WEBSTORE UPDATE: POWER TRIP, EARTH GIRLS, RED DEATH, NO, and MORE!

Ah yes, time for yet another Grave Mistake update! First off, I of course just want to remind everyone that the BRAIN F≠ Empty Set LP is now available. The new LP has been making the rounds for the past couple of weeks and has received some very positive feedback so far!  You can check out the full record over at the Grave Mistake Bandcamp, and there is still a handful of the limited Green Vinyl available for mailorder.

As I've mentioned in previous updates, I've been planning on upgrading the Grave Mistake Webstore this year and I'm happy to report that we're officially in the "setup" stages with the new store. I'm really excited as it looks a lot nicer and will offer a bit more functionality to hopefully make both browsing and buying MUCH smoother and easier to do.  Once I get my current webstore inventory (and there is a LOT of it!) loaded in and fine tune some layout stuff, we should be ready to roll! I'm hoping to have the new store up and running by mid-March at the very latest.

More news on that as it progresses, and expect some upcoming release news eventually.  Now let's get to this week's Webstore Update …

Plenty of great stuff coming out in 2014, not to mention I'm still trying to catch up on 2013 releases that I've missed as well! Honestly, not too many brand new vinyl releases in this update, but a slew of solid demos and reissues, so here's a quick run down.

I finally scored copies of the newest LP from the UK's NO that came out at the tail end of 2013; "The Great Space" is their second LP and a damn rager. I'm stoked to be able to catch them in a few months when they come over here for their US tour.  Another highly recommended 12" is the POWER TRIP "Armageddon Blues Sessions"; the full session from their long out of print debut 7" now back in circulation courtesy of Triple B Records.  If you haven't checked out POWER TRIP yet then you really should give both this release and their "Manifest Decimation" LP a listen, killer band.

Let's move on to the demo tapes real quick; Nick from COKE BUST / SECTARIAN VIOLENCE has been churning out some great releases on his Flophouse Tapes label, including some sick demos from the UK's ARMS RACE and newest DC band RED DEATH.  Both have been on steady rotation here at GMHQ over the past few months (although the ARMS RACE came out a bit ago, I'm just now getting to enjoy it!).  With these two tapes, along with tapes from AGENT ATTITUDE, OBSTRUCT, PUBLIC SUICIDE, and KOMPLOTT, (not to mention the 7" version of the GENOCIDE PACT demo) this label has covered a lot of ground in a short amount of time and definitely one to keep an eye on!

Speaking of DC, I also just picked up copies of the new ANTI-ZEN "full length" tape which has also been getting steady play around these parts, along with the EXIT ORDER demo (new band from the Boston area), and the EARTH GIRLS demo (new band out of Chicago).  All three are very worthy of your attention!  GRAVE MISTAKE will also be releasing the debut 7" from EARTH GIRLS this spring, more news on that later though …

In addition to these, we've got some new releases from SUICIDAS, MASSES, and WHITE MURDER; I also picked up a bunch of rad reissues this week including the VEX reissue, KILLED BY DEATHROCK VOL. 1 Comp, NEO BOYS 2xLP reissue, CAMERA SILENS LP, KLAXON LP, and SADO-NATION reissues, and THE FREEZE "Freak Show" LP reissue.  Not to mention, picked up recent vinyl represses of both KID DYNAMITE LPs on Jade Tree, and restocked on both ZERO BOYS 12" reissues!

Looking at this recent update, I think it's safe to say that a lot of these have made up the majority of my playlist over the past few weeks and most likely for weeks and months to come, so hopefully you find some stuff worth giving a listen to!

Thanks for reading … see you next week.

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE FOR 02.20.14

(Click the title to go directly to that release in the webstore)

POWER TRIP "THE ARMAGEDDON BLUES SESSIONS" 12" (TRIPLE B)
This one sided 12" features all six tracks recorded by POWER TRIP when they recorded the "Armageddon Blues" 7"; the 7" was only pressed to 500 copies and they were sold out way too quickly. Here's your chance to save some bucks on eBay. Again, these are one sided with a badass Etching on the B-Side of the LP. New layout, new design, very cool shit. Drawing from the sacred texts of the Cro-Mags, Leeway, Corrosion Of Conformity and Nuclear Assault, Texas savages Power Trip has been making waves over the past five years after their debut 7", "Armageddon Blues," came onto the scene. Since then, they have toured all over the world with some of metal and hardcore's biggest acts and made appearances at numerous festivals.

NO "THE GREAT SPACE" LP (VIDEO DISEASE)
After releasing one of the best hardcore records of 2012, No return with their second 12", "The Great Space." No has progressed immensely since their first record, honing in on their sonic assault and pushing the boundaries of what they are capable of producing. The songwriting on "The Great Space" is well-crafted, while still sounding incredibly chaotic and vibrant. The vocals gnash and gnarl, while the band cranks out every song sounds as fast and as hard as they can. No gives the illusion that things are on the brink of completely falling apart. But, this is where they truly excel; No can reel the listener backin from the point of destruction and take them where they never thought hardcore could go. This is the new breed of UKHC. No is planning on infecting the USA with their hardcore overload this Spring with USHC road warriors Stoic Violence. Mastered by Daniel Husayn for maximum earslaughter.

SUICIDAS "NO NOS MATA LA MUERTA" 7" (NO NOSTALGIA)
Back with their second release, SUICIDAS "No nos mata la muerte" unleashes four tremendous tracks of un-hyphenated punk. Hailing from Barcelona and Vienna, this band consists of ex and current members of RUIDOSA INMUNDICIA, BELGRADO and DESTINO FINAL, who are united by a shared enthusiasm for incredibly catchy hooks layered over driving rhythms. Their sound can be located somewhere between THE BRAT and ULTIMO RESORTE, with a nod to HÜSKER DÜ and the DESCENDENTS. Known for their energetic live shows which incite rampant sing-alongs, SUICIDAS will embark on their first US tour this summer and should not be missed.

EARTH GIRLS - DEMO TAPE
Extremely infectious and uber catchy female fronted garage tinged punk out of Chicago featuring members of Daylight Robbery and Libyans.  Highly Recommended!!!

EXIT ORDER - DEMO TAPE
New band from Boston featuring some people that are in some bands you probably already like (or SHOULD like). "Paul gave me this banger last summer, and a quick peep at the personnel involved left no doubt that EXIT ORDER would be every bit as screaming as they are. The first thing you notice is that fukkn guitar - so totally tortured and adversely affected, but a tone expertly crafted by people who still understand the power of a riff (or even [gasp] a song), all of the hooks are there, and they are all in your face...they just sound like they are coming from Jupiter. Positively maniacal drums bash out a flurry of UK82 by way of DBeat and erratic methamphetamine abuse and the pace is pure power. Vocals are perfectly out of place, half shouted/half whined and coming off more like GR'UPS than anything riddled with studs and obscure '80s Euro hardcore patches, but oh man does it ever work. Reinventing the reinvented wheel?" - terminalescape.blogspot.com

ANTI-ZEN - S/T TAPE
A full length cassette release from Washington, DC's Anti-Zen. 11 tracks that takes cues from bands like Rudimentary Peni and Bone Awl. Over 20 minutes of heavy, catchy, desperate, and often haunting punk. From members of Aghast and State Violence.

RED DEATH - DEMO TAPE (FLOPHOUSE)
New band from Washington DC that draws influences from: early COC, later Cro Mags, The Accused, Discharge. Members of Abuse, Zoom, Intent, Protester, Coke Bust, etc.

ARMS RACE - DEMO TAPE (FLOPHOUSE)
Arms Race are a Ryder truck splitting at the seams with fertilizer and petrol in a strong and growing multidisciplinary UK hardcore explosion, along with such bands as (but not limited to): Violent Reaction, The Flex, Obstruct, Perspex Flesh, Stab, and Final Rage. Among the current wave of English groups violently turning our heads, Arms Race maintain an identity of their own with an eclectic formula of influences. Musically, this sounds like Chaos UK having an extramarital relationship with Victim In Pain-era Agnostic Front. The riffs are raw and simple, yet powerful and memorable. The vocals are gruffly shouted in a thick, unmistakably British accent with confidence and zero apologies.

V/A - "KILLED BY DEATHROCK VOL. 1" LP (SACRED BONES)
In 2007, Sacred Bones Records founder Caleb Braaten started unearthing rare and little-heard post-punk, deathrock and dark punk tracks for an eventual compilation. Seven years later, riffing on the tradition of the internationally known punk collector series, Killed by Death, those tracks are finally being released on vinyl, CD, and digital formats as Killed by Deathrock Vol. 1. Bands from all over the world are represented on the comp, from the relatively well-known Scots in Twisted Nerve to the “completely un-Googleable” Move from Italy. Also featured are the French band known simply as Bunker on their first demo tape who later became Bunker Strasse, though still remained largely obscure. Kitchen & the Plastic Spoons formed as a sort of goof band in Sweden in 1980 and only released a couple of 7-inches before disbanding a year later in 1981.  The rest of the comp represents a vast spectrum of geography with the US being represented by Your Funeral, Glorious Din, The Naked and the Dead, Afterimage, and Screaming for Emily. Baroque Bordello (France), and Taste of Decay (Germany) round out the collection. What all these bands have in common, apart from their dark, icy atmosphere, is that they’re quintessential pieces of the deathrock story whose music hasn’t been heard by nearly enough people — until now.

VEX "SANCTUARY: THE COMPLETE DISCOGRAPHY" LP (SACRED BONES)
Despite only being active for a few years in the mid-1980s, Vex left a huge legacy in underground circles for their affecting brand of anarcho-punk. Until now, it was almost impossible to find an original copy of their essential Sanctuary 12-inch on Fight Back Records, let alone their scant other recordings. Sanctuary: The Complete Discography collects all of the Vex material that was ever put to tape on one limited-edition LP for the first time ever. Drop the needle for a lean half hour by what CVLT Nation calls “a very well balanced band that combined the angst of punk with the ethereal vibe of positive punk.”  The lead singer of Vex, who went by the charming moniker of Scrote, had this to say of the reissue: “We were an anarcho-punk band in the truest sense of the word, even though our musical sound may nowadays be classed as something different. We lived, ate and breathed the punk ethic, D.I.Y. culture. We toured with the likes of Conflict and played gigs all over England. The 12-inch Sanctuary was our only solid release apart from various songs on compilation albums. These songs must have stood the test of time as they’re now being rereleased, amazes me really!”  Scrote’s amazement is understandable, but it undersells the quality of his band’s songs. Sanctuary: The Complete Discography is a wholly necessary reissue of a crucial band in punk’s evolution who never got their fair share of the limelight, and Sacred Bones is extremely proud to present their music to a new generation of listeners.

