The first release on the new and improved VINYL CONFLICT RECORD LABEL is out now! The raging debut 7" E.P. from Richmond, VA's BARGE is out now and available for mailorder in the GRAVE MISTAKE WEBSTORE (we've got some limited RED VINYL available!) and available for wholesale through Grave Mistake as well so please feel free to hit me back if you'd like copies for your store or distro. Here is the info on the release:

VC-001: BARGE "No Gain E.P." 7"
Richmond, VA's BARGE finally deliver the highly anticipated follow up to their 2012 demo with the raging "NO GAIN E.P.!"  Clocking in eight tracks at just under nine minutes (for those of you with short attention spans), this debut EP brings the blistering speed and ferocity of classics like INFEST and NO COMMENT, while laying you out flat with heavy breaks reminiscent of classic early 80's Boston.  BARGE's intensity both live and on record are the reason they are one of the best new hardcore bands coming out of RVA these days, and it's about time for everyone else to hear why!  This release also marks the beginning of the new and improved, locals-only VINYL CONFLICT LABEL!

You can check out a couple of tracks from the 7" over at the GRAVE MISTAKE BANDCAMP PAGE

BARGE also has a couple of Richmond shows coming up, including a Record Release show in a few weeks ...

04.22.13 @ Kingdom w/ POWER TRIP (TX), VIOLENT REACTION (UK), HOUNDS OF HATE, FRIEND OR FOE, BARGE (Record Release!)

06.12.13 @ The Green Room w/ STAB (UK / Painkiller Rex), BARGE, DEVIL'S HAND, BLIND IGNORANCE

The VINYL CONFLICT RECORD LABEL is a joint collaboration between myself and Vinyl Conflict Record Store owner Bobby Egger.  The label, originally started by Vinyl Conflict / No Way Records founders Brandon and Lauren Ferrell, was created to document what was going on here in Richmond, VA.  Bobby took over the shop in March of 2012, and we decided it would be a good idea to bring back the label!  The BARGE 7" is our first release, the debut 7" from DEVIL'S HAND is right around the corner, and we have a few more things planned for 2013 so stay tuned!

Some other quick GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS news before I go ...

In addition to the BARGE 7", we've got a few more new releases right around the corner! If all goes as planned, we will have the SICKOIDS "No Home" 12" and SECTARIAN VIOLENCE "Upward Hostility" LP available in less than two weeks (as well as have copies at DAMAGED CITY FEST in DC on the 12th and 13th).  You can also stream the SECTARIAN VIOLENCE LP in full over at GLUEHC.COM!  We were also able to get copies of the STRIKING DISTANCE "March to your Grave" LP reissue for UNITED BLOOD fest here in Richmond last weekend, and we will have those available at Damaged City fest as well! After that, we've got the US pressing of the KREMLIN "Will You Feed Me?" 7" slated for late April, and mid May will see the release of the BIG EYES "Almost Famous" LP/CD!!! We've got tracks from most of these new releases streaming over on the GM Bandcamp page, so check em out! A few more releases that we've mentioned earlier slated for this spring / summer as well but more on those later ...

GRAVE MISTAKE BANDS ON TOUR!

Finally, we've got some Tours coming up! BIG EYES are currently three days into their West Coast Tour w/ CRIMINAL CODE, THE SHIRKS leave for tour this weekend, and KREMLIN leaves for tour later this month. I've also gotten word that the NIGHT BIRDS and SECTARIAN VIOLENCE tours, which are wrapping up soon, have been a blast so thanks to everyone who made that possible!

