GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS / MAILORDER
LABEL AND WEBSTORE UPDATE 06.08.12
Greetings! I hope everyone is in full Summer mode by now, should be a good one! I've got a pretty nice webstore update this week - a TON of incredible new records up in the webstore, but I'll get to that in a minute. Let's take care of some quick label news first ...
First - SECTARIAN VIOLENCE is about four shows into their US Tour right now ... they'll be hitting a bunch of East Coast and Midwest spots over the next two weeks, so check out the dates HERE and catch em if you can! Most shows are with Chicago's POISON PLANET ...
Second - NIGHT BIRDS will be hitting the West Coast for the first time next month! They will be played a bunch of Southern California dates, flying to Hawaii for NO SUCK FEST, then finishing the tour off with some Northwestern US, Canadian, and Northern California dates. You can get all of the info on the tour HERE. Night Birds are also playing Buffalo (6/13), Toronto (6/14), and Ottawa (6/15, 6/16) next week!
Third - the next two GRAVE MISTAKE New Releases are right around the corner! Both the SCHOOL JERKS LP and the NIGHT BIRDS "Fresh Kills Vol. 1" LP will be available in JULY! Stay tuned for more ordering info, we should have some special stuff for our wonderful mailorder customers ... more on that later!
Fourth - The first four releases for this year are all still going strong so please pick those up if you haven't yet! I still have some colored vinyl left for the BAD ADVICE "Do Not Resuscitate" 7" and BLOODY GEARS "Frozen Rain" 7", and I am getting some more color for the BIG EYES "Back from the Moon" 7" next week (the plant only sent me half of my order when it first came out). SECTARIAN VIOLENCE colored vinyl is sold out but we still have first press black vinyl available!
Finally - I'll be moving in the middle of the month, so there will be probably a brief week long period starting around the 15th of June where I won't be shipping orders, but I assure you anything ordered from now through the weekend will be in the mail before I box GMHQ up for the move! I'll throw a little disclaimer up in my webstore to remind you and keep everyone updated when things are back to normal.
OK that's all, onto the new webstore stuff!!!

WHAT'S NEW FOR 06.08.12:
http://www. gravemistakerecords.com/ catalog/products_new.php
Been a few weeks since the last update, but that doesn't mean the new stuff hasn't continued to pour in. Not even sure where to start, but let's talk 7"s first! Picked up some copies of the brand new BRAIN KILLER 7" ... their third EP and follow up to their LP; the newest DOUBLE NEGATIVE 7" (and final recordings with their original vocalist); the awesome debut from Atlanta's COPS which features members of CARBONAS, BUKKAKE BOYS, GG KING, and GENTLEMAN JESSE; the newest 7" from Chicago's NOOSE (on REFUSE records, not sure if there will be a US pressing as well); Philadelphia's LEATHER have just had their demo pressed onto a 7" with some killer packaging; grabbed newest EP from TODO DESTRUIDO, the POLISKITZO 7", and a bunch more!
LPs ... man, a good haul in this update. Picked up the new CREEM LP, WHITE LUNG LP, and NEON PISS LP from DERANGED (and don't forget to grab the BLOODY GEARS and NO CLASS LPs from the last update as well!), SORRY STATE has delivered the first long player from Atlanta's BUKKAKE BOYS - a total shredder! The newest MEAN JEANS LP which I've spun on repeat for the past few days; a US pressing of the first STEVE ADAMYK BAND LP (originally pressed on P.TRASH, with their most recent LP on DIRTNAP); and the new LPs from NO and RAYOS X are definitely worth checking out.
I stocked up on some INFINITY CAT releases, including the newest HEAVY CREAM LP (love this record!), NATURAL CHILD LP, HELL BEACH LP, and three JEFF THE BROTHERHOOD LPs! Stocked up on some MAKE A MESS titles too, including the ripping CULTURE KIDS LP, LPs from GRASS WIDOW, RANK/XEROX, and GUN OUTFIT 12" EP, plus 7"s from BRILLIANT COLORS, BABIES, and PROPER ORNAMENTS; grabbed some more SUB POP titles including some LPs from PISSED JEANS and MURDER CITY DEVILS, restocks on the SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE LPs and DWARVES LP, and some classic NIRVANA records (just incase you were missing any of those). Also grabbed three LA SERA releases (ex-VIVIAN GIRLS) from HARDLY ART, including a 7" and their two LPs ... a band that has definitely been getting a lot of spins here. Oh and definitely check out the new TROUBLED SLEEP 7" as well (and their first 7", too!) ... awesome.
Finally, grabbed a slew of new tapes for this update; the SECTARIAN VIOLENCE "Conflict of Interest" tape - a demo they put together for their European and US tour. Five brand new songs which will probably show up on an LP out later this year on GRAVE MISTAKE; ripping new demos from KONTAMINAT, DEVILS HAND, INFECCION, and more! And incase you missed em from the last update, still have some KREMLIN and BARGE tapes left, both are HIGHLY recommended!
That's all for now, i wasn't even able to mention everything so check the full list below and order some records!!!! Thanks for reading!!!