MASSES "HORDE MENTALITY" 7" (RUST AND MACHINE)
Debut EP from Melbourne, Australia's MASSES. Dark post punk with male/female vocals and synth. 4 excellent songs that were recorded and mixed by Phill Calvert of THE BIRTHDAY PARTY. For fans of current bands such as Lost Tribe, Bellicose Minds, Spectres etc but MASSES is no clone. Limited to only 300 copies with less than half of that in the states. This record was split released with BLOW BLOOD records out of Australia...and the pressing was mostly handled there...hence the high wholesale rate. Apologies, but well worth it.

NEO BOYS "SOONER OR LATER" 2xLP (MISSISSIPPI)
At last! A comprehensive double LP featuring one of the most important bands of the Northwest punk scene - The Neo Boys. Active for 5 years (1978 - 83) teenage sisters KT (bass) and Kim Kincaid (vocals), Pat Baum (drums) and guitarists Jennifer Labianco and Meg Hengtes created some of the most melodic, creative and daring punk music of the period and helped forge a place for women in the growing punk music scene. Calvin Johnson has been working with band members to track down the missing tapes of their recordings through the rabbit hole of Northwest basements and closets, and after 20 years of effort, the results are this LP. These recording span from 1977 - 1982, including the long out of print 1980 7" EP (released on Trap Records) and 1982 self released EP "Crumbling myths". Sooner or later also contains many early demos and live sessions that have never been released until now. Includes liner notes. A must for fans of the Wipers, Slits, Raincoats and Dead Moon.

CAMERA SILENS "REALITE" LP (SYDNEY TOWN)
This is the first US issue of this 1985 French Oi Classic. These Bordeaux skunks are considered one of the archetypical French Oi bands alongside WARRIOR KIDS and KOMINTERN SECT. We gave this one the royal treatment! It comes on 200 Gram Vinyl in a heavy cardstock jacket, and is still cheaper than the French import.

KLAXON "1984" LP (SYDNEY TOWN)
In 1984 KLAXON broke with Italian hardcore tradition by adopting a decidedly more melodic punk/Oi sound on their debut EP. Their rolling bass lines and hummable lyrical melodies combined a harmonious charisma with an 80's hardcore attitude. Having never been re-issued on vinyl, this LP contains all 9 songs from that 1984 session including the self-released EP, their track from the legendary Italian Oi comp Quelli Che Urlano Ancora, and 3 previously unreleased songs.

SADO-NATION "DISRUPTIVE PATTERN" LP (GUMMOPUNX)
Compilation of previously unreleased material by this early 80s Portland punk band who you may know from their exceedingly rare debut 7" on Greg Sage's Trap Records and their 1982 LP We're Not Equal. The main attraction here is an aborted 1980 LP session that was previously only released on a Grand Theft Audio compilation CD. This finds the band playing primitive, straightforward 70s punk. The combination of Pistols-influenced riffs and powerful, anthemic lady vox can't help but bring to mind the almighty Avengers, and it's nearly on that level in terms of quality as well. In addition to that LP, you also get 3 songs from a 1983 recording session that were only circulated on an extremely rare promo cassette.

FREEZE, THE "FREAK SHOW" LP (GUMMOPUNX)
Reissue of the Freeze's 1995 LP, and it's actually the first time this full-length has made it to vinyl. This came out at the peak of the 90s pop-punk scene, and while it definitely shows some influence from that scene (particularly in the rather clean production), this is still the Freeze and still has a ton of their rough-around-the-edges sound. If the only things you like are "I Hate Tourists" and Guilty Face this might not be for you, but if you can still get down with Land of the Lost I'd recommend checking this out, as it's a high-energy, catchy punk album along the lines of that record or maybe Horse Bites-era DI.

WHITE MURDER "S/T" LP (RAZORCAKE)
Take the Los Angeles that Dangerhouse captured, double the Exene, strain it through John Reis’s exotic take on the California sun, pour in a Brown Bronco’s worth of Long Beach, and enjoy the shadowy, hostile, born-in-a-bar elegance of White Murder.  Impulsively orchestrated, the songs simultaneously latch on and push away. The vocals plunge to humanity’s depths, only being brought back up by the balance of the bass and guitar. In the center, the drummer is too busy to sit down. Someone’s gotta keep the pot from boiling over.  The waves break and vanish, but the cracks in the sidewalk just keep getting bigger. How can a city feel so dark when the sun is always shinning? It all comes back to the people.  This is a joint release between Razorcake, Recess, and the band.

GENOCIDE PACT "DEMO" 7" (FLOPHOUSE)
Genocide Pact are a new three-piece band from Washington, DC featuring members of Protester, D.O.C. and Abuse. Instead of playing pummeling fast grindcore, like one might expect from their other bands, this trio slows things down a notch and play very sick and heavy death metal in the same vein as Autopsy. The band self-recorded this EP and kept the production as raw and primitive as possible. This is no-bullshit heavy metal from fucking DC!

PUBLIC SUICIDE - DEMO TAPE (FLOPHOUSE)
Public Suicide is the judge, jury and execution of young DC hardcore warrior Robin Zeijlon. These five hateful, rebellious blasts of aggression are fueled by the likes of Negative FX, Confront and Breakdown. The vocals are mean, the hits are hard and the riffs hold you down by the throat. This is 100% pure, unadulterated, unfiltered raging youth energy.

AGENT ATTITUDE - REPULSIVE ACTION TAPE (FLOPHOUSE)
After seeing this young and talented fast hardcore punk band perform night after night on their Summer 2013 European tour, I was honored when they asked me to put out the tape version of their newest EP "Repulsive Action" for their US tour in October. Fans of all the best early 80's USHC will eat this up. It's far from sounding retro, however, as these five young Swedish boys were clearly raised on a liquid diet of Anti Cimex, Mob 47, etc. The snotty vocals and super-tight delivery give this a unique twist.

OBSTRUCT - NO LIFE / DEMO TAPE (FLOPHOUSE)
OBSTRUCT are a young STRAIGHT EDGE hardcore punk band from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire England amidst the current typhoon wave of rough and burly UKHC coming out right now. This tape compiles their demo + the most recent "No Life" EP that recently came out on Northern Wisdom Records. This band draw influences from early 80's Boston, late 80's NYHC and sick early 2000's hardcore for fans of Shark Attack, etc. Fucking hard.

KOMPLOTT - SEI VIVO, SEI MORTO A NESSUNO IMPORTA TAPE (FLOPHOUSE)
I met a few of the guys from Komplott when they toured America with their other band, Holy. Once I heard Komplott I was blown away by the relentless d-beat buzzing chainsaw guitars, furious drums, driving bass and harshly shouted vocals with the reverb at 11. As an Italian man, myself, I was extremely excited to hear something of this quality coming out from my homeland. This release is simply brutal.

WRENCH - DEMO TAPE
UK's WRENCH, for fans of SSD and Poison Idea. Members of Blind Authority.

LION'S LAW "WATCH 'EM DIE" 7" (SYDNEY TOWN)
This new Parisian Oi band features members of MARABOOTS and the legendary KOMINTERN SECT, however they owe more to the bands across the Channel than their French compatriots. The artwork, mastering, and fold-out poster sleeve are exclusive to this US version.

GLITZ "IT'S GLITZ" LP (GLAZER)
GLITZ is a San Francisco punk quartet featuring members of APACHE, THE CUTS, PERSONAL & THE PIZZAS, and WILD THING. On their debut album, It’z Glitz, they combine glittery bombast, bubblegum harmonies and muscular riffs into a sound they call "street glam".

LA LUZ "BRAINWASH" 7" (SUICIDE SQUEEZE)
Seattle quartet La Luz immediately brings to mind the girl groups of the '50s and '60s. The immaculate four-part harmonies, the luscious layers of reverb, the occasional choreographed dance move, even the band?s penchant for oldies-style artwork?it all conjures images of beehived ladies singing sweetly on grainy black-and-white television. But give the new "Brainwash b/w T.V. Dream" single a spin and try to pin down a specific reference point from the past. You can't. The dexterous but economic keyboard lines of Alice Sandhal and the stripped-down groove laid down by the rhythm section of Abbey Blackwell and Marian Li Pino don?t fit in with wall-of-sound icons like The Crystals or The Ronettes. The nimble surf rock twang of guitarist Shana Cleveland is at odds with classic Motown groups like The Marvelettes or The Supremes. Yes, the doo-wop nostalgia is certainly there, but the manufactured glamour and studio sheen is absent. Brainwash b/w T.V. Dream? is available worldwide both digitally and as a 7" on translucent yellow/gold vinyl with a download coupon.

AUDACITY "BUTTER KNIFE" LP (SUICIDE SQUEEZE)
Audacity's latest full-length Butter Knife is still, at its core, a garage rock record. The economic instrumentation, grit-tinged guitar jangle, pogo-prompting tempos, and sing-along choruses can all be traced back to the seminal Nuggets collections. But ultimately, Butter Knife doesn't sound so much like an homage to The Sonics as it sounds like a young band striving to make the most ebullient and jubilant noise possible. Album opener "Couldn't Hold A Candle" is a perfect introduction to Audacity's battle plan; a balanced blend of pop sensibility and ribald power. "Hole In The Sky" showcases the band's gift for the on-the-dime changes, sophisticated melodies, and clever instrumental interplay. "Red Wine" demonstrates a Robert Pollard-like knack for turning an unexpected chord combination into a remarkably punchy chorus. And album closer "Autumn" harkens back to the balladry of power pop kings Big Star. All of which is to say, Audacity are tighter and more clever than your average suburban band, and consequently they're one of the strongest acts in the Southern Californian garage rock scene.

DINOSAUR JR. "BUG" LP (JAGJAGUWAR)
Bug is the third and final pearl in the string of albums released by the original formation of Dinosaur Jr. The music here shows the band moving into ever more orderly realms of composition and structure, even as anecdotal evidence suggests that they were coming apart at their physical seams. It was in this time that people truly began to appreciate the power of the songs that had always lurked inside the band’s sonic cataclysm. Live shows of the period were incredible. They harnessed a very special kind of aggression like no one els,e and the emotional turmoil inside the band frequently erupted into something cathartic and Brobdingnagian. There might be true havoc on stage, now and then, as J and Lou’s antipathy towards each other increased, but more often this negative gush was channeled into an orgy of magnificent meat music. The trio’s roar – one that had initially seemed impossible to contain or control — began to assume a comprehendible shape in front of an audience that was familiar with the material (from the records) and attuned to its details. Their songs were complex in a way that seemed both simple and intuitive, their lyrics were sad and reflective without appearing obnoxiously introspective. These were graspable creative tenets, so it made sense that they would be aped. And aped they were. The band’s profile on the American scene was growing exponentially at the same time. This had been something in the making for a while, but their popularity was blown wide open by Bug, and its accompanying single, “Freak Scene” — a classic slab by any known yardstick.