BARGE "NO GAIN E.P." 7" (VINYL CONFLICT)

CULO "MY LIFE SUCKS AND I COULD CARE LESS" LP (DERANGED)
"Okay, 1st off, the LP is NOT called 'The Return of Culo', look at the spine of the LP for proof of that. But in a sense, its almost a return record since the guys took a good amount of time prepping it. This LP was recorded over a weekend in mid March 2012 with their man of choice Kevin up in Lansing MI. This is definitely not a concept record, but it can almost be called a 'time and place' record since the album is a reflection of everything in the band's life when writing it, but what bands don't? If you only loved the fast stuff the band has done before, that's still present on tracks here but also the band offers more variety then ever before. To be blunt, the fast songs are faster, the mid tempo tracks are more punchy and the the rest are just downright catchy as hell. I see the 'Ramones songs made ugly' as a comparison nowadays made about a select few, and finally someone's pulls it off, even though the boys go for their own thing but that certain band is a large influence. This is a true PUNK record. And damn John's voice almost is an exact cross of Jerry and John Brannon, its so eerie the semblance. This album was just meant to happen and even if its release experienced a few delays, it's a timeless record. Nothing was spared from the record down to the look, layout and quality and what you get sounds excellent. So sit back, grab something to drink (or supply to any other habit you may have) and enjoy all that is Culo.''

RIVAL MOB, THE "MOB JUSTICE" LP (REVELATION)
Drawn up by some of the most unsavory souls in the Boston, MA underground hardcore scene and reinforced by members who have done time in infamous area bands like Mind Eraser, Righteous Jams, Mental, XfilesX and many others, The Rival Mob have become the darlings of the current hardcore scene, inspiring shameless violence and playing high on the bill at the most important hardcore festivals in America: This Is Hardcore in Philadelphia, Sound And Fury in California, and Chaos in Tejas in Austin, TX. In between serving time with their current other projects World War 4, Give, No Tolerance, and Boston Strangler, the band will be playing on both coasts highlighted once again by the big summer festivals as well as their first-ever trip across the Atlantic to Europe. The band's Revelation Records debut picks up right where their previous EP, "Hardcore For Hardcore," left off, with vocalist Brendan Radigan spewing venom at the ills that plague both the outside world and the scene itself, all delivered over fast, stage dive-inspiring hardcore that brings to mind the best of mid-to-late '80s New York hardcore bands like Youth Of Today, Warzone, and Breakdown. Vinyl version includes digital download.

PISSED JEANS "HONEYS" LP (SUB POP)
Age and four full-lengths haven’t mellowed Pissed Jeans; they can still unleash a blare that will exfoliate your cochlea. Formed in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Pissed Jeans released Shallow, their first album, in 2005 on Parts Unknown Records. The band relocated to Philadelphia seven years ago, and Sub Pop released Hope for Men in 2007, and then King of Jeans in 2009. The latter was recorded by Grammy nominee Alex Newport, who also recorded Honeys.  Age and experience have, however, refined Pissed Jeans. Their ideas and execution have become more subtly focused. The songs on Honeys are direct without being obtuse, evocative without being vague, personal without being indulgent. They also rock like nobody’s business. Forget all the claptrap you’ve heard about other bands delivering the goods. If you want bloodthirsty, you’ve got it… At times Honeys is the sound of being bashed over the head with a snow shovel. At times the band slows down and sounds like waking from a nightmare you can’t quite remember. The songs are catchy, but in a way that would appeal to mental patients who only understand colors.  Honeys stews on the kind of mundane, niggling things that keep you up late at night. It’s an ode to the misery and shackles of being a responsible adult, and the shame of one’s own narcissism. Pissed Jeans trucks in menacing songs about insecurity, and nobody has ever done it better.

BRAIN VACATION "THE MUSICIANS" LP (WALL OF YOUTH)
Brain Vacation first appeared in 2008 as repulsive noise supposedly here from the post-apocalyptic future. Now that we’ve all survived 2012, BV re-emerges as an actual band from Chicago whose approach is a bit more tuneful but no less focused on the end of everything. Their new record takes full advantage of the fact that punk is whatever they make it to be — furious hardcore, upbeat pop, lumbering almost-metal — propelled by huge guitars and lots of yelling. This fearless sense of play makes it feel like the record could have been made 30 years ago by a group of Angeleno kids despite the fact that it was made a few months ago by a quartet of 30-year-old Anglo goons. Fuck Armageddon... This is The Musicians LP by Brain Vacation!  The LP (Wall of Youth’s first) is pressed on severely heavy 180 gram “molten core” colored vinyl and housed in a printed matte jacket with 2-sided lyric sheet/insert, shrink-wrapped for posterity and limited to 250 copies. Play at maximum volume for a real treat.