NEW WEBSTORE TITLES FOR 06.08.12:
BRAIN KILLER "THIRD" 7" (VINYL RITES)
Picking up where the 2011's 'Every Actual State is Corrupt' LP left off, this is the new EP of punk music from Boston's BRAIN KILLER. Mixing CRUCIFIX, DEATHREAT, and driving Japanese hardcore, BRAIN KILLER have made their most powerful and mature EP yet. Really it just sounds like a hardcore DISCHARGE, but what else do you want? The best song writing; distilling riffs into simpleness with no filler. Loud music for humans. A one-time pressing of 700 copies on black vinyl.
DOUBLE NEGATIVE " HITS" 7" (SORRY STATE)
Three new tracks, the last recordings with the mighty KC on vocals and the first recordings with new drummer Bobby M. If you had any doubt that Double Negative are still Double Negative, this three-song banger will dispel all of them. Like every new -/- release so far, this one subtly expands your expectations of what the band is all about while still sounding like nothing but Double Negative. All copies on "pink smoke" vinyl. Includes digital download.
COPS "PREMONITIONS" 7" (ROB'S HOUSE)
Since the demise of CARBONAS, both GENTLEMAN JESSE and GG KING's respective self-monikered solo projects have deservedly earned our respectbut they've somehow managed to take it up a notch with their new side project COPS [with the help of RYAN DINOSAUR of the BUKKAKE BOYS]. Jesse pulls song-writing duties here but unlike his main outfit these songs are channeling much of the same lo-fi punk madness CARBONAS were known for. These 5 buzzsaw tracks spin at 45rpm so its full-speed mayhem here... so seriously raw, loud and fun!! This is COPS first vinyl release and a follow up to their 'Demo' cassette on Scavenger of Death. Full-color, embossed picture sleeve.
NOOSE "DEPRAVED INDIFFERENCE" 7" (REFUSE)
"We'll be watching, till every cage is open" - This Chicago Vegan Straight Edge outfit is not taking prisoners and it's not here to negotiate any sort of compromises with animal, human and earth abusers. Full of rage and anger, direct and fast raw Hardcore, influenced by early 80's Boston HC and late 80's UKHC. Members of NOOSE served their time in other Chicago edge bands like DURESS, BOILING OVER and POISON PLANET. Following two 7's on React! Records, a brand new 7" on Refuse contains 7 songs incl. RIPCORD cover.
LEATHER "DEMO" 7" (SKELETON HEAD)
Philadelphia’s Leather are making a name for themselves playing noisy, aggressive, melodic rock. It’s easy to see from the number of blog posts about them the impact that their records have had. Previous releases on Caesar Cuts, Fan Death, and Jade Tree records are getting rave reviews and are either sold out or increasingly hard to find. This new 7” brings it all back to the beginning by releasing the bands first recordings from 2009. Originally self released on cassette and now long gone… thrashy and magnificent like a messy mix of Bad Brains, Pissed Jeans, Black Flag and maybe Cro-Mags? Who Cares. It slays. Hand screened silver ink on black cover stock with black inner sleeve and clear vinyl. Edition of 500.
POLISKITZO "DULCE DEL SYSTEMA" 7" (TODO DESTRUIDO)
After 2 well received demos, Poliskitzo are back with a debut 4 song 7" entitled "Dulce del systema". Even though Poliskizto affiliates themselves with the L.A Raw ponks, Poliskitzo leans more towards the melodic punk side of things. With an influence of 80's Spanish punk and Rock Radikal, Poliskizto brings something new and refreshing to the table. Some of the catchiest music I have heard in a while. Limited to 500 copies.
MUNDO MUERTO "ROMPE EL SILENCIO" 7" (MATA LA MUSIKA)
This band has been currently active and touring with bands like Nerveskade/Perdition/Mauser/ Verraterisch/Porkeria
and releasing material. Here we have their 1st ep repressed with some
blasting tracks that will make you want to listen more. Good catchy punk
played hard and delivered with a solid punch to the teeth. Influences
range from Colera, IV Reich, RIP, Asta Kask etc....
BROKEN PATTERNS "S/T (THIRD)" 7" (MATA LA MUSIKA)
This is the 3rd 7" release from BROKEN PATTERNS (features former TEAR IT UP, CUT THE SHIT, KNIFE FIGHT, BROKEN NEEDLE members). Borrowing heavily from the punk history of their surroundings, the self titled 4 track 7" reminds a bit of DEAD KENNEDYS at times and other early California bands. The tunes get you jumping around and ready to pogo.
BURNING LOVE "BLACK WIDOW" 7" (HIGH ANXIETY)
Burning Love lets loose a taste of what's to come from them this year with the Black Widow EP, a precursor to their upcoming LP, Rotten Thing To Say. The a-side features Karla, a true crime epic about Southern Ontario serial killer Karla Homolka, and the b-side pays homage to the late great Laughing Hyenas with their cover of the classic jam Love's My Only Crime.
COKE BUST "DEGRADATION (EURO PRESS)" 7" (REFUSE)
Washington DC Straight Edge outfit - COKE BUST and their brand new 7" - on Refuse Records! Following their two 7"s and full length LP on Six Weeks Records, these 6 songs are mind blowing full-throttle raging non-stop hardcore assault influenced by the masters from Infest, Heresy, Ripcord and Youth Of Today that will leave you on your knees begging for more. Everyday bullshit going on personal and political levels fueled the fire in the lyrical content. Recorded by Kevin at Developing Nations Studios and mastered by Smok (Post Regiment fame) in As One studio. EUROPEAN PRESSING ON REFUSE RECORDS WITH DIFFERENT ARTWORK / LAYOUT.