KID DYNAMITE "S/T" LP (JADE TREE)
KID DYNAMITE'S eponymous debut wants to party like it's 1982, when hardcore street punk was a heartfelt reflection of an alienated life and screaming your head off indecipherably was a performing art. At the same time, this ain't no time warp. Refined for a post-punk generation, these Lifetime and Ink & Dagger alumni keep it relevant with a perspective of the past twenty some-odd years, the wisdom of maturity, and a progressive lyrical approach that carries as much responsibility as it does rage.

KID DYNAMITE "SHORTER, FASTER, LOUDER" LP (JADE TREE)
If they had named their record something else, we'd probably be sitting here right now telling you how KID DYNAMITE'S second and final album is a lot like their first - only shorter, faster, and louder. But goddammit, they beat us to it and now we need to come up with new adjectives for a gloriously no-frills hardcore album so straightforward, precise, and skillfully executed, it probably had to be their last.

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #370 - MARCH 2014

BRAIN F≠ "Empty Set" LP NOW AVAILABLE for Order / Full Album Stream up NOW!

The day is finally upon us! The long-awaited second LP from North Carolina's BRAIN F≠ is finally available! We've got limited GREEN VINYL in the webstore (as does Sorry State Records) and these will begin shipping immediately. The record will be off to our favorite distros and stores this weekend so expect it to be in circulation over the course of the month. And as always, if you do a store or distro and would like copies, feel free to hit either label up and we can definitely help you out.

We have a full stream of the EMPTY SET over at the Grave Mistake Bandcamp page, so head on over and give it a listen!  I think it's safe to say that the wait for another BRAIN F≠ release has definitely been worth it, and we are all very excited that this LP is finally seeing the light of day. The record is also available for full DL in our respective Bandcamp pages, and should be popping up in iTunes, Spotify, and all of your other favorite futuristic record stores next week! Anyone looking to check out the record for review on your blog, website, zine, etc, please feel free to email me with your info and I'll get you sorted.

GRAVE064/SSR-57: BRAIN F≠ "Empty Set" LP
After two killer singles and a much loved, ambitious LP, North Carolina's Brain F≠ return with the long-awaited "Empty Set." The new LP refines the unique formula that worked so well on their debut LP, "Sleep Rough," where jittering hardcore rhythms, cascades of noisy guitar, and charismatically unique vocals collided into an instantly distinctive sound. On" Empty Set," Nick and Elise's vocal interplay sounds more purposeful - passionate, even - but still puzzlingly disaffected in their now-characteristic way. The TEENGENERATE mainline scabbed with myriad strains of DANGERHOUSE streaks remains, but you can hear the sounds of a band growing far more confident in their own singular sound.  Everything that "Sleep Rough" did, "Empty Set" does better, and that’s saying something.

BRAIN F≠ are also scheduled to be playing PHUZZ PHEST in North Carolina this April, so click the link for the info on that!

WHAT'S NEW FOR 2/7/2014:
http://www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog/products_new.php

Keeping the sick new records (and some old favorites) stocked up for 2014!  As I mentioned in my last update, I'm adding new titles to the webstore a bit more frequently now, so I strongly urge you to keep an eye on the Grave Mistake Facebook and Tumblr pages! I promise you I'm not trying to fish for internet friends, I'm just looking out for your best interests!  Some of the new titles I've gotten in recently have sold out before I get a chance to fire off my update email, so keeping an eye on my posts is the best way to get first crack at the new stock.

A brief update this week, picked up the new LP from LOS MONJO, the brand new RITUAL CONTROL 7", some recent LVEUM titles including the ARCHAIC 7" and DHK LP;  a couple of new 7"s on HARDCORE VICTIM including the FORWARD / TEARGAS split 7" and HAVITTAJAT 7" (also restocked on the first KROMOSOM LP as well).  Grabbed copies of the ALERTA! 7", finally got some of the SECT LP, a few copies of the FUNERAL PARADE 12" that was just released; picked up copies of two rad singles from MI's CHIT CHAT, their brand new "Never Know" EP as well as their first single; got a few copies of the GAUCHO demo, new band from Toronto featuring members of S.H.I.T. that you should definitely check out!

Stocked up on some of the newest titles from TRIPLE B RECORDS including the awesome new 7" from RVA's own FRIEND OR FOE, the DEMOLITION and OUR SIDE 7"s, and restocked in the ripping DNA 7" (who will be doing a new EP this year on GRAVE MISTAKE)!  Copies of the POWER TRIP "Armageddon Blues Sessions" 12" are en route to GMHQ, but unfortunately didn't show up in time for today's update so stay tuned and pick up their "Manifest Decimation" LP to tide you over (one of my favorite LPs from last year).

And of course what would a proper update be without some reissues? Finally grabbed copies of the first two 4 SKINS LPs, "The Good, The Bad, & The 4 Skins" and "A Fistful of 4 Skins" reissues; picked up some copies of THE MOB "Let the Tribe Increase" LP, as well as the two BOSKOPS LPs and the SORTO 7". NEW IN THE WEBSTORE FOR 02.07.14:

LOS MONJO "LA VIDA QUE TODOS ENVIDIAN" LP (DISCOS MMM)
Los Monjo are here to take over the world with their signature brand of raw power. From the Oblatos hood of Guadalajara to the alleyways of Barcelona, Los Monjo are known for their explosive live shows and classic sound. Frontman Tucho Monjo's vitriol and swagger harkens back to the days of true performers like Iggy Pop. Lyrics are penned from the school of Eskorbuto, RIP, and MCD, sincere yet venomous. Peter Monjo's guitar licks ignite, propelled by Rene and Cesar Monjo's rolling backbeat. After three 7"s and two splits, Los Monjo deliver their debut full length, a masterful LP, effortlessly executed. These are anthems for generations to come. La mejor banda de Rock Basura del mundo! Europe press on Trabuc Records.

RITUAL CONTROL "NO AFFINITY" 7" (RESIDUE)
Blaring out of the Bay Area comes the harsh sounds of RITUAL CONTROL first EP. 4 songs of blistering female fronted hardcore with members of every band you know you love (CONDITION, NO STATIK, EFFLUXUS). RITUAL CONTROL rips through your throat with a fast aggression and dark sound that reminds me of INITIAL STATE with intense breakdowns. Songs like “Hollow on the Inside” and “Entitlement” will leave you hurting.

FUNERAL PARADE "S/T" LP (MATA LA MUSICA)
In 2010 Funeral Parade released  their only recordings on a limited tape release and later 1 of those songs appeared on a PDX 7” comp. Comprised of band members from Ripper, Nerveskade and Bog People this awesome PDX outfit was short lived and only played a handful of live shows. Lucky for the rest of us they left behind some really good and important recordings on that tape and these tracks had to come to life on vinyl. These tracks were some of the first recordings completed at Buzz or Howl Studios by Stan Wright in Portland, OR.  With influences like Part 1, Vex and UK Decay these recordings were perhaps one the best examples of modern deathrock/post punk that I've heard in the last couple of years. Make sure you get your copy of this 12” before they sell out, this is a 1 time press so don’t sleep on it.

ARCHAIC "NOISE IN YOUR HEAD" 7" (LA VIDA ES UN MUS)
ARCHAIC is a new project based between Berlin, Venice and Barcelona. This debut three track EP is a rusted nail of intense hardcore with industrial undertones which sits somewhere between FOGNA and DESTINO FINAL but with a bigger production. Guitar layers of repetition create a bed of noise when the delay infected vocals lay painfully. Someone called it the NWOIH and I won't be the one saying that isn't the case.

DHK "LA KRUDEZA NO MUERE" LP (LA VIDA ES UN MUS)
DHK (Destruccion, Hurto y Kaos) from Lima, Peru, recorded some demos which I regard as the pinnacle of Raw Punk from last few years. The adjective Raw doesn't apply here in the same way people understand Punk in 2013. D.H.K. don't hide their lack of songs behind layers of feedback, black and white images of dead bodies and clique "crusty" clothes. Instead they scream loud and clear against system, the state, the apathy and the conformism. Their music is raw, heavily influenced by DISCHARGE, the nordic beat and drawing comparisons with the greatest DESTRUCCION from Arnedo. The sleeve artwork created by Teodoro Hernandez portraits perfectly D.H.K.'s insurrectionists spirit.

HAVITTAJAT "S/T" 7" (HARDCORE VICTIM)
Havittajat present four tracks of raging, Finland 82 Apara hardcore via Melbourne, Australia. Ex-members of Kirottu, Kromosom and Leprosy.

FORWARD / TEARGAS - SPLIT 7" (HARDCORE VICTIM)
Burning Spirits international split! Both bands deliver their best work to date!  Fist pumping, guitar blazing, high octane Japanese/ Australian hardcore!

ALERTA! "S/T" 7" (DISCOS ENFERMOS)
First release on vinyl after the demo released this same year (2013). 5 songs from the same recording session of the demo and including one of the songs allready included on the demo. Raw and fast punk hardcore clearly influenced by spanish hardcore bands from the 80s like SUBTERRANEAN KIDS, GRB, HHH or L'ODI SOCIAL as same way as italian 80s hardcore bands like IMPACT, EUS'ARSE, INDIGESTI or WRETCHED. Songs talking about daily routine, about suviving to daily shit, about burning barcelona and shitty people we have to deal day by day. The cover art is made by ALEXANDER HEIR (http://alexanderheir.tumblr.com/) on B/N close jacket with insert with lyrics and infos. First press of 500 copies in cooperation with TRABUC RECORDS.

SECT "S/T" LP (DISCOS ENFERMOS)
Great debut of this international band (poland/venezuela) but based in barcelona. The 10 songs on this lp are pure hits! Mixing perfectly the sound of the english 80s punk on his most anarchopunk way like FLUX OF PINK INDIANS mixed with the most dark sound of those years like THE MOB or KILLING JOKE but basically based on the uk80s anarchopunk. Female vocals reming me to bands like THE EXPELLED or ACTION PACT a lot, totally well completed with a second male vocal in some songs. Totally sharp and catchy guitars full of reverb and really great punk ritmic base totally with uk80s taste. Delux release on black and withe with 350gr jacket and printed 280gr inner sleeve all printed in the reverse side.

