WEBSTORE UPDATE! New BLOODY GEARS, NO CLASS, TRAUMA, VAASKA, NOMAD, and MORE!

GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS / MAILORDER
LABEL AND WEBSTORE UPDATE 05.17.12

Greetings! Here's a brand new webstore update for you! It's fairly brief compared to the last couple I've done, so hopefully I won't be taking too much of your time here. Before I get to the new distro items for the week, some quick label updates.

In case this is the first update of mine you've read this year, the first four planned GM releases for 2012 are out now and available in the webstore and hopefully your favorite stores and distros as well.  Some updates on those - I still have a handful of color vinyl left for both the BAD ADVICE "Do Not Resuscitate" 7" and the BLOODY GEARS "Frozen Rain" 7" so grab em! The SECTARIAN VIOLENCE 7" color is sold out, and the first press is almost gone as well ... SV will be touring the states next month, most of the shows will be with POISON PLANET and you can check the dates HERE.  The first batch of BIG EYES "Back from the Moon" 7" on white vinyl have sold out, BUT I have 100 more coming hopefully before the month is up, so that's good news for all of you that missed out the first time around. The band will also have copies of the white vinyl too, so if you catch them live pick one up from them!

Some quick updates on upcoming stuff - the SCHOOL JERKS vinyl will be done this month and we are putting the finishing touches on the artwork, hoping for a mid to late JUNE release on that LP, so stay tuned for more info. The NIGHT BIRDS "Fresh Kills Vol. 1" LP is in motion as well, hoping to have it in time for their July West Coast Tour.  The new BRAIN F≠ LP is recorded and is awaiting some mixing and mastering, so expect more updates on that one in the coming months. SECTARIAN VIOLENCE will also be recording for a new 12" when they are in the US that I will be putting out here and CARRY THE WEIGHT Records will be pressing it in the UK.  Finally, unfortunately no updates on the wonderful reissue projects we've got slated for this year (86 MENTALITY, THE THUMBS, STRIKING DISTANCE, MOD SUBS) but if all goes as planned, I'll be pulling the trigger on at least 2 of those next month. Stay tuned!

On to the new distro stuff ...

WHAT'S NEW FOR 05.17.12:
http://www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog/products_new.php

Ok, gonna keep this short and sweet. First off, I grabbed a handful of DEEP SLEEP shirts off them on their last day of tour, as well as some left over Tour version of their "Turn Me Off" LP ... I think this is the first time that DEEP SLEEP shirts have been available online, so grab em while you can! Got a bunch of killer new LPs including the new BLOODY GEARS LP on Deranged. The "Frozen Rain" 7" single that came out on GM last month was for this LP, so if you dug that then you NEED this! Also grabbed copies of the new NO CLASS LP on Deranged as well ... and before you ask, the new CREEM LP was ordered but delayed, so I should have that in the webstore next week if all goes as planned. In other LP news, picked up some copies of the new TRAUMA LP on Feral Ward, the new NATURAL LAW and MERCHANDISE LPs on Katorga Works, along with the new NOMAD 7" and restocks on the WARRIOR KIDS LP, HOAX 7" (finally!), and CREEM 7"!!!

Picked up a ton of new singles too, including the newest from VAASKA on Heartfirst, also finally grabbed some copies of the KRIEGSHOG "Hardcore Hell" 7" as well (a few years late, I know)! Grabbed the three newest Canadian reissues from Ugly Pop (SPYS, HOT NASTIES, ROCK'N'ROLL BITCHES), a ton of releases from Feral Kid Records; 7"s from MAYDAY, WHITE WHALE, I OBJECT, HUMAN TOUCH, PLATES, RESIST CONTROL, and some restocks as well (BROWN SUGAR, INSUBORDINATES); also grabbed the newest 7" single from Hermosa Beach's THE IMPOSTERS!

Finally, stocked back up on reprints of FOUR different issues of DISTORT zine, highly recommended.  Also restocked the NEGATIVE INSIGHT zine w/ tape, and grabbed two killer demos from Richmond's BARGE and Toronto's KREMLIN!

That's all for now, thanks for reading!

NEW WEBSTORE TITLES FOR 05.17.12:

BLOODY GEARS "LANDSCAPES OF DISEASE" LP (DERANGED)
The first full length from Boston trio Bloody Gears. Eight tracks of dark melodic punk, bleak and bitter as New England winter. These songs express the frustrating alienation and looming despair of modern existence. Drawing their own sound from punk, postpunk, and hardcore, Bloody Gears are often compared to bands like the Wipers, Husker Du, Moving Targets, or Articles of Faith. The LP, which builds on the foundation of a demo and two 7"s, includes a different mix of the recent single "Frozen Rain."

NO CLASS "KEINE KLASS II" LP (DERANGED)
Keine Klasse II is No Class' 2nd attempt at peering out of their 'Neanderthalic' cave in which they reside. Perceiving a world which they still don’t care for, Keine Klasse II picks up the motion where Keine Klasse left off, with 10 more tracks of knuckle dragging commentary on your identity, religion, scene and whatever else rubs them the wrong way. Which is pretty much everything. With the right touch of hate and sarcasm….. it's fast, it's slow, it's intellectual, and of course, moronic. Nice gatefold jacket to boot.

TRAUMA "S/T" LP (FERAL WARD)
Brand new on FERAL WARD, ten ripping tracks. "Trauma is a hardcore band hailing from Portland, Oregon and include two guys from Tragedy (Todd and Billy). Tracks are fast, short and powerful and hardly last over a minute each, vocals are shouted, guitars are chaotic and deliver raging riffs reminding of Finnish hardcore bands. There is no any filler all track are nice. This is aggressive and powerful hardcore and the decent sound helps the band deliver the goods"

NATURAL LAW "FIND THE FLOCK" LP (KATORGA WORKS)
Debut LP from this HC band who, apparently, is partly from NYC and partly from DC. The label description also makes a comparison between this and late-era Minor Threat, and I can definitely hear that... not so much Salad Days as Out of Step. It also reminds me quite a lot of Verbal Assault, Four Walls Falling, and others who took that complex, song-oriented HC sound and ran with it. However, Natural Law are a lot more raw and unpolished than either of those bands, so if you like, say, the UX Vileheads LP you'll also dig this one pretty hard. Definitely a standout. Katorga Works / Deranged

MERCHANDISE "CHILDREN OF DESIRE" LP (KATORGA WORKS)
Just in time for the summer is this infectiously catchy new one from Florida’s Merchandise. Their previous album (Strange Songs) in the Dark was an eye opener or sure, with a wonderful mixture of darker post-punk, shoegaze, and touches of their former hardcore related projects. However, with Children of Desire the group has tossed a lot of that out of the window and are certainly going for broke on creating a pop masterpiece here. By all accounts they are coming about as close as to anything I’ve heard for years with this record. Wonderfully blended once again, keeping around enough of the fuzz and scraping metallic distortion from the gazier aspects of their sound to surround the Moz like crooning of singer Carson Cox. It also helps that this has a deliciously 80’s throwback indie/pop vibe throughout it, right down to the production values and the echoed drum effects. Perfect. Did I already mention that this thing is catchy? Oh right, I did. Well it is worth mentioning again because the effects of listening to these tracks are the cause for countless days of humming riffs to myself while walking around work. I wasn’t really aware that Merchandise had this sort of potential in them, even after hearing their excellent debut record, but Children of Desire is the type of album that is going to stick around for awhile. No doubt. Get ready to see this championed throughout the summer folks. It’s good, real good.

NOMAD "S/T" 7" (KATORGA WORKS)
NYC d-beat warriors Nomad return with their elite brand of ultra-distorted punk insanity in the vein of Confuse and Disorder. Sung in Japanese, Nomad brings the best single syllable sing-a-longs and fist pumping glory in all of the U.S. Split release with TOXIC STATE.

VAASKA "CONDENADO" 7" (HEARTFIRST)
A new 6 song EP by VAASKA from Texas. They come from the vibrant Austin scene and feature members from other more or less known bands which I will not mention here. After two 12"s on Todo Destruido and 540 records this is their first 7" EP and on here they have taken a slightly new direction, away from the early raw sound. This 7" has it all, great power, hooks and vocals in Spanish. This 7"s features 6 hits clocking in at just under 10 minutes. Recorded again by Hanz Zimmerman, Mastered by Jack Control and beautifully packaged in gloomy artwork by Brian Miller. Besides the lyric insert this EP comes with a double sided silk screened inner sleeve printed by the Big Double Os. VAASKA are currently writing songs for another 7" to be released later in 2012.

KRIEGSHOG "HARDCORE HELL" 7" (HEARTFIRST)
Re-release of their debut EP with new artwork and one extra song. One of the most amazing bands in recent times and one of the hottest new bands from Japan at the moment. The original sold out instantly in February 2008. Here is what MRR hat to say about the original version: "I am almost left speechless on how fucking good this record is. the ultra-hardcore brutal legion needs to maim and murder to get this record ‘cuz it fucking kills an I heard it is already long gone. ok, what does it sound like, you may ask? driving, fist-pumping hardcore with loads of distortion, ferocious drumming, and vocals that drive right through my skull. side one paints a picture for you by having some war-time sample – ya know, gunfire and commotion followed by a sic-year-old girl’s blood-curdling scream – then in comes the audio assault. killer!" (martin sorrondeguy, maximum rocknroll no. 300).

