Here is what INVISIBLE ORANGES had to say about "Confined":

"Coke Bust’s Confined, the newest 12″ Taser from Washington, D.C.’s fastcore ambassadors, starts with a squee. This isn’t deserving of a headline in itself. Plenty of punk, sludge, noise rock, and more have used amp feedback as either sonic wall art or a thought-linking, conversational “uhm.” Coke Bust, though, use the squee like a remote control, channel surfing through punk’s past blast by blast.

Squee. Infest. Squee. Slapshot. Squee. Government Issue. Squee. It clicks until it acclimates and then it clicks again. This is by design. “We wanted to write a lot of songs and then cut everything that didn’t fit or wasn’t 100 [percent] killer,” the quartet’s website notes. The sections remaining are payoffs and exclamation points, a big bowl of shelled pistachios. Confined is only the meat. Nine tracks, nine minutes, never a wasted second. The only warning shot you’ll receive is a well-timed squee.

Of course, one could get the wrong impression and think this album might be information overload, or a disjointed disaster petering out as soon as you internalize the quick shifts. However, Coke Bust are not in this thing for B-movie jump scares. The million-miles-per-hour momentum avoids stalling due to a focus on craft, a tightening of any loose nuts and bolts. The group’s drive to distill and their practice-one-more-time philosophy ensures the parts of this ‘core collage are right where they need to be for maximum effect. It does take leaps. Large ones. Yet, it doesn’t stop to steady itself or stretch. It’s just on to the next one, albeit by priming its muscles with snare rolls and four-string harbingers of powerviolence punch-ups. In that way, it’s akin to a fighter operating five steps ahead. Confined is forever on the hunt for the next opening to shoot through a jab, maintaining its form with an underlying da-da-da-dun rhythm, like a universal hardcore heartbeat.

Coke Bust have made a sort of Group Sex or Blood, Guts, and Pussy for the straightedge set. If that causes one’s eyes to roll, know that this album is free of long, dry soliloquies from an x-ed up Slamlet. It has got worldly matters on its mind, dressing its black circle in a cover which will be as unpopular with your warhawk friends as Raise the Bullshit Flag. Besides, the band has often mentioned in interviews they’re not out to be bold and judge the youth of today. If you imbibe, fine. They do not. And, really, it’s nothing to worry about. Open up and enjoy the ruckus. You’re a squee away from a fresh perspective anyway."

Huge GRAVE MISTAKE WEBSTORE UPDATE for 9.16.13!

GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS / MAILORDER
WEBSTORE UPDATE / 09.16.13

Hello Hello! Long time, no talk. Considering I haven't sent out one of these in over a month, today's webstore update is pretty jam packed with a TON of new records, tapes, and zines! Plus I have even more restocks than normal, always trying to keep the good stuff available. I will have some additional label news later this week, but let's get right to it for now. A QUICK label update ...

The second release on the VINYL CONFLICT LABEL, the debut 7" from Richmond's DEVIL'S HAND has been available for about a month, and we still have a few copies on the limited GREEN vinyl left so be sure to pick it up if you haven't yet! And of course, the NIGHT BIRDS "Born to Die in Suburbia" LP is still fresh so make sure you grab that one as well!

In the "new release" section, we will have preorders for the COKE BUST "Confined" 12" and the RED DONS "Notes on the Underground" 7" up VERY shortly. While you wait, we have some tracks from each release streaming over at the Grave Mistake Bandcamp. The only reason I'm calling this one a "preorder" is because I'm heading out on a little vacation next week so they won't ship until I get back ... but wait time will be minimal as all parts will be in my hands by the time you fork over your hard earned cash. I will say, I am so damn excited with how these two releases came out. A little bit later than we had anticipated, but well worth the wait. We will have ordering info very shortly.

We've also got the second BRAIN F≠ LP at the plant, as well as the HARD STRIPES debut 7" which will be the third release on Vinyl Conflict. Test presses should be in our hands in early October, and if all goes well we will have these records out before the year is up! Some great things on deck for 2014, but I'll fill you in on that later ... looking to be yet another busy year for Grave Mistake.

Nerd talk alert - set up a Grave Mistake Tumblr - follow me at gravemistakerecords.tumblr.com/

Finally, before I get to the good stuff, I've got a special little deal running. After all of the preorders shipped out, we realized we had a few extra copies of the limited version of the NIGHT BIRDS "Born to Die in Suburbia" LP with silkscreened cover.  So I decided the best thing to do would be to just give them away! If you order over $100 worth of stuff from the webstore (that's BEFORE shipping), I'm just going to give you a copy. I only have a few, so you need to ADD THIS ITEM to your cart order before you check out.

Ok, now on to the new stuff ...

WHAT'S NEW FOR 9/16/2013:
http://www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog/products_new.php

Geez, so much stuff came in over the past month, I don't even know where to begin. Let's take this by format!

LPs: The ripping INSTITUTION LP finally became readily available in the US thanks to Mr. Felix Havoc, see what they hype is about and grab this damn thing. LATE PASS - finally scored copies of the FRAMTID "Under the Ashes" LP reissue as well as their newest "Defeat of Civilization" LP ... both of these records are crushing; grabbed a few new LPs from A-389 including the NOISEM LP, IRON REAGAN LP, and newest INTEGRITY LP; that BL'AST LP that everyone is talking about, and for good reason - also grabbed some copies of the DEAD IN THE DIRT LP also on Southern Lord, as well as a restock of the crushing POWER TRIP LP; the newest LP from the UK's one and only VIOLENT ARREST; plus LPs from KENT STATE, CURMUDGEON, BELLICOSE MINDS, SATAN'S SATYRS, WHATEVER BRAINS, CONCRETE CROSS, RAW NERVES, LEMURIA, and MORE!

7"s: Holy crap there are a ton of these. The newest EP from Canada's PROXY is a damn banger ... not sure why I still have copies of their LP either, but get BOTH of these records! The debut 7" from Maine's DNA is a fucking ripper ... been out for a little while now but I finally got my hands on some copies so check it out if you haven't yet; grabbed the debut 7" from Gainesville's ECTOPLASM, the newest CONDITION 7", the final YADOKI 7", the awesome single from THE NOVICE which was Jeff from MARKED MEN'S project in Japan a few years back - a must for any Marked Men fan; the NO MORE ART / DOOM TOWN split and ARTIC FLOWERS / SPECTRES 7"s have been on heavy rotation here at GMHQ, two killer releases courtesy of MAN IN DECLINE RECORDS, the ripping 7" EP from Iowa's NERV, the BITS OF SHIT and GOLDEN PELICANS singles on TOTAL PUNK, newest single from STEVE ADAMYK BAND, and a TON of reissues (some classics as well as some "archive" releases) from the likes of ZERO BOYS, NECROS, STUPIDS, SVART FRAMTID, E.A.T.E.R., MENACE, CIRCLE ONE, DEAD MEAT, and DEMENTED.

TAPES: More new tapes and demos then normal, but the kids DO love their tapes so I guess that's a good thing! Grabbed demos from two brand new hardcore bands from right here in RVA - the CRETINS and NIGHTSTALKER demos. See what's been going down here in Richmond lately. Both bands will have some vinyl coming out early 2014 on Vinyl Conflict so check these out for now. Also grabbed a few copies of the much talked about (and for good reason) WORLD WAR 4 demo which came out last year - so if you forgot to scoop that one, do it now. Also grabbed some rad tapes from PARANOIAS, Australia's VELVET WHIP, the UK's FAMILY OUTING, Oakland bad boiz BAD COYOTES, the newest tape from NY's DEFORMITY, two tapes from Chicago's STRANGERS, MA's LONGINGS, NY's PLEASURE INDUSTRY, Baltimore's SICK THOUGHTS, and more!

RESTOCKS: Soooo many restocks. I think most of em are pretty damn good (otherwise why would I go out of my way to restock it, right?!!!) Some restocks of note are the BLOODY HAMMER LP, INFERNOH LP, both KROMOSOM LPs, GLAM LP, NUCLEAR SPRING 12", POWER TRIP LP, RIVAL MOB LP, most volumes of the KILLED BY DEATH compilations, CATHOLIC SPIT LP, BIG EYES / MEAN JEANS split 7", RED DONS "Auslander" 7", LIFEFORM 7", GOOSEBUMPS 7", both NO COMMENT 7"s, two NO PROBLEM 7"s, demos from SAVAGEHEADS, CONTINGENT, and MERCENARY (three of my favorite demos this year), and more ... check the list below for the rest!

That's it for now ... something tells me most of you didn't make it this far, but if you did then thanks a million!

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE FOR 9.16.13:

LPs*****************************

INSTITUTION "DOMEN AR SATT" LP (HAVOC)
This is a re press of the very limited LP which was originally pressed on DeNihil Records in Sweden. Institution features members of Totalitar, Meanwhile, Heratys and Kvoteringen. As you would presume by the pedigree of the band members they play raw Swedish hardcore punk very much in the vein of the last Totalitar LP.

VIOLENT ARREST "DISTORTED VIEW" LP (BOSS TUNEAGE)
Featuring 75% of the line up of UK hardcore punk legends RIPCORD, you know already that VIOLENT ARREST will not disappoint. This, their sixth release (early releases came out on US labels Deranged and Grave Mistake) is the follow up to 2011’s stunning “Tooth And Nail” (voted one of the best releases of 2011 by punk bible Maximum rocknRoll) and thunders through 8 brand new tracks – all raging new original slabs of passionate , energetic, no nonsense hardcore punk!