STRIKING DISTANCE "THE FUSE IS LIT" LP (BRIDGE 9)
Out of print since the mid-2000s, "The Fuse Is Lit" has undergone a deluxe re-treatment by Bridge Nine and will now be available on 12" LP. This re-issue features six studio tracks that originally appeared on the album on side A, and a great seven-song "Live At CBGB's" set from August 2001 (which perfectly captures the band's energy) on side B. All of the audio has been remastered specifically for vinyl by John Golden at Golden Mastering as part of Bridge Nine's 10th Anniversary Repress Series. Vinyl version includes digital download. COLORED VINYL!

AMERICA'S HARDCORE VOL. 2 - V/A - COMPILATION LP (TRIPLE B)
America's Hardcore" compilation series returns with 16 new tracks from the best up-and-coming bands along with tracks from some of hardcore's most iconic bands. Each song is new and exclusive to this compilation and comes complete with a 20-page, 11"x11" insert booklet featuring pages designed by each band. LP includes digital download. Featuring INTENT, BEWARE, OUTCROWD, RINGWORM, and many more!

MILK MUSIC "CRUISE YOUR ILLUSION" LP (SELF RELEASED)
Combining the driving hooks of the Wipers, slashing riffs of Husker Du, and melodic-on-the-edge-of-control vocals of early Dinosaur Jr., Milk Music reinvent early to mid '80s SST-style hardcore punk and '90s lo-fi Pacific Northwest influences for a new generation. Formed in Olympia, Washington, the band is comprised of singer/guitarist Alex Coxen, drummer Joe Rutter, guitarist Charles Warring, and bassist Dave Harris. A self-titled, self-released cassette offered in 2009 introduced listeners to their anthemic, thrashing sound, followed a year later bt the Beyond Living EP, which found a wider release in 2011 with the Perennial label. This, Cruise Your Illusion, is their full length debut for Fat Possum Records. All the familiar elements slightly borrowed from the above references are here by they've added some atmospheric fuzz-jams reminiscent of Neil Young and Crazy Horse and diversified their songwriting to add elements of offbeat songwriting like labelmate Townes Van Zandt. Singer Alex Coxen sounds as blazed as he does disenchanted with all things rule oriented.

ICEAGE "YOU'RE NOTHING" LP (MATADOR)
Just out of their teens, it seems Copenhagen's Iceage have only added to the anxiety and tension that made their debut album, New Brigade, so compelling. But now, they're challenging their raging emotions instead of simply expressing them. You're Nothing, Iceage's sophomore album, is the sound of a band pushing their singular mix of punk, Goth, hardcore, and postpunk to even further extremes. It's overwhelming how many ways Iceage have found to write the short aggressive rock song. When you see Iceage live you get the feeling the songs are just about to fall apart before miraculously recovering, always rewarding you with a climax. This menacing energy is more forceful on You're Nothing. It is a more epic sound, like a rough sea.

HUNX AND HIS PUNX "GAY SINGLES" LP (TRUE PANTHER SOUNDS)
"Despite the fact that Gay Singles is Hunx and His Punx's trashy-excellent first full-length, you may be familiar with the group's frontman Hunx, aka Seth Bogart, whether you know it or not. Perhaps you know him from his keyboard and vocal duties in Oakland's garishly theatrical, ambisexual band Gravy Train!!!!. Or perhaps you recognize him from his very naked appearance in the "hardcore" version of his labelmates Girls' "Lust For Life" video. Or maybe you're one of the fans that have been trolling eBay for the five hard-to-find, sold-out Hunx and His Punx singles that have been released (and just as quickly snapped up) over the past two years.  If you count yourself in the latter category, then you're in luck; this album collects the tunes from those 7”s, presenting them (along with new bonus track "Do the Make Up") together for the first time. If you count yourself in the first category, however, you may be quite surprised by Gay Singles." - pitchfork.com