DOSES "S/T" LP (GOING UNDERGROUND)
Like a brick of firecrackers taped to the neighbors dog, a mirror covered in dried pus from inflamed pimples, to the paper cut under your index finger, DOSES is an assault on all senses that make pleasurable life miserable. DOSES consist of Kristopher Kirk (Dylan Geiger) & John Gaston (Quin Jostens). DOSES has been a physical manifestation for a year and three months. Consisting of Guitar, Bass, and Drum Machine, DOSES continue to leave audiences in a blur and self doubt as they power through their set of anxiety ridden songs. DOSES draw influences from such acts as The Jesus Lizard, Ministry, Big Black and Kanye West. DOSES are funded by 林淫蟲, a Chinese financial backer who funds DOSES in all of their endeavors. BOUND.

GAUCHO - DEMO TAPE
Raging demo from this new TORONTO band featuring members of S.H.I.T.

CHIT CHAT "NEVER KNOW" 7" (PRTYNGG)
With their debut 7", Chit Chat quickly positioned themselves as one of Michigan's most exciting bands. (Their live shows kill, too.) Now they're back with a new 7", which doesn't exactly have the high-flying Raw Power assault of "Attitude" but instead opts for a slower burn. There's a simmering, sludgy low end provided by Joel Parkkila in "Down", and Kevin McKay's slow-but-crashing pace leaves the band plenty of space to rip. They might be going for a more sprawling sound, but Nick Melody's guitar solos are still incredible and Izzy Johnson's raspy vocals roar with assertive badassery. There are just three songs here, but this 7" is an entirely cohesive statement. It's tempting to wonder what this band will be like in album mode.

CHIT CHAT "UNTITLED" 7" (PRTYNGG)
Debut 7" from Michigan dreamboats. Smart, sharp airy garage sounds. Instantly hooked by surf influenced reverb drenched guitars and '60s garage psych by way of '80s female fronted indie bands.

REPOS, THE "LIVE MUNITIONS" LP (YOUTH ATTACK)
One of the most prolific and influential hardcore bands of our generation is finally captured live with this fourteen song assault recorded in Chicago during a private performance on the west side. This LP contains all their best classics like “Attack From All Sides,” “Lowlife Legion,” and “Voice In My Head,” delivered in a non-stop, three-chord barrage under a tornado of growls by a lunatic frontman. Mixed and mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios for optimal ferocity, making it almost seem like you were there bashing in faces too.

FRIEND OR FOE "OUTSIDER" 7" (TRIPLE B)
Featuring members of Fire & Ice and Bracewar, Friend Or Foe play Agnostic Front-worship hardcore that's sure to make any fan of NYHC psyched. "Outsider" features five new songs and shows that Richmond, VA hardcore is alive and well.

DEMOLITION "WORLD GONE MAD" 7" (TRIPLE B)
Barrie, Ontario, Canada is known for being home to hardcore heroes Demolition. Demolition hits hard with their debut 7", "World Gone Mad." Recorded by Jonah Falco from Fucked Up, "World Gone Mad" features six songs of in-your-face NYHC.

OUR SIDE "BACK TO REALITY" 7" (TRIPLE B)
Boston, MA's newest and youngest band Our Side come out of the gates with their debut 7". Six tracks of no frills, late-'80s inspired New York hardcore. For fans of Agnostic Front, The Rival Mob, Free Spirit and Waste Management.

NO COMMENT "LIVE ON KXLU 1992" 7" (DEEP SIX)
Along with other powerviolence bands such as CROSSED OUT, CAPITALIST CASUALTIES and MAN IS THE BASTARD, NO COMMENT were influential in what was known to become the  “West Coast powerviolence” scene for their aggressive musical and conceptual take on the hardcore punk genre.

4 SKINS "THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE 4 SKINS" LP (RADIATION)
The Good, The Bad & The 4-Skins is the debut LP - originally released on Secret Records in 1982 - from East End Oi! legends The 4-Skins. Recorded with the first stable line-up after mumerous changes, fronted by legendary vocalist Panther (who stepped in after the original singer Gary Hodges' defection), this is violent, political, and as real as Oi! gets, this is one of the absolute classic LPs of the genre. Featuring studio recordings on Side A and amped up live versions of such OI! classics as "A.C.A.B" or "Chaos" on Side B, the album remains a coherent punk masterwork, which also happens to include - in the first song of the LP, 'Plastic Gangsters' - one of the best British 2-tone ska tracks of all-time, composed and sung by 4 Skins' original drummer Gary Hitchcock. A classic LP reissued for a new generation of skins and punk/Oi! fans of all stripes.

4 SKINS "A FISTFUL OF 4 SKINS" LP (RADIATION)
Hailing from London's working class East End, The 4-Skins formed in 1979 at the very onset of Oi! music. By the time this, their 2nd full length, was released in 1983 by the Syndicate Records label, the group had gone through numerous line-up changes and were now sporting a heavier, more melodic, hard rock-based sound fronted by ex-Last Resort vocalist, Roi Pearce. One of the hardest hitting punk albums of the ྌs A Fistful Of 4-Skins is reissued here on LP with 2 tracks ("On The Streets" from the 'Son Of Oi!' compilation and a demo version of 'Saturday') added as bonus!

MOB, THE "LET THE TRIBE INCREASE" LP (OVERGROUND)
In many ways The Mob were the archetypal anarcho punk band. Formed in Yeovil, Somerset in 1979 the band soon spent their time permanently on the road in a convoy of trucks before squatting in Brougham Road, Hackney – a street of houses that accommodated many punk and counter-culture types. Until their demise in 1983 they remained an integral part and a huge influence on the anarcho, traveller and free festival scenes.  Their first release was the 1980 Crying Again single on their own All The Madmen label, followed later that year by the Ching cassette. 1981 saw another single the hugely popular and haunting Witch Hunt soon followed by their now legendary Crass single No Doves Fly Here, both taking anarcho punk into new musically unchartered waters. 1983 saw the release of their now legendary album Let The Tribe Increase, an album that saw them moving away from the constraints of the punk sound as they continued to push the musical boundaries. This trend continued in their epic single The Mirror Breaks. The Mob’s involvement with the counterculture saw them playing gigs with archetypal hippies Here & Now and Androids of Mu as well as being actively involved in the Persons Unknown and Centro Iberico anarchist centres and the Black Sheep Housing Co-operative.  Let The Tribe Increase includes the full album, both tracks from the Mirror Breaks 7″ and a previously unheard demo version of Stay, all professionally remastered. Packaged in a 12-page booklet it contains a band history and the events that surrounded the recording of the album by Kill Your Pet Puppy fanzine editor Alistair Livingston.

BOSKOPS "SOL 12" LP (FAREWELL)
Out of the ashes of the band Blitzkrieg from Hannover, northern Germany, the Boskops were formed sometime between 1982 and 1983. The Boskops were one of the most important bands in their region, alongside other bands like Blut + Eisen, the Cretins or Daily Terror.  The original line-up consisted of two guitarists (one male, one female), a bassplayer, a vocalist and a drummer. The band's name was perhaps taken from an apple species that is sold all over Germany. The fruit is sometimes really bitter but I don't know exactly if this was the inspiration for the band's name.  Due to the Boskops' two guitar players and a vocalist with a roaring strong voice, their first LP, Sol 12, stands as a good stylistic example of what later become known as "Thrashpunk" - less instrumental proficiency but raw highspeed energy and sonic brutality.  This is an officical re-press which comes with a 24-pages booklet and a huge poster. Classic!

BOSKOPS "LAUSCHGIFT" LP (FAREWELL)
Out of the ashes of the band BLITZKRIEG from Hannover, northern Germany, the Boskops were formed in 1982. The Boskops were one of the most important german bands, alongside other bands like BLUT & EISEN, TOXOPLASMA or SLIME! In 1985 Mülleimer Records released their 2nd LP "Lauschgift". The original line-up consisted of two guitarists (one male, one female), a bassplayer, a vocalist and a drummer. Like their 1st LP "Sol12" their 2nd release "Lauschgift stands as a good stylistic example of what later become known as "Thrashpunk" - less instrumental proficiency but raw highspeed energy and sonic brutality. This is an officical re-press which comes with lyric-sheet and sticker. Classic!

SORTO "1984-1986" 7" (POWER IT UP)
Back in print, very raw and chaotic fast hardcore from Mid 1980s Finland. Contains the tracks from the ultra rare ep and a demo.

NEIGHBORHOOD LIFE - ISSUE #1 ZINE
First issue of this hardcore punk fanzine from D.C. I must say, it is incredibly refreshing to see a new, music-focused zine from D.C. Neighborhood Life kicks things off with a short 2013 recap and some 2014 hopes. Moving on, some writing about MENTAL's "Planet Mental", an ode to the now-defunct BLOODKROW BUTCHER, coverage of THE MOB (UK), and a few other small pieces. Best thing about Neighborhood Life is that the enthusiasm here is turned up to ten. If you've ever met the editor, Ambrose, you'll see that his personality really shines through in the writing behind Neighborhood Life. Hope to see more from this upstart zine!

WEBSTORE UPDATE! FLESH WORLD 12", DHK 7", NEIGHBORHOOD BRATS 7", and MORE!

I’ve got a bunch of new titles in this month, totally a mixed bag but I wouldn't have it any other way.  2014 is starting out great! There are a lot of new records and demos I’m looking forward to, and am very excited to be stocking up on in the coming weeks and months.  As I mentioned in my last update, one of my 2014 resolutions was to get the new webstore goods up in the store immediately, rather than waiting a few weeks and loading them all in at once like I've been doing for years. So far, so good … I’ve already sold out a few titles that didn’t even get a chance to make it to the update, so I encourage everyone to keep an eye on the Grave Mistake FACEBOOK and TUMBLR pages as I’ll be posting about most of the new titles there as soon as I get em in the store. I’m also making much more of an effort to pick up new stuff as soon as I can, so definitely keep an eye on the store and these sites so you don’t miss anything!

