GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS WEBSTORE
NEW ADDITIONS TO THE WEBSTORE
There is so much good stuff in this update I'm not even sure where to begin on this summary, so here goes ... first off, the BASTARD "Controlled in the Frame" 7" reissue has finally seen the light of day! Be sure to grab that because it's a ripper (now all we need is the LP to be reissued!); a brand new TENEMENT 7" courtesy of TOXIC POP records ... a great follow up to their "Napalm Dream" LP (which I just got back in stock, definitely one of my top five releases for the year so check em out!); finally stocked up on all of the new DERANGED titles including the VACANT STATE and NO PROBLEM LPs, THE MEN LP, WHITE LUNG / NU SENSAE split 7", UNLEARN 7", NEGATIVE LIFESTYLE 7", and the TERRIBLE FEELINGS 7" (highly recommended, this band is great!); Two new releases from DIRE which are the long awaited second single from THE LOVE TRIANGLE, and the final 7" from SCEPTERS. Picked up some copies of the very much talked about AVON LADIES 7", the newest single from the one and only RED DONS, two killer VOID and FAITH reissues from DISCHORD, new 7"s from BLOODKROW BUTCHER, VACCUUM, NEMESIS, CREAMERS, MEAN JEANS, HEX DISPENSERS, YOUNG OFFENDERS, OUTDOORSMEN, THE SLEAZE, a handful of the latest ART OF THE UNDERGROUND singles, and new LPs from THE IMPOSTERS, DRY HUMP, HOLLYWOOD, Richmond VA's own LOST TRIBE and AGHAST, LEMURIA CRUSADES, BAD SPORTS, MOTHERS CHILDREN, and a rad 3-way split LP featuring DEFECT DEFECT, DAYLIGHT ROBBERY, and FOREIGN OBJECTS (be sure to grab these three band's LPs too)!
On the non-vinyl end of things, a handful of killer zines including new issues of CHUNKS (not many so act fast), COUNTERFEIT GARBAGE, EXCITEMENT LEVEL ZERO, and PUNKS PUNKS PUNKS, GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD zine and audiozine, and the newest issues of MRR (the November issue features an interview with BRAIN F≠!). Some tapes from VACCUUM, NO STATIK, and OPT OUT, and some pretty cool deadstock UK82 CD collections from VICE SQUAD, DISORDER, and CHAOTIC DISCHORD.
There it was, short and sweet ... hopefully you can find a couple of releases worth checking out, if I were reading this I'd probably just buy one of everything (but that's just me). Also, a special thanks to everyone who placed an order in the webstore while I was out on tour (and waited patiently for my return before said order shipped). It really means a lot to have that kind of support, and I want you to know that it is greatly appreciated! Things are finally running back on schedule over here at GMHQ, and orders are back to normal shipping turnaround time (a day or two) so order away!
Expect a bigger GRAVE MISTAKE update / fall recap in your inbox next week and keep your eyes peeled because we have two new releases due out before the year is up, the SECTARIAN VIOLENCE 7" and (finally) the BAD ADVICE 7"! Plus I might begin revealing plans for 2012 shortly ...
Thats all for now, thanks for reading and have a safe and happy Halloween!!!!! See you next month ...

NEW RELEASES FOR 10/28/11:
BASTARD "CONTROLLED IN THE FRAME" 7" (540)
Holy shit ... finally an official reissue of this raging Japanese slab from 1989. Incredible packaging, great reissue all around. Essential!
TENEMENT "TAKING EVERYTHING" 7" (TOXIC POP)
Appleton, WI's Tenement play some of the best poppy/melodic grunge/punk we've ever heard. We were first introduced to them through their EP on 608 Kisses Records, which was surely a solid effort, but it was their songs on the split 7"s with Used Kids and Friendly Fire that really got us hooked, along with their contribution to the Dead Broke Rekerds vol. 3 cassette compilation. We found ourselves instantly neglecting everything else on these releases to keep going back and playing the Tenement tracks over and over and over. After catching a live show in DC on their tour with Used Kids we fell in love and now we couldn't be more excited to be releasing this 7" single of four brand new songs which were recorded at the same time as their Napalm Dream LP on Mandible Records/Hang Up Records. You can hear elements of influences from bands like Sugar, the Replacements, Mudhoney, Husker Du, and Tad, but the sound is all their own. Both the guitars and the vocals have that perfect balance of crunch and melody and the leads have just enough feedback to give them some grit. We can't get enough.
LOVE TRIANGLE, THE "BOOMERANG GIRL" 7" (DIRE)
Brand new single from this excellent English combo featuring a couple of Shitty Limits. Like their earlier tapes and single, these two songs combine the frantic energy of early punk like the Buzzcocks with the tossed-off quality of 60s Nuggets comps and a killer raw 4-track recording. I dare you to listen to this single and not be chanting "booma booma booma RANG! RANG! RANG! RANG!" for days afterward.
SCEPTERS "CHILDSPLAY" 7" (DIRE)
Final 7" from this British post-punk band featuring some familiar faces. While their earlier recordings had an upbeat, jerky sound somewhere between X-Ray Spex and the rawer early post-punk bands, these final two songs from the band are downbeat, dirgey, and depressing. You still get Ralph's trademark weird guitar, but the emphasis here is on the dark atmosphere and brooding melodies. It's a shame they're done, as these two songs show an intriguing and unique change in direction. RIP Sceptres.
