TENEMENT stream third track from "Bruised Music Volume One" on Stereogum

"There are tons of incredible bands whose music is just chilling on the top shelf of someone’s closet, collecting dust, because no one ever bothered to reissue it in another format. There’s a certain poetic beauty to that, sure, but if you’re a fan of a band and you can’t track down a song because whatever tape or 7″ it was released on was never uploaded to Bandcamp or whatever, then it’s not cool. It’s annoying. Tenement have been putting out physical albums for nearly a decade, and though the Wisconsin-based outfit is certifiably prolific, their available releases are numbered. The songs included on Bruised Music Volume One were selected from long since out of print EPs, splits, and 7″ records and have been remastered into a ten-track compilation, and we’ve already heard the first two singles, “Spaghetti Midwestern” and “The Fire Is Out.” “Morning Mouth” is the compilation’s latest offering, a spiraling two and a half minutes of theatrical frustration that dangles from the line, 'All I know is the world keeps turning, but I just keep falling down.'"

We have yet another track from the upcoming singles collection LP from Wisconsin's TENEMENT, "Morning Mouth," streaming over on Stereogum now. Morning Mouth originally appeared on the False Teeth 7", and it has been remastered and compiled with nine more early, out of print Tenement tracks on the Bruised Music Volume One LP collection, which will be out on March 10th on Grave Mistake and Toxic Pop Records.

Morning Mouth is the third track we have put up from this collection, and you can give "Spaghetti Midwestern" and "The Fire is Out" a listen as well if you haven't yet.

Tenement have just begun a several week East Coast tour with Don Giovanni Records artists PRIESTS and VACATION, and you can check out those dates below. The band will have copies of the Bruised Music LP with them on this tour, and we currently have the LP up for preorder through both Grave Mistake and Toxic Pop.

Preorders will begin shipping next week, and keep your eyes peeled for a full album stream coming up next week as well.

We are all very excited to get these remastered early Tenement tracks out into the world again, and are thrilled with the response this project has received thus far. Thank you to everyone who has preordered a copy, given these songs a listen, or helped us spread the word in any way.

"Tenement began in 2006 with a series of loose demo recordings and singles that married the genres of "Pop" and "Punk" without being explicitly "Pop Punk" and to many, represented the power and urgency of Hardcore without actually conforming to the genre itself.  These recordings have been compiled here on "Bruised Music Volume One," which covers Tenement's output on record between the years 2006 to 2009.  The influence of 80's punk is strong in the bulk of the material on Bruised Music, likening the feeling of the Descendents or The Replacements. However, this comparison might seem lazy when you keep in mind that the members of Tenement had long schooled themselves on everything from The Beatles to Big Star, Sun Ra, Coltrane, Black Flag, Husker Du; obscure hardcore punk to Brill Building pop music and all points in between.  The period of time represented in this collection is a period of growing pains that paved the way for them to become the band that they are today, and the band that they will be many years from now.  Bruised Music Volume One isn’t just for the super-fan looking for a peek into Tenement’s early years and the honing of their razor sharp song-craft, it also offers new listeners a great introduction to the band’s perfect blend of raw punk energy and undeniable pop hooks."

The first of two installments of singles collections from Wisconsin's Tenement, Bruised Music Volume One will feature the band's earliest material.  Compiling a total of ten tracks taken from the Tenement Sucks tape, Dead Broke and Dirt Cult Records mixtape compilations, split w/ Used Kids, split w/ Friendly Fire, False Teeth 7", and Icepick 7", all of the material has been remastered by Daniel Husayn at North London Bomb Factory for one cohesive and superb sounding anthology.

You can hear the remastered version of the song "Spaghetti Midwestern" streaming over at IMPOSE now alongside a quick interview about the release.

It is an honor for us to be able to get all of this early material back into print and in one place (including the first vinyl appearance for a handful of these songs), and we hope that this release will find its way into the ears of many more people who will enjoy and appreciate the formative years of a prolific, captivating, and truly inspiring band.

NEW RELEASE: RED DEATH "S/T" 7" now available for PREORDER

Last year, Washington DC's RED DEATH came out of the gate and obliterated everyone with one of the best hardcore demos of 2014. Their first recorded output channeled the sheer brutality and precision of crossover classics like Animosity, Cause for Alarm, and Best Wishes, without straying too far from the rawness and reckless abandon of hardcore punk. With their debut LP on the horizon (much more info on that in the coming months) and a decent amount of tour plans for 2015, it made perfect sense to get those demo tracks onto the 7" format where they arguably should have been in the first place.

What you get on this EP are four blistering cuts and a Discharge cover, all remastered for vinyl; the perfect introduction to one of the most promising hardcore bands going on the East Coast today.

We did 220 on limited CLEAR vinyl you can click HERE to preorder a copy in the Grave Mistake webstore.  These are scheduled to begin shipping February 16th, and the band will have copies on both their upcoming northeast weekend with AJAX and southern tour down to Badass Weekend III in Houston.
