Only one more month left of summer ... while I'm a bit bummed to
see it go, I can't say I'm too big of a fan of hot weather! Stoked for
fall, but trying to make the most of the summer before it's over.
Anyways, I have a pretty killer webstore update this week and I'll get
to that in a second, but let me get you up to speed on some GRAVE
MISTAKE release news.
First off, the NIGHT BIRDS "Fresh Kills Vol. 1" LP and the SCHOOL JERKS
"S/T" LP are both RIGHT around the corner ... the NIGHT BIRDS record is
in house and the SCHOOL JERKS vinyl and inserts are here, just waiting
on the covers. I'm hoping to have them up for order in a few weeks, so
keep your eyes peeled. NIGHT BIRDS have been selling copies of "Fresh
Kills" on their West Coast tour, and SCHOOL JERKS should have a special
version for their record release show on Monday, August 6th (
) ... we are hoping have these available to the masses shortly after!
Next in line will be THE SHIRKS 12" (sent this one off last week) and
hopefully the 86 MENTALITY "Goin' Nowhere Fast" LP (hope to send it off
next week). We will also be co-releasing a repress of the BIG EYES
"Demo" 7" with EVIL WEEVIL RECORDS (who originally released this on
vinyl). Hope to have those back in circulation by this Fall as well!
Still on the books for 2012 are new LPs from BRAIN F≠ and SECTARIAN
VIOLENCE, plus reissues of THE THUMBS "All Lesser Devils" record and
STRIKING DISTANCE "March to your Grave" LP ... not much news on those
just yet but hopefully soon!
Also, in case you missed it in the last update, I received the remainder of the limited WHITE VINYL of the
from the pressing plant, and I still have a few in the webstore so grab
that one if you haven't yet! Hopefully if things go as planned, the
next email update you receive from me will be announcing that the two
new releases are available for order, but please sit tight for now! I
just put a bunch of awesome new stuff in the webstore to tide you over
until then ...
Check the full list with descriptions and restocks below, and as always thanks for reading!!

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE FOR 08.03.2012:
CRAZY SPIRIT "S/T" LP (TOXIC STATE)
"Here is the long awaited debut LP from our beloved Crazy Spirit. Fans
will not be disappointed, haters will hate. There are no new tricks here
and the band does what it does well better than it has before, pulling
out some of the most earsplitting, wonderful riffs it has busted out to
date. The album flows as naturally as the trademark gallop carries you
from the muddy, audio-sample in its beginning, to moody end. While the
album sounds worlds better than previously recorded material it
maintains all of the essentials - strictly 8-track recordings, same
gremlin, same round bass tone, and so on.Really excellent songs that
successfully take the writhing CS sound and serve up stuck-in your brain
hooks." -

CRAZY SPIRIT " DEMO 09" LP (TOXIC STATE)
US pressing of the CRAZY SPIRIT DEMO 12" which was first pressed on
Quality Control out of the UK. A screenprinted mailer and hand stamped
inner sleeve conceal the secrets within. .Spawned from the concrete,
steel, garbage fluid and tar of New York City natives, Crazy Spirit
presents not a demonstration of a series of concise ruminations on life,
that seemingly impose order with beginnings and ends, but a constantly
mutating chimera, the monotonous screaming of millions of parasitical
beings crawling through the many layers of this urban nest they have
built to enslave themselves in. These are variations on a theme by urban
strigils scraping away the extraneous chatter to identify repetitive
patterns and weave them together. Hear yea the booming Crisis marching
of a cool death or the sarcastic melody of snakes all compered by a Paul
Mahernesque hyena.