IMPOSTERS "FIRE PLUG" 7" (IMPOSTERS)
Brand new single from Hermosa Beach's THE IMPOSTERS. Two new tracks, the follow up to their LP on Dead Beat records. So many modern bands have has been described as surf punk, but almost all of them fall short. The one band that comes to mind that truly fits that description is Hermosa Beach's THE IMPOSTERS. Raised on bands like Agent Orange, the Adolescents, the Gears and JFA, THE IMPOSTERS impecably revive a sound that hasn't been done justice in many many years. If bands like the Simpletones, Sick Pleasure, Agent Orange, Red Kross or Negative Trend mean anything to ya, than this one's definitely right up yer alley. Locals only fuckers. No posers.

HOT NASTIES "INVASION OF THE TRIBBLES" 7" (UGLY POP)
At long last, a legitimate reissue of this Calgary band's superb "Invasion of the Tribbles" EP, originally released on the band's own Social Blemish label in 1980. Three tracks of smart, rough and original punk rock bursting with angst, enthusiasm and youthful naivete. Think a provincial Canadian equivalent to Peer Pressure, Tapeworm, Razar, early Television Personalities or the second Now 45. Needless to say, we're very excited to be doing this. (UP027)

SPYS "UNDERGROUND" 7" (UGLY POP)
Hailing from the unlikely locale of Windsor, Ontario, just across the river from Detroit, this crew of youthful punks managed to cough up yet another classic Canadian 45 in 1980. Nothing arty or pretentious here, and definitely nothing remotely "post-" about their brand of tough but catchy punk rock, which strikes that ideal balance between adolescent aggro and irresistible hooks. One of the toughest Canadian singles to find, but here's your chance to scoop a copy without having to cut back on the month's groceries. Comes with both original sleeve designs and unseen photos. (UP028)

ROCK'N'ROLL BITCHES "WILD WEST" 7" (UGLY POP)
While their name remains known to few outside the rabid record collector cogniscenti world-wide, this legendary Alberta outfit came barrelling out of Edmonton in 1980 with just this one near-perfect-- and very limited-- record before imploding and disappearing for evermore....but what a record it was. Coming across like nothing so much as a super-charged version of the first Teenage Head LP, these punks amped up the energy and aggression without sacrificing an ounce of their inherent raw tunefulness and swagger. Legitimately one of the greatest Canadian punk/rock'n'roll records ever released, and back in print for the first time in over thirty years! (UP029)

SCREAMING FEMALES "UGLY" 2xLP (DON GIOVANNI)
Screaming Females' seven years as a band, four full-length albums and 700 globe-spanning live shows has made them difficult to miss. Through it all, the New Brunswick, New Jersey trio have continued to exude a frenetic energy which is built upon the zeitgeist of America's punk and indie underground yet has always remained forward-looking.

POINTS, THE "S/T" LP (MUD MEMORY)
The Points are a mysterious trio duo with no last names from the hinterlands of Virginia. They drink beer, play short songs that sound sorta like the Ramones, but faster and tougher, like if Dee-Dee was from Fredericksburg and lived in his car. They don't talk much or have patience for them that does.

GOD EQUALS GENOCIDE "RATTLED MINDS" LP (RAZORCAKE)
God Equals Genocide encapsulate the over the top fucktastic jackassery of having the time of your life with your friends while constantly getting pissed off by the state of the world. They’re at times vulnerable but never sentimental, angry but hardly bitter. With unrelenting dual male and female vocals, thrashy riffage, fist pumping melodies, and cowboy chord sing-along breakdowns they provide a respite from the unoriginal and unenthused.  Rattled Minds sounds like worlds falling apart, while worlds are being created. Sort of like life. Imperfect, beautiful, disappointing, fractured, irreducible, wonderful life. GEG a punk band. With melody. With shambolic, effervescent spirit.

WHITE WHALE "NO SOLACE" 7" (FERAL KID)
This is the 4th EP from Buffalo, NY's White Whale, following a self-released EP, EP on Big Neck Records, and a split with Mallwalkers.  Scum Stats: 320 Units, Black Vinyl, Screen-Printed cover.

WHITE WHALE / MALLWALKERS - SPLIT 7" (FERAL KID)
Mallwalkers are a modern response to Black Randy and the Metrosquad. Soul inspired punk with a horn section. This is the third vinyl appearance of Buffalo, NY’s White Whale, first being self-released and the second being on Big Neck Records. They play dingy garage rock with some catchy hooks to keep your attention

MAYDAY "S/T" 7" (FERAL KID)
"Surf-punk done poorly is some of the most wretched music one can create, but surf-punk done well (and what a rare bird that is) is actually a shitload of fun. I'm enthused to have one band (two even, if you count Insubordinates from Rotchester) doing it well in Buffalo, widely renowned home of sand, waves and sun. This three song 7" is lifted from a larger batch of recordings (and they had a tape out previously) and they play tunes that I imagine would have appeared on the 'Beach Blvd.' comp if it was released on Dangerhouse. Surprisingly strong and tough female vocals (and that's her on the blistering leads as well), and get this: she actually sings! And sings well, at that. Match that with a swinging rhythm section and it makes for some cool jammers. There's the obligatory instro and a punker on the A-Side, and "Blud Beach" on the flip sounds like The Gears for a minute or two before getting all stoned out for the ride home. Exceptional and one of the few local bands that are actually exciting and have some inkling as to what playing punk music actually entails. Scum stats: unofficial "Seasonal Geese" sleeve variant of 30 copies (some with condom), I imagine there have some regular sleeves and a few hundred more records as well.(RK)"  Review from Terminal Boredom

I OBJECT "SAVE YOURSELF" 7" (FERAL KID)
First new record in 4 years. 2 originals and a Screamers cover. mid-tempo angry yet catchy female-fronted hardcore punk. This is the best record that the band has put out to date.  "First new music for this band in quite sometime and recorded as a three piece, with Biff playing both guitar and bass and he's quite proficient on both and generates a fiery wall of sound. Three blistering songs--the thrashy "Savior," mid-tempo "Taboo" and a hammering cover of the Screamers' "In A Better World," which obviously takes on a different dimension with the addition of non-keyboard instruments. And quite a colorful cover, as you see... Glad to have 'em back." - suburban voice

HUMAN TOUCH "S/T" 7" (FERAL KID)
Debut EP featuring member of Running For Cover, Coworkers, Bestower and other ragers fron Buffalo, NY. Fast, raging, female-fronted hardcore-punk stuff.  Scum Stats: 320 Units, Black Vinyl, Screen-Printed cover. no variant

PLATES "TAKING PICTURES OF POOR PEOPLE" 7" (FERAL KID)
Second EP by the band and a bit heavier than the last. Very gritty and angry punk in vain of Flipper or Jesus Lizard style to some degree. This single is from the same recording session as their self-titled LP on Big Neck Records

RESIST CONTROL "DISSIPATION" 7" (FERAL KID)
This band is a powerhouse from Buffalo, NY consisting of older dudes that have been around for a while and know what they are doing. Really heavy and fast hardcore punk which brings to mind the aggression of the likes of No Comment. Short, fast, and fucking pissed! 11 song EP. "After a killer demo from awhile back and a couple tracks on the recent Buffalo Brutality comp, Resist Control unleash a raging EP. Fast and intense, the songs blaze by in a matter of seconds. The urgency is up front and in your face. The drummer sounds like a machine! So fast and throttling. Just listen to “Ideas Not Politics”: teetering on the edge of chaos! The only time they really slow down is toward the end of “Kleptocracy.” The chorus on “Falling Apart” slows down a touch and is catchy, but they keep it in the red for the most part. Damn good record!" - RAZORCAKE

PORCUPINE "WITNESS TO A CHASE SCENE" 7" (HANG UP)
Fuzzed out alt/indie rock from Wisconsin. Not to easy to tag these guys... maybe Dinosaur Jr. meets Foo Fighters? Loud Ugly Pop!

MANGES, THE "MANDY" 7" (HANG UP)
The Manges are more than a band, they're a punk rock institution! They've been keeping the blitzkrieg beat alive for more than 12 years now.

BOYS CLUB, THE "EGBDF" 7" (HANG UP)
This looks deceptively more lo-fi/lo-budget/lo-talent than it actually is; the record actually feels more like a contemporary cross between some sort of American indie club rock that never gets punker than the Buzzcocks ((though it does not sound Buzzcocks-like in the least)) and some kinda late 70’s punk/mainstream fence-straddler like Willy DeVille singing some song about how he wants some girl whose first and last names both end in a vowel to come down and meet him on the street corner or something, plus a few showy flourishes like doo-woppy bits and modern dissonance-pop chunks and breakdowns where all the music cuts out except for an unplugged electric guitar in the corner and the vocals suddenly coming out of a little tinny speaker. Took a couple spins but i really warmed up to it. They’ve indeed done fine, i tell you!!! BEST SONG: “Barracuda” BEST SONG TITLE: “Barracuda” if you are Heart or DMZ or someone i guess. FANTASTIC AMAZING TRIVIA FACT: The lyrics include the phrase “The Frozen Tundra” so you should obviously purchase a copy at once. –Rev. Norb

BARGE - DEMO TAPE
Brand new band from Richmond, VA punishing fastcore / power-violence in the vein of CROSSED OUT, INFEST, NO COMMENT; you know, all of the classics and this definitely holds up with the best of them!

