GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS / LABEL and WEBSTORE UPDATE!

Well, one month down - 2013 is moving FAST and there is a lot going on over here at GMHQ! Here's an update for you on the status of our upcoming releases (and of course, some delightful new webstore items as well); the BIG EYES "Demo 2010" 7" and THE SHIRKS "S/T" 12" are RIGHT around the corner ... just waiting on THE SHIRKS jackets before we release 'em both! I'm currently shooting for around mid Feb, so keep your fingers crossed. If you haven't heard, we've got a new track from THE SHIRKS streaming on the Grave Mistake Bandcamp page, as well as the BIG EYES Demo in it's entirety so head on over and check those out. Both releases are also available for full DL if you can't wait for the vinyl!

On the UPCOMING RELEASE front, here's the quick rundown - SICKOIDS 12" test pressings have been approved and sound incredible! Working on artwork now so SORRY STATE RECORDS and I are hoping for a mid to late March release on that one. BIG EYES LP is on schedule for a mid April release date, we will have more specific info on that one next week (and some tuneage for ya)! Both the SECTARIAN VIOLENCE and 86 MENTALITY LPs also have completed tests which should show up sometime next week, and we are hoping to have both by early April for DAMAGED CITY FEST in good ol' WASHINGTON DC.  SECTARIAN VIOLENCE should definitely have copies of their LP on their EUROPEAN TOUR this March, CARRY THE WEIGHT RECORDS will be handling the European pressing of that release. Check out their blog to hear a track off the new LP as well as tour dates, and mark your damn calendar if they are playing near you!  The KREMLIN "Will You Feed Me?" 7" has just been sent off, so we probably won't see that until spring, but we'll keep you posted!

NIGHT BIRDS are currently wrapping up in the studio for both their upcoming "Born to Die in Suburbia" LP which will be out this Summer on GM, as well as their "Maimed for the Masses" 7" single which is due out this Spring on FAT WRECK CHORDS. We will have MUCH more info on the new NIGHT BIRDS material, upcoming releases, and live appearances in the coming months, so stay tuned.

On the VINYL CONFLICT RECORDS front, BARGE 7" tests have been approved, and DEVIL'S HAND 7" test pressings will show up next week as well ... so more info on those soon!

Finally, some exciting reunions to announce ... first off, Wash. D.C.'s one and only THE AFTERMATH will be reuniting for DAMAGED CITY FEST! To get everyone pumped, we've put their first two EPs up in the Grave Mistake Bandcamp page as well! And exactly two weeks prior (3/29 and 3/30 to be exact), both IRON BOOTS and STRIKING DISTANCE will be playing UNITED BLOOD FEST here in Richmond, VA! Extremely excited to see all of these bands one more time! Along with STRIKING DISTANCE's UB appearance, YOUNGBLOOD RECORDS and I are working as hard as we can to get their MARCH TO YOUR GRAVE LP back in print in time for the fest!!! More news on that in the coming month, but get excited!

Well, considering the Grave Mistake news has taken up most of this email, I'm not even going to burden you with a webstore run down (you can check out the full details below).  Just note that we have killer new releases from VIOLENT FUTURE, MFP, DOUBLE NEGATIVE, ROUGH KIDS, BROKEN PRAYER, NO POWER, PISSHEADS, CAGED ANIMAL, RUN DOWN, PAPER DRAGONS, BRUDTE LOFTER, and more; some SICK reissues from URBAN WASTE, THE DICKS, VICIOUS CIRCLE, and THE OBSESSED; a bunch of zines including some older issues of DISTORT and ACCEPT THE DARKNESS back in stock, and FOUR issues of long running UK zine ARTCORE (three of which come with vinyl releases!!!!)

Thanks for reading, have a wonderful weekend and you'll be hearing from us again next week!!!