HANK WOOD AND THE HAMMERHEADS "GO HOME" LP (TOXIC STATE)
"While there are a plethora of bands in NYC that make it so very easy to
just attach oneself to (through either their approachable personalities
or catchy tunes), there are almost as many that make it just as
difficult. Then, to take things to a whole new level of distaste,
there's Hank Wood & the Hammerheads. No other NYC band commands such
vitriol outside of the city (not in NYC, though, since no one in the
city seems to have anything resembling ideals if it compromises their
cool points) due to some less-than-tasteful antics and attitude, and no
other band revels in it more. As such, it (barely) pains me to admit
that this is ranks just behind the new Dawn Of Humans 7" as the best
record out of the new batch of Toxic State records and, frankly, is one
of the best NYC punk records to come out in a LONG time. After some
unimpressive comp tracks, a fun and solid 7", the band has put forth its
definitive statement with Go Home. It's weird, it's raucous, it's
dirty, it's extremely catchy. The vocals are less cartoony than they
were on the 7", spouting off "superior" lyrics of hatred and
self-deprecation, all with an appropriate amount of grime. The music
backing these vocals is loaded with pop sensibilities. Dual percussion,
frenetic bass, and even tasteful and awesome keyboard playing. The
element that truly lifts things over the edge, though, is the guitar
playing; the guitar lines and riffs on this record are some of the best
you will hear all year. I can't level enough praise in Go Home's
direction, but I will also say that, at its best, the band resembles
Kill From The Heart-era Dicks." -

DAWN OF HUMANS "BLURST OF THE BIRDFISH" 7" (TOXIC STATE)
"Crazy Spirit may get all of the attention (how could they not with that
male model singer??), but everyone in NYC knows that Dawn Of Humans are
the trueborn kings of mutant hardcore punk in the city. True freaks in
every sense of the word, Dawn Of Humans plays aggressively naive
hardcore that sounds like it exists in an alternate universe. Nothing
about it make sense. The vocals are the most immediate part about the
music, which have become so unhinged and wild that I really don't know
how to describe them other than that they are perfect for this. The
music itself has grown increasingly complex (sort of?) in a stupid sort
of way. I truly hate myself for not being able to do this record justice
with my words, as it will definitely appear high up on my top ten
records of the year list. This record is just that unbelievable and is
beyond any sort of categorization I can provide for it. I am confident
that this is my favorite of the four new Toxic State releases. Their
last 7" is one of the best punk records to have come out in 2010 and
they may have just topped it with their new 7". Hopefully, this band
stays together for at least thirty more years." -

COKE BUST "LIVE ON WMUC" 7" (CARRY THE WEIGHT)
If you are not familiar with Coke Bust, they are a 4 piece from
Washington DC that play blisteringly fast Straight Edge hardcore taking
influence from the likes of HERESY, YOUTH OF TODAY and RIPCHORD. The
band have previously released a string of well recieved record through
the likes of Grave Mistake, Refuse and Six Weeks Records. 'Live on WMUC'
is a 7" containing a raw live set CB played earlier this year and
features a Government Issue cover with John Stabb on vocals. This is a
one time pressing of 1000 copies.
MUTANT GENES "S/T" 7" (VOMIT COMET)
Motor-damaged Punk/HC from Queens NY featuring ex-members of GUILTY FACES.
GIVE "I AM LOVE" 7" (TRIPLE B)
One of three brand new two-song 7"s from one of the most talked about
bands in Washington, DC. This 7" features two brand new songs that take
influence from DC legends such as Swiz and Embrace. For fans of Swiz,
Embrace and Seaweed.
FORWARD "JUST GO FORWARD TO DEATH" LP (PRANK)
Tokyo, Japan's FORWARD formed in 1996 after the break up of legendary
Tokyo hardcore band DEATHSIDE, with lead singer Ishiya and Bassist You
joining new members from INSANE YOUTH and KGS to start a new band that
would continue "Forward" with new punk sounds. With an edgy, raw
hardcore attack, "JUST GO FORWARD TO DEATH" was a culmination of those
early years of the band, and was released in 2000 on the H.G. FACT
label. One of the band's milestone releases with some of the band's most
classic tracks such as "Revolution", What's The Meaning Of Love?", "Set
Me Free", as well as the title track, all marked by the band's
boisterous vocals, catchy guitar leads and sturdy, pounding rhythm
section. This LP was never released in the U.S., has been out of print
on vinyl in Japan for years and is newly re-mastered in time for
FORWARD'S early summer tour of the Southwest and West Coast, the third
time this legendary band has toured the states and first time since
their 2006 tour with TRAGEDY
FORWARD "WHAT'S THE MEANING OF LOVE?" LP (PRANK)
From the forefront of the Japanese hardcore scene of the last 15 years,
FORWARD's fierce hardcore was first released on a series of singles,
EP's and compilation appearances in the late 1990's and early 2000's.
Collecting the entire tracks from their "Feel The Core Of Self" 7", "Act
Then Decide" 7", "We Need The Truth" CD-EP, "What Are You Gonna Get" 7"
and rare compilation appearances for the first time in a remastered
collection from the original sound sources, shows the band defining its
sound of tough vocalled, stripped down hardcore, flourished with guitar
solos and melody. FORWARD are currently preparing their third album and
U.S. tour.