CREAMERS "MODERN DAY" 7" (JOLLY DREAM)
A straight-forward, pissed-off snot rocket fired off from a garage haunted by brats weaned on early Black Flag and Slaughter & The Dogs. “Modern Day,” the debut 7-inch from Austin TX CREAMERS, exhumes the dumbed down innocence of Killed By Death. This easily steals you back to the point before punk rock got PC and started trying to justify its own angst. The brutality comes from the attitude and not the tempo. Limited to 500 copies on white vinyl. Housed in cardstock sleeves.
AVON LADIES "GUNS AND GOLD" 7" (KATORGA WORKS)
The debut EP of Arizona's Avon Ladies, a dark and twisted mess of a band consisting of members of the legendary h100s and the underappreciated-yet-awesome Pigeon Religion. With their unique and depraved brand of hardcore, Avon Ladies has become one of the most exciting bands to come out of the Arizona in a long time. Comes in a slick looking gold foil stamped pocket sleeve. Worth it!
RED DONS "A FORCED TURNING POINT" 7" (NO OPTIONS)
This EP with a 6:20 runtime contains two songs that have been played live by the band for some time now, and where finally recorded with Mike Lust, who is known for his work with THE TYRADES, over the summer in Chicago. For those who don't know RED DONS are the continuation of the much loved OBSERVERS and follow the same style while adding a bit more straight forward 80's hardcore drive much like early ADOLESCENTS and DESCENDANTS. This record continues right where the last LP "Fake Meets Failure" left off.
VACCUUM "S/T (2011) 7" (VACCUUM)
Brand new EP from these Bay Area ragers. Unlike a lot of what's happening now, it's not another Kyushyu-a-like clone here. Just simple hardcore that covers all ground from mid-paced to blazing through the course of this EP with feedback bleeding from every pore. Nods to all times and places throughout the history of hardcore punk without sounding like anything specific.
BLOODKROW BUTCHER "S/T" 7" (BLOODKROW)
Raw, tuneful GBG influenced hardcore punk from lowell, MA. Taking notes from early Swedish/UK hardcore in the sense that the songs are abrasive and catchy without any sort of modern frills.
NEMESIS "DOU-KOKU" 7" (SOLAR FUNERAL)
Hailing from Fukuoka, Japan, NEMESIS is a young band taking cues from UK hardcore punk but played with the speed and intensity of early WARHEAD / NIGHTMARE, with an underlying Kyushu twist that brings homemates KURO to mind. Aggressive vocals, gang choruses, powerful guitars and intense drumming: unmistakably Japanese, this band carries on in the tradition of the Selfish / Blood Sucker / Discrete Records roster. 4 tracks that go for the throat. Raw and pure energy.
TERRIBLE FEELINGS "IMPENDING DOOM" 7" (DERANGED)
North American pressing of their superb Impending Doom 7". Someone described the music as "Loud, dark, therapeutic, and rough around the edges", and Anton once said he played "black angst-ridden power pop." Both quotes sum up Terrible Feelings pretty well. Doomsday pop with punkrock roots. Place their sound somewhere in the wastelands between Wipers, Masshysteri, Ebba Grön and Murder City Devils. Album and US tour in the works for Spring 2012.
NEGATIVE LIFESTYLE "PANIC" 7" (DERANGED)
Second 7" from Sweden’s Negative Lifestyle offers more of the same sloppy 80’s hardcore punk by way of Europe. On Panic, the band returns with 7 new tracks that include a few melodic gems that really sets this record apart. No bullshit, no reverb, no trend-hop ? just a three piece trying to play pop songs using 80’s hardcore as its medium.
UNLEARN "S/T" 7" (DERANGED)
A loud and noisy fury of raw punk attack from Vancouver. Vocals distorted in anguish and a wall of guitars tweaked to ear splitting frequencies held down with an impressive d-beat attack. These guys are definitely into DISCLOSE and MEANWHILE. So far they've released 2 demo tapes, which have received several positive reviews. Future releases include a split 7" with KRUEL and a self-titled LP in September. This one is over in a flash, so prepare for the most pummeling 8min. of your day.
WHITE LUNG / NU SENSAE - SPLIT 7" (DERANGED)
What's a merch table without a new tour single? Problem solved. One new song each for Nü Sensae and White Lung's May-July 2011 North American tour. Initial pressing of 700.
MEAN JEANS / HOLLYWOOD - SPLIT 7" (BIG NECK)
Mean Jeans out of Portland Oregon team up with HOLLYWOOD from Baltimore to destroy rock n roll in one AWESOME EP. (Let's Go Before I Blow My) Brains Out was recorded by Qross at Red Lantern Studios in Portland. HOLLYWOOD's addition was recorded by their old guitarist at Developing Nations in Baltimore. Two different studios, two different sounds, one amazing record.
MONDO RAY "HYPNOTIZED" 7" (WINDIAN)
MONDO RAY has been at the forefront of Munich Germany’s Pop-Garage-Punk scene for a while now, pushing out a hand full of singles and an LP due out as well. The A-Side title track is a quick heater with a “West Coast Sound” drawing from the States and/or Australia, reminiscent of a Circa: Now! RFTC to the Scientists Pink Album. The B-Side “Nothing” is more of what you expect from this duo. Great Garage-Pop, with a Punk undertone, keeping this song moving at a nice pace. Overall, this single is perfect for those muggy summer days. Limited to 500 copies.