FRAMTID "UNDER THE ASHES" LP (LA VIDA ES UN MUS)
Released in time for FRAMTID'S first appearance at Chaos In Tejas festival in Austin, Texas, "Under the Ashes" is finally available again. An absolutely over the top recording comprising twelve tracks of punishing hardcore with a huge wall-of-noize production adding to their faultless song writing. As noisy as the album is, all the songs are hits and hard to forget. 'The Total Arse', 'Tomorrow' and 'Consuming Shit and Mind Pollution' are what the new generation of noize-not-music punk lack, memorable anthems. Housed in a tip on sleeve and without alterations to the art or sound from the original, this reissue tries to bring an undoubtedly classic of our generation back to life.

FRAMTID "Defeat of Civilization" LP (BLACKWATER)
Raw doesn't begin to describe the long-awaited new full-length from these Japanese crust vets. The guitars sound like someone stole the copper wires out of the pickups and ran the cable through three broken distortion pedals with every knob turned past 10. Drummer Shin takes center stage, new songs introduced by dizzying rolls that snap back to breakneck D-beats, over which singer Makino's deep roar remains visceral. “Defeat of Civilization” also demonstrates musical growth with songs running longer (two minutes) than on Framtid's four earlier releases, which allows for ripping, four-note guitar solos. While showcasing the powerful battle cries that made 2002's “Under the Ashes” an instant hardcore classic, it feeds on intensity and passion, making a return 11 years later no letdown.

BELLICOSE MINDS "The Spine" LP (BLACKWATER)
Being lauded as one of the forerunners of the modern day post/dark/goth punk revival (eh?) only scratches the surface of this 3 piece band.  Brooding music overlayed with despair and anger, attacking aspects often untouched or lost in the a-politcal climate permeating the scene these days.  They share similarities in style with bands as far ranging as the Chameleons U.K. or early Cure and Boys Next Door to later T.S.O.L., 45 Grave or Siousxie all the while cutting their own path and staying true to their musical/lyrical integrity.  This 11 song debut album follows up on their earlier demos and self titled ep from a few years back.  The creativity coupled with the dark and moody atmospheric elements in their song writing raising the bar even higher with this newest release.

CURMUDGEON "Amygdala" LP (NOT NORMAL)
Fuck, true believers, we here at NNT (along with our friends at IFB and Parade of Spectres) have a monster of a record for you this time. Ah, Curmudgeon: at once the grimy reflection of and the unfaltering to the American culture of shit. That same culture which perpetuates the daily violence and degradation in our lives and has sold obedience as the ultimate virtue. Every aspect of this record throbs with palpable contempt, even the name, Amygdala, is a mocking stab at a society that has all but voluntarily ripped theirs out. Seven tracks of disgusting, blown-out filth from Boston's premiere Hardcore Punk band. Comes with a beautiful screen printed foldover jacket, dust sleeve, and obi-strip once again flawlessly executed by the band's own Ryan Stanis and screened by IFB.

NOISEM "Agony Defined" LP (A389)
Boasting high-octane death/thrash with a filthy and crispy delivery, Baltimore's NOISEM unload  nine neck-mangling tracks in under twenty-six minutes.  Fans of the originators / masters will not be disappointed, and nonbelievers will be extinguished.

IRON REAGAN "Worse Than Dead" LP (A389)
Hailing from Richmond, VA, IRON REAGAN are a new band featuring members of Municipal Waste/Darkest Hour.  'Worse Than Dead' is the band's debut nineteen track LP loaded with high energy crossover with the focus put on hardcore rather than the thrash you know/love their other bands for.   Comes with awesome retro-style pen/ink artwork by Brent Eyestone.

INTEGRITY "Suicide Black Snake" LP (A389)
Over time, the visual and musical dimension of INTEGRITY has grown fathoms, culminating in the most diverse album in the band' storied existence with their highly anticipated new album: 'Suicide Black Snake'. Comes with gatefold cover, poster insert and invisible UV printing.

BL'AST "BLOOD" LP (SOUTHERN LORD)
The highly influential Santa Cruz hardcore legend: ‘BL’AST!’ formed in 1982 and released its first album, The Power of Expression, in 1985. Their debut album completely blew everyone away and would go onto be one of the “must-have”/classic hardcore albums from the 80s’. ‘Bl’ast!’ was beyond intense and continually pushing the boundaries of hardcore with their advanced musicianship and overall ability to completely explode during live performances. This overwhelming power caught the attention of SST records who released the bands’ 2nd album: “It’s In My Blood” in 1987. Their 3rd album Take The Manic Ride, was released in 1989. As always ‘Blast!’ was reaching to get heavier and as manic as possible and this intense perseverance became an influence for many bands to come. Shortly after the release of Take The Manic Ride the band broke up and their story was buried by time and dust....UNTIL NOW! Earlier this year ‘Bl’ast!’ guitarist: Mike Neider contacted Southern Lord with news that he had found some mysterious old ‘Bl’ast!’ master tapes in a abandoned storage locker. They were sent out to a studio to be baked as the tapes quality had deteriorated ...they were 25 years old after all! Once they had been baked and the audio information had been transferred digitally it was time to find out just what was on these mysterious tapes!  Southern Lord contacted long time ‘Bl’ast!’ fiend: Dave Grohl about mixing this recording and his response was an enthusiastic: “FUCK YEAH! , LETS DO THIS”! Whilst inside Grohls’ famous 606 studios and with the Neve console featured in the recent Grohl produced documentary: “Sound City”, we discovered a completely unheard, unreleased ‘Bl’ast!’ recording session from the mid-80s! The band is absolutely on fire on this recording! The lineup of the band at the time of the recording included second guitarist William Duvall (Neon Christ) who had moved from his hometown of Atlanta out to Santa Cruz on a tip from mutual friends: Corrosion of Conformity to join the band. Interestingly and completely unrelated is that William Duvall is now the vocalist for Alice in Chains! Unfortunately his tenure with ‘Bl’ast!’ was short-lived and no recordings from that lineup were ever released.  From the thunderous bass intro of “Only Time Will Tell” to the apocalyptic warnings of “Its In My Blood” the album completely rips and rages from start to finish.  All parties involved were completely amazed at how vibrant, unique and new the material sounded. “Blood” will be a crucial purchase for any current Hardcore fiend as well as all old fart punker/hardcore folks who loved the band back in the day. START THE MACHINE!

DEAD IN THE DIRT "THE BLIND HOLE" LP (SOUTHERN LORD)
Southern Lord is proud to be releasing the debut album from Atlanta, GA-based grindcore trio Dead In The Dirt. "The Blind Hole" is a blast-laden auditory dissent that is absolutely crushing. On "The Blind Hole," the band takes lessons from bands like His Hero Is Gone, Dropdead and older Napalm Death to create a pummeling final product.

SATAN'S SATYRS "WILD BEYOND BELIEF" LP (TRASH KING)
Remember the go-nowhere kid at your high school in Anytown, USA? The first to drop acid, the first to drop out, the first to wag the finger of adolescent inhibition in the face of all standing in their way. What if that kid actually got their shit together, and took the harder route of transforming their blood, sweat and hormones into a ripping deluge of blasphemous scuzz-rock workouts? Wild Beyond Belief!, the debut album from Virginia's Satan's Satyrs, is that refreshing blast of youthful energy in the staid wasteland of modern heavy metal.

CHAOS UK / EXTREME NOISE TERROR  "EARSLAUGHTER" SPLIT LP (BOSS TUNEAGE)
The “EARSLAUGHTER” split LP between EXTREME NOISE TERROR and CHAOS UK Is widely regarded as one of the seminal and defining albums of the mid/late 80s UK Hardcore punk scene. Originally released in 1987, it was first release for the Manic Ears label, and also the first recorded release for EXTREME NOISE TERROR. Now this classic is made available again on vinyl for the first time in nearly 2 decades, and also features two extra ENT tracks taken from the “North Atlantic Noise Attack” comp LP.

FALSE CONFESSION "OUT OF THE BASEMENT 1983 DEMO" LP (QUEER PILLS)
Sought after tracks by classic nardcore band, mix Crucifix and U.K. punk and throw in some nardcore and thats what you get here one of the best to come out the area.  Eighteen tracks.

KENT STATE "The Wrong Side of History" LP (DEBT OFFENSIVE)
Members of DEEP SLEEP, SUSPECT and CATHOLIC SPIT playing self-described psychedelic death pop. Melding the various genres of their other bands, this LP is a collection of 16 lo-fi, fucked up and insanely catchy noisepop gems that falls somewhere between Guided by Voices, Mega City Four, and Jesu - ie extremely hard to categorize or pigeonhole. Originally released as a series of limited cassettes (all out of print), the songs have been remastered by Daniel Husayn at North London Bomb Factory and resequenced to act as a stand–alone album. Comes with download code.

WHATEVER BRAINS "S/T (2013)" LP (SORRY STATE)
Summer is here, so that means it's time for a new LP from Raleigh, North Carolina's Whatever Brains! Like their previous two LPs for Sorry State, this new album both gives us the fix of jittery, nervous punk we've come to expect from the Brains while subtly expanding the band's sound in a number of non-obvious directions. In particular, there's a discernible dark synth-pop influence on tracks like "Yellow Death 2000" and "New Drop," and big, Brit-pop-style choruses on songs like (my personal favorite) "Bellied Up." This LP also has the band's most ambitious, layered production to date, the bright and clear mastering job from Josh Bonati giving you equal pleasure whether you plan to blast this from your car speakers with all the windows down or take the headphone route down the Brains' sonic rabbit-hole.