SECTARIAN VIOLENCE "CONFLICT OF INTEREST" TAPE
Five brand new songs from SECTARIAN VIOLENCE pressed on tape for their recent European Tour and current US tour. Expect to see new and improved versions of some of these tracks on their upcoming LP due out later in 2012 on GRAVE MISTAKE.
BUKKAKE BOYS "S/T" LP (SORRY STATE)
After a slew of small vinyl, Atlanta's Bukkake Boys finally deliver their debut LP. Over the years since their last EP for Sorry State, Bukkake Boys have expanded to a five-piece and grown increasingly heavy, intense, and pummeling, leaving behind their scraggly, noisy hardcore for a sound that takes the best parts of huge-sounding Japanese HC like Framtid and Kriegshög and combines it with the simplicity and urgency of classic USHC. If you like your hardcore to fit neatly in a subgenre, you might not get it. If you like your hardcore delivered with maximum possible venom and bile, get this immediately. Includes digital download.
CREEM "S/T" LP (DERANGED)
This release marks the first 12" release from premier NYHC act CREEM. The band jumps light years ahead of the recording session that spawned a demo cassette and 7" single and creates a piece of music that is far and away its best material. Six originals and a cover of Boston/UK-influenced hardcore.
WHITE LUNG "SORRY" LP (DERANGED)
High-energy manic punks, White Lung, are back with their sophomore release, Sorry. Their 2010 debut It’s the Evil earned them the title as the primary ambassadors for Canada’s emergent punk scene receiving critical acclaim from CHARTAttack to Maximum Rock n’ Roll to Terminal Boredom and their follow-up does not disappoint. McCorkell’s signature driving, off-kilter riffage paired with Way’s snarling and aggressive yet melodic vocals and the hard-hitting rhythmic duo of Grady Mackintosh on bass and Anne-Marie Vassilou on drums amp up White Lung’s position from ambassadors to the queens (and king) of Canandian noise rock. Bowing to the inevitable need for comparison, according to Vice Magazine, “White Lung combine the feral energy of the Germs with the taut, wiry dynamics of the Wipers and have released a string of singles that keep improving in a bewilderingly exponential fashion.” Also present in their sound are golden era Kurt and Courtney, The Bags, and Rocket from the Crypt. This wealth of influences doesn’t mean the band’s sound is hard to pin-down. Written and recorded nearly simultaneously, Sorry manages to be both raw and complex, thanks to White Lung’s focus on cohesive writing. Sorry may have been stressful to record, but it’s a joy to listen to. It signals a new era for White Lung, featuring denser more melodic songs that maintain the rough edge of their punk pedigree.
NEON PISS "S/T" LP (DERANGED)
Playing music is a challenge...if you want it to be good. If you want your music to mean something, then it needs to speak to people the minute it hits their ears, and that is the challenge. NEON PISS have been crafting their debut vinyl release for nearly two years, but you get the impression that this was an inevitable result - a vision realized when these four dudes started playing punk together. Everything about NEON PISS sounds familiar, you know how you are going to feel as soon as you hear the opening swagger of "Tabula Rasa," and they are every bit as good as you hope they are going to be. An LP full of songs that will make you feel instantly comfortable - you might have seen this movie, you've just never seen it acted quite this well, and the production this time around is sheer perfection. You are welcome to dismiss this as some more of that melodic punk that you are too cool to admit that you like, but you would be a fool. Yes, the songs are catchy, and yes NEON PISS will get stuck in your head and even sometimes put a spring in your step, but this shit is deep and these songs are as close to utter brilliance as I can ever remember hearing." Robert Collins/terminal escape blogspot Tuneful melodic punk not unlike the OBSERVERS.
RAYOS X "SOLEDAD" LP (MATA LA MUSIKA)
After 2 rad ep's here is the 3rd vinyl release by these L.A. punx , this time it's an LP. Raw screaming harmonies over tuneful hardcore punk rock. They are one of my favorite L.A. punk bands, with influences like Eskorbuto/Colera/Leuzemia these guys deliver 8 tracks of good solid punk that will get you singing along in no time! - 500 pressed/black
BI MARKS "THE GOLDEN YEARS" LP (MATA LA MUSIKA)
This LP 18 songs of blistering non-stop hardcore punk, raging in the vein of ADOLESCENTS, SICK PLEASURE, or WILLFUL NEGLECT! members of Nerveskade/Bog People, its FUCKING INSANE!
NO "S/T" LP (STATIC SHOCK)
Debut 12" from this dark and nasty hardcore band from London. As the label description states, this LP FAR surpasses the band's earlier demo material. The drumming is loose but powerful and the riffs are dark and discordant... the comparisons to Die Kreuzen are certainly valid, but this also reminds me of a more straightforward version of Septic Death or maybe United Mutation. At any rate, this is an absolutely top-shelf LP, and few bands are playing hardcore this powerful and fully-realized.
