISCHARGE, JERRY'S KIDS, and SSD. You know you need this.

YOUNG IDENTITIES "NEW TRENDS" 7" (540)
Another killer Australian punk reissue from 540, this time it's Young Identities' classic 2nd EP. This is absolutely brilliant, classic Aussie punk... if you like the Victims and other Murder Punk this is an absolute necessity. "The Young Identities EP's are standouts among the Savage/Shake releases, especially the New Trends EP. The band's line-up was mixed in with other band Brisbane bands who were, in turn, part of other groups. In other words, a history of the Young Identities is necessarily a history of a few other bands. The history below overlaps and repeats some of what can be found on the Just Urbain page albeit from a different perspective. I can certainly be counted among the "overseas overseers" who became interested in the early Brisbane punk scene several years ago. Without further ado, another history from the younger, snottier contingent of the no-scene Brisbane scene... " -breakmyface.com

JUST URBAIN "EVERYBODY LOVES" 7" (540)
540 Records hits us with another spot-on reissue of an Australian punk classic, this time it's a 1978 EP from Just Urbain. Originally released in a paltry edition of 200 copies, this is a suitable replacement for the original that you will never own. A little more bleak and depressing than some of their more rocked-out countrymen, these Just Urbain songs will definitely hit all the buttons of those of you who obsess after weird, quirky, first-generation KBD punk.

SLOWMOTIONS, THE "OPERATION ANAGRAM" 7" (540)
This new 7" is an absolute scorcher. The a-side in particular is a fucking bruiser... HARD, mid-paced punk with some really weird keyboards in the background and tough Japanese hardcore vocals. The b-side is more in line with their older, more pop-inflected material, but with some cool keyboards and lead guitar adding a bit of texture.

PUNX DONT DRINK - V/A - COMPILATION 7" (THIRD PARTY)
Finally back in print! This semi-notorious straight edge hardcore compilation features two songs each from the bands COKE BUST, BOILING OVER, POISON PLANET, and COLD SHOULDER.

ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE "ST" 7" (THIRD PARTY)
From the ashes of Expired Youth comes the next chapter of Chicago straight edge... One Foot In The Grave. Chad, Shariq and Ryan are picking up where Expired Youth left off in helping to show that straight edge hardcore is still alive and well in the windy city, with a style similar to Youth Of Today and Floorpunch.

POISON PLANET "UNDERMINE" 7" (THIRD PARTY)
Poison Planet's second 7" continues where their first left off, with the Chicago, IL band offering up five tracks of politically motivated hardcore punk with a sound that nods to other recent Midwestern favorites like The Repos or Necros.

POISON PLANET "BLEED FOR ME" 7" (THIRD PARTY)
For their European tour earlier this summer, Third x Party pressed a limited edition Dead Kennedys tribute 7" that contains Bleed for Me and Nazi Punks Fuck Off. All 250 copies are on mixed vinyl and the cover/lyric sheet has all of the art and essays you should expect.

SORRY EXCUSE "LISTEN WITH PREJUDICE" 7" (THIRD PARTY)
Eight blistering tracks with the occasional yxc inspired breakdown from this KC, MO band. They just put out a new 7" on Lifeline a few months ago. My release just got reviewed in MRR/SF&L and got good reviews. Fold over cover with complete lyrics and the most X's you've ever seen on a cover - for better or for worse.

BAD BANANA "CRY ABOUT IT" 7" (PUZZLE PIECE)
With Cry About It, Bad Banana tame the frequencies of their demo without compromising any of its urgency. The Crutchfield sisters-- joined here by Kyle from Big Soda-- continue their '90s-inspired, stop-and-go pop punk. Songs of drunken friendship, whining, and so forth. For fans of Tiger Trap and answering-machine indie pop. Artwork by Jason Roy. Covers letterpressed at the Bow & Arrow Press in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This is a one-time pressing of 500 copies.

FOUR EYES "TOWARDS THE END OF COSMIC LONLINESS" 7" (PUZZLE PIECE)
Out of Boston, Massachusetts (Somerville to be exact), Four Eyes play emotionally raw indie rock in the vein of Dinosaur Jr. with a dose of twinkle in their riffage. This band got its start in the summer of 2009 as Nick, Dan, and Will obsessed over the second Teenage Cool Kids LP, though they didn't play their first show until November of that year. Four Eyes are approaching life as a seasoned band with Towards the End of Cosmic Loneliness, their second 7". Featuring members of Daniel Striped Tiger and Tussin.

NAKED RAYGUN "SINGLES SERIES VOL 3" 7" (RIOT FEST)
Chicago punk legends Naked Raygun release their third record in a 7íí single series, which collectively will spawn their first recorded full length in 20 years. The influential melodic punk rock band were a Chicago institution in the ë80s, releasing a handful of classic records before the band splintered in the early ë90s. A reunion show at 2006ís Riot Fest in Chicago, spurred on by drummer Eric Spicer, sold out a 4,000-seat venue and reignited the band for a reunion tour. Since then the band have talked about recording new material, but didnít get into the studio until this year.

WITHDRAWAL "FAITH, FLESH, & BLOOD" 7" (A389)
On the heels of their awesome 'Unknown Misery' 7", Withdrawal return with three brand new tracks (digital download has a fourth bonus track) of apocalyptic metal-core from these Canadian disciples of the Holy Terror Church Of Final Judgement! Fans of Ringworm, Catharsis and All Out War take note. Comes with a digital download card!!!

PENETRATION PANTHERS "PERPETUAL 80'S" 7" (A389)
DC Grave (Gehenna) and Shane BastardDemon (Devil/Gravehill) have a new band that is full on raw early 80's punk that sounds like a cross between early Black Flag and The Stooges. This 3 song ep is only a taste of what's to come with the band's upcoming full length. Limited to 500 copies ever.

WEEKEND NACHOS "BLACK EARTH" 7" (A389)
Brand new 7" by Chicago's crushing WEEKEND NACHOS. Features 4 songs, 2 of which are from their upcoming LP on Relapse/Deep 6 and 2 of which will be exclusive to this 7". Comes with digital download code.

PICK YOUR SIDE "SURVIVAL PRAYER" 7" (A389)
Pick Your Side is a new studio project band featuring Jeff Beckman of Haymaker/Left For Dead on vocals and Johnny Ibay of Fuck The Facts on guitar. Ten songs of lo-fi thrash/hardcore that will appeal to fans of both bands. 7" includes digital download.

GEHENNA "LAND OF SODOM II" 7"/CD (A389)
Originally released on an obscure label out of Canada (Hit The Deck Recs), only a small few copies of Gehenna's 'Land Of Sodom' 7" ever made it into anyone's hands. We're thrilled to announce that the 7" is finally available with a few improvements to the original recordings, re-visted as 'Land Of Sodom II'. Also included is a CD with the LOSII tracks are the previously unavailable on CD 'Upon The Gravehill' 12" tracks. Comes in a deluxe 7"/CD gatefold package with a 14"x14" poster insert. As per the band's request, this release does not include a digital download code. Please use a record player.

ANTI-SYSTEM "DEFENCE OF THE REALM EP" 7" (ANTISOCIETY)
Outstanding official re issue of this killer ep from Antisystem, a bit more metal than their first LP, this is still totally crushing mid/late 80's UK HC that rides the line between anarcho punk and crust core.

HURT UNIT "DEMO" 7"
Demo 7" from this fast hardcore band from Australia. Five songs and an intro, fast and pissed with a definite late 80's hardcore vibe ala Youth of Today.