ART YARD "ALLSTON 1981" 7" (RIDE THE SNAKE)
Amazing archival release of two songs originally on the Propeller Product cassette compilation from 1981. Art Yard were a short lived, but great post punk band from Boston that could have gone on to greatness, but broke up instead leaving a handful of great tracks. Had this single come out in 1981 folks would be paying a small fortune for it every time a copy popped up
OUTDOORSMEN "VIOLENT HANDS" 7" (TOTAL PUNK)
San Francisco's Outdoorsmen are back with another 7" of GG inspired hate. Two quick blast of crude trashy punk that are over almost as quickly as they began. No time for guitar solos or self reflection, this is Total Punk pure and simple. This is the best looking cover art yet and it took a series of rejections to find someone willing to make this stamp. Pressing of 500 with hand stamped covers.
SLEAZE, THE "CALLED YOU ONCE" 7" (TOTAL PUNK)
Minneapolis's shittiest sons are back to deliver more of their wisdom to an indifferent public. When they aren't smokin fuckin cigs, or doing pcp, their blowin up the phones of unimpressed teenage girls. "Called You Once" is a snotty start stop punker that's sure to be a "hit in the pit!" The B side is "REtro Sexy Blue" a slow punk burner that shows they've got something else brewing under the surface. I can almost hear their pimples popping.
MIDNITE SNAXXX "GUY LIKE THAT" 7" (TOTAL PUNK)
Total Punk is proud to bring these Bay Area broads (members of the Bobbyteens, Trashwomen, and Loudmouths) into the family. I met the Snaxxx in Atlanta and they manhandled me, picked me up, and treated me like a submarine sandwich; then tried to force me into a strip club to watch them yell at strippers. These two short blast of tough edged bubble gum punk may make them seem sweet, but beware these aren't those kind of snaxxx. This shit ain't cute its TOTAL PUNK!!!
PERSONAL & THE PIZZAS "DEAD MEAT" 7" (TOTAL PUNK)
Here it is, the first in a long line of fine Total punk slabs of wax to come. We decided to start things off with our favorite greasy wop toughs, Personal & The Pizzas. ‘Dead Meat’ is a Dictators style fist pumper with Stiv whispers, chain solos, and chants abound. And it’s all about pulverizing creeps. On the B-side we get ‘Joanie’, a punk ballad about stalking some lucky lady in hopes of fellating her that would make Joey proud. 600 pressed. All hand stamped and all Totally punk.
YOUNG OFFENDERS "SISTER SERIES" 7" (RAZORCAKE)
At first glance, the Young Offenders can easily be mistaken for a pack of reckless sods who seem hell-bent on nothing more than beer and a close shave. But on further inspection, you can find them to be a vital cornucopia of endearing personalities and regional accents who have harvested their favorite aspects of post-punk, power pop, and early hardcore to create a sound that is unmistakably their own. In this volume of the Razorcake Sister Series we've teamed the driving, hot steel of the Young Offenders with the Hex Dispensers’ rust and bones witchery. Both bands have an incredibly unique style and play it with pride. And in their pride you can see that they both harness a deep appreciation for their influences, and music as a whole. Hopefully, with these records you can see our appreciation for both of them as well.
HEX DISPENSERS "SISTER SERIES" 7" (RAZORCAKE)
The Hex Dispensers may be obsessed with the dark shadows of the underworld, but they're far from trapped by these interests. Their lyrics speak truths on the most relatable levels, and, at times, are not restricted by reality. While their music sears out of your speakers like an egg cracked onto a Texan sidewalk in the middle of summer, the sizzling and eventual burning is transformed into hauntingly beautiful male and female harmonies.
STATE VIOLENCE "S/T" 7" (HESITATION WOUND)
tate Violence is a hodge podge of members from every other band in DC, including Deathrats, Sick Fix, Hot Mess, and Lotus Fucker. With a demo that barely anyone in DC got their hands on , as well as, a split 7" with fellow DC natives L&T&W to their name, State Violence plays a raw style of punk. This record is noisy at times and raging always. 7 songs in just as many minutes this record rips like the best.
NUKEHAMMER "SOVIET RUST BELT" 7" (HESITATION WOUND)
The first vinyl appearance from this Ohio 3 piece. 7 crashing tracks of mid-paced Rust Belt d-beat punk, mixing a clusterfuck of influences and styles ranging from Kaaos to Gauze to Animosity-era C.O.C. This E.P. contains 5 songs from the demos given proper recording treatment and 2 previously unheard. Analog recording at CDR in Columbus and mastered by Audio Siege for maximum ear piercing ferocity.
BYRDS OF PARADISE "OMEGA MAN" 7" (DON GIOVANNI)
Two-song single from this great noisy pop band. Big hooks and TONS of noise all over everything. Fans of everything early Dinosaur Jr to the Men to Vivian Girls (minus the cutesy vocals) will get into this hard. Killer.
BLACK WINE "AOTU SINGLES SERIES" 7" (ART OF THE UNDERGROUND)
Great 90's influenced grungy punk from New Jersey featuring members of The Ergs! and Hunchback. Very classy! 350 Pressed.