Some great stuff this month … the new 7” from NEIGHBORHOOD BRATS (one of my current favorites, do yourself a favor and check out their "No Sun No Tan" singles collection as well), the ripping DHK 7”, the long overdue repress of the DAWN OF HUMANS 2nd 7” on Toxic State (I’m hoping to restock on the LA MISMA 7” in the near future too, but sold out for now unfortunately),  a rad single from France’s DEFAITE … give this band a listen I think this 7” might be a bit of a sleeper hit, but I really dig it. The debut 12” from San Francisco’s FLESH WORLD has been on constant play here at GMHQ, as has the new BACKTRACK LP (sometimes you have to mix things up a bit).

I also grabbed some copies of the newly repressed JERRY’S KIDS "Is This My World?" LP.  I should have to tell you but this is an essential record, and if you can’t afford an original that doesn’t excuse you from owning a copy in some form or another! I also restocked on some other TAANG stuff like the BATTALION OF SAINTS “Second Coming” LP and FU’s “Kill for Christ” LP. And as you know, I try to keep the classics in stock at all times so I finally got a bunch of old titles back in stock like COCK SPARRER “Shock Troops,” DAG NASTY “Can I Say,” (as well as the “Dag w/ Shawn” LP), FAITH/VOID LP, MINOR THREAT “First 2 7”s,” ANTIDOTE “Thou Shalt Not Kill” 7”, TEEN IDLES “S/T” 7”, UNDERDOG 7”, ZERO BOYS “Livin in the 80’s” 7”, and a few more hits! Check the restock list below for the full list.

Picked up some awesome tapes as well including some Aussie demos from PRAG and NERVOUS TREND (both of which have been getting a lot of play here as well), the PROCESS demo, and the “Richmond’s Burning” tape; a sick Richmond, VA compilation that has a few up and comers from here in town that you should give a listen to. The comp was brought to us by CABIN FEVER zine, who also have a new issue out (their fifth), so pick it up and give it a read.

Thanks for reading! See you next week.

NEW IN THE WEBSTORE FOR 01.31.14

DHK “EXTINCTION” 7” (HYSTERIA)
If music could kill, D.H.K. (Destruccion, Huesos y Kraneos) would have wiped out half of Lima’s (Peru) Population. This new five-track ep has all the right ingredients to make a perfect punk/hardcore record, devastating bass and guitar riffs that ride over chaotic drumbeats and a ton of fucking spirit. If raw and ugly were drenched in a vat of Discharge, and MG-15 piss the result would be this." 500 Pressed, comes in silkscreened covers.

NEIGHBORHOOD BRATS “TOTAL DEMENTIA” 7” (DIRTNAP)
Neighborhood Brats are back with a one-off 7” for Dirtnap, and it’s a scorcher! Led by crazed frontwoman Jenny Angelillo and guitarist George Rager, and recently relocated to Los Angeles from San Francisco, the Neighborhood Brats are joined on this record by the new rhythm section of Tommy Branch and Richie Cardenas. The new lineup tears through 3 originals (The title track is actually a re-worked version of the b-side of the Roofie And The Nightstalkers lone 7”, Jenny and George’s short lived pre-Neighborhood Brats project.) and a Go-Go’s cover, all to ferocious effect. Neighborhood Brats are one of our very favorite current bands, and we are beyond excited to release this EP! This is a US pressing of a recent limited-to-300 tour 7” that had previously only been available on the Neighborhood Brats’ Fall 2013 European tour. All copies come with download coupon.

DAWN OF HUMANS “S/T” 7” (TOXIC STATE)
Repress of the 2nd DAWN OF HUMANS 7” (and first on TOXIC STATE). “Crazy Spirit may get all of the attention (how could they not with that male model singer??), but everyone in NYC knows that Dawn Of Humans are the trueborn kings of mutant hardcore punk in the city. True freaks in every sense of the word, Dawn Of Humans plays aggressively naive hardcore that sounds like it exists in an alternate universe. Nothing about it make sense. The vocals are the most immediate part about the music, which have become so unhinged and wild that I really don't know how to describe them other than that they are perfect for this. The music itself has grown increasingly complex (sort of?) in a stupid sort of way. I truly hate myself for not being able to do this record justice with my words, as it will definitely appear high up on my top ten records of the year list. This record is just that unbelievable and is beyond any sort of categorization I can provide for it.” - icoulddietomorrow

UMBILICAL CORD “S/T” 7” (VIDEO DISEASE)
Debut 7" from USHC warriors Umbilical Cord. Cold, harsh, and dissonant, Umbilical Cord play an eclectic, almost psychedelic brand of punk/HC that will leave your head spinning. Unorthodox guitars, manic drumming, and a front man that spews more than he sings, these four songs prove that innovative and inventive punk and HC are still present in a world full of imitators and spectators. For those who are looking for something a little different in their HC experience, I am incredibly proud to bring the Umbilical Cord 7" to the masses. Mastered by Will Killingsworth for the ultimate trip. One time pressing of 300 copies all on black vinyl.

DEFAITE “COMME DES RATS” 7” (MUTANT)
Dark Punkrock with solid songwriting, dueling guitars and catchy choruses from lyon, France.  Sort of reminds me of NO HOPE FOR THE KIDS especially in the vocals.  Recommended!

FLESH WORLD “S/T” 12” (LA VIDA ES UN MUS)
On their debut MLP, San Francisco, CA’s Flesh World plays ice-soaked punk rock led by dark and infectious guitar flourishes and a just-under-the-surface pop sensibility that makes each song an immediate stand out track. Featuring band members who are all veterans of the DIY punk scene — from bands including Limp Wrist, Brilliant Colors, Needles, and more — Flesh World brings influences from a host of punk sub-genres together, calling to mind the tense moodiness of classic British post punk, the sneer of the 1977 school, and just a hint of C86 flourish and feedback. Most importantly, this MLP includes six hopelessly catchy songs that will work their way into your skull like an infection without a cure.  The album comes in a full color sleeve designed by guitarist Jess Scott including a double sided poster with doubles as lyric sheet.

CRIMINAL CODE “NO DEVICE” LP (DERANGED)
THIS IS TACOMA, NOT OLY Criminal Code’s first proper long-player deals twelve tracks of technical precision matched with brickwall power. There’s a barbaric impulse festering in the twisted hearts of this Tacoma threesome, but No Device unfurls with dynamic tact and structural intricacy, sating its every aggressive urge with surgical attention to detail. With a stark palette of grizzly grays and off-white stains, Criminal Code details a singular spectrum of punk both bleak and savage. Naturally, the hardcore camp digs it because No Device extracts maximal strength from a few instruments in a minimal amount of time, but taut brooding snaps into serpentine guitar leads on enough songs for your death punk beholden to break off a piece. At any rate, Criminal Code tears down your descriptors and brings its own on No Device. A fiercely present, assertive album that dictates its own terms, listeners will find their go-to snappy little tags utterly inadequate and reductive. In the age of vaguely negative-wave nouveau and post-punk pastiche, Criminal Code is a colossal outfit casting its own long shadow.

MODERN CHARMS “S/T” LP (CLUE 2)
Modern Charms are a trio formed in San Francisco, California, with geographical tendrils spreading outward to the Pacific Northwest, and far-reaching aesthetic roots in dream pop and blissed-out fuzz rock. Their debut recording glides through six tracks of gorgeous guitar damage and crystalline female melodies, soaked in the grey marine layers of Ocean Beach in San Francisco where much of this record was composed, two streets back in a suburban model home. Modern Charms temper atmospherics with confidence and clarity to sweetly excoriate your eardrums.

JERRY’S KIDS “IS THIS MY WORLD?” LP (TAANG)
“I first heard this record while hanging out at some friends' apartment. We were sitting there talking when the crashing opening of "I Don't Belong" came on, a single chord drawn out which suddenly stops, the drums lead a charge into the barrelling cascade of "I Don't Belong," a frantic, barely-holding-on anthem. "I don't belong here - and I know it's true!" Rick Jones croaked maniacally over the soaring chords. I tried to act casual and pretend like I was listening to what people were saying, but all I could think was "what fucking band is this??" By the time "Cracks in the Walls" explodes into "Tear it Up," no one in the room could concentrate on anything but the music. I ran out the next day and bought this record and it is still one of the best I've ever heard.  Jerry's Kids combine the best things about punk and hardcore without being either too snotty or too tough. The thing that really puts Jerry's Kids above other bands for me is Brian Betzger's drumming, which is all over the place without missing a beat. They also manage to pull of one of the best and most unique slower songs of this period of hardcore. "Raise the Curtain" is dark and moody rather than plodding along like most early hardcore slow jams. This is an example of a more melodic approach to the genre that really works. Flip to side B and it's back to the blitzkreig with one of JK's more political songs ("Vietnam Syndrome") along with five more classics. It's no wonder people are always going nuts in pictures of Jerry's Kids shows. This is one of the best full lengths ever made by a hardcore band.” - killfromtheheart.com

DATA CONTROL “S/T” 7” (SIGNALER FRAN OVAN)
Raw yet melodic HC with members from Negative Lifestyle. Imagine a mix of early American HC mixed with Scandinavian HC Husker DU, Flipper, the Germs mixed with powerpop/punk like Suicide Commandos. 7” Vinyl 250 copies http://signalerfranovan.bandcamp.com/album/data-control

PUSRAD “MODERN ANATOMI” 7” (SIGNALER FRAN OVAN)
Members from former  Raped Teenagers . This is their best release so far , and it does not say a little. Superfast, tricky and arty, yet raw and honest HC Hard to describe the sound, but imagine the 1st Raped teenagers 7" mixed with early cardiacs. 300 copies http://signalerfranovan.bandcamp.com/album/pusrad-modern-anatomi

WARCHILD “BLEAK REALITY” 7” (SIGNALER FRAN OVAN)
This, my friends, is hardcore as it was made in England in 1981. Drop the needle on the wax and just like that you transport yourself to a dirty English industrial city with Thatcher and all the teenage depression you can possibly add to that. It sounds obviously like Discharge , yet the music sounds modern and fresh. 200 copies colored vinyl http://signalerfranovan.bandcamp.com/album/warchild-bleak-reality-ep

POOR LIFESTYLE “THESE TIMES” 7” (SIGNALER FRAN OVAN)
Blistering, melodic punk from northernmost Sweden that sounds like if it was a hidden punkrock band from Hermosa Beach. This is punkrock ala 1979. Cirkle Jerks, Black Flag, D.I etc. etc. 300 copies.