KREMLIN - DOUBLE DEMO TAPE
Both 2011 demos by Toronto's KREMLIN on one tape. Canadian lumberjack lunatics influenced by TEEN IDLES meets SODOM (Japan) or THE SEXUAL. Expect no mercy! 10 songs of basement recorded punk filth. Professionally dubbed tapes for maximum loudness. Highly recommended! 7" coming soon on Hardware Records.

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #349 - JUNE 2012
It’s a new month and Maximum Rocknroll, the world’s longest running independent punk magazine, has another great issue to offer! MRR #349, the June 2012 issue, with another killer cover drawing by Guillem el Muro, features UK anarcho-punk legends ANTISECT reflecting on their past and their upcoming tour, and Virginian crusters APPALACHIAN TERROR UNIT discusses the band’s motivation through its radical political lens. We talk with David Ensminger about his book Visual Vitriol: The Street Art and Subcultures of the Punk and Hardcore Generation, the Bay Area’s own NEGATIVE STANDARDS tells us about their multimedia assault to their noisy hardcore crustiness, Montreal Canada’s hardcore insanity known as the OMEGAS give us the down low, and ONLY FUMES AND CORPSES gives us a look at hardcore punk in Ireland. South Africa’s first punk band POWERAGE tells us about the emergence of punk in their side of the world, and the Bay Area’s NO STATIK discuss their scary hardcore driven noise mess. And this issue features three Japanese bands, starting with the long-running ZYANOSE telling us about punk in their town, while Japanese pop-punkers YOUR PEST BAND chime in, and the raw and loud noise attack that is SKIZOPHRENIA gives us a quickie. We also have a moving testament to the legacy of Peruvian punk movement Rock Subterraneo and the triumphant return of EUTANASIA; and a killer Greek scene report done by our very own new coordinator Lydia Athanasopoulou! As always, we also have an array of columns, news, and the most extensive review section in punk rock print!

WEBSTORE UPDATE! New SHIPWRECKED LP, SICK SICK BIRDS LP, and MUCH, MUCH more!

Hello! Yup, I'm back again with yet another huge webstore update for you!  Before I get to the distro stuff, just a reminder that two brand new Grave Mistake releases, BLOODY GEARS "Frozen Rain" 7" and BIG EYES "Back from the Moon" 7" are now available. I've got a handful of the BLOODY GEARS 7" left on colored vinyl, and a small amount of BIG EYES 7"s on colored vinyl as well so grab em if you haven't yet! I'm really stoked on both of these releases, and hope you will be too. Feedback so far has been pretty positive, please feel free to check out some tracks on the Grave Mistake Bandcamp page if you are curious!

Thanks to everyone who's ordered these new releases so far, and my apologies for the slight delay with mailorder towards the end of last month.  Happy to say, as I write this I am completely caught up with orders and I hope to have everything ordered this weekend in the mail by Monday! So thanks to everyone for your patience and support in 2012 so far! Still a LOT more ahead ...

GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS WEBSTORE:

WHAT'S NEW FOR 05.04.2012:

Ok, this webstore update is pretty massive, as the new stuff has just been piling in over the past few weeks. I have a bunch of great brand new releases, as well as a decent amount of older titles that have been around for a bit, but I hadn't carried them previously ... so please bear with me! As always, there should be something for everyone here so check it out.

First off, I got a couple of HUGE boxes of records from Germany's own CRUCIAL RESPONSE - a label that has been at it for a LONG time so I'm really excited to have a decent chunk their titles in the distro finally. I was able to grab plenty of copies of the brand new SHIPWRECKED LP and I also stocked up on some great releases from INSURANCE RISK, GET THE MOST, TRUE BLUE, MAINSTRIKE, COMMITMENT CREW, DEATH OR GLORY, DAMAGE CONTROL, OVER THE LINE, MANLIFTINGBANNER and a handful of other assorted titles.

Second, I got a very nice shipment from my good friend MICHL at TAKEN BY SURPRISE Records - some killer records from STEVE ADAMYK, BLANK PAGES, OUT ON A LIMB, W.H. WALKER, DEFECT DEFECT, CAT PARTY and I even was able to restock on the new MOTHER'S CHILDREN LP, AUTISTIC YOUTH first LP, and MARVELOUS DARLINGS "Shoot the Piano Player" 7".

In other assorted new releases - grabbed the newest LP from Baltimore's SICK SICK BIRDS - one of my favorites so far for 2012, definitely check em out if you haven't yet - both of their LPs are phenomenal; picked up a couple of new 7" singles from HESITATION WOUND records - the HUNTING PARTY 7" and SKVLT 7"; some cool new singles from NEO CONS, NEIGHBORHOOD BRATS, HAUTE COUTURE, and FUGITIVE FAMILY; the brand new (well, a domestic press on 12" format) POSION PLANET "Boycott Everything" 12";  a bunch of new releases from IRON LUNG Records including the newest from SLICES, WALLS, TRUE RADICAL MIRACLE - and I even finally was able to restock the TOTAL CONTROL "Henge Beat" LP that everyone has been raving about (and for good reason, of course); picked up some copies of the new self-released LPs from both BAD AMERICAN and NUDE BEACH; finally grabbed copies of the debut LP from Richmond, VA's FLECHETTE - highly recommended if you are into Drive Like Jehu, Fugazi, or other bands of that ilk; grabbed a ton of DEATHWISH INC titles I had yet to carry, including releases from RISE AND FALL, VICTIMS, KYLESA, RESURRECTION, DISFEAR, HORROR SHOW, 108, and more; stocked up on a bunch of older (but awesome) LPs, including the NO PARADE LP, SLEEER CELL LP, SLOWMOTIONS LP, the BALANCE OF TERROR LP, and a handful of assorted raging singles from the early-mid 2000's.

Grabbed a bunch of tapes as well, including all three of the new KENT STATE split tapes. KENT STATE is Nick from DEEP SLEEP's latest project, and although it's a bit different from DEEP SLEEP it's still equally as awesome - peep the descriptions below and see if they'll spark your interest! I also grabbed demos from Canada's S.H.I.T. and Washington DC's MISLED YOUTH, and an awesome Maryland based zine called FREE STATE, definitely check all of that stuff out.  There's even more in the list below that I didn't get to mention, so take a look!

Finally, on a completely unrelated note, I contributed a submission for my friend Patrick Martin's BEST SHIRT EVER blog - check it out if you get a chance, the blog is awesome - a bunch of people nerding out about their favorite band shirts. Always fun.

Well, I think I've taken up enough of your time for now, as always thanks for reading and thanks for the support!

NEW WEBSTORE TITLES FOR 05.04.12

SHIPWRECKED "THE LAST PAGANS" LP (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
Lifting weights to early Taang - XCLAIM the north with our northeast sound. These words are taken from Fast Violent Noise, the opening track on the new Shipwrecked album entitled The Last Pagans - thier only and last full-length recording. The quote says a lot about this record, the motives behind Shipwrecked, and its aging horde. The LP, 21 songs in total is pure assault from start to finish. No prisoners hardcore shaped in the fires of old Boston, early England and the dark lands of heavy metal."

INSURANCE RISK "VIOLENCE IN OUR MINDS" LP (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
Strong little thrasher from Oslo City delivering great violent ditties at rapid pace. Reminiscent of SS Decontrol, Negative FX and early Boston hardcore with wildfire disbandon. A few singsongs to boot. A record the Boston Crew would be proud of.

NEO CONS "HARDCORE ELITE" 7" (ABSCESS)
This brand new 7" single from Neo Cons was recorded in the same session as their debut EP on Deranged. The A side is a mid-paced hardcore stomper titled, "Hardcore Elite", and is backed with a cover song from Dutch legends Jezus and the Gospelfuckers/Agent Orange - "Kill The Police". Raw, snotty, catchy hardcore punk from the Bay Area.

FUGITIVE FAMILY "THE SADDEST STORY EVER TOLD" 7" (VINYL JUNKIE)
The debut release from Fugitive Family. Another one of those hot punk bands from Houston. Members of The Secret Prostitutes, Reason Of Insanity, Crime Wave, The Energy, Bloody Hammer and more! Retro punk rock from the future, picking right up where Reason of Insanity left off. 9 tracks on here. One time pressing of 300 copies.

NEIGHBORHOOD BRATS "WE OWN THE NIGHT" 7" (ABSCESS)
Brand new 7" single from Neighborhood Brats. Catchy LA/Dangerhouse inspired punk from the Bay Area. 1/2 Neo Cons, ex- The Orphans. Incredible full color artwork by Robbie Simon.

STEVE ADAMYK "DESECRATE" 7" (TAKEN BY SURPRISE)
Steve Adamyk is the guitarist of the band SEDATIVES who I had the pleasure of doing a 7" with last year. He started the STEVE ADAMYK BAND as a solo project and the line-up now includes Emmanuel and Dave from the SEDZ! This is their 3rd 7" following two great smashers on P.TRASH and RED LOUNGE respectively and their smashing debut LP on P.TRASH. 3 songs on this one now, if you need comparisons before you click on the buy button, ok, I think this sounds like a mix of POINTED STICKS and THE BARRACUDAS. Whoever doesn't like those two bands must feel no joy in life...

