NEW IN THE WEBSTORE FOR 11/9/12:
BI MARKS "SLEEPER" 7" (BLACKWATER)
Great follow up to their recent golden years LP. Three tracks of raging
U.S. hardcore in the vein of Zero Boys with a touch of Black Sabbath
and early Accused for good measure. The best kept secret in modern day
U.S. hardcore punk and a refreshing change from the current state of
American hardcore.
VAGINORS "TOTAL NONSENSE" 7" (VIDEO DISEASE)
If you haven't heard the Vaginors you are missing out on some of the
catchiest, noisiest, and obnoxiously great noise punk happening in the
world right now. Their LP absolutely blew me away and I knew I had to
release something for them. This band is head and shoulders above ANY
other noise punk band in the world right now. Absolutely GENIUS! Taking
the elements of the Swankys to a whole new extreme, the guitar pump out
incredibly noisy riffs while the drums and bass bounce around with some
of the catchiest punk you've ever heard while the thick nasally OZ
accent wails and flails his voice to new heights of ridiculousness. To
match the absurdity of the music there will be FOUR colors of vinyl
available for this release! Some will be exclusive to regions, but more
details on that later. For now check out a sample track:
TRENCH ROT "TYRANT" 7" (VIDEO DISEASE)
Latest and greatest 7" from these So Cal HC warriors. Rejecting the more
traditional d-beat approach the band injects a huge amount of early
USHC influence into their Discharge-tinged riffs, bringing to mind
trailblazers such as the legendary Poison Idea. They are not simply
paying homage though, they are jumping out from the pack of trendy
d-beat and rehash HC to bring a record with an incredibly powerful sound
and incredibly catchy songs. On this recording they have stayed away
from the "raw ponx" trend that is sweeping Los Angeles and instead opted
for a brighter and cleaner recording to capture the power that these
juggernauts have.
RAKOSI "OLASYLIZKA" 7" (LENGUA ARMADA)
Short, raging sounds all the way from Hungary. This is one tight,
fucking record with no time for bullshit, to the point and aggressive as
hell. You don’t speak Hungarian? It doesn’t matter, you will understand
angst and fury no matter what tongue it is in. RAKOSI bring us their
second ep on Lengua Armada and this shit kills. 500 pressed.
MASTERS APPRENTICES "UNDECIDED" 7" (UGLY POP)
Australia's legendary Masters Apprentices debuted with this superb 45 in
November 1966, hitting hard with Undecided's raucous,
early-Kinks-inspired punk R&B but truly achieving godhead with the
flipside. Wars Or Hands Of Time is about as good as it gets, a sublime,
driving garage-psych gem later to be immortalized on the Nuggets 2
boxset. Among my all-time top five or ten singles, and an absolute dream
to reissue. High-quality pressing taken from the recent Aztec remaster,
in full-colour jacket with all-new insert.
IN-SECT, THE "I CAN SEE MY LOVE" 7" (UGLY POP)
Prefering to release records in sets, it made perfect sense to couple
the Masters reissue with this similarly brilliant classic Australian 45.
Hailing from the same city of Adelaide, The In-Sect almost unbelievably
released this sophomore single just a few months earlier, in August of
'66. I Can See My Love is a stunning rush of '60s punk aggression, all
streamlined attack powered by excellent high-speed drumming, piercing
guitar and tough, commanding vocals. We've replaced the original's more
commercially-minded flip with a wild take on the timeless Yardbirds hit.
High-quality pressing from proper master and new picture sleeve.
CONQUEST FOR DEATH "ONE DEFINITION OF SUCCESS" 7" (TANKCRIMES)
Fast, manic hardcore punk! New album coming soon on Tankcrimes - this EP
is limited to 300 copies on muddled purple/greyblack vinyl with a nice
little obi strip - get one now!
ESCAVELS "YOU SHOULD KNOW" 7" (ALONAS DREAM)
The Escavels bridge the gap between The Ravens (see: ADR 7 001) (They
even shared some members!) and the legendary Chicago garage punks The
Things To Come. They were considered the teen heartthrobs (surely not
more than the Ravens!?) of the west suburban Chicagoland dance scene and
actually won the Talented Teen Contest in ’65! Some Escavels members
went on to some pretty heavy gigs: from garage legends (Things To Come)
to major label blues n’ boogie bands (Pacific Gas & Electric) to
cult psychedelic albums (McDonald & Sherby), their influence might
surprise you.
PENETRATORS,THE "TEENAGE LIFESTYLE" 7" (WINDIAN)
A project we took on with a head of steam was the PENETRATORS.
re-issuing their first single last summer, we will also continue to
release the amazing singles they dropped in Syracuse, NY more than 30
years ago. Teenage Lifestyle / Rock n Roll face was the bands 2nd
release in 1979, and comprises heavier stones/nuggets thuggish bashers
and heated vox from spike and jack and the gang. Includes fred records
promo sticker on the back sleeve just as the original did in ’79. mp3
card included.