PENETRATORS, THE "KINGS OF BASEMENT ROCK" LP (SLOVENLY)
Slovenly Recordings is psyched as all get-out to present a re-release of one of our favorite albums EVER: “Kings of Basement Rock” by the # 1 band in town, Syracuse NY’s legendary THE PENETRATORS! Out of print for years, this essential lo-fi garage-punk master-piece-o’-crud has been remastered from a copy of the original 1986 FRED RECORDS release for supreme filth. The twelve songs in this set were recorded between 1976 and ‘84, making The Penetrators one of the very few original punk bands to spew forth a bitchin ‘60s punk sound, right along with contemporaries RAMONES and DMZ. Totally classic lease-breaking tracks abound here, from the ridiculously howling “Teenage Lifestyle,” to The Penetrator’s theme song “#1 Band In Town,” and the all-time dancefloor stomping, burger munching “Shopping Bag” (see the incredible video that was rejected by MTV on youtube!). Consider yourselves lucky we're forcing this platter out on the world one mo' time... DO NOT MISS!

CY BARKLEY AND THE WAY OUTSIDERS "Mutability" LP (SOUTHPAW)
After releasing one of our favorite LP's on Infinity Cat last year Southpaw asked to do an EP for Cy Barkley. One year later that EP turned into an LP and is easily one of our favorite punk records of 2013 if not the past decade. 11 tracks of killer punk that reminds us of Dead Boys, The Testors and early Wire.

JONS, THE "In the Hole and Out of the Water" LP (SOUTHPAW)
Formed in the mid 2000's in the backwoods suburbs of Baltimore, The Jons have only released one 7" until we asked them to record their debut LP late last year. What they gave us is 15 songs of Minutemen influenced punk with touches of early 90's grunge and Guided By Voices worship. Featuring members of Grave Mistake hardcore act Deep Sleep.

LEMURIA "THE DISTANCE IS SO BIG" LP (BRIDGE 9)
Lemuria is gearing up for round two of recording at the Magpie Cage with J Robbins (Against Me!, Jawbreaker, The Promise Ring) with their third full-length album. This new LP is the follow-up to Lemuria's critically acclaimed album "Pebble," which was released in early 2011 and featured in the likes of SPIN Magazine, RollingStone.com and countless other websites and magazines. For fans of Superchunk.

CONCRETE CROSS "S/T" LP (MAN IN DECLINE)
Concrete Cross formed out of the wreckage of several prematurely aborted NYHC bands including SICK OF TALK, DISNIHIL, and CELEBRITY MURDERS. Musically, there are nods to DIE KREUZEN, POISON IDEA, and CITIZEN’S ARREST while vocally, frontman, Artie Phillie delivers and Animosity-era CORROSION OF CONFORMITY manic performance. All the lyrics have to do with freaking the fuck out, but not in a fun way. Comes with a digital download.

RAW NERVES "FUTILE EFFORTS" LP (MAN IN DECLINE)
Raw Nerves are back with a new vocalist and their most refined set of songs. Raw Nerves sound has been compared to early hardcore like THE FIX and NEGATIVE APPROACH and influences from the ’90′s like, CITIZEN’S ARREST, BORN AGAINST, and RORSCACH. With this LP comes the maturity of band who have crafted their songwriting into a driving, aggressive release that’s full of hooks and riffs that will have you screaming along and dancing in your room. Futile Efforts was recorded at Buzz or Howl studios with Stan Wright (ARCTIC FLOWERS, SIGNAL LOST, DEATHREAT) and mastered by FROM ASHES RISE frontman, Brad Boatright, at Audiosiege (TRAGEDY, MASSAKARI). Digital download included.

NERVE AGENTS, THE "DAYS OF THE WHITE OWL" LP (REVELATION)
"Days Of The White Owl" is the first full-length from Bay Area, CA hardcore punks The Nerve Agents. Following their 1998 eponymous eight-song self-titled EP on Revelation Records, the band's chemistry musically gelled as they added ex-Fury 66 guitarist Zac Hunter to their lineup by the time "Days Of The White Owl" was released in July of 2000. Featuring backup vocals by Davey Havok of AFI, "Days Of The White Owl" contains the rage and fury of hardcore, the urgency of punk and the unique character and substance that is only The Nerve Agents. New pressing now available on blue vinyl. Vinyl version includes digital download of this record.

NO WARNING "ILL BLOOD" 2xLP (BRIDGE 9)
No Warning was a hardcore punk band from Toronto, Canada. In the fall of 2002, No Warning released what some fans consider to be the band's best work and a monumental album of that era of hardcore, "Ill Blood." The vinyl version of this release is a 10-year anniversary reissue of "Ill Blood," the band's first EP and demo, together, all on one release. Vinyl version includes digital download and an etched D-side.

IN MY EYES "THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN" LP (REVELATION)
"We aren't caught up in emulating a genre or style. We just play hardcore the way we would want to listen to it." This is a quote that has echoed time and time again when the band has been asked about their sound. All of it's members see In My Eyes as more than just another hardcore band; "it's all about energy and setting your sights on something and achieving it." Now available again on colored vinyl. Vinyl version includes free digital download of this record.

FIRE AND ICE "NOT OF THIS EARTH" LP (REAPER)
It's obvious this Richmond, VA, four-piece is more than prepared to release their first full-length, "Not Of This Earth." With two 7"s under their belt and a track on 2010's "America's Hardcore" compilation, the NYHC influenced Fire & Ice will continue to reel people in with their groove-oriented style and distinct sound. Since 2009, Fire & Ice has stayed strong; don't expect any less on their first release on Reaper Records. Vinyl version includes digital download.

HAVE HEART "SONGS TO SCREAM AT THE SUN" LP (BRIDGE 9)
Have Heart's "Songs To Scream At The Sun" is a landmark for the history of Boston, MA's prolific hardcore scene. Recorded with Kurt Ballou of Converge at GodCity Studio, Have Heart has created an album that is truly unlike any hardcore record out there in terms of sheer power and emotion, as well as production. Similar to Refused a decade ago, Have Heart has taken the hardcore genre and redefined what it means to be a hardcore band and they're geared to leave everyone else in their wake.

DOWNPRESSER "Don't Need A Reason" LP (6131)
Since the release of their debut EP on Triple-B Records, Santa Barbara, CA's Downpresser has been churning up the California hardcore scene. Now, with the release of their first full-length, "Don't Need A Reason," on 6131 Records, the boys deliver a devastating hammer of an album filled to the brim with some of the most intense, heavy-hitting metallic hardcore to surface in years. Downpresser bridge influences from '80s classics to '90s powerhouses, all the while giving their music an original, contemporary spin that creates a pummeling sound all their own. Now available on vinyl with a gatefold cover.

RELENTLESS "Turn the Curse" LP (6131)
Australia has long been one of the most underrated, yet prolific, hardcore scenes in the world. Among the new wave of noteworthy bands emerging from the island continent is Sydney's Relentless. "Turn The Curse" is an album not to be missed, as it will undoubtedly set a new high point in Australian hardcore.

STRIFE "Witness A Rebirth" LP (6131)
After touring throughout the world in recent years, Strife decided it was time to unleash a new batch of songs and break their 11-year streak of recording silence. With producer Nick Jett (Terror, Rotting Out, Backtrack) at the helm, Strife recruited friend and previous collaborator Iggor Cavalera (founding member of Sepultura) to perform drums for the album and traveled to Brazil to start the recording process with him. Soon after, they returned to California and put the rest of the pieces into place, including guest vocals by Billy Graziadei (of Biohazard) and Scott Vogel (of Terror), plus a guitar solo by Marc Rizzo (of Soulfly).

KILLED BY DEATH VOL. 2 - V/A - COMPILATION LP (REDRUM)
Carved firmly from the same rock of resolute punkiness as its predecessor, Killed by Death: Raw Rare Punk Rock, Vol. 2 continues surveying the cream of the lost punk scene of the mainly '80s, by illustrating at least a handful of the stylistic extremes that fell beneath that banner. Compared to volume one, volume two -- with stalwarts the Child Molestors' wholly unexpected cover of Yoko Ono's "Don't Worry Kyoko," through the similarly returning Mad, and onto Boston's supremely snotty Nervous Eaters (truly one of that city's finest ever creations) -- might not pack the same mainstream collector kudos, but it more than compensates via the genuine excellence of its obscurities.  Again, the emphasis is on American punk, but ratty contributions from Sweden's Rude Kids and Australia's Psycho Surgeons pave the way for the eclectic travelogue of later volumes, and prove that punk made as much sense in such far-flung lands as it ever did in its "traditional" stomping grounds. Featuring tracks from THE FREEZE, MENTALLY ILL, REALLY RED, FREESTONE, DETENTION, EAT, CHEIFS, and more!

SURF CREATURE VOL. 3 - V/A - COMPILATION LP (ROMULAN)
Released by Rumulan (UFOX20) label, this is a compilation album from 1994.  Titled "The Surf Creature, Volume 3," the LP contains 16 rare surf instrumentals as originally performed by obscure bands.  Examples of the artists included are The Starfires, Trademarks, Varitones, The Bonnavills, and 12 others.