ISTERISMO "TOKYO CRUSTIES" LP (540)
"New 12" from this Italian-loving Japanese band, released for their appearance at this year's Chaos in Tejas fest. I believe this is a discography-to-date type of deal, and it's certainly a heaping helping of powerful, Italian-influenced Japanese noise punk. I can't help but note that the Japanese are so much better at this style than anyone else... the energy level on this thing is just off the charts. Fucking intense." -sorrystaterecords.com

PUNCH "PUSH PULL" LP (ASSULT)
The Bay Area mosh-bringer unit known as PUNCH delivers their second LP - chock full of 1000mph pissedness with hammers-of-justice mosh-trocious breakdowns that can get even the the longest of the long-hairs starting the mower. A great combination of good people, intelligent and insightful lyrics, and fucking full-on pissed and fast hardcore. One of the best around. Gatefold cover and colored vinyl.

PUNCH "S/T" LP (ASSULT)
Busting out an LP's worth of thrashcore, San Francisco, CA's Punch rip through a high-speed attack with female vocals that varies in speed from blast beats to mosh parts with some youth crew influences thrown in, all with social and political lyrics. Every song is carried out with an intensity that is lacking in a lot of modern hardcore. The vocals are screamed with total rage, to the backing of a band that sound like they're playing their instruments as hard and fast as they possible can. If you like your hardcore really fast and hard, make sure to pick this up.

DARK AGES "CAN AMERICA SURVIVE" LP (SORRY STATE)
After a couple of great but under the radar 7"s, Kansas City's Dark Ages return with their first full-length and it is a hardcore monster. Eschewing the recent vogue for raw recordings, Dark Ages have nailed a crystal clear, precise sound in which all of the fascinating little nuances hit you with full force. While the pedal is always to the floor, it's the weird little parts--quirky touches that remind one of Die Kreuzen's first LP or H¸sker D¸ circa Everything Falls Apart--that really separate this band from the pack. I can think of no other band that captures the angry, alienated, and isolated sound of the midwest better than Dark Ages. Deluxe packaging, including heavyweight, tip-on style sleeves, a 24"x26" poster, and digital download.

WHATEVER BRAINS "ST" LP (SORRY STATE)
Without a doubt the most sonically adventurous release thus far on Sorry State, North Carolina's Whatever Brains use their previous 4 7"s as a launching pad into completely uncharted musical waters. While the foundation is still spazzy, weird garage punk, this time around Whatever Brains incorporate electronic beats, tons of synth, some quieter parts, and a few truly epic compositions. This album is so expansive that it probably has something for everyone, but fans of Total Control, early Pavement, prime-era Fall, and catchy garage punk in the Marked Men mold will probably be the ones in the front row banging their fists along. The packaging on this one is also particularly ambitious, including a full-color gatefold jacket, obi strip, 14-page newsprint booklet, and a download card with the LP and remastered versions of all four of the band's previous EPs.

MAKABERT FYND/GLOM DA! "SPLIT" LP (SORRY STATE)
Here's something a little different for Sorry State: a split 7" pairing two of the heaviest, most raging current crusty hardcore bands from Sweden. Makabert Fynd (who have released earlier records on Yellow Dog and Flat Black) play raw, straightforward hardcore in the tradition of old Swedish bands like Asocial and Avskum, but with huge, modern production. Of course these guys also boast Poffen of Totalit‰r as one of their vocalists, and fans of that band won't be disappointed. As for Glˆm Da!, they go for the throat in a similar fashion, but are perhaps even wilder and more unhinged. Whether you like the fast and raw old Swedish stuff or more metal-influenced k‰ng like Skitsystem and Disfear, this one will knock you on your ass. Includes gatefold jacket and digital download

ANTI-SYSTEM "NO LAUGHING MATTER" LP (ANTI-SOCIETY)
An official reissue of this very powerful and classic British anarcho-punk album from 1984, this collection of thundering, no-compromise tracks comes with a printed board innersleeve and a fat, 44-page booklet of interviews, lyrics, graphics, gig posters, band and scene bios, an Anti-System band family tree, tons of photos, clippings from vintage fanzines, lots of political, anti-authority and animal liberation info and much more, printed on heavy gloss stock.

YALTA HI LIFE - V/A - COMPILATION LP (POWER IT UP)
Finally re-pressed after many years of absence, this comp features some of the most raging and important bands from the Finnish hardcore scene of the '80s, including what many think to be the best Terveet Kadet songs, plus tracks from Kaaos, Varaus, Aparat and more.

PROPAGANDA HARDCORE '83 - V/A - COMP. LP (HOHNIE)
This comp. was released in 1983 by PROPAGANA RECORDS and contains the following crackers: KANSAN UUTISET, RIISTETYT, JAKKE & LATERI, ƒPƒRƒT, RATTUS, TAMPERE SS, PROTESTI, ALAMAAILMA, KUOLEMA, BASTARDS, HIC SYSTEEMI, FUCKING FINLAND, DESTRUCKTIONS, MARIONETTI, M.A.P., SEKUNDA, TAKUU & VARAUS. Total of 35 tracks of all-time classic Finnish Hardcore to the max.

TERVEET KADET "AARETON PROPAGANDA" LP (HOHNIE)
Discography of early material by this legendary Finnish 80's hardcore band. Features the "message" ep, Aareton Joulou ep, "Black God" LP and Halloween LP. All of it solid gold Finnish Hardcore.

EXTREME NOISE TERROR "HOLOCAUST IN YOUR HEAD" LP (FAREWELL)
Limited to 500 copies limited official re-release of the "Holocaust In Your Head" LP, which originaly came out in 1988 at "Head Erruption". It was re-recorded in 1991 and released at japanese label "Toys Factory". 1999 the LP based on the 1991 recordings was re-released by Distortion. On this re-release you get the original 1988 recordings remastered with a more raw and brutal sound. Includes the classics "Murder", "Bullshit Propaganda", "Another Nail In The Coffin", "Deceived"... actually the whole record is just a classic!!!
Import from Germany.

CRUCIFIX "DEHUMANIZATION" LP (CORPUS CHRISTI)
Finally back in print, one of the top ten US hardcore records of the 80's. Crucifix perfectly mix the early 80's hardcore sound with the drive and intensity of UK anarcho bands like Discharge and Varukers. On top of this they used the visual style of Crass or Discharge with the shocking images of war and man's inhumanity to man in a fold out poster sleeve.  The raw intensity of this record puts it up there with Discharge for sure. Hopefully Southern will be re issuing the rest of their back catalog too as titles like Antisect, Crass and Rudimentary Peni have been strangely out of print on vinyl for several years.

GEZA X "YOU GODDAM KIDS" LP (BACCHAUS)
Geza X has been an important fixture on the California punk/new wave scene for many years as a producer/writer/engineer for countless artists, from Josie Cotton to the Dead Kennedys. As an artist, however, he doesnít resemble most of those heís worked with at all: You Goddamn Kids! is delightful, off-the-wall, adventurous, complex and humorous. The studio pro uses sound effects and treated vocals to enhance his music, much of which might well appeal to fans of, say, the Residents. ñ Charles P. Lamey ñ Trouser Press This classic post Masque-era album is the unique work of former Deadbeats, Mommymen member and producer GEZA X with quite the cast of original Los Angeles punk scene luminaries as contributing musicians including Brendan Mullen, Paul Roessler, D.J. Bonebrake, Josie Cotton, Don Bolles and others! Utilizing the unique ìGezatoneî guitar with a screechy vocal style and warped sense of humor, this album delivers early ë80s classics such as ìWe Need More Powerî and ìIsotope Soapî as heard on the ìLet Them Eat Jellybeansî and ìRodney On The Roqî compilations.

