WEBSTORE UPDATE: DISCLOSE Reissues, CHAIN RANK LP, new NERVOSAS LP, and MORE!

First bit of news, just got our hands on the second pressing of the RED DEATH Permanent Exile LP.  Luckily there was only about a week lag time between when the last copy of the first pressing went out the door and this repress arrived ... talk about good timing! We also finally bit the bullet and pressed up a CD version of this full length as well; so for those of you futuristic / technological heads keen to this digital format - today is your lucky day. And of course, all of you East Coasters be sure to check out Red Death this coming week as they will be on tour with POWER TRIP and FORESEEN. Those tour dates can be found in yesterday's TOUR UPDATE.

On the distro side of the webstore, happy to report that I snagged a nice little restock on the killer CHAIN RANK Up Against the Wall LP.  Some of you may have noticed that the batch I managed to grab from the band last month were gone within a few days.  That being said, I'm very excited to have this LP back in stock for those of you still needing to pick up a copy. All killer no filler - one of my favorite hardcore releases (and bands) of 2015 without a doubt.

Grabbed a few copies of the awesome DISCLOSE Tragedy LP and Yesterday's Fairytale, Tomorrow's Nightmare LP reissues from La Vida Es Un Mus - classic Japanese hardcore given the top notch reissue treatment, and well worth your hard earned cash.

Picked up a few copies of the brand spankin' new LP from Ohio's NERVOSAS - this band has generated some well deserved buzz over the past few years, and this new full length definitely does not disappoint. Also be sure to check out the newest single from NO PROBLEM 7" as well! This is the latest EP from these Cannucks, right up their with their previous output.

Other new titles in the store this week include the self released 7" from Minneapolis punks ZERO, EPs from URBAN SAVAGE and PUBLIC ASSAULT, and the newest LP from my new favorite pop punk band this week, Sacramento's DOG PARTY (grabbed a couple of copies of their previous LP as well). And of course, a few copies of the latest issue of MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL - essential reading material as always.

A small but notable list of restocks this week - a few staple EPs from Havoc Records (AUS ROTTEN, MOB 47), some hits from Dirtnap Records (both EXPLODING HEARTS LPs, that killer SPLITS LP from a few months back), and some more goodness from Deranged Records (finally restocked on the STOIC VIOLENCE Chained LP, plus a few favorite slabs from CULO, the INSTITUTE 12", and the GIVE singles collection).

Anyways - that's all, thanks for reading and have a great weekend!

New Webstore Titles for 7.24.15

CHAIN RANK "Up Against the Wall" LP (Side Two Records)
Self released debut LP from Chain Rank. 10 tracks of X-Claim Boston meets early NYHC without sounding stale. For fans of hardcore punk.

DISCLOSE "Yesterday's Fairytale, Tomorrow's Nightmare" LP (La Vida Es Un Mus Records)
180 Gram record housed in a paste on board sleeve. _Layer upon layer of noise and distortion, like ashes of nuclear apocalypse raining down. The final LP Disclose released, in 2004, captured the band at a high point. When other d-beat raw punk bands were running low on ideas, Kawakami reinvented the sound, incorporating more metallic influences like Broken Bones while still sticking assiduously close to the template. Originally released for Disclose's tour of the US west coast, 'Yesterday's Fairytale, Tomorrow's Nightmare' includes ten tracks and closes with a rampaging masterpiece, the 10-minute 'Wardead,' which exists on another astral plane from generic Discharge copyists. This authorized reissue reproduces the original artwork and includes a new insert with liner notes by Stuart Schrader.

DISCLOSE "Tragedy" LP (La Vida Es Un Mus Records)
180 Gram record housed in a paste on board sleeve. Indiscriminate cruelty to common people: the slogan could be about war or it could be about your eardrums while listening to 'Tragedy.' Disclose's first LP is a landmark of cacophonous, guitar-forward noisy hardcore. Heavily influenced by classic 80s Swedish raw punk, these fifteen songs perfect the unrelenting formula as only Kawakami could. Originally released in Japan on the cult label Overthrow in 1994, this reissue restores the fierce original mix two decades later. It differs from the mix on later represses hailing from Uppsala, where Swedish bombshelter-dwellers keep the flame alive. This authorized reissue reproduces the original artwork, with insert. Crack your brain up!