BLANK PAGES "S/T" 7" (TAKEN BY SURPRISE)
After many delays it's finally here! The debut 7" by Berlin based BLANK PAGES. Members were / are active in bands like IDLE HANDS, MODERN PETS, LIES FEED THE MACHINE and DRAMAMINE. They pick up the torch from IDLE HANDS playing meldoic punkrock with a certain WIPERS twist and offer 4 songs on this EP. Watch out for them playing your town soon!

PDX VOL. 2 - V/A - COMPILATION 7" (BLACK WATER)
Great comp on Blackwater. This one leans postpunk/goth with an unreleased early version of Arctic Flowers' Crusaders + Banshees, as well as Bellicose Minds, Moral Hex and Funeral Parade. 4 of portland's finest.

HAUTE COUTURE "S/T" 7" (SHOGUN)
Vinyle press of the 2011 demo tape by this band from Paris, France, well French dudes with an American drummer, actually inspired by US HC bands like The Fix or Poison Idea, they also bring in mind more recent bands like Much Worse. 6 song EP. 300 copies.

HUNTING PARTY "SUB ROSA WITH WHIPSERED PACTS" 7" (HESITATION WOUND)
Hunting Party is a pissed off, heavy, off the beaten path hardcore punk band reminiscent of Born Against, Lifes Blood, and a little Rorschach. Hailing from the Bay Area and consisting of members of DESOLATION, NIGHTSTICK JUSTICE, and ECOLI, Hunting Party lives up to the rich pedigree of great Bay Area Punk Rock. This record will pummel you.

SKVLT "S/T" 7" (HESITATION WOUND)
The debut record from Amherst, Mass' SKVLT. Raw blown out punk mania from the USA with a depressing blackened twist. This record is loud and brutal. Screened covers and 18x24 poster.

GOVERNMENT FLU "S/T" 7" (REFUSE)
This 7" is out of print - picked up some copies from another distro! Fast, tight and rockin' 80's hardcore from Warsaw, Poland w/ ex and  current members of DAYMARES, SUNRISE, KNIFE IN THE LEG, THE BLACK  TAPES and BURST IN.

POISON PLANET "BOYCOTT EVERYTHING" 12" (THIRD PARTY)
This was originally released as a 7" in Europe by REFUSE RECORDS. In an effort to get it ready for tour the band unfortunately rushed the original layout. Knowing that they wanted to release it in the US at a later date, plans were made to go all out on the finished product. The internal and external layouts were redesigned over several months and additional essays were written. The new lyric sheet is 11"x22" and has brand new imagery and extensive text. A screen print was designed for the B-side and the vinyl was delivered straight to ARGYBARGY PRINTING in Buffalo, NY where Biff from BROWN SUGAR/FERAL KID RECORDS did a fantastic job screen printing them. To finish off the package a 24"x36" poster was designed and added to add to the overall value and impact of the record. This was the most involved release ever done on THIRDxPARTY and our first done in conjunction with NOT NORMAL. We're all very proud of it. While in the process of putting together the layout an additional poster was designed and we decided to get those printed too and everyone who orders the record will get one of those as well. Comparisons are consistently made to early 80's Boston hardcore, early CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, THE REPOS, and with this release an emerging element of DEAD KENNEDYS influence.

SICK SICK BIRDS "GATES OF HOME" LP (TOXIC POP)
Baltimore's Sick Sick Birds present us with their second long-player which finds them exploring their history as a band with eleven songs that span their existence and their influences (The Clash, The Pixies, The Smiths, Jawbox...). These songs have more of a sense of urgency compared to some of their more whimsical offerings. The melancholy is still there but it's been imbued with a sense of "you lie in the bed you make". With Bobby Borte on a musical hiatus, Mike Hall has taken up primary song-writing duties and his songs speak of snippets of stories whose characters, for better or worse, have followed their own path and deal with whatever may come as best they can.
Comes with a digital download code.

W.H. WALKER "DUDS!" LP (TAKEN BY SURPRISE)
Who would have thought that a group of southern boys, now living in Portland, Oregon, would uncover the future of doo-wop boogie pop, lassoing the soul of 1950 and the hooks of 1970 and dragging those years through the dregs of punk into 2011? DUDS! is the first full length by W.H. WALKER, 10 pop filled anthems featuring a cover of BOBBY DARIN"s DREAM LOVER! Get squeeky clean and buy this record now!

BAD AMERICAN "PRETTY/UGLY" LP (BAD AMERICAN)
"After a killer 7" a while back, here's the debut 12" from Pennsylvania's Bad American. This is a great LP, and strikes me as a very eloquent distillation of a lot of different things that are happening in the HC scene right now. I hear the discordant, Void-inspired lead guitars of some of the mysterious guy HC bands, the heavy-as-shit take on grooved-out, later Black Flag shit that's propelled bands like Rational Animals, and even some of the catchy, riffy punk that has made bands like Fucked Up so popular. Basically, this is a catchy as fuck, extremely well-written and well-produced HC band that transcends so much of the microgenre bullshit that is going on today. If you like fast, 80s-inspired HC with memorable songwriting you will certainly dig this." -sorrystaterecords.com

SLICES "STILL CRUISING" LP (IRON LUNG)
Yet another Pittsburgh rock recipe has us scratching our heads and breaking our teeth. There is no way to describe this nasty little platter without avoiding the pure rock 'n' roll undercurrent that SLICES has newly adopted. It should be no surprise considering the ROT SHIT connection but there are a lot of other tastes at work here. Much like the appetizer plate "Cruising", there is a dash of hardcore, a sprig of noise-rock, two dabs of smelling soundscape and a healthy dollup of anxious animosity. But they've kicked it up a couple notches and stripped away all the fat. What we are left with is a lean, mean-mashed killer of an album. And mustard can still go fuck itself.

WALLS "THE FUTURE IS WIDE OPEN" LP (IRON LUNG)
The paranoia and unease of one man is hard to measure physically. WALLS has done this sonically so that the more timid people out there don't have to get their hands quite so dirty. They will still have to do the work though. There is always the work.  'The Future Is Wide Open' is a sarcastic bite out of society's apple. And what a rotten apple indeed. Bursting with angst and tension, this album is a relentless hardcore punk/noise rock demon-sound.  There is no release from the future. The gates are shut.

TRUE RADICAL MIRACLE "TERMITES" LP (IRON LUNG)
The current Australian underground music scene is quickly becoming something we will be talking about worldwide in the same way that "80's US hardcore" or "West Coast Power Violence" are now. There are so many awesome bands and we have had the great fortune to be a part of releasing some of them to the world.  TRM offers their second LP of jagged sunburnt noise rock in the fashion of these modern times of struggle and woe. This will not cheer you up. This may drive you further into oblivion. Best material to date.

FLECHETTE "S/T" LP (SOUND ERA)
The debut album by Richmond, Virginia's golden boys, Flechette. Imagine Drive Like Jehu and Fugazi having a few drinks and making a few irresponsible decisions, and wa-la! This 7 track LP was recorded by Tim Gault at Double 00 studio, and was pressed at 45 RPM for maximum quality.

NUDE BEACH "II" LP (NUDE BEACH)
"Brooklyn-based Nude Beach are bringing back some old school rock ‘n’ roll with their new 10-track LP.  The vintage power pop sounds on this album are delivered with a bit of a punk spirit–much in the same way a band like the Undertones did back in the day. However, Nude Beach is what’s worth focusing on, not their influences. This is mostly due to their energy in a lot of these songs, fronted by vocalist Chuck Betz who has a really great, raw delivery." - theneedledrop.com

OUT ON A LIMB "DROWNED" LP (TAKEN BY SURPRISE)
GREAT first record of this band from Chemnitz/Leipzig. Complex groovy with wave-guitar sounds and nice melodies and a lot of energetic post-punk influences like WIPERS, JOY DIVISION and THE ESTRANGED. All records include a downloadcode. 300 pressed

CAT PARTY "RHAPSODY IN BLACK" LP (SABOTAGE)
CAT PARTY exist in the delicate space between 2 genres, specifically punk and post-punk. Somebody described them as a hybrid of early JOY DIVISION and early TSOL. But CAT PARTY is much more than a shallow imitation of that 1981 sound - and they’ve managed to avoid all the cliché pitfalls that have sunk the countless other bands who’ve tried to straddle this sound. That means no lyrics about hanging out in a graveyard, no extended synth explorations and no naive drama...

DEFECT DEFECT "S/T" (EURO PRESS) LP (TAKEN BY SURPRISE)
Fighting their way out of the basement comes Portland’s DEFECT DEFECT with their best record to date! After two quality Eps and constant touring, Defect Defect hit it just perfect with their catchy-as-hell melodic punk style that hits hard with Colin’s spastic and blunt vocal style with Adam’s excellent song writing. Tracks like Stolen Ground and Post Apocalypse are perfect bookends of this argent and essential LP. Featuring ex and current members of the Observers, Autistic Youth, the Minds, Clorox Girls and the excellent Arctic Flowers this record will stick out over the pile of vinyl coming out in 2010. Do not miss out on this exciting band! US version is out on the outstanding RESIDUE RECORDS out of Chicago, IL!!