CHRISTIAN DEATH "ONLY THEATER OF PAIN 25TH ANV." LP (FRONTIER)
The founding fathers of American goth-rock, Christian Death released their debut, Only Theatre of Pain, on Frontier Records in March 1982, and that landmark album has had an enormous influence on goth, death-rock, dark-wave, metal and even industrial music scenes all over the world, shaping the approach of more bands than can be counted.  Led by vocalist and founder Rozz Williams, the Christian Death of Only Theatre of Pain included guitarist Rikk Agnew, fresh out of The Adolescents, bassist James McGearty, drummer George Belanger and backing vocals from Superheroines leader (and Rozz's future wife), Eva O as well as performance artist Ron Athey.  It was this line-up, with its dirgy, effects-laden guitar riffs and ambient horror-soundtrack synths, that crystalized the ominous post-punk sound that has established this album as the ultimate archetype of goth sensibility.  Genre touchstones include "Romeo's Distress," "Spiritual Cramp" and "Mysterium Iniquitatis."  This reissue features Rozz Williams's original hand-drawn art and calligraphy, and an additional period photo by Ed Colver, all set against a parchment-like background. Frontier has digitally remastered the audio for both the LP and CD, the latter containing the Deathwish EP as a bonus.

PULLING TEETH "FUNERARY" LP (A389)
Pulling Teeth's fourth album is their most definitive work by far. Their magnum opus, if you will. The two years that followed the release of Paranoid Delusions | Paradise Illusions was a time of personal turmoil for members of the band as they lost too many loved ones to the hands of the reaper, and Funerary is the culmination of the emotions dealt with during that period. This album finds the band revisiting the vitriolic rage expressed so vividly on Martyr Immortal as well as expanding on some of the more expressive and melancholic ideas found on their last album. While the lyrics touch on themes of our social character, a demand for truth, respect, and honesty, and reason to hold on to the last shreds of hope for a better world, the music ranges from pummeling thrash- and death- influenced metal to moody, doomy, dirgey soundscapes, all the while holding true to the spirit and energy of hardcore. This is Pulling Teeth at their finest.

RINGWORM "THE PROMISE" LP (A389)
One of the most important and influential records to come out of 90's metalcore let alone Cleveland hardcore. This is Ringworm at their most primative. Raw guitar tones, sloppy yet perfect drumming, and the unmistakable throat of the Human Furnace. Features the original artwork from 1993. This record is a must have!!! CD version available on Deathwish Inc

XIBALBA "ST" LP (A389)
The long awaited vinyl debut of California's XIBALBA. This LP complies all the tracks from their 'Madre Mia' CD as well as the songs from the 'Earthquake' Compilation all remasterd with new artwork by Linas Garsys. Crushing downtuned 90's style metalcore loaded with moshparts ala Disembodied meets Sepultura.

INTEGRITY "TO DIE FOR" 10" (A389)
The triumphant return of Integrity, the "To Die For" recording was a true reclamation of the throne for the band. Produced and engineered by Ben Schigel (Ringworm, Mushroomhead), the collection of eight blood boiling songs served as a musical progression, all the while embracing the approach of their influential past.

HUMANOIDS "ARE BORN" LP (ROCK BOTTOM)
"It seems only natural that a band with a name like the Humanoids would be capable of acting as a time machine back to the days when pop punk was best served in sweaty basements with a side of fast-paced and light hearted aggression. The Humanoids Are Dead is an 8 song EP filled with classic pop-punk melody and bursts of hardcore-style energy that is sure to surprise anyone who grew up with now veteran bands like the Descendents or Dag Nasty and inspire those who may not have been so lucky. It wont be hard for this young St. Louis five-piece to prove themselves among other Midwestern gems (and obvious influences) like Dillinger Four. The only flaw in this 14 minutes of songs worth adding to your soundtrack of growing up is that they leave the listening wanting more." -http://ihaterocknroll.blogspot.com

DISCHARGE "WAR IS HELL/DEMO '78" LP (UNREST)
Tracks 1-13 are studio and live songs with Rat (Varukers) on vocals. Tracks 14, 15 were taken from the 'Beginning of the End' 7". Also included are four unreleased tracks from the their first 1978 demo, recorded prior to Cal joining them.

KIDNAPPERS "NEON SIGNS" LP (RIP OFF)
Rip Off Records is here to kick off the New Year with a bang with THE KIDNAPPERS from Germany, and their incredible record, Neon Signs. THE KIDNAPPERS are one of hat country's best live bands, and with super catchy songs, they easily make new fans whenever they are in the house. Power pop with balls is the best way to describe THE KIDNAPPERS. Their debut on Alien Snatch Records a few years ago made believers, and the great news is that this album is better. That's right tards, Rip Off gets the better album. You see there are a whole heap of dog shit bands attempting to play power pop today, but only a few get it right. THE KIDNAPPERS are one of them. Listen to "Street Where I Live", or the incredible "I Hate Your Band". These songs borrow all the great elements from the legendary power pop bands, like THE PLIMSOULS, THE BEAT and THE RECORDS to name a few, but THE KIDNAPPERS do it without sounding like a generic copy. They sound like THE KIDNAPPERS. So remember the golden rule: If it's on Rip Off it's going to rule. Right sparky?

TENEMENT "NAPALM DREAM" CD (HANG UP)
After a slew of incredible 7"s and splits, we finally see the highly anticipated and long overdue (but well worth it) debut full length from Wisconsin's TENEMENT. This is easily making my top 10 list for the year (and I'm sure plenty of other people feel the same way), so pick it up and see what the hype is about! Hailing from Appleton, WI, Tenement play punk rock similar to the more melodic side of SST spliced with the early sound of the Twin Cities. A beautiful mix of Husker Du’s ferocity, Dinosaur Jr.’s guitar soloing and distortion, and The Replacements youthful energy, Tenement stand out in a modern-era by focusing on great and original songwriting that made these other aforementioned bands so special.

GOOD THROB DEMO 2011 TAPE
Demo 2011' culls nine brilliantly snotty songs of homegrown UK Punk at it's best. Good Throb spins the daily grind into bursts of impish scum-fuckery with songs about customer service, partying, admin work and being an animal. Lead singer Ellie delivers vocals with aggro yelps and snarls apace with rubbery bass, pulverizing drums and kinetic, catchy guitar arrangements. One of the most exciting UK Punk bands around and well worth your time!! Featuring members of SHITTY LIMITS.

That's right, we finally got around to getting the Grave Mistake Bandcamp page (http://gravemistakerecords.bandcamp.com/) up and running! The label really hasn't had had a steady spot for streaming music for a while, so this time around we decided to go all out. There are currently 30 Grave Mistake releases streaming in their entirety ...  all recent releases from the past few years, along with a good chunk of the back catalog. It will also be a place to get some sneak peaks of upcoming releases (see below for tracks from the new NIGHT BIRDS and BRAIN F≠ LPs)!  Many thanks to GM shitworker / Employee of the Month Sykes for putting the page together!

The main purpose for the page was obviously for people to check out new bands or listen to their favorites in a convenient place, but of course I wouldn't object if you wanted to purchase some of the mp3s or even pick up the actual records in the webstore :)

Keep your eyes peeled from both labels on more updates on the LP.