NERVOSAS "S/T (Second)" LP (Dirtnap Records)
Second self titled album (first for Dirtnap) from hard-touring Ohio dark-punks. An improvement on their (also awesome) first album in every way. The fast songs are meaner and more aggressive, the slower songs are more textured and atmospheric. Impeccable recording, truly impressive musicianship (not a compliment you’ll hear us at Dirtnap throw around very often) and songwriting inspiration to burn. This goes way, way beyond the “punk kids playing post punk” thing going around these days. Fits in perfectly on the darker end of the Dirtnap Records spectrum, alongside such fine company as The Estranged, The Splits, Autistic Youth. Truly an important and epic mind-bender of an album.

NO PROBLEM "Kid Killer" 7" (Deranged Records)
KID KILLER is the follow up EP to their great ALREADY DEAD LP, three new tracks of blistering dark hardcore, same formula, same hit potential!

ZERO "Mirror" 7" (Self Released)
ZERO has an influence of japanese punk, not in the rather trendy noisy style that is pervasive today, but drawing on older bands such as Gastunk as well as Burning Spirits groups like Death Side and Judgement. Being from Minneapolis, a notable fusion of a classic darker Minneapolis crusty style is present at times, ending up with a pummeling 7" with an emphasis on song writing and feeling, but also darkness and "raging-ness". Recorded at A Harder Commune by Matt Castore from Condominium and mastered at Enormous Door.

DOG PARTY "Vol. 4" LP (Asian Man Records)
While most of us spent our teenage years popping zits and generally just being very awkward, Sacramento sisters Lucy and Gwen Giles put their youthful energy to good use. Together, they formed the band Dog Party in 2007, and quickly got down to business doling out brash and roaring rock à la The Ramones and The Buzzcocks.  Still in their teens, this is their 4th full length release which for any band is quite an accomplishment.

DOG PARTY "Lost Control" LP (Asian Man Records)
Hailing from Sacramento, Ca., Dog Party consists of sisters Lucy and Gwendolyn Giles. Although both are still in high school, they’ve been playing music since 2005. Gwendolyn (guitars, vocals) is 17 and Lucy (drums, vocals) is 14. They starting playing music together at the insanely young age of 6(Lucy) and 9(Gwendolyn), respectively. Both play a multitude of instruments, but their live show consists of Lucy on drums and Gwendolyn on guitar with both sisters sharing lead vocal duties. Tons of harmonies, great melodies, and solid playing make these teen sisters sound like they’ve been touring for years. Their third full length is titled Lost Control. 13 tracks recorded at the Hangar by Chris Woodhouse (Devandra Banhart, FM Knives, A-Frames). The new album dives into a more focused punk rock feel influenced by the likes of X, the Ramones, and with a nod to nineties bands like Tiger Trap and Cub. They even pay homage to X by covering Los Angeles. It’s hard to believe that two young sisters would geek out over meeting Exene Cervenka versus Katy Perry. Maybe there is hope for rock and roll? SPIN says: “They draw a line from the Shangri-Las to the Ramones to Best Coast” IMPOSE mag says: “This short track is scuzzy, fun, and crisply paced, and with a lighthearted vocal that jumps through overdubs happily, the topics of being cold at the movie theater and parsing through small talk have never sounded more compelling.”

STOIC VIOLENCE "Chained" LP (Deranged Records)
Stoic Violence is a Long Beach, CA based band who formed in 2011. Stoic Violence play a stripped down, caustic, and spite fueled style of hardcore/punk. Stoic Violence's sound is primitive, rough around the edges, and completely unapologetic. Chained is the band's latest seven song 12 which is set for release April 12th, 2014 via Deranged and Video Disease records. Cassette copies of the cassette are being taken care of by Overdose records. On their latest 12", Stoic Violence offer up seven tracks of dirty, scathing, and knuckle dragging hardcore that's sure to make fans of Brainkiller, Hoax, and No Class take notice. Stoic Violence's sound features buzzsaw guitars, rapid drumming, and venomously spat vocals. Overall, Chained kicks-ass on so many levels. Highly recommended! Enjoy!" - MANIC COMPRESSION