MEAN JEANS "ON MARS" LP (DIRTNAP)
Portland's premier party punks The Mean Jeans return with their long-awaited follow up to 2009's Are You Serious! This is a different album, though, more mid-tempo catchier, and poppier (but less "pop punk" if you know what we mean) than their debut. In addition to the standard 3 piece instrumentation, Mean Jeans On Mars also features, at various times, acoustic guitar (!), keyboards (!), drum machines (!), empty Jaeger bottles (!) and boxes of macaroni (!) played as extra percussion. Oh and it also features the debut of new member Jr. Jeans on bass! (Howie Doodat is busy tearing up Portland in the Suicide Notes!) This is a fantastic, exhilarating summertime pop album, so down a couple of jaegy bombs and get ready to moonwalk into the unknown with the Mean Jeans!
STEVE ADAMYK BAND "S/T" LP (DEAD BROKE)
U.S. Release of this Ottawa pop-punk sensations' debut full-length album!!! This album was only released on vinyl in Europe (by Germany's fantastic, P.Trash Records)... UNTIL NOW. Catchy as hell, pop-punk jams infused with a nice power-pop flavor! This shit rips and hits hard. *Includes 2 tracks previously unreleased on vinyl ("Five One Zero" + "Lies, Lies" from CD version). New album, "Forever Won't Wait" Out Now on Dirtnap!
FOR SCIENCE "REVENGE FOR HIRE" LP (DON GIOVANNI)
Finally available on vinyl! Here's a nice review from Razorcake: Perhaps The Ergs! have sprinkled the fine state of New Jersey with magical pop punk dust, covering the impressionable youth with a love of Screeching Weasel and 1980s melodic punk melodies. Could it be? It is! Yay! Yummy pop punk without sounding like The Queers Beat Off (the mistake of ninety-six percent of post-1998 pop punk bands, according to my statistics). Seventeen songs in twenty minutes and thirty-eight seconds! If this were a cereal, it’d be Frosted Cheerios, covered with the, um, sugar that is The Ergs! I can’t stop listening to this!
CULTURE KIDS "S/T" LP (MAKE A MESS)
Debut lp from this San Francisco hardcore band that's been turning a lot of heads recently. 14 songs blasted out in 18 minutes of solid hardcore punk that sounds like it should be on the Flex Your Head comp!
RANK/XEROX "S/T" LP (MAKE A MESS)
Debut album from San Francisco post-punkers Rank/Xerox. The album follows a now-out of print four-song 7" and a split cassette with Grass Widow. The sound is one of post-punk tension, messy but vaguely pop in a fractured fashion, guitar scratchers and synth screamers. The record inhabits darker, danker spaces than previously, damaged dirges seep out from a confused consciousness, and are stared down by obtuse ragers and disorienting excursions into the synth zone. The LP was recorded in a Chinatown dungeon by San Francisco luminaries Eric Bauer (aka King Riff) and Ty Segall.
GRASS WIDOW "S/T" LP (MAKE A MESS)
"This is more like it – all-girl pop exuberance machine straight out of SF, playing double-time games with a sound template expanded beyond the daily standard of reverb-drenched, rudimentary pop. These ladies have a lot more going for them, reaching back to female post-punk pioneers like the Raincoats (or maybe Salem 66) to inform their busy, vibrant work. When a band can take a concept like a one-note guitar solo not so much as a defiant declaration of rule-breaking, and use it as a tool of both creation and negative space, you may have found a band that’s worth listening to, one that’s intent on surprising you within the form. Grass Widow does things like that on this debut album with such candid aplomb and candied sweetness that the form feels revitalized, and wholly their own, from art/progressive rock flourishes to dabbling in Roma/klezmer axis dance of death. I’m told that plants placed in sunlight don’t necessarily reach towards the energy source so much as move away from the absence of it. The ways in which Grass Widow’s adventurous pop plays out reminds me of such a scenario, brightening rooms with handspun inventiveness and energy." - still-single.tumblr.com
GUN OUTFIT "HIGH PLACES" 12" (MAKE A MESS)
"Recent four-song EP from this Olympia pop band, which keeps improving with each subsequent release. An earlier record of theirs was called Dim Light and that is a good metaphor for their music: lush, hopeful guitar pop with sleepy vocals (Carrie Keith in particular has a sort of creaking, self-taught inflection that reminds me of the 3D’s Denise Roughan, fitting nicely against Dylan Sharp’s stoned drawl) and no bass getting in the way, and with a keen sense of how to throw light into a space filled with shadows. Their sound has moved comfortably into the realm of ‘80s guitar-pop wunderkinds like the Feelies and Game Theory, with a pronounced, low-to-the-ground ramble popularized by the Meat Puppets, and for them to be writing within this framework without necessarily drawing attention to it is something of a minor miracle. Yet another great band out of a tightly-knit Olympia, WA scene. May they continue with love and plenty." - still-single.tumblr.com
BRILLIANT COLORS "WALK INTO THE WORLD" 7" (MAKE A MESS)
Make A Mess Records presents 'Walk Into The World b/w Bad Vibes', Brilliant Colors' second 7" for the label, following their 4-song debut in 2008. The San Francisco trio have been projecting a glittering stream of noisy pop gems over the Bay Area and beyond in the past three years, with four 7" singles, and an LP on the classic Oakland imprint Slumberland, carving a charmed path through indie melody and bratty punk primitivism. 'Walk Into The World' shimmers into life with a 60's girl group swing and timeless pop drama, refracted through a hazy DIY lens, initially curious and ultimately triumphant. 'Bad Vibes' turns your world upside-down with a downer dose of delightful disorientation. The 7" was recorded by garage punk wunderkind Ty Segall and will be paired by a simultaneous single release by Slumberland. Pick 'em up!