PENETRATORS, THE "GOTTA HAVE HER" 7" (WINDIAN)
Syracuse’s only, #1 Band in Town, the Kings of Basement Rock…THE
PENETRATORS! WINDIAN is extremely proud to be releasing the first of
many re-issues and previously un-released 45′s from these seminal 70′s
garage / punk rockers. This is the single that started it all, the
single that started FRED RECORDS, “Gotta Have Her B/W Baby, Dontcha Tell
Me” 45. Released in 1976 on the bands own imprint, the A-side “Gotta
Have Her” is a sleek groover, kidnapped from the ROLLING STONES and
beaten savagely by NUGGET-ERA bashers. The B-side’s “Baby, Dontcha Tell
Me” possesses all the cocksure swagger sound of early rock and roll that
THE PENETRATORS perfected instantly.
CHINESE BURNS "CALCULATOR" 7" (WINDIAN)
It’s been a year or so since CHINESE BURNS [Melbourne, Australia]
released their last 45, two years since ‘CAN DIG’ 7″ and the wait is
totally worth it. You might remember them from a featured interview with
TERMINAL BOREDOM. You might remember you have one of your favorite 7″s
in your collection from these guys. This is a one-up. The latest effort
features 4 tracks of broken feverish Garage Punk, from beginning to end,
A to B, this 7″ is effortlessly complete. ‘Kiss Fist’ was featured on
the WINDIAN SUMMER COMPILATION, and was a favored track among the voices
that actually got the CD.
DEAD PEOPLE "FEEL THE LIGHT" 7" (WINDIAN)
Hailing from Gnarlins, Dead People were born on the bayou in the dusk of
2010 when members of Nü Orleans’ The Bellys and The Dives, joined
forces. Within a week they debuted their dual-guitar, dual-vox, dual
songwriting duel at the Big Sleazy’s Saturn Bar. Since then, Dude
People’s blossomed and flower-powered into an explosive live-act, a true
tour de force. Their debut 4 track 7″ Lo-Fi art damaged Garage Psych
Punk. Loud beating, brash guitar treatments, and harsh heated vox punish
your ears in the way we all enjoy.
SWEET SIXTEENS, THE "SUBMARINE" 7" (WINDIAN)
Second single from these party punkers outta Lafayette Indiana [aka
Party City U.S.A.], The Sweet Sixteens! Two supremely Lo-Fi KeyTard
synth poppers, sure to keep you in the red. Tracks good enough to weird
out your biker dad and keep you in with the sweet ladies. Very fun, OK?
RATTUS "RAJOITETTU YDINSOTA" 7" (HOENIE)
Fucking insane top shelf Finnish hardcore from 1982. A total head
eruption, blazing hardcore punk, otherworldly guitar leads, raw guttaral
vocals, hardcore at it's best. Limited re issue on Hoenie records.
RATTUS "RATTUS ON RAUTAA" 7" (HOENIE)
Limited re issue on Hoenie records of this early 12" from Rattus as a
7". This is Rattus in between 77 punk and hardcore, but still great on
every track.
MENACE "G.L.C." 7" (QUEER PILLS)
Classic 77 uk punk. Originally out in 1978 now repressed and the first
out of 5 in the series of menace singles to come.includes a bonus song
by the aces(post menace) from there super rare 7". out in time to
support the east coast appearance.each 7" will come with one bonus song
and there will be limited box set of all 5 7”s in the end.
MR. CALIFORNIA / FLYIN' TRICHECOS - SPLIT 7" (NONCOMMERCIAL)
This is the last recording of the Flyin' Trichecos before Anus went back
to Italia. Recorded in the basement on 4 track. Very raw and a little
more on the hardcore side than previous releases. There is also a Mr.
California cover done by the Trichecos with various guest appearances.
The Mr. California side features the classic song "Smokin' Crack" and a
hilarious electronic version of a Flyin' Trichecos song that is out of
this world. This is a one time pressing on Non-Commercial Records with a
limited 110 on Cocaine stained vinyl and 240 on black vinyl! Featuring
members of Out With a Bang, Midnight, Inmates, 9 SHocks, Darvocets etc
etc. Artwork drawn by FOOD, the genius singer of Sockeye!
SICK FIX "VEXED" LP (A389)
Washington DC's straight edge powerhouse Sick Fix's debut vinyl "Vexed"
comes loaded with twelve tracks of fast and crushing, pissed off female
fronted hardcore. Formed in 2006, by members of Magrudergrind/Coke Bust
and friends, Sick Fix recently toured Europe with Coke Bust. Printed
insert, and MP3 download codes.