URBAN SAVAGE "S/T" 7" (Foreign Legion Records)
Locked away in a basement in Sweden, this band of degenerates started piecing together riffs that had more in common with early USHC and No Future punk than it did with the jerky riffs of their Scandinavian brethren. Malmo is a post-industrial town where the working class struggles for both work and an identity, and their orphaned sons URBAN SAVAGE reflect that desperation as well as the degradation of one's own faith in the society that has been built around them. Their sound is nomadic; a blistering cacophony of boots on streets and tight, organic rhythms.  Their aesthetic references all come from the darker side of punk in its variety of styles. The aggressive back-beat of Negative Approach and the driving guitar of Blitz come through at equal levels, creating a sound that is honed in on an idea more than a sound. The production on this 4 song 7" is thicker than their previous effort (last year's 'Let Thunder Roar' LP, only released in Sweden), and the scope is deeper. In the end, this is music about one thing. This is music for the unattached. This is music for savages.

PUBLIC ASSAULT "No Way Out" 7" (Foreign Legion Records)
Young guns from Northwest Indiana playing early Dischord Records riffs the way they should be played; with absolutely no regard for anyone. In a (literal) state of Neo-Nazis, economic collapse, and no future, these four teens are writing music that reflects the fact that while some kids are growing up looking at Facebook and a college education, the land that America forgot is raising children destined to a steel mill that will be closing before they are even old enough to drink. No hope, no future, oi, oi, oi?

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #387 - AUG 2015 (MRR)
It’s time for Maximum Rocknroll #387, the August 2015 issue! Philadelphia’s SHEER MAG discuss livin’ in the city and their new record, CADAVER EM TRANSE (featuring a member of RAKTA) talk about life in the concrete jungle of São Paolo, and JUANITA Y LOS FEOS give us a taste of life in Madrid. The mind behind BUCK BILOXI AND THE FUCKS and GIORGIO MURDERER provides a window into his madness through a two-part interview with Eric Oblivian and Layla Gibbon. The NO-TALENTS prepare for their upcoming reunion tour, Stockholm’s DATA CONTROL still love HÜSKER DÜ, and Bob Suren and the VICTIM PARTY reflect on growing older in punk. And Aklasan Records talks Filipino hardcore distribution and promotion in the United States! Plus, a photo spread from Boston’s Smash It Dead fest by Angela Owens and a cover by Cretins of Distortion creator and MRR columnist Emmy Ramone. And, as always, all the columnists you love to hate and the most extensive record, book, zine, demo and film review sections in punk print!

WEBSTORE UPDATE: Releases from RADIOACTIVITY, HURULA, SHEER MAG, BLAZING EYE, and More!

A ton of new titles have come into the webstore over the past few weeks so here's a quick recap for you … no label talk on this update, just gonna get straight to the new stuff!

NEW DISTRO TITLES FROM RADIOACTIVITY, HURULA, BLAZING EYE, SHEER MAG, TERRIBLE FEELINGS, ANASAZI, AND MORE!

You can see all of the latest Webstore additions and New Arrivals here

I didn't realize how much had come in since the last update until I began putting this one together! First off, don't forget to check out the restock list - it's pretty jam packed with some old favorites and current hits that sold out quickly the first time around (including a bunch of restocks from La Vida Es Un Mus like the RIXE 7", BARCELONA LP, DISASTER LP reissue, and a few more).  That full list is at the end of this email.

Anyways, new stuff; the second LP from RADIOACTIVITY is in stock now, a great follow up to their debut; Two new swedish jams courtesy of Deranged Records, those being the new HURULA 12" and the second full length from TERRIBLE FEELINGS; FINALLY was able to get my hands on a few copies of the awesome AGNOSTIC FRONT "No One Rules" LP - it's another fine reissue from the folks at Radio Raheem, and the accompanying booklet is worth the price of admission alone.

Speaking of reissues, picked up a couple of bangers from LVEUM (THE SQUATS 7" is especially recommended), not to mention UK pressings of the BLAZING EYE 7" and second SHEER MAG 7" for those of you who have been having trouble getting your hands on the US pressings. Also grabbed a couple of copies of the latest NO LP as well!