OPPRESSED, THE "FATAL BLOW" LP (RADIATION)
Demo collection from this original UK oi! band. These guys were right there with Blitz, Red Alert, and the 4 Skins at the forefront of the early UK oi! scene. Like the best of those bands, the Oppressed combine simple, direct terrace-chant melodies with bruising punk rhythms. Weirdly, there are covers of other classic oi! bands' songs on here ("Angels with Dirty Faces" by Angelic Upstarts and "Bad Man" by Cockney Rejects), but I'm into it. While some might be turned off by this being a collection of demos, these sound absolutely great...

FLESH EATERS "NO QUESTIONS ASKED" LP (ATAVISTIC)
Before the nihilistic hardcore of Black Flag and wasteland blues of the Gun Club was the void. And from that void crept forth a schoolteacher named CHRIS DESJARDINS who in the fall of 1977 was about to simplify his name to CHRIS D. and start one of the most complicated and uncompromising bands ever to emerge from Los Angeles. He had charisma and connections and an irresistible vision, and he recruited members of X, WALL OF VOODOO, THE CONTROLLERS, THE SCREAMERS, THE FLYBOYS and THE PLUGZ—a rotating roster of future punk legends who’d split time from their own bands to become THE FLESH EATERS. By the summer of 1980, the Flesh Eaters had left scorch marks across their genre and their generation both, releasing the debut ‘Disintegration Nation’ 7”, a compilation called Tooth And Nail and a first annihilating full-length called No Questions Asked that critic Richard Meltzer called ‘goddam genius.’ In the Flesh Eaters, murder ballads and cut-up Burroughs-ian imagery and wrecked-in-the-head rock ‘n’ roll were boiled and bled into one terrifying thing by people who practically invented West Coast punk, and who at the direction of Chris D. were now inventing something else. Now Mono Records releases this deluxe LP version of No Questions Asked with complete bonus tracks including the ‘Disintegration Nation’ 7”, the three tracks from the Tooth and Nail and never-before-on-vinyl demos restored at Chris D.’s direction—all material unavailable in the U.S. since its original release, and the definitive reissue of the last great lost L.A. punk band”—Chris Zeigler

RAMONES "RAMONES MANIA" 2xLP (SIRE)
Ramones Mania is a compilation album by the American punk rock band the Ramones. It was released on May 31, 1988 through Sire Records. The compilation consists of 30 Ramones songs, including some single versions ("Sheena Is a Punk Rocker," "Needles & Pins" and "Howling at the Moon"), a single b–side ("Indian Giver") and one previously unreleased song version (the film version of "Rock 'n' Roll High School").  The album contains a booklet with a short history of the Ramones, including the release dates of all their albums. Their best-selling album, it is the only Ramones album to be certified Gold in the United States

MOTORHEAD "NO SLEEP TIL HAMMERSMITH" LP (BRONZE)
No Sleep ’til Hammersmith is the first live album by Motörhead. Released on 27 June 1981, it peaked at #1 on the UK album charts.  With the exception of "Iron Horse / Born To Lose" which was from a 1980 show, it was recorded at the Leeds and Newcastle shows during the Short, Sharp Pain In The Neck five-date tour in 1981. The name of the tour was a reference to the injury sustained by Phil Taylor when he was dropped on his head during some after-show horseplay. Despite the title of the album, the London venue the Hammersmith Odeon was not played on the tour.  Lemmy has stated that originally they intended it to be a double album but they only had enough material for three sides. At time of the album's release, the band were in the middle of their first North America tour, supporting Ozzy Osbourne.

MOTORHEAD "ANOTHER PERFECT DAY" LP (BRONZE)
Another Perfect Day is the sixth album by the British band Motörhead. The album was released in 1983 and reached number 20 in the UK charts.  After guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke left Motörhead in 1982 on their second US tour, guitarist Brian "Robbo" Robertson (ex-Thin Lizzy, Wild Horses) was recruited to complete the tour. On their return to the UK, the band recorded the album Another Perfect Day.

MOTORHEAD "IRON FIST" LP (BRONZE)
After releasing the mighty "Ace Of Spades" and having won critical praise with their live album, how on Earth could Motörhead top themselves? Easy! By releasing a relentless, no holds barred album in the shape of "Iron Fist". Released in 1982, "Iron Fist" sees Motörhead fully grasping their place in the hard rock/heavy metal world.  By this time, hardcore punk and the very first seeds of thrash were already evident in the British music scene. Bands like GBH, The Exploited and Discharge weren't afraid to show their loyalty to Motörhead and Venom wanted to be just like them with a Satanic angle. It's no coincidence that "Iron Fist" was the band's most intense, brutal and fastest album to date.  The production (done by Fast Eddie) was intense and gave a better balance to all the instruments. The sound is considerably more modern than on "Ace Of Spades" and by the same token, slightly cleaner. The title track is truly intense and other songs such as "Sex And Outrage", "Heart Of Stone" and "Speedfreak" could easily pass by as hardcore punk tunes due to the sheer brutality and speed. Slower songs such as "Don't Need Religion", "Loser" and "America" are just as intense.

SHANGRI-LAS "I CAN NEVER GO HOME ANYMORE" LP (RED BIRD)
Seminal girl group sounds from the Shangri-Las – served up with a slightly dark undercurrent that's mighty nice! The group are awash here in Brill Building sounds – getting some nice arrangements from Artie Butler, Jeff Barry, and others – all in a mode that's slightly less than a wall of sound, but which works well to push the girls' voices forward. I Can Never Go Home Any More is essentially an alternate version of the group's landmark Shangri-La's '65 LP – with the addition of the hit title track in place of "The Dum Ditty" song. That's only a knock on this album if you already own that one – as it's essential 60s girl group sounds at their most iconic! Titles include "Right Now & Not Later", "Never Again", "The Train From Kansas City", "Out In The Streets", "What's A Girl Supposed To Do", and "Give Us Your Blessings"

QUEERS, THE "DON'T BACK DOWN" LP (ASIAN MAN)
Yeah, another reissue from The Queers! While The Queers explore whole new areas of pop harmonies that were only hinted at on previous records (there's even a 60's style Farfisa organ on "Janelle, Janelle" and "Punk Rock Girls"), they definitely haven't said goodbye to their own style of bare bones, in your face punk rock, as evidenced by such cute little ditties as "I'm Okay, You're Fucked", and, "Brush Your Teeth." Don't Back Down features 17 songs, which range from butt-slamming classic punk rock to exquisitely beautiful pop

SAMIAM "COMPLETE CONTROL SESSIONS" 12" (SIDE ONE DUMMY)
Complete Control Radio is a nationally syndicated radio show hosted by SideOneDummy Records co-owner Joe Sib. Samiam‘s Complete Control Session is the fifth in this ongoing series. Recorded and engineered at Swing House in Hollywood, CA, Mixed by Chris Beeble and Bill Stevenson at the Blasting Room and Mastered by Jason Livermore.

WARCOLLAPSE "DEFY" LP (PROFANE EXISTENCE)
The Swedish gods of crust break three years of silence to unleash a new masterpiece of epic proportions. Twelve brutal new songs that layer new realms of gutteral intensity to the traditional Swedish d-beat KÄNG of the likes of TÖTALITAR, KRIGSHOT, WOLFBRIGADE, etc. And of course there is plenty of the traditional WARCOLLAPSE sound that emphasizes mournful dirges, captivating guitar leads, and vocal style that is as primal as it is guttteral. If you are a fan of their previoues releases then this will certainly not disappoint – delivering all the goods than made WARCOLLAPSE a name among legends.

IN DEFENCE "PARTY LINES AND POLITICS" LP (PROFANE EXISTENCE)
Fourteen tracks of spastic Ritalin-fueled hardcore thrash from the toxic underbelly of Minneapolis-St Paul. Causticly sarcastic lyrics spewed over super crushing guitar riffs and relentless machine gun-like percussion. IN DEFENCE are definitely hometown favorites (usually drawing bigger crowds than the touring bands they support), have a relentless tour schedule, and are comfortable playing with bands from across the hardcore / punk / metal spectrum. IN DEFENCE have several previous releases out on Learning Curve, Give Praise Scene Credentials and World Won’t Listen Records and have been liked to a cross between MUNICPAL WASTE meets CODE 13. Several members of the PE team ventured out during a blizzard to participate as guest vocalists on this recording!

IN DEFENCE "DON'T KNOW HOW TO BREAKDANCE" LP (PROFANE EXISTENCE)
In Defence play raging thrash punk crossover with a sarcastic/humorous yet political approach to their lyrics. Comparisons have been made to bands like R.A.M.B.O, Crucial Unit and a more anarchy leaning/politically correct version of SOD. This is a reissue of their long out of print first LP. It It includes bonus cuts from their split 7″ with Black Market Fetus and lost comp trax as well as classic In Defence anthems like “NO WAR… BUT STAR WARS”, “BIKE THIEVES CAN SUCK IT!”, “I EAT KIDS” and the first two installments in the “CALL MORE DUDES” Trilogy. PE… Making it available on vinyl again!

AMEBIX "KNIGHTS OF THE BLACK SUN" 12" (PROFANE EXISTENCE)
Knights of the Black Sun is the preview single for the first Amebix studio album in more than 20 years.  This anthemic single is nearly six minutes long and is accompanied by a full length animated video crafted by Andy Lefton and Director Fin McAteer (The HD quality video is accessible via download card included with the record).  This limited edition EP is pressed on premium heavyweight virgin vinyl and includes a laser etched "splat head" image on the B-side.