PICK YOUR SIDE "LET ME SHOW YOU HOW DEMOCRACY WORKS" LP (A389)
The wait is over at last! PICK YOUR SIDE features ex/current members of
Haymaker/Left For Dead/Fuck The Facts/Burst Of Silence playing fast
heavy pissed off hardcore that sounds like everything you'd hope it
sounded like.
COUNTDOWN TO OBLIVION "DISCOGRAPHY" LP (A389)
This collection compiles COUNTDOWN TO OBLIVION's entire 16 track
recorded output including the demo tape, EP and the split 7" w/They
Live. CTO was from Toronto and they played metallic hardcore featuring
Chris Colohan (Left For Dead/The Swarm/Cursed/etc) on vocals alongside
members of Legion DCLXVI, One Blood, Rammer and Brutal Knights.
Packaged in a gatefold cover/additional insert with tons of photos,
flyers, lyrics and liner notes by Chris Colohan. Comes with a digital
download card!!!
CONCRETE SOX "YOUR TURN NEXT" LP (BOSS TUNEAGE)
CONCRETE SOX hailed from Nottingham and were one of the pioneers of the
whole UK Hardcore punk/thrash scene in the mid 80s. Now their debut
album “Your Turn Next” is made available again in conjunction with the
bands own Soxcore label.
CONCRETE SOX "WHOOPS SORRY VICAR!" LP (BOSS TUNEAGE)
CONCRETE SOX hailed from Nottingham and were one of the pioneers of the
whole UK Hardcore punk/thrash scene in the mid 80s. Now their second
album “Whoops Sorry Vicar” is made available again in conjunction with
the bands own Soxcore label.
SPERMBIRDS "SOMETHING TO PROVE" LP (BOSS TUNEAGE)
The term "classic hardcore punk album" must be one of the most overused
phrases, but in the case of the SPERMBIRDS legendary debut album from
1986, its more than valid. Hailing from Kaiserslauten and featuring ex
US serviceman Lee Hollis on vocals, the debut SPERMBIRDS album was fast
and furious punk rock influenced by US hardcore bands such as BLACK
FLAG, 7 SECONDS and ANGRY SAMOANS. Mainland Europe's most successful
hardcore band are still going strong 25 years on, and "Something To
Prove" remains the starting point / first port of call to anyone
checking out the band. Now this classic is available again on orange
vinyl, and is repressed using the original metalwork and artwork from
the We Bite original pressing!
HERESY "1985-1987" LP (BOSS TUNEAGE)
Heresy is one of the most influential UK Hardcore Punk bands ever to
exist. From 1985-1989 the band were one of the leading lights of the
rapidly expanding UK scene. Heresy’s back catalogue has been totally
re-mastered by Kalv Piper and Steve “Baz” Ballam from the band and
“1985-87” is the first of a trilogy of discographies that Boss Tuneage
has released (along with Face Up To It and 20 Reasons to End It All).
This traces the early formative years of the band, from their previously
unreleased 7 song demo tape from 1985 to the debut 6 track “Never
Healed” flexi-disc 7”EP and contains the virtually-impossible-to –find 4
song “Thanks” 7” EP. In addition 2 previously unreleased tracks
complete the 19 track album. With extensive sleeve notes from Kalv, the
repackeged vinyl version (available again for the first time in three
years) features tons of never seen before photos, tour posters and
lyrics. An absolute must for any fan of Heresy or UK hardcore.
HERESY "20 REASONS TO END IT ALL" LP (BOSS TUNEAGE)
Heresy is one of the most influential UK Hardcore Punk bands ever to
exist. From 1985-1989 the band were one of the leading lights of the
rapidly expanding UK scene. Heresy’s back catalogue has been totally
re-mastered by Kalv Piper and Steve “Baz” Ballam from the band and “20
Reasons to End it All” is the final installment of a trilogy of
discographies that Boss Tuneage has released (along with 1985-1987 and
Face Up To It). It traces the final year of the band’s history and
compiles the “Whose Generation” 7”, the “13 Rocking Anthems” LP
(featuring their second and third sessions for the legendary John Peel
Show) as well as the ultra rare “Live At Leeds” 7” tracks taken from the
bands final ever show. In essence, this release is an absolute must for
any fan of HERESY or UK Hardcore to complete their collection.
HERESY "FACE UP TO IT" LP (BOSS TUNEAGE)
Heresy is one of the most influential UK Hardcore Punk bands ever to
exist. From 1985-1989 the band were one of the leading lights of the
rapidly expanding UK scene. Heresy’s back catalogue has been totally
re-mastered by Kalv Piper and Steve “Baz” Ballam from the band and “Face
Up To It” is the second of a trilogy of discographies that Boss Tuneage
has released (along with 1985-1987 and 20 Reasons to End It All). This
was the bands one and only album of which over 10,000 copies were
pressed and sold throughout the world upon its release in 1988. This
re-issue also contains a bonus 11 songs taken from pre-studio home
demos/rehearsals recorded prior to the album which are the first time
these archive recordings have been released. The album is almost
unrecognisable from in its new, digitally re-mastered version sounding a
hundred times better than it ever has done before – and the best it
will ever sound! Compiled with extensive sleeve notes from Kalv from the
band, the repaclaged vinyl also contains dozens of unseen photos, tour
posters and lyrics.