Grabbed two of the newest singles from Lumpy Records; THE WARDEN 7" and BLACK PANTIES 7" … a few copies of the ANASAZI / SURVIVAL split, a few new React! Records titles like the STRAIGHT RAZOR 7", the BREAK AWAY LP, ANCIENT HEADS 7", and SUSPECT LP … the killer BROKEN BONES singles LP from Havoc … a handful of great releases from Graveface records including the bulk of the WHIRR catalog as well as some other cool releases from bands like DOTT and NIGHT SCHOOL … a few releases from CREEPOID, including their latest LP and first two full lengths as well … also grabbed a few rad demo tapes from NYC HEADHUNTERS, MAD EXISTENCE, and HARM DONE so check those out as well.

Oh, and for those still looking for the CHAIN RANK LP ... our first batch came and went pretty damn quick but there should be a restock next week for sure. Definitley one of my favorite LP's of the summer so far, so be sure to check it out.

That's it for now, check out the full list below and then go pick up some records!

Thanks for reading.

New Webstore Titles for July 10, 2015:

RADIOACTIVITY "Silent Kill" LP
(Dirtnap Records)
Seems pretty safe to assume that almost no one doubted Radioactivity's ability to follow up their 2013 Dirtnap debut with something equally stunning. Frontman and chief songwriter Jeff Burke (The Marked Men, The Reds, The Potential Johns) has certainly done more than enough to earn that kind of expectation and pressure. But Silent Kill, which finds Burke backed by Marked Men compatriot Mark Ryan and two-thirds of Bad Sports (Daniel Fried and Gregory Rutherford), does more than merely match the virtues of its self-titled predecessor.  Although the twelve songs on Silent Kill abide one strict rule--providing garage punk pleasure at all costs--Radioactivity bend that mandate in myriad ways. Breathless ragers like "Battered" and "No Alarm" are as fleet and raw as anything in the combined canon of Radioactivity's members, while mid-tempo heartbreakers "Way Out," "Connection" and "Where I Come From" find Burke and company opening up their sound to let in a little tenderness. And then there are songs like "Not Here" or "With You," which enact perfect unions of melody and kinetic energy. Admirers of Burke's legacy will be not only satisfied, but pleasantly surprised.

HURULA "Betongbarn" LP (Deranged Records)
Four years after the end of his punk band Masshysteri, Robert Hurula returned with a solo album under his last name: Vi Ar Människorna Som Vara Foraldrar Varnade Oss For. The LP achieved wide acclaim in Hurula’s native Sweden and cult adoration in the U.S. Hurula follows that album with the Betongbarn 12”. Three new songs and a cover cut through the ever-present tension of daily life to make us scream and fight. All the songs bursts with conviction, feeling like revenge on a junior high bully. Hurula knows how to craft a hook, like Husker Du or fellow Swedes Jonas Game or Terrible Feelings. “Ge oss natt som ar sant” cuts John Lennon’s “Gimme Some Truth” in half and morphs it into a rager with classic 1960’s girl group-style harmonies.

TERRIBLE FEELINGS "Tremors" LP
(Deranged Records)
Terrible Feelings – Manuela, Anton, and Andy – from Malmö, Sweden have existed since 2009. Like so many others before them, the band sprung out of late parties, drunken philosophical discussions, punk rock, power pop, and friendship.  To date, the band has released four 7”s and one full length album. They’ve embarked on several full European tours and two US tours (one on each coast), and have played such far and wide locations as Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, to almost every squat in Germany. They’ve shared stages with bands such as The Raveonettes, Imperial State Electric, Fucked Up, Jeff the Brotherhood, White Lung, and The Babies; and were handpicked by none other than Refused as support in both Europe and Sweden on their final tour.  Musically Terrible Feelings has been described as proto punk, dark power pop and gloomy surf, with a tint of both country and 70s hard rock. All descriptions are correct. It’s rock 'n' roll.  April 2015 will see the dawn of “Tremors”, the band’s second full length. Recorded by Joakim from MF/MB/, mastered by Linus from Element (GOAT, etc), and with stunning artwork by Robert Hurula. The band has managed to plow through 4 bass players and are currently employing their 5th. Plans for US tours are in the gears. The band sounds better than ever and is ready for their second coming.

AGNOSTIC FRONT "No One Rules" LP (Radio Raheem Records)
Radio Raheem proudly presents this collection of long lost material from New York's #1 hardcore band, available here for the first time on (fully authorized) vinyl. The LP includes 34 tracks across two different recording sessions, the first predating the United Blood 7" and the second recorded just before the Victim In Pain LP. In addition, we dug deep into the NYHC vaults and assembled a massive 48-page, full color booklet, containing over 150 archival images tracing the band's early history from their start in 1982 until the end of their first nationwide tour in 1985 — some you may have seen before, but many have never seen the light of day until now — as well as commentary from members of the early NYHC scene.