ABOLITIONIST "THE GROWING DISCONNECT" LP (1859)
"It wasn't until 2012's Bleeding Kansas that Abolitionist really grasped their own identity and were able to stand fully apart from their influences. That's why it's so daring for them to undergo such a significant style change on their second LP, The Growing Disconnect.  The band still have their Dillinger Four/Spits-ish vocals. But, where Kansas left the pop-punk in lieu of post-punk, it's interesting that on Disconnect, the band opt for their most classic sounding punk record to date. For one thing, the band sound harder and sharper than ever: The guitar and drums lock together so tightly that the riffs almost kick out like anarcho-punk smashers. Where the band's songs used to have the warm ambiguity of Jawbreaker, now they slash hard and fast instead. The music here is still rooted in clean, energetic three-minute attacks but the sounds are sharper, at times resembling scrap metal scraped along a fence. Abolitionist have developed a nasty streak, and it works.  Likewise, vocalist Dustin Herron's approach still references the snotty voice of Fat Mike and similar contemporaries, but it too has become more shredded and harsh. While west coast American 90s punk continues to inform his delivery, the blown out bark of bands like Conflict and Anthrax (UK) finds its way creeping into back of his howling so that the music gains a very human, emotional core all while still being able to rock." - punknews.org

ABOLITIONIST "IT USED TO RAIN" LP (1859)
"It Used To Rain is the story about a world where it hasn’t rained in two years. There’s a shortage of water, people start to riot and shit hits the fan. Gas cans rattle along the streets. People machine gun each other for precious liquid. Fire rampages unrestrained. Although the album doesn’t have a narrator directly, the album seems to follow a single individual as he treks through the arid wasteland, confronting others and struggling for life. In a way the ten songs on It Used To Rain create a world similar to that of The Walking Dead comics and tv show and the book and movie The Road. Wherein people fight eachother over something that’s very common in real life. Yet if you’ve seen the documentary Blue Gold the story that Abolitionist sketches comes a lot closer to home.  So lyricwise It Used To Rain is a very smart and well done record. Fortunately the band is able to match the same level musicwise. Abolitionist have this very original mix going of a more punk Against Me!, Jawbreaker and a hint of Dillinger Four. The band doesn’t sound exactly like any other punkband I knew and truly manages to have a sound of their own. To answer the question in the beginning of this review: Yes, It Used To Rain is very good. I’d go so far as to say it’s the most inventive and original punkrecord I’ve heard in the past years." - swnk.org

PROXY "POLICE CAR" 7" (MMM)
Three song ep, the 2nd slab of wax from Montreal's PROXY, seamlessly blends aspects of GBH, MOTORHEAD and TOXIC REASONS. "Police Car" starts off this ep delivering an absolutely unapologetic smash anthem. If you're not used to singing along word-for-word, you better get used to it! "Fountain of Youth" rounds out Side A, powerfully catchy and reminiscent of 80s UK punk greats. "Parasites" on the B Side treads down a slightly more experimental HAWKWIND path, though equally as blistering in solos, bass work and vocal delivery. Features former and current members of INEPSY, KONTEMPT and TRUNCHEONS. 600 pressed w/ cover art by Eugene Terry (Crazy Spirit/Perdition). Catch them this September in Vancouver for the 9th and final DISTORT VANCOUVER FEST!

ECTOPLASM "S/T" 7" (VINYL RITES)
Raging hardcore punk from Gainesville. No d-beats here, more along the lines of Crude SS, Varukers, Kaaos and UK82 bands. Some mid-tempo pounders and some awesome fast songs. Distorted everything. Hardcore punk. 2nd ep on Distort Reality sometime later.

CONDITION "BOMBED OUT" 7" (RUST AND MACHINE)
Very anticipated 2nd 7" from California’s powerhouse CONDITION, and it couldn’t have happened sooner. To anyone that has seen their live act, they will know they are probably the most intense band on RUST AND MACHINE. Their sold out debut EP "Deteriorating" had much recognition, and these 5 new tracks of raw Scandinavian and Japanese influenced hardcore were recorded back in April during their west coast tour when they were sounding their tightest and sickest. This band has a HUGE sound. Current and ex members of KRUEL, EFFLUXUS. DNF etc. Full US tour happening in November. These EPs are in an edition of 600 copies with thick grey cardstock covers.

DNA "S/T" 7" (TRIPLE B)
Ripping debut EP from this Maine band! Eight tracks of raging hardcore in the vein of COC, Poison Idea, and DRI ... a killer combo of thrash, hardcore, and punk.

QUANGO "Fatality" 7" (FWP)
Three song single from this short-lived London band and it sounds like a long-lost relic from 1978. The a-side is an absolute stunner, a jittery post-punk song with an insanely catchy lead guitar line and menacing, spoken vocals recounting a tube accident. The two songs on the b-side are a little more rocked-out with a distinct Sex Pistols in?uence, sounding like the legions of provincial bands that started after the Pistols' rise to fame. The off-the-cuff genius on display here immediately brings to mind the classic singles on labels like Rough Trade, Fast Product, and Step Forward.

BAD PEOPLE "PEARLS BEFORE SWINE" 7" (FEEBLE MINDS)
Vile Western NY dummy punk from the makers of BROWN SUGAR, SPACE WOLVES, WHITE GUILT and CTS. BAD PEOPLE picks up where their collective efforts leave off. Seven grimy, sexually frustrated and socially inept cuts of weirdo rust-belt muzak. The name says it all and the proof is in the pudding. Hardcore for the true outsider. This is a split release with Feral Kid and Ut Records.

CLOCKED OUT "2013" 7" (FINAL COMEDOWN)
Recording mishaps, pressing plant fuck-ups, lost sleeves and departing band members, but it’s finally here and available – the second Clocked Out 7″. Three slices of blown-out rumble with the low end and delay cranked-up in tribute to our masters 9 Shocks Terror circa-Paying Ohmage

NECROS "CLUB HOUSE SESSION" 7" (ALONAS DREAM)
Long sought after by fans, the Club House Session from Nov ’81 finds a more developed version of the Necros ripping through new songs as well as tighter versions of songs from the first ep.  This legendary set is rounded out with a duo of blazing Sham 69 covers featuring a chorus comprising members of Bored Youth and Negative Approach.

STUPIDS "DEMONSTRATION TAPE 1989" 7" (ALONAS DREAM)
Recorded in London, March, 1989; with Iain Burgess at the controls.  Four blistering skate rock anthems!  Recently discovered studio demos for an album that was never released.   Now on wax.

ZERO BOYS "Livin' in the 80's" 7" (1234GO)
Reissue of the KBD comp classic "Livin' In The 80's". Still one of the most sought after singles in all of US punk history, routinely fetching $600 to $800. Zero Boys came from what most in the early punk world would consider absolutely nowhere, Indiana. On the strength of their self released debut 7" (Livin' In The 80's) and their Nimrod Records issued debut LP (Vicious Circle) they broke through that land locked and corn bordered land in to the consciousness of every self respecting punk at the time and that still echoes today. Secretly Canadian reissued Vicious Circle as well as a compilation of rare early material on the "History Of..." LP a few years back making the bulk of their early catalog available again. With their blessing 1-2-3-4 Go! is batting a little clean up by making this classic single available again on the format it was intended to be heard on.

REPLICA "S/T" 7" (PRANK)
The debut 7" EP from the San Francisco Bay Area's REPLICA is fueled by searing guitar, fast blasting drum beats, sturdy tough bass lines and brash, raw vocals. Five tracks that thread many different hardcore influences and sounds - from the metallic thrash and high energy of current Brazilian hardcore to a raw, straight forward punk attack like early LA proto-hardcore or east bay punk to the wild unpredictability of 90's thrash, to make a unique whole. Members from DUCK AND COVER, INFECT, NO STATIK; these tracks were recorded in 2012 at The Dutch Oven by Craigums and mastered at George Horn Mastering. Thick vinyl, foldover sleeve and first press comes with a vinyl sticker.

NOVICE, THE "What You Want" 7" (DIRTNAP)
Dirtnap Records is excited to present the first and last release from Jeff Burke’s (Marked Men/Potential Johns) band in Japan.  The Novice was based in Mito, Japan and were active between April 2010 and August 2012. Members included Takahiro Hashimoto and Isao Fujita who have both played in numerous punk bands and Seiko Harada, whose first band was The Novice. Recorded with Fumito Yamazaki from Your Pest Band in April (?) 2012 and Jimbo Kawamata from Firestarter designed the cover.  Jeff Burke is one of the most distinctive singer/songwriters in punk today, and this single will be instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with his work. Short, choppy, fast, catchy buzzsaw pop, with the perfect balance of melody and grit.  One time only pressing of 1000, all copies come with download coupon.

SATAN'S SATYRS "LIVE AT THE BLACK CAT" 7" (TRASH KING)
Recorded live shortly after the release of their debut LP, this 7" showcases the youthful energy and seasoned swagger of the premier power-trio of the twenty-teens. Filling the stage with their massive stacks of Mississippi-made gear and once-in-a-generation freak charisma, this is the first document of their fully realized lineup. Raw and loud, this puts you in the front row- the proper appetizer for their worldwide assault this year. Catch them at Roadburn, on the road in the USA and Canada, or right in the comfort of your listening room and experience the future of rock and roll: intriguing, heavy, and WILD BEYOND BELIEF!  Professionally duplicated vinyl records with printed paper picture sleeve; first pressing of 500.