THAWED OUT "S/T" LP (SHOGUN)
4 song 2012 unreleased session on A side, 5 song 2011 demo tape on B side. This band from Birmingham, UK is in league with Pollution, Total Abuse, Void.  Review of the 2011 demo tape by Slays for days blog in Australia : "Featuring members of Host (who we've featured before) and another UK band named No Reality, Thawed Out play a crusty and fucked up style of noisy hardcore similar to Cult Ritual or Total Abuse. The demo embraces its lo-fi sensibilities, which in turn works hand in hand with the band's downer punk style. A total of 5 songs, all of which are glazed with feedback and mid-tempo riffs. Lead breaks poke around on the demo, and are as you would expect - unpredictable and eccentric. Still, as ugly as this tries to be, it has an undeniable charm to it, one which will keep you coming back. This is for fans of the noisy hardcore making appearances lately, or simply old fuckheads who haven't given up on their United Mutation records."

COLTRANES, THE "VISIONS OF TERROR AND BLISS" LP (SHOGUN)
Vinyl version of 2 limited 100 CDEPs by this Temecula, CA band somewhere in between The Misfits, Fang, Merchandise and NASA Space Universe. Hardcore Punk with lo-fi kind of feel of the guitar and bass while the vocal style is mature, diverse and controlled. From the band: "There's not much to say about us. We're a three piece (Walt, Ernie, Otis) from out in the middle of the desert. We hate everybody, everybody hates us. It's hot as fuck out here and we get all the santa ana winds so we're losin our shit."

COLTRANES, THE "I'VE GOT HEAVEN IN MY SMILE" LP (SHOGUN)
Vinyl version of the limited to 100 copies 2011 CD by this Cali trio somewhere in between early Fang / The Misfits -the vocals-, Merchandise -noisy landscapes and atmospheres- and NASA Space Universe -original music mixing retro and modern Punk sounds. The album contains 14 songs. Heavy vinyl to boot. 500 copies.  Sorry State : “Debut LP from this really weird California band. Coming from the same label that brought you Nasa Space Universe and Inservibles, the Coltranes have a similarly unique sound. The vocalist kind of sounds like early Danzig, but the music is simple and spastic punk... something about it kind of reminds me of the Cramps, but it's also got a quirky, Die Kreuzen-ish rhythm to it as well. I realize that description probably makes no sense, but if you dig weird, original, and captivating HC check these guys out.”

LAPINPOLTHAJAT "WAHLROOSIN UNELMA" LP (SHOGUN)
From Rovaniemi, Finland, this second album plays a little less hardcore than the first one. The record sounds very classic from the very first notes and will be put away close to the ones by TRISTESS and YOUNG WASTENERS. Co-release with Kämäset Levyt and Roku.  Sorry state review: “2nd LP from this Finnish punk/HC band. I haven't heard their debut, but word is that they've gotten a bit more melodic on this releases... however they got here, I LOVE how this turned out. It reminds me a lot of the catchier end of 80s European HC... bands like Upright Citizens, Appendix, or maybe even Melakka. Modern bands like Hjerte Stop might also be an apt comparison, but this feels a little more authentic and less retro than that. At any rate, these guys know how to write a song while still keeping it intense and hardcore. This is a must for fans of new or old Finnish punk.”

DEATH CAMP "TEENAGE NIGHTMARE" 7" (BLACK REBEL)
Here it is folks, the debut vinyl release for both Death Camp and Black Rebel Records... Finally available after many delays. The band plays heavy, almost metallic H/C, with their influences ranging equally from stuff like Sheer Terror & Warzone as well as The Replacements, Suede & Sisters of Mercy. The record was recorded live (even vocals) in March 2012 with Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios. Comes with a stickered poly bag with the band info on it to take away some of the mystery of what the hell you're listening to! Rochester RN'R baby!

WAKE UP DEAD VOL. 1 - V/A - COMP 7" (BAD TEETH)
Get excited about current hardcore all over again with this 7" compilation of 6 American bands featuring THE REPOS, CURMUDGEON, SEX PRISONER, TO THE POINT, SUCKED DRY and THICK SKIN. All new/exclusive material. Includes a beautiful 8-page booklet insert.

WHITE WASH "S/T" 7" (KILL SOMEONE YOU HATE)
Debut record from Winnipeg’s WHITE WASH and KILL SOMEONE YOU HATE RECORDS. Four songs of noisy punk made by four grown men who should know better by now. Won’t disappoint you like everything else in your miserable, pathetic life.