BABIES, THE "MEET ME IN THE CITY" 7" (MAKE A MESS)
"Meet Me In The City b/w Somebody Else" is the debut 7" from a new NYC combo, The Babies. The 7" record will be, quite appropriately, the seventh release for San Francisco imprint Make A Mess Records. 'Meet Me In The City' and 'Somebody Else' are rollicking pop gems, pungent with sweet harmonies, raucous beats, tambourines, skyscraping guitars, the works. Summer dreams, psychic revelry, concrete heat, Babies are born! The individual Babies are no strangers to melodic transcendance, as their work in such groups as psych-pop wonderkinds Woods and chainsaw sirens Vivian Girls will attest to. Anybody with an ear for indie pop mayhem had best put their spending shoes on pronto, as these Babies are star children of an entirely different breed!
PROPER ORNAMENTS, THE "RECALLING" 7" (MAKE A MESS)
We've has ventured across the pond for its ninth release, the debut 7” single for London’s The Proper Ornaments. On ‘Recalling b/w Are You Going Blind?’, the English duo offers up two songs of languid drift, rainy day vibes and ethereal pop power. The band shares members with the current goth-tinged, punk-flecked indie pop sensations Veronica Falls (7”s on No Pain In Pop/Trouble Records/Captured Tracks). One Ornament spends time on the other side of the aisle, issuing underground missives with the Germs of Youth record label. ‘Recalling’ rides a motorik pulse into dreamy, dimly lit terrain, simultaneously mannered and damaged, melodies moving back and forth between keyboards, guitars and voices. ‘Are You Going Blind?’ is sadder and softer, evoking a classic British pop landscape of grey streets, upturned collars and haunting harmonies.
DISCONNECTS / CRAZY AND THE BRAINS - SPLIT 7" (BALDY LONGHAIR)
We couldn’t be happier to have two of NJ’s best and most unique Punk bands on the same 7″. Are On The Other Side is also the first vinyl offering on Baldy Longhair Records. Both bands offer up two new originals and a cover song for good measure. The Disconnects take the dirty and dangerous 1970’s sounds of bands like The Dead Boys, The Heartbreakers, The Ramones, and The Stooges and prove that Rock and Roll is something you still need.
TROUBLED SLEEP "WACKY PAST IS NOW" 7" (PUZZLE PIECES)
Wacky Past Is Now is the second 7" from Brooklyn's Troubled Sleep. They add a level of discord to their breed of pop/indie rock in a way that would feel at home somewhere between the Simple Machines roster and an Unwound show. It's a record about being more punk than you while hardly being punk at all. Members of Bridge and Tunnel and End of a Year/Self Defense Family.
HEAVY CREAM "SUPER TREATMENT" LP (INFINITY CAT)
Well, here it is. Super Treatment! The new album from Heavy Cream. Just when you were beginning to think the future of underground music belonged to MicroKorgs and looped nonsense, Nashville’s Heavy Cream are back with a new album to remind you that the two and a half minute rock and roll blast is alive and well. The new album (produced by Ty Segall and recorded by Eric Bauer in San Francisco) doesn’t have a song longer than three minutes, but every track on Super Treatment packs the garage punk punch Heavy Cream created on 2010’s Danny and then some. With Tiffany Minton now on drums, and guest bass player Seth Sutton, Super Treatment was given the Segall Treatment with songs like ’79 and Prison Shanks clear examples of the bands decision to soak their songs in distortion and fuzz.
HELL BEACH "WELCOME TO HELL BEACH" LP (INFINITY CAT)
We are so proud to present the debut LP from Hell Beach. Everyone's buzzing about this record around the Infinity Cat house. Listen to "Ocean Floor" and "Garments", and you'll know why. Check out their interview with Converse who says "Hell Beach rocks in that old-school way that makes you want to bang your head and wear black t-shirts with the sleeves cut off." Former Whirlwind Heat/Skyblazer member Brad Holland on guitars, Jolene Boyce on drums, and Susan Tinsley's vocals will take you deep into a dream you may never wake up from. Welcome to Hell Beach.
NATURAL CHILD "1971" LP (INFINITY CAT)
Debut LP by Natural Child. Here's what Nashville's Dead said: "It’d almost be easier for us to just write about the first time we saw each song played live. Like the first time we saw them play “Let It Bleed” at Mercy Lounge back last May and how we watched all the girls’ eyes get dreamy. Or maybe it’d be easier for us to talk about the importance of “Easy Street” and what that song means to Nashville and how a lot of their shows end with that song for a reason. It’s about getting famous. Or about how we heard the finished version of “The Jungle” for the first time and could make out the voice of our buddy DD666 on the track. We know that song’s not on 1971, but whatever. There’s just always an instillment of rock and roll in our heads after seeing Natural Child. Be it “Stones-y” or “stoner” or whatever, it’s still the raw rock and roll that you can’t find anywhere else right now. And in that same vein, 1971 is like a real album. It’s not a bunch of songs thrown together or a bunch of singles collected onto one LP, it’s a record that’s meant to be heard in it’s entirety and taken in as a whole."