ANASAZI / SURVIVAL "Communion" Split LP (Self Released)
In 2013, NYC goth punk/post-punk bands Anasazi and Survival (who both share members) convened in a member's solar to record what might be the wildest recording of each band. Without the pressures or constraints of a studio, each band recorded demo tracks of future studio recordngs, though none of these songs ever sounded as insane as these sessions. The LP cover is an updated version of the cassette over with copies coming with a special surprise.

VULTURES, THE "S/T" 7"
(La Vida Es Un Mus Records)
Official reissue of another of the scarcest Dutch punk records that was listed in the top 25 European punk rarities in Record Collector. THE VULTURES hailed from Epe, in the middle of the Dutch Bible-Belt. They recorded this 4 Track EP in 1981 that overtime has became impossible to find. Which is a shame as it is simply a masterpiece of Dutch Punk. Loud, proud and snotty, the sound is based around a trademark chainsaw guitar tone, plodding bass, passionate vocals and overall a clear UK influence. Without doubt if this band was english they would have been on Riot City, Rot or Secret Records or seen supporting the MAU MAUS, THE EXPLOITED or both DISORDER's (Bristol and North East). Reissued replicating the artwork as originally printed but adding a few unseen full colour pictures on the reverse sleeve.

SQUATS, THE "Noise Overdose" 7" (La Vida Es Un Mus Records)
Official reissue of one of the scarcest Dutch punk records. Hailing from Nijmegen Squats were popular from simply being a bunch of punks which loved to fuck shit up. Raised on a steady diet of SHAM 69 and COCKNEY REJECTS which they covered on their demo tape it is a mystery what happened to them before recording their 'Noise Overdose', in my eyes simply a perfect teenage inept punk record. The five tracks within this EP are catchy, aggressive and exemplifies perfectly how the second wave of punk had spread everywhere by 1981 and the influence of what we now call UK82 was really present. Reissue maintaining the original design of the artwork except for the size which made most original copies in circulation in poor condition due to its oversize nature

BLAZING EYE "S/T (UK Pressing)" 7" (La Vida Es Un Mus Records)
Originally released in USA on Los Angeles based Overdose Records and selling both presses of the record immediately. LVEUM finally makes BLAZING EYE's debut EP available in Europe in preparation of what we hope will be BLAZING EYE tour next year.  Hailing from Los Angeles BLAZING EYE sound lay somewhere between ZOUO, THE SEXUAL and QLOAQA LETAL. That is Japanese inspired hardcore punk with demonic vocals and hard as nail beats which is extremely hard to shake once you hear it. The four distorted tracks on this EP mix perfectly the low end reverb soaked Japanese influences with the best of the International Hardcore Punk of the early 80's. Making it a masterpiece of timeless punk.

SHEER MAG "II (UK Pressing)" 7"
(Static Shock Records)
In 2014, Sheer Mag seemingly came out of nowhere with what was probably our favorite release of the year, debuting, straight to vinyl, their brand of hard rock-inspired power pop perfection. This time around, expectations are unreasonably high, but guess what? Sheer Mag don't care!  Out from under this table, these Philly miscreants return stronger than ever, this time toning down (ever so slightly) the power pop undertones that got them comparisons to the Shivvers (female vocals?) and putting the rock in the forefront. Still, the band could pass as the Jackson 5 re-imagined as a punk trash compactor and this record stands tall as what will definitely be the hard rock record of the year.

NO "Treating People Like They Don't Exist" LP (La Vida Es Un Mus Records)
London's NO finally unleash their third vinyl offering. 8 songs in barely 13 minutes. Ferocious dissonant hardcore focused in intensity and all-out rage. Non stop hardcore showing the band at their peak. References to Midwest USA hardcore are often used to describe NO but while not completely off the mark they are just one of the many points of reference for this rather complicated band. NO are another living proof of how great the current UK hardcore crop is.  The album comes in a full colour sleeve designed by the greatest Ralph Simmonds and including a heavy weight 11"x11" lyric insert.

BLACK PANTIES "S/T" 7" (Lumpy Records)
3 songs from the leather crybaby prince. Hand stamped center labels.