III. NIGHT BIRDS Second Track from LP posted / European Tour Dates

NIGHT BIRDS have also just posted another new track from their upcoming "The Other Side of Darkness" LP.  They posted the track "Landfill Land" back in June, and today we bring you none other than the Title Track of the new LP. So check it out! You can peep the track on the Grave Mistake Bandcamp or the Night Birds Bandcamp.  Our friends at Brooklyn Vegan (www.brooklynvegan.com) have also been kind enough to post the track on their site as well!

We've had a few minor delays with this LP, but we are looking to have the record out early September. We will also most likely be announcing preorder info mid-to-late August, so keep your eyes peeled for that as well!!!

In other NIGHT BIRDS news, they will be playing BEST FRIENDS DAY here in good ol' Richmond, VA on Saturday, August 20th! It will be great to have the boys back in town, they will be playing at 10am in the Fine Foods parking lot as people board the busses to Hadad's Lake. While this sounds a bit odd, trust me it should be a blast; only the weak sleep during the weekend of BFD, the rest of us party animals will be up 24/7 ... so 10am / 10pm ... it's all the same.

Finally, they've also posted the first round of dates / info for their EUROPEAN TOUR which will be happening this September. They were kind enough to let yours truly tag along for the tour, so I hope to see some old and new friends along the way! IV. GRAVE MISTAKE / NO WAY RECORDS WHOLESALE

If you are a store or distro on my email list, you'll probably be getting another email from me shortly ... but as always, all Grave Mistake releases are available wholesale direct from me.  I am also carrying most NO WAY RECORDS titles wholesale as well! Brandon, Lauren, and I figured it would be best to combine forces on the wholesale front, so if you do a distro or store and would like wholesale info, please get in touch and I'll send over the full list! If all goes well, I hope to start carrying a few more labels wholesale as the year goes on, but more news on that later on!

V. GRAVE MISTAKE PROMOS!

If you write for a zine, blog, website, or do a radio show, podcast, etc etc and are legitimately interested in checking out upcoming Grave Mistake releases for possible review or play, please do not hesitate to drop me a line! We'll be sending out promos for the NIGHT BIRDS record VERY soon ... I've already had a ton of great replies and met a bunch of awesome new people on the promo / review / radio front this year so please get in touch if you'd like to be put on my list. Also, any places I've already sent reviews to in the past, please don't hesitate to contact me if you are interested in checking out the new releases! I usually try and hit everyone I've worked with previously, but a friendly reminder never hurts!

VI. WASTED TIME R.I.P

While I hate to sort of end this email update on a low note, I figure most of you wouldn't even get this far anyways! Sadly, WASTED TIME has decided to pack it up and call it a day.  It's sort of weird ending a band like this - I've been with the band pretty much from the beginning between releasing records, touring, and eventually joining - while we all loved doing the band, sadly life  has made it more difficult than ever to keep the band even remotely active. Between work (jobs, businesses, record labels, etc) and location of members (Richmond, VA Beach, Raleigh) ... we've decided that, rather than dragging along at a snails pace, it would be best to just cash it in now and end on a good note. We are hoping to have one hell of a last show here in Richmond this fall so keep your eyes peeled for that info.  I'd also like to extend a personal thanks to all members of WASTED TIME past and present, and everyone around the world that helped and supported the band throughout the years - it's appreciated more than you know.

VII. UPCOMING RELEASES

Yup, the BAD ADVICE 7", THE THUMBS "All Lesser Devils Session" LP, and the 86 MENTALITY "Goin Nowhere Fast" LP are all still on deck! Unfortunately they've been pushed back just a little bit due to this upcoming batch of releases (NIGHT BIRDS and BRAIN F≠) ... but I hope to get cracking on ALL of them before the summer ends. I also have a brand new 7" in the works from a killer new band out of, well ... sort of all over the place. Featuring members from the UK, SWEDEN, and good ol' WASHINGTON DC, the band is SECTARIAN VIOLENCE and they rule. Burly as hell 80's hardcore (as you have probably guessed, one of our favorite types of HC here at GMHQ) ... I was lucky enough to hear some rough mixes of the EP and damn it sounded good ... more news on this later but you heard it here first!

Well, if you made it this far, thanks a lot for reading! As always, please keep your eyes peeled for updates on the new releases and do not hesitate to get in touch for anything. Thank you to everyone for your support in 2011, this has been one of the busiest years the label has seen in a while and I couldn't have done it without you all!

WEBSTORE UDPATE! New WASTE MANAGEMENT, TENEMENT, IMPOSTERS, NIGHT FEVER, and More!

GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS / MAILORDER
WEBSTORE UPDATE 7.18.11

Happy Monday everyone ... figured I'd get the week started off right with a brand new webstore update! There will be a label update coming this week as well with new release info, some tour info, and other news, so please keep an eye out for that over the next few days. For today though, I'll just stick to the latest happenings in the GM distro / webstore ...

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE 7/18/11:
http://www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog/products_new.php

Ok, for this update, there isn't TOO much stuff to make things overwhelming, but I'm probably most excited about this one because I have brand new releases from two of my favorite current bands.  First is the "Power Abuse" 7" from Boston's WASTE MANAGEMENT.  Released as a tape last year, these new songs have finally made their way to vinyl thanks to the fine folks at Painkiller Records.  If you've been paying attention, PKR has put out some incredible new stuff this summer (SCAPEGOAT, SOUL SWALLOWER, BRUTAL SUPREMACY COMP, etc) but I think the WM 7" was the new release of theirs I was looking forward to the most!  Hardcore at it's finest ... you need this EP.

Second is the long awaited debut LP from Wisconsin's TENEMENT, "Napalm Dream."  TENEMENT have been on constant rotation here at GMHQ (and everywhere else I go) for the past year or so with their various 7" EP and split 7" tracks ... so it's great to finally have a long player from these guys.  I don't think I can say enough good stuff about them both recorded and live, and it's good to see that the release of this LP is finally turning some much deserved attention their way.  As far as the record goes, it's everything I was hoping for from a full length from them, and more.  This might be my favorite LP of the year so far, so hopefully that's a good enough recommendation for you ... peep the description or some songs on their bandcamp page if that sparks your interest (http://tenement.bandcamp.com/).

Sorry for gushing, just a couple of releases I've been looking forward to for a while, so it's great to finally have them both available ... do yourself a favor and check them out!  And of course, they aren't the only new releases worth picking up in this update ... I've got copies of the brand new 7"s from CA's THE IMPOSTERS ("Down By the Bay" 7") and Denmark's NIGHT FEVER ("Transparent" 7").  I also have some copies of the NIGHT FEVER "New Blood" full length on tape - US vinyl press coming soon on Tankcrimes / No Way ... speaking of tapes I also scored a few copies of the OBSESSOR tape (awesome project from Brandon of GW / Direct Control / No Way Rex fame), and some copies of the FILE 13 demo (ripping new hc punk band from here in Richmond).  A bunch more 7"s from NIGHTBRINGER, EXPIRE, DARK LION, some more DANGERHOUSE Fanclub 7"s (ALLEY CATS and DILS) along with a restock on the AVENGERS, NECROS, and DICKS Fanclub 7"s.  Oh, and I restocked on the AUTHORIES "Soundtrack for Trouble" 7" ... that one is a must have.