JEFF THE BROTHERHOOD "BROTHERHOOD OF LIGHT" LP (INFINITY CAT)
"The Brotherhood Of Light" is a collection of previously released but out of print odds and ends. There is Side One (21:40) and there is Side Two (22:45). There is no silence.
JEFF THE BROTHERHOOD "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS" LP (INFINITY CAT)
Nashville rockers Jeff The Brotherhood give their 2nd album, We Are The Champions, a proper release as they continue their non-stop touring playing with everyone from the Greenhornes and Fucked Up to metal legends Pentagram. "The music they play is easy to love, vintage three-string party rock somewhere on the continuum between the Ramones and Black Sabbath."--The Village Voice
JEFF THE BROTHERHOOD "HEAVY DAYS" LP (INFINITY CAT)
Third pressing of the new album from JEFF The Brotherhood with a different back cover photo, first and second pressings are sold out! Comes with a download card for a free download of the whole album! Here's a few words from the critics: "Postadolescent bros dig into the sweet spot between punk and hard rock." (Spin) "Epic by name, likewise by scope, JEFF: The Brotherhood features two actual, no-kidding brothers, Jake and Jamin Orrall, pounding minimalist punk-psych from whichever surface squeals loudest." (Village Voice) “Just try to get through one of their sets without stomping your foot and pumping your fist." (Nylon Magazine) "Jeff the Brotherhood brings a garage-rock attack to '70s stoner metal, sounding something like Queens of the Stone Age if they recorded a tribute album to the Standells or some other Nuggets rock band." (Entertainment Weekly)
HUNX AND HIS PUNX "TOO YOUNG TO BE IN LOVE" LP (HARDLY ART)
Too Young To Be In Love is the first fully-realized Hunx and His Punx album, and the group's first for Hardly Art. It was recorded in New York City by Ivan Julian—one of the founding members of inimitable NYC punk legends Richard Hell and the Voidoids. This record was made in the same studio that one of Hunx's idols, Ronnie Spector, once recorded in. While it is preceded by the Gay Singles LP (True Panther Sounds/Matador Records, 2009), a collection of hard-to-find and out-of-print 7" singles, Too Young To Be In Love is the first proper studio record from Hunx and His Punx.
LA SERA "S/T" LP (HARDLY ART)
Since joining all-female punk trio Vivian Girls during the spring of 2007 Katy Goodman's DIY-style bass playing and drifty-faded vocals have sent waves of adoration rippling throughout Brooklyn's pop punk circuit. Her newest band La Sera showcases her signature style, bringing her talent for creating dreamy pop songs even more to the forefront. In February 2010 Goodman started working on some fresh material that inspired the formation of her brand new band, La Sera. Her inspiration sprung from an attraction to early pop hits from the 1950's and ethereal choral vocals. Her new songs contain warm celestial-pop melodies that echo with the dreamlike effect of a church choir and effuse a softer, less aggressive sound than the Vivian Girls. With a dozen fresh tracks, La Sera muses on death, love, and love lost within the span of two minute choiral pop blisters. The phantasmic quality of Goodman’s voice takes hold of the contradictorily upbeat “You’re Going to Cry,” while “Dove Into Love” seems to send time into drifting slow motion, enveloped by a wave of guitar strums. The lilting and delicate “Hold,” meanwhile, tells the story of two people hugging each other to death. Hardly Art will release two limited 7”s from La Sera (for “Never Come Around” and “Devils Hearts Grow Gold”) in advance of the full-length.
LA SERA "SEES THE LIGHT" LP (HARDLY ART)
La Sera’s Sees The Light follows 2011’s masterful self-titled debut with ten new tracks of peppy break-up pop brimming with defiance and bitter sweetness. On album opener “Love That’s Gone,” the vocals and drumbeat linger for seconds, swaying in the wind while the guitar cuts through, charming you, pulling you by your shirt and telling you that it is time to move on. This is a break-up album for the best kinds of break-ups. There's a lightness of touch, too, that surround the harmonies throughout and makes one yearn for the days of Donna Lynn, Julie Ruin and The Shirelles. But before you can settle into your seat, La Sera delivers a one-two punch - a rip of rolling snare and sending you speeding off in a fast car. Seize the light. Where the first La Sera album was super-dreamy in its layered vocals, Sees The Light is more direct, more aggressive; almost a soundtrack to a lost drive-in movie classic. This is not an album for half-hearted partakers in the heartache scene: just an all-consuming love for punk as pop and pop as punk. Lead single “Please Be My Third Eye” buzzes with an intensity and beauty rarely heard outside the first three Vivian Girls albums. (Not so surprising: La Sera IS Katy Goodman IS one-third of Vivian Girls.) Songs such as “Don't Stay” soar away into the stratosphere, solemn and possessed of singular beauty. “Real Boy” is playfully driven in comparison: like being whisked away to a tropical island, while “Drive On” is tear-laden and full of hidden menace like a David Lynch film.