SUNDIALS "AOTU SINGLES SERIES" 7" (ART OF THE UNDERGROUND)
Richmond, VA trio bringing back the sound that you love that Matador Records is generally home to such as bands like Pavement and early Yo La Tengo. Energetic, catchy, and clever songwriting.
PLATES "AOTU SINGLES SERIES" 7" (ART OF THE UNDERGROUND)
Buffalo, NY garage punk mixed with intense, aggravated vocals creating a refreshing sound to confide in when you want to annihilate everything around you. For fans of Eddy Current Suppression Ring and Pissed Jeans. 250 Pressed.
DEAD MECHANICAL "AOTU SINGLES SERIES" 7" (ART OF THE UNDERGROUND)
Baltimore, MD indie pop punk! Great combo of gruff and smooth cool vocals. This band is the definition of power trio. 350 Pressed.
SCUM AGAIN "S/T" 7" (TOXIC POP)
Scum Again are a new-ish band out of Baltimore, MD featuring 4 guys who have been around the local punk scene for many years. You may have checked out some of their previous bands like Warpriest, The Squints, Diablero, Mind As Prison, and Plaguewielder...well this band only has the DIY ethic in common with their previous bands. These boys are letting their love for catchy but gritty poppy punk to shine through with Scum Again. You'll hear influences from bands like Crimpshrine, Fifteen, and the Broadways. Punk rock with hooks that's a bit rough around the edges and full of piss and vinegar.
WARDOGS "OUTCAST BEHAVIOR" 7" (CARRY THE WEIGHT)
Debut 7" following a 2010 demo. Wardogs is a CCHC band taking influence from bands like Outburst, Warzone and Iron Boots.
WAYFARER "LETUMUS CATHARI" PIC 7" (CARRY THE WEIGHT)
The latest release from the UK's WAYFARER, which is a concept 7" dealing with the Catholic crusade against the Cathars in France during the 12th century. Packaging is superb and the record is loaded with awesome Integrity-esque metallic hardcore. Killer!
HARBOUR "S/T" 7" (CARRY THE WEIGHT)
Taking influences from the likes of Dag Nasty, Government Issue and Articles of Faith, this CCHC outfit delivers mature and well executed hardcore punk that should make Wales proud.
VOID "SESSIONS 1981-1983" LP (DISCHORD)
Thirty miles north of DC, there is a town called Columbia - one of the first planned communities in the US, and in retrospect, the perfect birthplace for a band as completely chaotic as Void. Void played from 1980-'83, and although they are often credited for creating the template for alternative metal, their only official releases were the tracks on Flex Your Head and their split LP with The Faith. While organizing the Dischord archive, we came across the 4-track recordings of Void's first session at Hit and Run from 1981. Sessions: 1981- 83 features this never-released recording along with the first Inner Ear demo (which includes the Flex Your Head cuts and the songs that ended up on the Condensed Flesh 7 inch), two out-takes from their second Inner Ear session, and a couple of live recordings - including one that may be the last song they ever played.
FAITH "SUBJECT TO CHANGE / FIRST DEMO" LP (DISCHORD)
The fall of 1981 found the Washington, DC punk scene in a fallow periods when a number of active bands broke up at the same time. SOA, Minor Threat, Red C and The Untouchables had all split up, and this resulted in a number of the musicians reorganizing. Mike and Ivor from SOA , Alec of The Untouchables and Chris Bald formed Faith and played their first show at H.B. Woodlawn High School in November '81. At the end of 1982, Eddie (also a former member of The Untouchables) joined Faith as a second guitarist and six months later they recorded the Subject to Change 12" EP. Though clocking in at less than 14 minutes, this record was hugely important not only to the people here in D.C but all around the world. On Subject to Change Faith introduced a layered melodic approach that would blossom fully in later Faith-related bands like Rites of Spring and Embrace. For this reissued edition of Subject to Change we have expanded the release from its original EP format into a full-length with the addition of 11-tracks from the band’s first demo recorded in 1981 at Inner Ear Studios. Most of these songs were later re-recorded and included on the band’s 1982 split LP with Void
VACANT STATE "FILL THE VOID" LP (DERANGED)
Debut 11 song Lp. Early 80's influenced USHC. If you know Vacant State this is what you come to expect, an obvious Boston crew (Last Rights, Negative Fx, SSD) influence along with Negative Approach. With an Oi twist comparable to more current bands like 86 Mentality and Commitment Crew. Artwork By Dry-Rot's Jordan Darby.
NO PROBLEM "AND NOW THIS" LP (DERANGED)
Debut full length from Canada’s NO PROBLEM is an absolute hardcore punk scorcher. With two great 7”s in 2010-2011, this album showcases a band at ease with their ‘sound’ - blending hardcore and punk with plenty of big riffs and melodies, not unlike Fucked Up’s pre Matador days. Consistent with their earlier recordings, AND NOW THIS is essentially a hardcore record with melodic punk sensibilities similar to the ADOLESCENTS and the OBSERVERS. Featuring Graeme from the Wednesday Night Heroes and recorded by Jonah Falco from Fucked Up.
MEN, THE "IMMACULADA" LP (DERANGED)
Repress of THE MEN's self-released album originally limited to 500 copies. 8 songs of desperate, fuzzed out, riff laden punk/post-punk. But this release really is an excellent mash of shoegaze and drony soundscapes with buried vocals beneath it all. Dreamy at times and get that Sonic Youth vibe. Their new album just came out on Sacred Bones records.