PEACE OR ANNIHILATION "FEAR CONTROL" LP (SHOGUN)
DISCHARGE / DISCLOSE worship band from Jakarta. Getting better and better. If you enjoyed the songs on the No Tomorrow comp, this is close. 12 songs, all killer. Pure raw distorted Punk Hardcore.

BLUE CROSS "MASS HYSTERIA" LP (SHOGUN)
Post punk from Canada, not afraid to get noisy and hardcore at times. They're beyond the classic Joy Division / Gang Of Four rip-off, still they manage to keep it Punk. The demo was acclaimed, now hear the full lenght. Members of GERM ATTAK.

ORGANISM "S/T" LP (HARDWARE)
Aaarrrrgghhhhhhhardcore! Be prepared for one of the most furious and ripping Hardcore records from Japan in a while! ORGANISM deliver 8 tracks of fast and breathtaking fucking Hardcore with two brutal and razor sharp sounding vocalists. If you dig LIP CREAM, NIGHTMARE or WARHEAD be sure: This powerhouse will cut more fuckin heads off than the French Revolution! Punk as fuck!

SORRY EXCUSE "LISTEN WITH PREJUDICE" 7" (THIRD PARTY)
Eight blistering tracks with the occasional yxc inspired breakdown from this KC, MO band. They just put out a new 7" on Lifeline a few months ago. My release just got reviewed in MRR/SF&L and got good reviews. Fold over cover with complete lyrics and the most X's you've ever seen on a cover.

INSURANCE RISK "HOW MUCH MORE" 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
Okay. You have known all about this scene now. But what if someone destroys your dream? You cry in pillow? If the answer is “yes”, then please do not read any further. These crazy bastards from Oslo wanna make SSD and DYS look like pussies. Finally a band that does add a different flavor to the whole revival of the 80s. Different in a way that its sound is coming from one period prior. Fucking awesome and highly recommended. The music fits the lyrics fits the sound... you got it?

DEATH OR GLORY "YOUR CHOICE" 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
Fast ripping tracks of hardcore-thrash drenched in pure adrenalised mayhem. Not too dissimilar to AF's United Blood ep. There are enough danceable moshparts thrown in and fans of early NYHC will absolutely dig this!!!!

DAMAGE CONTROL "CAN'T KEEP US DOWN" 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
Some might say that Damage Control continued where Onward and Sportswear left off. In other words - keeping the spirit of Oslo City Hardcore alive, On this record Damage Control plays a nice mix of  Dag Nasty inspired stuff mixed in with not just a little hint of Chain Of Strength. All this, sweetly rounded off with a healthy dose of those hard, danceable moshparts that we all love. There's enough emotion and melody in these tunes to make this record both unique and exciting. May the band rest in peace.

OVER THE LINE "DEMO" 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
It´s taken a while for thses guys to put this out... but it was worth the wait. East coast jocks playing core, you know what I mean? Tight songs with speed and melody... catchyness if ya will. This thing came out at the right time and proves once again that not all the hoody wearing hc kids among us are cry babies.

GET THE MOST "COMMON GOALS" 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
This is a action platter! Get The Most plays fast-paced hardcore with a sincere and passionate message. There is a healty dose of melody in the songs reminiscence of Chain and Insted with some East Coast elements thrown in. The superb songwriting and powerful sound makes them special and truly unique. If you look for a straight edge band which has something to say look no further!

GET THE MOST "MOMENT IN TIME" 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
Somewhere beyond the formalized spectrum there comes a band like Get The Most who strives for more than the usual. Blistering "youth crewish" hardcore, mosh parts in between, passionate lyrics and a slick layout. What more can you ask for?! The future is now; get on it.

ONE VOICE "BREAK FREE" 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
Listen to One Voice is an experience. The band is getting in a new territory of sheer power and aggression. Pushing old boundaries, establishing new limits. Speed, anger and commitment seems the theme of this band and One Voice knows how to pull good hardcore songs. Essential listening for 2007.

COMMITMENT CREW "HISINGEN" 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
Hardcore became somewhat a synonym of no-soul, lackluster, over commercialization. But then there comes a band like Commitment Crew who is going back to basic. This band is in its purest form the essence of hardcore: simple and aggressive and in addition with some raw oi influences. A great mixture for sure!

SPORTSWEAR "IT RUNS DEEP" 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
This is the real deal for all the boyscouts with the crew cuts. Having changed absolutely nothing in their tactic this release puts them on the throne of 1, 2, 3, 4.... go. Once again they teach you why they are better than you. Nothing more can be said.

MAINSTRIKE "S/T" 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
This baby was actually two years in the making, but it was well worth the wait. Mainstrike’s farewell record is a mature one, yet the band's roots premeating it all: pure hardcore. Complete with plenty of singalong-parts and those deadly moshes. As always produced and recorded by Menna Bakker at his Bunst Studios. A very dignified good-bye from a band that is now perhaps gone, but certainly never forgotten.

TRUE BLUE "THE ICE" 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
Breaking the mold and doing the do. These fuckers are coming thru with some heavy shit right there. Having learned their lessons in the 80s they bust out that shit in the 90s. Dark and heavy stuff that lives next door to the icemen and bad brains. Flexing with lyrics about life and not about fantasy they let you know what time it is. The fat production is boosting them into the major league of hc and the layout shows you the streets they came from. You better buy them shits.

MAINSTRIKE "TIMES STILL HERE" 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
Apart from bands like Civ or Floorpunch these dudes were bringing it back big time. Even before this record saw the light of day people were going crazy over this band. Holding up the mirror of the 88-style they put their own  little bits to it which makes this first record an example of how it should be done. Aggressive voice parted ways with high-pitched guitars and an awesome rythm section. Sing-alongs here and there and you get the picture. on the live pics in the layout you can see what they want you to do...

STAND OFF "WORTHLESS" 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
Backed up by the British Empire and a comic cartoon. Very good and ambitionate songs writing here. for a long time England has been known for bands coming from the grind-side of hc. With Stand Off and some others the face of british hc has changed a lot because they captured the energy of bands like Discharge or Intense Degree but came from a more youth crew-kinda school. The mix can be heard on this seven inch. Queen mum wouldn´t have turned 100 this year without this record...

VOICE OF A GENERATION #2 ZINE W/ SPORTSWEAR 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
Voice Of A Generation again dives into the great past, perhaps even more than the previous issue. It has a long and inspiring interview with PETER AMDAM of Onward and Sportswear fame – 14 pages on it’s own. It is intense, personal, and with quite a few good stories. In addition there are two columns, crucial reviews and tons of classic pictures: Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Embrace, So Much Hate to name just a few. The entire SPORTSWEAR demo was re-mastered and comes as a 7” supplement for the fanzine. 28 pages full of melancholy and twisted humour.

VOICE OF A GENERATION #3 ZINE W/ ABUSIVE ACTION 7" (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
The third issue - after a long delay - is out now! It includes an interview with Rob, the singer of the defunct band Abusive Action and a piece about Jay Adams, the legendary Dogtown Skater. Arne Haabeth wrote about the Bold Show he attended in Amsterdam and his impression about Hardcore and its generation in general. You'll find book- and record-reviews as usual and tons of photos of: Marginal Man, Deathwish, Jerry's Kids, Siege, Bad Brains, COC, AOF, ManLiftingBanner, Know Your Enemy, Mainstrike, Pandemonium und Cro-Mags. 20 pages plus the remastered Abusive Action demo on 7".

RISE AND FALL "DECEIVER" 7" (DEATHWISH)
"Deceiver" b/w "Sinking In Sin" is a limited 7"EP from Rise And Fall that hints at their future, while also honoring their H8000 past. "Deceiver" is taken from their highly anticipated new album, "Faith", due out in early 2012. Already a staple of their live sets, "Deceiver" is an absolute ripper of a song that combines the strongest songwriting elements of their "Into Oblivion" and "Our Circle Is Vicious" albums. Frantic drumming, discordant guitars, and passionate vocal screams all build into an awe-inducing wall of sound. If "Deceiver" is any indication of what is on the horizon, Rise And Fall's "Faith" will be a serious contender for one of the best hardcore albums of 2012.  The B-Side of this 7"EP features "Sinking In Sin", Rise And Fall's tribute to Belgian Hardcore legends, Congress, and the H8000 Scene as a whole. In their interpretation of the song, Rise And Fall create a dark and textural atmosphere that compliments the powerful metallic hardcore foundation that Congress laid before them. They are even joined by former members of Congress and Liar, bringing the two generations of Belgian Hardcore together, as one vicious circle.

VICTIMS "LIES LIES LIES" 7" (DEATHWISH)
Released in conjunction with their upcoming U.S. tour, this release is exclusively available thru the DW Estore and direct from the band. No retail version will be made available.  Sweden's Victims are proud to announce the release of "Lies Lies Lies", a brand new 2 song 7"EP on Deathwish. Fresh on the heels of their celebrated full length, "Killer", Victims once again take aim with their trademark punk/crust weaponry and fire into willing ears. Recorded at Studio Overlook and featuring artwork from J. Bannon (Converge), this release features two hook-laden songs embrace the band's contemporary d-beat leanings even more than previous efforts. The end result is an infectious two song blur, that shows this already classic band sharpening their skill-set while still sonically evolving. Firmly cementing their place among the leaders, not followers, of the true underground punk/hardcore community.