WARDEN, THE "S/T" 7" (Lumpy Records)
Not too far off from what a 3rd Sweet Tooth 7" would have sounded like. The beefy kings of hardcore in St Louis.

BROKEN BONES "A Single Decade" LP (Havoc Records)
Broken Bones formed after several members left Discharge. They had a similar sound, and like Discharge moved in a more metal direction over the next few years. Broken Bones quickly moved to the front rank of the then production UK hardcore punk scene. Broken Bones mixed the raw drive of early hardcore punk with the power of metal to move into the forefront of the then burgeoning Crossover scene. This LP compiles the bands best tracks from their 1980's singles. It's the vinyl version of a CD which has been out for several years.

STRAIGHT RAZOR "S/T" 7" (React! Records)
Straight Razor is New Bedford's preeminent hardcore outfit, cutting deep with 8 new tracks of razor sharp snarl. Featuring members of The Rival Mob, CIAC, Wolf Whistle and Raindance.

BREAK AWAY "Face Aggression" LP
(React! Records)
Break Away is a straight edge hardcore band founded in Richmond, VA in 2010. Honing their style over time, Break Away brings a modern interpretation to the sound of traditional hardcore. In these times many bands that choose to fly the straight edge banner do it in a way that is passive and relaxed. Break Away is anything but relaxed on their convictions and exclaims their stance with intensity and power. Their debut LP "Face Aggression" comes at you like an avalanche, unrelenting and strong.

ANCIENT HEADS "It Can't Rain Forever" 7"
(React! Records)
Ancient Heads formed in Toronto in 2012 with a simple but ambitious goal: to play straight-edge hardcore that’s as direct as Floorpunch, as ineffably powerful as Chain of Strength, and as timeless and durable as both bands. Three years later, with the release of their debut EP, It Can’t Rain Forever, they’ve pulled it off. Seven real hardcore songs, riffs that won’t make you roll your eyes, mosh parts that deserve to be referred to as such, plainspoken lyrics that attest to the courage of the band’s convictions — you just don’t hear straight-edge records like this anymore. Violent bravado? Disingenuous politics? Adolescent melodrama? Never that. Ancient Heads is a band without insecurity or pretense, and It Can’t Rain Forever is a record that any hardcore kid with integrity and a sense of history will immediately recognize as the real thing.

SUSPECT "S/T EP" LP
(React! Records)
Suspect is members of Tear it Up, Deep Sleep, Find Him and Kill Him, and Stay Gold playing hardcore. 10 songs, recorded by Dan Maier. Taking the overt Midwest HC influences on the demo from 2011 and adding elements of classic Southern California hardcore such as Uniform Choice, Suspect has produced a true hardcore ripper. Hardcore rules. Stay punk.

VERTIGO "S/T" 7" (Tadpole Records)
The sun is out and here’s some rousing punk from Spain’s Vértigo, who follow up their cracking demo with these 4 new stick-in-your-head numbers. They keep it simple, with basic chord structures, punchy vocals, and catchy choruses. Had me thinking Crosta jamming on No Hope For The Kids, with Warsaw whirring away in the background. But hey, what do I know! The moody ‘Inoren Inon’ is especially great and for some reason I kept half expecting Jeff Pezzati to chip in on vocals. A great job by Tadpole for sticking this EP out and further exposing some cool Spanish sounds.

SAND IN THE FACE "Music Made to Riot 1982-83" LP (Mad at the World Records)
This LP compiles the very earliest recordings of Montville, New Jersey’s Sand in the Face. The demos, largely recorded at Boonton, NJ’s Mix-o-Lydian Studios, features the band’s pre-LP line-up, containing a young, pre-Chrome Crank Peter ‘Aaron’ Wegele on bass, who also contributes extensive liner notes for the record. Note that Mix-o-Lydian is the studio that gave us the Misfits’ “Walk Among Us” not much earlier. Sand in the Face were one of the first wave of New Jersey’s hardcore bands, and contemporaries with the likes of Adrenalin OD and Bedlam. Mike Judge, the singer of late-'80s New York hardcore band Judge, attended the same high school as members of Sand in the Face and credits them with inspiring him to start his own band. Musically, it’s disaffected suburban teenage thrash of the best variety. If you’re familiar with the likes of Buy Our Records or Mutha Records, you know the pedigree. Limited to a one-time pressing of 600 copies.