REALITY CRISIS "NOT BOUND BY THE PAST WE LIVE IN THE PRESENT" LP (PRANK)
Explosive hardcore from Nagoya, Japan, REALITY CRISIS take harsh dual
vocals that scream, shout, and powerfully punch atop bombastic hardcore,
fuel it with titanic pounding build ups and blast everything into
raging hardcore songs that strike an intensely pointed balance between
straight forward thrashing and a descent into noisy chaos. This new LP
features re-recordings of older tracks from the band's various deleted
EP's and compilation tracks, completely re-recorded and re-mastered by
the band's current line up. Their third domestic US release in addition
to an appearance on Prank's US press of the "Nagoya City Hardcore"
compilation LP, REALITY CRISIS will return to the US for their second
time and first appearance at Austin's Chaos in Tejas Festival this May.
Split release with Japan's MCR label.
NO STATIK "EVERYWHERE YOU AREN'T LOOKING" LP (PRANK)
A chaotic swirl blasting at extreme velocity, the San Francisco Bay
Area's NO STATIK's debut 10 -song LP is a torrent of rapid fire drum
attack, searing guitar leads and harsh vocals. NO STATIK's sound draws
from the fast, chaotic hardcore sound of the 1990's as the band's long
pedigree maps DIY hardcore scene of the last two decades - members
previously played in SCROTUM GRINDER, MOMENTO MORI, IMPETUS INTER, LOOK
BACK AND LAUGH, DESTROY!, ARTIMUS PYLE, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?, END OF THE
CENTURY PARTY, MURDER SUICIDE-PACT, JUD JUD, FUCKFACE, CONQUEST FOR
DEATH, SCHOLASTIC DETH, but combines diverse elements of all those past,
present and future sounds to ignite another level of sonic mayhem.
Bleak lyrics frame this outing, as the single track A-Side has the band
again experimenting... with ambient, near-horror movie soundtrack-type
eerieness. Recorded at Earhammer and mastered at George Horn.
NEON BLUD "DISCOTHEQUE DEATHBED" 12" (VINYL RITES)
5 long songs of droning post punk, very similar to LIVE SKULL and
BAUHAUS, by members of AMERICAN SNAKESKIN, CULT RITUAL and MERCHANDISE.
Stunning reverbed-out recording, screen printed covers, a one time
pressing of 330 copies on black vinyl.
BIRTH DEFORMITIES "SUBURBANIZED" 10" (COWABUNGA)
Debut record from this Chicagoland area band. Do I want to mention that
this is my band? Not really because I feel weird about advertising it
and mentioning my own band like I am whoring myself, but it is. What we
have here is 11 songs of semi classic hardcore punk and not really
sticking to a specific style or whatever, I think its more 'punk' than
HC but its clearly both. Songs about making bad choices, being a loser,
observations of true suburban life and other punk nonsense or greatness
depending on how you look at it. Comes in a full color cover, housed in a
dust sleeve that is screen printed, both A and B center labels are hand
stamped and comes with a full color folded 20 x 20'' poster of the
cover art! Was originally to be split into 2 releases but we decided to
use them all as one. Its too short for an LP and too long for an EP!
MALE NURSES "SICK CLUB VOL. 1" 7" (COWABUNGA)
2 song 7'' to kick off this amazing 7'' singles series. The Nurses from
Allston deliver 2 tracks of awesome HC punk with a heavy lean towards
true classic punk that is slightly more mature here then compared to the
Deranged debut EP. How can you not get these songs stuck in your head
is what I'll wonder? One of my top 5 bands in existence easily, check
them out.
DRY HUMP "2ND S/T" 7" (COWABUNGA)
A band I find hard to describe to other people. I see sometimes where
someone without a brain calls them 'generic' but I fail to see it. To me
its maybe a little simplistic, but its done so well and there's just
something on the brink of genius about these depraved and disgusting
lyrics. Maybe because it speaks my language? Who knows for sure, but
these Lowell, MA guys just play great, sick HC punk is what you need to
know. The follow up to the already awesome 'Fucks Your Ears' LP from
last year, this 4 song rager is a little more punk and memorable but
just as intense if not more so. PJ totally emulates Jerry A in his own
way vocally on this record and the music is just bursting with raw
power. I know that sounds lame to say, but you can't listen to this and
not be blown away I feel. I guess I am also doing a follow up to this
pretty soon, no complaints here! Comes in folded and hand glued covers
to boot, this is as nice to look at as it is to hear.