NO MORE ART / DOOM TOWN - SPLIT 7" (MAN IN DECLINE)
NO MORE ART, based out of Hamburg, Germany plays classic melodic punk with strong female vocals and super catchy guitar and bass lines. Comparisons to DANGERHOUSE RECORDS bands such as, X and THE AVENGERS with newer comparisons like MASSHYSTERI and VANNA INGET are not far off. Guitarist Will Kinser spent some time playing in RED DONS and that influence is there as well. Their song "Won’t Let Go” is as catchy as anything they’ve ever released.  DOOM TOWN take their name from a WIPERS song and although they utilize the Wipers formula of catchy songwriting paired with a dark depressive undercurrent, they choose instead to drive their songs with uptempo beats and tortured harmonies like those employed by X and more modern bands like GORILLA ANGREB or THE VICIOUS. The song they include on this split belies the complexity of the songwriting by making it sound as if it were simple to write music that is all the things above while at the same time remaining original. We think this is mark of a great band and, indeed, Doom Town lives up to the pressure of that descriptor. Digital download included.

ARCTIC FLOWERS / SPECTRES - SPLIT 7" (MAN IN DECLINE)
Back in print on Man In Decline Records: the split 7” by Arctic Flowers from Portland, OR (ex and current-SIGNAL LOST, DEATHREAT, and VIVID SEKT) and Spectres from Vancouver B.C. Since the release of this split, both bands have released impressively strong records and have toured extensively in both in North America and abroad. Arctic Flowers’ sound has been described as a mix of anarcho and melodic punk (e.g., THE MOB, POST REGIMENT) with elements of post-punk and deathrock. Spectres have a strong post-punk vibe and comparisons have been made between them and bands like JOY DIVISION, CRISIS and SISTERS OF MERCY. Although the comparisons and assessments of both bands are not inaccurate, neither band apes a particular style and both remain original and relevant to the culture of punk today. This pressing features updated blue covers and a digital download.

SARABANTE "Ερμαια των Kαιρών" 7" (MAN IN DECLINE)
Greek melodic crust gods, Sarabante, return with a two-song follow up to their crushing full-length, Remnants (SOUTHERN LORD RECORDS). Inexplicably, the songwriting has gotten stronger and the approach more streamlined. These two songs highlight the punker elements of Sarabante’s sound and this release should place them amongst the strongest bands of the genre (e.g., FROM ASHES RISE, VICTIMS and TRAGEDY). Mastered by From Ashes Rise frontman Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (OFF! DEVIATED INSTINCT). Comes with a digital download.

YADOKAI "Final" 7" (VIDEO DISEASE)
Final 7" from these Bay Area warriors and although it is sad to see them go, I don't think anyone could ever top the 3 songs presented here. Blown out, maniacal, powerful, and downright terrifying hardcore. These final recordings ooze contempt and violence, accentuated by howling vocals and incredibly tight musicianship, this is the final statement from Yadokai, and what a statement it is.

NERV "Life?" 7" (SMRT)
SMRT Records is happy to announce the relase of the debut e.p. by this Iowa City HC band playing straightforward ripping hardcore born straight out of everyday angst and frustration. There's no fucking around here, just straight up catchy and screaming hardcore, eight songs with every song more ripping than the next.

BITS OF SHIT "S/T" 7" (TOTAL PUNK)
Bits of Shit are the toughest gang in town.  Four jean vested droogs  out  for a  good time who aren’t scared to show some muscle if the situation arises.  The club everyone wants to be a part of but no one wants  to stand across from. Well the boys really delivers on this one.  Two tracks of brain crushing punk.  Ferocious, guitar damaged,  and completely essential.  Mid-era Flag with an unhinged loon as a front man who howls, growls, and sneers his way through both tracks. Equal parts Bonn Scott and Johnny Rotten.  I don’t know what cave they dragged this guy out of, but they’re the better for it because he’s got the best voice in the game. The living embodiment of every character Lee Ving played in the early 80′s and just the kind of guy you want leading your club. TOTAL PUNK!!!!

GOLDEN PELICANS "The Earls" 7" (TOTAL PUNK)
Orlando’s keepers of the dump are back with a brand new 7″ on Total Punk. Last year they proved they were the toughest gang in O-Town with their “Hard Head” single, and now with The Earls encroaching on their turf, the Pelicans really bring the muscle. Two tracks of pounding raw punk slop covered in feedback and all held together by King G’s gravelly vocals. 100% grade A TOTAL PUNK.

SVART FRAMTID "1984" 7" (VOLTAGE)
REISSUE!!!!! Six explosive tracks of angry mid-paced punk with witty ideas, raw & wild vocals (so typical of the Scandinavian bands of that time!) yet still full of unobtrusively catchy and raging melodies that partially also constituted a trademark of the style of the SF members? later bands: KAFKA PROCESS, SO MUCH HATE etc. "Scorching those decibels with an uproarious thrash barrage is Norway's Svart Framtid, jumping from chord to chord with different paces and plucks. Six exciting numbers that focus on major world wide problems, as the crude vocalist screams out in agony, like the people who feel it day after day. Speedy guitar with rapid drum splashings lead Svart Framtid into a hectic dose of creative, yet alarming piledrivers. Great active stuff, the tip of the iceburg in Norway." - Pushead

WARCUPID "S/T" 7" (TERROTTEN)
Conceived a few years ago, WARCUPID is a project comprised of members of GRITOS DE ALERTA, LIVING IN HELL, DISARM and HOMICIDE! WARCUPID rage through six brutal raw punk-crust tracks. All those oppressed and over-whelmed by the disgusting reality that harvests our life day after day will be hit by the death cupids arrows full of influences from DISCHARGE, ANTI-CIMEX, DISCLOSE and CRUCIFIX. The lyrics are as harsh and unforgiving as the music... Anti-Poser D-Beat!

E.A.T.E.R. "DOOMSDAY TROOPS" 7" (LOUD PUNK)
Classic 1983 Swedish hardcore punk re press on Loud Punk records with Distro help by Havoc. EATER are 80’s Swedish punk with a good mix of fast paced Anti Cimex style hardcore songs and more 82 UK influenced songs in the vein of the Bristles or Asta Kask.

DAY CREEPER "RAGING BEAST" 7" (DAY CREEPER)
"Columbus indie-garage outfit's second EP. I'll confess that the only thing I remember about their earlier 7" on Tic Tac Totally was that it was so boring I gave up even trying to write a review of it. There was just nothing to say. It wasn't even bad, it was just there. Thankfully they've turned it around on this one. "Turning Into A Man" is confident and well written hard-edged indie-rock with a good build and hook. "Everybody Else" has a tough power-pop vibe that I dig, maybe even a little rocknrolla Dolls-strut to it as well. A real good side with a great boxy sounding recording that gives it all a nice hiss. B-Side ("Zonin' Out") throws some nice punk edge on and they end with a toss off, but those first three tunes are all pretty damn good Columbus stuff, and a great comeback from their last record." - Terminal Boredom

STEVE ADAMYK BAND "MONTERREY" 7" (HOSEHEAD)
"It takes a certain type of band to fit four songs on a 7” EP without the end result sounding rushed. Steve Adamyk Band, the gnarly four-piece out of Ottawa, pull off the feat on Monterrey without forsaking any of the relentless energy they’ve made a name for themselves upon. Evoking some of Jay Reatard’s more invigorating material, Monterrey is a streamlined yet thoroughly enjoyable listen. The title track blasts along with brisk enthusiasm, yet still follows through on each of the punchy riffs. The band certainly allow the four tracks a chance to breathe, but make no mistake, Steve Adamyk Band is a meat-and-potatoes punk rock act who don’t aim to complicate the formula they’ve laid through their four previous full-lengths. “Front to Back”, the longest track here, is as chunky as anything this band has ever written, and firmly establishes them as an act that possesses a sense of self-awareness that compliments their aesthetic. MENACE "SCREWED UP" 7" (QUEER PILLS)
The second reissue from this late 70's  seminal U.K. punk band, somewhere in the middle between Buzzcocks and Cockney Rejects, catchy anthems of pure teenage anger, this is quintessential punk rock.

DEAD MEAT "DEMO 1984" 7" (QUEER PILLS)
After Septic psychos broke up the two brothers formed a new band called no dead meat after they got a steady lineup they decided to change their name to dead meat because not everyone in the band was vegetarian. In 1984 the band recorded 5 tracks for v/a comp tape these five tracks have now been pressed onto wax for the first time with unseen photos and info about the band. This is a limited one time only pressing of 300

DEMENTED "1982 DEMO" 7" (PUKE N VOMIT)
Part of the 2nd batch of vinyl in the Smoke 7 vinyl series.  Ahh… the Demented, a band that was a big flash that came and gone in 1982, like many bands from the early 80's not a long history. The band was started by song writing team Felix Alanis and Nick Lamagna after they finished the album Fall In for their band RF7. Felix and Nick decided they had so much left over material that it would be great if they could get a female singer to perform it, as female punk bands in LA were few and far between at the time. Nick suggested his girlfriend Susie Robledo form Culver city sing, they brought in drummer Mark Baker, a hippie biker dude from Simi Valley and Felix played bass and Nick guitar and Susie sang. This was March 9th 1982 at Harlequin studios. Most of the songs here were recorded live by Felix to a four track Tascam on their second rehearsal. The Demented released 3 songs on the Sudden Death comp on smoke 7 , How can I kill you, Deadly game, and the controversial Back to the bed. Ed Clover took a liking to the band and shot some great pictures. The Demented seem to go far fast but crashed when Nick and Susie kept cheating on each other and Nick tossed his guitar down and quite saying” I don't want to be Fleetwood Mac” Still the sound of an era is kept pure here and who knows what could have happened as the songs are really catchy and bookmark an era in the LA sound of 1982.