New LPs from WICCANS, FOREIGN OBJECTS, CIVIL VICTIM, ORIGIN OF M, BRAT PACK; a reissue of the early 2000's classic TEAR IT UP "Nothing to Nothing" LP; a couple more releases from MANDIBLE RECORDS (in addition to the TENEMENT LP), including the NUDE BEACH and PINK HOUSES LPs; a bunch of new stuff from DUSTY MEDICAL RECORDS including new releases from DRUGS DRAGONS, MIDWEST BEAT, and more ... I also picked up a couple of copies of the new TITLE FIGHT and FOUNDATION LPs on B9, along with some of the NAILS "Unsilent Death" repress on Southern Lord.

Last but definitely not least, the brand new issue of ACCEPT THE DARKNESS fanzine (one of the best zines going today), newest issue of MAXIMUMROCKNROLL, and some copies of the latest issue of DOWN AND OUT zine out of AUSTRALIA.

As always, thanks for reading and for the continued support!

NEW RELEASES FOR 7/18/11:

TENEMENT "NAPALM DREAM" LP (MANDIBLE)

WASTE MANAGEMENT "POWER ABUSE" 7" (PAINKILLER)
Originally released as a demo tape in 2010, these 6 songs were frankly too good to not be released on vinyl, and play as perfect complement to WM's Get Your Mind Right 7". Six primitive HC offerings in the Ball of Destruction / No Policy style, wrapped up in killer cover art by drummer and artist extraordinaire Ken Fontaine.

NIGHT FEVER "TRANSPARENT" 7" (NO WAY)
Copenhagen, Denmarks "K Town Hardcore" creeps are back with a vengeance! 3 New tracks of snotty ferocious hardcore punk, Night Fever Style. If you like their "New Blood" LP, you'll definetly be into this. They haven't changed a bit, and that's a good thing! Combining elements of Classic Hardcore like RKL and POISON IDEA w/ some metallic elements ala Motorhead & Metallica with a bit of Danzig-ish vocals here and there. 3 songs here, the A side "Transparent" is a mid tempo crusher that will absolutely stomp you into the ground, then on the flipside bringing you back to life with 2 ripping hardcore tunes! Over before you know you know it, leaving you wanting to listen over and over, and over. One time pressing of 1000 copies.

IMPOSTERS, THE "DOWN BY THE BAY" 7" (HEADCOUNT)
Here it is in all its glory. Finally a new installment by Hermosa Beach's The Imposters. Following 2 awesome 7"s and an awesome LP, these dudes expand their noise into some new territories. 3 Brand New tracks that bring you a range of Surfy, poppy and dare I say Cow Punk? Take a step away from all your mysterious fast-core and crack open a coke or beer down by the bay. This record is limited to a strict 300 copies.

NIGHT FEVER "NEW BLOOD" TAPE (TANKCRIMES)
NIGHT FEVER from Copenhagen, Denmark (K-TOWN) are a sick hardcore band with killer catchy raging songs and amazing vocals. They have US shows coming up on the east coast so be sure to check them out.

OBSESSOR - DEMO TAPE (TANKCRIMES)
OBSESSOR is a new band metal from Richmond, VA influenced by English Dogs / Celtic Frost / Onslaught / Venom - dirty and punk. All instruments and vocals done in the studio by my long time close friend Brandon "The Obsessor" Ferrell whos strong pedigree includes Direct Control, Government Warning, Wasted Time, Municipal Waste, No Way Records and Vinyl Conflict Record Store (RVA).

ALLEY CATS "NOTHING MEANS NOTHING ANYMORE" 7" (FANCLUB)
Fanclub reissue of this classic DANGERHOUSE release.  "The Alley Cats from LA's South Bay put out this fantastic single on Dangerhouse, "Nothing Means Nothing Anymore" b/w "Give Me A Little Pain." Live, those songs killed. Everything this band did was just top notch, and I think they were loved by all - the Hollywood punk rockers, the South Bay kids, the Orange County kids... what was there not to like about band founders Randy Stodola and Dianne Chai?" - punkturns30.blogspot.com

DILS, THE "198 SECONDS OF..." 7" (FANCLUB)
Fanclub reissue of this classic DANGERHOUSE release. The Dils where some pranksters who one time when entering a club in LA went up to Rodney Bingenheimer(well known DJ at them time and responsible for popularising and promoting punk in the States) and lit his hair on fire. Well done! Besides that they played one of the most memorable and catchy punk rock that ever came out of the US in the 70′s. Their Clash influence is most evident in Mr. Big. The only thing is that this is better then The Clash. Their second 7inch released by the legendary Dangerhouse.

DARK LION "DEMO" 7" (VINYL RITES)
In the wake of the the newest middle east conflict in 2002, Dark Lion erupted in Pensacola, FL, a poor Navy town. Dark Lion's lyrics and live show were so full of contempt and violence, so full of the frantic energy that they felt at the time. With the war, siblings joining the army, people in jail all the time and the basic, deep hatred you feel when you are young as the backdrop, they wrote 6 songs of no-wave meets riot grrl punk, but I'm not sure they had any interest in genre. The demo went basically unheard, sold on cassette and CD-R on their one and only tour, despite being a completely uncompromising, original and dangerous punk recording. Few bands are as representative of a time in the way Dark Lion were, Born Against and Bikini Kill come to mind. Musically they are somewhere between Teenage Jesus and Nog Watt, but all their own. RIP Dark Lion, long live Dark Lion.

MIDWEST BEAT "S/T EP" 2x7" (DUSTY MEDICAL)
"Not a pop band in the sense of contemporary pop-punk or power pop, mind you. The Midwest Beat live in a chronologically distant world where precise song structures, jangling guitars and tight vocal harmonies ruled the day. Big Star, The Byrds, The Kinks and the Zombies are their regular touchstones, bands whose own careers were at their peak a decade or more before the foursome's members were born. Unless audiences show up harboring a similar jones for Alex Chilton, et al. - or younger fellow travelers like the considerably messier Black Lips - it can take a few songs before the deftness of their guitar pop and restrained psychedelia becomes apparent. But once their music hits you, you're apt to become a proselytizer for the cause." (Tom Laskin, The Isthmus)

NIGHTBRINGER "31ST AND MICHIGAN" 7" (DEER HEALER)
Motorcycle music for motorcycle people. The instrumentation is tuneful and driving, a steel pig snarling down the road with the engine open, burly hair cracking in the wind like a whip. The vocals weave and jab at the backbeat with the urgency and grace of a featherweight, but strike with all the guile and power of a thick-necked heavyweight thug. It's obvious that this band has spent a lot of time thinking about how to sound. If more bands were as thoughtful as Nightbringer, everything would just be better.

NIGHTBRINGER "S/T" 7" (HIGH ANXIETY)
Nightbringer is bastard hardcore. Taking equal parts from the holy trinity of Motorhead, 70s Detroit rock n roll, and Japanese hardcore, they land in similar hybrid territory as later Poison Idea - going back to the raw rebel rhythms that spawned biker gangs in the 50s but cranking it up with speed, distortion, and a samurai's obsession with finding life at the ever present edge of death. If punk started as youth culture, this is the sound of youths misspent in skinhead violence and skateboarding, Hawkwind-ish hallucinogens and of summers and winters in vans sleeping on amps. Carving out a niche in the wilderness to keep the fire alive into their mid 30s, this is mania focused by age and experience, never diminished. Ex Ruination, Earthmover, Life Set Struggle, and introducing Ian.