DRY HUMP "FUCKS YOUR EARS" LP (SEX CULT)
Undeniably Raging Hardcore Punk from Boston / Lowell Ma featuring members of MALE NURSES / BRAIN KILLER / BLOOD KROW BUTCHER. Album is continuous, ebbing and flowing between OUTCOLD style panicked aggression and POISON IDEA-esq absolute fury. Brutally hectic lead guitars reminiscent of JERRYS KIDS, along with ugly fuzzed-out droning in between tracks. Will thoroughly fuck your ears into submission. Amazingly fucked up cover art and hand written lyric sheet on either Red/White/Blue card stock. First and only release on Sex Cult Records.
IMPOSTERS "ANIMAL MAGNETISM" LP (DEAD BEAT)
So many modern bands have has been described as surf punk, but almost all of them fall short. The one band that comes to mind that truly fits that description is Hermosa Beach's THE IMPOSTERS. Raised on bands like Agent Orange, the Adolescents, the Gears and JFA, THE IMPOSTERS impecably revive a sound that hasn't been done justice in many many years. Through snarling bouncy riffs and shredded wasted nights, THE IMPOSTERS carve out 13 nasty anthems of surf infected punk rock . If bands like the Simpletones, Sick Pleasure, Agent Orange, Red Kross or Negative Trend mean anything to ya, than this one's definately right up yer alley. Locals only fuckers. No posers.
VACATION "S/T" LP (MANDIBLE)
Vacation plays high-energy/lo-fidelity punk with a perfect balance of blown-out noise and memorable hooks. Their debut LP is an indie/ pop punk record that ebbs and flows like a mushroom trip. The most legendary mushroom trip.
LOST TRIBE "S/T" LP (BLIND PROPHET)
Blind Prophet Records is very proud to present the debut album from Richmond, VA's Lost Tribe. Lost Tribe play apocalyptic post-peacepunk darkwave but with with a solid d-beat & crust backbone that makes this a record both for punks and dark music freaks alike. The atmosphere is comparable to that of The Mob, New Model Army, or The Chameleons but with the power of Discharge or Amebix's rhythm section. It goes without saying that their live show is not to be missed, and you can expect a healthy dose of smoke machines, sweat, studs, and leather. Features members of Aghast, Empty Grave, Syndrome, and Caves Caverns. Comes in a deluxe foil embossed gatefold jacket with a printed inner sleeve (with lyrics!) and pressed on 150-gram vinyl.
AHGAST "BLOOD OPINION" LP (DISTORT REALITY)
"I've always thought it a criminal shame that while people shart themselves left and right over Lebenden Toten (and rightly so) and herald them as the true long-time pre-trend noise believers (and rightly so)......Aghast, who is equally worthy of your sharts and has been playing for basically just as long, still languishes behind as the secret noise bomb of the northeast. It's not for want of quality. Aghast has been on a good upward trend since day one, and this is no exception. This LP is to be filed with their latest 7" as their best works to date, more fully encapsulating their take on crasher crust. This could sound biased but it's the drumming here that really clinches this band. Yes the chaotic arrangements and catchy songwriting push and pull together to make a good listen, but the real fluid drum style and impeccable sense of composition is what really takes this band to the next level. Also, a good working example of a factor in this style that so many non-Japanese bands seem to forget: that you can have a "good", full, strong studio recording that still sounds noize as fvck." - http://sphc.bigcartel.com/
CRUSADES "THE SUN IS DOWN..." LP (RAZORCAKE)
To call the Ottawa punk scene incestual makes it sound too wholesome. At this point, a band family tree would be impossible. They’ve crossed the line into band forest territory; new sprouts feeding off the old growth. It’s a successful ecosystem inhabited by amazing musicians. At the end of the day, those people and their bands are releasing the most high quality records, per capita, in the entire world. The newest germination is Crusades’ debut full-length, The Sun Is Down and the Night Is Riding In. In my eyes, all punk worth a damn is somewhat anti-Christian, but Crusades take it to a new level. They combine their disdain for organized religion with melodies four voices deep. Crusades own the night, enlisting the unholy powers of unlikely allies like The Chinese Telephones, From Ashes Rise, and Alice Cooper.
LEMURIA "PEBBLE" LP (BRIDGE 9)
With some of the sweetest sounding girl/boy dueling vocals heard in indie rock in years, Buffalo, NY's Lemuria is poised to be one of 2011's breakout artists. The band's debut Bridge Nine album, "Pebble," is chock full of catchy choruses, intricate guitar work and sugary vocals. The pristine recording was done at the Magpie Cage with producer J Robbins (Hey Mercedes, The Promise Ring, Jawbreaker) and delivers 11 solid tracks that are perfect for fans of Superchunk, Paramore, Get Up Kids and Sebadoh.