VIOLENT ARREST "TOOTH AND NAIL" LP (BOSS TUNEAGE)
Featuring 75% of the line up of UK hardcore punk legends RIPCORD, you
know already that VIOLENT ARREST will not disappoint. This, their fifth
release (early releases came out on US labels Deranged and Grave
Mistake) is the follow up to last years stunning “Minute Manifestos”
(voted one of the best releases of 2010 by punk bible Maximum rocknRoll)
and thunders through 10 brand new tracks – nine raging new original
slabs of passionate , energetic, no nonsense hardcore punk – as well as
their cover version of THE JAGS new wave power pop classic “Back of My
Hand”!!
PELIGRO SOCIAL "NO RELIGION" LP (TANKCRIMES)
Rousing pissed off San Francisco high energy melodic punk en Español.
Mind bendingly catchy and anthemic. These 10 songs have a sound similar
to classic 80’s Spanish punk bands with even more fire and rockin’
guitar leads. Originally released in 2006 this LP has been re-cut and
reissued due to popular demand. Now on colored vinyl including digital
download card. ‘77, ‘82, '06, '12, punk rock is timeless when it’s this
good, an instant classic.
VITAMIN X "ABOUT TO CRACK" LP (TANKCRIMES)
Dutch Punk Hardcore veterans VITAMIN X return with their 5th album.
Lightning fast, solid tight crossover/hardcore and turbocharged
thrash-filled with killer hooks and choruses. Wicked guitar solos and
massive rock licks while never slowing down. Recorded by Steve Albini
with cover art by John Dyer Baizley.
DINOSAUR JR. "I BET ON SKY" LP (JAGJAGUWAR)
I Bet on Sky is the third Dinosaur Jr. album since the original trio – J
Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph – reformed in 2005. And, crazily, it marks
the band's 10th studio album since their debut on Homestead Records in
1985. Back in the '80s, if anyone has suggested that these guys would be
performing and recording at such a high level 27 years later, they
would have been laughed out of the tree fort. The trio's early shows
were so full of sonic chaos, such a weird blend of aggression and
catatonia that we all assumed they would flame out fast. But the joke
was on us. The trio has taken everything they've learned from the
various projects they tackled over the years, and poured it directly
into their current mix. J's guitar approaches some of its most unhinged
playing here, but there's a sense of instrumental control that matches
the sweet murk of his vocals (not that he always remembers to exercise
control on stage, but that's another milieu). This is head-bobbing
riff-romance at the apex. Lou's basswork shows a lot more melodicism now
as well, although his two songs on I Bet on Sky retain the jagged
rhythmic edge that has so often marked his work. And Murph...well, he
still pounds the drums as hard and as strong as a pro wrestler, with
deceptively simple structures that manage to interweave themselves
perfectly with his bandmates' melodic explosions. After submerging
myself in I Bet on Sky, it's clear that the album is a true and worthy
addition to the Dinosaur Jr. discography.
CONFUSE "INDIGNATION" LP (NOISE NOT MUSIC)
Ultra-raw noisy thrash is the word for the most widely loved Japanese HC
band ever! Their 1984 'Indignation' demos, now available on vinyl again
in all their unprecedented brutality. Comes with a printed inner
sleeve.
RUDIMENTARY PENI "DEATH CHURCH" LP (NOISE NOT MUSIC)
Long awaited reissue for this anarcho-punk/death-rock classic.
Rudimentary Peni emerged from the British anarcho-punk scene in the
early 1980s. Lead singer/guitarist Nick Blinko is notorious for his
witty macabre lyrics and dark pen-and-ink artwork, prominently featured
on all of Rudimentary Peni's albums. Desperate (and mostly
autobiographical) lyrics, astounding goth-styled riffings, a horrific
tone throughout this entire one-of-a-kind post punk classic. Includes
printed inner sleeve with lyrics.
ZYANOSE "INSANE NOISE RAID" LP (WHISPER IN DARKNESS)
The first and long awaited full length release from Osaka's Zyanose!
Having spent time in such Japanese noise punk heroes as Defuse and
Defector, and with 2 7"s and a number of demos along the way, Zyanose
erupt with 9 noise-philia-cruster tracks of ear splitting distortion and
detonation drums. Questioning the "Seven Deadly Sins of Nightmare" and
general distrust as the roots of their lyrical onslaught underneath the
twin bass cacophony and feedback, this brings noise-core to new vistas
of chaos and aural destruction.