LA SERA "DEVILS HEARTS GROW COLD" 7" (HARDLY ART)
This is the second 7” release from La Sera, the new project of Katy Goodman (Vivian Girls, All Saints Day). Featured on this 7” is album track “Devils Hearts Grow Gold,” bundled with an exclusive cover on the b-side. La Sera crafts lush, dreamy songs of heartbreak, love, and death. This little MFer is on black vinyl, with cover artwork by Derek Erdman.
PISSED JEANS "HOPE FOR MEN" LP (SUB POP)
Album number two and their Sub Pop debut. Thick-as-glue punk bombast and Aussie sludge stoke the coals of your existence. This album is diverse, but the Jeans ain't no dilettantes. Mixing volatility with humor is a hard thing to master in music. Pissed Jeans do it with smarts and poignancy. Consider the bar raised.
PISSED JEANS "KING OF JEANS" LP (SUB POP)
If 2005's Shallow was Pissed Jeans coping with moving out of their parents’ homes, and 2007's Hope for Men their initial reaction to the mechanical lifestyle of a wage-earner, King of Jeans is their formal and uneasy acceptance of adulthood, by way of one hell of a rock record. Working with renowned producer Alex Newport (who holds a Fudge Tunnel pedigree and has worked with such luminaries as At the Drive-In, The Locust and Sepultura), Pissed Jeans have pushed further into the raw, minimal core of heavy rock music with King of Jeans. Masters of the mundane, beasts of the banal, high priests of the humdrum: these four, white, male high school graduates hardly look further than their own appendages for artistic inspiration, content to execute their own brand of brash and heavy punk music in the Joe Carducci-approved standard rock formation of guitar, bass, drums and vocals. From simple minds and simple fabrics comes this King of Jeans. And there can be only one.
MURDER CITY DEVILS "IN NAME AND BLOOD" LP (SUB POP)
In Name and Blood is the third and strongest release yet from the Seattle-based six-piece. While it's not much of a stylistic deviation from previous releases, producer John Agnello gives the whole shebang a bottom-heavier sound. Atop this, front man Spencer Moody does what he does best: holler, holler, and holler some more. Keyboardist Leslie Hardy, a newer addition to the group, adds many Farfisa stabs and squiggles in classic garage-rock style. As the rest of the band holds down the fort, the hits keep on coming. The leadoff track, "Press Gang," sounds monstrous and powerful and, like some of the other anthems on In Name and Blood (especially the cutting "I Drink the Wine"), there's almost a whiff of the lukewarm beer that was probably spilled on the lyric sheets during the album's recording sessions. The grisly, crime-scene theme of the packaging complements the MCD's excellently executed rock.
NIRVANA "BLEACH" LP (SUB POP)
Continuing our legacy of reminding people Nirvana had a record before Nevermind, Sub Pop Records presents a non-deluxe, affordably-priced, single-LP version of Bleach, Nirvana’s debut album. Originally released by us in June of 1989, Bleach was widely recognized as a record music retailers should probably order after that one with the naked baby on the cover did so well in 1991.
NIRVANA "SLIVER" 7" (SUB POP)
Do I really need a description here? NIRVANA's single from 1990. Classic.
MUDHONEY "TOUCH ME I'M SICK" 7" (SUB POP)
"Touch Me I'm Sick" is a song by the American alternative rock band Mudhoney. It was recorded in March 1988 at Seattle's Reciprocal Recording studio with producer Jack Endino. "Touch Me I'm Sick" was released as Mudhoney's debut single by independent record label Sub Pop on August 1, 1988. The song's lyrics, which feature dark humor, are a sarcastic take on issues such as disease and violent sex.
AVERKIOU "THE NEW IMPERATIVE" 7" (SOUND STUDY)
When I listen to this record I feel like what I assume guitarist Jay Shuster feels like most of the time--like I'm barefoot, a little stoned, spinning around in circles with a guitar around my neck and a big dumb grin on my face. "The New Imperative" revisits some of the band's familiar sounds, a wash of warm guitar fuzz pouring just over Matt Brink's charismatic, verbed-out vocals and Brad Purvis' relentless drumming. It'll bring that same smile to your face with its sharp sense of melody and style, while pummeling your bowels into submission with utter heaviness. There is something about this that feels "new" though. Somehow this EP feels more cohesive than their previous efforts, like a band that has hit their stride. In 2011 the band suffered some growing pains, losing two members and gaining a new one. It seems they have come out the other side stronger than ever. It's almost as if the band wanted to let everyone know that they are indeed at the top of their game. For Fans of My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver.
LIQUID LIMBS "DICHOTOMY" 7" (SOUND STUDY)
Liquid Limbs return with two brand new jams. Colossal blown-out, dirty-ass guitars, pummeling and complex drumbeats and all the melody you come to expect from Gainesville's power-duo. For Fans of Big Business, Torche.
FUTURE NOW, THE "HANGMAN/RUNWAY" 7" (SOUND STUDY)
The Future Now’s slash and burn alt-rock doesn’t sound much like their Gainesville brethren. The common ground they share is an uncompromising DIY work ethic. The whole project evokes the moment when grunge was still a hungry hybrid of punk and metal, newly unleashed on the masses. The band revels in a sound that was synonymous with the Pacific Northwest, the wedding of gritty guitar attacks and traditional pop structures. At times, vocalist Bobby Heilman channels the deep croon of Screaming Trees’ Mark Lanegan, while the upbeat energy propelling songs like “The Runaway" recalls Tacoma’s grunge-punk pioneers Seaweed.