DEFECT DEFECT / DAYLIGHT ROBBERY / FOREIGN OBJECTS - SPLIT LP (DIRT CULT)
Literally, years in the making, this amazing record is finally seeing the light of day! This one-sided 12" featurs two songs each of my three favorite bands in punk rock today. Defect Defect has been around for ages, but really hit their stride with their debut full length released last year by Residue Records. Old school punk featuring members of all your favorite PDX punk bands like THE OBSERVERS, AUTISTIC YOUTH, THE MINDS, etc. As an added bonus, this record features my all time favorite song by the band, "People My Age." Daylight Robbery is a great Chicago band that sounds like a modern day X (Los Angeles) without the blues, or maybe the American GORILLA ANGREB. Foreign Objects should be familiar to those of you who have picked up past Dirt Cult Releases. Female fronted punk rock, like Kathlene Hannah fronting BLACK FLAG.
BAD SPORTS "KINGS OF THE WEEKEND" LP (DIRTNAP)
Bad Sports were formed in 2007 in Denton, Texas by Orville Neeley, Daniel Fried and Gregory Rutherford, who came from a variety of different bands in the North Texas area. Their debut self titled full length was released in late 2009 on Douchemaster Records following a string of singles, and showed the band's songwriting mature into a more refined pop territory without losing their edge. The group's energetic live shows (inclduing a show-stopping performance at Dirtnap Records' 2011 SXSW Showcase) have won over audiences across the US, as well as helped gain them notoriety as one of the best live acts in the nation. Prolific to a fault, Bad Sports members currently also play in the High Tension Wires, OBN IIIs, the live incarnation of Mind Spiders, Wiccans, Video, and many more. Kings Of The Weekend, the band's debut for Dirtnap Records, picks up right where the last one left off, showing a penchant for highly developed pop songwriting skills mixed with the speedy garage punk/pop sound of their first LP. A great recording by Mark Ryan of The Mind Spiders/Marked Men fame really compliments the band's sound, making this one of our absolute faves of 2011, as well as the 4th LP in a row Dirtnap has released by Texas bands. We should really just move there...........
MOTHER'S CHILDREN "ARE YOU TOUGH ENOUGH" LP (TAKEN BY SURPRISE)
Canada seems to be the new fertile ground for smashing powerpop. MOTHER'S CHILDREN hail from Ottawa, the same place as great bands like SEDATIVES, STEVE ADAMYK BAND (who they share a member with), WHITE WIRES and many others are from and keep making me go GAGA. This 6 track 12" is the follow up to their well received THAT'S WHO! LP on DERANGED. Dirk Klotzbach from OX put it this way (I fully agree!): I really hope that you all followed my call up from OX # 92 in the meanwhile and have bought yourself a copy of MOTHER`S CHILDREN "That´s Who" Debut LP. So just to make it clear once again, there is no excuse ! The same as great as mentioned LP is this follow-up 12" from the Canadians. Power Pop Glam´n´Roll driven to perfection that should be spinning on your record player multiple times a day and that still is on a par with it´s musical archetypes. Take your personal hits from the first three Powerpearls Compilations add it up with the two episodes of Killed By Glam, listen to "Milk & Alcohol" and "She´s A Windup" by DR. FEELGOOD once again, don´t forget your BOYS, STIFFS and FAST CARS records and imagine you would be warped right back to the Seventies where you would be seeing all those bands live on stage, because this is the moment when you realize that you are dancing and beerspitting right in front of the stage of a MOTHER`S CHILDREN show. Maybe you´ll even meet Noddy Holder or Gary Holton there on your timewarp.
HOLLYWOOD "STUNTS" LP (BIG NECK()
On their debut studio album this band has balanced the blown out sound of their first singles with 12 newly spit shined punk rock ‘n’ roll tunes. After former guitarist Christian Death moved to start The Mean Jeans, the former trio expanded into a five piece. While no members were hurt during the recording of Stunts, the sounds captured could bare the warning: KIDS, DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.
LIEUTENANT "S/T" LP (ART OF THE UNDERGROUND)
A complete smoker that travels to many places melodic while still raging beyond belief. The rough mix of about half the songs has been circulating for about seven years… this is the complete, remixed, finished monster. Screen-printed artwork over individually hand-painted chipboard jackets. Cool silk screened covers, limited to 300 LP's.
BYRDS OF PARADISE "TEENAGE SYMPHONIES" LP (DON GIOVANNI)
At once filthy, dreamy, druggily intoxicating and soberingly intense, Brooklyn-based Byrds of Paradise churn out slop pop tunes wearing garage/psych/punk clothing that are as sweetly sticky as they are layered, noisy and driven. The band, started by D.C. expatriate Kenny Brown in late 2009, is clearly informed by classic D.C. punk sonics, although not defined by them. That winter, Brown left D.C. to return to his New Jersey home and dedicate several weeks to recording a long- planned demo with his dear old friend and now singer Jared J Jones, ex-Dustheads). Brown then relocated to Brooklyn, where a full band came together with Alan Yuch (ex- Mongoloids) on drums and Brenden Britz (Subway Sadists, Whiteworks) playing bass.
AMSTERDAMNED "S/T" LP (GUMMOPUNX)
After an earlier 7", now we're lucky enough to get a 12" compilation of previously-unreleased material by this awesome early 80s Dutch HC band. The sources come from a great-sounding live recording (sounds like it's straight from the sound board) and a rawer rehearsal recording, and feature tons of unreleased tracks. Essential stuff for your connoisseurs of early 80s Euro core.
VACCUUM "SPACE FI DEMO" TAPE
Second cassette release, with two songs from each of the two VACCUUM vinyl releases, but presented in entirely different "space fi" sound. Paco called it "Fisher Price Punk," but you might just call it ridiculous. 4 tracks, pro-dubbed/printed cassettes with printed covers.