PICTURE FRAME SEDUCTION "HAND OF THE RIDER" LP (QUEER PILLS)
Picture Frame Seduction (PFS) is a hardcore punk band from
Haverfordwest, Wales. The band's influences included their peers of the
day, Charged GBH and Discharge. With many other bands of the time like
The Varukers, they helped develop the hardcore punk scene in the United
Kingdom in the early to mid 1980’s. This LP Features 7” bonus tracks
from their 7”. First time reissued on vinyl classic U.K. punk hardcore,
first press of 500.
ESKORBUTO "YA NO QUEDAN MAS COJONES..." LP (MUNSTER)
Reissue of this 1986 cassette by Eskorbuto, one of the most influential
punk bands in the Spanish and Latin American scenes. Its original
release was part of their campaign to enter the Spanish general
elections as a political party. They didn't achieve it but the songs
here told more truths that any political speech.
GOVERNMENT ISSUE "BEST OF GOVERNMENT ISSUE" LP (MYSTIC)
Government Issue hails from Washington, D.C. The band is considered to
be a founding member of the DC scene. With the intense musical energy
and the wacky antics of Jon Stabb, often called "The Clowned Prince of
Punk," they developed a loyal following on the East Coast. After seeing a
Mystic display in a D. C. record store and knowing Mystic was strong in
California, they called Doug Moody, and he brought them to Hollywood to
record and introduced them to the West Coast. This record is a
combination of the "Give Us Stabb" studio EP and live recordings made
across the U. S. It is an excellent sampler of their strongest material.
The live recordings were recorded multi-track and later mixed in the
studio. The Best of Government Issue release is part of the Mystic 2010
Collectors Series. Even with the collectability of the series, it is
still priced to move and is a must-have for anyone who collects Mystic.
22 Songs.
CONFUSE "NUCLEAR ADDICTS" 7" (FANCLUB)
Known as one of the essential groups of Japanese hardcore throughout the
1980s, Confuse has long been a favorite for those who desire their
hardcore overloaded with sheer intensity. Light years ahead of their
contemporaries when it came to chaotic, raw, distorted, and blindingly
noisy sounds, ranking right them beside fellow heavyweights GISM and
GAUZE. Originally recorded in 1984 and issued as a Japanese-only flexi,
this EP documents the first studio recordings of Confuse. This EP is an
absolute classic noisecore record; abrasive rough buzzsaw thrash that
took UK hardcore groups like DISORDER & CHAOS UK as a starting
point, but then brought it to a whole new extreme level. This 7 song 7”
EP is pressed on red vinyl with custom printed labels to resemble the
original flexi. Comes packaged in a high quality glued sleeve that
faithfully reproduces the original stark black & white artwork.
Limited edition of 500 copies worldwide.
VICTIMS "NO THANKS TO THE HUMAN TURD" 7" (FANCLUB)
The Victims was a punk band from Perth, Western Australia, active in
1977-79. Fanclub pressing of their second single! Five songs of raw,
wild Australian punk rock and roll
RAMONES "CARBONA NOT GLUE" 7" (FANCLUB)
Originally pressed to look like a SUB POP single, this is a more recent
pressing of this fanclub single. Carbona Not Glue b/w I Can't Be. Comes
with insert and sticker!
GG ALLIN AND THE JABBERS "FOR THOSE WHO CAN TAKE IT RAW" 7" (FANCLUB)
Fanclub single. Features FOR THOSE WHO CAN TAKE IT RAW / CHERI LOVE AFFAIR / GG ALLIN INTERVIEW / 1980'S ROCK N ROLL.
SCREAMERS "PUNISH OR BE DAMNED" 7" (FANCLUB)
Killer SCREAMERS single live 1978 at the Masque. Punish or be Damned / Vertigo (Let's Go) / Magazine Love / Peer Pressure.
ZERO DEFEX (aka 0DFX) "WAR HERO - 1983 DEMO" 7" (GET REVENGE)
A couple of stock copies of this reissue from a few years back! ZERO
DEFEX (aka 0DFX) were a hardcore punk band from CLEVELAND, OH in the
early 80s. This is their 1983 Demo pressed onto 7" by GET REVENGE as a
part of their "DEMOlition Series", and apparently only 200-300 copies
were pressed! 0DFx appeared on the Ohio-based punk rock compilation, The
New Hope and on the nationally released P.E.A.C.E./War compilation.
BAYONET "2ND DEMO 21/9-1983" 7" (FANCLUB)
Stock copies! Fanclub reissue from I believe 2007 ... Propaganda-era
early Finnish HC from '83. Their raw and brutal demo put to vinyl.
Great.
INTEGRITY "KINGDOM OF HEAVEN" 7" (A389)
20th Anniversary collection of various tracks Integrity recorded in 1992
with David Nicholi Araca on drums before his untimely passing.