PRAG - DEMO TAPE
“Prag come from Perth, western Australia, they include people of Helta Skelta and  Nervous Trend, The demo was recorded in 2013 and comes on tape format. Musically takes main influences from 80's Italian hardcore (Raw Power, Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers, Declino etc), Spanish punk (Ultimo Resorte), Finnish hardcore (Kaaos), and L.A. punk such as The Germs. The tape consists of six songs and delivers a blending of the aforementioned bands in '00's sound: This is old school hardcore with modern sound, sometimes fast and raging and sometimes get the speed down to mid-paced pathways, vocals are angry and shouted and full of reverb and echoes, sound quality is decent. This is full of energy and power and avoids to be sloppy and boring. Without reinventing the wheel delivers some nice tunes by paying homage to their influences, as they say "The goal of the band was to do a modern take on classic Italian, Spanish and Finnish HC Punk". All and all this is a nice demo and old school hardoce fans will like it.This is going to come out in next month (December 2013) by Space Ritual ( a label run by a band member) and for next year there are plans for a 7 inch ep.” - http://crust-demos.blogspot.com

NERVOUS TREND - DEMO TAPE

Dark Post Punk from Perth, Australia. “Perth/Melbourne band Nervous Trend, featuring Chicago expat Jen Mace on vocals, released a five-song demo EP last October. It’s available for either a $5 cassette or name-your-price download. Sonically, the band do melodic, propulsive post-punk with a real urgency to Mace’s vocals that slots them in nicely alongside Deep Heat and Infinite Void.” - http://www.messandnoise.com

BACKTRACK “LOST IN LIFE” LP
(BRIDGE NINE)
Bridge Nine's newest label addition, NY's Backtrack, recently wrapped recording their new full-length with producer Nick Jett (Terror) in California. "Lost In Life" is their first release since 2011's "Darker Half" (Reaper Records) which was called "one of my favorite releases of that year and one of my favorite albums, period" by American Aftermath. In their second LP, Backtrack has created a fist pumping, ground stomping hardcore record that holds true to their New York Hardcore roots. Vinyl version includes digital download.

CIV “SET YOUR GOALS” LP (REVELATION)
A must have for any GORILLA BISCUITS fan, as this LP is considered by many as the unofficial follow up to GB’s classic “Start Today.”  Of course CIV is a completely different band, however the elements that made GB so renowned are clearly just as visible on this release; most likely due to CIV’s signature vocal style coupled with the alleged (and later self confirmed) rumors that Walter Schreifels was album’s ghostwriter.  The record features a bit more hook and melody on tracks like the first single “Can’t Wait One Minute More” and the title track “Set Your Goals,” (most comparable to the bouncy title track on the 1989 GB full length); although there are a good number of high speed scorchers on here like “Do Something,” “Trust,” and “State of Grace,” to keep things from getting too upbeat and happy; rounded out with some influence nods in the form of covers of KRAUT’S “All Twisted” and SSD’s “Glue.”  This combination of speed, melody, and ferocity further perfects the formula “Start Today” began mixing years earlier. If you can get past the arguably misleading and over the top visuals and imagery (although they do add to the individuality and charm of CIV, blame it on the 90’s), you’ll find a pretty unique and refreshing hardcore record.  Vinyl originally released by Revelation in 1996, "Set Your Goals" is the debut LP from CIV. Pressings were limited (with even less originally pressed on blue) and have been sold out for years, but now "Set Your Goals" is finally being repressed. This vinyl LP also features a cover of SSD's "Glue" as a bonus track, which was not available on the original CD version of this release.

DOWN TO NOTHING “LIFE ON THE JAMES” LP (REVELATION
"Life On The James," is the long awaited new full-length album from Down To Nothing, the band's first all-original release since their 2007 album "The Most.” Twelve hardcore rippers from Richmond, VA's best. Now available again on green vinyl. Vinyl version includes digital download of this record.

INTEGRITY “SYSTEMS OVERLOAD (A2/ORR MIX)” LP (ORGANIZED CRIME)
In 1995, Integrity recorded and released "Systems Overload." What is not widely known is that there was an original, rawer mix that was later scrapped and the record was remixed and released that way. In 2012, current guitarist Rob Orr obtained the original reels for "Systems Overload" and thought it would be entertaining to try and recreate the original mix on one of the songs. He sent the track to original guitarist and engineer of "Systems Overload," Aaron Melnick. After that, they collaborated together and remixed the whole record to sound like the original version. Included are lost elements of songs as well as the original version of "Unveiled Tomorrows." LP includes download card and is limited to 550 copies.

MENTAL “GET AN OXYGEN TANK” LP (BRIDGE NINE)
Bridge Nine marks the 10-year anniversary of Mental's Get an Oxygen Tank! EP with this version that expands the 7" to a 12" with a live set on WERS from 2004. The NY-influenced Boston hardcore band's B9 EP is best described as "aggressive and immature and fun" and "sounding kind of like if Judge had a super high-speed train-wreck with Supertouch. It put a little more fun into the otherwise sad and/or serious hardcore scene that existed at the time.”

IRON CHIC “THE CONSTANT ONE” LP (BRIDGE NINE)
Iron Chic is a melodic punk band from Huntington Station, NY. Formed back in 2008, the band released a five-song demo tape followed by the "Shitty Rambo" 7" the next year, and finally their debut full-length, "Not Like This," in 2010 - all on Long Island-based Dead Broke Rekerds. Immersed in the DIY scene, this release finds Iron Chic recording the album themselves, and coming out poised for a bigger release than they ever have before.  On The Constant One, the sophomore follow-up to Not Like This, Iron Chic continue to craft catchy, indie-inspired, emotive punk contrived to relieve, or at least alleviate, the pressure applied by our contemptuous minds. The musical framework is left largely unchanged from their past work, much to their conceit. Guitars play high-end distorted pop while drums focus on channeling energy from individual to group, typically achieved with a fair amount of sing-alongs and emotional build. Similar to their other output, The Constant One maintains a certain level of continuity by transitioning songs one after another through the use of guitar feedback, ostensibly unrelated audio samples, and, in one instance, 8-bit.

SUPERTOUCH “THE EARTH IS FLAT” LP (REVELATION)
The only full-length release by this New York group. Heavy, brooding music with a lot of emotion. Exposing the myth of the "round" earth. New pressing now available on white vinyl with a gatefold cover and newly re-mastered audio. LP includes digital download of this record.

PROCESS - DEMO TAPE
"Gainesville, FL's Process bring us seven unpolished tracks of rage recorded in October of 2013. Direct in their message. Simple in their structure. No tricky song writing. No big budget production. This is not here to fool you. This is raw hardcore punk. Cassette comes housed in a hand glued, screen printed O - card w/ lyric sheet."

V/A “RICHMOND BURNING VOL. 1” COMPILATION TAPE

CABIN FEVER ZINE - ISSUE #5
Latest missive from this Richmond-via-Baltimore fanzine that's become as much of a visual treat as it is to read. William makes a point of prominently featuring his own illustration and collage in issue #5 alongside interviews with Austin's BLOTTER and Chicago's OOZING WOUND. Also included are record/zine/movie reviews and a few contributions from friends. On top of that a two-color original print from William is included with every copy. Cabin Fever declares itself as "the voice of the new flesh" with issue 5 and I can't wait to see where this voice takes us next.

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #369 - FEB 2014
We check in with Polish legends DEZERTER, while Japan’s STRANGE FACTORY lets us know what it’s like living in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, and STOIC VIOLENCE fills us in on the problems with bands compromising ethics for fame. ARCTIC FLOWERS discuss the current post-punk trend in DIY, David West of RANK/XEROX and RAT COLUMNS talks inspiration, and  VOIGH-KAMPFF tell us what it’s like to be in a cross-country band. A bunch of new LP MARKDOWNS in the GM Webstore!

I just marked down about 40 more LPs and put them in the "Sale Records" section of the webstore! Most of the LPs I dropped to the $5.00-$6.00 range and these are all new stock distro stuff, no used records. Some cool stuff too, most of it I either have one copy of or the titles have been here for a little while so I'm clearing some room for the webstore change over which is going down in February.

Check it out if you are looking to pick up some cheap new records. I have almost 400 marked down 7"s and LPs in the Sale section, plus a bunch of the CDs in the CD section are still on sale for only a few bucks.

Here's the list of what just got marked down, I put full descriptions below if you were curious! If you see something that sparks your interested and want to find it quickly in the webstore, just copy and paste the full release info below into the "Search section" and it should pop up!

ARMEDALITE RIFLES  "SHAMBOLIC INDEED" 2xLP
Armedalite Rifles have been playing in the Hudson Valley region of NY for years now. Their always evolving sound is very hard to pin down but you can for sure hear influences ranging from early UK punk (The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers) and '70s dub as well as some worldbeat mixed in. After a handful of self-released records and a split 7-inch with Giant Haystacks on FDH, they had a brief period recreating themselves. They have replaced their guitarist (who also did 1/2 the vocals on their first few releases) and James has taken on all of the vocal duties. This new revamped version of the band has taken things to new level that is finally showing the true songwriting genius of the band. This third full length from the Armedalite Rifles feels like it's really their first album when compared to their other efforts. Features a guest appearance from Glenn Mercer (Feelies) playing e-bow on a track.

AT HALF MAST  "FATHERS AND SONS" LP
The sophomore full length release for the South Carolina's own AT HALF-MAST. The new full length LP is a further improvement of their powerful sound and original songwriting. Comparisons aren't that easy to make, because they have developed a sound of their own, but if you imagine modern hardcore influenced by Shai Hulud and Comeback Kid you won't be very wrong about what AT HALF-MAST sound like.

BIRDS AND WIRES  "S/T" LP
Debut 4 song 12″Ep from Birds & Wires. This Washington, DC-based four-piece outfit consists of former and current members of 1905, Aghast, Midvale, Redencion 9-11, Red Line Index and Lotus Fucker. Recorded by Hugh McElroy (Black Eyes, Horses, Equinox, Ruffian Records) at Inner Ear and Swim Two Birds. 4 songs at 45 RPM.

BLACK DOVE  "NO FUTURE/NO FATE" LP
AVAILABLE! 45 RPM 12". 9 bloody tracks of heavy, ferocious hardcore punk from Ohio in under 22 minutes. The music is unrelenting, ugly and driving without being formulaic. The lyrics are bleak, but are not without hope and the will to search for what is beyond the grave. Recorded on 2" analog tape. Silver foil artwork.

BOMBS AWAY  "10 SONG EP" LP
A repressing of their "DISTORTED THRASH PROTESTATION" 12" from 2001. Aggressive Portland hardcore punk similar to TALK IS POISON or DEATHREAT. Comes in a hand screened cover complete with new layout.