NO STATIK "WE ALL DIE IN THE END" TAPE
Cassette version of the Prank Records 12" from 2010 with the A side from the Iron Lung Records 45 (so, a discography of sorts). 8 tracks, pro-dubbed/printed cassettes with printed covers.
OPT OUT - 2010 DEMO TAPE
This is the third run of our now not so new demo, but they have just been for sale at shows until now. Marginally active frustrated hardcore music from San Francisco with current/ex members of CONDENADA, ARTIMUS PYLE, BRILLIANT COLORS, DECONDITIONED and others. 8 tracks, pro-dubbed/printed cassettes with printed covers.
COUNTERFEIT GARBAGE - ISSUE # 6 ZINE
YES! Here it is, the brand new issue of one of America's best hardcore punk fanzines. I think this straight out trumps issue #5, both in terms of layout and content. Issue #6 features a SWEET TOOTH interview, review of a wild OMEGAS show, the return of the "Pretentious Assholes" record collecting section, and of course, one of the best record & zine review sections in hardcore/punk. CG#6 is back to the feel of earlier issues, with Matt executing the layout and Rob offering up the majority of the writing. Full size, 22 pages.
CHUNKS - ISSUE #4 ZINE
Brand new installment of this top notch Australian zine. This issue features an lengthy interview with FREE SPIRIT's horniest 8 year old transsexual manbaby DANIMAL. Also a cool feature on WNYUs classic "Crucial Chaos" radio show, a little tribute to 80's Australian rippers MASSAPEAL, and FLOORPUNCH's MARK PORTER talkin some football and doing word association. I've compared past issues of this zine to the infamous TOWN OF HARDCORE, and this one is no exception. Grab it while you can b/c these won't last long.
EXCITEMENT LEVEL ZERO - ISSUE #2 ZINE
Second issue of this Richmond hardcore zine dedicated to nothing but the best in no-bullshit HC. Features interviews with THE BOSTON STRANGLER, STRIPMINES, CRAZY SPIRIT, and ACCEPT THE DARKNESS fanzine. Rounded out by reviews and high quality live shots, recommended for cut-and-paste hardcore enthusiasts. Full size, 26 pages.
PUNKS PUNKS PUNKS - ISSUE #5 ZINE
In the 5th volume of the bay area's premiere underground punk zine, we interview Noose, Peace, and Needles. We also have a Q&A session with Henry Rollins, scene updates, an updated punk point list, the first Punks! Punks! Punks! Newsletter, and other various punk information.
GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD FANZINE - ISSUE #1

Bands interviewed are WOMEN IN PRISON, OMEGAS, DOUBLE NEGATIVE, IRON LUNG, and VAASKA. The B-side of the tape is a mix that'll make you wanna drive your car fast. Comes sealed in a nice baggie on professionally duplicated tapes, info card included.
MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #341 - OCTOBER 2011
It’s the greatest month of the year! October! A new issue of MRR hits the newsstands, this one is #341 and features a delightful cover by none other than Brian Walsby, hardcore illustrator extraordinaire! He is interviewed within, alongside Buffalo hardcore mutants PLATES, Gainesville’s savage DIET COKEHEADS, and Mallorcan punk destroyers DECRANEO. We got Australian garage sounds from ROYAL HEADACHE, who are currently on a US tour, Brazilian hardcore from the raging UNFIT SCUM, London garage slinksters BLACK MAMBA BEAT‘s tour of South Africa, and an interview with the evil minds behind Mongrel Zine. Plus we got an exclusive look at the illustrious ED NASTY AND THE DOPEHEADS for all you collector scum and KBD maniacs, and a scene report from San Jose, CA! All of that plus the usual columnists that rankle and sooth, the news you can use, and more reviews than you’re gonna know what to do with!
MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #342 - NOVEMBER 2011
Yes, kids, it’s the November 2011 issue of MRR! This month we have a noisecore symposium featuring members of Kyushu Japan’s finest, including CONFUSE and SEIG-HEIL. That’s right, the genre defining, brain annihilating sounds that have doomed many a punk to a life of spending loud night… We also have an interview with our own columnist George Tabb‘s former HC band from the early ’80s ROACH MOTEL! Plus, there are interviews with Buffalo NY’s hardcore mutants BROWN SUGAR, mysterious North Carolinians BRAIN F≠‚ Boston’s devastating BRAIN KILLER, more noize-not-music — from the Netherlands this time — with NEKROMANTIKER, some Oi! courtesy of Washington State’s AIRES AND GRACES, Canadian punkers VAPID, a talk with Nevin from long running Florida label IFB, and Brazilian anarcho-HC ragers NO REST. All of this madness along with the usual assortment of columnists to puzzle, delight and annoy, and the most extensive review section in punk rock print!