BILL BONDSMEN "NINETEEN" 7" (SELF RELEASED)
Latest single from this Detroit HC/punk band, and as on their last,
excellent single their sound has really progressed to something unique,
intense, and interesting. "Nineteen" is a mid-paced stomper, but unlike a
lot of bands who try to write a mid-paced song, Bill Bondsmen don't
dial down the complexity at all... the riff has that quirky Die
Kreuzen-ish flair to it that I loved about their last single, but
harnesses it toward a different, creepier energy. For those with a need
for speed, the b-side punks things up with a bit faster and more
traditional hardcore song. As with their previous single, this is very
limited and features a hand-screened sleeve.
OCCULT DETECTIVE CLUB "ALRIGHT GENTLEMEN" 7" (DIRT CULT)
Nervous powerpop from Denton by people who have brought you bands like
Maaster Gaiden, Stymie, and A.N.S. This new 7″ follows two LPs (one on
Alive and one on Red Lounge) and a split 10″ with Something Fierce
(Dirtnap). Fucking great stuff!
KING TUFF "SCREAMING SKULL" 7" (SUB POP)
LA-via-Vermont garage/powerpop wunderkind King Tuff presents two brand
new, non-album tracks, hot on the heels of his acclaimed self-titled LP.
“Screaming Skull” is a club-ready, guitar-driven dance hit, and “Love
Potion” is a glammed-up rock anthem in classic King Tuff form.
KING TUFF "S/T" LP (SUB POP)
King Tuff is the new record from King Tuff—his first for Sub Pop and his
second album overall. Was Dead, King Tuff’s 2008 debut, captured the
attention of the rock underground and quickly blew through its limited
pressing (it now resides on ebay, being snatched up for hearty sums).
His gem of a new album was produced by Bobby Harlow, of The Go and
Conspiracy of Owls, and recorded during a furious two-week run in
Detroit. And Bobby has the following, among a great many other things,
to say about it: “After investigating Was Dead I realized that, with his
latest offering, King Tuff’s songwriting was stretching far beyond the
thrill of the immediate dance-floor reflex and now revealed a songwriter
with a keen eye inside everyone. That was the stuff that I was
interested in. Embarrass me! I don’t give a fuck about your
ex-girlfriend. We’ve created something here. King Tuff should not be
inspected or even listened to with critical ears. Cut your ears off.
Rock & Roll is meant to be blasted into your cells, penetrated, and
absorbed. It’s a visceral experience. Seek solace in solitude when
you’re dead. If you aren’t able to recognize the genius in this epic
album, then you’re already dead. Kill yourself. Or get a job. Your
choice." Please do not really cut off your ears or kill yourself. These
are rhetorical devices meant to convey some variation on the following:
King Tuff might just save your life AND your ears. All hail the King.
HUNX "HAIRDRESSER BLUES" LP (HARDLY ART)
Hairdresser Blues is the first solo record from front man Hunx, and
features all Hunx, all the time (minus drums, played by Daniel Pitout).
Listen in as Hunx sings on about love, hairspray, and rollers, all
backed by contagious pop melodies with streaks of glam, garage, and the
Dunedin Sound in its hair. Recorded with Ivan Julian (Richard Hell &
the Voidoids) in NY. All LPs include a download code.
HOLY SHIT "K.B.D.O.O.P." 10" (CRIMINAL IQ)
Holy Shit! Holy Shit! Holy Shit! have conquered the 10" format! Angry
from the gut art-smash punk. A killer record that should be listened to
again and again and again.
CATBURGLARS "S/T" LP (CRIMINAL IQ)
Two singles out on tooth decay and cowabunga, this band kinda straddles
the FC/rock n roll punk styles with Dictators style mongo-punk.
CLAW TOE "S/T" LP (CRIMINAL IQ)
Claw Toe are back with a brand new 12" EP!! Primitive and rythmic, Claw
Toe sound like arty Troggs fans armed with a synthesizer. Mixing up a
few styles of early punk and post-punk ala Joy Division with a rawer
dirtier sound Claw Toe sound unique and pretty fucking bombastic. The
Boris Karloff style vocal delivery combines with subtle humour and
stylish "noir" moments that fit nicely with their druggy throb.
Recommended if you like - The Stranglers, Tall Boys, Alice Cooper,
Killing Joke, Metal Urbain, Ministry, Bauhaus, Chrome, Stooges, Toy
Dolls.
OBITS "MOODY, STANDARD AND POOR" LP (SUB POP)
The answer to the question, “Are Obits ‘indie rock veterans’?” is yes
and no. Yes, they are accomplished musicians who once fronted Drive Like
Jehu, Edsel, Hot Snakes, and Pitchfork. But also; No, they are not
active or retired members of the United States military. It’s good to
get these things sorted out. Don’t worry—there are no dumb questions.