BORN LIARS  "RAGGED ISLAND" LP
Cutthroat Records brings us some more Rock n Roll, Texas style! Born Liars are straight up, catchy garage rock style punk in the same vein as Eddie and The Hot Rods or the Heartbreakers.

BOXED IN  "S/T" LP
After singles on Crime Scene and Busted Head Records comes the full length from this bunch of longstanding UK punks. Thirteen songs in just 18 minutes. No ballads here, just full speed ahead thrashing-punk. The record speaks for itself but if you want to download songs you can get MP3 from Flat Earth records. The band features people from a whole host of old UK bands including; SAWN OFF, HEALTH HAZARD, EBOLA, GENERIC, DOOM, MINUTE MANIFESTO etc. Needless to say this lot know how to pummel you into the ground!

BRAT PACK  "STUPIDITY RETURNS" LP
Brat Pack hail from Holland, but their sound is more reminiscent of the sunny streets, beaches, skate parks and pools of early eighties California. Since 2006 they've recorded a demo, which was later re-released as a 7'' vinyl, and a full-length entitled "Hate The Neighbours". In support of "Hate The Neighbours", Brat Pack played all over Europe, including two Western European tours, a tour of the Balkans, a UK tour and, of course, a bunch of other shows. Now, three years after the release of “Hate The Neighbours”, Brat Pack have crafted a whole lotta new songs and they'll unleash 'em via “Stupidity Returns”, their second full-length LP. Influences vary from the aggressive sounds of RKL, SNFU, 7 Seconds and even some later era Poison Idea to a more melodic and gloomy approach of the Adolescents, D.I. and Agent Orange, played skilfully, but still really raw and pissed. Also, one song features the wicked Solomon of Night Fever fame on vocals. All in all, an energetic and melodic hardcore punk assault.

BROKEDOWNS, THE  "NEW BRAINS FOR EVERYONE" LP
The long overdue vinyl release of one of my favorite records. The Brokedowns take all of the best elements of punk and hardcore to create some of the smartest, most creative, catchy, energetic anthems you could ever hope to hear. I'm not generally excited about the idea of "reissues," but this record is one giant exception. Recommended for fans of Dillinger Four, Off With Their Heads, and Witches With Dicks.

BROTHERS  "BLACK FRIDAY" LP
Eleven tracks of amazingly powerful old school hardcore with a new school flare. Positive lyrics compliment traditional breakdowns with intense, melodic, and catchy riffs. This is their incredibly accomplished debut release and is strongly recommended for fans of modern hardcore like MLIW or DEAD HEARTS. Hailing from Michigan and featuring ex-members of Comeback Kid, BROTHERS come at you with nothing less than the perfect mix of brutality, energy, and melody. Passionate, moving and full of energy, 'Black Friday' demands your attention and leaves you breathless. Yes, it's that good.

BURNING ITCH  "S/T" LP
Three dudes from Knoxville, TN where the GG Allin runs like the shits and the water is tainted with moonshine piss. Burning Itch are pure, unadulterated punk rock inspired as much by getting fucked up as they are by obscure, KBD-private-press vinyl. S/T is their first LP and does not disappoint...so long as you WANTED a payoff on the promise of their "machine-gun-toting" self-released 7", and the subsequent ragers on both Goodbye Boozy and Leather Bar. Yessir, the boys n girls with a hankering to get drunk to some loud, completely unpretentious punk rock ought to get their rocks off on this bad boy just fine. Recommended pairing: goes great with shooting fireworks off the Smokey Mountains at college students.

EARTHMEN AND STRANGERS  "S/T" LP
"Earthmen and Strangers - self titled LP - I love when bands bridge the gap between punk and indie without losing or getting lost in any of the above genre's charm. These Arizona boys come off as a lost treasure on flying nun records whilst taking in some of its neighbor's (RADIO BIRDMAN and the SCIENTISTS) hook-driven pull. I'd almost put my imaginary house on it these boys rock the CLEAN and the VERLAINES every second day whilst blasting the WIPERS in between. Not a single duffer; every track becoming an instant new fad, sounding old in the warmest sort of way, a beautiful tonic to the worst Monday bluesI've ever had. Now I'm off to spread the word: We have found this year's best record." -MRR Ryan Rousseau saw that Tokyo Electron was about to become a much less active band and started a new project. He recorded a handful of demo tracks and started to put together a new band. Well here is the result. 10 tracks recorded with his new band recorded and mixed at Cardiac Studio. This first offical output from the band will be limited to 500 copies (as a first press at least)

EMPTY GRAVE - "ABANDONDED" 12" READ FIRST
Tighter, faster and harder, Richmond's Empty Grave returns with thirteen blistering tracks of hardcore punk. Mix Christ On Parade, The Germs, and other early HC bands, then you can get an idea of how this hits your ears. Filled with unique hooks and cynical lyrics, this album captures the darker side of existance in an uncommon way.

FLECHETTE  "S/T" LP
The debut album by Richmond, Virginia's golden boys, Flechette. Imagine Drive Like Jehu and Fugazi having a few drinks and making a few irresponsible decisions, and wa-la! This 7 track LP was recorded by Tim Gault at Double 00 studio, and was pressed at 45 RPM for maximum quality.

JACK PALANCE BAND  "GET THIS SHIT UNDERWAY" LP
In 2000, Chattanooga’s The Jack Palance Band—consisting of members that would later go on to the Hidden Spots (Eric Nelson and Buddha) and Future Virgins (Mike Pack)—released Get This Shit Under Way (on CD only). Jack Palance were and are some of the South’s favorite DIY sons and this, their only full-length, is an album that’s bereft of irony, posturing, or ego. It’s just pure, honest, and heart-felt music that took the East Bay sound, twisted it around MDC and collard greens like barbed wire, and delineated some musically rich ground unmistakably their own. Both furious and tender, rough but welcoming, angry but understanding, realistic but hopeful, its power remains undiminished ten years later. And if that’s not an underdog testament to top-drawer, gut-level music, I don’t know what is. Jack Palance broke up soon after this record came out, and with a new drummer (Iggy Scam), became The Horrible Odds.

KAFKA PROSESS  "INGEN FATTIGE, INGEN RIKE" LP
Finally this project is finished. for all of you who aren't familiar with this norwegian band: they existed from '84 to '87, were the following band of "Svart Framtid", featuring Gunnar on vocals who later after Kafka Prosess' decline, formed with other friends "So Much Hate" & were in my opinion one of the best HC bands that ever came from Norway or even Europe!! On here you find all the stuff that Kafka Prosess have recorded in their 3 years of existence incl. an previous unreleased 7" session.

KAPYKAARI  "S/T" LP
Rough-edged attitude with full speed. Slanted, rough-edged, angry Finnish punk rock with anarchistic lyrics. This is what Käpykaarti brings to the table. These guys have been doing this for many years, and it shows. Bling-bling rock stars, the Winter War fans and other bases of the society get their share of the old-timers’ derision. Käpykaarti shout the facts and they do it loud! (Sarasteen Pienmuovi / Bad Hair Life 2011, LN-007)

KILLER DREAMER  "1,000 YEARS OF SERVITUDE" LP

LOST BOYS / IRRADIATES - SPLIT LP
"Rockin' old-school hardcore meets sci-fi surf rock. The LOST BOYS like their hardcore old-school, early 80s to be precise. Remember JFA? BLACK FLAG or D.O.A? They sure do! The spirit of AGENT ORANGE also flies over their music since they are not afraid to incorporate surf elements to make the whole thing more exciting. This is very refreshing in these days when most hardcore bands chose the easy brutal metal option. The IRRADIATES continue their crusade through the universe spreading their rock'n'roll message and crazy scientist music. This is surf music, but not in a traditional way, this is closer to a band like MAN OR ASTROMAN? They chose to offer us a cover song on this 4 song 12", "When The Birdmen Fly" from Australian punk rock band the FUN THINGS, and let me tell you that this was a good move from the French surf punks! They totally made it fit to their music and style. The IRRADIATES are just back from Chicago where they recorded with Steve Albini so you will definitely hear about them again soon. This LP is a tribute to the old-school hardcore punk spirit dipped into a big surf wave. The music, the black and white art-work and stickers are all the illustration of these guys' passion. Surf it up!"/ Laurent Veglam

MOUTHBREATHER  "LILA" 10"
New release by our friends from Richmond (ex wow owls, the set up). 5 new songs of raw pissed of hardcore that reminds me on Burn (maybe the kids on soul control). - but more dirty, more raw, more pissed, more punk. 500 copies on black vinyl (former releases on KISS OF DEATH & RORSCHACH)

ORDINATION OF AARON  "DISCOGRAPHY" 2xLP
Finally after all the waiting - the ORDINATION OF AARON discography is done. It's a double LP (A/B side comes on white The DLP includes the LP, the 7" and the split 7" w/ INDIAN SUMMER - but NOT the acoustic 7". All records come w/ nice booklets and an extra patch. one of the leading bands ( together with indian summer , current , policy of three ) of the mid90's emo sound. 15 YEAR ANNIVERSARY DISCOGRAPHY BY EARLY 90’S EMO BAND OOA. DELUXE GATEFOLD EDITION LIMITED TO 1000. COLOR VINYL, LASER ETCHING, RUBBER STAMPED BOOKLET WITH UNRELEASED PHOTOS AND SCREEN PRINTED PATCH. FOR FANS OF INDIAN SUMMER, CURRENT, CAP’N JAZZ, MOSS ICON AND EARLY DC PUNK (EMBRACE, IGNITION, RITES OF SPRING).

PEACE OR ANNIHILATION  "FEAR CONTROL" LP
DISCHARGE / DISCLOSE worship band from Jakarta. Getting better and better. If you enjoyed the songs on the No Tomorrow comp, this is close. 12 songs, all killer. Pure raw distorted Punk Hardcore.

PEDESTRIANS  "IDEAL DIVIDE" LP
One of the few truley original punk bands these days, Pedestrians prove their songwriting abilities on this new eight song 12". Comparisons come and go from old Dangerhouse bands, Adolescents, old KBD-type shit, etc because their sound is hard to describe and somehow has managed to appeal to hardcore punks, garage rockers, etc. Fantastic lyrics and musicianship from real DIY punks playing their hearts out, not some major label fencewalkers which seem to somehow be accepted in the complacent punk scene today. That honesty comes through in the songs in which the power is undeniable.