VICTIMS / KYLESA - SPLIT 7" (DEATHWISH)
This classic split 7"EP was previously released in Europe by our friends at La Familia. This revamped Deathwish version is a brand new pressing and features killer new artwork and design by Ryan Patterson (Coliseum).  Savannah, Georgia's Kylesa offer a monster of a song in "Pain And Suffering", a sample heavy punk/doom jam that calls to the band member's deep roots within the punk/crust community. Since the recording, Kylesa have gone on to release the "Spiral Shadow" album, which showed the band moving in a more progressive influenced direction. On the B-Side, Sweden's punk/hardcore mainstays Victims offer up "On Our Knees", a buzzsaw of a song recorded by Fred Estby (Dismember, etc) and Nicke Andersson (Entombed, Hellacopters, etc). And if that's not enough, Victims also plow through a version of the Kylesa's "Descend Within", the most infectious song from Kylesa's self titled album on Prank.

DISFEAR / DOOMRIDERS - SPLIT 7" (DEATHWISH)
With Doomriders, we get a glimpse into their progression since "Black Thunder" in the soon to be classic, "Crooked Path". Easily one of their best songs to date, "Crooked Path" pounds forth with grit, melody, and emotion unlike anything else out there today.  On the other side, Disfear unleash the hook laden "Fear And Trembling". This is their first effort since their classic "Live The Storm" album was released by their current label home, Relapse Records. "Fear And Trembling" is a stellar song that expands the boundaries of the D-Beat world that Disfear dominate to this day.

RISE AND FALL "INTO OBLIVION" LP (DEATHWISH)
From the blackened depths of the soul rises one of hardcore/punk's best kept secrets, Rise And Fall. Possessed with an earth shaking heaviness and alarming no frills punk urgency, Rise And Fall represent the next chapter of true hardcore/punk greatness. Wielding the same gore soaked axe that visionaries Integrity, Cursed, Ringworm, and Tragedy also clench in their bloodstained hands.  Recorded at CCR Studios and mixed by Kurt Ballou (Converge) at Godcity Studios, "Into Oblivion" captures the kind of all encompassing emotional darkness and white knuckle violence that few bands ever artistically achieve. From the unbridled ferocity of "Forked Tongues" to the sonic desolation of "Ruins", the album is truly jaw dropping. Re-igniting even the most jaded of hardcore/punk hearts with it's unforgettable musical presence and power.

HORROR SHOW "NOTES FROM THE NIGHT THAT NEVER ENDED" LP (DEATHWISH)
"Notes From The Night That Never Ended" is the final vinyl collection of all existing Horror Show recordings.  "We (Horror Show) started playing around 2000. It was a good time cause' Josh, Matt, and myself finally started having a knack for writing music together after playing in a couple punk and hardcore bands… We really enjoyed the thought of leaving Philadelphia as often as possible and touring was always our ultimate goal. As time marched on I found myself in a bit of trouble and inevitably we would have to put Horror Show on hold for 2 years. It was tough to leave behind something that meant so much to us and our friends and those years would prove to be more unforgiving than any of us would have ever thought. With the death of Dan (Stone) and Josh (Tshirlig), within just two years of each other, too many legs had been kicked off of our table and we put the band to rest… Yeah, I think it will always be meaningful to all of our friends. It will always remind me of what unique goodness can come out of something that sometimes, is not so good."

108 "18.61" LP (DEATHWISH)
Recorded over a frigid weekend in Boston, MA in the analog domain of Alex Garcia Rivera (ex-Give Up The Ghost) and later mixed by Kurt Ballou (Converge), 108 have returned with their most electrifying and intense album to date, "18.61". From the first tension filled notes struck in "God Talk", it's apparent that a spiritual restlessness and awareness continues to writhe in the collective consciousness of 108 which is an attribute that has set them apart from the rest of the musical world since their inception. From there "18.61" pounds forth with the upmost intensity. Standout track "Crescent Moon" races at manic speed before crashing in on itself in one of 108's heaviest moments ever. Title track "18.61", a moving and brooding song that is as unforgettable as they come, combines all of the unique musical qualities that make up 108. The gritty "Reduced" showcases new drummer Mike Justian (Trap Them, Unearth, etc.) as the new heart at the center of the 108 machine, rhythmically pushing the envelope with his punishing percussive power. Though the aforementioned songs are electric in every way, it's in some of the more daring tracks that "18.61" truly starts to really shine. "Mannequins" and "Forever Is Destroyed", for example, pick up where classics Black Flag and Rollins Band left off, taking frantic and unpredictable sonic turns that only a band like 108 could navigate. All of this makes "18.61" yet another stunning album from a band that continues to write their own destiny as one the most important and influential hardcore/punk bands in existence today.

BITTER END "GUILTY AS CHARGED" LP (DEATHWISH)
Bitter End are an intense hardcore band from San Antonio, Texas, influenced by the metallic New York Hardcore bands of the late 80's and early 90's. With their exhaustive touring and their debut 7"EP "Mind In Chains", they established themselves as a brute force in the hardcore community. Refining their mid-tempo power displayed in their previous release, Bitter End took it to the next level with their debut album, "Climate of Fear". Tight production accentuated song after song, creating a controlled chaos few bands could ever achieve. They soon after followed this album with a three song "Self Titled" 7"EP. A release that displayed a band evolving and refining their technical ability and song writing power.  2010 brings us "Guilty As Charged", the pummeling new album from Bitter End. With all the makings of a contemporary hardcore classic, "Guilty As Charged" bruises and batters with dynamic riffing, potent vocals/lyrics, and bone shaking breakdowns. Songs like "Unjust" and the title track "Guilty As Charged" showcase this hybrid brand of hard hitting thrash and hardcore. A tried and tested formula that Bitter End not only embrace, but continue to improve upon in their own vicious way.

RESURRECTION "I AM NOT: THE DISCOGRAPHY" 2xLP (DEATHWISH)
Within months the sound and ideologies that dominated the hardcore scene from the mid 80's into early 1990 had literally collapsed as if an entire scene had "grown up" and gave in all at once. Looking back it should have come as no surprise. A scene that was predicated on being an individual had become as pathetically uniform as the world it claimed to disdain. It died because it no longer had a pulse.  In early 1991 a few friends decided that sound, feeling, and emotion was more important than mere memories, and that ideals didn't need to be confined to the sounds of the past. There were no goals, no strategies, and no need to over think what could be. With that, a band was formed, and Ressurection set out to play as loud and as often as possible.  Musical influences? Black Flag, Bl’ast, Absolution, whatever. A message? At times straight edge, at times political and at times just hurt kids. Simply put the idea was to say what you feel and feel what you say, no limitation. Ressurection was noise and feeling.  Between 1991 and 1994 Ressurection played well over a hundred shows around the US while releasing 2 EP's, an LP, and a few tracks on various compilations. The beauty of Ressurection? The sole focus on the energy of the live setting. The downside? That same sole focus on the energy of the live setting. When recording the "I Refuse" LP the band was in heavy debt from touring and used all of the recording budget to pay off their debts leaving $200 to record, mix, and master the record, and of course, buy something to eat during this process. The result was not pretty. Over the years this remained a regret shared by the members of the band.  In 2007, the idea of a discography was brought up to the fine people at Deathwish. Over a four year period, the recording reels were dusted off and Kurt Ballou completed a remix at Godcity Studios. Soon after, additional tracks were collected and the result is the 21 track "I Am Not: The Discography", containing remixes of all three records, the band's first recorded song, as well as their classic live set from KXLU in its entirety.

ENDPOINT "IN A TIME OF HATE" LP (SIMBA)
Formed in 1987, Louisville’s ENDPOINT took hardcore in unique directions as they utilized melody, introspective and sometimes depressed lyrics, and progressive, indie rock-leaning song structures. Along with bands like FALLING FORWARD, LINCOLN, SPLIT LIP, and ASHES, they helped lead a movement of like-minded melodic nineties hardcore bands that felt hardcore need not rely on metal riffs or mosh parts to be intense and emotional. As one of the most innovative bands in the hardcore scene of the nineties, they addressed issues such as sexual violence and prejudice in a way that no one ever had. They created a trend in hardcore that called for one’s deepest and most personal emotions to be present and exorcised while playing, prompting equally turbulent responses from audiences.

SENSE FIELD "KILLED FOR LESS" LP (REVELATION)
The first full-length release from one of the most incredible groups out of Los Angeles, CA. Fourteen powerful songs that take music to a new level of dynamics. Clean production. Now available again on colored vinyl. Vinyl version includes free digital download of this record.

FARSIDE "RIGGED" LP (REVELATION)
Rigged is Farside's incredible second LP. So Cal's finest in melodic punk. Great songs, incredible harmony, essential packaging. Possibly the best record ever. Now available again on colored vinyl. Vinyl version includes free digital download of this record.

COMMITMENT CREW "WHAT ARE YOU" LP (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
Great hardcore from Gothenborg which sounds a lot like early Boston hardcore but with a distinct empowering on its own. Raw, aggressive vocals and strong musicianship. A steamroller for sure, cool artwork to boot.