WHAT'S NEW FOR 2/8/2013:
http://www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog/products_new.php

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE FOR 2/8/13:

VIOLENT FUTURE "S/T" 7" (PAINKILLER)
"Total neanderthal knuckle dragging hardcore punk that a certain geographical region in Canada is starting to crank out with alarming efficacy. The tempo sits somewhere in between UK82, NEGATIVE APPROACH and quaaludes, and the vocals are the kind of throaty snarls that made civilians justifiably terrified of the punks when they first heard it - this is just plain nasty. But you can still dance to it, and who doesn't like a band that can lay down a good beat?" - terminalescape.blogspot.com

MFP "S/T" 7" (PAINKILLER)
The debut of "these Boston Morons" turns out to be a rock 'n' roll disgrace of staggering proportions. MFP have delivered 7 songs of "hardcore influenced by hardcore"-hardcore-(punk) on this here 7". Dads and husbands with credentials including (but not limited to) Last in Line, Obliteration, and WMass' notorious Strikers serve you a platter of rough hewn tunes at times evoking the Life's Blood and SOIA 7"s, if they were fronted by the Jerky Boy's character Frank Kissel

DOUBLE NEGATIVE "HARDCORE CONFUSION VOLS. III & IV" 7" (SORRY STATE)
Four new songs from North Carolina's greatest, and those who have heard it are already pronouncing it the band's strongest material since Daydreamnation, if not The Wonderful and Frightening World. Double Negative's first recording with new vocalist Cameron Craig (formerly of Logic Problem) finds them revisiting the blistering tempos of their debut, but infused with the acid-drenched riffs they've been writing for the past several years. Note: this record is expensive, but the packaging is absolutely gorgeous, including a custom gatefold jacket with spot gloss finish (that will complete your puzzle whether you have the first or second pressing of Vols I and II) as well as a hand-screened poster, lyric sheet, and download card.

CAGED ANIMAL "S/T" 7" (WARTHOG SPEAK)
Debut seven-track EP of knuckle-dragging, no nonsense, ignorant, moshable HC here from this new-ish Bay Area band. There's not one ounce of originality in these grooves, but if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. 330 total press.  Members of a lot of bands, including OVENS, SOPORS, and HUNTING PARTY, for those keeping score.

PISSHEADS "KILL HIPPIE SYSTEM" 7" (RUST AND MACHINE)
Richmond City boot punk. Featuring members of LOST TRIBE, CERVIX, and AGHAST. after a demo tape this is their debut 8-track EP. Great front and back cover art paying homage to earlier art of the greats SHITLICKERS and DISCHARGE, which after hearing, you can tell are huge influences. heavy production brought on by some massive mastering done by Jack Control of World Burns To Death/Severed Head of State at Enormous Door Studios. with several tours and fests already under their belts I am already looking forward to future output by this band.

RUN DOWN "AMERICAN DESPAIR" 7" (FIRESTARTER)
Shortly after the demise of The Breaks and Formaldehyde Junkies, Joseph Sulier (vocalist for the former) and Colin Swanson-White (drummer for the latter) got together to work on a long distance project (St. Louis - Minneapolis) inspired by the those late-70s garage and post-punk bands that drenched themselves in darkness and depression (think an amalgamation of bands like Crime, Dead Boys, The Gun Club, and The Birthday Party). The two primary song-writers (Joseph on vocals/lyrics and Colin on everything else) wrangled up a crew to fill out the line-up, play a few shows, and record this 2-song single back in 2007. We unfortunately had to sit on releasing this until now for a myriad of reasons but now that the duo have regrouped as Voight-Kampff and just self-released their debut full-length cassette, we thought the time had come for this single to see the light of day. Limited to 300, all on white vinyl, we highly suggest you hop on this with haste.

IN BETWEEN "SO STEADY" 7" (TOXIC POP)
We first fell in love with their brand of melodic hardcore when we heard their 2010 demo and its homage to bands like Lifetime and Texas Is the Reason (two of our all time favorites). This EP finds the band digging a little depper into some of those classic 90s post-hardcore sounds and gathering influence from additional bands like Silent Majority, Sensefield, and Gameface. In Between are the next generation of Baltimore hc/punk, sharing members with Praise and Sacred Love, and they're ushering it in with style and grace. Comes with a digital download code. Split release with Photobooth Records.

OBSESSED, THE "S/T" 7" (TKO)
TKO goes METAL with this official reissue of the OBSESSED’s debut 7” 3 song EP from 1983. Featuring the first ever released material from Doom Metal/Stoner Rock godfather Scott "Wino" Weinrich, who went on to join SAINT VITUS as well as form countless other musical projects over the past thirty years. This is the first time this pioneering Doom Metal release has been available in its original format for over two decades. Re-mastered at Enormous Door Studios for maximum heft and density. Includes new liner notes from Wino.

BRUDTE LOFTER "UNG, DUM AND DEPERAT" 7" (GUMMOPUNX)
New K-Town hardcore outfit with ex-members of Nuclear Death Terror, Hjertestop and Ripping Headache - and that´s just the way this nice debut EP sounds like! Early 80's hardcore with some melody, crunchy guitars and hard rough vocals!