BORN ANNOYING "LIVING HOW YOU'RE NOT" 7" (REAPER)
Born Annoying is a hardcore/punk band from the Jersey Shore formed in 2011. They play music that can be perfectly set to black and white footage of heavy machines crashing together, clips of test flights of missiles/jets/rockets ending in catastrophic failure, videos of young kids being disobedient, chargers pulling in under the lip at Backdoor, long-hairs slam dancing, bikes being ghost ridden into brick walls and people skateboarding fast through traffic. For fans of Cro-Mags, Bl'ast! and Floorpunch. 7" includes digital download.

WYMYNS PRYSN "S/T (3RD)" 7" (NO BREAKS)
"Latest EP from this Atlanta punk band that had a previous release on Scavenger of Death. I think this is my favorite material from the band yet... it's certainly their strongest recording yet, and probably the punkest songs they've filled a record with Everything here is really up-tempo and catchy, so much so that you can almost tell they're from the same city as bands like Predator and Cops. However, there's a noisy post-punk influence that really makes the band unique... they sort of remind me of Mission of Burma rocking out on some 70s punk covers or something. A killer 7", and all wrapped up in a super snazzy screen printed jacket." - sorrystaterecords.com

WYMYNS PRYSN "WASTE YR LIFE" 7" (PYGMY)
“Waste Your Life” is a solid bit of rockin’ with a strong riff and vocals that drone more than sing. “Keep It Simple” is a wee bit more esoteric, with a darker, more complex structure, but no less compelling. Good stuff, great cover art"- razorcake

TOUGH LUCK "HEAVY FORTUNE" 7" (SOLID BOND)
New six song seven inch from Richmond Virginia's Tough Luck. Straight forward in your face hardcore.

RAW NERVES / ACTS OF SEDITION - SPLIT 7" (MAN IN DECLINE)
Ahead of a West Coast tour in March 2012, Man In Decline issued a split 7" by these two prolific bands. Raw Nerves comes on like a strong dose of early hardcore in the vein of The Fix and Negative Approach mixed with influences from the '90's like, Citizen's Arrest, Born Against and Rorschach. Acts of Sedition continue their established sound of dark, depressing hardcore that should appeal to fans of Tragedy, Born/Dead, Citizen's Arrest and Nausea.

DOWN TO NOTHING "GREETINGS FROM RICHMOND, VA" 7" (REVELATION)
This is Down To Nothing's 7" precursor to their upcoming full-length, "Life On The James," due out on Revelation Records. This vinyl 7", affectionately titled "Greetings From Richmond, Virginia," features two LP tracks and the exclusive, non-LP B-side track "Swallowed Up." For fans of Bane, Strife and Terror.

DOWN TO NOTHING "UNBREAKABLE" LP (REVELATION)
Down To Nothing started from humble beginnings in 2000. Around that time, local Richmond VA favorites Count Me Out and Time Flies found themselves at the tail end of their careers, making Down To Nothing the perfect fit to fill the void of the two fallen heroes. Like most young bands, DTN's expectations didn't go much further than a little touring and releasing a record. After putting out their first full-length, "Save It For The Birds" in 2003, DTN knew they were bound for more. In the next two years, DTN released two splits: The first came out in 2004 and was with Florida's Kids Like Us (Eulogy Records); the second split was the result of a strong friendship they forged with the UK's On Thin Ice on their first European tour in 2005. The two splits along with three unreleased songs were compiled and released as "Splitting Headache" in 2005. This compilation showed immense growth and acted as a bridge to their most recent work, "The Most." After being out of print for over a year, DTN's "Splitting Headache" and "Save It For The Birds" are finally available again on one special Revelation release, "Unbreakable." New pressing now available on purple vinyl and limited to 500 copies. Vinyl version includes digital download of this record.

INTEGRITY "SYSTEMS OVERLOAD" LP (ORGANIZED CRIME)
Originally released in 1995, "Systems Overload" was a shock to the hardcore scene that was focused more on politically correct ideas than the sheer brutality of the music. "Systems Overload" marks the third chapter from the first volume of one of the most loved and hated hardcore bands in history. This expanded edition contains new cover art, fold-out poster and layout by Dwid Hellion, as well as liner notes about the making of the record from Aaron Melnick. LP includes digital download.