PESD  "POLITIKAREPOIZONEKURVAE" LP
Powerfully colliding stripped-down hardcore with an updated version of the offbeat cold wave/new wave fusion of classic 80s Polish punk, PESD (Post Extreme Stress Disorder) pull no punches in harsh vocal attack, pounding rhythms and searing hook-laden hardcore riffs. The fast tracks tear with inventiveness and all-out furor of the best of international hardcore records, then keyboards and early industrial sound effects come out in the mid tempo songs to cast the record in a dark, near-gothic light, still retaining the aggressive urgency and mood. An inventive and powerful collaboration project between the guitarist of Poland's Legendary Post Regiment and the singer of the equally legendary Tragedia, "Politikarepoizonekurvae" was originally released in 2005 on CD on Poland's Trujaca Fala label. This was so glued to the Prank Record's office stereo and is one of our absolute favorite records of the last few years, Prank decided to press it stateside. The U.S. version has been re-mastered at Fantasy by George Horn and comes in deluxe packaging. Think Die Kreuzen at its darkest moments and perhaps BGK at faster moments.

PORKERIA  "LA MIERDA DE SIEMPRE" LP
Mexican/Latino raw punk from deep south Texas!!! Featuring ex-BASTARD SONS of APOCALYPSE. Ten tracks of hardcore punk/ punk rock that at times is fast and blistering and is also melodic and catchy. Their style is very similar to the early second-wave of UK '82 and international punk like G.B.H., Appendix, and R.I.P.

PROTESTANT  "JUDGEMENTS" LP
Protestant continue to be Milwaukee, WI's foremost purveyors of dirty, heavy, and raw hardcore with another full-length's worth of Catharsis and His Hero Is Gone-inspired hardcore.

PROTESTANT  "RECLAMATION" LP
"Here's the latest release from Milwaulkee, WI's Protestant. Protestant have been consistently churning out their brand of blackened, metallic, and crust influenced hardcore since 2004. The band has been a powerhouse of sorts and have released an impressive output of music in their eight year's existence. The band has continually impressed me with the quality of music they've put out so far, and their latest 12" is no exception. Reclamation is set to drop at the end of the month, September 21st, to be exact. Reclamation is a five song 12" that runs a little under twenty minutes. For the band, Reclamation is an evolution of sorts and shows Protestant veering slightly away from their crust leanings found on the band's earlier releases. Protestant have embraced more of a metallic sound this time around, but have done so in a way that does not take away from the aggressiveness of the band's sound. Musically, these five new songs are still dark, venomous, and brutal as fuck. All I know is this band does not fail to impress me and I always look forward to new material from the band. Highly recommended! Enjoy!" - elementaryrevolt.blogspot.com

REDDMEN / EYES AND EARS - SPLIT LP
Eyes & Ears grew from the mulch of the punk-soul orchestra Call Sign Cobra with a single purpose: to hurt you. The aptly named quartet fricassees the senses with a rock-fraught thunderbolt of sound and vision (or some sick corruption thereof). Inducing hallucinations of Hot Snakes in a back-alley knife fight with Nation Of Ulysses, Eyes & Ears gouges, pokes, and screams like a gang of adrenaline-injected sissies.

SAFETY PINS  "INVITES US TO YOUR FUNERAL" LP
Following their two ear-splitting albums on Munster, Spain's snot-swinging shit-splayers THE SAFETY PINS drop out a new one. Thirteen bare-knuckled tracks of degenerately anthemic punk rock hate played with fury and abandon. Aggressive, raw, and nasty.

SEASICK  "AWAKENINGS" 10"
Seasick is a product of New Jersey's rich hardcore punk history. While half the band hails from New Brunswick and takes cues from former bands like Endeavor, Fanshen, and the Degenerics, the other half of Seasick grew up at the Jersey shore surrounded by bands like Full Speed Ahead, Dead Nation, and Tear It Up. Seasick's second EP, "Awakenings," is 7 songs of politically inspired frustration and anger.

SLEEPWALL  "S/T" LP
Third release following two EPs on TOXIC POP. "The third release from NY’s Sleepwall. Recalling an era of music defined by feeling and passion. Some may call it 90s rehash, some may call it post-hardcore. We just think it’s amazing and are proud to be able to release these 4 songs."

STEINWAYS, THE  "PROMISE IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN" LP
I am not exactly sure what The Steinways are promising will never happen again, but if it has anything to do with making, playing, recording or releasing music, I hope they are proven to be liars someday! Listening to all of these songs collected from singles, splits, compilations and Grath's iPod made me remember why I loved them so much when they were still around - they made some of the most fun and fantastic pop punk music of the past decade! Promise It'll Never Happen Again collects remastered versions of every song ever released by The Steinways that didn't appear on either of their two full length albums. Two tracks are being released for the first time, another was only available on a not-exactly-available-for-sale wedding gift 7" that only 150 copies of exist, and the first eleven are being made available in digital format (iTunes and the like, as well as download codes included with all copies of the LP) for the first time... officially anyway. If you missed the boat on The Steinways the first time around, this is the perfect place to start. For existing fans, it's a great way to remember how good you had it when they were still around.

STEREOPHONIC SPACE SOUND  "JET SOUND" LP
Stereophonic Space Sound Unlimited, a Swiss duo consisting of Ernest Maeschi and Karen Diblitz, create enticing instrumentals with an ultra-modern twist that draw from a variety of genres, including spy movie theme music, surf, lounge, and exotica. Their material has been used in a myriad of film and television projects, most recently The Chris Issak Show, and will appeal immensely to everyone from hipsters in their space age bachelor pads to trance DJs in the coolest clubs. “Jet Sound Inc.” is the group’s fourth album (the previous three are also on Dionysus) and quite possibly their best yet-don’t miss!

STEREOPHONIC SPACE SOUND  "THE SPACESOUND EFFECT" LP
Switzerland's modern composers, Ernest Maeschi & Karen Dibilz have made their mark on the instrumental/exotica/space age scene using guitars, organs, vibraphones, bongos, weird outer space sounds, drum lops and tape effects. The duo's music easily holds up to the best US composers of movie and soundtrack music from the 1960s. Artwork by Shag.

STEREOPHONIC SPACE SOUND  "THE SPOOKY SOUND SESSIONS" LP
Stereophonic Space Sound Unlimited have returned with their sixth Dionysus album, "Spooky Sound Sessions," a collection of 14 brand new songs recorded entirely at the legendary Spooky Sound Record Store in Zurich, Switzerland. The elusive duo consisting of Ernest Maeschi and Karen Simpson have once more worked their magic and created a series of instrumentals which will take you onto a journey into The Great Unknown. Guitars, organs, sitars, Indian banjos, Moogs, bongos, and sounds of obscure electronic equipment exclusively available to the Spooky Sound Lab have been woven into the unique Sound experience that is Stereophonic Space Sound Unlimited.

STEREOPHONIC SPACE SOUND UNLIMITED  "JO SIFFERT" LP
STEREOPHONIC SPACE SOUND UNLIMITED's fifth release on Dionysus is a movie soundtrack about the life of international racecar driver Jo Siffert. The film follows the different stages in Jo Siffert's career and accompanies him from his humble beginnings to his great successes on the international racing circuits - literally, from rags to riches. This soundtrack may be the best of SSSU's five amazing releases…up there with the best of any European movie soundtrack from the late '60s or early to mid '70s.

TIMEBOMBS, THE  "MUMBLING" 10"
Originally intended to be a 7", this three-song 10" sees Southern California's The Timebombs begin to break away from early '80s inspired hardcore punk and infuse more noise and mid-tempo beats, becoming reminiscent of bands like Cult Ritual.

TOTALICKERS  "EL PODER ABSOLUTO ANIQUILA LA VIDA" LP
2nd album by this Barcelona band, still in a crushing Swedish vein. That's D-beat fury all the way and when you like it rotten and decimated, you might not miss this one. Did I mention the band has a political agenda ? In this No More Faith empire, this is refreshing. Members of Infäme and Holocaust In Your Head.

TRMRS  "SEA THINGS" LP
Pronounced "Tremors." Sea Things is the debut album from these Southern California garage punk rockers. It's obvious that a lot of time and care was put into this record. The cover is a collage of awesome trippy artwork made by singer Tommy Stewart. Sea Things contains 12 tracks of raw, catchy 60's/70's fuzzy surf/pop punk with tons of energy and cool hooks throughout. TRMRS always keep you on your feet, and each song is a bit different. They play music similar to other so cal bands like Audacity, Moonhearts, Cumstain, Cosmonauts, Le Face, etc. Limited to only 600 copies. A must have!

WARVICTIMS / TILL DEATH - SPLIT 10"
Warvictims exemplify the embodiment of racus raw D-beat. These raging Swedes lay down six solid tracks ala the incarnations that the genre has produced. For anyone familiar with the genre, you can see that it has the brutal angst that has kept us listening for the last 15 years. War, Famine, and Death! The Till Death side is similar in vain. Great production and clever arrangements contribute to setting themselves apart from the rest of the wolf pack. Vocals are growling with tortured grunts and torrent agonizing screams. Guitar, bass and drums are all loud and clear in the mix. Expertly executed Musical misanthropy demonstrated by four unrelenting D-beat efforts that can't be beat.

WOMEN  "NO REASONS" LP
Philadelphia's Women return with their first LP. This follows up their debut 7" that they released back in 2008. No Reasons blasts through 11 tracks, in only 20 minutes. Just as aggressive as Women's first release, yet more melodic at the same time. A perfect blend of garage punk and 80's hardcore. A must have for anyone's collection. Co-released between FDH and Resurrection Records. Includes digital download code. Limited to only 500 copies, get it while it lasts!

YOUNG LIVERS  "THE NEW DROP ERA" LP
Gainesville punk rockers Young Livers feature members of local heroes FIYA and Glass & Ashes and conjure up eight tracks of high energy rock and roll with gruff vocals and dual lead guitars that may bring to mind Thin Lizzy at times, with the rest of their music taking the melodic passion of Hot Water Music and blending it with the all out aggression of Drive Like Jehu.

ZEGOTA  "RECLAIM" LP
This is Zegota’s third full length. This North Carolina/Sweden based band play a style of punk and hardcore that is entirely their own. Ever since their long out-of-print demo, Zegota have been breaking genres and enjoying music to the fullest. They have no fear of improvisation and bending the boundaries of most understand as “punk” while incorporating non-traditional instrumentation where they see fit. This LP contains the same 8 tracks as the “Reclaim!” CD released by CrimethInc, but you know that vinyl is better!