PLEXI 3 "CALCULATED ROMANCE" 7" (DUSTY MEDICAL)
Sadly, PLEXI 3 have broken everyone's heart for real this time, and are calling it quits. ADAM is heading West and RYAN is getting out from behind the drumkit and up front with WENDY, sharing guitar/vocals/bass duties in the new kickass band RAMMA LAMMA (with Joel from The Jet Set). For the last Plexi 3 show at the Dusty Medical Records 5th Anniversary Party, the label made up 100 more of their debut 7-inch from back in 2007, with some on peach, some on clear, and all with a new cover design by ADAM WIDENER.

EXPIRE "SUFFER THE CYCLE" 7" (SIX FEET UNDER)
“Suffer The Cycle” is the new 7" from Expire on Six Feet Under Records. Recorded at Young Brothers Studios with Taylor Young (Nails), Expire has put together 4 songs of straightforward, heavy-hitting hardcore. Members of Expire live in different parts of the midwest and the band seems to draw influences from the east and west coasts, finding a happy medium with heavy grooves reminiscent of the NYHC style and fast parts that are worthy of a good ‘ole California circle pit. If the best of both worlds sounds good to you, see Expire on tour, mark your calendars and get ready for “Suffer The Cycle.”

25 RIFLES "HISTORY OF FLAGS" 7" (SNAPPY LITTLE NUMBERS)
The new 25 Rifles E.P. is called "History Of Flags" and it's a scorcher.  4 tunes at 45 RPM ensures maximum listening efficiency.  Want to know more about the Rifles?  Well, they don’t preach the apocalypse. The world ended long before they were born. Instead, the three-piece group scavenges the ruins of culture, repurposing the buzz and howl of early Husker Du and Mission of Burma to suit the empty gestures of their futile rage.  25 Rifles subtracts the “power” from the power-trio. What’s left is dust. Oh, and this record.  Perks include color vinyl, a fold-over picture sleeve with lyrics and a download code

BURNT CROSS/CRESS "SPLIT" 7" (LOUD PUNK)
After 10 years of silence UK punk greats Cress are back with 3 new tracks of politcal punk they are known for, a fantastic comeback. Burnt Cross, the UKs leading anarcho punks are back with some of their best tracks yet.

BUNT CROSS "TOO MANY GRAVES" 7" (PUMPKIN)
Brand new EP by the best Anarcho band going in the UK right now, 4 brand new tracks including a cover of Rudimentary Peni's "blissful myth". For fans for Crass, Conflict and Active Minds.

EYES AND EARS/SNAKE MOUNTAIN - SPLIT 7" (SNAPPY LITTLE NUMBERS)
NEW. SNAPPY LITTLE NUMBERS. "We are proud to announce our first release, a split single 45 featuring Eyes & Ears and Snake Mountain. Both groups provide songs that pay homage to a couple of Denver institutions. Eyes & Ears' "I Buried My Heart Under Bar Bar (Then Burned It Down To The Ground)" is about, well, Bar Bar. Bar Bar is a classic dive that plays host to many killer shows and provides questionable allowances to patrons. What's not to like? Snake Mountain's "Defend Colfax" is in honor of the most famous street in the greater Denver metropolitan area. Why is it famous? Well, aside from it's vast array of car dealerships, restaurants and hookers, Colfax is lined with bars and clubs that provide many of the same attributes as Bar Bar. So now this blurb has come full circle. This 7" Single is on color vinyl and comes in one of our stylish company sleeves and includes a Download Code. Edition of 300 on random color vinyl"

HEAD ON ELECTRIC "GHOST HUNTERS" 7" (TERROR TRASH)
A brand new 7-inch from Milwaukee’s HEAD ON ELECTRIC. “Head On Electric draws from so many different elements, so many different sounds, so many different scenes and somehow manage to simultaneously sound like every band you loved in high school and grew out of and every band the more matured and learned you are into right now. You like garage rock? So do they. You like pop-punk? So do they. You like indie rock? So do they. They've got melody, they've got swagger, they've got character, but mostly importantly, they've got the fucking songs. Those utterly perfect, amazing fucking songs.” Handmade sleeves.

FILE13 "GENERATION LOST" DEMO TAPE
"Four locals playing a style of hardcore that's been lacking here to the best of my knowledge.  Taking cues from Boston and NYHC more than the 80's revival that Richmond has made its name with.  Six songs of straight forward go-for-the-throat HC... A band that excites me, because this is a sound that I've been dying to hear for the past couple of years here in Richmond, and someone's finally delivered it." - EXCITEMENT LEVEL ZERO ZINE

BIG EYES - DEMO TAPE (TANKCRIMES)
Sweet Pop / Rock / Punk from Brooklyn / New Brunswick, brilliant!  Featuring members of Cheeky, The Used Kids, Seasick, and ANS.

KICKED IN - DEMO TAPE
Potent hardcore from some young guns down in melbourne. Their first demo showing potential and aggression.

TEAR IT UP "NOTHING TO NOTHING" LP (SIX FEET UNDER)
Tear It Up's first and only proper full length album is seeing the light of day again after a 10 year hiatus. Originally released on Dead Alive Records in the glory days of 2001, "Nothing To Nothing" set the benchmark for early 00's DIY Hardcore. For a long time this has been one of our favorite albums here at SFU and we're really stoked to be bringing it back on vinyl again after all these years.

WICCANS "SKULLDUGGERY" LP (KATORGA WORKS)
We are proud to announce the Katorga Works release of the debut LP from Denton, TX's Wiccans, who play wild and inventive hardcore. Insanely melodic guitar lines are juxtaposed with tough and unique vocals over a driving, KBD-style punk sound. Wiccans manages to balance power and catchiness in one of the best hardcore LPs we've heard in awhile. Blows away not only their previous material, but most of their peers', as well. Be prepared to pick your jaws up off the floor. One of our best releases.

ORIGIN OF M "S/T" LP (BURAI CORE)
Burai Core presents the first Origin of M 12"!  With similar speed and power as bands like FORWARD but with their own Hiroshima hardcore style, Origin of M has Mr Guy ex GUDON on vocals and Maru ex ASPHALT on guitar.  Raging sound and insightful lyrics, all new art by the master illustrator Sugi.  Originally released on CD by Under The Surface in 2008 and long sold out, this 12" also includes their song from the "Demented Anthem Hardcore Assemblage" compilation.  Includes digital download code.

FOREIGN OBJECTS "NO SENSATION" LP (VINYL RITES)
Foreign Objects blast through eight songs of upbeat punk, somewhere between Dangerhouse, '77 pogo, riot grrl and early post-punk. They get compared to Wire and Bikini Kill a lot, I hear more Electric Deads and X. Members of AMPERE and LIBYANS.

CIVIL VICTIM "NO FALSE HOPE" LP (LOUD PUNK)
Germany's Civil Victim are back with a band new LP to follow up their fantastic "Mehr Krieg" EP in 2008.  With each release this band gets stronger and stronger and this LP is with out a doubt their best stuff yet! 12 new tracks of pissed off German hardcore that has a Swedish and USHC sound to it. if you like stuff like out cold, poison idea, wasted time you should check this out. Mastered at Enormous door studios by Jack Control.

BRAT PACK "STUPIDITY RETURNS" LP (DOOMTOWN)
Brat Pack hail from Holland, but their sound is more reminiscent of the sunny streets, beaches, skate parks and pools of early eighties California. Since 2006 they've recorded a demo, which was later re-released as a 7'' vinyl, and a full-length entitled "Hate The Neighbours". In support of "Hate The Neighbours", Brat Pack played all over Europe, including two Western European tours, a tour of the Balkans, a UK tour and, of course, a bunch of other shows.  Now, three years after the release of “Hate The Neighbours”, Brat Pack have crafted a whole lotta new songs and they'll unleash 'em via “Stupidity Returns”, their second full-length LP.  Influences vary from the aggressive sounds of RKL, SNFU, 7 Seconds and even some later era Poison Idea to a more melodic and gloomy approach of the Adolescents, D.I. and Agent Orange, played skilfully, but still really raw and pissed. Also, one song features the wicked Solomon of Night Fever fame on vocals. All in all, an energetic and melodic hardcore punk assault.