CREEPOID "Cemetery Highrise Slum" LP (Collect Records)
After two albums for No Idea and countless miles logged on tour, Cemetery Highrise Slum finds a home at Collect and marks the beginning of a new moment for Creepoid—one that’s expansive but intimate, refined but raw, realistic but hopeful. Not many records find the cohesion in the distance, but Creepoid travels through it artfully, never losing sight of the song.

CREEPOID "Horse Heaven" LP (No Idea Records)
Philadelphia's CREEPOID mine the quiet side of breathy acoustic / slowcore, then erupt into heavy, hard hitting distortion, all within the course of their debut album "Horse Heaven," and sometimes within a single song. We reckon that CREEPOID have an appreciation for Nick Cave, Mazzy Star, Red House Painters, and Spain, as well as a compulsion for old records, analog recording gear, and late night hours spent in dank basements. Recommended for fans of Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Yo La Tengo, and My Bloody Valentine.

CREEPOID "S/T" LP
(No Idea Records)
The veteran punk label No Idea has always been more eclectic than people give it credit for. But Creepoid is something altogether novel. The young, co-ed Philadelphia quartet knows full well how to crank up the distortion--but it does so in service of a dreamy, drifting, wistful indie-rock. That said, Creepoid's debut full-length, Horse Heaven, isn't some polished piece of car-commercial fodder; just raw and snaky enough to feel eerily unhinged, the disc simmers like vat of molasses as the vocals of guitarist Sean Miller and bassist Anna Troxell build to a sweet, black oblivion

WHIRR "Pipe Dreams" LP
(Graveface Records)
WHIRR's celestial sound has been described as "if My Bloody Valentine decided to cooperate with Sonic Youth" and has drawn comparison to influential acts such as Slowdive, Lush, Ride and The Cocteau Twins. With Pipe Dreams, the band's supercharged spirit rejuvenates the '90s shoegaze sound, providing a widescreen update for the post-millennial era.  WHIRR's wall of lush guitars, breathy vocals, dreamy synth and thunderous drumming propel listening ears into a near-cinematic realm where instantly catchy melodies and emotional, enveloping atmospheres hang perfectly in the balance.  The sound of WHIRR is a totalizing crush when texture and volume hit perfect balance and bright pop melodies wander through dark, dense guitar noise.  Twenty years after My Bloody Valentine awed music fans with its now-classic "Loveless" LP, WHIRR takes hold of the reins and let's its fluid, immaculate surge of drones and reverberations light the way.

WHIRR "Distressor" LP (Graveface Records)
Whirr's spirit rejuvenates the '90s shoegaze sound, providing a widescreen update for the post-millennial era. A wall of lush

WHIRR "Around" LP (Graveface Records)
Northern California's WHIRR (formerly Whirl) make an effects-laden noise that is as blatantly loud and heavy as it is beautiful, giving the sounds of 90's shoegaze a widescreen update for the post-millennial era. The young sextet's wall of lush guitars, breathy vocals, dreamy synth and thunderous drumming propel listeners into a near-cinematic realm where instantly catchy melodies and emotional, enveloping atmospheres hang in perfect balance.

WHIRR "Sway" LP (Graveface Records)
When Sway begins, you might at first press pause, reaching for your headphone wire or peeking behind your speaker cables to make sure nothing has come undone. The blister of distorted guitar that opens the album comes only from the right channel, howling and hanging there in irascible isolation until it seems that something must be wrong. But be patient: After a dozen seconds, the rest of Whirr—a five-piece of blanketing rock focus and comforting pop finesse—pours in from the left channel. They meet the guitar in the middle, together racing headlong into a short section that’s heavy as metal but pliable enough to be the springboard for the galloping shoegaze beauty that soon arrives.