BURNING LOVE / COLISEUM "LIVE AT THE ATLANTIC" LP (SOUND STUDY)
This recording documents a humid Florida night near the beginning of a Coliseum and Burning Love cross-continental summer tour, expertly captured by the Atlantic / Sound Study recording team. Coliseum's side was mixed by audio wizard and frequent collaborator J Robbins while the Burning Love side was prepared by Ryan Williams. To top it all off, we enlisted Dexterity Press to craft stunning letter pressed packaging to make this a truly special release.
FUTURE NOW, THE "HAZY ORANGE SUNDAY" LP (SOUND STUDY)
Debut LP from Gainesville's THE FUTURE NOW. Driven by fuzzy, distorted guitars and masterful three-part harmonies, "Hazy Orange Sunday" harkens back to the early 90’s, when grungy rock and roll ruled the airwaves. For Fans of Nirvana, The Lemonheads.
NUEVA AUTORIDAD DEMOCRATICA - DEMO TAPE
This is the American press limited to 300 copies. Pro printed tape/covers (fold out sleeve). Released in Spain by Solo Para Punks (200 copies). Nueva Autoridad is a new band from Madrid with members of Sudor, La URSS, Mas Volumen, Siberia, Horror, etc... They started with the main idea of playing punk in the vein of Discharge's The more I see period, but with the addition of Dani Mortaja as vocalist and his unique singing and lyrics has created a rare hybrid between UK82 Punk and classic Spanish hardcore. They are playing some great gigs now in Madrid and this 7 songs demo tape is a good start.
NO SIR, I WON'T - DEMO TAPE
Featuring members of Brain Killer, Libyans, and Surrender, Boston's No Sir, I Won't is one of the best new bands going. Combining hardcore, peace-punk, and countless other influences, they have created a unique and refreshing sound. After months of delays, their 6 song demo is now available for your physical, tangible, real life enjoyment. This is music, not noise.
INFECCION "TANTO SEXO, TANTA GONNOREA" TAPE
Demo tape from this new Raleigh, NC band featuring members of Brain F≠, Whatever Brains, Logic Problem, Devour, Double Negative, and a slew of others. Originally inspired by the tough yet catchy sound of newer Spanish punk bands like Sudor and Silla Electrica, Infección's sound quickly grew to incorporate numerous other influences, including full-bore noisy hardcore, big melodic punk a la Naked Raygun, and even a little 60s garage stomp. Seven originals, all distinctly different from one another, and a Kinks cover. Dubbed on cool orange tapes with hand-screened j-cards. DEMOlish tapes
DEVIL'S HAND - DEMO TAPE
Brand new out of Richmond, VA ... members of DRY SPELL and SOUTHSIDE STRANGLERS playing ripping Motorhead influenced hardcore punk. Good shit.
KONTAMINAT - DEMO TAPE
"Awesome hardcore here from the post-Deathreat school, which, judging by a couple clues isn't just an accident. This is a really nice and powerful example of taking simple catchy anthemic punk riffs and pushing it to a whole new and much more aggressive level. Tasteful leads, relentless drumming that never tires, a solid rumble, and a real sense of anger, do nice things here. Worth mentioning that Kontaminat features folks from Los Crudos, Sin Orden, and Chronic Seizure, but this sounds like none of those bands and stands well on its own. Into it" - MRR
SCANDALS, THE "TRENCHKNIFE" TAPE
The Scandals return with their long awaited EP “Trenchknife.” These songs pick up where their full length, “The Sound of Your Stereo,” left off and show a peek into what’s in store for the future. Just in time for the summer, The Scandals bring four new punk rock anthems to your tape deck. The EP was recorded and produced by Pete Steinkopf of The Bouncing Souls in Asbury Park, NJ , and was mastered by Stephen Egerton of The Descendents. The Cassette version of “Trenchknife” includes two exclusive bonus tracks not available anywhere else. “Trenchknife” is also being released on limited edition clear gold vinyl through the bands’ own imprint, Gingervitus Records.
EXCITEMENT LEVEL ZERO - ISSUE #3 ZINE
Fresh off the presses, the new issue of this Richmond power HC publication. This issue features interviews with relatively under-appreciated acts MAD WORLD (Virginia) and WORD ON THE STREET (Canada). Also includes is a comprehensive discography of INFEST bootlegs, review/pictures from an NYC weekend of shows (Omegas, Boston Strangler, Creem, etc.), and a couple pages of reviews. All laid out with primitive cut-and-paste and writing that comes straight from the gut. HC rag for HC freaks and bozos.
FLOYD IS DEAD - ISSUE #2 ZINE
Short and sweet half sized zine out of Ohio. This second issue features some record and show reviews as well as some other assorted writings.
FLOYD IS DEAD - ISSUE #3 ZINE

WHAT'S NEW FOR 06.08.12:
http://www.

This band has been currently active and touring with bands like Nerveskade/Perdition/Mauser/