MANLIFTINGBANNER "THE REVOLUTION CONTINUES" 2xLP (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
While so many on the left cried defeat and dropped their so-called 'old-fashioned' principles, ManLiftingBanner felt an urge to go against the grain. Included in this record you will find the entire "Myth Of Freedom" 7", "Ten Inches That Shook The World" 10", one compilation track and eight newly recorded songs from 2011. The new songs are done in the traditional hardcore punk style only ManLiftingBanner can pull off. Expect nothing less.29 songs for a new generation, but also for those who where with the band back in the days and for those who kept the revolutionary fire inside and outside of the hardcore punk community strong and burning. Last but not least, after almost 20 years all the ManLiftingBanner songs are finally available on vinyl again. Moreover, the record comes with a huge, fully coloured 12-page booklet with photos, quotes, all the lyrics and a big-sized A2 poster for all your propaganda needs.

BACCHUS "S/T" LP (CAVITY)
Bacchus is from Ireland and they play fast, crusty hardcore with some good measure of crushing heavy/doomy parts mixed in. There's a good amount of bands playing this style, but they definitely stand apart with their own sound on this record. 300 pressed on white vinyl, insert with lyrics and also download card included. “The long-awaited debut LP from Ireland’s Bacchus is a tense and hulking assault of millenium-era crust. With Elements of From Ashes Rise and Kylesa forming a raging, spiralling monument of caustic desperation, this is never reductive. Refusing to take the easy option and reveling in a staunchly progressive approach to hardcore, this is like Neurosis raised on amphetamine and tempered with weed”

DUNEBUGGY "1990's COLLECTION" LP (LITTLE BLACK CLOUD)
"Dunebuggy were a 90's indie rock band who hailed from Hoboken NJ and featured one future Dahlia Seed member Jon Procopio on guitar and vocals and also featured some guest vocals from Tracy Wilson who would later join Dahlia Seed as their full time vocalist.  Dunebuggy play quirky yet infection indie pop with hooks that will get stuck in your head for days, just give the albums opening track "Humdinger" a listen and I promise that you will have the chorus stuck in your head all day long. If you are a fan of the Lemonheads, Pavement or Archers of Loaf etc then I would urge you to give this record a listen and buy one before they are gone as they're limited to a meager run of 100 copies on white vinyl." - unitedbyrocketscience.blogspot.com - LP comes with a deadstock copy of a DUNEBUGGY / MOPED 7"!

SLEEPER CELL "S/T" LP (PARTNERS IN CRIME)
From the ashes of BALANCE OF TERROR, Boston's SLEEPER CELL continue on with their efforts to play the best Tennessee-influenced hardcore possible. This offering is the band's debut full-length and is 12 songs of DEATHREAT and NO PARADE-styled hardcore-punk.

NO PARADE "CEASELESS FIRE" LP (PARTNERS IN CRIME)
Fifteen tracks of powerful but catchy hardcore from No Parade. The style is similar to From Ashes Rise or Tragedy, and in fact No Parade features members of From Ashes Rise. The music is harsh and hard hitting with screamed vocals, but the melodic underbelly keeps the songs memorable and almost pleasant. Even better than their debut EP.

BALANCE OF TERROR "A BETTER TOMORROW" LP (PARALOGY)
Hailing from New York City, Balance of Terror surges forth with 15 tracks of fast, catchy, and snotty hardcore tracks; think Deathreat or Talk Is Poison or No Parade. Balance of Terror features Stan from Deathreat on vocals and guitar. A really good record.

SLOWMOTIONS, THE "DIAL ELEVEN" LP (PARTNERS IN CRIME)
The Slow Motions are from japan. Garagey tuneful fucked up punk rock played by Japanese hardcore veterans. Get these songs stuck in your head and they will not go away. Slowmotions are a longtime running punk band from TOKYO... featuring ex and current members of EVANCE, RAWNECK, SHOCK, HAT TRICKERS, LIBERATE, ACID, STICKS IN THROAT, BLAZE, RUGS CONCLUDE, ORDER, ZIKKEN, RANGE and DIRTY HOSPITAL... etc, etc. This LP features all five of their out of print singles on HG FACT.

BILLY BAO "MAY 08" LP (PARTS UNKNOWN)
“The Nigerian monstrosity that is BILLY BAO returns in agony. Bleeding. Pointing a colossal black finger at global capitalism, regular music, non-music and anti-music, at the food crisis of 2008, the moribund spirit of 1968, and especially at you, the record buyer, who maybe ‘really dug’ his first LP, Dialectics of Shit, and will come back for more, or perhaps ‘heard a lot about him’ and his bandmate MATTIN in the ‘blogosphere’ or even in print media (ooh!) (whatever that is), and are ‘curious to finally h+ear his music’ because you find the stories ‘interesting’ and this is even heavier and more f'ed up than The Brainbombs at their heaviest  right? This LP is so angry the songs don't even have titles. Some of 'em are really long, some are really short, but they're all pretty goddamn infuriating, as they oughta be. May '08 is actually surprising, because where do you go after those first four platters, honestly? Well you make a record that's somehow noisier than all of those, more tweaked and fucked-with and digitally distorted than anything before it, crammed with grotesque and sublime samples from the noise of yesteryear: Nono, Kuti, Whitehouse, Brainbombs, and Billy, Billy Bao. It should be pretty goddamn clear to you why you want and need to purchase this record.”

STRAIGHT TO HELL / BALANCE OF TERROR - SPLIT 7" (PARTNERS IN CRIME)
Straight to Hell are from Rhode Island, while Balance of Terror are from New York. Together they create a vicious and great sounding split 7" that will certainly appeal to all those folks that are into the Talk Is Poison, Deathreat, From Ashes Rise, No Parade camp of hardcore. Well done musically, and packaged in a black and white cover of course.

NO TIME LEFT "ZERO EFFORT SOLUTION" 7" (UNDERESTIMATED)
Ex & current members of No Reason, Halfmast, They Live, and Project Grizzly hit you with seven songs of relentless old style hardcore fused with bulldozer '70s riffing a la Motorhead.

HISTORY OF THE HAWK "OCEAN" 7" (SPEEDOWAX)
Hailing from stourbridge west midlands u.k hoth have attracted attension from topshelf, epitaph in their short six months of being a band playing hardcore punk in the vein of some girls, ruination with a knod to early dischord, this is their debut ep with art by scott c bentz before their upcoming split 7" with Retox (ex unbroken/the locust)

TRURO "PROUD TO DISAGREE" 7" (SPEEDOWAX)

MALL'D TO DEATH "THE PROCESS OF REACHING OUT" 7" (IT'S ALIVE)
Mall'd To Death is what happens when you take that Minneapolis punk rock Dillinger-core sound, add some Jeff Ott-esque vocal growlings, mix in some mid-nineties melodic punk sound of the EpiFat variety (complete with the occasional ska-punk breakdown!), put together some meaningful songs about life and personal politics, follow those up with some silly songs about important shit like video games and graffiti, and then round it all out with some of that good ol' J Church! It's like Mall Punk if "Mall Punk" meant a little bit of everything under one roof. I was totally taken by surprise and blown away by Mall'd To Death's debut full length Can't Make A Living released last year on CD by GC Records on and then on vinyl earlier this year by Bitter Melody Records. The Process Of Reaching Out is Mall'd To Death's second release of what I hope to be many more to come. I don't know of another band out there that really sounds anything like these guys. It's fresh; and in that way reminds me of when I was first discovering punk rock.

KILLED BY 7 INCH - V/A - COMPILATION LP (REDRUM)
Comp containing the first five "Killed by 7 inch" 7"s on one LP. 20 tracks!

OUTCASTS, THE "SELF CONSCIOUS OVER YOU" LP (BAGSNATCHER)
Recorded over 5 days at Wizard Studios in Belfast in April 1979 and released 3 months later, the album featured sax on 3 of the tracks and was a little poppier than previous recordings, though a cheap production helped maintain the punk feel of their earlier work. One of Northern Ireland's best punk bands! REISSUE.

DECLINO " COME UNA PROMESSA" LP (AGIPUNK)
The vinyl press of the cd out on SOA records this is an official reissue of the torino hc legend! Here you can find a selection of their discography that consisted on the legendary tape split with Negazione, a 7" and 12". this is 100% italian hc from the 80ies finally on vinyl!

DEMON'S CLAWS "DEFROSTING OF" LP (IN THE RED)
For any fan of real rock 'n' roll, it would be a goddamn shame to sleep on the raucous and inebriating revelry of Montreal's most delirious band, The Demon's Claws. These guys have been pounding out crazed rock slop since 2004, in which time they've toured endlessly and released two full-length albums and countless singles and 12-inches. Now the band has finally followed up their stunning 2007 album, Satan's Little Pet Pig, with The Defrosting Of... For legal reasons, the title has to be incomplete. We can only say that it's a reference to a very big name in the world of animation, long rumored to be cryogenically frozen. The Demon's Claws play roots-soaked music so ramshackle and loose that it sounds as if it could fall apart at any second, yet hangs together perfectly. Part Gun Club, part Back from the Grave, part lo-fi distorted crunch, part young Mick Jagger with a mouth full of pills, all delivered with a weird, backwoods creepiness. Stepping up his countrified roots on this outing, frontman Jeff Clarke displays a gift for writing incredibly catchy hillbilly stomp unrivaled today. The guy is the real deal. Self-described "liars and scumbags" and sweaty and belligerent by nature, Demon's Claws are one of the most dynamic combos to take the filthy route directly to your brain. The Defrosting Of... solidifies their earnest ambition to stomp their Americana-tinged blues-punk death trip into submission. "Their music reminds me of when I used to visit an old cabin in Northern Ontario and take mushrooms and drink tons of Labatt's and go night fishing. This is what we should've been playing instead of Sabbath." --Terminal Boredom

TIMMY'S ORGANISM "RISE OF THE GREEN GORILLA" LP (SACRED BONES)
The debut solo on Sacred Bones Records, Timmy’s Organism is Timmy Vulgar’s organism of sound. Vulgar is of course the Human Eye front-man, erstwhile Clone Defect, and most recently a 2010 Kresge Artist Fellow which he was awarded for a “creative vision and commitment to excellence within a wide range of artistic disciplines.” Exploring a wide spectrum of the tree of rock n’ roll, heavy nuclear guitar rock, quick punk space glam, drunken late night white-man blues, instrumental joys of sadness, and don’t forget a little comedy rock. The lyrics are interesting and colorful, painting a picture, or a silent film in the listeners cerebellum. What is a gorilla symbolically? A peaceful creature living in a thick green jungle. He is king in his layer. Roaring like an angry guitar pounding on his chest like a primal drum. Chewing vegetation and leading his furry family to freedom! This is the Rise of the Green Gorilla!