DOTT "Button" 7" (Graveface Records)
Dublin’s Popical Island collective have a shiny, brand new bouncing addition to the family in the shape of Galway band Dott. Sporting the same girl-girl-girl-boy line-up as Kenickie and The Breeders – the ridiculous to the sublime – the band does indeed share the exuberant energy of the former but not, one hopes the same fate. I’m sure the band themselves will be the first to admit the debt the songs on their debut EP ‘Button’ owe to the Spector stable of girl-groups, much like Dublin contemporaries September Girls or indeed The Pipettes a few years ago. With this confection, Dott have taken the well-worn formula and injected it with such lo-fi fun that…well that you’ll run off and put on your Shangri-La’s and Runaways records straight after. Contained within ‘Button’ are songs of angst, longing, love, sex, rebellion and all the teen emotions – only the good ones mind – your average John Hughes film, or Grease, can muster. A sweet vocal and fuzzy guitar introduces Seen You Lately before the band steps it up a gear into a catchy foot-tapper, briefly dropping a familiar drumbeat in amongst the harmonies. Let’s Do It displays a faint lipstick trace of The Cure’s Friday I’m In Love on its collar, but that’s okay because Dott are in love too.  Leave Tonight is a winner all round with its irresistible “OO-EE-OO” chorus and subject matter that girl bands have been documenting since the origin of the Teenager. And there had to be a song with cherry in the title somewhere – Cherry Blossom tops things of with its allusions to cherries and blossoming. ‘Button’ is a timely release – a perfect accompaniment to these balmy summer evenings, and a nice pre-cursor to a long-player to take us well into the night.

DOTT "Swoon" LP (Graveface Records)
Ireland’s not the first place you’re likely to consider when you think of sunny, hook-heavy garage pop, but clearly someone in the Emerald Isle has been digging through the old Beach Boy records.  Swoon, the debut from this Irish indie quartet, is simply impossible to not like instantly for all but the hardcore jaded out there. It would be easy to name check bands like Best Coast in trying to describe their sound, but Dott actually hues closer vocally to bands like the aforementioned Beach Boys and The Hollies, but with female a singer, and with guitars and drumming that borrows from garage bands of the same era.  A dozen tracks in all and the album breezes by effortlessly, over before you realize it. With their first outing the band has managed to come up with something comfortingly familiar, yet still wholly original. I’m not sure how a small indie label from Georgia stumbled on the band, but it certainly bodes well for the tastemakers at Graveface Records

DOTT / NIGHT SCHOOL Split 12" (Graveface Records)
Fitting together perfectly on this split 12" Carousel are the shiny, harmony-driven garage pop/rock melodies of Ireland's Dott and Northern CA's Night School. Though hailing from opposite sides of the Atlantic, the music from these two groups is a match made in... well... Savannah, GA, home to shared label Graveface Records.  Night School recorded their contribution with Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden in Oakland while Dott worked with Jonathan Nuñez of Torche in Miami. The four tracks (two from each band) are on side A with a B-side etching and the RSD exclusive release is limited to 1000 copies.

NIGHT SCHOOL "Heart Beat" 7" (Graveface Records)
Because I had nothing better to do. When a coincidental event turns into a landmark moment, sometimes you have to acknowledge its random significance. This seems to be the case for northern California three piece Night School. Already accomplished singer Alexandra Morte (Whirr, Camera Shy) was at work on some new material, but was having trouble finding a drummer. Enter Baylie Arin, the pair integrate song ideas, and plot their first EP.  That EP took six hours to record. The songs were bounced back-and-forth between Morte and Arin, who contributed various alternative synth, post-punk, and shoegaze elements. Recorded, mixed, and mastered at Atomic Garden in Palo Alto by Jack Shirley, that six hour session produced Heart Beat; four tracks of pure bliss rock inspired by the sad love songs of 1960’s girl groups like The Shirelles, The Crystals, and The Shangri-las. After the recording of Heart Beat, Sarah Trevena, a friend of Arin's, was asked to join Night School as lead guitarist. Night School’s spontaneous debut fuses garage-rock sounds with the intimacy and soul of the previously mentioned artists. It is as if by total coincidence that Night School was even formed and these songs were written. I’m glad they didn’t have anything better to do.

STARGAZER LILLIES, THE "We are the Dreamers" LP (Graveface Records)
Kim Field and John Cep are The Stargazer Lilies. They are frequently accompanied live by either drummer EJ DeCoske or Johnny Lancia.  Through their musical history as a duo dream pop/shoegaze/psychedlic song writing team. They have released 3 albums as the band Soundpool and are about to release their second album as The Stargazer Lilies.  Their debut release as The Stargazer Lilies “We Are The Dreamers” was released on Graveface Records in late 2013.

MAD EXISTENCE Demo Tape (Ten Feet Tall Records)