What of Obits’ new record? Well, for starters, it’s their second
full-length, and it’s called Moody, Standard and Poor. It was recorded
at Brooklyn’s Saltlands Studio by Eli Janney and Geoff Sanoff. Sub Pop
will release it on March 29, 2011. And how will Moody, Standard and Poor
make you feel? The short answer is: great. Not
Smoking-An-Eightball-Of-Coke great. But Alive-To-New-Listening
Experiences great. The long answer is that these twelve songs will take
you on a series of emotional road trips. Some will be as brief as a walk
to the fridge. Others will be epic pilgrimages to the shady hinterlands
of your subconscious. Great records can do this. Moody, Standard and
Poor is no exception.
BABIES, THE "CRY ALONG WITH..." 12" (NEW IMAGES)
"Side-projects are notoriously short-lived; the world doesn’t have
enough fingers and toes to count all the talented members of bands that
come together, play a show, release a demo, and then disappear entirely.
This isn’t the case for the Babies, the brain child of Cassie Ramone
(Vivian Girls) and Kevin Morby (Woods). Separating the members of the
Babies, we have a group of respectable musicians with equally great
bands, but when they come together a musical child, part noise, fuzz,
pop, and indie, is born. Their latest release, Cry Along With the
Babies, is a 12” record of demos recorded between 2010-2011, via New
Images (Real Estate and Ducktails’ Matt Mondanile’s label). The 12” is
best suited for a true fan of the Babies, or a lover of all things
lo-fi. And when I say lo-fi, I mean some serious low fidelity. Cry Along
With the Babies crackles and buzzes like a true demo should. Then
again, why would we expect anything less of the Babies and Matt
Mondanile? Both are notorious for lo-fi production and bare-boned,
rootsy recordings. It opens with “Big Mercedes,” a classic boy/girl duet
with Ramone’s signature vocal style and Morby’s love-sick cries.
Hardcore Babies’ fans will be interested in taking a listen to “Hey
Mama”, the skeleton to what would eventually become “Sick Kid” on their
self-titled LP. Other songs included on Cry Along play out like rough
jam sessions between Morby and Ramone, in which you can clearly hear how
well they flow together despite the fact that these are rough demos.
It might not be for everyone. If you’re looking for a high quality
produced 12” with a sense of direction, then you’re out of luck. If you
want to take a peek into the writing process of best friends, making
humble and catchy music together, then you can’t get anything better
than Cry Along With the Babies." -

FILTHPACT / KANSALAISTOTTELEMATTOMUUS - SPLIT 7" (CHAOS RURALE)
New split 7" between Filthpact crusty grinding from Scotland. who
reformed in 2010 after breaking up back in 2007 now they are back to
continue where they left off playing thier Total Crust Violence and
coinciding this split with Kansalaistottelemattomuus to match their tour
of Finland together, Kansalaistottelemattomuus; come from Finland bring
a Scadinavaian hardcore sound mixed with anarcho spirit of a familiar
sound of Oi Polloi which may come as no surprise with Deek from Oi
Polloi on vocals.
DEKODER "BETWEEN THE WAKING AND THE DYING" LP (CHAOS RURALE)
8 songs debut LP for this female fronted post punk band from Montreal.
CVLT Nation's placed their last year demo amongst one of the six best
releases of 2011 in their category "positive punk / deathrock". Come
with a nice 11”x17” poster as well as a download card. Members have
played in Born Dead Icons, Complications, Ballast and Preying Hands.
BONEBLACK "S/T" LP (CHAOS RURALE)
8 tracks of relentless darkened crust hailing from deathchurch in
montreal. This debut LP skillfully runs the gambit of crushing mid
tempo punishment to raging d-beat all in one track.
FACIALS "S/T" LP (CHAOS RURALE)
Debut album from this keyboard driven, female singing pop-punk band from
Montreal. The vocal reminds me a lot of some 80' anarcho-punk band
like RUBELLA BALLET or LOST CHERREES. Songs dealing with subject like
being queer, hating the state and nuclear radiation just to name a few.
Members have played in BALLAST and SWTZRLND. The first side finishes
with an tremendous cover from the swedish punk band BURNING KITCHEN
while the flip side ends with a really nice sing-a-long ballad. Amazing
live act as well as an amazing LP.