COMMIE COWBOYS "S/T" 7" (GUMMOPUNX)
New Danish band from Kopenhagen. Rocking Hardcore recorded by Las Ballade of HJERTE STOP!

GENDERS "DAY OF CHOICES" 7" (PRGNT)
Genders are a fairly new band playing out of Connecticut and this record is their debut 7". The bands overall sound is somewhat chaotic and to me is a blend of INFEST and the traditional New York hardcore sound... This is a very solid e.p. though, its got a good mix of songs that go by in a frenzy and some with tough hardcore breakdowns.

URBAN WASTE "S/T" 7" (EVEN WORSE)
For the 1st time in 30 years, Urban Waste is releasing their sole 82' E.P. on 7" vinyl again.  A true blast from the past, NewYork Hardcore... A re-issue of the sole EP by one of the most sought after and enigmatic bands from the earliest days of New York hardcore. Despite the obscurity of the original release, Urban Waste was made famous through their signature style of blown-out, over the top hardcore punk replete with trademark menacing buzzsaw guitars and piercing vocals.

DICKS "PEACE" 7" (ALTERNATIVE TENTACLES)
Phase Two of The Dicks began in San Francisco, 1983, when Gary Floyd relocated to a new city and reformed the groundbreaking band with a new lineup. Eschewing the traditional hardcore formula, Floyd along with drummer Lynn Perko, guitarist Tim Carroll and bassist Sebastian Fuchs evolved a more mature punk sound while still retaining their political edge. This incarnation recorded the Peace? 7-inch and These People album. They disbanded in 1986 and Floyd and Perko went on to form Sister Double Happiness. The three-track Peace? 7-inch was the first release from the reconstituted Dicks and revealed the unit to be as intimidating as ever. Alternative Tentacles is proud to present this essential document of 1980s punk, remastered with love by Jello Biafra.

NO POWER "NO PEACE" LP (SORRY STATE)
After a quickly-released blur of tapes and 7"s, North Carolina's Nö Pöwer unleash their debut 12" on the world. While I like their earlier stuff (which was pretty straightforward raw d-beat in the Disclose tradition), Nö Pöwer really finds their voice on this LP, fusing their Discharge-inspired approach with the heavy and dissonant sounds of 90s noise rock. It's an original sound, comparable to a more rock-oriented take on the experimental d-beat of recent Japanese bands like D-Clone and Zyanose, delivered with heavy production for maximum impact. This LP features gorgeous hand-made packaging, too, including hand-screened jackets and obi strips as well as hand-stamped labels and dust jackets. The 1st press is limited to 300 numbered copies.

ROUGH KIDS "THE STATE I'M IN" LP (SORRY STATE)
Building on the sound of their previous two singles, LA's Rough Kids polish things up for their debut full-length on Sorry State. Benefitting from a bigger, more ambitious sound (including a punchy mastering job by Dave Rahn from the Carbonas), Rough Kids trade in classic punk hooks delivered with an intensity that will snare even the toughest hardcore kids. Lovers of '77 punk will flip for the sick Johnny Thunders licks, fans of modern bands like No Hope for the Kids and the Observers will love the big, dark vocal hooks, and the hardcore kids will bang their fist the entire time. A truly outstanding collection of songs.

BROKEN PRAYER "S/T" LP (SORRY STATE)
The brainchild of Scott Plant, formerly the vocalist for Civic Progress, Chicago's Broken Prayer are precisely what hardcore punk should be in the year 2012: aggressive, energetic, intelligent, sarcastic, and adventurous. In a scene where entire subgenres have been spawned from the influence of one band (if not one record), Broken Prayer's willingness to try anything--from stinging, straightforward hardcore to song-oriented post-punk to spastic, Screamers-inspired synth blasts--is a breath of fresh air. If all of the new school soundalike bands just aren't giving you that adrenalin rush, then this LP may restore your faith in punk.