SLUGZ "EMPTY SPACE" 7" (COWABUNGA)
Brand new 2nd EP from these Richmond,VA punk rockers! 3 songs that
follow up the already awesome 'Suit and Tie' EP which knocked my socks
off. Insane vocalist backed by a solid band that combines good rockin'
riffs, true American punk and 81' style HC to make a maximum effect. I
can't say anymore, one of my fave bands!
NARCS "LONG HOT SUMMER" 7" (COWABUNGA)
After an almost 2 year delay between recordings, the NARCS 2nd EP
finally is birthed! Not a party punk band like they seem to be called
(although the lyrics are weird and crazy almost in that regard), the
guys 1st EP was awesome but also sounded thin and the vocals sound
buried and in a distance. This record had 5 different recording attempts
and this was the best one easily, 6 songs of pure sleeze punk done very
loud & trashy but also with some Black Flag like hard rock and
blues riffs for good measure
POST TEENS "THE HEAT" 7" (NO IDEA)
Gainesville-based caustic garage punk super-group Post Teens have
announced the details of their upcoming new EP titled "The Heat" out
June 5th on No Idea Records. Featuring members of pummeling grind, indie
and hard rock acts Averkiou, Asshole Parade, Torche and Shitstorm, Post
Teens offer a unique and fast paced, fuzzed-out assault ala The
Mummies, Marked Men, Atomic Suplex, The Spits, The Reatards and more.
WEEKEND NACHOS / LACK OF INTEREST - SPLIT 7" (DEEP SIX)
On this split 7", two household names in the powerviolence genre come
together for an instant classic. Lack of Interest return with some of
their first new material since the 90's, and Weekend Nachos move further
in the direction of Worthless with 10 furious tracks of unadulterated
hardcore. A must-have for any fan of either band, or anybody with a good
ear for heavy fastcore.
COLUMN OF HEAVEN "MISSION FROM GOD" LP (SPHC)
Picking up right where Endless Blockade left off, Column of Heaven
released the more-than-impressive Ecstatically Embracing All That We
Habitually Suppress demo in 2011, and has returned with their highly
anticipated debut 12”. While Endless Blockade hinted and flirted with
the mix of noise/experimental music with power violence, this 12” sees
those ideas taken to their endpoint, fully incorporating noise, dynamic
samples, extra instrumentation, and experimental soundscapes into a
metal-tinged power violence framework. Blasts of harsh noise and brutal
hardcore mix with quieter, creepier atmospherics to make for an engaging
and powerful listen from start to finish. This record fits nicely in
line with the current crop of bands taking power violence in exciting
new directions (Gas Chamber, Iron Lung, Hatred Surge, Suffering Luna,
etc). It’s a great time to be into hardcore.
BADDAT FOR TRUBBEL "DET HAR AR INTE NEW YORK" LP (1234 GO)
Finally a US issue of this modern Swedish punk classic. Now with their
ISO 9004 7" added to the B-Side of the LP. 20 songs total now blazing
through in just 28 minutes. Now in a full color cover with an insert
that translates the swedish lyrics in to english! MRR had this to say
about the album "...Imagine pairing a classic Euro Killed By Death sound
(sung in Swedish, no less) with a lean toward pub rock and the
amphetamine-fueled R&B that dominated the UK in the mid-’70s. While
that might spell trouble for anyone unwilling to look past, I dunno,
MASSHYSTERI for their Euro-punk fix, this amounts to nothing short of a
fucking lightning bolt to the rest of us! It’s refreshing to hear a band
mining the sounds of the initial punk era but shrugging off the pose
and fashion-aping, opting instead for legit soul and passion. No easy
feat, my friends... an absolutely perfect, jaw-dropping record."
WHITE WIRES "WWIII" LP (DIRTNAP)
Here it is, the 3rd album from Ottawa Ontario's White Wires, and it's
their best one yet! We're not just saying that, either! Much like other
recent Dirtnap releases like Mean Jeans On Mars, and Something Fierce's
Don't Be So Cruel, WWWIII finds an older, more established band turning
in a slightly more "mature" album. They've turned down the irony and
turned up the sincerity. Gone (for the most part) are the stupid (in the
best possible sense) built-in-punchline party songs that were all over
their first 2 albums. The first record was the "garage" album, the 2nd
was the "punk" album, this one is the pop masterpiece. Get ready. In
their place is confident, heart-felt pop that's just about the catchiest
thing you've ever heard. This is a rock solid album that really hits a
stride as it goes along. One thing we've always admired about this band
is how each of their albums are very distinct from one another, but are
unmistakably, undeniably The White Wires.