CIRCLE ONE "PUBLIC SERVICE" 7" (PUKE N VOMIT)
Part of the 2nd batch of vinyl in the Smoke 7 vinyl series.  First time these recordings are back on vinyl since the Public Service compilation LP was released in 1981.  Four tracks of classic early hardcore.

KRONOFOGDEN "Käftarna Maler" 7" (BLINDEAD)
Let me introduce you to your new favorite band - whether you knew of their existence or not.  Kronofogden hail from the angry parts of Hudiksvall in the north of Sweden and have made a racket since 2009. In 2011 they released their 15-track CD/tape "Rid i natt" and in 2012 their split LP with Inkvisitionen was released. We now have 2013 and and it's time for these youngsters to get their tunes carved into a 7" vinyl.  Four tracks of high speed hardcore punk. Three short and pissed off ragers, that range from just under one minute to almost two minutes, and one longer, but equally raging, tune. This is one enforcement officer you want to have knocking on your door.

MASSACRE DIVINE "Beijando A Morte" 7" (BLINDEAD)
No, it does NOT sound like THAT record.  Fofäo Discrust (Besthöven) and Jo (Germ Attak and more) has joined forces to deliver a zipping, ripping mess of sound on this 7". Raw and crunchy guitars, rolling basslines and "sloppy" hammering drums - topped off by roaring reverby vocals in English and Portuguese. Four tracks of raw punk that sounds like a long lost Discharge recording put to tape some time between "Realities of War" and "Fight Back". Co-release between Blindead Productions and Nuclear Fear Records.

HUMAN POWER "Human Power?" 7" (BLINDEAD)
Four track 7" originally released in 2004 in only 200 copies, but has deserved to be reissued ever since. Over the top Kyushu distortion, burning spirits guitars and the menacing whisper of GISM – delivered by a couple of noise punk loving blokes from the UK. Including Mark from the Wankys.

BAD TASTE / BRAINCAR "Warzone High" 7" (REEL TIME)
Into the future, into the New Year; come along and be saved, lest we all disappear. This is some holy stuff; a split single between longstanding villains, BAD TASTE, and forgettable drop-outs, BRAIN CAR. Nothing but the utmost honesty here, delivered with the shittiest grins you'll ever dream of cold-cocking. "Warzone High" is a wild romp through a distorted past, as seen through the cataract of a grim future; the title track is a homage to the haunted man, to the skeletons we keep in our closets, to those things that we, by our own admission, cannot face, lest they consume us. This is no admission; this is the consumption. Timeless rollicking delivered right on time, in "Be True To Your School" on the flip, courtesy of BRAIN CAR. Loudest release yet; another bullseye!

VVOVNDS - One Sided 7" (MOSH POTATOES)
4-songs of blistering, noisy, slightly progressive power violence from this Belgian band. Beautiful packaging, too, included a screen-printed b-side to the record.

VVOVNDS / SEX DRIVE - SPLIT 7" (WOUNDS AND SCARS)
Split 7" between these two European HC bands. VVOVNDS are from Belgium and play gritty, dirty power violence with a strange, artsy edge. The band name, artwork, and the slightly progressive (but still intense and aggressive) sound all make me thing of the Youth Attack Records sound of a few years ago, before they started putting out bands that had a more early 80s sound. As for Sex Drive, they're Dutch and feature members of a bunch of well-known bands from there. As their name might indicate, they're inspired by the raw, wild (but still song-oriented) sound of early 80s midwest HC like the Necros. A solid split 7" with really great-looking artwork and packaging.

CRUEL HAND "VIGILANT CITIZEN" 7" (TRIPLE B)
Maine's wildest band returns with a brand new 7" single in the vein of Madball and Terror. These two new songs are the first since their 2010 release, "Lock & Key." For fans of Madball, Cro-Mags, Leeway, Life Of Agony, Trapped Under Ice and Terror. 7"

TURNSTILE "STEP 2 RHYTHM" 7" (REAPER)
Collectively from the Baltimore/DC/Columbus areas, these five long-time friends formed Turnstile in 2010 as an outlet to play their shared love of energetic hardcore. On their latest effort, "Step 2 Rhythm," life experiences continue to take a front seat in vocalist Brendan Yates' lyrics and musical approach. "Step 2 Rhythm" contains seven heavy tracks that pick up right where "Pressure To Succeed" left off.

HELLSHOCK "WARLORD" 7" (PROFANE EXISTENCE)
After several excellent releases (including an EP, LP and split 10″ and split EP) and touring extensively in North and South America, HELLSHOCK has become synonymous with Portland crustcore punk. This new EP, recorded in March 2005, contains two powerful and dark anthems against corporate greed and the state power which upholds it. They also have an new LP, entitled Shadows of the Afterworld, on Feral Ward Records and another EP entitled World Darkness slated for release at the end of May 2005. They will be embarking on a full US tour with Finnish legends SELFISH in June and July 2005, and will tour Japan with EFFIGY in October. Having made such a lasting impression is such a short time (so far) HELLSHOCK are poised to become join such legends as AMEBIX and MISERY in the Crust Punk Hall of Fame!

DOOM "POLICE BASTARD" 7" (PROFANE EXISTENCE)
Five songs recorded in 1989, during the same session in which they recorded their brilliant split LP with NO SECURITY. Considered by many to be their best early material, this classic EP contains the songs "Means to an End," "Relief, Pt. 2," and of course, "Police Bastard." This was the second release ever by Profane Existence Records and is considered a masterpiece of "crust."

STATE OF FEAR "S/T" 7" (PROFANE EXISTENCE)
The brilliant debut EP from one of the most successful political thrash bands of the 1990's. Formed by Jay (ex-Disrupt) and Jon (ex-Deformed Conscience), State of Fear made several successful tours and released three awesome record releases before their untimely demise in 1997. Jointly re-issued with Fired Up! Originally released by Reiterate Records.

DEAD MOON "TOO MANY PEOPLE" 7" (MISSISSIPPI)
Two completely unreleased songs along with two songs only available on the hard as hell to find 13 Off My Hook European compilation. Altogether four killer DEAD MOON songs from 1989! Side A features "Don't Hate Me" and "Too Many People"—both quality rock songs. The flip side has the utterly devastatingly beautiful ballad "I'll Follow You"  and the world weary tune "Claim to Fame." All not to be missed songs. Picture sleeve with unpublished photos of the band. It's hard to believe these songs did not make the cut for the early Dead Moon LPs. We are very excited to finally have them out in the world.

CIV "ALL TWISTED" 7" (REVELATION)
Their second single. A cover of "All Twisted" originally by Kraut b/w a ripping original entitled "Do Something." Better than GB.

INSIDE OUT "NO SPIRITUAL SURRENDER" 7" (REVELATION)
One of the most popular releases ever on Revelation Records. Intelligent and introspective lyrics combined with one of the most intense and heartfelt vocal performances ever captured on a hardcore record make this a must have for any fan of the genre. Vocalist Zack de la Rocha later went on to form and front Rage Against The Machine.

SOUVENIRS "TIRED OF DEFENDING YOU" 7" (6131)
Formed in 2011, Carpinteria, CA's Souvenirs has quickly created a buzz with their contemporary take on the sound originally pioneered by the likes of Mineral, Braid and Pavement. While not touring, the band was able to enter the legendary Atomic Garden Studios in early March with producer Jack Shirley (Joyce Manor, Whirr, Punch) to record their 6131 Records debut, an EP entitled "Tired Of Defending You," being released on 7" vinyl. A CD version of the "Tired Of Defending You" EP is also being pressed with the band's earlier "Sadder Days" EP included as bonus tracks. Vinyl version includes digital download.

IVY LEAGUE "SUMMER SESSIONS" 7" (6131)
Hailing from Midland, TX, Ivy League has been churning away now for a couple years. After releasing their debut 7" earlier this year on Life To Live Records, the band quickly got back into the studio and recorded their "Summer Sessions." With their mix of sincerity and excellent songwriting, Ivy League is going to be around for a long time.

SILVER SNAKES / SOUVENIRS - SPLIT 7" (6131)
The art of the split release has all but been lost in recent years, or so it seems. Leave it to Silver Snakes and Souvenirs, both bands that harken back to the great music of the '90s in their own ways, to revitalize the craft of the split so widely loved in that decade. 6131 Records will release the "Winter Songs" split from Silver Snakes and Souvenirs, recalling the great, perfectly paired releases from the likes of Texas Is The Reason and The Promise Ring, The Get Up Kids and Braid, and At The Drive-In and Burning Airlines, to name a few. 7" includes digital download.