ASILE "KISCHESIPPI TOXIQUE" LP
Finally, after months of waiting, here is the debut LP from Ottawa, Ontario’s ASILE. (Asylum in French) Drawing influences by UK greats DISCHARGE, DOOM, and Swedish greats such as early AVSKUM, SHITLICKERS, PUKE, but even more so ANTI-CIMEX, ASILE conquers the Scandi-hardcore style better than any band I have heard coming from Eastern Canada. Hands down. Their lyrics are in French, making them one of the first Franco-Ontarian hardcore punk bands, at least from what I have heard. Members of ASILE have also payed their dues playing in such other bands as BASTARDATOR, TRIOXIN 245 and CAUCHEMAR. Their debut LP release “Kichesippi Toxique” gets its name from the true native Algonquin name for the Ottawa river, on which the city of Ottawa was established. This river is now quite polluted because of nuclear waste spills, human and industrial waste etc. This LP blew me away when I first heard it and I instantly knew I had to be a part of it. Be on the look out for the name ASILE because once people take notice of this LP there will be no stopping of this band. They previously released a 4 track tape which will be making its way to vinyl hopefully soon as well. Tentative tours are planned for next year of Eastern US and possibly Europe that won’t keep ASILE under the radar for long.

PAPER DRAGONS "DIE TO PLEASE" LP (FIRESTARTER)
Paper Dragons are a Baltimore punk band featuring former and current members of Deep Sleep, The Spark, Dead Mechanical, Pulling Teeth, Bad Business...the list goes on. These guys have been around quite a while. The band actually formed in 2006, played around for a year, and then took an extended break, but not before recording this album with Kevin Bernsten, and releasing it digitally with different artwork. Now that they're back in action again, we thought this would be a great time to give it a proper vinyl release. Ten songs of uniquely crafted punk rock that melds the members' other offerings with a fresh spin on things. Comes with a digital download code.  Split release with Southpaw Records and Wallride Records.

CAPITALIST KIDS, THE "LESSONS ON LOVE, SHARING, AND HYGIENE" LP (TOXIC POP)
It's pretty rare that we fall in love with a band on first listen, but that was exactly the case when Austin, TX's The Capitalist Kids sent us their new recording. It's really hard not to get sucked in by the familiar pop-punk hooks first made popular by Lookout! Records bands like Green Day and The Mr. T Experience, but the new recording really had us yelling "Hell yes!" when the third song, "Parachute of Gold", kicked in with it's socially critical lyrics. It's easy to find a pop-punk band that can write a catchy song about a new or lost love, but when they can seamlessly flow between a song like that and a song about the growing income gap in this country, it's a really, really special thing. Other often neglected topics in the genre that can be found on this album include the cold-hearted Ayn Rand, Socialist as badge of honor, and the disappointment and anger at famous punk rockers punching women. Don't worry traditionalists, songs about girls are abundant as well. This is your new favorite record.  Comes with a digital download code.

EJECTOR SEATS, THE "SAY SORRY" LP (COLLISION COURSE)
12 little slices of life…songs about customer service, snoring, souveneirs, waking up in the wrong dimension, getting fired on Friday, watching the weathergirl on TV…this is mid tempo to fast mid tempo ragged kinda popp-ish-punk. I guess you could say the vocals are a little gravelly… (not in a Gainsville-gruff way), but the melodies are infectious & the choruses’ll get stuck in yer head. It’s on a cool green vinyl w orangey/purple/blue splatters. Somewhere between the Hidden Spots & Tongan Deathgrip perhaps.

VICIOUS CIRCLE "S/T" LP (TKO)
TKO is proud to announce the first ever release from the legendary, notorious VICIOUS CIRCLE. Formed at the tail end of the 1970s in Southern California, VC featured STEVE HUDSON of Posh Boy Records’ the KLAN and JACK GRISHAM and TODD BARNES, who would go on to form T.S.O.L.. Though VC only existed for a brief moment, the exploits of the band and their close-knit pack of followers would become the stuff of legend in the SoCal Punk scene. For this 12”, the band’s only existing practice recordings have been meticulously restored and mastered so that rest of us can finally safely experience this piece of Punk Rock history. Included with this release is a 40 minute DVD of VC front man Jack Grisham regaling viewers with spectacular tales of mayhem from the band’s brief career. Thankfully the statute of limitations has run out on the activities discussed..... Enjoy!

DICKS "KILL FROM THE HEART" LP (ALTERNATIVE TENTACLES )
Austin, Texas, 1980: In the dark ages before SXSW, there was a bar called Raul’s that was the center of the Austin punk scene. Actually, it basically was the whole scene and The Dicks were born from it. The Dicks made a big splash with their first single, Hate the Police, and then recorded Kill From the Heart just before vocalist Gary Floyd moved to San Francisco. In those magical couple years of the Dicks’ infancy in Texas, they made a dynamic impact on many people with a stellar live show that mixed punk and politics. Alongside Floyd, the original lineup was guitarist Glen Taylor, bassist Buxf Parrot and drummer Pat Deason. They imploded in 1983. Alternative Tentacles is proud to present a very necessary reissue of the band’s beloved first LP. If you aren’t familiar with Kill From the Heart, then you need to be aware of this bona-fide classic of Reagan-era punk—a record that inspired many of the artists that inspired you. This very important document has been remastered with love by Jello Biafra.

ANTISEPTIC / THE SEXUAL - SPLIT LP (FANCLUB)
A nice fan club issue of these two legendary Japanese bands. side A includes THE SEXUAL - the last days 7" flexi 1985 + 1 track from Jisatu compilation from 1985. side B includes ANTISEPTIC - first-last 7" from 1986. Includes insert with info for both bands.  Don't sleep on this.

TEENGENERATE "SMASH HITS" LP (ESTRUS)
REISSUED!!! Fifteen doses of revved-up and raw punk fury culled from FINK and company’s unrelenting kamikaze barrage of 7-inch buzz bombs…only the best of the best from Japan’s undisputed garage/punk overlords, TEENGENERATE! This LP is a fast and furious firebomb of feedback & thunder, tailor made for your next dragstrip showdown or house wrecking party. So, give those worn out singles a rest...back over yer radio, redline your tach.

SAINTS, THE "ETERNALLY YOURS" LP (4 MEN WITH BEARDS)
Eternally Yours is the second album from legendary Brisbane punk band, THE SAINTS. Originally released in 1978 on Sire Records, it features a more fleshed out sound than the snotty, amped up, Stones inspired swagger of their debut, including horn parts and a more R&B inspired vibe. But don't let this scare you, Eternally Yours, is still snotty, hyperactive punk rock of the highest order, and The Saints last great album.

ARTCORE / VINYL FANZINE - ISSUE #30 w/ STATE FUNERAL "Protest Music" 7"
State Funeral is a new band from the U.K. This is the first 7” EP ‘Protest Music’ of political hardcore punk (you can hear three tracks here... http://statefuneral.bandcamp.com/) The EP has six tracks and comes in a two colour sleeve as eight page booklet, with a patch and download code. Helge Schreiber writes at length about Hardcore Holland, featuring; BGK, Deadlock, Disgust, Indirekt, Larm, Neuroot, Pandemonium and Funeral Oration. Helge also allowed us to publish the English translation of excerpts from his book ‘Network Of Friends’, with contributions from Ian MacKaye, Henry Rollins, Dave Dictor, John Stabb and many more. Thirty years on from the release of the Faith/Void split LP, Andy Nystrom talks to Chris Stover of Void, and Michael Hampton of Faith about the record. Half of the session was released as the ‘Music For Men’ 7” EP while the other, stronger half, went undocumented, until now. Beef People played an inventive hardcore punk that took influence from Washington DC and other touring U.S. bands of the early 80’s. You can hear the echoes of Minor Threat, Faith, Black Flag, Negative Approach and other classic hardcore in this lost band. Late vocalist Brian Childers went onto NYHC band Crawlpappy, while guitarist Michael W. Dean went onto S.F.’s Bomb. The EP comes with a large foldout sleeve with lyrics, unpublished photos, a complete biography of the band, seven songs, radio edits and of course, a polythene sleeve. MORE NOIZE ZINE - ISSUE #9
Newest issue of this UK zine contains short but sweet interviews with FUK, DISORDER and THE WANKYS. But more importantly there’s a lengthy article about, and interview with, forgotten UK 82 punk heroes STENCH by Rich ‘Militia’ Walker, telling the full uncensored scandalous story of the band along with tons of never-before seen photos. There’s also a story on IT BITES, which was the name of a series of random cassette tape compilations that pre-dates the modern KBD phenomena by compiling the rare, obscure and better-forgotten unsung heroes of shit punk. There is also a passionate love letter to the best GREEK CRUST records of all time, as well as an exclusive interview with Japanese oi/pogo punx THE BOLLOCKS. Finally, as always, expect bad grammer, crap layout, reader’s letters and pages upon pages of reviews of the latest in peripheral punk and hardcore that normal people don’t give a fuck about! Oh and the cover of the zine is by TEODORO HERNANDEZ (Firmeza-10, OTAN etc). US version printed by Feel It.