LIARS ACADEMY "NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS" LP (EQUAL VISION)
Featuring ex-members of CROSS MY HEART (Deep Elm Records) and STRIKE ANYWHERE (Jade Tree Records) this Baltimore area trio plays polished and melodic hook-laden songs that will appeal to fans of all realms of emo and indie rock.

TERROR "NO REGRETS NO SHAME" LP (BRIDGE NINE)
With heart-stopping stage dives, singsongs and unparalleled energy from the band, "No Regrets No Shame..." captures Terror at their inception and in their glory days; a must-have for any modern-day hardcore fan. Now available on colored vinyl. Vinyl version includes digital download.

CEREMONY "ROHNERT PARK" LP (BRIDGE NINE)
Bay Area, CA's Ceremony is back with their third and most unpredictable full-length album to date: "Rohnert Park." This new album is equal parts aggressive, incendiary and, dare we say it, catchy. Don't let that fool you, though; Ceremony's trademark pissed off punk stomp is apparent on "Rohnert Park" and vocalist Ross Farrar's lyrics and delivery are as fiery as ever. Now available again on colored vinyl. Vinyl version includes digital download.

CRUEL HAND "PRYING EYES" LP (BRIDGE NINE)
Cruel Hand's "Prying Eyes" is a record that's going to knock you on your ass. Originally a side project for members of Outbreak, Cruel Hand has evolved from a band that never meant to tour into a band that has done three full US tours, a full European tour and are releasing their sophomore full-length on Bridge Nine. Combining early Metallica, Madball and a crossover hardcore style that sounds like a modern Agnostic Front or D.R.I., Cruel Hand is set to show you that hardcore can be metal or your metal can be hardcore. Now available on colored vinyl with a gatefold cover.

COCK SPARRER "TRUE GRIT OUTTAKES" LP (PIRATES PRESS)
Remixed and remastered, this foil-stamped gem includes all of the tracks that were recorded for their debut with Decca, only uncut with all the count-ins and banter in between. Previously released on CD by Captain Oi! as "Rarities," this record is like a snapshot of being in the studio with Cock Sparrer during the very early days. As would be expected with such an amazing band, many of these songs have held strong through decades of new music and continue to reign as many of the "hits" they still perform today.

DISMISSED - DEMO TAPE
New band outta Richmond featuring members of your favorite bands like DOWN TO NOTHING, FIRE & ICE, IRON BOOTS, BRACEWAR, and TRAPPED UNDER ICE. Hard as nails!

HARD STRIPES - H.S.U.B. MMXIII DEMO TAPE
Brand new demo from fairly new RVA band HARD STRIPES made specifically for UNITED BLOOD FEST.  Features the four tracks from their demo re-recorded along with a couple of new jams, so if you missed out on grabbing a copy, now's your chance!  "Burly demo by this new RVA band. 4 songs of early USHC meets NYHC ala Breakdown or Warzone. It actually reminds me of Nightstick Justice more than anything else and the last song, Frenzy, is the best Hardcore song I've heard in 2012. I'm hoping they record a full-length, cause this is a monster. And did I say that the last song is my favorite Hardcore Punk song of the past year? If it would've been recorded in 1983, it would've been a classic." - nobeastsofiercenyc.blogspot.com

BUSINESS VENTURE "SLEEP WHEN YOU'RE DEAD" DEMO TAPE
Demo from this melodic Idaho band featuring members of Shang A Lang, The Thumbs, and more.

WRONG DECISION "THE US TAPE" TAPE (BLEEDING EDGES)
Wrong Decision is a new band from Belgium. On first listen, I was getting comparisons to 86 Mentality, Dead Stop, Insurance Risk and Commitment Crew. Straight forward early 80's style US hardcore, with burly vocals is what you should be expecting. Most of these songs will be on an upcoming 7", but there's some exclusives here. The A side give you 8 ripping hardcore tracks, the B side you'll have to experience first hand...