CHAOTIC DISCHORD "FUCK RELIGION, POLITICS, THE LOT OF YOU" CD (DEAD RINGER)
This CD compiles virtually all of Chaotic Dischord's early output including the "Fuck The World" 7" (1982), "Never Trust A Friend" 7" (1983), "Don't Throw It All Away" 12" EP (1983), and "Fuck Religion, Fuck Politics, Fuck The Lot Of You!" LP (1983), and their track from the "Riotous Assembly" compilation LP (1982). It features an exhaustive 31 songs total and serves as a great early years discography CD. The members of Vice Squad and their entourage were regularly making side projects (the others being Dead Katss and Sex Aids), and Chaotic Dischord was the most prolific and longest running of those projects, actually exceeding the lifespan of Vice Squad itself. Chaotic Dischord hated a lot of things, but they had a special hatred for Chaos UK and Disorder, two of the bands they were inspired by in an effort to mock. 'Dischord's main point of contention with Chaos UK and Disorder was that they thought those bands played a style of music that was tuneless, devoid of any musical quality, effortless, and ultimately talentless. This album features some of the earliest and best Chaotic Dischord material, and i hope some people might enjoy this CD.
DISORDER "TOTAL DISORDER" CD (DEAD RINGER)
Nifty singles collection CD combining all the early stuff on a handy little collection. Most people know the deal with Disorder, so there's no need to go into much detail about them. Along with Chaos UK, they represented the Bristol, England noise sound that was highly influential in Europe and Japan in the 1980s. This compiles all of the early singles onto one disc. If you're into noise, argh, fuzz, distort, and feedback, there's a good chance you're into Disorder.
VICE SQUAD "RIOT CITY YEARS" CD (DEAD RINGER)
After appearing on his Heartbeat Records compilation "Avon Calling" (1979), Simon Edwards of Heartbeat Records wanted to release an EP for upstart punks Vice Squad of their own. He approached Iain McKnay of Cherry Red Records who was handling the distribution for Heartbeat Records about releasing a Vice Squad EP. Iain McKnay resolutely opposed the idea and promptly turned down the proposition. Not to be deterred, Simon decided to form a new label with the members of Vice Squad as co-owners under the name of Riot City Records. The label debuted in 1980 with the first Vice Squad EP, "Last Rockers" and was a smashing success, selling over 20,000 copies of the 7" single. This CD compiles Vice Squad's Riot City Records era output including their "Last Rockers" 7" (1980), "Resurrection" 7" (1981), and the song "Coward" from the "Riotous Assembly" compilation LP (1982), which is a personal favorite. Vice Squad went on to sign to the major label EMI after these releases which brought about a great deal of controversy due to EMI's involvement in the arms trade and manufacture of weapons. Vice Squad then continued to use the Riot City Records logo on their releases leading to more confusion as many came to think that Riot City Records was owned by EMI (which would have meant that releases by anti-militarization bands on Riot City including Chaos UK, The Varukers, and The Underdogs among others would have been owned by EMI). Of course none of that was true, and it was just a shared logo before everything in the world was copyrighted. Vice Squad seems to get overlooked today often times, but they were a top tier UK82 band and one of the elites of the time, and this CD is a handy compilation of their best and earliest material. This CD also includes the Vice Squad side project Sex Aids 7" that was released by Riot City Records.
CHAOTIC DISCHORD "NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL A FUCKIN RACKET" CD (PUNKCORE)
For those unfamiliar with the story behind Chaotic Dischord, they were formed as a joke band. Members of Vice Squad had started Riot City Records along with Heartbeat Records head honcho Simon Edwards. After Vice Squad signed to a major label after their second single on Riot City, they let Simon completely take over the operation of the label and to make all the decisions for himself. He went on to release records by Chaos UK and Disorder (on a side label for Disorder). However, the members of Vice Squad HATED both bands and thought they were both tuneless noise (arguably true), so they concocted an idea to make a joke band called Chaotik Dischord that made songs up on the spot in the same style as Chaos UK and Disorder. They recorded a demo tape and sent it to Simon as a joke to see if he'd fall for it. He did and in turn included them on the "Riotous Assembly" comp LP, mislabeling their name as Chaotic Dischord. Chaotic Dischord went on to be the most prolific band on Riot City Records as well as one of the best selling writing many songs making fun of bands like Chaos UK and even a song called "Fuck Off Ripcord" in the mid '80s. This CD actually combines two really good Chaotic Dischord albums onto one album. The first is the "Now! That's What I Call A Fuckin' Racket (Vol. 1)" LP from 1985 released on Riot City Records side label Not Very Nice Records (which according to Simon Edwards was released on "Not Very Nice Records because it wasn't really a very nice record"). The other LP on here is the "Live In New York" which was released by Riot City Records in 1984. In typical Chaotic Dischord style, the album wasn't live at all and they never played in New York or the United States. It was recorded live in the studio with audience sounds added in to make it sound like they were playing a massively large stadium to thousands of people. Of course the reality was Chaotic Dischord only played a few shows ever.
This album turned out to be quite controversial as Punkcore Records ended up getting sued by EMI because the cover of this was a rip off of the "Now!" music series that EMI had been releasing of complete and total pop crap. Subsequently, Punkcore was ordered to stop producing the CDs, so only a limited amount made it out into circulation. These are the remaining stock copies purchased directly from Punkcore Records.

HOLLYWOOD "STUNTS" LP (BIG NECK()
Members of LEMURIA, RUNNING FOR COVER, JOHN BROWNS ARMY, STILL ILL, KITTY LITTLE, FAILURES UNION, THEY LIVE, GIVE UP, HAIL MARY and more.Split label release with Art Of The Underground Records, Warm Bath Label ,and Peterwalkee Records.