DRUGS DRAGONS "THE MILORGANIGHT" 12" (DUSTY MEDICAL)
Rock'n'roll is an elusive beast; only a small percentage of those who attempt to harness it can even come close. Rock isn't about selling out Madison Square Garden, it's about getting a room full of people to believe in what you're doing; to subscribe to your version of the gospel. The truly amazing thing about Milwaukee, WI's Drugs Dragons is how close they come to distilling the essence of "rock" into a recording. Live, they're intense and unpredictable. Sweat, blood, and beer appear in equal measure at their shows, and, like all good rock bands, volume is a necessary ingredient. Astoundingly, "The Milorganight EP" is easily the equal of their live performance, capturing the energy and vitriol of vocalist Puke Drugs' sweaty snarl, as well as guitarist Tony Sagger's chunky chording and the on-the-edge rhythm section of bassist Zorach Dragons and drummer Erroric Mildew. Drugs Dragons formed in spring 2009 from the remnants of Milwaukee's beloved Night Terrors. Although their stated influences range from early Alice Cooper, the Cramps and the Dead Boys to such modern icons as Clone Defects and the A-Frames, Drugs Dragons have forged their own path among the two million or so bands currently active. They're not interested in climbing the charts; they want to get in your face. And this record will do exactly that. Coming fresh off the release of their Dusty Medical Records' debut (following a pair of 7" releases on their own Terror Trash label) this EP is set to take the band to the next level, whatever that may be. Recorded by fellow Milwaukeean Josh Busnelli (who has also worked with The Midwest Beat and Sticks N Stones), "The Milorganight EP" will no doubt be the soundtrack to many a party, and many a nightmare, for years to come.

MIDWEST BEAT "GONE NOT LOST" LP (DUSTY MEDICAL)
The Midwest Beat have a modest approach: making good music. Jukebox-ready tunes that are mercilessly concise, relentlessly uptempo, and saturated in vocal harmonies. If anything, the average Midwest Beat song is overstuffed, a smidge too fast, too eager to please, too damn infectious. Memorable hooks that recall cool and classic 60s garage pop bounce (think Zombies), but are updated with the swagger and urgency of 70s power pop (think Paul Collins’ Beat). With a slight twang bend and a thin layer of fuzz draped over the vocals.  Their harmonies are delightful throwbacks to retro pop goodness, layered over the jangly twang of their guitars which are delicately laced with bits of psychedelia.  Heavy on harmonies but not detracting from cool, clear sounds. Faster and looser than their predecessors (but not careless and sloppy) with spot-on backing vocals.“Gone Not Lost” expands on the jangles, harmonies, and perky tempos that first endeared the band to local music geeks, but also channels the damn-near-innocent heart of ’60s soul singles. The guitar work is bright, and sometimes surfy, the drums are always straightforward. Somewhere underneath all that past-praising there is a serious band trying to make well-crafted songs.

PINK HOUSES "S/T" LP (MANDIBLE)
Pink Houses' self-titled, snarling full-length bears a pleasantly noisy, grumbling tilt that fans of the sound should dig.  Fuzzy, cracking amps and a murky plow on opener "A Shame" should instantly bring Nirvana to mind for plenty. But higher-pitched, off-kilter yelling and more deliberate, nimbler guitar work in "New Religion", as well as sardonic "oo"s backing, help the band establish more of their own identity and an almost pop-punk undercurrent. It's kinda catchy, too. See, the vocals sometimes have that nasally, John Darnielle-like quality, but then comes the more strained, snarling yells and shaggy guitars cutting in, like in "Wildflowers".  The short, aggressive "Fed Up" and Melvins-ish, sludgier, plodding intro to "Again at the End" shows some versatility, and when Side B kicks off with the less grungy but certainly energetic "New Blood", it's very cool and an interesting change for the band. Charred, ripshit playing continues through the rest of the tracks regardless of the grunge level, though, like the charged hooks in "To Be and Need" (a short questioning of how a person can be deemed "illegal").

PLEXI 3 "TIDES OF CHANGE" LP (BACHELOR)
This is the 1st LP release from Bachelor Records. PLEXI 3 deliever 13 songs (one cover by the EVERLY BROTHERS) full of '60s girl-group and mod-pop sounds flavoured with just the perfect pinch of garage-punk attitude were pressed on 500 black vinyls. Now it is your turn as music expert and scenester to buy this gem!

NAILS "UNSILENT DEATH" LP (SOUTHERN LORD)
"Unsilent Death" consists of 10 unrelenting and unapologetic songs with a sound not unlike the late '80s Earache Records catalog mixed with early power violence. Recorded during the cold winter of 2009 at Kurt Ballou's Godcity Recording Studio. Westbrook said: "It sounds like Entombed covering Napalm Death and Drop Dead." Now available again on 180 gram vinyl with a gatefold cover.

NUDE BEACH "S/T" LP (MANDIBLE)
"Nude Beach's self-titled LP provides a fun and enjoyable half-hour slab of power-pop and surf-touched punk to the tune of the kinetic energy and nostalgic setups of predecessors like the Exploding Hearts and Carbonas.  "No Change" busts the album out of its rusted gates with a lower-fi kick and raggedly sung vocals with riffy guitars and tambourine-laced percussion. The vibe is, "simply," a corrosively fun and uplifting one. "Boss Song" keeps the tempo up and running, though it's a little same-y. More Americana tones open the aptly titled "Ridin' Easy", and it's an early refresher to mix things up at least somewhat. "Burnin'" adds a tinge of country twang and reverb in the vocals to do the same, with jangly guitar melodies taking it out to a nice effect.Over on the B side, "Writhing in the Rain" kicks it off with a couple of raspy, rambled vocal lines that almost remind me of Elvis Costello in strange, quavery ways. They push it into "Beach Head" well, while "Hit by a Hurricane" is pulled back, played with a head-bobbing restraint and twinklier guitars. "The Mountain or the Moon" closes the record, and it's the longest song here—the vox are slurrier and the mood is a pinch more psychedelic." - PUNKNEWS.ORG

REDDMEN / EYES AND EARS - SPLIT LP (SNAPPY LITTLE NUMBERS)
Eyes & Ears grew from the mulch of the punk-soul orchestra Call Sign Cobra with a single purpose: to hurt you. The aptly named quartet fricassees the senses with a rock-fraught thunderbolt of sound and vision (or some sick corruption thereof). Inducing hallucinations of Hot Snakes in a back-alley knife fight with Nation Of Ulysses, Eyes & Ears gouges, pokes, and screams like a gang of adrenaline-injected sissies.

BLACKLISTED "THE BEAT GOES ON" LP (DEATHWISH)
"...The Beat Goes On" was recorded by acclaimed engineer Jim Seigel (Blood For Blood, Dropkick Murphys), who also recorded their "Dead Man's Hand" material. Comprised of 13 contemporary hardcore anthems, the album celebrates the triumph and underdog determination that defines Blacklisted. The album is now considered a classic by hardcore kids worldwide.