PROTESTANT "RECLAMATION" LP (CHAOS RURALE)
"Here's the latest release from Milwaulkee, WI's Protestant. Protestant
have been consistently churning out their brand of blackened, metallic,
and crust influenced hardcore since 2004. The band has been a powerhouse
of sorts and have released an impressive output of music in their eight
year's existence. The band has continually impressed me with the
quality of music they've put out so far, and their latest 12" is no
exception. Reclamation is set to drop at the end of the month, September
21st, to be exact. Reclamation is a five song 12" that runs a little
under twenty minutes. For the band, Reclamation is an evolution of sorts
and shows Protestant veering slightly away from their crust leanings
found on the band's earlier releases. Protestant have embraced more of a
metallic sound this time around, but have done so in a way that does
not take away from the aggressiveness of the band's sound. Musically,
these five new songs are still dark, venomous, and brutal as fuck. All I
know is this band does not fail to impress me and I always look forward
to new material from the band. Highly recommended! Enjoy!" -

CLITBOYS - DISCOGRAPHY TAPE
Official reissue! "Discography tape from this highly underrated
Wisconsin HC band from the early 80s. Includes their We Don't Play the
Game EP as well as their Detour demo tape, as well as an insert with
posters, flyers, and other ephemera. I've always loved this band's sound
as it couldn't be more simple really, but everything so so
stripped-down and direct that it just sticks in your head... sort of
like an even more raw and rudimentary version of Minor Threat. Early HC
heads should definitely have this one in their collection in some way,
shape, or form." -

BIG EYES "HARD LIFE" TAPE (DIRT CULT)
Debut full length from Big Eyes! Ramones and Muffs inspired punk rock
from NJ with former members of Cheeky and Kicking Spit. Here's a nice
review from Razorcake: Give this record one listen, just one listen, and
I promise you will be hooked on Big Eyes. Featuring tons of wailing and
noodling guitars by guitarist/vocalist Kate Eldridge, and backed by the
solid rhythm section of CJ Frederick and Mark Bronzino on drums and
bass respectively, the result is a collection of some of the catchiest
tunes I’ve heard in a long time. Tracks, like “Your Lies,” and “I Know
You’re Wrong,” have a frantic energy and tons of guitar leads, but the
band also gets slow and meandering as in the tracks “Different than I
Thought,” and “Why Can’t I?” Floating at the perfect point in the middle
of the mix of all these songs are Kate’s hard-edged vocals, singing,
and occasionally screaming, about love, loss, and attraction. While I
can say that I hear influences ranging from ‘60s rock, and ‘70s punk and
surf, simple genre descriptions only sell this band short. Their sound
captures the best of rock music from several decades, in a way that can
only be described as timeless.
EXEQUALS "SEEING GREY" TAPE
"Ripping stripped down garage hardcore from two dudes separated by
distance and adulthood, but determined to still make punk happen. These
six songs are bombastic assaults, pissed hardcore punk with hooks, but
without compromising intensity. "Set Me Free" kick in after two break
neck numbers and gives EXEQUALS a street punk tinge that works perfectly
with their feisty hc attack, a vibe that is furthered with the
MOTORHEAD meets '90s basement punk feel of "Why Not Now." This is music
played by people who know exactly what they are doing and it's wrapped
up in a package that commands your attention before you even get the
tape into the deck. Killer jams, let's hope they move out of the stuido
and into the basement sooner rather than later" - MAXIMUMROCKNROLL
EXEQUALS "HOME RECORDINGS VOL. 1" TAPE
Newest cassette offering from this hc punk garage project out of PA. A
collection of songs recorded in the "Dave Cave" at home in Central PA.

CANNABIS CORPSE "BENEATH GROW LIGHTS THOU SHALT RISE" CD (TANKCRIMES)
Following in the tradition laid down by their earlier releases, each
song on the record is inspired by a classic death metal track - this
time around, Morbid Angel and Deicide are getting the Cannabis
treatment! Tongue-in-cotton-mouthed-cheek titles like “Lunatic of Pot’s
Creation” and “Immortal Pipes” keep the party rolling, but don’t be
fooled: CANNABIS CORPSE are not a joke band. Sure, they’ll fire up a
bowl and chug a beer, but then they’ll rip your face off with a brutal
old-school death metal assault, the likes of which haven’t been seen
since the seeds of the genre first began to grow. With a European
invasion slated for August/September and many a nefarious scheme looming
on the horizon, the ‘Corpse have only begun to burn.
ANS "PRESSURE CRACKS" CD (TANKCRIMES)
A.N.S. "Pressure Cracks" LP/CD - A.N.S. from Texas are one of the most
killer punk/crossover bands out there. After 2 albums and a dozen or so
splits and EP's, they've produced their most focused (and best) material
to date on "Pressure Cracks" the 3rd album from this prolific hardcore
band. The heaviest influences are common, but maybe A.N.S. grab from
less obvious albums, combining here a killer blend of the "professional
hardcore" of "Feel the Darkness" era Poison Idea, the drugged out heavy
metal / classic rock influenced punk of "My War" and beyond Black Flag,
plus the high energy crossover thrash of "Lights, Camera, Revolution"
era Suicidal Tendencies. It's a serious crossover record, sharpened by
countless tours over the past few years hitting Japan, Europe and US
repeated and relentlessly with dates for more global shows well into
next year being confirmed now.
RESTOCKS FOR 11/8/12:
