WHAT'S NEW FOR JULY 25, 2014:
http://store.gravemistakerecords.com/collections/all

A nice mid-summer update here so let's get to it - the BLOOD PRESSURE 7" is killer!  You might have heard some of these tracks on their demo from earlier this year and this is the full session, which I imagine sounds a bit nicer than the tape version. Picked up some new releases from the wonderful Lengua Armada including the KONTAMINAT 7", ALERTA ROJA LP reissue, and 2nd 7" from Toronto's one and only S.H.I.T.; finally grabbed a few copies of the latest release from BIG EYES - they offer two brand new tracks on their split with Florida's POST TEENS and hopefully this will tide us over as we all patiently await a new proper BIG EYES release. Grabbed some copies of the SYNDROME 81 Demo 7" - a pretty rad demo that came out last year gets the vinyl treatment, definitely worth checking out! Picked up a handful of other cool 7"s too like the latest from the Bay Area's REPLICA (also restocked their first 7"), and singles/eps from ZEX, LIFE CHAIN, PORKERIA, FORSEEN, and some copies of THE NEXT reissue

Some awesome LPs in this week like the US pressing of the RAKTA LP, the new LP from SIAMESE TWINS (a long overdue follow up to their single that came out a few years back), a highly recommended 12" version of the demo from Australia's NERVOUS TREND; the debut LP from THE ACHTUNGS (also restocked their single on Going Underground); picked up some newer releases from Six Weeks Records like the latest LP from Italy's ANTI-YOU abd a reissue from Florida's NO FRAUD; plus managed to restock a long overdue repress of the debut COKE BUST "Lines in the Sand" LP.  Got around to picking up a few copies of the MERCHANDISE / DESTRUCTION UNIT / MILK MUSIC split LP for my fellow record buying slackers, and if you are in need of a power / pop-punk fix, we've got the latest from SUGAR STEMS and STEVE ADAMYK BAND on Dirtnap, the latest LP from one of my personal favorites, BANNER PILOT, plus some newer releases on Salinas like the RADIATOR HOSPITAL LP, MARTHA LP, and SWEARIN Demo 12".

A TON of tapes in this update too, mostly from the prolific Flophouse Records out of DC. In addition to restocks on the highly recommended RED DEATH and ARMS RACE demos, we've got some new tapes like the "Across the Pond" UKHC comp tape, latest CORRECTION tape, COLLUSION demo, DISXEASE demo, JAVLA demo, and MODERN PROBLEMS demo. Also grabbed some demos from BIG TAKEOVER, REGULATOR, and FOREIGN LAWNS. Finally, for you "readers" out there, picked up the latest issue of EXCITEMENT LEVEL ZERO, a rad hc zine from here in Richmond well worth your $2.

Full list is below, check it out and thanks for reading.

New in the Webstore for 7/25/14:

BLOOD PRESSURE "S/T" 7" (Beach Impediment Records)
Here's the first EP from Pittsburgh's BLOOD PRESSURE, yet another great band that the Iron City has yielded as of late. A few of these songs were available on a limited tape made by the band earlier in 2014, but this EP features the entire 6 song session in all of its glory. Consisting of members that have served time in the likes of DIRECT CONTROL, BRAIN HANDLE, EEL, and NO TIME, expect ripping hardcore with a certain demented vibe that an area like Pittsburgh tends to bring out in folks. Each record comes in a felt based pocket sleeve.

S.H.I.T. "Generation Shit" 7" (Lengua Armada Records)
Toronto’s S.H.I.T. delivers its sophomoric 7" of amazing punk insanity. This four-track stomper will drive you absolutely nuts with infectious luring riffs and pounding drums, topped with Ryan’s insane vocal berating.  Generation Shit is the soundtrack of right now! Get on it or get the fuck out!

KONTAMINAT "S/T" 7" (Lengua Armada Records)
Featuring members of Los Crudos, Sin Orden, Rat Bastards and Chronic Seizure, Chicago’s KONTAMINAT is the latest addition to the Midwest’s amazing history of abrasive, no-bullshit hardcore. Five well-crafted hardcore songs that pack power and rapid-fire energy with a catchy edge. Great shit!

BIG EYES / POST TEENS Split 7" (No Idea Records)
Post Teens are a Gainsville, Fla based band featuring members of Asshole Parade, Torche, Averkiou, and Dead Friends. Post Teens play a great style of music that's aggressive, blown out, fuzzed out, and catchy as hell.  Big Eyes is a three piece band from Seattle, Washington who formed in 2010. Big Eyes play a great style of melodic pop punk and garage rock with killer female vocals. Musically, Big Eyes influences are diverse and include bands such as Cheap Trick, Ramones, The Muffs, and The Descendents. Musically, the band features big riffs and a great garage flavor.  This split 7" features two new songs a piece from each band.

SYNDROME 81 "Demo" 7" (Offsides Records)
Vinyl pressing of the demo from France's SYNDROME 81.  Syndrome 81 delivers 6 songs full of disappointments, nihilism, anger.  6 tracks oscillating between Oi and Hardcore between Blitz and Negative Approach, between 82 and early uk Hardcore, between rage and melody, between Manchester and Detroit.  that came out not too long ago.  "The demo features five of the catchiest oi jams this side of Blitz. Their sound is influenced more by UK oi – and UK82 – than French oi, although some of the riffs sound like a more melodic take on No Class. What comes through most, though, is Blitz’s new wave singles, especially New Age. The guitar line from Une Vie Pour Rien sounds like it could’ve come right off that 7”. Overall the band has a more hardcore punk sound than most oi coming out, but keeps a great balance between melody and aggression."

REPLICA "Beast" 7" (Prank Records)
Blasting urgency with the song-driven edge of early 80's so-cal hardcore mixed at top speed with the brash edges of 90's East Bay punk, this second EP on Prank by Oakland's REPLICA features six tracks of powerful hardcore underlined with undeniable catchiness.  Fueled by lighting-quick drumming, pummeling bass lines, ripping riffs, and snarling vocals,  "BEAST EP"  was recorded at the end of the tour they did last year with Japan's COMPLETED EXPOSITION and it features songs that have long been staples of the band's live set. The EP was recorded at Earhammer by Greg Wilkinson and features a deluxe cover with multiple illustrations by local artist Jon Carling.

ZEX "Wanderlust" 7" (Wired For Sound Records)
Out of a dingy garage in Ottawa, Canada comes ZEX, a brand-new Rock 'n' Roll band fueled by '77-'79 Punk Rock and New Wave of British Heavy Metal singles. It's pointless to name-drop the group's influences—just listen to the lead track, "Savage City," and the B-side, "Buy or Die," which perfectly shows where they're coming from. Though the band features Jo Capitalicide (Iron Dogs, ex-Germ Attak), ZEX isn't a side project or a weekend band; this is a band on a mission.

LIFE CHAIN "Uniformed Cowards" 7" (Adelante Discos)
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada's best kept secret is far from being kept hidden any longer. Hell, even Halifax itself is crawling out of the shadows of obscurity in regards to their hardcore punk scene. With members of CONCRETE ASYLUM, ABJECT PAX, and CONTAGIUM, just to name a few, this unique scene has spawned LIFE CHAIN, who presents their debut EP in top-notch DIY fashion. "Uniformed Cowards" brings the kind of isolated sounds you can only achieve from being somewhere almost as remote as Halifax on the edge of the eastern coast of Canada. It would be too easy to simply pin this record as five tracks of raw d-beat "noise not music" because there is much more happening than what you may hear on the surface. The whole of sides A and B are one continuous journey of manic musical destruction that are relentless in their delivery with each track segueing with the uneasiness and urgency of the track before it. The vocals are haunting and desperate and reach out and pull you into the buzz saw wall of sound which keep you trapped in the entirety of the EP. The record is drenched with reverb, delay, and powerful dbeat which is obvious from the get-go but there is a constant seemingly eerie and unnerving overall feel which leave the listener in an anxious state of despair as if being kept in a locked padded cell, arms bound by delirium. Hand screen-printed 3/4 fold-over covers with a fold-out silk-screened poster included. Limited coke bottle-clear vinyl still available!

PORKERIA "Miserable y Cruda" 7" (Adelante Discos)
After a full U.S. tour and just in time for their two month-long European tour, PORKERIA drops their debut EP. Here you have three new songs taken from the same recording session as their debut LP but these new tunes seem almost like a bit of a deviation from their previous release, yet without losing the same raw and crudeness. This new release presents a little more of an 80's Scandinavian influence but with the same classic Spanish sounds as the LP and the hints of melody do not let up. Side A takes up two tracks "Bastardo Falso" and "Perdidos," and saving the best for last, the whole of the flip side is reserved for the three and a half minute standard mid-tempo punk favorite "No Volvera." As always, English translations included.

PERMANENT RUIN "Hell is Real" 7" (Adelante Discos)
"HOLY FUCKING SHIT. That’s out of the way, so let’s talk about the debut Permanent Ruin EP. This is INSANE – breakneck thrash with huge divebombs and red-eyed intensity. The first scream singer Mariam lets off on opener “Legacy” sounds like it’s going to jump off of the record and wrap itself around your throat. Six tracks and it never lets up for a moment, Perm Cru ratcheting up the tension significantly from their demo/flexi covered here a few months ago, with each track running so fast it sounds like they’re trying to get away from themselves, lest their own asses be kicked. That’ll never go down, though. Maybe it didn’t take eight years of Republican bullshit to really get political punk kicked back into gear, but rather the five years and counting of misery that followed. Boot’s still down on your throat. The breakdown at the end of “Unwasted” is the perfect capper to such a vicious and relentless record. Can’t wait for their next one." - Still Single

NEXT, THE "Make it Quick" 7" (Cheap Rewards Records)
The Next formed in early 1978 after seeing the Sex Pistols play their home town of San Antonio. They soon moved to Austin and became one of only a handful of punk groups in the area, helping to jump start a scene that would later be one of the most recognized in the country.  The Make It Quick EP was released in short supply in 1979 and touted some of the fiercest tunes of the era including the classic "Cheap Rewards." Few realize the song wasn't originally intended for the EP. After dusting off some old 1/4" reel tapes we discovered not only an unreleased and forgotten song titled "Stupid Girls," but also a live radio appearance where the band discusses their upcoming EP with "Mr. Wonderful," "Monotony" and "Stupid Girls." Cheap Rewards is not mentioned.

ROCKERS, THE "S/T" 7" (Cheap Rewards Records)
THE ROCKERS formed in 1977 by longtime songwriting team John “Rock” Perga and Phil Schraub. They wanted to put a live act together to showcase their pop sensibilities, so they added Bryan Allinsmith and Carl Jeppesen to the line-up and began perfecting melodies that incorporated two and three-part harmonies. The Rockers primarily played shows in the bay area and built a significant local following. At the end of 1979, they went in the studio and recorded four of their original songs. Trying to emulate the sound of their favorite British Invasion recordings, they succeeded in producing a highly polished and remarkable sounding 7" EP that was released on their own Alcatraz Records in 1980.  Regarded by many power pop enthusiasts as one of the top records of the genre, Cheap Rewards Records is proud to offer this fully authorized reproduction for a budget price so that fans new and old can enjoy this timeless masterpiece.

FORSEEN "Structural Oppression" 7" (Mind Rot Records)
U.S. Pressing of this crushing 7" by one of Finland's best, Foreseen. For those of you unfamiliar with Foreseen they are a band from Helsinki, Finland playing crossover style hardcore in the vein of Nuclear Assault, S.O.D. and Carnivore. This 7" is a bit of a teaser for their upcoming LP which should be out later this year on 20 Buck Spin. You will probably be hearing more and more about Foreseen in the future and they do have plans to come to the U.S. in 2015 so keep an eye out.

ACHTUNGS, THE "Full of Hate" LP (Going Underground Records)
Debut long player from Finland's The Achtungs , brilliantly deranged maniac music. These guys remind me a lot of the really good Big Balls and the Great White Idiot tracks, you know when they nail it they fucking nail it. Both catchy and dangerous a mix of Stab your back and I have a date. Punk Lives 2014, courtesy of some creeps from Finland and a record store in Bakersfield. You are welcome.

SIAMESE TWINS "Still Corner" LP (Eunuch Records)
Brand new LP from Massachusetts/Illinois dark dream pop trio Siamese Twins.  "Siamese Twins is one-part twee and two-parts goth—the former by way of singer/guitarist Liz Panella, the latter from singer/keyboardist Meghan Minior and bassist/visual artist Jamie Jones. The darkly-shaded dream pop trio came on my radar around the release of their 2011 demo tape. It was a familiar sound—the dim guitar-crunch of Black Tambourine, Elizabeth Fraser's cool, textured vocals—but I couldn't stop playing it. Especially on "Don't Forgive Lightly" and "We Fall Apart", Siamese Twins had an immediacy that seemed to cater straight to my interests. (And perhaps that directness comes from recent backgrounds in punk/hardcore bands like Ampere, Libyans, and Confines, among others.)" - pitchfork.com

RAKTA "S/T" LP (540 Records)
This is what a perfect record sounds like. Every time I talk about it I end up sounding like some blubbering idiot. This music is equal parts post-punk, incantation and psych—hook laden as fuck. RATKA is an all-female band from São Paulo, Brazil, that seem to have come from out of nowhere to make most of the current post-punk/anarcho wave completely irrelevant. This is the next level in this style, borrowing elements from all the spooky classics, but adding something so undeniably new and unique that the game is permanently changed. RAKTA eliminates all sense of retro-ness to the style and come off like they just now invented the damn thing. The songs create an otherworldly atmosphere while still keeping your feet tapping. It transports you to this weird dimension that feels like it’s trying to keep you inside of it forever. It would have been the perfect soundtrack for a Maya Deren film. The record comes with a red-and-black on white poster that only adds to the mysterious bruxa vibes that the music gives. Check out my year-end top ten list in MRR #370 for even more gushing about this record. Highest recommendation! - Maximum Rock N Roll  Each copy comes with 1 of 4 different 24"x36" silk screened poster.

NERVOUS TREND "Demo" 12" (1859 Records)
Nervous Trend's 2013 Demo now on vinyl! Dark Post Punk from Perth, Australia. “Perth/Melbourne band Nervous Trend, featuring Chicago expat Jen Mace on vocals, released a five-song demo EP last October. Sonically, the band do melodic, propulsive post-punk with a real urgency to Mace’s vocals that slots them in nicely alongside Deep Heat and Infinite Void.” - http://www.messandnoise.com

ALERTA ROJA "Algo Esta Cambiando … Y Muy Violentamente" LP (Lengua Armada Records)
Argentinean punk recordings from the years 1982-1986. ALERTA ROJA existed and survived under the nose of a violent and oppressive military dictatorship. The band played gigs in Buenos Aires in the early ’80s, giving a voice to a generation of angry Latin American youth. After so many years, these seventeen tracks are finally getting a proper vinyl release under the name “Something Is Changing…And Very Violently.” Alerta Roja’s influences pulled from music that managed to cross the ocean and fall into the hands of its members—one might hear The Clash, Pistols, or Wire seeping from the groves, but don’t be surprised if you get a small dose of The Cure or Joy Division as you listen to this gem. Alongside as other amazing bands from South America (Peru’s Leuzemia, Zcuela Cerrada, G3, or Uruguay’s Los Invasores), Alerta Roja reaffirms that despite the conditions and lack of resources, these nations produced some amazing punk music/attitude.  QUE VIVA EL PUNK LATINO AMERICANO!!!!!!  QUE VIVA ALERTA ROJA!!!!

ANTI-YOU "Blank Stares" LP (Six Weeks Records)
No band has defined the old school mentality and sound of the early US hardcore bands more than Rome, Italy punks ANTI YOU. Many bands try futilely to capture the spirit and sound of those great days, but only a band of veteran punks, well studied and with unequaled talent, like A.Y really get the job done right.. They can bring the whole era together seamlessly, taking razor sharp, fast European hardcore influence from bands like MOB 47 and RAW POWER and colliding it with the intensely catchy sounds of the early US 1982-84 scenes, channeling MINOR THREAT, ARTICLES OF FAITH and NEGATIVE FX while retaining solid originality, giving the punk world a new set of classic punk songs for this current millennium. This new, limited 12" really just pushes the whole circle-pitting mess over the top!! 500 made.

NO FRAUD "Revolt! 1984 Demos" LP (Six Weeks Records)
Six Weeks Records has unearthed the earliest material from Florida's No Fraud dating back to before their first legitimate demo and subsequent 7" and LP. These tracks, mostly recorded in a garage in 1984, represent this classic band at their most ferocious, 18 songs of pure, undiluted hardcore punk played at insanely high speeds (think D.R.I.) and with an intense, youthful energy. The package is complete with lengthy and thorough liner notes by founding member Dan Destructo and jam-packed with classic photos, flyers and news clippings documenting the intense and dangerous lifestyle of 1980s punks living and playing in Florida. Limited edition of 500 copies.

FRANTIX "My Dad's a Fuckin' Alchoholic" LP (Alternative Tentacles Records)
Aurora’s Frantix transfixed the early 1980s Colorado punk scene with their unique sound and chaotic live show, releasing just two 7-inch EPs before evolving into the equally renowned grunge band The Fluid, Sub Pop’s first non-Seattle signing who helped lead the label’s grunge invasion of the mainstream. The group’s complete recorded works—both EPs plus rare, unreleased and great-sounding demo and live material—are collected here, most tracks appearing on vinyl for the first time ever. Though many people mistakenly believe that Mudhoney’s well-known version of “My Dad’s a Fuckin’ Alcoholic” is an original, this is the true KBD classic! The mix of Ricky Kulwicki’s unstoppable, lava-flow guitar, Matt Bischoff’s droning, carpet-bombing bass, Davey Stewart’s train-wreck drums, and Marc Deaton’s teenage-zombie vocals is downright legendary. Frantix were never just hardcore, and one can hear it on their very first recordings from 1980: beneath the songs’ amphetamine stutter and sonic tachycardia are strands of rock ’n’ roll DNA belonging to Johnny Thunders and Keith Richards. “Dancin’ to Punk” and “FM Ear” are smeared with lipstick traces of the Modern Lovers. The classic “My Dad’s a Fuckin’ Alcoholic,” equal parts Black Flag and Flipper with a touch of the New York Dolls, sports a simple but unforgettable bass riff and sing-along chorus and was a local favorite that grew to national underground prominence after its original release. Frantix shared the stage with national acts and punk legends like Black Flag, TSOL, Circle Jerks and Dead Kennedys.

URINALS, THE "Negative Compatability" 2LP (In The Red Records)
In The Red is proud to announce this double-vinyl release of The Urinals’ Negative Capability, originally released by Amphetamine Reptile on CD in 1996. Before changing their name to the less restricting 100 Flowers and becoming one of the most respected underground post-punk-pop acts in the US, Los Angeles’s seminal trio released eleven songs during their 1977-1980 tenure—ten on their three 7-inch singles and one more on a 7-inch compilation, all on their own Happy Squid label (they were about the only Los Angeles band to do that back then). This retrospective triples their output to 31 songs! Want to hear America’s Wire, only twice as primitive (if that’s possible), with one quarter the sound quality? Even when they are covering the Soft Machine’s “Why Are We Sleeping?” they sound like a three-step primer on minimalism, in scratchy, fast, burping, nutso punk with clipped vocals. You can see why the Minutemen covered “Ack Ack Ack Ack,” but it’s the real solid, melodic stuff—such as the Last-inspired harmonies of the great A-sides “Black Hole” and “Sex,” and “Scholastic Aptitude,” and the instrumental “Surfing With the Shah” (which foreshadows the coming of 100 Flowers and later offshoot Trotsky Icepick)—that makes so many Angelinos remember this goofy but great trio so fondly. Negative Capability has an unrelenting, authoritative intelligence and sense of humor. —Jack Rabid

MERCHANDISE / DESTRUCTION UNIT / MILK MUSIC "USA 2013" Split LP (540 Records)
The Milk Music / Merchandise / Destruction Unit split LP is a document of a 2013 US tour which drew worldwide attention from those interested in the modern US rock underground from a seemingly unlikely combination of bands.  When we say “unlikely” we don’t want to suggest they are ill-fitted. While the songs occasionally scrape against one another in disparate tone and pace, the resulting sparks thrown off do little to affect the overall congruency of these bands, a communal trip and a beautiful come down: we move from the introverted warmth of Merchandise to the sensory overload of Destruction Unit into a blissful, careering drift in the capable arms of Milk Music. The booklet that accompanies the record, designed by Destruction Unit’s J.S. Aurelius, collates some of the fliers and photos from the road, and gives one pause to consider: is this is a document of the best of the American psych underground in 2013/2014?  That’s high talk. But let’s get high: these bands have a relentless work ethic and their members tour continually in these and many other high quality bands, and if they’re not in your city tonight they’ll probably be there tomorrow, so start the party tonight, here, with this record, a perfect place to get acquainted with some of the energy of the heavy current that is flowing through the underground right now.

EX-CULT "Midnight Passenger" LP (Goner Records)
Ex-Cult’s Midnight Passenger is the result of a never-ending obsession with the open road. It’s the sound of five people spending the last year in countless dive bars and disgusting motel rooms, sleeping on dozens of dirty floors. Since recording with Ty Segall in 2012 the band hasn’t come up for air, putting under their belt four US tours and tons of weekend trips with the likes of Segall, OBN III’s and Captive. In these sanme dive bars across the USA Ex-Cult truly found their sound. While some of the songs were played for audiences as early as January 2013, it wasn’t until a West Coast tour in June that the blueprint for Midnight Passenger really started to form. Taking pieces of every tour back home with them, the band honed a sound that captures the desperation of the first record while integrating new techniques of negative noise. Recorded by Doug Easley in January 2014, Midnight Passenger delivers ten songs meant to be heard together, each one following a different, damaged storyline. The buzz-saw guitars, krautrock rhythms and sneering vocals are all still present, but with Midnight Passenger, Ex-Cult adds a few layers of psychedelic slime to their sound.

STEVE ADAMYK BAND "Dial Tone" LP (Dirtnap Records)
Ottawa’s Steve Adamyk Band returns with their 4th LP (released barely a year since the last one), Dial Tone, and it’s their best yet!  For this release, SAB travelled to Oakland, CA to record with Matthew Melton of Warm Soda/Bare Wires fame. Melton grew up in Memphis and that influence definitely shows on Dial Tone.  While still plenty fast and catchy, Dial Tone shows the band dialing (ha!)  back a little on the break-neck punk/pop tempos of previous releases, with increasing nods to classic rock n’ roll form.  If 2011’s Forever Won’t Wait was their “pop” LP, and 2013’s Third was their “punk” album, let’s call this one their “garage” rock masterpiece!  Throughout their history, the sometimes 3, sometimes 4 piece Steve Adamyk Band has always had a fluid lineup. On these recordings (their first LP to have the same lineup as the previous album) SAB is Steve Adamyk (duh), Davey Quenselle, Dave Forcier, and Sebastien Godin (also of Sonic Avenues fame) alongside with guest appearances from Matthew Melton and the Primitive Hearts’ Danielle Agnew.  2014 has already been a busy year for the band, releasing a 7” on La-Ti-Da Records, touring Japan with Needles//Pins (7” on Dirtnap coming soon!) and playing Dirtnap showcases in NYC and Ottawa. Expect lot’s more to come, as prolific as these guys are, there’s no sign of ‘em slowing down anytime soon!

SUGAR STEMS "Only Come Out at Night" LP
(Dirtnap Records)
Only Come Out At Night is the second Sugar Stems album to be released on Dirtnap and follows last year's wonderful and warmly received "Can't Wait."  Sugar Stems are still the best power pop band going today, and again the band has delivered a beautifully crafted and immaculately produced collection of songs. Continuing in the direction of Can't Wait, this album finds Betsy's songwriting reaching new levels of sophistication and maturity. And with the added dimension of keyboards, the band's sound is fuller and richer than ever.  Longtime fans hoping for impossibly catchy melodies and big hooks will not be disappointed in Only Come Out At Night.  Betsy has become a veritable powerhouse on vocals, and the band as a whole has never sounded tighter or more assured.  Boasting the band's most beautiful melodies to date along with near flawless production, Only Come Out At Night will delight existing Sugar Stems fans and attract a whole lot of new ones. Whether you're a power pop aficionado or a lover of great music in general, this is one you won't want to miss.

SWEARIN' "What a Dump" 12" (Salinas Records)
The original six-song demo from this Philly/Brooklyn four-piece.  Originally only on cassette, these songs are a bit more straight ahead pop-punk than their later LPs.

MARTHA "Courting Strong" LP (Salinas Records)
The debut LP from this four piece pop-punk from Pity Me, Durham, UK that draws from power-pop and jangly guitar work to create a really energetic catchy record without being saccharine sweet.

RADIATOR HOSPITAL "Something Wild" LP (Salinas Records)
As Radiator Hospital, Sam Cook-Parrott makes imaginative indie pop befitting of his 22 years-- a guy who seems to have all stakes invested outwardly in matters of the heart while stuck too deep in his own head to make it work. His noisy power-pop and home-recorded blues draw from vintage bubblegum and soul as much as twee, injected with the high-pitched anxiety of his own persona, a crushed romantic with a mind always racing to no real finish line. "Everytime he calls you/ I can hear a change in your breath," Cook-Parrott sings on "Our Song", a most resonant highlight from his new Something Wild LP. He spits the words fast as the inner-logic of his brain. "Your voice is hushed and controlled/ Maybe you're just tired of straining your throat/ Or maybe there's something you don't want me to hear." That voice may faintly recall one of the year's best records - WAXAHATCHEE'S Cerulean Salt. Cook-Parrott sang on the LP's "Peace and Quiet" and has recently toured with Waxahatchee on bass. Something Wild on its own should appeal to fans of Waxahatchee's emotional candor and the smart pop-punk abandon of her sister Allison Crutchfield's band SWEARIN'. Fittingly, Allison sang on Wild cut "Are You Feeling Me?", and Swearin's Kyle Gilbride helped record the album at the house they all share in Philadelphia, as he did Cerulean Salt.

BANNER PILOT "Souvenir" LP (Fat Wreck Chords)
By now BANNER PILOT have cemented themselves as a pillar of the ever-swelling Midwest punk scene and continue to reinforce that claim with each subsequent release. 2011’s Heart Beats Pacific elevated Banner Pilot from a band that was notably influenced by the likes of Dillinger Four, Alkaline Trio, and Screeching Weasel, to a band with such a trademark sound and style that they were the ones doing the influencing. Their latest full-length, Souvenir, only serves to strengthen their legend. On every track NICK’s gritty vocals urgently belt out poetically penned lyrics over the top of edgy up-tempo guitars and sprawling bass lines. Pairing instantly catchy melodies with aggressive and smart instrumentation, Souvenir finds a way to be equally comforting and invigorating. To be blunt, these guys literally keep getting better with every album. How is that possible, you ask? Performance enhancing drugs? Deal with the devil? Secret mentoring sessions by Phil Spector? It’s hard to say, really, but sometimes it’s best not to ask questions and just enjoy the results.

SPITS, THE "Kill the Kool" 2LP (In The Red Records)
The space-age mutant punk rockers known as The Spits have been at it for more than a decade now and are showing no signs of slowing down. Their demented, out-of-control stage act (which often includes blood and fire) has inspired many a mosh pit and near-riot. The band’s five albums (all self-titled) and countless singles are brief blasts of hyperactive aggression with a weirdo, mongoloid electro twist that makes them completely unique. Imagine if some of the creatures from film Mars Attacks got a hold of the first Ramones album, Black Flag’s Damaged, skateboards and some musical instruments and decided to start a band, and one would begin to get an idea of where The Spits are coming from. The Spits and In The Red are happy to announce the proper release of Kill the Kool. Previously pressed in an edition of 500 and sold on tour only, this collection has been re-mastered, expanded to a double LP (which spins at 45 RPM) with extra material, and housed in a beautiful gatefold sleeve featuring artwork by comic book artist Keenan Keller. The 22 tracks are pulled from singles sides, outtakes and demos, yet Kill the Kool plays like one of the most cohesive Spits releases rather than an odds ’n’ sods patchwork. To anyone who has yet to investigate The Spits, Kill the Kool is a perfect introduction. It encapsulates everything the band does best—from creepy, weirdo synth tracks to full-on Killed By Death punk rockers. To anyone already familiar with the band, you know you need this!

MEN, THE "Tomorrow's Hits" LP (Sacred Bones Records)
The Men's new LP for Sacred Bones is the tongue-in-cheek-but-still-auspiciously-titled Tomorrow's Hits. This is their first album recorded in a high-end studio and, appropriately, the result is their most high fidelity album to date. That being said, it is still an incredibly straightforward record. Tomorrow's Hits is a concise collection of songs that nonetheless expands the band's ever-evolving musical palette. It's an album full of genre-bending risks, but it reinforces the overarching theme that has come to define its makers: The Men are a great rock band.

V/A "Across the Pond" UKHC Compilation Tape (Flophouse Records)
(Current UK HC comp assembled by Liam from The Flex) w/ Die, Violent Reaction, Flex, Arms Race, Obstruct, etc ++. Released by Milk Run and distributed in the USA by Flophouse.

COLLUSION Demo Tape (Flophouse Records)
Collusion are sick new DCHC band that, while being part of a specific scene, maintain their own grounding and stand off to the side in their own way. This music on this demo reminds me alot of No Justice's "Still Fighting" with a frustrated gruffer singing. This is some hardcore that definitely still falls on the "punk" end of the spectrum. The lyrics are chuck-full of hate, frustration and angst. Great shit. Members of Coke Bust, Public Suicide, Misled Youth, Pure Disgust, etc etc.

CORRECTION "Promo 2014" Tape (Flophouse Records)
Maybe you remember CORRECTION from their demo (Flophouse #1, what the fuck is up?), but it's time to check back in with this Gothenburg, Sweden straight edge hardcore punk powerhouse. This batch of songs, intended to be a 7" for CTW Records in Europe, step up the crusty Scandi vibes (or "Kängiga skandivibbar" pa Svenska). You can expect a caustic combination of: Judge, Skitsystem, Citizens Arrest, Mob 47, and maybe an oddball like Darkthrone (or something... I don't fuck with that shit). These over the top, hyper-political/critical lyrics aim their sights first at the lowest hanging Swedish fruit: "Intellectual sewer / No substance abusers / Disposable Culture / Energy leakage for habitual users." Fucking hard.

DISXEASE 2013 Demo Tape (Flophouse Records)
Disxease are a Sao Paulo, Brazilian mean-as-fuck aggressive straight edge hardcore punk band. This demo highlights their love for early Boston crew-esq with six quick bursts of madness. Portuguese alumuni includes the same cast from such 625 acts as: I Shot Cyrus, Infect and Descarga. This tape flies by in an absolute frenzy and you'll be barking along to this demo on repeat, shouting "Fuck all borders, burn your flags!" Hardcore sem fronteiras!!!!

JAVLA 2014 Demo Tape (Flophouse Records)
Washington DC's repeat offender youth criminals are back again with their take on classic Swedish hardcore punk a-la TOTALITAR. The anger is genuine and the songs are quick explosions of hardcore intensity.

MODERN PROBLEMS Demo Tape (Flophouse Records)
Modern Problems are a sharp breath of pure, uncut oxygen from Buffalo, NY. Strap up for some fast, aggressive, straight edge youth crew hardcore PUNK! I could go on forever about how great this band is and how much they stick out from the majority of their peers in this sub-sub-genre, but I'll keep it short: no cheap-beats, raw recording, no fucking insta-pro-gram-shirt-core here, awesome lyrics. The songs are fast, short, catchy, hard and best of all the Uniform Choice-style vocals are executed with confidence and conviction. As a huge NO REASON fan (How good is "Walk Away"!?!), I was also amped to hear that this band shared song-writing personnel. While still totally maintaing its own vibe, this is the band that I have been waiting for since TFS put out "What We Know." These old timers have just reset the bar and have no regrets for their fucking youth!

SOLITARY CONFINEMENT Demo Tape (Mind Rot Records)
Solitary Confinement is Virginia Beach's latest offering to the world of hardcore and punk and we here at Mind Rot Records couldn't be happier to be releasing their debut recordings. Forming in late 2013 and quickly recording a 5-track demo this band has been turning heads at every show they play. Playing hardcore in the vein of Boston greats: Last Rights, SSD and Jerry's Kids, Solitary Confinement isn't one to be missed.

FOREIGN LAWNS Demo Tape (Demo)
Foreign lawns from milwaukee, WI break the mold for hardcore bands by playing a style that blends all the best parts of mid to late period Black Flag and other early SST bands, features members of Bored Straight if that means anything to you

REGULATOR Demo Tape (Demo)
New demo from the Richmond area, 4 sick barebones hardcore blasts in the vein of INFEST or NEGATIVE FX.

BIG TAKEOVER Demo Tape (Offsides Records)
BIG TAKEOVER Demo is out now. This band comes from California and plays classic NYHC in the vein of Outburst, Breakdown , Agnostic Front and more.

LARM "Reunion 2005 The Netherlands" Tape (Offsides Records)
LARM set from their 2005 Reunion

NIGHT STALKERS, THE "3 Songs Promo" Tape (Offsides Records)
New 3 song promo tape from France's THE NIGHT STALKERSAfter a first effort with a heavy Ratcage/ early T&G vibe, Nightstalkers have grown up mixing straight hardcore/punk bursts with mid tempo songs. The band's malignant nature is evidenced on their slower tracks, the singer's snotty voice adds to the mix.Six tracks exploring out society's deep and morbid drives. You'd better pray that it will be a therapeutic record for these Brest sickos so you don't find them at your door.

NO MISTAKE "Connect the Dots" Tape (Offsides Records)
If you like Negative Approach, SSD, Straight Ahead, Youth of Today, and all that - here you go. "Hard, fast, brutal" (Sparkplug) 9 songs, about 10 minutes of music. Features ex-GO! (Mike Bullshit), Permanent Ruin, In Disgust, and singer used to be a Slapshot roadie, for what that's worth. From Sparkplug mag: ?Once upon a time hardcore had no metal influence. It was as poppy as homicide. Great dinosaurs roamed the earth with names like SSD, YDI, Jerry's Kids, Negative Approach, and so on. You could honestly feel the bands were actually straining themselves terribly if the song made it to TWO WHOLE MINUTES?!?!?!?! This sounds EXACTLY like that. You aren't going to make guitar poses, fall in love, dance in a quirky cute manner. Yer gonna SLAM and yer gonna dig it. Good production, straight ahead attack hard core, just like your mamma used to cook up.

EXCITEMENT LEVEL ZERO Zine - Issue #4 (Zine)
Two years since the previous issue, ELZ hardcore zine out of Richmond calls it a day with one final go. Pat tells it like it is one last time (don't worry though, a new zine is coming), not giving one concern as to who he's alienating nor impressing.  This issue has an interview with the creator of COMBAT STANCE fanzine from the 80's (accompanied by some hilarious reprints of illustrations from the original zine), an interview with Boston's PEACEBREAKERS , and some solid record and tape reviews.  Short, to the point, and no bullshit.

MAXIMIMROCKNROLL #375 - August 2014 (Maximumrocknroll)
Holy smokes, time flies when you’re having fun! Despite a rent raise and USPS wanting to dig through our holey pockets, we’ve still managed to bring you a new supreme edition of Maximum Rocknroll — MRR #375, August 2014! In this issue we talk with Iberian powerhouse UNA BÈSTIA INCONTROLABLE before destroying the US on their upcoming tour; in honor of their very exciting 20th anniversary, we get a special extended interview with Extreme Noise Records; plus an in-depth story on one of Leningrad’s punk progenitors, Andrei “Svin” Panov. In this issue we also feature HC’s newest darlings GLUE from the great country of Texas, too cool for your school Cool Death Records from Down Under give us the skinny on their new releases, and two floor-thumping air-punching stripped-down punk bands from Japan, EIEFITS and THEE MIGHTY FEVERS. Serbian rock ‘n’ rollers S.U.S. discuss breaking the norm in Serbia and bringing back the glam in punk, Barcelona’s VÈRTIGO tell us about their local scene, MISCALCULATIONS from the UK talk about their minimalist yet calculated approach to music, and a tour diary from Canada’s BORN WRONG takes us on a bender and lets us live vicariously through the band’s HC misdeeds. Plus two photo spreads, a special “New Blood” spread, your favorite columnists (plus guests!), book, zine, demo, movie and of course the most extensive record reviews section in punk rock print y’all—plus much, much more! Cover art this month by Jordan Poggerpants.

LABEL UPDATE / Upcoming Releases on Grave Mistake!

The next batch of Grave Mistake releases are all in the works and we hope to have some new music for these up in the very near future. The TENEMENT "Bruised Music Vol. 1" singles collection LP has been pressed, and we are finalizing some art and layout loose ends, so we hope to have this LP out by early September!

Test pressings on the BREAKOUT "True Crime" 7" and the ASYLUM 7" (on Vinyl Conflict) have both been approved as well, and while we are experiencing a few pressing plant delays (along with every other label it seems), that should give us some time to get the art sorted on these as well in time for an early fall release.

THE SUSPECTS "Voice of America" LP reissue is in gear too, test presses have just been shipped so hopefully we'll have that vinyl in the pressing queue shortly for a mid fall release. Finally, the IRON BOOTS Discography LP has all been complied and mastered, so we hope to get that sent off to the plant next week. Looking for a late fall release on that one too, so let's all keep our fingers crossed.

In some other pending new release news, DNA have begun tracking their upcoming 7" and if all goes well there might be a final recording by the end of summer / early fall.  BARGE are currently plugging away at new material for their debut LP - hopefully we will see a recording by fall. On an unfortunate note, it appears that the MERCENARY record has been postponed indefinitely - when we get updates, we'll be sure to let you all know.

Finally - EARTH GIRLS, SUPERCRUSH, and CRETINS 7"s have been out for a little over a month now so hopefully you've picked them up!  For those of you who haven't checked 'em out yet, you can stream them on the Grave Mistake Bandcamp, and we still have some color vinyl available for the Earth Girls and Supercrush singles.

More updates on upcoming releases as they happen, hopefully we will have BREAKOUT and ASYLUM tracks posted within the next few weeks so stay tuned.

WEBSTORE UPDATE: New Releases from GAG, THE COMBAT ZONE, FLESH WORLD, and More!

Here's a short but sweet webstore update for you for the week - so far this summer has been jam packed with great new releases (and reissues) so I'm trying my best to get my hands on as many as I can!  Stocked up on the debut LP from Boston's COMBAT ZONE which has been getting a lot of spins here at GMHQ this week; grabbed a bunch of new releases from Iron Lung Records including the new 7" from San Fran's FLESH WORLD (currently spinning as I type this, highly recommended!), plus new 7"s from GAG and NUDES, and LPs from GAS CHAMBER and WHITE WARDS; grabbed a few more awesome reissues like the THIRTEEN single on Sing Sing and the SADO-NATION "We're Not Equal" LP on Radiation; also picked up some other cool releases (some new, some kinda-new) from the likes of FLESH WORLD (Australia), LAKES, DECRANEO, ASPIRINA INFANTIL, PERFECT PUSSY, COATHANGERS, BUSTED OUTLOOK, BITCHMOUTH, and more!

I also restocked on some titles I've been out of for a little while - both newer releases and some old favorites from BELGRADO, DIE, GREEN BERET, INSTITUTE, SHIPWRECKED, CLOAK/DAGGER, LOST KIDS, BLITZ, SHIVVERS, SHITLICKERS, POISON IDEA, IMPACT, PROTEX, NO COMMENT, TRAGEDY, and more!

Still have some great stuff from the last update as well, including the new MAGIC CIRCLE 7", BLOTTER 7", VIOLENT REACTION 7", PRIESTS 12", ARCTIC FLOWERS LP, FRAU LP, RAZORHEADS Tape, NIGHT BIRDS 7", and more - sadly sold out of the SAVAGEHEADS and LUMPY AND THE DUMPERS singles, but if represses pop up I'm going to try my best to grab more!

Finally, if you haven't heard, all of the NIGHT BIRDS releases on Grave Mistake (Fresh Kills, The Other Side of Darkness, and Born to Die in Suburbia) are currently on sale in the webstore - LPs are $9.00 each, CD's are $4.00, and some package deals which will get you multiple releases for even cheaper! You can see all of the NB stuff currently on sale in the webstore HERE, this will be at this price through July 15th so take adavantage of it if you haven't picked any of em up yet!  NIGHT BIRDS will be heading to Europe at the end of the month as well,  check em out if they are playing near you.

That's all for now, thanks for reading!

NEW WEBSTORE TITLES FOR 7/11/14:

COMBAT ZONE, THE "S/T" LP
After a killer 2013 demo The Combat Zone return with a 12 inch full of total degenerate punk.  Think Boston Not LA meets Back on the Map. This is mean, lumbering, anti social hardcore that is not your friend. Members of Male Nurses, Contingent, Green Beret, Chain Rank, and other fine Boston musical acts.  (Side Two Records)

FLESH WORLD "A Line in Wet Grass" 7"
Our friend Jenn Pelly once described FW like this: "Imagine spiky melodies and washes of reverb mixed with the driving intensity of cold, post-punk spirit—skull-piercing guitar feedback, scratchy riffs, anxious drum builds, ominous moods, and bright guitar hooks when you'd least expect them." and we would be hard pressed to put it better than that.  First pressing is 500 copies on black vinyl and 100 on pink packed in a heavy felt-weave jacket with a handy little insert. Sounds by Brad Dermanouelian. Art by Martín Sorrondeguy.  (Iron Lung Records)

GAG "Locker Room" 7"
Your favorite mid-tempo manglers are back with "Locker Room", the tour single and premier track from the upcoming GAG lp later this year on IRON LUNG RECORDS.  Only 500 copies will be made, housed in a high quality felt-weave sleeve. Sounds by Dave Harvey. Art by Scott Young. (Iron Lung Records)

NUDES "Stain" 7"
Get grimy and low to sensationally uncomfortable hardcore punk music. NUDES lives beneath the street. NUDES is that dirt you swept under the rug. Well guess what, that shit doesn't go away. It disperses and envelops. Sooner or later your life will be nothing but dirt. It's all you'll be able to hear and think on. NUDES loves you. NUDES wants you in their world, under their rug, enthralled and crawling.  "Stain" comes packaged in a big foldout poster sleeve along with a digital download that includes the band-made video for "Bleach Stains". All on black vinyl. Sounds by Dave Harvey. Art by Maryjane Dunphe. (Iron Lung Records)

WHITE WARDS "Cigarette Burns" LP
Continuing in Olympia's tradition of haphazard mangling, WHITE WARDS have finally managed to record a proper LP and it is one mean motherfucker. It's a gritty, nasty Mecht Mensch doing push ups in the Jan's Rooms basement. US hardcore played the way it ought to be. Ugly.  700 copies will grace the planet packaged in high quality materials made in the United States of America. Art and sounds by Jake Dudley. (Iron Lung Records)

GAS CHAMBER "Hemorrhaging Light" LP
Buffalo hardcore has always made a significant yet largely misunderstood contribution to the furthering of musical mastery. And "Hemorrhaging Light" is no exception. With the same 7 notes that everyone else uses, GAS CHAMBER have managed to completely turn mere punk music into a tense, trans-formative journey. Very rarely in punk do we get to have a complete life shift in the space of one album. This is incredible music.  500 copies on black vinyl housed in a heavy duty reverse board jacket with a bonus flexi disc. Sounds by John Angelo. Art by Craig Sheperd. (Iron Lung Records)

DIAT "Everyday" 7"
Our friends from Berlin return with a bursting melancholic post punk single to hold us over until the Energy LP is completed. This is lucky for all of us since the band members almost moved to different continents a few months ago. The drive to stay together is too immense and has crept in to the recording to made a water-tight double sided chest punch of an e.p. Thanks DIÄT, we knew we could count on you. (Iron Lung Records)

THIRTEEN "Girls Aren't the Same" 7"
A Power Pop three-piece formed in 1977 by Mark Ferrick (v/b, who composed the A-side of Dean Wyman’s lone 1978 single), Jim Ferrick (d) and Ian McKean (gtr), Thirteen never managed to gain press coverage and their lone 7” was released in France, Germany and Holland, but not in the UK. Recorded in January 1979 with Phil Cordell co-producing, drums on the 7” were played by Mark Ferrick on one track and a session player on another following the death of his brother Jim shortly before the session. Ian McKean resurfaced a few years later with Twenty Flight Rockers and with Balaam & The Angel, a New Wave combo born from the ashes of U.X.B. Note: a different Oxford-based five-piece group also called Thirteen issued a 7” on the Square label in 1980. (Sing Sing Records)

FLESH WORLD "Planned Obsolescence" 7"
Devastating noisy hardcore from Australia mixing classic USHC power with the intensity and aggression of Italian greats such as WRETCHED and INDIGESTI. This is the vinyl pressing of their cassette only EP from 2011, criminally overlooked and almost lost to time, a cult record in the making. Claustrophobic and chaotic, one of the most over looked Australian hardcore punk records of the last 5 years. Members of TEARGAS, PATHETIC HUMAN, THE ZINGERS, LAKES, RATSAK, and more. Record comes shrinkwrapped, on blood red vinyl, housed in a red and black jacket.  (No Patience Records)

LAKES "Carved Remains" 7"
The follow up single to last years incredible 'Blood of the Grove' LP from Australian punk-punk group LAKES. One of the most exciting bands to emerge from the current Australian underground, LAKES features members of TEARGAS, TAX, ZOND, EASTLINK, and more. Taking influence from cult acts such as DEATH IN JUNE and CURRENT 93 and mixing the power and conviction of Crass Records era anarcho punk ala THE MOB - LAKES are the most realized offering from Australia to fit alongside the current international revival of the post-punk / gothic rock genres. Record comes shrinkwrapped and housed in a stark black and white cover with lush printed inner sleeve.  (No Patience Records)

DECRANEO "Heil Vaticano!" 7"
This Power-punk trio are called "Decraneo," and are now reality. Here you’ve got their first explosive device, their components have spent years in the Mallorquin punk scene playing in bands, such as: Phogo/Mallorkaos/Sindrome de Estokolmo/etc… If you like fast 80s Hardcore punk, with good guitars and incisive lyrics, don’t miss this 7" EP for anything in the world. Seven 80’s Hardcore Punk bombs that sounds like "Sin 34" but with that "Mallorca Punk" sounds that we like so much. The aggressive voice of Maria together with the burning riffs of Santi and Chano on the drums will make you all crazy and you wont stop jumping until you break your head!!!  (Metadona Records)

ASPIRINA INFANTIL "A.I." 7"
Metadona Records present the first EP of a new Mallorkin band, ASPIRINA INFANTIL "A.I" plays a rocking hardcore punk that is totally Old School, but with current sound, perfectly executed with excellent lyrics, killer guitars and a demolishing base rhythm. A.I. Include ex-members of bands such as VERVAL DIARREA, DR.DOOM, PHOGO, DISEASE… The singer, Rafa Murillo is a Mallorkin punk rock legend and the drummer "Gato" was an original member of the legendary Argentinean band FUN PEOPLE. Very few H.C. bands have such good and personal lyrics as the ones Rafa Murillo write. Without doubt one of the best hardcore punk EP´s that have appeared this year worldwide.  6 songs like 6 shots in the neck. Get this EP now and you’ll see that everything said about this band is true, and you’ll want more and more. Aspirina Infantil, the only aspirin able to revive the dead!!!! (Metadona Records)

KOMPLOTT "Sei Vivo, Sei Morto A Nessuno Importa" LP
First record by this brand new combo hailing from Bologna and Milano.  Members of Giuda, Holy and Horror Vacui are hiding behind this ultra riverberated wall of distortion and noise. Fans of D-beat raw punk and old school Italian hardcore punk will be pleased to have their ears slaughtered by this sonic assault where you can feel the urgency of early Negazione, the rage of Eu's Arse and the violence of Kaaos and Shitlickers. Released in 300 copies by the band's own trademark (Complotto Autoproduzioni) and distributed by Komplott and Agipunk.   (Complotto Autoproduzioni Records)

SADO-NATION "We're Not Equal" LP
Formed in 1978 by David Corboy, senior citizen in Northwest punk rock, (who had been playing in bands since 1963!), Portland's KBD punk legends SADO-NATION released their groundbreaking debut EP in 1980, and switched right after to a faster and tighter hardcore punk mostly thanks to the addition of the singer Mish Bondage to the band. Voted best female voclaist by Flipside in 1984, Mish's frightening stage presence and meaningful lyrics, gave Corboy's compositions a new twist, which resulted in one of the most hidden treasures of American 80's Hardcore Punk history. SADO-NATION first lp, originally released on the Brainstem label in 1982, is now legitimately reissued on vinyl for the first time in 30 years, thanks to Radiation Records and the original band members. After years of struggle and despair, hundreds of punk record collections can now be easily completed.  (Radiation Records)

SAVAGE AMUSED "1985 Demo" LP
The Savage Amused are a hard band to nail down. In their brief 8 month existence in 1985 they crafted a sound that is unlike anything else that I have ever heard. The 22 song demo reissued on this LP would seem to meld equal parts of the expected 80s Midwestern American Hardcore but sets it against the non-stop guitar frenzy of contemporary Japanese bands, or are they Robert Fripp solos played at breakneck speed? It’s hard to tell and is far stranger than that. With vocals in the vein of Naked Raygun’s earlier records and the non-stop solos of Randy Uchida this is a sound that stands apart from other recordings of the era. You really need to hear it to start to understand it. Comprised of two brothers John and Joe Bendik who would switch between guitar and drums, front man Bill Morris, who cut an intimidating figure on stage and bassist Alan Peters who went on to be in Agnostic Front and helped found Absolution this is a band that came and went fast, but left an amazing recording behind. Limited to 1,000 copies this remastered LP includes a fanzine style insert with lots of photos and flyers and folds out into a 35X22 inch poster. Includes a download card which gives a full version of the album as well as their complete set from their show opening for Agnostic Front in 1985. (Mind Cure Records)

COATHANGERS, THE "Suck My Shirt" LP
Suck My Shirt is the fourth full-length for The Coathangers. "It's a balance between overthinking and just going for it," guitarist Crook Kid (Julia Kugel) says of their songwriting strategy. It's a duality immediately apparent with the album opener "Follow Me." It’s a classic Coathangers tune with Stephanie Luke's raspy vocals belted out over their signature ragged garage-rock. But the chorus opens into one of the most accessible hooks in the band's canon, just before segueing into the next verse with a squall of violent dissonant guitar. From there the band launches into "Shut Up," a title that harkens back to the brash sass of their first record. The song still has its spikey guitar riffs and shouted chorus, but here The Coathangers sound less like a jubilant version of Huggy Bear and more like the art-pop of late-era Minutemen. Dedicated Coathangers fans will recognize the re-worked versions of "Merry Go Round," "Smother," "Adderall," and "Derek's Song" from their run of limited edition split 7"s, and hearing them in the context of the album shows that these tracks weren't merely isolated examples of the band's more sophisticated side, but were actually demonstrative of the group's increasing capacity for nestling solid melodic hooks and rock heft into their repertoire. By the time the band wraps up the album with the humble pop perfection of "Drive," it's hard to believe this was the band that garnered their reputation off of raucous bombasts like "Don't Touch My Shit." (Suicide Squeeze Records)

COATHANGERS, THE "Larceny & Old Lace" LP
The Coathangers reckless energy from their half-serious roots is every bit as vibrant and rambunctious on their latest album, Larceny & Old Lace. But this time around we’re hearing a band that’s honed their trade and incorporated more stylistic variations. With this broadened artistic horizon, refinement of technique, and Ed Rawls’ production allowing every instrument to shine without detracting from the band’s natural grit, The Coathangers’ latest offering is easily their best record to date. Join the party. (Suicide Squeeze Records)

PERFECT PUSSY "Say Yes to Love" LP
Perfect Pussy are one of the boldest and most intriguing projects to surface in recent years, garnering widespread critical acclaim following the release of a four song EP, titled I have lost all desire for feeling. Veiled beneath layers of exquisitely abrasive noise, frontwoman Meredith Graves' lyrics are disarming, brutally honest and poetic, possessing a feverish intensity that can only be matched by Graves' electric stage presence. Hailing from Syracuse, New York, the band is comprised of members from the local punk and hardcore community. (Captured Tracks Records)

BASTARDS "Maailma Palaa Ja Kuolee" 7"
Classic Finnish punk. Bastards ten track EP "Maailma Palaa Ja Kuolee" originally released on Propaganda Records now re-issued by german label Höehnie Records. (Hohnie Records)

PARTISANS, THE "S/T" LP
Seminal record for any punk in UK, China or whatever you live, fucker!!!! The Partisans were formed in Wales south in 1978 with the original line-up of Phil Staton-voice, Rob "Spike" Harrington-guitar and backing vocals, Andy Lealand-second guitar, Mark "Shark" Harris-drums and Mark "Savage" Parsons-bass.  This line-up will change after one year as Parsons and Staton left the band and Rob took the voice position and entering Louise Wright as bass player. Basically influenced by Sex Pistols, The Clash and Ramones, The Partisans started to cover those bands and playing some own sounds too.  On September 1981 they released their first 7" under the label No Future Records, a fantastic single that helped the band to tour with the likes of Blitz, The Ejected and Peter and the Test Tube Babies. On May 1982 they released their second 7" and when 1983 arrived the band's debut LP was out.  This debut LP is one of the seminal steps on British punk for sure, a record that still sound fresh and strong after 30 years.  (Beat Generation Records)

RIPCORD "Discography Vol. 1" LP
This material has been out of print on vinyl for nearly 15 years. This is the shit, though it is nothing more than just a raw thrash attack. It contains all the tracks from their selfproduced flexi and their first album on Manic Ears RIPCORD definded the english hardcore between 1984 and 1988. Along with HERESY, the STUPIDS, DOOM and EXTREME NOISE TERROR, they were one of the best bands that England had to offer at that time when Cal had gotten his balls sewed on again and the technicolor punks from Kings Road became extinct. RIPCORD, though from Weston-Super-Mare would have loved being a D.C. (TEEN IDOLS / G.I.) or Boston band (S.S.D. / D.Y.S.), but they were one of these bands that could easily outrival their paragons. Their greatest recording event was the John Peel Session (featured on the "More Songs" CD resp. later on the Discography Pt. 3 LP). The entire RIPCORD catalog will be re-released on 3 vinyl LPs in cooperation with Epistrophy in 2002. Steve Hazzard and John later joined SPITE, John and Jim formed DUMBSTRUCK. (Skuld Records)

HHH "Intelectual Punks" 7"
Mid 1980s Spanish hardcore, has a great 80's raw punk vibe like MG15 or old Brazillian HC and some faster songs that are more in line with Pandemonium or Larm. (Discos Enfermos Records)

BEASTMAN "S/T" Tape
Up from the murky depths of the Genesee to take the villagers by storm, the natives have grown restless and resentful. Seminal cassette offering from Rochester, NY aborigines, BEASTMAN cracks skulls in 2014 A.D. Offering up a uniquely New York-stylee of percussive hardcore punk, this cassette thunders forth for twenty minutes amidst spastic blues-oriented guitar work and prehistoric cries of disparagement. Voicing their primitive wisdom on all things unique to the modern savage, from jaw-dropping progress to penny-ante junkies, BEASTMAN draws from 30+ years of straight-from-the-gut hardcore to upturn some fascinating new stones. Like a weirdly punk take on something outlandish like GWAR, these mutants can lay heavy on the floor-tom at ninety miles an hour well enough to shave any lower east side noggin; they can also plow through exceptionally penned ballads, smothering legions of POISON IDEA-worshiping visionaries with an indoctrinated balance of power and finesse. Somewhere in the prehistoric gray lies BEASTMAN: tuning in on some archaic wavelength, powerful enough to broadcast throughout the stateside and beyond. Colorfully illustrated portrait of Rochester’s offering to at-your-throat hardcore punk in the modern age, now available from Jelly Music. (Reel Time Records)

BUSTED OUTLOOK "Plague Hoarder" Tape
World, meet BUSTED OUTLOOK. Four tracks of fast, constructively angry, '88-styled US hardcore that leaves plenty of room for moshing and two-stepping. This demo was done as a studio project of Rich from Permanent Ruin and Jeremy from Scalped handling all the duties themselves (with a crucial help from Fred), but B.O. has recently settled in to a full 5-piece lineup and ready to play shows. BUST! (Warthog Speak Records)

BITCHMOUTH Demo Tape
Bitchmouth is a four piece hardcore punk band from Richmond, Virginia, America. Cassette Demo is their debut EP. Bitchmouth plays a rocking chaotic hardcore that manages to find a groove and ride it out before self destructing into noise. Kelsey Hulvey has a piercing shreak on Red Fingers, Bed Of Filth rocks the stop and start rhythm while Black Candles is nothing less than a kinetic freakout. If you like your hardcore a little shaggy but never less than going full speed ahead, Bitchmouth’s Cassette Demo will serve well. http://bitchmouth.bandcamp.com/ (Demo)

WEBSTORE UPDATE! New BLOTTER, SAVAGEHEADS, VIOLENT REACTION, and MORE!

GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS / MAILORDER
Webstore Update -  July 2, 2014

HUGE update this week ladies and gents, so I won't bother you with too much label news here. One thing I do want to mention is that the EARTH GIRLS "Wrong Side of History" 7" and SUPERCRUSH "Lifted" 7" have been out for a few weeks now, and thanks to everyone who has picked up a copy or gave either record a listen.

Both records are streaming in full on the Grave Mistake Bandcamp as well as on Spotify and other digital spots - so check em out if you haven't yet. There is still some color vinyl available for mailorder, and distros and stores should have these releases shortly as well (if not already).

Hoping to get a "proper" label update out to you this month, still a ton of stuff in the works. Until then, here's what's new in the webstore ...

This webstore update is a culmination of pretty much everything new that came in during the month of June, all of which has just gone in the store within the past week (including some killer brand new titles I just received yesterday).  So in short, it's a LOT of stuff so I'll spare the long run down since everything is listed below.

Stocked up on new releases from Painkiller and Co. (VIOLENT REACTION, MAGIC CIRCLE, RUNNING FOR COVER, plus restocks on WASTE MANAGEMENT, VIOLENT FUTURE and a few more); new Total Punk releases including the latest from LUMPY AND THE DUMPERS; the awesome NIGHT BIRDS "Monster Surf" 7"; the killer debut 7" from SAVAGEHEADS; new Deranged titles from the likes of ARCTIC FLOWERS, PLEASURE LEFTISTS, DAVIDIANS, PREGNANCY SCARES, and PITFALL; a ton of other great new releases from the likes of BLOTTER, FARANG, PROCESS, RHYTHM OF CRUELTY, PRIESTS, FUCKED UP, LOWER, SICK THOUGHTS, PRAISE, and More!

Also grabbed some cool reissues including the IMPACT / EU's ARSE 7", EXTERNAL MENACE "Coalition Blues" 12", not one but FIVE LP reissues from THEE HEADCOATEES, plus a handful of fanclub Dangerhouse and Misfits singles!!!

Cutting it here … full list is below as always so give it a scan and thanks for reading!

New Titles for 07.02.2014:

BLOTTER "Under Armour 77" 7" (Katorga Works Records)
Over the past few years, Austin, TX has seen a resurgence in young, quality hardcore punk bands. Blotter is one of the top tier groups of this new school of Texas hardcore and Under Armour '77, their debut vinyl effort, stands as some of the best work this scene has produced. Primordial ooze USHC at its finest.

SAVAGEHEADS "S/T" 7" (X-Ploit Records)
Savageheads have been at the top of the Boston ranks since their demo came out not too long ago. This is their debut vinyl release which offers 4 tracks (one re recorded) of Partisans style punk. Comes with an insert and giant 22'x22' Savagaheads poster to hang up at your creep hideout. Artwork by D Mango and B Herrmann. This is a split release from yours truly and X-PLOIT tapes. Boston punk on top as always

VIOLENT REACTION "Dead End" 7" (Painkiller Records)
Fresh off a 7 week US tour and last year's debut LP on Painkiller, Violent Reaction return with six new tracks; their first recording as a full band (previously all instruments were played by front man Tom Pimlott). Still raging as ever with their Riot-City-meets-Touch-and-Go sound, but now leaning a little more on their British punk fore bearers.

MAGIC CIRCLE "Lighting Her Fire" 7" (Hell Massacre Records)
Prior to the release of their debut album in 2013, Magic Circle released a self-financed promo single with the album cut "Scream Evil" backed with the non-album b-side "Lighting Her Fire" in an initial run of just 200 copies. Due to demand, Hell Massacre was commissioned to repress the original single, now including a proper picture sleeve. Limited to 500 copies.

LUMPY AND THE DUMPERS "Bat" 7" (Total Punk Records)
St. Louis's Lumpy and the Dumpers are taking over the world one mustard covered sex pit at a time.  Lumpy's back with two more tracks of  throbbing mutilated sludge punk.  Sewer dwellers, bathroom denziens, winged protectors of the caverns all take note because this is music made specifically for you.  Both tracks were originally released as a halloween cassingle and are offered here for the first time on vinyl. 100% TOTAL PUNK.

NIGHT BIRDS "Monster Surf" 7" (Wallride Records)
You have heard it here last…East Coast killers, Night Birds have joined up with Wallride to release an all instrumental Surf EP. 4 raging tunes that will make you wanna leave work and grab your board, including their homage to Mel Brooks “Hope for the Best, Expect the Worst”! Night Birds already ridiculous lineup is complimented with Horns and Synth on this one. Prepare yourself. Limited to a one time Pressing of 1,000 copies

DARK BLUE "S/T" 7" (Katorga Works Records)
This is the debut 7" single of Philadelphia's Dark Blue. Reminiscent of late 80's English oi!/pop, the band's sound is not unlike the perfect marriage of the Stone Roses and Last Resort. A magnificent simplicity is paired with tales of life in Canberra, the capital city of Australia and the spiritual home of bandleader John Sharkey III.

LIFE STINKS "Portraits" 7" (Total Punk Records)
San Francisco's kings of misanthropy are back with two more tracks of slow brooding bummer punk to remind you how pointless your life is. Covered in a wall of noise, negative vibes, a booming dual drum assault, and lurching along at a death march pace. Two of their best tracks yet. Equal parts Flipper, No Trend, and Germs and 100% TOTALLY PUNK.

ACHTUNGS, THE "Full of Hate" 7" (Total Punk Records)
TOTAL PUNK is starting the summer off with a bang. Finland's Achtungs definitely got the memo that here at Total Punk we love songs about hate because they gave us one of the finest songs on the subject these ears have ever heard. A raw blast of pure punk hatred with a hook to boot.. Prepare to feel the hate! 100% TOTAL PUNK

ARCTIC FLOWERS "Weaver" LP (Deranged Records)
After last year’s excellent “Procession” EP, an EP that showcased the Arctic Flowers’ talent for combining the tradition of anarcho/peace punk with a postpunk sensibility, the new “Weaver” LP continues in much the same vein.  Just a great mid-tempo punk rock LP that, in true Arctic Flowers fashion, blurs the boundaries between classic punk, postpunk, and early gothic rock. The long-running DIY background of the band’s members imparts to the songs an urgency one is not likely to find in the more disingenuous bands trying to hop on the recent goth-punk bandwagon.  Weaver is simply an excellent LP.

PLEASURE LEFTISTS "S/T (First)" LP  (Deranged Records)
Their first 12", previously on FANDEATH, available again through Deranged.  Not to be confused with their 2nd 12", also on deranged. Tracks are: Nature of Feeling, Morning in a Room, Suits, Animal Heart, Future Fights, Passage on a Ghost Ship

PREGNANCY SCARES "Mind Control" 7" (Deranged Records)
When they're not busy with their other projects (the Steve Adamyk Band, Crusades, the Ottawa Explosion festival, Bruised Tongue Records, etc.), four dudes in Ottawa make harsh, noisy hardcore under the name Pregnancy Scares.  The EP blasts through four songs in six minutes, and shows that the band are capable of evolving their sound without sacrificing any of the raw aggression that they're known for.

DAVIDIANS "S/T" 7" (Deranged Records)
Summer 2013- Brian Walsby returns from his annual gig as road-dog extraordinaire for MELVINS to his adopted home of Raleigh, NC. He quickly learns of the untimely demise of his proto-HxCx band DOUBLE NEGATIVE during his absence. Undaunted, he and fellow -D/N-er’s Justin Gray & Cameron Craig soldier forward. Joined by Minneapolis lost boy, Colin Swanson-White (SAFEWORDS, VOIGHT-KAMPFF) they immediately embark upon a darker path. Blasting forth a rumbling, angular and aggressive post-punk rock. Debut 7".

PITFALL "S/T" 7" (Deranged Records)
Pitfall was started back in 2010 when the original members of Punch In The Face kicked around the idea of starting an older punk & oi influenced band for fun. The band was worked on for a while but due to personal tragedy, major illness, and other factors it never got off the ground. Eventually, three of the members got together and recorded the songs in 2012 in their practice space and released them as a cassette. This 7" ep is six songs from that 2012 recording.  Members of Los Crudos and Charles Bronson.

IMPACT / EU'S ARSE - SPLIT 7" (Blackwater Records)
Official reissue of one of the most legendary and sought after splits in Italian hardcore history (second maybe to wretched/indigesti??) originally self-released by eu’s arse in 1983 with 1,000 copies pressed. this reissue features the original layout including all the extra inserts and lyric sheets that have not been available in over 20 years! 11 tracks of raw and powerfully intense Italian hardcore clocking in at around 21 minutes. Starting with the eu’s arse side you have 5 tracks of manic aggressive hardcore punk complete with the cracking voice and teenage angst that gives the singer an especially sincere sense of urgency, add to that the discharge-ish riffs and drumming similar to the early Swedish hardcore bands and it all comes together to create a atmosphere of complete hopelessness. Flipping it over you get the first recordings from one of the most legendary Italian hardcore bands, Impact. 6 tracks of pissed off fuzzed out hardcore in its purest form. This record laid the foundation for just about every Italian hardcore and punk band that came after them. An absolute classic!

EU'S ARSE" Lo Stato Ha Bisogno" 7" (Blackwater Records)
Reissue of this Italian band's 1982 EP pressed up for their recent west coast US tour. Like the other early Italian classics, this is raw and wild d-beat raw punk. The Italian bands had a really great sound that was really unlike those of the other raw punk scenes emerging around the world, and if you're into Wretched, Indigesti, etc. you'll definitely want to check out EU's Arse as well.

RUNNING FOR COVER " Demo" LP (Painkiller Records)
Between 2003-2007, Running for Cover was the best kept secret in the Eastern Standard time zone. Dialing in the density and frustration of bands like No Comment and Capitalist Casualties, and playing regional shows along side bands like Iron Lung and Mind Eraser, they never failed to level the audience and the venue. Their 7" and full length album are known by some to be high water marks of their chosen style, but their demo has remained unheard by all but the most devoted. Remixed in 2013 by the band, and properly mastered for the first time, we present their full 2003 demo on a 12". We think those who are already familiar with their work will agree that this stands alongside it perfectly. For those not familiar, welcome to the cult. Members of Running For Cover have also done time in: Gas Chamber, Solutions, Resist Control, Slave State, Dead Language and others.

ETERNAL CHAMPION "Last King of Pictdom" 7" (Hell Massacre Records)
Eternal Champion deliver their first vinyl outing, a 7" single of the kind of hard-worn, power metal that the USA ran thick with in the 1980's. Musically this is cut from the same cloth as Manilla Road in their Crystal Logic/Open The Gates phase or the first Fates Warning album, and spiritually akin to epic fantasy themes and fixations bands like Cirith Ungol, Omen, and Armored Saint took on, with lyrics inspired by the beloved writing of Robert E. Howard. Limited to 500 copies.

FARANG "S/T" LP (Bad Vibrations Records)
Members of the Endless Blockade, Kremlin, School Jerks, etc. 7 songs recorded in November 2013. Comes in DJ sleeve with sticker and colour insert on a one sided LP.  It's later than you think, punk. You're in the ruins of your city. There's a noisome din on the horizon growing louder than hell. You try and act casual but this freakish, angular sound seizes your ears, bones and mind. Black Flags flap and flutter as you De-evolve into the Bastard. Batshit pounding rhythms, swarming atonal solos, and a viciously singular, mutated Punk spirit all take a piece of you and warp your square soul. You're changed now. This is FARANG. Now you're one of us.

PRIESTS "Bodies and Control and Money and Power" LP (Don Giovanni Records)
Priests are the sort of band that is unafraid to look you right in the eye and beg answers to big questions. In early 2012, Priests began playing frantic post-punk, full of tempered tension and thoughtful rage and relentless energy that would come from living in the microcosm of institutional oppression that is DC. Their music conveys a sense of unmatched urgency in their smart, politically charged, noisy songs.  You'd think it would be hard to capture Priests' intensity on a slab of vinyl, but all the dark, aggressive sounds and kinetic energy their known for live come across on Bodies and Control and Money and Power. From the paranoid truths of "And Breeding" to the ripping "Modern Love No Weapon" to the creepy goth feel of "Doctor," it's Priests at their best.

FUCKED UP "Glass Boys" 2LP (Matador Records)
Fucked Up are a punk band. They were a punk band when they started in Toronto more than a decade ago, and they've remained a punk band even as they've ascended to career heights that their younger selves never could've imagined.  Glass Boys isn't a retrenchment or a back-to-basics move; it's too ambitious and complex for that. But after those last two albums, it's tight and concise and direct, an album of real and direct sentiment rather than artifice.  Musically, Glass Boys carries echoes of some of the more ragged and adventurous bands from America's punk past (Husker Du, Dinosaur Jr.), but it also has some of the anthemic charge of the Who and the guttural intensity of Negative Approach. Singer Damian Abraham still growls like a demon, but he's found more range and depth in his bark. Drummer Jonah Falco does something innovative on the LP, adding two separate drum tracks, one of them in half-time, adding a psychedelic, disorienting feel. (A limited vinyl edition of the album includes a bonus version that only features Falco's half-time drums.) The triple-guitar battalion of Mike Haliechuk, Ben Cook, and Josh Zucker still builds symphonies out of feedback and power-chords, but this time around, there's less emphasis on world-crushing riffs and more on world-creating textures. Bassist Sandy Miranda is now even more a part of that storm, her instrument blurring in with that overwhelming guitar roar.

LOWER "Seek Warmer Climes" LP (Matador Records)
Lower make intense music. Seek Warmer Climes, the Copenhagen quartet’s debut album, sparkles with the harmonic dissonance and high-strung urgency of their underground music forebears. But Lower – Adrian Toubro (vocals), Simon Formann (guitar), Kristian Emdal (bass) and Anton Rothstein (drums) – also channel the romance and drama of great singer-songwriters, from late-period Scott Walker to Bryan Ferry. The result is a hugely ambitious and affecting rock album that enters deeply personal and unusual sonic and topical spaces.

MERCHANDISE "Begging for Your Life" 12" (4AD Records)
Having first appeared on a now highly collectable split tour cassette with Chelsea Light Moving at the tail end of last year, 'Begging For Your Life / In The City Light' will receive a one-time vinyl pressing in February 2014.  Weighing in at 14 minutes long, just 1,000 individually numbered copies are being manufactured as a one-sided, clear 12" with etching.

PERSPEX FLESH "S/T" LP  (Static Shock Records)
Long-awaited debut LP from this band out of Leeds, England. Their previous 7" on Video Disease was great and the LP totally tops it. I still feel like Perspex Flesh bear at least a passing resemblance to Hoax in that their songs tend to trudge along at this really menacing tempo, but Perspex Flesh is a lot less stripped down. The sound is really chaotic but at the same time melodic, especially for a hardcore band. This is probably an out-there reference given the fact that these guys are a hardcore band, but the way melodies emerge out of the noisy din actually reminds me a bit of Shoppers at points, though you can tell these guys have probably paid a lot of attention to their Rudimentary Peni records as well. As you can probably tell by how all over the place these references are, this is a pretty original-sounding LP and definitely one of the best hardcore records of late. Strongly recommended.

RHYTHM OF CRUELTY "Dysphoria" LP (Crude City Records)
Newest LP from this Edmonton Canada Post-punk band "New Post Punk / Goth from Edmonton Canada.  "Rhythm of Cruelty exudes a strong blend of Lo-Fi sound and gothic appeal.  Not all bands can get the whole "dark atmosphere" thing down without coming off pretentious or derivative. There is a real strong image of British punk bands that immediately come mind. Like Joy Division, the feel is a dark one twined with a string of blissful melody throughout. Yet, it posses a modern feel, a definite product of what is possible electronically in music in this age."

FRAU "S/T" LP (Dead Beat Records)
London ladies FRAU stay ahead of the trend and revisit late 70's/early 80's Post Punk with impeccable results.  On FRUA's debut vinyl offering they spew molten Bass-centric Punk Rock where jagged, lacerating guitars splash across each other in succinct, volatile harmony.  Pure burly, shambolic Punk Rock that brings to mind early DIY Post Punk creativists like Liliput, Kleenex, and The Raincoats played at near HC velocity.  A big part of FRAU's inventive, disheveled charm is their warped, out of place, tempo changes and low brow recording experimentation that are as much a part of their "sound" as the wall of scuzz feedback that delightfully, envelops each song.  They create broodingly, unbalanced soundscapes of raw, hostile music that's both biting, powerful and dripping with character spat from their own witty, Feminist tongue.  Fans of Kleenex, Bikini Kill, Flipper, Gang of Four and Huggy Bear will be all over this.  Member of Good Throb.

SICK THOUGHTS "My Mess My Life" LP (Dead Beat Records)
De-gen Scumfucs SICK THOUGHTS continue to pick their Garage Punk scabs and stab their way through this atrociously, awesome ripper.  'My Mess My Life' fully lives up to it's pessimistically, seething name by spewing an undeniable arsenal of grimy, scumtastic hits.  Echoes of the Pagans, Reatards, Oblivians and GG Allin are screamin' outta this nihilistic, fuzz-fucked, riff fest where SICK THOUGHTS effortlessly find their cathartic sweet spot lodged somewhere between hatred, intoxication and ineptitude.  The burly, brazen riffs are splattered with snarling, bleeding guitar solos that just ooze Teen misanthropy through shredded, mangled chords and venomous, biting vox.  100% barbaric Rock N Roll all the way on this fucker from a band that just flat out rips.

PRAISE "Lights Went Out" LP (React Records)
Having made a name for themselves over the last few years as one of hardcore's most honest and sincere bands, PRAISE now prepares to deliver one of the most anticipated records of the year. "Lights Went Out" builds upon the foundation of the band's two previous EPs ("Growing. Changing. Healing." and "Two Songs") and exceeds the standards set with their earlier work. Strong references to the evolving mid-80's Dischord Records catalog (Minor Threat, Embrace, Dag Nasty) meld effortlessly with the urgency of melodic straightedge bands like Verbal Assault and Turning Point in a way that only PRAISE can. Recorded with Will Yip (Title Fight, Blacklisted) Lights Went Out sounds... well, perfect; the product of years of painstaking development and evolution, crafted with precision and care, fine tuned to the highest standards, and delivered with confidence. Lyrically, Andy Norton offers himself to you unprotected by pretense and unfiltered by ego and confronts his insecurities with an honesty and vulnerability that few people can. This is the kind of record that helps others by sharing the burden. Reach deep.

KEEP IT CLEAR "A Lesson That You're Gonna Learn" LP  (React Records)
(ex-Chinese Telephones, limited to 500 copies, no re-press!)

BRAIN SLUG "Creep/Annihilate Me" 7" (Failure Recordings)
The latest EP from New York’s Brain Slug. Originally released on cassette by Bleeding Edges and Self Acceptance, this is finally getting the vinyl treatment. CREEP//Annihilate Me is a manic blast of ancient NYHC wisdom (Straight Ahead, Krakdown) spiked with a hefty dose of noisy punk (Discharge, etc.).

DRY INSIDES "Sacrafice" 7" (Failure Recordings)
Dry Insides is the deranged brain child of artist Reuben Sawyer, best known as Rainbath Visual (Destruction Unit, GAG, Chelsea Wolfe). Their latest EP, Sacrifice, is a 3 song vicious assault of raw, primitive, Venom influenced hardcore punk with noise rock tendencies. Fans of Hoax, Midnight, and Sexdrome

DEATH INJECTION "Demo" 7" (Failure Recordings)
Originally self-released by the band on cassette tape which almost instantly sold out, this 6 song demo is now available on vinyl for the first time. Fast, pissed, and raw straight edge hardcore punk from Boston. Fans of SSD, Out Cold, ect.

BRAIN TUMORS / PISSWALKER - SPLIT 7"  (Lagerville Records)
The first new material that we've heard from Minneapolis's Brain Tumors for quite some time and it totally rips... this time around they have a bit stronger production that makes their nasty, snotty hardcore stand out even more. As for Piss Walker, I don't know anything about them, but they have a gnarly, Japanese-influenced sound that reminds me less of burning spirits-type stuff and more like the Systematic Death-style, hyper-fast 1-2, 1-2 hardcore with catchy vocals and breaks. A ripping little hardcore split!

DOGCHAINS "Give/Take" 7" (Straight and Alert Records)
DOGCHAINS is a young 5 piece Straight Edge band hailing from Schweinfurt, Germany. They stared to played in 2012 and released a 5 tracks demo the same year. Even though they are not around since a long time they already shared the stage with hardcore heavyweights such as Mindset, Cold World, The Mongoloids, Expire, Rotting Out. If you are not familiar with their sound yet, DOGCHAINS sound like Boston 2K bands (Mental / Righteous Jams) messing with Virginia HC ( Iron Boots ) and NYC’s finest of the late 80′s, with a slight JUSTICE touch. What they care about ? Hanging out, good food and sports. Bust!

CLEAN BREAK "Face Value" 7" (Straight and Alert Records)
CLEAN BREAK is Faro's new Straight Edge sensation, formed in the summer of 2013. After a handful of practices, David and Armando decided to record a demo at the band's practice room with the 4 songs they've been working on. The demo tape was released in August 2013 on Salad Days Records. Behind this new band are Faro / portuguese hardcore veterans who used to play in Broken Distance, Critical Point, Pointing Finger, The New Blood or Pressure.  They now return with a brand new 7" titled "Face Value" featuring 4 new songs and 2 re-recorded songs from the demo. We are proud to team up with Salad Days records to release this record. For fans of Mental, DYS,Righteous Jams, The First Step. Faro youth crew flame still burns!

COLUMN "S/T" 7" (Negative Split Records)
This is the newly mastered vinyl release of the long anticipated demo by Seattle's Column that came out last year. Five stripped to the bone hardcore jams under the Chain/Piece influence. Hand screened cover. Digital download code included.

BLOTTER "Under Armour 77" 7" (European Press) (Erste Theketon Traeger Records)
Hey, Hardcore-Fans! Lose your minds! Here’s the real deal. Blotter is everything you want from a modern day hardcore punk band. Over the past few years, Austin, TX has seen a resurgence in young, quality punk bands. Blotter is one of the top tier groups of this new school of Texas hardcore and Under Armour '77, their debut vinyl effort, stands as some of the best work this scene has produced. Primordial ooze USHC at its finest.  Blotter is yet another new hardcore punk featuring members of Wiccans, Glue, Impalers and Creamers.  Blotter delivers just brutal, stomping stuff with a perfect, early 80s-sounding 8-track production. This five piece band rages through five songs in a little over five minutes. Fast precise hard hitting drums, loud distorted guitar that flirts with chaotic, noisy feedback, compliment dynamic and aggressive vocals that have just the right amount of snot and grit. Their sound touches on classic 80’s hardcore, whilst paying no tribute to any other HC band I’ve listened to in the last few years. This is unique, this is weird, fucked up and awesome! No filler on this EP – it’s all legit. No nonsense Hardcore in 2014, go and get your copy. Fuck.

HAPPY HOOKERS FOR JESUS "S/T" 7" (Erste Theketon Traeger Records)
If you are looking for a new and outstanding band from Europe, here you got it. My mind was blown after the first time of listening to these songs that are so depressive, cold, pissed and snotty. One thing was sure: I just had to repress this EP because 200 copies are far too little for this killer 7“. What you get is pure Danish unrelenting punk rock damage! Take the smarmy music oft The Urinals, speed it up to 150 % and crank the volume up to the max and you hear what the Happy Hookers For Jesus are all about. This 7“ is a little bastard of punk that‘s stuck in your head with the first listen. A nihilistic feedback orgy in four acts, packed with merciless insanity, screeching guitars, distorted echo-voice and a totally wasted I-don't-give-a-flying-fuck-
attitude, all thrown together in a stinky garage. So, get it or get lost!

SECRET PROSTITUTES / CROOKED BANGS - SPLIT 7" (Erste Theketon Traeger Records)
Two bands located in Texas, one was singing in French, the other in Indonesian and I’m gonna put out a Split 7“ for them… Do you know which bands I’m talking about!? If not, here is the answer: Crooked Bangs and Secret Prostitutes. After their stunning first record, Crooked Bangs approach their sound in a way that is sinister but also inviting, a veil of gloom — courtesy of Ginestra’s foreboding vocals and Wendel’s snappy guitar work — with an inducing rhythm section. There are elements of ’70s punk and ’60s garage rock lurking throughout, but these influences don’t override their own ideas. The upfront person is vocalist/bassist Leda Celeste Ginestra, who sings like she discovered punk in the catacombs of a Parisian cabaret. Alternating between French and English lyrics, Ginestra brings uncommon depth and richness to macabre depictions of blood castles and flesh-ripping wolves. At the same time, she's quick to morph into guttural, Linda Blair-style screeching when the song demands it. Guitarist Samantha Wendel cuts the clutter in favor of finding the perfect surf-goth tone, while drummer Phillip Gonzalez plows through the anxious night like a pepped-up trucker. On the flip there will be the mysterious reincarnation of KBD Punk. In my opinion there’s no introduction needed! You just have to know that the KBD spirit of the band and the music fit genuinely into the era of the style. They would fit perfectly into the early Houston punk scene of bands looking for a place to play. The beat and Indonesian lyrics will cause you to tap your boot, shake your ass and scratch your head while you’re banging it. But it will always make you smile, unlike your KGB counterparts who haven’t been this confused since trying to understand the argot of contempt sung secretively by bands behind the Iron Curtain.

SNOB "S/T" 7" (Mata La Musica Discos)
From Vancouver B.C. these punks recorded their 8 brutal hardcore punk tracks and dubbed them onto a few demo tapes. It wasn’t long before they agreed to make sure these angst filled songs were pressed on vinyl for your listening pleasure. This band is mean, frantic and loaded with aggression.  Each track is delivered with some pissed off vocals, spastic drums, blaring riffs and some of best driving bass lines. It’s LOUD, it’s PUNK, it’s SNØB and they’ve had a bad day!

SOCIAL DAMAGE "Both Demos" 7" (Straight and Alert Records)
Social Damage is a young american Straight Edge band located in Indianapolis and featuring members of PICKED CLEAN (check out their 7″ on Six Feet Under records). They started to play together in 2012 and released two demo tapes on Criminal Rights records. If STRAIGHT AHEAD were still playing in 2014 they would be called SOCIAL DAMAGE. I was blown away when I first heard their demo tapes. We are extremely happy to repress both of them (now sold out) on a 7".  For fans of Free Spirit, Intent, Judge, Freedom, Straight Ahead and The Straight Edge.

SONY VINCENT AND THE BAD REACTIONS "Replica" 7" (Trend is Dead Records)
Genuine article '77 NY punk legend (Testors, Rocket From The Crypt, etc) teams with young dogs from Carbonas, Sorrows, Beat Beat Beat

V/A "Winds of Change: A Hardcore Compilation" 7" (React Records)
Adding to the legacy of great hardcore compilation 7"s like Revelation's "Together", Teamwork / In My Blood's "Growing Stronger" and more recently Reaper's "Mercy For None", REACT! Records is proud to bring you WINDS OF CHANGE, six exclusive tracks from six of today's most promising young and up-and-coming hardcore bands. For fans of classic 80s hardcore.

VIVID SEKT "From Ruin" 7" (Blackwater Records)
3 new tracks from Portland's very own “peace punks”  - Now a 3 piece w/ Anya and Alex handling main vocal duties after the departure of Ian – these Female fronted thought provoking songs strike a similarity to Fuzzbox at times mixed in with influences of some of your favorite UK82 and peace punk bands (Fatal Microbes/The System/A Heads etc). Influences which they wear blatantly on their jackets, all the while managing to keep their own uniqueness and give a fresh take on a classic genre. The harmony of the dual vocals blended with the not overly distorted guitar lines of Alex (Arctic Flowers) and  driving bass lines from Anya (Moral Hex) keep the melodies of each song strong and sincere while the energy of Greg's (Dog Soldier) drumming drives each track continuously forward. - This is their strongest release to date and a teaser of what's to come, hopefully it won't be too long...

SICK THOUGHTS "Need No One" 7" (Can't Stand Ya Records)
Blown out teenage punk trash from Baltimore.

WHITE PAGES "Bam Bam E.P." 7" (Can't Stand Ya Records)
4 more blasts of punk trash from Boston.

WHITE PAGES "Please Kill Them" 7" (Can't Stand Ya Records)

PROCESS "Our Future? What Future?" LP (Urgent Warning Records)
Gainesville's Process return with a follow up to their demo cassette. Gone is the four track production of the demo in favor of a proper studio sound that only adds to this group's intensity. "Our Future? What Future?" contains 10 relentless tracks of indignation, and while the songs do not stray far from the "DIS" tradition this record offers far more than recycled sounds of the past.  Comes in a screen-printed sleeve with a sticker.

MISCALCULATIONS "S/T" LP (Dead Beat Records)
Ambitious effort from these London pukes .  MISCALCULATIONS bash out 12 snotty, bruising Punk Rock hits spat in yer face by a couplea fucks from THE GAGGERS.  Top tier, rapid-fire, Snot Punk that's got The Dickies, Buzzcocks and The Boys spastic, hyperactive charm smeared all over it - but with a very seething, morose, outlook that works well with the ferocious, poppy grit of the music. Jittery, razor-sharp Wire/Gang of Four/Wipers guitar tangents weave in and out of the songs that are all held together by snarling, bouncy First-Wave lunacy, bristling with fresh ideas and a poetic, melodic bite. Clever, creative song writing reigns supreme on this snearing, fuck-tastic ripper that's one of the gnarliest examples of modern day Punk Rock done right.   File under "Good Shit".

AUTONOMY / DOOMTOWN - Split LP (Trend is Dead Records)
6 new songs from each band, including flip-flopped covers of Buzzcocks & Wipers

CONQUEST FOR DEATH "Many Nations, One Underground" LP (Tankcrimes Records)
Six years ago, CONQUEST FOR DEATH rose from the ashes of WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? The pioneers of “Bandana Thrash” and “Fastcore” have been traveling the globe ever since then, taking their hardcore punk sounds to Asia, Australia, North America, South America and Africa.

ICEAGE "You're Nothing" LP (Matador Records)
You're Nothing" pushes Iceage's singular sound to further extremes. Twelve examples of the myriad ways Iceage have written, and re-written the short aggressive rock song. We're excited for you to hear it.

SONNY VINCENT "Cyanide Consomme" LP (Big Neck Records)
This record is blazing hot.  If you think Sonny has slowed down at any point you are mistaken this record has tougher guitar riffs and more hooks than I have heard since The Testors.  If you do not know who Sonny Vincent is, then you have been in a punk rock coma.  Sonny started the Testors back in 1975 and played with the likes of the Dead Boys, The Cramps and Suicide.  In the early 80's the Testors disbanded and Sonny ended up playing over the next couple decades  with members of the Replacements, Velvet Underground, Dead Boys, Husker Du, and Devil Dogs.  In his career, Sonny has released over 20 records of rock n roll.

WARPAINT "S/T" 2LP (Rough Trade Records)
Warpaint was recorded and mixed by Flood, aside from two songs that were mixed by Nigel Godrich. The album was conceived after some truly inspirational writing and recording sessions that took place in The Joshua Tree late last year. The band was joined there by visionary director Chris Cunningham, who has partnered with them for many of the album visuals including the cover. He spent two years filming and photographing the band as they made new music.

WARPAINT "The Fool" 2LP (Rough Trade Records)
Warpaint weave intricate guitar lines, hypnotic vocals and driving post punk rhythms into gorgeous, sprawling songs that skirt the line between psychedelia and intimacy. Both live and on record, Warpaint sound like they're channeling something truly otherworldly and mystical. The Fool is their utterly mesmeric debut full-length album produced and mixed by Tom Biller (Liars, Jon Brion, Sean Lennon) in Los Angeles, with further mixes from Andrew Weatherall (Bjork, My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream) and Adam Samuels (John Frusciante, Daniel Lanois).

SICK THOUGHTS "Terminal Teen Age" LP  (Dead Beat Records)
Terminal Teen Age LP.  Baltimore scumfucs SICK THOUGHTS come blaring outta the wasteland with 'Terminal Teen Age' and boasts an actual Teenager that blasts awesomely trash-tastic stabs of crude n cruddy Rock N Roll. Seething with nihilism, anger and a ridiculous amount of energy,  this is sloppy, shambolic  Garage Punk at it's best and threatens to explode into three different directions on each and every song.  The string-bashing guitar work alone throws surprisingly agile Blues, Garage and Rock N Roll riffs straight against the crumbling wall to create pessimistic, volatile Teen Age anthems with angst-ridden hooks and catchy, scream-along choruses.  13  bristling tracks of barbaric Rock N Roll trash with an obvious nod to greats like the Oblivians, Reatards, Teengenerate and the Gories.  It doesn't get much better than this.

EXTERNAL MENACE "Coalition Blues" LP (Loud Punk Records)
This record compiles all tracks released during the '80s by one of the best bands to ever come from Scotland, remastered and sounding better then ever. First 500 copies also come with a bonus, four-track EP of two unreleased studio tracks and two live tracks from '83 including a song never recorded.

SELF ABUSE "Teenage" LP (Loud Punk Records)
Wile Bournemouth, UK's Self Abuse only released a few comp tracks and the "Soldier" 7" on The Disrupters Radical Change label they had a few other sessions which only made it to poorly distributed tapes. One of Which was their 12 Track 1983 tape "Teenage" which Loud Punk is proud to bring you for the first time on vinyl. Catchy and tuneful punk in the classic UK fashion

HEADCOATEES, THEE "Ballad of the Insolent Pup" LP (Damaged Goods Records)
Thee Headcoatees revel in the darker side of their nature on 1994's Ballad of an Insolent Pup, which digs deeper into the gals' angst than on most of their albums. Like their mentor Billy Childish (who wrote most of the songs on this set), Thee Headcoatees worship at the altar of garage rock, playing Brit-style beat music with a purposefully crude edge, but while they usually sound like they're out for fun, Ballad of an Insolent Pup uses their ragged '60s-style approach to share their darker moods with us. Most of the tunes here involve men who have done Debbie, Holly, Kyra, and/or Ludella wrong in one way or another, and they're not at all shy in telling us about their anger, resentment and disappointment toward their former lovers. "I Was Led to Believe," "When You Stop Loving Me," and "All My Feelings Denied" are pure rock & roll expressions of the old adage that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. However, while there's more than a little bad feeling vented on Ballad of an Insolent Pup, it's also a great slice of U.K. garage punk, sounding a bit tighter and better focused than most of Thee Headcoatees' discs, and the tunes pack a wallop that keeps the bitterness from overtaking the energy of the performances. After listening to Ballad of an Insolent Pup, it's clear you wouldn't want to cross Thee Headcoatees, but inviting them to your next party would be a capital idea.

HEADCOATEES, THEE "Bozstik Haze" LP (Damaged Goods Records)
From the first notes of the proto-"Wipe Out" opening instrumental "We Are Thee Headcoatees," the fifth album from Thee Headcoatees finds the female garage rock titans in typically raw and rambunctious form. Bozstik Haze celebrates the joys and perils of booze and tobacco ("Name Your Poison"), offers real-life tales of British dentistry ("Baby-Teeth Marge"), documents some sort of poorly defined psychedelic experience (the title tune), and finds the gals struggling with a variety of romantic dilemmas ("I Need Loving," "Speak to Me," "You Ruined My Night's Rest," and more), all accompanied by the roar of cheap guitars and the clatter of energetically swatted drums. With Holly Golightly in the lineup, the vocals offer a bit more polish and nuance than you might expect, but she and her bandmates know when to whisper and when to wail, and even though this album goes for a moody feel on some tracks, most of the time they crank up the amps and let the rock & roll carry the day, not a bad approach to take when your producer is Billy Childish. Childish also wrote the songs for this disc (except for a frantic cover of "I Want Candy"), and his mastery of the garage idiom remains impressive, while Thee Headcoatees show they know how to make the most of the material. At a bit under 28 minutes, Bozstik Haze might be a bit more concise than some consumers would like, but there's no fat and no filler in this package, and it packs a lot of high-quality noise into a small space.

HEADCOATEES, THEE "Girlsville" LP (Get Hip Records)
These girls are totally in the garage! Now from the Sisterhood of Suave, comes this classic garage album from Thee Headcoatees. From the boss cover of “Wild Man” to the hilarious “Dirty Old Man” the Sisterhood brings you Thee Headcoats sound from another perspective. Other gender flipping covers include “Melvin” (Gloria), “Run For Your Life” and “Boysville.” In the beginning was “She Who Is The Void” and throughout time her song has been sung. Find out what happens “When The Night Comes”; learn what’s “Round Every Corner.” Meet the enigmatic “Melvin!” Try some “Stolen Love” but be prepared to “Run For Your Life.” Gone forever are the Sirens who enchanted the men of old. Thee Headcoatees are here and inviting us to visit Girlsville. See you there!

HEADCOATEES, THEE "Have Love Will Travel" LP (Damaged Goods Records)
While generally thought of as the Ladies' Auxiliary of Billy Childish's empire of U.K. garage rock, thee Headcoatees are a fine rock & roll combo in their own right, and their second full-length album, Have Love Will Travel, shows that while they happily collaborate with Childish, they have a style and identity of their own. Childish produced the sessions and wrote most of the songs, but thee Headcoatees display a slightly lighter touch and a more musical approach than their mentor, and they host some fine vocal talent in Holly Golightly and Kyra La Rubia, making Have Love Will Travel a more cheerful and less aggressive work than most of Childish's own projects. The tunes are simple but they boast a higher percentage of hooks than Childish's own albums, and the lyrics deliver a suitably gal-centric perspective on that most traditional of all pop music themes, romance, though they do offer a vital history lesson with "Louis Riel," deliver some sound advice on "Mess of Pottage," and show they can bash as hard as they want on their cover of the Chordettes' "My Boyfriend's Learning Karate." thee Headcoatees aren't so much Billy Childish with girls or Thee Headcoats Lite as a pop-leaning variation on the traditional Medway Rock theme, and this has enough spunk and spirit to confirm that there's nothing wrong with being a pop group, especially when you can cover "Big Boss Man" and "I'm Gonna Make You Mine" this well. Big fun and both tougher and better crafted than you might expect.

HEADCOATEES, THEE "Here Comes Cessation" LP (Damaged Goods Records)
Thee Headcoatees were stripped down to a three-piece for 1999's Here Comes Cessation, which proved to be the final album from the U.K. garage punk gals. If the group didn't seem to have progressed especially far from where they started on their sixth album, they hadn't lost touch with their virtues, either -- with their friend and guiding light Billy Childish writing the songs (except for a cover of Bo Diddley's "Road Runner") and producing the sessions, it comes as no shock that Here Comes Cessation is proudly rough around the edges, and the guitar bashing leans more toward meat-and-potatoes chording than anything fancy. But this heroic trio certainly knows how to deliver the rock, with the rhythm section keeping the big beat pounding loud and proud, the guitar delivering a heaping helping of fuzzy swagger, and the harmonies a sweet and sour expression of girl power in powerful, unpretentious form. Thee Headcoatees also show off their multi-lingual side on the title cut (sung en français), sound almost seductive on the pleading "Is There Any Chance of You Coming into My Life?," and reinforce the notion that they're nobody's fools on "You're Gonna Get What's Coming" and "Keep Your Big Mouth Shut." In short, Thee Headcoatees went out on Here Comes Cessation the same way they went in -- as the coolest, most rockin' gals in the British Isles. No small accomplishment, that.

BAUHAUS "In the Flat Field (Remastered) LP (Beggars Banquet Records)
Few debut albums ever arrived so nearly perfectly formed; that In the Flat Field practically single-handedly invented what remains for many as the stereotype of goth music — wracked, at times spindly vocals about despair and desolation of many kinds, sung over mysterious and moody music — demonstrates the sui generis power of both the band and its work. This said, perhaps the best thing about the album isn’t what it’s supposed to sound like, but what it actually does — an awesomely powerful, glam-inspired rock band firing on all fours, capable of restraint and complete overdrive both, fronted by a charismatic, storming frontman. Starting with the challenging angst of “Double Dare,” with shattering guitar over a curious but fierce stop-start rhythm while Murphy rages ever more strongly over the top, In the Flat Field contains a wide variety of inspirations and ideas. The astonishingly precise rhythm section of David J and Haskins pulls off a variety of jaw-dropping performances, including the high-paced tension of the title track and the brooding crawl from “Spy in the Cab.” Ash, much like his longtime hero Mick Ronson, turns out to be a master of turning relatively simple guitar parts into apocalyptic explosions, from the background fills on “St. Vitus Dance” to the brutal descending chords of “Stigmata Martyr.” Murphy, meanwhile, channels as much Iggy Pop as he does Bowie, proving to be no simple copyist of either, able to both maniacally sing-shout and take a somewhat lighter touch throughout. Concluding with the seven-minute “Nerves,” an aptly titled piece that alternates between understated energy and unleashed power toward a dramatic ending, In the Flat Field started off Bauhaus’ album career with a near-perfect bang.

BAUHAUS "Mask (Remastered)" LP (Beggars Banquet Records)
Managing the sometimes hard-to-negotiate trick of expanding their sound while retaining all the qualities which got them attention to begin with, on Mask the members of Bauhaus consciously stretched themselves into newer areas of music and performance, resulting in an album that was arguably even better than the band’s almost flawless debut. More familiar sides of the band were apparent from the get-go; opening number “Hair of the Dog,” one of the band’s best songs, starts with a double-tracked squalling guitar solo before turning into a stomping, surging flow, carefully paced by sudden silences and equally sudden returns to the music, while Murphy details cases of mental addictions in pithy phrases. The energy wasn’t all just explosive angst and despair, though; the one-two punches of “Kick in the Eye” and “In Fear of Fear” have as much hip-shaking groove and upbeat swing to them as portentous gloom (Ash’s sax skronk on the latter, as well as on the similarly sharp “Dancing,” is a particularly nice touch). Elsewhere, numerous flashes of the band’s quirky sense of humour — something often missed by both fanatical followers and negative critics both — make an appearance; perhaps most amusing is the dry spoken-word lyric beginning “Of Lillies and Remains,” as David J details a goofily grotesque situation as much Edward Gorey as Edgar Allen Poe. Add to that three of the most dramatic things the band ever recorded — the charging, keyboard-accompanied “The Passion of Lovers,” the slow, dark fairy-tale-gone-wrong “Hollow Hills,” and the wracked, trudging title track, where the sudden appearance of an acoustic guitar turns a great song into a near-perfect blend of ugliness and sheer beauty — and the end result was a perfect trouncing of the sophomore-slump myth.

BIKINI KILL "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah" LP (Bikini Kill Records)
This is a reissue of Bikini Kill's second EP, Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah, which was recorded in 1992 with Tim Green (Nation of Ulysses) at The Embassy ? a group-house in Washington, D.C. ? and was the first Bikini Kill release to feature the band's song, "Rebel Girl." Originally a split EP with the Brighton, UK-based band, Huggy Bear, the b-side now features seven previously unreleased Bikini Kill songs drawn from era-appropriate live shows and practice tapes. The artwork has also been updated to include archival photos and liner notes from the Bratmobile's Erin Smith, Comet Gain's David Feck, and the members of Bikini Kill.  Bikini Kill was a feminist punk band based in Olympia, WA and Washington, D.C., forming in 1990 and breaking up in 1997. Kathleen Hanna sang, Tobi Vail played drums, Billy Karren (a.k.a. Billy Boredom) played guitar and Kathi Wilcox played bass. Bikini Kill is credited with instigating the Riot Grrrl movement in the early '90s via their political lyrics, zines, and confrontational live performances.

PIXIES "Wave of Mutilation: Best" 2LP (4AD Records)
During their six years together, The Pixies released five albums to fan, peer, and critical acclaim. This best of album runs almost chronologically and expands on the previous comp, Death to the Pixies with a couple B-sides, the live favorite "Into the White," and a cover of Neil Young's "Winterlong." 'This compilation's track listing is in more or less chronological order (although Surfer Rosa's "Where Is My Mind?" pops up in the middle of the album, after a string of Doolittle tracks), which helps the flow of the collection; since each of the Pixies' albums had its own distinctive feel, the cut'n'paste approach of the previous best-of didn't always serve the songs it collected. More importantly, Wave of Mutilation boasts twenty-three songs, as opposed to the seventeen on the best-of disc on Death to the Pixies . . . In some ways, for die-hard Pixies fans it's easier to miss what isn't here than to appreciate what is; then again, fans can (and probably have) made their own master mixes of what they consider the Pixies' greatest hits. Even though the best way to experience the band is still devouring each of their albums, Wave of Mutilation: The Best of the Pixies is intended as a primer to their work, and - fannish nitpicking aside - it's a far better overview than what was available before.' - Heather Phares / All Music Guide

MISFITS "3 Hits from Hell" 7" (Fanclub Pressing)
3 Hits from Hell was the sixth release from the Lodi, New Jersey horror punk band The Misfits. The 7" EP was released in April 1981 as Plan 9 Records number PL1013. While there was no actual insert, some of the first pressing included a Misfits Fiend Club ad.  All three songs were recorded on 2" 16-track tape at Master Sound Productions in Franklin Square, New York on August 7, 1980 with Bobby Steele on guitar, and mixed with additional guitar tracks by producer Robbie Alter and Jerry Only's younger brother, Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein (Paul Caiafa), on September 5, 1980, following Bobby's departure. After this session, but prior to the release, Doyle officially joined the band as Bobby's replacement.  While none of the other ten songs from this session were released until 1985, after the band had broken up, all 13 tracks were later remixed for the 12 Hits From Hell release.

MISFITS "Beware" 7" (Fanclub Pressing)
Beware was the fifth release from the Lodi, New Jersey horror punk band The Misfits. Since it was originally intended to be available for the group's 1979 UK tour, it combined two earlier, out of print releases, with the substitution of one new track.

MISFITS "Halloween" 7" (Fanclub Pressing)
Halloween is the fifth single by the horror punk band the Misfits. It was released on October 31, 1981 on singer Glenn Danzig's label Plan 9 Records. 5,000 copies of the single were pressed on black 7" vinyl, some of which included a lyrics sheet.[1][2] This was the first Misfits release to use their Famous Monsters of Filmland-inspired logo.  The "Halloween" single was the last Misfits release to include guitarist Bobby Steele. Both songs on the single had been recorded in August 1980 for a planned album. During the sessions bassist Jerry Only was grooming his younger brother Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein to join the band, and Doyle recorded his own guitar tracks and overdubs separately in addition to Steele's. The tracks were mixed in September, but in October Steele was ejected from the band in favor of Doyle and the planned album was scrapped. Five of the songs were released as the 3 Hits from Hell EP, while "Halloween" and "Halloween II" were released as a single. In 2001 Caroline Records announced attempted to release the complete sessions as 12 Hits From Hell, but production was called off after Danzig and Only expressed concerns with the album's layout, packaging, liner notes, mixing, and mastering.

MISFITS "Night of the Living Dead" 7" (Fanclub Pressing)
Night of the Living Dead is the fourth single by the horror punk band the Misfits. It was released on October 31, 1979 on singer Glenn Danzig's label Plan 9 Records. 2,000 copies of the single were pressed on black 7" vinyl.  The night of its release the band performed at Irving Plaza in New York City and sold the single at the door.  "Night of the Living Dead" is titled after the 1968 horror film of the same name, and the song's lyrics address the zombie plot of the film: "You think you're a zombie, you think it's a scene/from some monster magazine/Open your eyes too late/This ain't no fantasy boy".  "Where Eagles Dare" shares its title with a 1968 World War II spy film. "Rat Fink" is a cover of a song by Allan Sherman from his 1963 album My Son, the Nut, which itself is a parody of "Rag Mop". It was the only cover song that the Misfits recorded during their early era, though it was credited on the single itself, and on later releases, to Danzig.

NARCOMAN Demo Tape (Sorry State Records)
When Raleigh’s Cross Laws broke up in 2007, Matt and Daniel went on to form Devour, but Dennis (bass and vocals) took an entirely different path, serving two years as part of the Peace Corps in Turkmenistan and then returning to North Carolina to be a high school teacher in Asheville. While he wasn’t actively playing in any bands, Dennis had his guitar with him through this entire period, crafting and refining a huge backlog on songs. In the summer of 2013 Dennis got together with fellow Cross Laws alumnus Daniel as well as Cameron Craig (Logic Problem, Double Negative, Skemäta) on drums to make raw 4-track recordings of 4 of these songs. The results are quite a bit different from Cross Laws… more complex, refined, melodic, and subtle, Narcoman recalls the best of ambitious, catchy 80s hardcore like Articles of Faith, early Husker Du, and Upright Citizens. This release is limited to 150 copies with a screen-printed j-card, pro-duplicate tapes and download code.

SUNSHINE WARD Demo Tape (Demo Tape)
Over the last couple years, Boston has seen an influx of new hardcore bands, featuring old and new blood alike. Sunshine Ward, featuring members of Brain Killer, stands a cut above the rest and finally released their demo for public consumption. While a much different band than Brain Killer, Japanese hardcore influences can still be heard. The track Progress, for example, brings to mind Burning Spirits. Regardless of influence, Sunshine Ward is writing quality songs, and songs that should get you into the pit. The demo is available for free download from their bandcamp and physical copies should be available in this week. A track was also contributed to the Cream Of The Crop compilation released earlier this year by Best Before 84.

HYSTERICS European Tour Tape
European tape that includes both 7" singles from this awesome NW band.

RAZORHEADS "S/T" Tape (Bleeding Edges Records)
After an incredible demo, Razorheads went back to the studio to record for a 7". They had made 50 promo tapes for New York's Alright Fest, which sold out. The songs were too good to be missed, and the 7" is not on the immediate horizon, so this is a re-press in cassingle format with updated artwork. Razorheads play Japanese influenced D-beat, with lots of distortion and reverb. Contains current members of Suburban Scum and Ugly Parts.

TANK 2006 Demo Tape (Black Dots Records)
Until now, one would be hard-pressed to find much evidence of TANK's existence in the physical world. A small handful of CD-R demos were exchanged amongst friends in the Buffalo punk scene nearly a decade ago. TANK was a band whose life spanned a couple dozen shows in less than two year's time and while members would continue on divergent paths across the hardcore, punk, “extreme music” spectrum, this recording stands time's test as some of their most memorable output. A stylistically unique collection of bleak sounds, owing as much to predecessors NAPALM DEATH or INFEST as it does to the frigid hopelessness of Western New York life. A powerful, hard-hitting document of local hardcore that we're proud to unearth for an unsuspecting public.

TIED DOWN Demo Tape (Black Dots Records)
Buffalo's premier youth crew hardcore and the standout act emanating from the Upstate and Western New York straightedge scene. Comprised of members of the late OUR TIMES, 1988 becomes 2003 becomes 2014 and beyond. YOUTH OF TODAY, WARZONE, SIDE BY SIDE, letterman jackets, and X swatches—a familiar sound, aesthetic and vibe, for a new generation of seekers and believers. Hardcore remains a youth rebellion, relevant and genuine, simply because of bands like TIED DOWN. This is a reissue of the demonstration tape released in 2012 as well as two additional tracks the band recorded, yet never released physically, the following year.

UGLY PARTS "Wet" Tape (Bleeding Edges Records)
Ugly Parts from New Brunswick, NJ released a demo and 7" previously. They took some time to focus on this new EP, and it is worth the wait. "Wet" perfectly captures their sound like My War era Rollins joined Negative Approach, did drugs, then moved to Japan and X-claim released the end result. The production is raw, and contains samples and feedback to flow the whole thing together. Members also currently play in Razorheads.

DEATH INJECTION "Don't Care" Tape (Failure Recordings)
New 3 song cassette from Boston’s Death Injection. They continue putting their own spin on the classic Boston ‘82 sound with their best material to date. Raw, uncompromising straight edge hardcore punk.