POISON IDEA "KINGS OF PUNK" LP (TAANG)
Poison Idea's second 12" was originally released on Pusmort and keeps up
with the fast, sloppy hardcore punk the band is known for. This LP is
limited and being sold until the remastered, repackaged version on TKO
hits the streets and will be accompanied by bonus tracks.
POISON IDEA "RECORD COLLECTORS ARE PRETENTIOUS ASSHOLES" LP (TAANG)
Following up their "Pick Your King" 7" that is one of the greatest
hardcore punk records of all time, Poison Idea came back with "Record
Collectors Are Pretentious Assholes" in 1984, continuing to rage the way
few others can. This LP is limited and being sold until the remastered,
repackaged version on TKO hits the streets as part of the "Fatal
Erection Years."
QUICKSAND "S/T" 7" (REVELATION)
Their first release. A groundbreaking progression for Walter (Gorilla Biscuits), Alan and Tom (Beyond), and Sergio
YOUTH OF TODAY "S/T" 7" (REVELATION)
The final studio recording from this influential hardcore band. The
lyrics on this release have some of the same philosophical and spiritual
influences that dominated Ray's next band, Shelter, which recorded its
first album the same year. During the sessions these tracks were done
the band also recorded a Partridge Family song, but decided not to
release it until 2002 on the Revelation 100 compilation. This record has
all the energy the band is known for with a glimpse into the ideas that
led Ray to move on to form Shelter.
UNDERDOG "S/T" 7" (BRIDGE 9)
Underdog's debut EP, originally released on New Beginning Records in
1986, available again briefly on B9. 7" includes digital download.
YOUTH OF TODAY "CAN'T CLOSE MY EYES" LP (REVELATION)
The Youth Of Today "Can't Close My Eyes" 7" was originally released by
Positive Force Records in 1985, the now-defunct label once run by 7
Seconds frontman Kevin Seconds. It was later reissued as a 12" with an
extra song by Caroline/Schism Records in 1988. Now it's available on
Revelation Records, completely remastered with new artwork and photos.
Features the "Can't Close My Eyes" 7" in its entirety, the extra track
from the Caroline/Schism Records 12" and the 5 compilation songs from
the V/A "Connecticut Fun" LP originally released on Incas Records in
1985. CD version includes the 2 songs from the V/A "Make It Work" 7"
originally released on Run It Records in 1985 which feature the original
"Can't Close My Eyes" recording and mix of "Take A Stand" and "We Just
Might." Now available again on vinyl.
NERVE AGENTS "S/T" LP (REVELATION)
The Nerve Agents is a sound balanced by the members' different
personalities and by a combination of various influences like "Youth of
Today" with the "Circle Jerks", "Black Flag" with "Cause For Alarm", and
"7 Seconds" with the "Cro-Mags". The band is a mixture of hardcore and
punk, turning their music into a sound very reminiscent of the early
80's.
IN MY EYES "NOTHING TO HIDE" LP (REVELATION)
Something that set In My Eyes apart from other hardcore bands was their
LP "Nothing To Hide." "Nothing To Hide" had all the energy and
aggression that their demo and "The Difference Between" had, but it
expanded their sound into something truly unique. You can hear the
echoes of bands like Minor Threat and Youth Of Today, but it brought in
even more of a sense of melody and structure than their previous record.
Now available again on colored vinyl. Vinyl version includes free
digital download of this record.
MOUTHPIECE "CAN'T KILL WHAT'S INSIDE" LP (REVELATION)
While many of the early eighties pioneers of hardcore had moved along,
the scene went through something of a renaissance with a new crop of
energetic kids who had seized the power of the music and molded it into
something that was relevant to the style of their times. Fast forward to
2008 and the inspiration for Mouthpiece's formation comes full circle
with the release of "Can't Kill What's Inside: The Complete Discography"
on Revelation Records.
IGNITE "CALL ON MY BROTHERS" LP (REVELATION)
After nearly two years of being out of press, Revelation Records has
re-released Ignite's debut full-length cd, Call On My Brothers.
Originally put out by Conversion Records, the amazing remastered 17 song
classic is now finally be available, giving new fans the opportunity to
hear why Ignite has achieved such a large worldwide following while
allowing old fans to hear the album as it was intended to be. Now
available again on colored vinyl. Vinyl version includes free digital
download of this record.