FOUNDATION "WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARS" LP (BRIDGE 9)
Atlanta, GA's straight edge hardcore stalwart, Foundation, has delivered one of the best and heaviest records of the year with their Bridge Nine debut, "When The Smoke Clears." Described as "...pure, unadulterated hardcore with vicious breakdowns and pummeling rhythms" (Decoy Music), "When The Smoke Clears" pushes the band to the top of Bridge Nine's hardcore heap - carrying the torch from alumni bands Champion and Have Heart. Recorded in December of 2010 at LedBelly Studios with producer Matt Washburn (Mastodon, Norma Jean), Foundation's debut full-length album is a must-have for any fan of hardcore, both past and present.

TITLE FIGHT "SHED" LP (SIDE ONE DUMMY)
After releasing a handful of EPs and 7"s as well as performing shows all over the world, Title Fight began attracting attention from fans and labels who were captivated by the way the band managed to put a modern spin on the melodic hardcore sound pioneered by acts like Gorilla Biscuits and Lifetime - and in 2010 the members of Title Fight dropped out of college in order to tour full-time with acts such as New Found Glory, Four Year Strong and H20. It was also around this time that the band entered the studio with Gorilla Biscuits/Quicksand guitarist Walter Schreifels who agreed to produce the band and promptly drove down to Northeastern Pennsylvania to help them prepare to record their highly anticipated full-length debut, "Shed."

XAXAXA "TANGO REVOLUCIONER" LP  (DOOMTOWN)
"Tango Revolucioner", XAXAXA's debut full-length, will become known as the second Doomtown release ever! XAXAXA hail from Skopje, Macedonia and feature 3 members of a group of post-punk enthusiasts known as Bernays Propaganda, as well as xFxPxOx, the legendary Macedonian hardcore punk thrashers.  XAXAXA's agenda is to explore the melodic side of the mid / late 80's Dischord roster, so don't be surprised if they remind you of bands like FUGAZI, RITES OF SPRING and even DAG NASTY. XAXAXA's tunes also have a moody HUSKER DU/WIPERS vibe, so it's safe to say that these guys aren't just another copycat band paying tribute to the Revolution Summer days of DC hardcore.

GASMASK TERROR "DISCOGRAPHY" CD (FLOWER OF CARNAGE)
The CD includes everything the bands have recorded so far from the ‘Ruins and then’ rehearsal demo in 2004 , their Self Titled E.P and LP in 2006 and 2007, ‘Architects of death’ 7” E.P in 2008 and their latest LP, Black Sun/Fake Gold in 2010. 41 complete tracks and this band throw some fierce d-beat punk in the vein of Totalitar and Discharge.

ACCEPT THE DARKNESS - VOL. 6 ZINE
Brand new issue of probably one of the most talked about zines as of late, and for very good reason.  This one includes interviews with Crimen De Estado and School Jerks, some longer writing on new NYC raw punk records (the Men, Hank Wood and the Hammerheads, Crazy Spirit, Dawn of Humans, Perdition), writing about fanzines, and a few pages of record reviews.  Full size, awesome cut and paste layout, quality writing. Get it (and all of the other issues too).

DOWN AND OUT - ISSUE #17 ZINE
Issue 17 of this under valued Tasmanian fanzine, featuring interviews with VILE GASH, ICE AGE, NIGHT SINS + reviews, show reviews, and more. It is interesting that some of the best zines coming out of Australia at the moment are being made by people for the most part totally removed from the hardcore punk scene. Great range of content and a solid offering at the alter of hardcore punk.

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #339 - AUGUST 2011
The August issue of MRR is here — issue #339 to be precise… This month we have interviews with Swedish hardcore originators HEADCLEANERS, Tomek Lipinski from Polish punk legends TILT and BRYGADA KRYZYS, and we’ve got Oakland garage veterans and cat ladies MIDNITE SNAXX. There’s two doses of grind with Minneapolis’s COKSKAR and Britain’s AFTERNOON GENTLEMEN. Plus we’ve got Canadian ragers GROWN UPS, New Orleans’ own pop-punkers SMALL BONES, and French hardcore from YOUTH AVOIDERS. There’s an extensive look at legendary record and tape label and early ’80s international punk and hardcore disseminator Xcentric Noise Records, and the second part of our look at the history of punk in communist-era Czechoslovakia. All of this plus the usual columnists you hate yourself for lovin’ and the most extensive review section in punk!

WEBSTORE UPDATE! New PAINKILLER releases, lots more!

GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS / MAILORDER
UPDATE 7.1.11

Hello all ... back with another great distro update for you. Some quick label news ... both the BRAIN F≠ "Sleep Rough" LP and NIGHT BIRDS "The Other Side of Darkness" LP/CD are currently at the plant, hoping to have both releases out before the summer ends! Also this month I hope to get started on both THE THUMBS "All Lesser Devils Session" 12" and the 86 MENTALITY "Goin' Nowhere Fast" 12" ... and who knows, we might finally see that BAD ADVICE 7" as well!

Both DEEP SLEEP and NIGHT BIRDS had great things to say about their respective tours, thanks to anyone who helped with shows, played, or attended! Expect some more tour dates announced shortly, as BRAIN F≠ are doing a week long east coast tour at the end of July, and NIGHT BIRDS will be heading to Europe in September. More info on both of those tours shortly so stay tuned.  On to the distro ...

GRAVE MISTAKE WEBSTORE: www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog

I did an update on 6/12 that went out via email only since a lot of the new listings sold out really fast ... I've included what's left in the full list below, definitely some great stuff still available (and I was able to restock a few items that sold out the first time). Here is what is brand new in the webstore for this week ...

A good haul of new releases this week, and a bunch of restocks as well. First of, I've got a bunch of new releases from Painkiller records including the SCAPEGOAT LP, SOUL SWALLOWER LP, BRUTAL SUPREMACY 2x7" comp (w/ HATRED SURGE, SCAPEGOAT, MIND ERASER, and IRON LUNG), and VACCINE 5" ... i'll also have the new WASTE MANAGEMENT 7"s shortly, they'll be put in the store as soon as they arrive but the rest of the PKR titles are here and ready to ship! I've got two new titles from REACT! (GET THE MOST and CLEARSIGHT), both releases from Baltimore's SACRED LOVE courtesy of YOUNGBLOOD RECORDS, a few copies of the VAASKA European 12" which contains BOTH of their 12"s on one slab; not one, but two CHINESE TELEPHONES LPs and a few more new titles on IT'S ALIVE, a ton of records from EVIL WEEVIL including the DRY FEET 7", BIG EYES Demo 7", and much more from that label. I also snagged a few copies of the PREGNANT LP, which has been on repeat here at GMHQ since it came in.

A little change of pace from what's usually stocked in the GM webstore but I grabbed an assortment of psyche and garage reissues from 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS, CHOCOLATE WATCH BAND, ELECTRIC PRUNES, GOLDEN DAWN, and STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK.  I also grabbed a couple of DICK DALE reissues as well.  I've also been getting a few new fanclub / bootlegs in stock but unfortunately not too many of each since they are a bit more expensive than normal records.  This update I have some cool releases from DISCHARGE, NEGAZIONE, SOA, and NECROS - While I hate to advertise stuff that will potentially sell out quickly, since I only have a couple of each of these, chances are these will be sold out by the time you read this so my apologies in advance if I am out of something you are looking for in the update. I try to restock as much as possible, so just keep checking back!  Finally, some new zines to check out, including the second and third issues of CHUNKS out of Australia so if you are looking for some quality core reading material, grab both of those!

That's all for now, thanks for reading!