SURFER BLOOD "TAROT CLASSICS" LP (KANINE)
"Tarot Classics is a six-song EP from the most awesomely-named band Surfer Blood. Despite being about half the length of a normal album (you know, in terms of songs), this is quite possibly one of the finest pieces of music I have ever heard, even better than some full-length albums out there.  Even to describe Surfer Blood is to do them an injustice. I guess I could start by saying that despite the word “blood” being in the name, they are not anywhere near what you’d expect them to be, in terms of a metal or hardcore band. It’s kind of like the way people think of what Murder by Death will sound like before they even hear their music. So, can you surf to this music? You could, but it’s not really surf-rock, per se. It has an indie dance-beat-type of feel to it at times, kind of like Ted Leo, but it really sounds nothing like that. It has great harmony that makes it almost seem like pop, but it is in no way catchy.  Essentially, these six songs are very easy on the ears. I dare you to put this album on and not fall in love with it from the first note, with a love that will linger until the very last note when you reach for that Play button to hear it all again. I almost feel like there’s some kind of subliminal messaging in the background because of how addictive this can be, even though you’re not able to instantly sing along to it."

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #348 - MAY 2012
In MRR #348, we say farewell to Holland’s legendary SEEIN RED, architects of the European HC scene in various forms for close to thirty years, who played their last show in March. But that’s not all! We celebrate May 2012 with a hilarious and informative interview with noize terrorists of note DISORDER, true legends of UK82, some Greek hardcore courtesy of ANTIMOB, and some Greek garage psyche punk from ACID BABY JESUS. We’ve got rad Finnish punks LEBAKKO, the out-there sounds of APACHE DROPOUT, and Heather from San Francisco’s hook-laden WAX IDOLS in conversation with Lorna from early Chicago post-punkers DA. Shall we go on? There’s Brazilian HC ragers DEFY, SF goth punks CRIMSON SCARLET, Australia’s LEPROSY  with their modern take on UK82, some mutated brainwave hardcore from Southern California’s NASA SPACE UNIVERSE, a look at the record label Konton Crasher, and a continuation of our one-page interviews with classic Italian HC bands, this time with NEGAZIONE. All o’ that plus the usual array of columns, news, and the most extensive punk rock review section in print. Read it and weep!

BROTHERHOOD "AS THICK AS BLOOD" CD (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
What can be witnessed on this record was beyond imagination when the band came out. In the vein of the mid- to late 80´s straight edge bands of the east coast They added some melody and catchyness to the songs which make them outstanding. The lyrical contents seems to be on an average tip but comes across in a very youthful and charming way that you can´t help but sing along to these anthems. With this record they paved the way for a lot of young bands from the west coast.

MANLIFTINGBANNER "WE WILL NOT REST" CD (CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
OK, for those of you, who have never heard of this name, i suggest you better stop reading and get the fuck out of my system. MLB has been THE euro commie-straight edge band! There´s no doubt about it. Numbers of bands tried to live up to the standards set by them. But numbers of bands have failed. This is the original dope shit! The CD compiles all of their material to give those a chance who weren´t quick enough to get a grasp on the now sold out vinyl versions. Heavily on the hi-speed tip, they came from the school of Lärm, DRI, Straight Ahead and their likes. More BPM than you could ever count! Lyrically they have shown us what´s up with Lenin, Trotzky and the rest of the pack. HC the way it was meant to be. Something for the stomach and the brain. Get this while you can!

FAGETTES - VOLUMES 1 AND 2 CASSETTE TAPE
"This is one of the best garage albums (collecting the Fagettes' first two releases ) I've heard this year, maybe the best. The Fagettes know their musical history, writes tight songs, and have a sense of wit all too rare with most rock bands at all times, but especially now (irony ain't wit-Best Coast, take a note).  Like many garage bands, The Fagettes deal in simple songs about boys and girls and love and fun. But not so simple, not so fun, actually; enter "Catholic riffraff and the Allston Amazon." Lightly strummed guitar and a massive, 60s big beat drum sound accompany this touching tale of young lesbian love. The song also showcases the dual male-female vocals that do a lot to flesh out the song structures. Farfisa/church organ interlude and all, this is sorta the garage pop, ex-/anti-Catholic version of Bikini Kill's "Rebel Grrrl" . "Mystery Pills" is an amusing tale of pill-poppin' fun on the run, with a shuffle beat and tastefully terse harmonica riff riff built around guitar haze. Lyrically, it's pretty much how I spent a lot of the past week: so fucked up and downed out that I couldn't even talk, let alone to the pretty girl across the room.' - drugpunk.blogspot.com

S.H.I.T. - DEMO TAPE
Toronto is seriously killing it this year, as always. S.H.I.T. are catchy, in-your-face, ruckus hardcore punk from the usual suspects from Urban Blight, Violent Future and others. From what I hear the demo was recorded by none other than the almighty Jonah Falco. Seriously, the riff to "Feeding Time" is already stuck in my head. Fuck this is good.

KENT STATE / DOLEFUL LIONS - SPLIT TAPE
Kent State started as a side project of Deep Sleep guitarist Nick and his girlfriend Emma. Last year they released three eps; Spahn Ranch, Challenger and Walk Through Walls displaying their love of short songs, Guided By Voices, lo-fi psychedelic garage punk and noisy 90's shoegaze. Kent State recently moved to LA and recruited dudes from Knife Fight, Tear It Up and the Love Below to assemble a live band.Doleful Lions are  highly prolific lo-fi indie pop from Chicago and have been releasing records since the late 90's.  On this release Kent State do a Charles Manson cover and two originals featuring their trademark psychedelic death pop sound. DL bring two new originals to the table that are easily some of the best songs of their career!

KENT STATE / AIRLOOMS - SPLIT TAPE
Kent State started as a side project of Deep Sleep guitarist Nick and his girlfriend Emma. Last year they released three eps; Spahn Ranch, Challenger and Walk Through Walls, dispaying their love of short songs, Guided By Voices, lo-fi psychedelic garage punk and noisy 90's shoegaze. Kent State recently moved to LA and recruited dudes from Knife Fight, Tear It Up and the Love Below to assemble a live band.  Airlooms is a one man band from Ohio playing tunes that sound like a cross between early GBV and Replacements/Westerberg solo stuff.  On this release Kent State do a Guided By Voices deep cut b-side and two originals of their brand of psychedelic death pop. Airlooms brings two new originals to the table that are catchy as hell. You'll be flipping this thing over and over.

KENT STATE / AT THE HEART OF THE WORLD - SPLIT TAPE
Kent State started as a side project of Deep Sleep guitarist Nick and his girlfriend Emma. Last year they released three eps; Spahn Ranch, Challenger and Walk Through Walls, displaying their love of short songs, Guided By Voices, lo-fi psychedelic garage punk and noisy 90's shoegaze. Kent State recently moved to LA and recruited dudes from Knife Fight, Tear It Up and the Love Below to assemble a live band.  At The Heart of the World is Danny from Ruiner playing harsh noise/doom metal in the ugliest of ways, not unlike Purient, Godflesh, etc.
On this release Kent State do two originals and cover a Charles Manson song in their brand of psychedelic death pop. At The Heart of the World brings you noisy hate fueled anthems that could be the soundtrack to your end of the world scenario.

GUILT, THE - "WORTH NOTHING" TAPE
Second and final cassette from this now-defunct HC band from Washington, DC. This time around the band has more of a straightforward HC vibe than the slightly melodic, Swiz-influenced vibe of their earlier demo. The band have only gotten meaner and more hateful, so of course this rules!

KILL YOUR BRAIN - II TAPE
Four songs of fuzzed out, space cruising, guitar swirling punk out of Harrisonburg, VA.  Check this shit out if you're into Annihilation Time or Comets on Fire.

MISLED YOUTH - DEMO TAPE
Misled Youth are part of a new wave of younger, fast, raw hardcore punk bands coming out of DC right now. This sounds like a cross between early 2000's hardcore a la A-TEAM or RIGHT BRIGADE and and classic, anthemic youth crew. This is a solid demo of a band to watch out for in the future.