SLEEPWALKERS "ADDICTION TO MISTAKES" 7" (6131)
Among the current thriving Los Angeles, CA hardcore scene, Sleepwalkers is one of the young up-and-coming bands helping fuel the area's revival. Sharing members with other local favorites Minority Unit and Nomads, Sleepwalkers offer a unique take on the sound that continues to make Los Angeles one of the most appreciated scenes in the US. Their debut EP, "Addiction to Mistakes," was recorded by Taylor Young (Xibalba, Rotting Out, Nails) and showcases their catchy hardcore/punk sound perfectly.

TAPES / DEMOS*****************************

LONGINGS - DEMO TAPE
LONGINGS is a 3 piece punk band from western Massachusetts featuring members of Ampere, Siamese Twins, and Twerps. They play melodic punk that sounds like Arctic Flowers. The demo cover and insert were printed with stamps. 100 copies, 4 songs.

WORLD WAR 4 - DEMO TAPE
Eight song demo from this supergroup of sorts. All of your boston favorites (members of RIVAL MOB, NO TOLERANCE, ETC) and Mark Porter from FLOORPUNCH on vocal duties. Expect nothing but high quality hardcore from this cast of characters.

PARANOIAS - DEMO TAPE
Paranoias play stripped-down, mid-tempo, late 70’s/early 80’s punk with hardcore twinges, and a heavy lean towards all things California. Falling somewhere between the Dangerhouse anthologies and “Someone Got Their Head Kicked In Tonight” the subtle melody and beachy punk of these tunes are fronted by a ferocious sneer and blunt-edged attack. Ex-GUILTY FACES and MUTANT GENES.

STRANGERS - DEMO TAPE #1
"First cassette from this Chicago project, which is essentially the band Boilerman with Ralph from Raw Nerve on vocals. Though Boilerman are kind of a pop-punk band, of course those guys play in hardcore bands (like, for instance, Noose, Divine Right, Broken Prayer, and others I'm sure) and know their way around a crushing riff, which they utilize here. Given Ralph's distinctive vocals the sound isn't a million miles away from Raw Nerve, but rather than that band's dense and claustrophobic sound, Strangers are something a little quirkier, occasionally reminding me of weird midwestern and southern US hardcore like Clitboys or Stillborn Christians or something like that. Strongly recommended." - sorrystaterecords.com

STRANGERS - DEMO TAPE #2
"Most recent tape from this Chicago project featuring Ralph from Raw Nerve on vocals. If you dug their first tape this is pretty much along those same lines, perhaps with a slightly rawer recording. Just like the last one, you get hardcore that's fast, aggressive, and slightly loose without being tough or overly macho. There's also a little bit of that weirdness that made the first tape special... another one I'd strongly recommend to people who want more than just the ordinary from their hardcore." - sorrystaterecords.com

VELVET WHIP "WARM AND TOUGH" TAPE
Ugly Australian hardcore on the verge of falling apart. Extraterrestrial, spaced out zonk of the finest variety. Tortured vocals and strangled guitar leads all over this thing. I'd say this stands on the same level as early DRY ROT...just that same loose and chaotic feeling. Reckless rocknroll abandon. Part of the new wave of OZ stuff along with GUTTER GODS and DRIBBLE that is really beginning to kick. Import on Cool Death.

DEFORMITY - 2013 TAPE
"NYC's Deformity are one of the hardest bands from that particular scene to describe. Granted, they've gone through a stylistic change or two in their 5+ years of being a band, but only in the past few years have they been the Deformity with whom most are familiar. While they certainly exist within the realm of "hardcore punk," I've heard them described as being a noisy hardcore band in the vein of Condominium, as being a spiritual continuation of early Articles of Faith, or even being a garage punk band. In the end, who cares, though? I've already spent too much time rambling about this non-issue and instead should be focusing on how awesome this demo of new material is! Deformity's first 7" on Always Restrictions and La Vida Es Un Mus was a solid outing of ideas both new and old, but over the past year, as exhibited by their live shows, the band has grown quite a bit. Not only have they graduated high school [note: thirty seconds in, I believe I spot a member of Deformity], but their material is becoming more fresh and exciting as the months roll by. This new demo by Deformity is hands down their best release yet, both musically and recording-wise. My favorite tunes seem to be their more mid-paced ones, like "Itch" and "Glass Eyes," but it's all good, really. According to the band, of all of their new material, the songs collected on this demo are the worst (!!!) songs, with the best songs going on an upcoming 7" that we will hopefully see by the end of the year. I can only imagine how good they are if these are the throwaways. Stay tuned, kiddies." - icoulddietomorrow.blogspot.com

BAD COYOTES "WE GOT OUR REASONS" TAPE
Like sharing a TNT-spiked cocktail with a one-eyed tramp, Oakland's own problem child BAD COYOTES will make sure you're feeling it in the morning. Combining the garage punk sensibilities of bands like THEE HEADCOATS, NEW BOMB TURKS and THE PAGANS and turning it up 5 knotches, BAD COYOTES dish it up. Feral music for feral people. This tape-only release features 12 house rockers you'll want to hide from your parents.

FAMILY OUTING - DEMO TAPE
"The latest dash of hardcore punk from the prolific group of Londoners that has also brought us Good Throb, Stab, Hunger, etc. This is a really great demo that has all of the passion and "now"-ness of the Good Throb stuff, but is working within a more aggressive hardcore/punk template. The angry girl vox remind me a whole lot of the In School demo, and despite the straightforward template the music is actually quite interesting, with some really cool melodic lead guitar that recalls Nog Watt, and maybe even reminds me of the Crazy Spirit demo tape just a hair. This also has perfect 4-track production just like that great Toxic State stuff, so if that's what punk means to you I'd highly recommend checking this out. The packaging is also killer, with the cassette j-cards cut out of postcards to UK tourist traps. Absolutely top-notch." - sorrystaterecords.com

PLEASURE INDUSTRY - DEMO TAPE
Raw, stripped-down punk from this new Brooklyn 4-piece.  Rooted in bands like Crime, The Stooges, and Black Flag, with tinges of Celtic Frost and vocals reminiscent of Void.  7 grimey [sic] songs for people who hate their day jobs without irony.

SICK THOUGHTS "CUT A RUG" TAPE
Brand new teenage punk from Baltimore, MD, blown out and loud the way it should be. Limited to 100 copies.

SICK THOUGHTS "DEFORMATION" TAPE
2nd demo from garage punk wunderkind from Baltimore MD. 11 songs, loud, trashy and punk as fuck.

NIGHTSTALKER - DEMO TAPE
Six songs of meat and potatoes hardcore meant for the knuckle dragger in us all. Not far from the lates such as SSD and YDI, but also not far from currents such as Knife Fight and Urban Blight. Simple hardcore, played not blazing fast, but nor boringly slow. Just miserable.

CRETINS - DEMO TAPE
Six tracks of pummeling hardcore punk from these Richmond, VA numbskulls. Brash and aggressive stuff in the vein of old classics like NOTA / POISON IDEA or maybe REPOS as a modern point of reference. Ugly, self-loathing vocals and a loud, punchy recording mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air make this thing really kick. In other words, hardcore punk devoid of gimmicks or generic trappings. CRETINS are one to watch out for, that’s for sure.

VVOVNDS / ASAD - SPLIT TAPE
All Shadows And Deliverance versus VVOVNDS... Kortrijk, Belgium.  ASAD brings some drone noise that ends in a harsh battle while VVOVNDS pour out a dirty, fast D-Beat alike anthem. The VVOVNDS side contains some disturbing noisey extra.

VVOVNDS - DEMO TAPE
"While everyone is busy getting off on another “blackened crust band with grindcore influences” that popped up some might overlook the new – actually cool – bands that spring forth these days. VVovnds is one of them." -CVLT Nation

SHARDS ZINE - ISSUE#1
Cutting and grafting garbage to form more garbage" - ed. Part collage / part words - though far from a sterile art zine from NYC's Shiva Addanki. Shards explores territory similar in aesthetic and feel to Accept The Darkness but veers away from glorifying freak music to the illuminating the human condition. A stellar compilation of original illustration, collage, and writing. If you're looking for instant gratification, think again and dig into Shards.

CABIN FEVER - ISSUE #4
Latest and best issue yet of this upstart Virginia fanzine. The thing that shines most here is the ed.'s vastly improved writing, which shines in the new batch of reviews for this issue. CF #4 is split between hardcore punk and punk art. In person interviews with France's YOUTH AVOIDERS and Australia's KROMOSOM as well as interviews/art features from NYC's Alex Heir (Death Traitors) and RVA's James Callahan (Barf Comics). All this rounded out by a few punk fest reviews (NY's Alright review contributed by yours truly) and film reviews plus some ace illustration from the ed. The cover/credit page can also fold out into an additional poster! Trogdon. Some bands featured/mentioned include Creamers, Boston Strangler, Brown Sugar, and Arctic Flowers. Holy shit!!!

NUTS ZINE - ISSUE #11
HOLY SMOKES, BATMAN! This is truly Nuts! A brand new issue for 2013 finds the ed. living in New York City and the coverage is rightfully NYC-centric. Issue #11 includes interviews with LA MISMA, DEFORMITY, and HANK WOOD & THE HAMMERHEADS. The Hammerheads interview was actually done in part by yours truly and intended for use in a far-oft issue of Got Myself...but all that aside, this issue truly smokes all prior Nuts! Also included are two posters from Crazy Spirit's Sam Ryser and Heather Benjamin plus show reviews, etc. This issue also delivers the best print job yet, in my opinion. A truly stellar effort, get it now!
